Abstract Colon cancer is a prevalent malignancy, while recent studies revealed the dys-regulation of Hippo signaling as the important driver for colon cancer progression. Several studies have indicated that post-translational modifications on YAP play crucial roles in both Hippo signaling activity and cancer progression. This raises a puzzling question about why YAP/TAZ, an auto-inhibitory pathway, is frequently over-activated in colon cancer, despite the suppressive cascade of Hippo signaling remaining operational. The protein stability of YAP is subject to a tiny balance between ubiquitination and deubiquitination processes. Through correlation analysis of DUBs (deubiquitinases) expression and Hippo target gene signature in colon cancer samples, we found JOSD1 as a critical deubiquitinase for Hippo signaling and colon cancer progression. JOSD1 could facilitate colon cancer progression and in colon cancer, inhibition of JOSD1 via shRNA has been demonstrated to impede tumorigenesis. Furthermore, molecular mechanism studies have elucidated that JOSD1 enhances the formation of the Hippo/YAP transcriptome by impeding K48-linked polyubiquitination on YAP. ChIP assays have shown that YAP binds to JOSD1’s promoter region, promoting its gene transcription. These results suggest that JOSD1 is involved in both activating and being targeted by the Hippo signaling pathway in colon cancer. Consequently, a positive regulatory loop between JOSD1 and Hippo signaling has been identified, underscoring their interdependence during colon cancer progression. Thus, targeting JOSD1 may represent a promising therapeutic approach for managing colon cancer.

Abstract The wave equation revealing the wave propagation in chiral phononic crystals, established through force equilibrium law, conceals the underlying physical information, such as the essence of the motion coupling and the inertial amplification effect. This has led to a controversy over the bandgap mechanism. In this article, we theoretically unveil the reason for this controversy, and put forward an alternative approach from wave behavior to formulate the wave equation, offering an alternative pathway to articulate the bandgap physics directly. Based on the physics revealed by our theory method, we identify the obstacles in coupled acoustic and optic branches to widen and lower the bandgap. Then we introduce an approach based on spherical hinges to decrease the barriers, for customizing the bandgap frequency and width. Finally, we validate our proposal through numerical simulation and experimental demonstration.

Abstract Background Lupus nephritis (LN) is the most common cause of kidney injury in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients and is associated with increased mortality. DNA methylation, one of the most important epigenetic modifications, has been reported as a key player in the pathogenesis of SLE. Hence, our article aimed to explore DNA methylation in CD4+ T cells from LNs to identify additional potential biomarkers and pathogenic genes involved in the progression of LN. Methods Our study enrolled 46 SLE patients with or without kidney injury and 23 healthy controls from 2019 to 2022. CD4+ T cells were sorted for DNA methylation genotyping and RNA-seq. Through bioinformatics analysis, we identified the significant differentially methylated CpG positions (DMPs) only in the LN group and validated them by Bisulfite PCR. Integration analysis was used to screen for differentially methylated and expressed genes that might be involved in the progression of LN, and the results were analyzed via cell experiments and flow cytometry. Results We identified 243 hypomethylated sites and 778 hypermethylated sites only in the LN cohort. Three of these DMPs, cg08332381, cg03297029, and cg16797344, were validated by Bisulfite PCR and could be potential biomarkers for LN. Integrated analysis revealed that the expression of BCL2L14 and IFI27 was regulated by DNA methylation, which was validated by azacytidine (5-aza) treatment. The overexpression of BCL2L14 in CD4+ T cells might induce renal fibrosis and inflammation by regulating the differentiation and function of Tfh cells. Conclusion Our study identified novel aberrant DMPs in CD4+ T cells only in LN patients and DNA methylation-regulated genes that could be potential LN biomarkers. BCL2L14 is likely involved in the progression of LN and might be a treatment target.

Abstract Lead-barium silicate system products, represented by barium copper silicate and lead-barium glass, epitomize a unique artistic craftsmanship of ancient China. Specifically, barium copper silicate products were the only known artificially synthesized blue-purple inorganic pigments in ancient China. Painted pottery decorated with barium copper silicate pigment, predominantly found in elite tombs after 2nd century B.C., is exceedingly rare and holds immense archaeological significance. This case employed multi micro-scale analytical techniques, such as ultra-depth-of-field microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, µ X-ray Diffraction, and electron probe microanalysis, for comprehensive microscopic examination of a rare Chinese Purple (CP, BaCuSi2O6) pigments on painted pottery. The analytical results confirm that the purple pigment is BaCuSi2O6, accompanied by cinnabar for the red and bone white for the white sections, suggesting the probable use of organic residues as an adhesive. Additionally, the study reveals microstructural characteristics in CP faience and CP pigments, notably the encapsulation of CP particles by quartz particles. Therefore, it can be hypothesized that the process of manufacturing purple pigment was achieved by grinding faience into fine particles and then using an organic-based adhesive to adhere these particles to the pottery. This implies that the evolutions in CP products circa the 2nd century B.C. were driven not by technological advances from lead-barium glass, but rather by shifts in application methods, reflecting an adaptation process among different cultures. This study provides new perspectives and significant insights for comprehending the interplay between barium copper silicate and lead-barium glass, reconstructing ancient pottery painting techniques, and exploring the era’s technological and cultural interactions.

Abstract Introduction College students’ physical fitness is likely to be directly related to their cells’ health. However, there is a lack of literature on whether the relationship between cell health and college students’ physical fitness is direct or indirect. This study used a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach to investigate the connection between cell health and college students’ physical fitness. Methods This cross-sectional study collected data from 838 volunteers (502 males and 336 females, average age of 18.74 ± 1.5 years) who were college students from the Shandong province of China in July 2023. Initially, we obtained anthropometric measurements and conducted physical fitness tests on the students. Then, we performed Pearson correlation analysis and principal component analysis to screen variables and explore potentially influencing factors. Finally, we examined associations between the variables and determined whether there were direct or indirect influences among factors using SEM. Abstract In this paper, a method based on transfer learning is proposed to recover the three-dimensional shape of cultural relics faces from a single old photo. It can simultaneously reconstruct the three-dimensional facial structure and align the texture of the cultural relics with fewer training samples. The UV position map is used to represent the three-dimensional shape in space and act as the output of the network. A convolutional neural network is used to reconstruct the UV position map from a single 2D image. In the training process, the human face data is used for pre-training, and then a small amount of artifact data is used for fine-tuning. A deep learning model with strong generalization ability is trained with fewer artifact data, and a three-dimensional model of the cultural relic face can be reconstructed from a single old photograph. The methods can train more complex deep networks without a large amount of cultural relic data, and no over-fitting phenomenon occurs, which effectively solves the problem of fewer cultural relic samples. The method is verified by restoring a Chinese Terracotta Warrior with facial cracks and a Buddha with a broken nose. Other applications can be used in the fields such as texture recovery, facial feature extraction, and three-dimensional model estimation of the damaged cultural relics or sculptures in the photos.

