Protest graffiti as visual activism provides a democratic space for demonstrators to articulate their narratives. Nevertheless, the lack of leadership in the Chilean social outburst in 2019 becomes a challenge in outlining its impact. Thus, this article provides an empirical case of political graffiti and explains how graffiti had a constitutive role in the social movement and the immediate country’s political course after that. This paper proposes a transdisciplinary approach by combining the analysis of graffiti as contextual texts (Pennycook, 2007) with ‘collective action frames’ in studying political graffiti collected in a six-kilometre walk in Santiago, Chile. As a result, graffiti frameworks of injustice denounce the state and police violence; frameworks of agency tend to organise protesters’ ideas for change, such as a new constitution and the end of the current pension systems; and a strong sense of feminism conforms part of identity frames.

This article explores the conceptualisation of intangible heritage through the placement of traditional practices, by providing a method for cultural heritage inventories on Indigenous territories. Landscapes of movements is the theory that allows the analysis of Indigenous cultures and territories in terms of context, inhabitants, heritage, policies, traditions, symbolism, landmarks and roads. The case study is Caspana, a Likan Antai community in the north of Chile, incorporated in the Inca roads. Through interviews over a tenure map built in co-labour with the community in study, it was possible to articulate a space signification in relation to people’s movement as a “ritual territory” and an “ancient territory”, one for the present and for past movement, respectively. This tenure map method becomes a tool for the Indigenous communities, who can now use it as argument for claiming their rights over land.

This paper demonstrates the operation of a two-phase interleaved boost DC-DC converter with coupled inductor in Continuous Current Mode (CCM). The design is implemented in such a way that it suits the application where high power density is preferred. The coupling inductors are subjected to a pre-determined switching frequency rate, at which the triggering devices, such as Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor [IGBT] are used to provide the duty cycle, that drives the load. Also, the various modes of operations are described with initial boundary conditions, and parametric variations of the triggering device using MATLAB/Simulink software package.

This paper presents the stability analysis of Floating Interleaved Boost Converter (FIBC) with zero ripple input current. The poles and zeros operating in continuous conduction mode are obtained. Kirchhoff's voltage and current law concepts are used to obtain voltage and current equations. Laplace transform is applied to deduce the transfer function of the converter. Root locus, Bode plot and Nyquist plots are obtained from MATLAB R2019B and stability is analyzed. Voltage controller is designed to control the output voltage for slight variation in input voltage.

In this paper a configuration to increase the voltage level of five level boost converter using a seven-level diode clamped inverter is proposed. The output current and voltage are less distorted because of the presence of capacitor voltage inverter, but there will be high switching losses due to high switching frequency. Usually, a multilevel inverter is more acceptable for high power applications. Here, an analysis is done based on the performance of Diode-Clamped Multilevel Inverter with Sinusoidal PWM technique. The switches of the inverter are controlled using this technique. The reduction in harmonics can be validated with %THD value which is obtained from the simulation results of MATLAB/SIMULINK.

This paper describes the Culture and Communities Mapping Project, a study that uses cultural mapping to understand the relationships between the Edinburgh’s cultural spaces and local communities. The paper begins by detailing different methodological paths that those carrying out cultural mapping projects will navigate: formatting the project to collect quantitative or qualitative data, which is usually correlated with tangible or intangible data, as well as approaching the map as a means to policy outcomes or as part of a process of community building through collective memory, or both. The paper then offers an in-depth case study of the Edinburgh-based map, a tool that artists, art institutions, and policy makers can use to better understand Edinburgh’s cultural geography and guide further research on arts equity and access. The findings section concludes with thoughts on what the project reflects about the cultural mapping enterprise more broadly.

This paper provides an idea of modeling a Photovoltaic (PV) system, which is to be used as a primary energy source for an electric vehicle. A basic PV array fails to provide the power ratings needed to run a vehicle. Such high power applications require a step-up DC converter to not only boost its output voltage but also deal with the high current and voltage ratings, which the interleaved boost converter satisfies. The proposed model increases the efficiency of PV arrays. The model is simulated using MATLAB-Simulink.

The paper deals with an analysis of Floating Interleaved Boost Converter (FIBC) and Improved FIBC in order to obtain the more desirable converter for photovoltaic power system applications. A bilevel measurement analysis is accomplished for FIBC and Improved FIBC in order to arrive at more prominent and power efficient converter for photovoltaic systems. This paper also deals with analysis of vigorous voltage control of FIBC and improved FIBC. The analysis for measuring the vigorous voltage control of the converter is established by changing the inductor and capacitor values of both the converters.