Corn straw-based board has great potential for the protection of forest resources, waste recycling, and sustainable economic development. However, corn stalk-based board has poor mechanical properties due to its short fiber length and poor water resistance because of the presence of numerous hydrophilic hydroxyl functional groups in its structure. Natural mycelium originating from waste Pleurotus ostreatus substrate is a hydrophobic bio-adhesive. In the present study, formaldehyde-free corn stalk/P. ostreatus substrate bio-composites were prepared using the hot-pressing technique without the addition of any chemical adhesive. The mechanical properties and water resistance of the prepared bio-composites were excellent. The highest internal bonding strength (IBS) of 2.16 MPa and the minimum thickness swelling (TS) of 18.3% were observed, which are beyond the national standards for particleboard in China. These bio-composites were prepared using a simple, green, and convenient manufacturing method to promote their popularization and application. The method may, therefore, be used as a novel technical measure to resolve the problem of overuse of forestry resources and waste disposal.

As a typical structural weak surface, bedding is ubiquitous in coal seams. The relative mechanical properties between coal seam bedding and coal matrix are the key to determining the effect of enhancing permeability by microwave in coal seams with bedding development. To this end, a self-developed microwave irradiation (MI) test device was used to carry out microwave fracturing coal experiments on coal samples with an angle of 0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° between the bedding plane and the loading direction. The evolution characteristics of microscopic pore structure and microscopic cracks of coal samples with different bedding directions were explored, and the influence of bedding structure on the number, scale, and connectivity of coal pores and fractures under MI was revealed. The gas permeability characteristics of coal in different bedding directions before and after MI were compared and analyzed. The variation law of coal permeability under the influence of coal seam bedding and fracturing coal by microwave was clarified, and the influence mechanism of coal seam bedding on fracturing coal and enhancing permeability by microwave was revealed. The results show that the coal seam bedding has a significant effect on the effect of fracturing coal and enhancing permeability by microwave. The larger the angle between the bedding plane and the loading direction, the greater the reduction of the bound pores and the growth of the connected fractures of the coal under MI. Compared with the original coal samples, the order of magnitude difference between the permeability of coal samples in different bedding directions after MI is effectively reduced, and the permeability anisotropy is obviously weakened. The development of meso-cracks in coal under MI has a significant bedding effect. The specific evolution process is first to expand the original cracks along the bedding plane, followed by the initiation of new cracks along the bedding plane, and finally to expand the cracks intersecting with the bedding plane. The difference of dielectric loss and heat transfer properties between coal matrix and bedding plane makes the thermal stress distribution of coal subject to the bedding plane. When the bedding plane is perpendicular or parallel to the loading direction, the coal body is dominated by tensile failure. When the bedding plane is oblique to the loading direction, the coal body is dominated by shear slip failure.

Abstract Natural language processing techniques enable extraction of valuable information from large amounts of published literature for the application of data science and technology, i.e. machine learning in the field of materials science. Nevertheless, the automated extraction of data from full-text documents remains a complex task. We propose a document-level natural language processing pipeline for literature extraction of comprehensive information on layered cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries. The pipeline enhances entity recognition with contextual supplementary information while capturing the article structure. Finally, a heuristic multi-level relationship extraction algorithm is employed in relation extraction to extract experimental parameters and complex performance relationships respectively. We successfully extracted a comprehensive dataset containing 5265 records from 1747 documents, encompassing essential information such as chemical composition, synthesis parameters, and electrochemical properties. By implementing our pipeline, we have made significant progress in overcoming the challenges associated with data scarcity in battery informatics. The extracted datasets provide a valuable resource for further research and development in the field of layered cathode materials.

Abstract The dysregulation of Hippo signaling is a crucial factor driving the progression of gastric cancer, making the targeting of the Hippo pathway a promising therapeutic strategy. However, effective drugs targeting the Hippo/YAP axis remain unavailable. Thus, identifying potential therapeutic targets and mechanisms that inhibit the activity of the Hippo/YAP axis in gastric cancer is of paramount importance. The ubiquitination modification of the Hippo/YAP pathway plays a significant role in signaling transduction and cancer progression. In an effort to shed light on effective therapeutic targets, we conducted a screening using a deubiquitinase small interfering RNA library, leading to the identification of USP12 as an important deubiquitinase in the context of Hippo/YAP axis and the progression of gastric cancer. Our bioinformatic analysis further demonstrated a correlation between USP12 and poor survival, as well as a positive association with classical YAP target genes in gastric cancer samples. Notably, USP12 depletion was found to inhibit gastric cancer progression via the Hippo/YAP axis, whereas USP12 overexpression exhibited the opposite effect, promoting gastric cancer growth and enhancing YAP activity. Further studies through immuno-staining and immuno-precipitation assays indicated the nuclear localization of USP12 and its association with YAP to enhance YAP stability. Specifically, our findings revealed that USP12 could inhibit K48-linked poly-ubiquitination of YAP, predominantly at the K315 site. As a result, we have identified a novel regulatory mechanism involving USP12 and Hippo signaling in the progression of gastric cancer, with the potential for blockade of USP12 to materialize as a promising strategy for combating gastric cancer.

The escalating demand for free-form buildings presents a formidable technological hurdle in the realm of prefabrication manufacturing and assembly. This research draws inspiration from recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) and seeks to harness their transformative potential in tandem with Building Information Modeling (BIM) to advance the Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) method. The ultimate aim is to catapult the prefabrication industry into an era characterized by unparalleled design freedom and heightened efficiency. The research includes contributions from the following four areas: (1) A review of the literature on DfMA theories, specifically fabrication and construction. (2) The development of a BIM-based DfMA method framework, including the methodological basis, Design for Manufacturing (DfM), and Design for Assembly (DfA). (3) A pipeline for LLMs driven BIM-based DfMA method framework and a validation using the Decathlon Solar Team design-build practice at the University of Washington’s Lotus House. (4) An evaluation of 692 conversation scenarios to verify the feasibility of our proposal. We get a 91.1% user agreement on average based on GPT4. The research results could guide the workflow in building a lifecycle for DfMA practices in the future smart manufacturing era.

Abstract Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) comparative efficacy of treatments using video-assisted thoracoscopic sympathectomy (VATS) in the long term remains uncertain in patients with palmar hyperhidrosis (PHH). This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of RFA and VATS in patients with PHH. We recruited patients aged ≥ 14 years with diagnosed PHH from 14 centres in China. The treatment options of RFA or VATS were assigned to two cohort in patients with PHH. The primary outcome was the efficacy at 1-year. A total of 807 patients were enrolled. Abstract During the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, both high levels of post-traumatic stress and positive personal changes, a phenomenon known as post-traumatic growth (PTG), were experienced by some people. What remains unknown are the constructs and facilitators of PTG during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, this study uses a grounded theory methodology to elucidate the behavioral and cognitional dimensions of PTG in Chinese college students. Twenty-four individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with Chinese college students who had positive experiences during the epidemic. Transcripts were analyzed using initial and focused coding to identify themes that explained the PTG model. The coding results revealed that the Chinese college students’ PTG consisted of four core themes: reflections on the country and society, self-awareness changes, increased social behavior, and lifestyle modifications. Additionally, participants described external factors such as information input and patriotism, which were identified as influencing their PTG during the pandemic. Findings from this study extend prior theory and research by conceptualizing a novel theoretical model for PTG among college students during the pandemic and provide important implications for research and practice.

BackgroundTunneling technique has shown preliminary promise in lung segmentectomy which requires the use of staplers in specific procedures. However, the obstacle when staples pass is the most obvious factor hindering the implementation and development of this technique. This study investigated whether the obstacle of the technology could be addressed by using an innovative self-designed stapler tractor and analyzed the combined and respective advantages of them.MethodsThe clinical data of patients with lung nodules located near anatomical sites with potential tunnel creation treated by segmentectomy were analyzed in this retrospective case-control study. The data were divided into four groups according to four distinct surgical strategies: In Group A, the tunneling technique was performed with a stapler tractor; in Group B, the tunneling technique was performed without a stapler tractor; in Group C, didn’t perform the tunneling technique but using stapler tractor in a normal approach; and in Group D, neither performed the technique nor used the stapler tractor. The general linear data, operation times, intraoperative adverse events, postoperative recovery and complications were compared.ResultsCompared with other groups, Group A exhibited the best surgical outcomes in comprehensive aspects. Separately, the tunnel groups (Group A&B) had better outcomes in the macro implementation of operation, including resection margin, the number of sampled intrapulmonary lymph nodes and resected subsegments, while the staple tractor groups (Group A&C) performed better on details of the procedure, including operation time, conversion to thoracotomy, and intraoperative bleeding (p < 0.05). Both of them were beneficial for shorter hospital stay, and the tunnel group was more advantageous.ConclusionThe tunneling technique is an advanced and beneficial surgical strategy for performing precise resection of lung segments while a stapler tractor can promote and facilitate it as a supplementary instrument. They show more combined benefits in effectively minimizing the occurrence of erroneous injuries and enhancing the operational efficacy.

This paper addresses the problem of animating a person in static images, the core task of which is to infer future poses for the person. Existing approaches predict future poses in the 2D space, suffering from entanglement of pose action and shape. We propose a method that generates actions in the 3D space and then transfers them to the 2D person. We first lift the 2D pose of the person to a 3D skeleton, then propose a 3D action synthesis network predicting future skeletons, and finally devise a self-supervised action transfer network that transfers the actions of 3D skeletons to the 2D person. Actions generated in the 3D space look plausible and vivid. More importantly, self-supervised action transfer allows our method to be trained only on a 3D MoCap dataset while being able to process images in different domains. Experiments on three image datasets validate the effectiveness of our method.

This study delves into the intricate relationship between economic growth and its ecological repercussions, employing a comprehensive assessment of ecological footprint across 131 nations. The time period considered for the research spans from 2009 to 2019. Utilizing the CS-ARDL methodology, the results indicate a correlation between reducing ecological footprint and bolstering private sector domestic credit. Additionally, a relationship between diminishing private sector domestic credit of banks and augmenting private sector domestic credit within the financial sector has been identified. In conjunction with other indicators of financial advancement, the significance of domestic lending to the private sector has been underscored. The study reveals a notable reduction in human population's adverse impact on the environment. However, increased levels of energy consumption, foreign direct investment and per capita GDP are associated with an improvement in global quality of life. Particularly noteworthy is the validation of the ''pollution haven hypothesis'' in the global economic context. The implications of this research are substantial; suggesting that global economic dynamics may support efforts towards environmental conservation. However, outcomes may vary across regions or countries, particularly regarding the emphasis placed by the financial sector on environmental preservation. This study comprehensively examines the complex nexus between economic progress and its ecological consequences, keeping in consideration factors such as financial growth, urbanization, energy consumption and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

IntroductionThis meta-analysis investigates the relationship between coach leadership behaviors and athlete satisfaction and group cohesion within the realm of Chinese sports. The study also explores player sex and player classification as potential moderating variables. The primary focus is on evaluating the impact of coaching behaviors, as measured by the Leadership Scale for Sports, on athlete satisfaction and group cohesion.MethodsStandard literature searches from China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang academic databases produced 26 studies encompassing a total of 319 effect sizes and a participant pool of 7,121 athletes across various sports.ResultsUsing the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) to examine relevant data, results reveal a moderate and positive association between coach leadership and athlete satisfaction (ES = 0.412). Specifically, training and instruction (ES = 0.531), positive feedback (ES = 0.526), social support, and democratic decision-making exhibit positive effects, while autocratic behavior demonstrates a marginal positive effect. Similarly, a moderate positive relationship is identified between coach leadership and overall group cohesion (ES = 0.275), with training and instruction (ES = 0.396), social support (ES = 0.356), positive feedback, and democratic behavior positively influencing cohesion. Conversely, autocratic behavior has a small negative impact on cohesion. Furthermore, female athletes (ES = 0.603) and professional players (ES = 0.544) display stronger positive associations between coach leadership and satisfaction.ConclusionThese findings highlight the significance of diverse coaching behaviors aligned with player characteristics for fostering positive athlete satisfaction and group cohesion within the Chinese sports context, offering valuable guidance to Chinese coaches aiming to enhance their coaching strategies.

Abstract Fabrication of versatile hydrogels in a facile and effective manner represents a pivotal challenge in the field of biomaterials. Herein, a novel strategy is presented for preparing on‐demand degradable hydrogels with multilevel responsiveness. By employing selenol‐dichlorotetrazine nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) to synthesize hydrogels under mild conditions in a buffer solution, the necessity of additives or posttreatments can be obviated. The nucleophilic and redox reactions between selenol and tetrazine culminate in the formation of three degradable chemical bonds—diselenide, aryl selenide, and dearomatized selenide—in a single, expeditious step. The resultant hydrogel manifests exceptional adaptability to intricate environments in conjunction with self‐healing and on‐demand degradation properties. Furthermore, the resulting material demonstrated light‐triggered antibacterial activity. Animal studies further underscore the potential of integrating metformin into Se‐Tz hydrogels under green light irradiation, as it effectively stimulates angiogenesis and collagen deposition, thereby fostering efficient wound healing. In comparison to previously documented hydrogels, Se‐Tz hydrogels exhibit controlled degradation and drug release, outstanding antibacterial activity, mechanical robustness, and bioactivity, all without the need for costly and intricate preparation procedures. These findings underscore Se‐Tz hydrogels as a safe and effective therapeutic option for diabetic wound dressings.

Tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, that seriously endangers human health. Skeletal tuberculosis is the most common type of extrapulmonary tuberculosis and tuberculous arthritis is the second most common type of skeletal tuberculosis. We report a case series of patients with tuberculous arthritis, two of whom had no joint disease in the past and presented as monoarthritis. The final patient had a history of rheumatoid arthritis, with polyarthritis that was aggravated during treatment with glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive drugs. This series of cases can contribute to early diagnosis and treatment with appropriate infection control measures.

Abstract Algorithmic control has been reflected in online labor platform management, but there is a lack of empirical research on how platform algorithmic control affects platform workers’ service performance. To address this gap, drawing upon the transactional theory of stress and regulatory focus theory, this study sheds light on how perceived algorithmic control affects the platform workers’ service performance. Data collected from 286 platform workers was used for empirical study. Findings indicate: (1) perceived algorithmic control indirectly positively affects service performance through job crafting; (2) perceived algorithmic control indirectly negatively affects service performance through withdrawal behavior; (3) the indirect effect of perceived algorithmic control on service performance via job crafting is stronger when there is a high promotion focus and weaker in the case of high prevention focus; and (4) the indirect effect of perceived algorithmic control on service performance via withdrawal behavior is weaker in situations of high promotion focus and stronger in those of high prevention focus. The theoretical and practical implications are also discussed in this work.