Photovoltaic solar panels generate direct electricity from solar energy which involves physical and chemical changes. The current–voltage rating and the performance of the photovoltaic(PV) array modules considerably change with respect to lighting, temperature and the change of load conditions, time of day, amount of solar insolation, direction, orientation of modules, shading, and geographic location. These modules at one specific voltage, current, or wattage operate efficiently. This variation in output power will lead to loss of power efficiency and poor performance of the system. This paper implements a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique using buck–boost converters for PV arrays to increase the output power efficiency in real time. An incremental conductance algorithm is employed to implement the MPPT technique which makes the system more accurate and simpler to implement. Integral controllers are also used to make the maximum power tracking less error-prone. Simulations of this system are done using MATLAB and SIMULINK.

The paper deals with analyzing the method to design a LCL filter connected to grid-tied power converters. This paper aims at analyzing the right values of the different parameters of an LCL filter by changing the switching frequency and inductor ratio of the LCL filter. LCL filters are advantageous over the traditional L filters in the fact that they provide better harmonic attenuation and efficiency at a smaller size. By varying the total inductance of LCL filter, analysis is made so as to obtain the appropriate inductance values which has the minimum harmonic distortion and which gives the highest efficiency by simultaneously meeting the standard requirements of the filter. The analysis also takes into consideration the Total Harmonic Distortion of supply current, resonance frequency and damping of the filter.

Multilevel power conversion has become a source of research, for high voltage gain, low switching losses and ability to reduce harmonic distortions. In the present paper a 7-Level Inverter is implemented using Cascaded H-Bridge Topology, thus generating desired AC signal. The paper also provides a descriptive and comparative analysis of the proposed model with the previous models using the Simulink MATLAB, thus providing a better understanding of the topology.

Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET devices exhibiting several advantages, including high blocking voltage, lower conduction losses, and lower switching losses, when compared to silicon-based devices have become commercially available, enabling their adoption into power supply products. This paper presents a novel approach to designing a cycloconverter using SiC MOSFETs as opposed to the conventional usage of IGBT. A comparative study is attempted between the two with respect to distortion and system efficiency. MATLAB/Simulink models and simulations are used to analyze the results for the above.

Tagetes minuta L. is a plant which accumulates Pb under certain conditions, making it a candidate for phytoextraction projects because it also produces marketable essential oils without detectable Pb levels. Although extraction efficiency has been shown to significantly vary between individuals, these results have been obtained using only historically exposed populations, which leads to the questions: Is the ability to tolerate and accumulate Pb a property of the species? Or is it a characteristic of some individuals from a historically exposed population? In this context, a greenhouse experiment was performed to analyse the intrapopulation and interpopulation variability in response to Pb among individuals from historically unexposed and exposed populations. In addition, we also attempted to identify relationships between certain capabilities (toleration and accumulation of Pb) and the physiological parameters related to oxidative stress or the volatile compounds of the essential oils. The Pb concentration was determined by total reflection X-ray fluorescence, physiological parameters were obtained by spectrophotometry, and essential oils were analysed by gas chromatography. The results demonstrated that adequate tolerance and accumulation capabilities are present in T. minuta, irrespective of the exposure history. These findings may be associated to a hormesis response, which includes enhancement of pigments, biomass production and the uptake of other heavy metals such as micronutrients. Nevertheless, the historically exposed population had a better tolerance to Pb, since it presented defence characteristics reflected in the essential oil composition and in the avoidance of damage at the lipid peroxidation level after Pb uptake. Phytoremediation, especially phytoextraction, is a good alternative for remediation of soils contaminated with heavy metals. This method requires selection of species for their tolerance, high accumulation levels in harvestable parts, and high biomass production. Bidens pilosa L. has been reported as tolerant to and potentially hyperaccumulator of several heavy metals, including Pb, but with variable results in terms of effectiveness. The aim of this study was to analyse the intra- and interpopulation variability of B. pilosa in response to Pb in individuals from two populations: one historically exposed to Pb and another with no history of exposure. Bidens pilosa L. presented tolerance to Pb pollution in soil, evidenced in a higher survival rate, a better antioxidant response, and an efficient reduction in cell membrane damage mainly due to history of exposure. The period of exposure (30 years) was not long enough to obtain a B. pilosa population that provides seeds for phytoextraction projects, since the average value of total extraction was relatively low. Collecting seeds from a historically exposed population will provide some suitable individuals with Pb accumulation and translocation capabilities, but not a sufficient amount to conduct a large phytoremediation project. The individual accumulator profile of B. pilosa is not related to the physiological behaviour or to the Pb entry into the vascular bundle in root, but to the incorporation of other heavy metals that are micronutrients.