With the rapid development of aquaculture in China in recent decades, the country now faces environmental problems, such as high energy consumption and severe environmental pollution. The Yangtze River Basin is the most important area for freshwater aquaculture production in China, accounting for more than half of the total production. The environmental issues induced by aquaculture have received widespread consideration in this area. However, the freshwater farming-induced environmental issues in the Yangtze River Basin were rarely evaluated in prior research. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a valid tool for assessing environmental impacts and resources and is widely deployed in the industrial sector. It can quantify the impact of a product or service on different environmental indicators at various stages of the production process, thereby aiding in the identification of the best measures to reduce environmental impacts. The LCA is more effective than traditional environmental impact assessment methods; thus, it has been gradually applied in other fields, such as agriculture and aquaculture, in recent years. In aquaculture, LCA has been used to evaluate the environmental impact of various farming models or species in a laboratory setting. However, little attention has been paid to large-scale systems, such as the Yangtze River Basin. The two most important farming models in China are the pond farming model and the integrated rice-fish farming model. Among them, the integrated rice-fish farming model is regarded as environmentally friendly and an important step towards realizing the sustainable development of aquaculture in terms of the efficient utilization of water and land resources. Therefore, in this study, the environmental effects of pond farming and integrated rice-fish farming models were investigated in the Yangtze River Basin using the LCA method. A total of 20 monitoring points were established in the Yangtze River Basin, including 5 for integrated rice-fish farming and 15 for pond culture. In the integrated rice-fish farming model, the life cycle consists of two stages: Feed supply and breeding. In pond culture, the life cycle consists of three stages: Feed supply, power supply, and breeding. We analyzed the values of energy use (EU), global warming potential (GWP), acidification potential (AP), eutrophication potential (EP), and water use (WU) in the pond farming and integrated rice-fish farming models using the LCA method, assessed the contribution rate of each phase for environmental indices, and compared the environmental impact of the two farming models. In order to establish the inputs and outputs of an aquaculture system, experimental measurements and surveys were conducted to collect data. The collected data mainly included feed consumption, electricity consumption, water consumption, total phosphorus and total nitrogen emissions, and greenhouse gas (CH4 and N2O) emissions. The data were analyzed by the LCA software eBalance. In this study, the weight gain of 1 ton of aquaculture products served as the functional unit, and the results were standardized and evaluated in order to compare the environmental impacts of various impact indicators. The results showed that the standardized and weighted evaluation values of WU, EP, GWP, AP, and EU in the integrated rice-fish farming model were 11.650, 0.770, 0.141, 0.096, and 0.003, respectively, and the total environmental impact indicator was 12.660. In the pond farming model, the values of WU, EP, GWP, AP, and EU were 31.453, 1.187, 0.210, 0.174, and 0.007, respectively, and the total environmental impact indicator was 33.031. The environmental impacts of integrated rice-fish farming were lower than those of pond farming. The contribution rate analysis of the three stages of the life cycle to environmental impact showed that the contribution rates of EU, GWP, and AP in the feed supply stage were higher than those in the power supply and breeding stages. EP was primarily associated with the feed supply stage and pollutant discharge stages of the breeding process, and WU was principally concentrated on the breeding stage. Overall, the LCA results showed that the integrated rice-fish farming model had a more environmentally friendly effect than the pond farming model, which indicates that the Yangtze River Basin has considerable development potential. WU was the most influential environmental impact indicator and the main restriction factor in aquaculture; it was mainly associated with the breeding stage. Therefore, moderately increasing stocking density was an effective strategy for reducing water resource consumption and improving water resource utilization rates. In addition to WU, the main environmental impact index of the pond culture model and integrated rice-fish farming models comprised EP, followed by GWP, AP, and EU. The contribution rate analyses of the two models showed that the aquaculture-induced environmental impacts could be mitigated by improving feed production technology, establishing accurate feeding technologies, applying advanced effluent water treatment technologies, and appropriately increasing stocking density in the Yangtze River Basin. In summary, in this study, we compared the environmental impacts between the pond culture and integrated rice-fish farming models in the Yangtze River Basin using the LCA method. In addition, we analyzed the differences between environmental impacts at different production stages. These data served as a reference for the sustainable development and optimization of aquaculture in the Yangtze River Basin.

Abstract Background Lateral wall fractures represent crucial risk factors for postoperative internal fixation failure in intertrochanteric femoral fractures. However, no consensus exists on the type of lateral wall fracture requiring interventional management. This study aimed to investigate the effect of residual lateral wall volume on the postoperative stability of intertrochanteric femur fractures with associated lateral wall fractures, providing valuable reference for the clinical management of the lateral wall. Methods Eleven bone defect models of intertrochanteric femur fractures with varying residual lateral wall volumes were constructed using finite element analysis. These models were fixed with proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA). Simulations of von Mises stress and displacement distribution of the PFNA and femur during normal walking were conducted. Statistical analysis was performed to assess the correlation between volume and the maximum von Mises stresses and displacements of the PFNA and femur. Results In all 11 models, the maximum von Mises stress and displacement of the helical blade, intramedullary nail, and femur occurred at the same locations. As residual lateral wall volume increased, the maximum von Mises stress and displacement of the helical blade, intramedullary nail, and maximum femoral displacement gradually decreased. However, the overall trend of the maximum femoral von Mises stress gradually decreased. At 70% retention of the residual lateral wall volume, there was a more pronounced change in the value of the maximum stress change of the helical blade and the intramedullary nail. Statistical analysis, including the Shapiro–Wilk test and Pearson correlation analysis, demonstrated a significant negative correlation between volume and the maximum von Mises stress and displacement of the helical blade, intramedullary nail, and femur. Linear regression analysis further confirmed this significant negative correlation. Conclusion Finite element analysis of the residual lateral wall revealed a significant correlation between volume and the postoperative stability of intertrochanteric femur fractures. A volume of 70% may serve as the threshold for stabilizing the residual lateral wall. Volume emerges as a novel index for evaluating the strength of the residual lateral walls.

Se-chitosan with a high Se content of 139 mg/g was successfully synthesized using the glacial acetic acid-sodium selenite (HAc-Na2SeO3) method. The chemical structure of Se-chitosan was characterized by FTIR, XRD, TGA, UV–vis and 13C NMR, confirming that selenite acid was introduced into chitosan via the esterification reaction of the hydroxyl group at C6 and the electrostatic interaction of the amino group at C2 of chitosan. Agarose hydrogels were designed as an efficient carrier of Se-chitosan for Se-enriched cultivation of sprouts. The hydrogels exhibited a porous structure, which is beneficial for Se diffusion in hydrogels. The growth indexes of sprouts grown in Agar/Se-chitosan composite hydrogels with different Se concentrations, including plant weight, plant height and Se content, were investigated. The results showed that in the Se-enriched cultivation of sprouts, Se-chitosan possessed an excellent Se enrichment effect. As the Se concentration in Agar/Se-chitosan composite hydrogels increases from 0 to 1600 μg/L, the Se content of the sprouts will also increase from 0.92 mg/kg to 6.79 mg/kg accordingly. Moreover, it is necessary to control the amount of Se-chitosan added to the hydrogels; otherwise, the growth of sprouts will be inhibited. This research provided a simple and effective method for the fabrication of Se-containing hydrogels for Se-enriched cultivation of sprouts.

Abstract In cancer radiotherapy (RT), each step can be digitalized, from CT simulation, planning, dose verification, and image guidance to treatment delivery. Therefore, RT may be the most digitized discipline in the field of internal medicine. Then, questions arise. What potential development opportunities does the development of network transmission technologies, such as blockchain and 5G, provide to promote the progress of tumor RT? What will the future of smart RT (SART) look like? The purpose of this article is to introduce briefly the main characteristics of blockchain and 5G transmission technologies and share ideas to imagine the “tomorrow” of smart RT, hoping to provide a more accurate, safe, and comfortable RT experience for patients in the future.

Abstract Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancerous tumor in women, characterized by different subtypes and varying responses to treatment. The continued evolution of breast cancer diagnosis and management has resulted in a transition from a one‐size‐fits‐all approach to a new era of personalized treatment plans. Therefore, it is essential to accurately identify the biological characteristics of breast tissue in order to minimize unnecessary biopsies of benign lesions and improve the overall clinical process, leading to reduced expenses and complications associated with invasive biopsy procedures. Challenges for future research include finding ways to predict the response of breast cancer patients to adjuvant systemic treatment. Dual‐energy CT (DECT) is a new imaging technology integrating functional imaging and molecular imaging. Over the past decade, DECT has gained relevancy, especially in oncological radiology. This article proposed a literature review of the application and research status of DECT in breast cancer treatment strategy determination and prognosis prediction.

Abstract Background Dynamic hip screws (DHS) and proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA) were recommended for basicervical femoral neck fracture (BFNF), however, with high rate of postoperative femoral neck shortening. The proximal femoral bionic nail (PFBN) was designed to decrease the postoperative complications associated with DHS and PFNA. The aim of this study is to compare the biomechanical characters of DHS, PFNA, and PFBN for fixation of BFNF. Methods Using finite element analysis, we created a three-dimensional model of the BFNF for this investigation. The PFBN group, the PFNA group and the DHS + DS group were our three test groups. For each fracture group, the von Mises stress and displacements of the femur and internal fixation components were measured under 2100 N axial loads. Results The PFBN group demonstrated the lowest stress on the implants, significantly lower than the PFNA and DHS + DS groups. In terms of stress on the implants, the PFBN group exhibited the best performance, with the lowest stress concentration at 112.0 MPa, followed by the PFNA group at 124.8 MPa and the DHS + DS group at 149.8 MPa. The PFBA group demonstrated the smallest displacement at the fracture interface, measuring 0.21 mm, coupled with a fracture interface pressure of 17.41 MPa, signifying excellent stability. Conclusions Compared with DHS and PFNA, PFBN has advantages in stress distribution and biological stability. We believe the concept of triangle fixation will be helpful to reduce femoral neck shortening associated with DHS and PFNA and thus improve the prognosis of BFNF.

With the development of science and technology and the improvement of hardware computing power, the application of large models in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) has become a current research hotspot Among the focal points in the field of deep learning, AI for science is one of the highlighted areas, utilizing deep learning methods for pattern recognition, anomaly detection, predictive analysis, and more on a large scale of scientific data. In the realm of materials science, the structure of crystals is composed of edges and nodes, making it readily representable as a graph. In previous research, some typical models, such as the MEGNet model, utilized their graph neural network features to fit computational results based on density functional theory for predicting various material properties. Building on this concept, the authors propose a novel graph neural network (GNN) model, optimized with a Multi-Head Self-Attention (MHSA) mechanism, for predicting materials data with crystal structures. This model is named self-attention enhanced graph neural network. The model segments the input data into three parts: edges, nodes, and global features. The graph convolutional layer module is primarily used for aggregating node, edge, and global features, learning node representations, and capturing higher-order neighborhood information through multiple layers of GNN. The MHSA component allows nodes to learn global dependencies, providing different representation subspaces for the nodes. In comparison with other machine learning and deep learning models, the results indicate an improvement in the predictive accuracy of this model. A new graph neural network (GNN) model called Self-Attention Enhanced Graph Neural Network (SA-GNN) is proposed for predicting the properties of materials with crystal structures. This model incorporates multi-head self-attention to allow nodes to learn global dependencies and generate different representational subspaces. Compared to other machine learning and deep learning models, the results show improved predictive accuracy, demonstrating the potential of graph networks combined with self-attention for modeling crystal material data.

The common strain black carp (Cyprinus carpio var. baisenensis) is a culturally important carp strain that is raised and cultured in Guangxi Province, China. Its color reflects the interactions between the Burau people and their surrounding environment. The population of the common carp black strain was isolated and cultured in a rice-fish integration system. To explore the genetic diversity and protection of germplasm resources, we analyzed mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences, specifically the displacement loop (D-loop) and cytochrome b (Cytb), using single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP). We compared these sequences with those from four other local common carp populations. The study included a total of 136 adult common carps from five strain populations: the common black carp strain (HJ = 31), Jian (F = 30), Heilongjiang (H = 10), Songpu (S = 31), and Saijiang (SJ = 34). The results of the Cytb and D-loop analyses showed that the Heilongjiang carp (H) and Saijiang (SJ) populations had the highest levels of haplotype diversity (0.867 ± 0.034785) and nucleotide diversity (π = 0.0063 ± 0.000137 and 0.0093 ± 0.000411), respectively. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanism governing this relationship remains unclear. The present study aimed to elucidate the effects of feeding frequencies (2 T/D, 2 times day-1; 3 T/D, 3 times day-1) on the liver health of Coreius guichenoti. BackgroundLung segmentectomy has gained much more attention as an important surgical method for treating early-stage lung cancer. However, incomplete fissures increase the difficulty of lung segmentectomy. The aim of this study was to analyze the safety and efficacy of the fissure-first approach in precision resection of lung segments for patients with incomplete fissures.MethodsThe clinical data of patients with incomplete fissures who underwent lung segmentectomy were retrospectively analyzed. Date was divided into fissure-first approach in lung segmentectomy group (group A) and fissure-last approach in lung segmentectomy group (group B). The general linear data, operation times, intraoperative adverse events, postoperative recovery dates and complications were compared.ResultsA total of 122 patients with complete clinical data were included. Patients in group B had more COPD (p < 0.05), and the lesions in group A were more closely related to the hilum of the lung (p < 0.05). Compared to Group B, Group A achieved better surgical outcomes, such as operation time, postoperative hospital stays, intraoperative bleeding, number of intrapulmonary lymph nodes sampled, counts of resected subsegments (except the upper lobe of the right lung), and rate of conversion to thoracotomy (all p < 0.05).ConclusionThe fissure-first approach is a safe and effective surgical approach in lung segmentectomy for patients with incomplete fissures. This approach can reduce the counts of resected subsegments and improve techniques in lung segmentectomy for patients with lung incomplete fissures.

Abstract Aims It is not clear whether there are differences in glycemic control between the Equil patch and the MMT‐712 insulin pump. Our objective was to compare two types of insulin pumps in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) metrics and profiles. Methods This was a randomized case‐crossover clinical trial. Participants were hospitalized and randomly allocated to two groups and underwent two types of insulin pump treatments (group A: Equil patch—Medtronic MMT‐712 insulin pump; group B: Medtronic MMT‐712—Equil patch insulin pump) separated by a 1‐day washout period. Glycemic control was achieved after 7–8 days of insulin pump therapy. Each patient received CGM for 5 consecutive days (from day 1 to day 5). On day 3 of CGM performance, the Equil patch insulin pump treatment was switched to Medtronic MMT‐712 insulin pump treatment at the same basal and bolus insulin doses or vice versa. CGM metrics and profiles including glycemic variability (GV), time in range (TIR, 3.9–10.0 mmol/L), time below range (TBR, 10.0 mmol/L), and postprandial glucose excursions, as well as incidence of hypoglycemia. Results Forty‐six T2DM patients completed the study. There was no significant difference in parameters of daily GV and postprandial glucose excursions between the Equil patch insulin pump treatment and the Medtronic insulin pump treatment. Similarly, there was no between‐treatment difference in TIR, TBR, and TAR, as well as the incidence of hypoglycemia. Conclusion The Equil patch insulin pump was similar to the traditional MMT‐712 insulin pump in terms of glycemic control. Equil patch insulin pump is a reliable tool for glycemic management of diabetes mellitus.