Introducción: Habitualmente se estima la concordancia entre IMC e imagen corporal pero se desconoce la concordancia utilizando otra metodología. El objetivo del presente estudio fue comparar la autopercepción de la imagen corporal utilizando el IMC y porcentaje de grasa corporal en estudiantes de la Universidad Autónoma de Chile. Material y Métodos: Estudio descriptivo, a 1.105 estudiantes de ambos sexos se les aplicó el test de la Conducta Alimentaria EDI-2, antropometría (IMC y pliegues cutáneos) y una evaluación de la percepción de imagen corporal a través de modelos anatómicos. Resultados: En hombres hubo una mejor concordancia entre grasa corporal y autopercepción (κ=0,21), que entre IMC y autopercepción (κ=0,07), en mujeres los resultados fueron similares en ambas evaluaciones (κ=0,1). Al ver la concordancia entre las 2 metodologías, en ambos sexos la concordancia entre IMC y porcentaje de grasa fue similar (κ=0,1). Conclusiones: Los estudiantes en general presentan una inadecuada autopercepción de la imagen corporal. Finalmente, hay muy baja concordancia diagnóstica entre ambas evaluaciones.

Cloud computing is an emerging technology where computing resources such as software and hardware are accessed over the internet as a service to customers. In the past, due to less demand, cloud capacity management was not critical. However, with the increase in demand, capacity management has become critical. Cloud customers can frequently use web-based portals to provision and de-provision virtual machines on demand. Due to dynamic changes as per the demand, managing capacity becomes a challenging task. In this paper, we discuss the emergence of cloud computing, traditional versus cloud computing, and how capacity management can be efficiently handled in a cloud. A detail on high availability of virtual machines in a cloud using the N+1 model is discussed in this paper. With templates, many repetitive installation and configuration tasks can be avoided. We discuss the sizing of templates and the overheads of using virtual machines. We suggest ideal combinations of sizing templates to create virtual machines with optimum utilization of blades. Finally we discuss a few benefits of efficient capacity management in cloud computing.

Introducción: Los pacientes con diabetes mellitus (DM) son reconocidos como grupo de riesgo para desarrollar tuberculosis. Sin embargo, existe un importante sub-registro de la diabetes como factor de riesgo entre los casos de tuberculosis, que no permite cuantificar la magnitud de este grupo. Este estudio busca determinar laprevalencia de DM entre los casos de tuberculosis (TB) diagnosticados el año 2012 en la Región Metropolitana y estimar la asociación entre estas dos patologías. Método: Se efectuó un estudio transversal analítico, en que todos los casos de TB mayores de 15 años de la Región Metropolitana del año 2012 consignados en el Registro Nacional de Tuberculosis, fueron buscados en el Sistema de Información para la Gestión de Garantías en Salud (SIGGES) para determinar si tenían o no DM. Se realizó el análisis de prevalencias por edad, sexo y Servicio de Salud y se determinó el nivel de asociación con la razón de prevalencia y la estimación de la tasa de incidencia de tuberculosis entre diabéticos y no diabéticos. Resultados: Del total de casos de TB de la región Metropolitana se excluyeron 23 casos por no disponer de la información necesaria, quedando un total de 821 casos. La prevalencia de DM fue de 15,6% (13,2-18,2), con una razón de prevalencia ajustada por edad de 1,29 (1,28-1,29) respecto a la población general y de 1,73 (1,72-1,73) ajustada por sexo. La tasa de incidencia estimada de TB entre población diabética es de 24,3 por 100.000, 1,7 veces la de la población general de la región. Conclusiones: La prevalencia de DM en la población con tuberculosis de la Región Metropolitana fue mayor que la encontrada en la población general y se ratifica a los diabéticos como grupo de riesgo para desarrollar tuberculosis.