IntroductionMechanical stress and strain conditions play an important role in atherosclerosis plaque progression, remodeling and potential rupture and may be used in plaque vulnerability assessment for better clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions. Single layer plaque models without residual stress have been widely used due to unavailability of multi-layer image segmentation method and residual stress data. However, vessel layered structure and residual stress have large impact on stress/strain calculations and should be included in the models.MethodsIn this study, intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) data of coronary plaques from 10 patients were acquired and segmented to obtain the three-layer vessel structure using an in-house automatic segmentation algorithm. Multi- and single-layer 3D thin-slice biomechanical plaque models with and without residual stress were constructed to assess the impact of residual stress on stress/strain calculations.ResultsOur results showed that residual stress led to a more uniform stress distribution across the vessel wall, with considerable plaque stress/strain decrease on inner wall and increase on vessel out-wall. Multi-layer model with residual stress inclusion reduced inner wall maximum and mean plaque stresses by 38.57% and 59.70%, and increased out-wall maximum and mean plaque stresses by 572.84% and 432.03%.ConclusionThese findings demonstrated the importance of multi-layer modeling with residual stress for more accurate plaque stress/strain calculations, which will have great impact in plaque cap stress calculation and plaque rupture risk assessment. Further large-scale studies are needed to validate our findings.

Background:Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the major malignancies threatening human lives and health. Non-SMC condensin II complex subunit D3 (NCAPD3) plays a crucial role in the occurrence of many diseases. However, its role in GC remains unexplored.Materials and Methods:The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, clinical samples, and cell lines were used to analyze NCAPD3 expression in GC. NCAPD3 was overexpressed and inhibited by lentiviral vectors and the CRISPR/Cas9 system, respectively. The biological functions of NCAPD3 were investigated in vitro and in vivo. Gene microarray, Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) were performed to establish the potential mechanisms.Results:NCAPD3 was highly expressed in GC and was associated with a poor prognosis. NCAPD3 upregulation significantly promoted the malignant biological behaviors of gastric cancer cell, while NCAPD3 inhibition exerted a opposite effect. NCAPD3 loss can directly inhibit CCND1 and ESR1 expression to downregulate the expression of downstream targets CDK6 and IRS1 and inhibit the proliferation of gastric cancer cells. Moreover, NCAPD3 loss activates IRF7 and DDIT3 to regulate apoptosis in gastric cancer cells.Conclusion:Our study revealed that NCAPD3 silencing attenuates malignant phenotypes of GC and that it is a potential target for GC treatment.

During the development of neural circuits, axons are guided by a variety of molecular cues to navigate through the brain and establish precise connections with correct partners at the right time and place. Many axon guidance cues have been identified and they play pleiotropic roles in not only axon guidance but also axon fasciculation, axon pruning, and synaptogenesis as well as cell migration, angiogenesis, and bone formation. In search of receptors for Sema3E in axon guidance, we unexpectedly found that Plexin B3 is highly expressed in retinal ganglion cells of zebrafish embryos when retinal axons are crossing the midline to form the chiasm. Plexin B3 has been characterized to be related to neurodevelopmental disorders. However, the investigation of its pathological mechanisms is hampered by the lack of appropriate animal model. We provide evidence that Plexin B3 is critical for axon guidance in vivo. Plexin B3 might function as a receptor for Sema3E while Neuropilin1 could be a co-receptor. The intracellular domain of Plexin B3 is required for Semaphorin signaling transduction. Our data suggest that zebrafish could be an ideal animal model for investigating the role and mechanisms of Sema3E and Plexin B3 in vivo.

The topological properties of the networks can be described by the Laplacian spectra, but resolving the Laplacian spectra of networks poses difficulties. In this study, a novel approach for solving the Laplacian spectrum of weighted composite networks is presented. We first give the definitions of three weighted graph operations, namely, Cartesian product, corona, and join. Second, the Laplacian spectra of these composite networks are calculated. Finally, we use the obtained Laplacian spectrum to deduce some topological properties of the networks, such as network coherence, entire mean first-passage time, and Laplacian energy, which have several applications in physical chemistry.

Abstract Background An experimental study was performed to improve the anterior approach model of intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). Objective The aims of this study were to investigate the anterior approach model of IVDD for the cause of death, phenotypes, and underlying mechanisms of low back pain in mice. Method In this study, we conducted an anterior puncture procedure on a cohort of 300 C57BL/6J mice that were 8 weeks old. Our investigation focused on exploring the causes of death in the study population (n = 300) and assessing the time‐course changes in various parameters, including radiographical, histological, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry analyses (n = 10). Additionally, we conducted behavioral assessments on a subset of the animals (n = 30). Results Transverse vertebral artery rupture is a major factor in surgical death. Radiographical analyses showed that the hydration of the nucleus pulposus began to decrease at 2 weeks after puncture and obviously disappeared over 4 weeks. 3D‐CT showed that disc height was significantly decreased at 4 weeks. Osteophyte at the anterior vertebral rims was observed at 2 weeks after the puncture. As the time course increased, histological analyses showed progressive disruption of the destruction of the extracellular matrix and increased secretion of inflammatory cytokines and apoptosis. Behavioral signs of low back pain were increased between the puncture and sham groups at 4 weeks. Conclusion The improvement of anterior intervertebral disc approach model in mice will be useful to investigate underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic strategies for behavior and phenotypes. Furthermore, the application of vibrational pre‐treatment can be used to increase the sensitivity of axial back pain in the model, thereby providing researchers with a reliable method for measuring this critical phenotype.

Abstract Background The Hippo pathway is crucial in organ size control and tumorigenesis. Dysregulation of the Hippo/YAP axis is commonly observed in gastric cancer, while effective therapeutic targets for the Hippo/YAP axis are lacking. Identification of reliable drug targets and the underlying mechanisms that could inhibit the activity of the Hippo/YAP axis and gastric cancer progression is urgently needed. Methods We used several gastric cancer cell lines and xenograft models and performed immunoblotting, qPCR, and in vivo studies to investigate the function of CXCR7 in gastric cancer progression. Results In our current study, we demonstrate that the membrane receptor CXCR7 (C-X-C chemokine receptor 7) is an important modulator of the Hippo/YAP axis. The activation of CXCR7 could stimulate gastric cancer cell progression through the Hippo/YAP axis in vitro and in vivo, while pharmaceutical inhibition of CXCR7 via ACT-1004–1239 could block tumorigenesis in gastric cancer. Molecular studies revealed that the activation of CXCR7 could dephosphorylate YAP and facilitate YAP nuclear accumulation and transcriptional activation in gastric cancer. CXCR7 functions via G-protein Gαq/11 and Rho GTPase to activate YAP activity. Interestingly, ChIP assays showed that YAP could bind to the promoter region of CXCR7 and facilitate its gene transcription, which indicates that CXCR7 is both the upstream signalling and downstream target of the Hippo/YAP axis in gastric cancer. Conclusion In general, we identified a novel positive feedback loop between CXCR7 and the Hippo/YAP axis, and blockade of CXCR7 could be a plausible strategy for gastric cancer.

Abstract Background Previous researches have demonstrated that adaptive replanning during intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) could enhance the prognosis of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). However, the delineation of replanning target volumes remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of reducing target volumes through adaptive replanning during IMRT by analyzing long-term survival outcomes and failure patterns of locoregional recurrence in NPC. Methods This study enrolled consecutive NPC patients who received IMRT at our hospital between August 2011 and April 2018. Patients with initially diagnosed, histologically verified, non-metastatic nasopharyngeal cancer were eligible for participation in this study. The location and extent of locoregional recurrences were transferred to pretreatment planning computed tomography for dosimetry analysis. Results Among 274 patients, 100 (36.5%) received IMRT without replanning and 174 (63.5%) received IMRT with replanning. Five-year rates of locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) were 90.1% (95%CI, 84.8% to 95.4%) and 80.8% (95%CI, 72.0% to 89.6%) for patients with and without replanning, P = 0.045. There were 17 locoregional recurrences in 15 patients among patients with replanning, of which 1 (5.9%) was out-field and 16 (94.1%) were in-field. Among patients without replanning, 19 patients developed locoregional recurrences, of which 1 (5.3%) was out-field, 2 (10.5%) were marginal, and 16 (84.2%) were in-field. Conclusions In-field failure inside the high dose area was the most common locoregional recurrent pattern for non-metastatic NPC. Adapting the target volumes and modifying the radiation dose prescribed to the area of tumor reduction during IMRT was feasible and would not cause additional recurrence in the shrunken area.

Abstract Fine-particle pollution associated with high sulfate and secondary organic aerosol (SOA) contents still occurs in winter, despite considerable reductions in precursor emissions in China. The chemical mechanisms involved are consistently acknowledged to be linked with aerosol water but remain poorly understood. Here, we present findings demonstrating that the synergistic effect of elevated aerosol water content and particles originating from fossil fuel combustion significantly enhanced the rapid formation of sulfate and SOAs under high humidity conditions during winter in northern China. The presence of high aerosol water content promoted the aging process of particles containing elemental carbon (EC) and facilitated the formation of SOAs. Evidence from single particles reveals an increased potential for SOA formation from primary organic aerosols (POAs) originating from fossil fuel combustion, in the presence of increasing aerosol water. Under conditions of relative humidity exceeding 85%, the multiphase oxidation of SO2 by in-particle nitrite/nitrous acid, generated through reactions involving aged EC-containing and iron-rich particles, as well as aqueous-phase formation of hydroxymethanesulfonate (HMS), led to a substantial increase in sulfate production. This study emphasizes the critical role of aerosol water in the aerosol chemistry concerning sulfate and SOAs, highlighting the urgent necessity to mitigate primary emissions from fossil fuel combustion.

Abstract Background This study aims to validate the effectiveness of linear regression for motion prediction of internal organs or tumors on 2D cine-MR and to present an online gating signal prediction scheme that can improve the accuracy of MR-guided radiotherapy for liver and lung cancer. Materials and methods We collected 2D cine-MR sequences of 21 liver cancer patients and 10 lung cancer patients to develop a binary gating signal prediction algorithm that forecasts the crossing-time of tumor motion traces relative to the target threshold. Both 0.4 s and 0.6 s prediction windows were tested using three linear predictors and three recurrent neural networks (RNNs), given the system delay of 0.5 s. Furthermore, an adaptive linear regression model was evaluated using only the first 30 s as the burn-in period, during which the model parameters were adapted during the online prediction process. In this paper, three sorts of network indices for the weighted three-layered graph are studied through the methods of graph spectra theory combined with analysis methods. The concept of union of graphs are applied to design two sorts of weighted layered multi-fan composed graphs, and the accurate mathematical expressions of the network indices are obtained through the derivations of Laplacian spectra; furthermore, the asymptotic properties are also derived. We find that when the cardinalities of the vertices on a sector-edge-link tend to infinity, the indices of FONC and EMFPT are irrelevant with the number of copies of the fan-substructure based on the considered graph framework.

Cyprinus carpio is a significant freshwater species with substantial nutritional and economic value. Rice–carp co-culture represents one of its principal cultivation methods. However, in the system, the optimal farming density for carp and the impact of high stocking density on their muscle nutritional composition have yet to be explored. Thus, the objective of the current study was to investigate the influences of stocking density on the muscle nutrient profiles and metabolism of C. carpio in rice–fish co-culture systems. Common carp were cultured at three stocking densities, low density (LD), medium density (MD), and high density (HD), over a period of 60 days. Following this, comprehensive analyses incorporating physiological, biochemical, and multi-omics sequencing were conducted on the muscle tissue of C. carpio. The results demonstrated that HD treatment led to a reduction in the antioxidant capacity of C. carpio, while resulting in elevated levels of various fatty acids in muscle tissue, including saturated fatty acids (SFAs), omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs), and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-6 PUFAs). The metabolome analysis showed that HD treatment caused a marked reduction in 43 metabolites and a significant elevation in 30 metabolites, primarily linked to lipid and amino acid metabolism. Additionally, transcriptomic analysis revealed that the abnormalities in lipid metabolism induced by high-stocking-density treatment may be associated with significant alterations in the PPAR signaling pathway and adipokine signaling pathway. Overall, our findings indicate that in rice–fish co-culture systems, high stocking density disrupted the balance of antioxidant status and lipid metabolism in the muscles of C. carpio.

The Common Black Carp Strain (Cyprinus carpio var. baisenensis), known for its black skin, is commonly cultured in the integrated rice-agriculture (IRA) system in Guangxi province, China. This study aimed to compare the genetic diversity of three common carp strains/populations (Common Black Carp Strain, Huanghe, and Songpu) using resequencing data. The genome-based method reveals a significant difference (p < 0.05) in identified loci and SNP frequency (p < 1 × 10−6) between the Songpu (Sp) or mirror carp and Huanghe (Hh) new strain. Additionally, the Common Black Carp Strain (Bk) exhibits a higher number of Tajima’s D values, possibly due to its population size and mutations within its entire genome. The average value of population nucleotide diversity (π) for the Bk is 1.706 × 10−4 while the mean number for the Hh and Sp strains is 1.691 × 10−4 Heterozygosity analysis results indicate that the Bk has the highest F coefficient compared to the Sp and Hh hybrids. This suggests that the isolated population of the Bk may have experienced a decrease in population size as a result of environmental disturbances in the IRA system. PCA results further reveal that all individuals of the Bk, except for one, are clustered together, while individuals of the Hh form a separate group. On the other hand, Sp displays a distinct distribution pattern. The comparative study of the genetic diversity of the Bk provides baseline data on its genome makeup. Assessing genetic diversity and genetic structure is critical for fisheries management and the conservation of critically endangered fish species.

The rice–fish co-culture is an important model of carp farming in China; however, research on the dynamics and assembly of water bacterial communities in this system remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the dynamics and assembly of bacterial communities, as well as their correlation with environmental factors in paddy water. For these purposes, this study was divided into two groups: a rice–carp co-culture (WRC) group and a rice monoculture (WRM) group, with 20 rice fields in each group. After 60 days of farming, the concentrations of NH4+-N, NO2−-N, TN, and PO43− were significantly higher in the WRC group than those in the WRM group. Alpha diversity analysis showed that the Shannon index in the WRC group was significantly decreased compared with the WRM group. At the phylum level, the relative abundance of Actinobacteria significantly increased, while the relative abundance of Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes significantly decreased in the paddy water of the WRC group. The neutral community model (NCM) indicated that a random process played a dominant role in the construction of bacterial communities in the two groups, and common carp cultivation increased migration rates, thereby affecting community assembly. The co-occurrence network displayed that common carp cultivation led to looser interactions between bacterial communities. In addition, the contents of nutrients significantly affected the abundance of bacteria in paddy water. In summary, carp cultivation decreased the diversity of bacteria and changed the relative abundance of dominant bacteria, thereby affecting the stability and assembly of bacterial communities.

The largemouth bronze gudgeon has experienced a sharp drop in its natural population and has been listed as a protected species in China. The frequent occurrence of ovarian development obstruction from stage III to IV has restricted artificial propagation. Due to lipids being a crucial factor for ovarian development, this study aimed to characterize the ovarian lipid profile at different development stages in largemouth bronze gudgeons. Using UPLC-MS/MS, 1353 lipids belonging to 46 subclasses were identified in ovaries from largemouth bronze gudgeons. The results showed that glycerolipids and glycerophospholipids were the dominant lipids during ovarian development. Lysophosphatidyl choline (LPC), phosphatidyl choline (PC), and phosphatidylserine (PS), as the crucial phospholipids for ovarian development, were significantly reduced from stage III to IV. This may be the main cause of ovarian development obstruction for largemouth bronze gudgeons. Meanwhile, the enrichment analysis revealed that lipid metabolites are present at different ovarian development stages. Glycerophospholipid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid metabolism were significantly enriched at stage IV. This study shows the complete picture of the ovarian lipid composition profile, and also discovers that phospholipids may be the limiting factor for ovarian development; these findings offer a theoretical basis for the artificial propagation and release of the largemouth bronze gudgeon.

Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a freshwater fish commonly farmed in rice fields, yet there were few studies on the intestinal functions and microbial community structure of common carp in the rice–carp co-culture system. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effects of different stocking densities on the growth, antioxidant status, and intestinal bacterial composition of common carp in this system. This study was divided into three different stocking densities, including low density (LD, 10 fish, 52.9 g/m2), medium density (MD, 20 fish, 105.8 g/m2), and high density (HD, 30 fish, 158.7 g/m2), with a culturing period of 60 days. The results indicated that HD treatment inhibited the growth of common carp, as evidenced by the reduced final weight, WG, and SGR. In serum, the TG content in the HD group and the Cor content in the MD group were significantly increased. Meanwhile, HD treatment induced oxidative stress, manifesting specifically as increased SOD and CAT activities in the intestine or serum while reducing Gpx, GSH, and T-AOC in the serum. The 16S rDNA analysis indicated that the Simpson and Shannon indices of intestinal microbiota in the HD group were significantly higher than those in the LD group. At the phylum level, Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, and Firmicutes were dominant microbial communities in two groups. In addition, there was a significant difference between the two groups in the abundances of Actinobacterota and Bifidobacterium. Based on growth performances, biochemical indicators, and microbial diversity in rice–carp co-culture, low density (52.9 g/m2) may be more suitable in the rice–carp co-culture systems. In summary, this study contributes to a better understanding of common carp response to different stocking densities in the rice–carp co-culture system.

The random movement of occupants in a high-speed railway station results in a more complex indoor environment. In this study, the indoor thermal environment and the thermal comfort in summer were investigated via field measurements and questionnaires in the waiting hall of a high-speed railway station. The results showed that there was an uneven horizontal temperature distribution in the area, and over 30% of the passengers were dissatisfied with the air conditioning system. In order to improve the control of the indoor temperature as well as reduce the energy consumption of the air conditioning system, an improved zonal control strategy and AMPC control optimization algorithm based on real-time people are proposed, and different control strategies are modeled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. It is concluded that the improved zonal control method proposed in this paper can save 28.04% of the fan energy consumption compared with the traditional control strategy.

To effectively detect low-altitude small targets under complex sea surface environment, an innovative method has been developed. This method harnesses the chaotic characteristics of sea clutter and employs a combination of Adaptive Noise Complete Ensemble Empirical Modal Decomposition (CEEMDAN), Adaptive Wavelet Thresholding (AWT), and Polynomial Fitting Filtering (SG) for denoising sea clutter data. Subsequently, the Improved Zebra Optimization Algorithm-Extreme Learning Machine (IZOA-ELM) detector is utilized to identify low-altitude small targets amidst the sea clutter background. To begin, the CEEMDAN method is applied to disentangle the measured sea clutter data into a set of Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs). Afterwords, the Refined Composite Multiscale Dispersion Entropy (RCMDE) is computed for each individual IMF. This process categorizes the IMFs into three distinct components: noise-dominant, signal-noise mixture, and signal-dominant segments. The noise-dominate of IMF component is subjected to denoising through AWT, the signal-noise mixture of IMF components are processed using SG filtering, while the signal-dominant of IMF remains unaltered. The denoised sea clutter signal is reconstructed by concatenating the denoised and unprocessed IMFs. Based on the chaotic nature of sea clutter signals, first-order sea clutter data is transformed into high-dimensional data through phase space reconstruction. The initial weights and thresholds of the ELM are optimized through the IZOA to establish an optimal prediction model. This model is then used to detect small, low-altitude targets by analyzing the prediction error. The algorithm's effectiveness in noise removal is validated using IPIX and SPRR measured sea clutter data, demonstrating a significant improvement in the root mean square of prediction error (RMSE) by one order of magnitude after denoising compared to the pre-denoising state. Furthermore, we observed that the IZOA-ELM method can be effectively applied to detect small targets at low altitudes across various sea conditions. However, when the sea state is complex and greatly affected by the surrounding noise, an effective approach is to first employ CEEMDAN-AWT-SG to denoise the original signal, and then utilize IZOA-ELM for target detection.

BackgroundDepression can result in changes in eating behavior and decrease the quality of eating. It has been shown that maternal depression during pregnancy can result in malnutrition, which can have adverse effects on the pregnancy and the offspring. There is currently no clear association between depression and diet.MethodsFive hundred and forty-nine pregnant women recruited from Danyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Jiangsu Province participated in this study and were administered the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2), Edinburgh Post-natal Depression Scale (EPDS), Pregnancy Stress Scale (PPS), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Dietary Guidelines Adherence Index for Pregnant Women during Pregnancy (CDGCI-PW). The nutritional software collected dietary records for three consecutive days in mid-pregnancy to calculate dietary intake and nutrients that support energy production. The mediation analyses were conducted using SPSS 24.0 macro PROCESS.ResultsThe relationship between depressive symptoms during pregnancy and diet quality was moderated primarily by two aspects of eating behavior, “Reliance on Hunger and Satiety Cues” (RHS) and “Body-Food Choice Congruence” (BFC). Depressive symptoms (EPDS scores) showed a negative correlation with RHS, BFC, and RHS, and BFC showed a positive correlation with diet quality, yielding a significant specific indirect effect. The multiple mediation model explained 14.7% of the variance in the diet quality.ConclusionThis study highlights the important role of eating behaviors during pregnancy in the relationship between depressive symptoms (EPDS scores) and diet quality, and provides preliminary evidence for feasible ways pregnant women with depressive symptoms can improve diet quality, promote maternal and child health, and reduce depression.
