The synthesis and crystal chemistry of indium metal-oxide organic frameworks containing metal-oxide chains connected by different dicarboxylate anions is discussed. The studies provide insight into the influence of the ligand geometry on the coordination of the In atoms and on the formation of the In-O chains.

Investigating the relevant transport parameters for c aixs orientated YBCO films with an emphasis on the discussion of the surface exchange kinetics is presented. The results describe the model in which oxygen molecules dissociated at two different surface sites diffuse rapidly along the grain boundaries which act as short circuits or 'chimneys'.

Research demonstrates the syntheses of a series of vanadium silicates exhibiting open-framework and microporous structures under mild hydrothermal conditions. Data show that the vanadosilicate structures exhibit free channel diameter up to 6.5 angstrom, thermal stability, absorption, and ion-exchange characteristics rendering them useful as molecular sieves or in catalysis.

The syntheses, structures and magnetic properties of a chain compound Cu4-(2-pzc)(sub 4)(H2))(sub 8)(Mo8O26).2H2) and a layer compound Cu3-(2-pzc)(sub 4)(H2O)(sub 2)(V10O28H4).6.5H2) are described. It is found that with the incorporation of different anions other Cu(II)/2-pzc compounds with one- to three-dimensional structures and tunable magnetic properties could be created.

Three new crystalline alkyldiammonium Sr-VBPO compounds are prepared by self-assembly of vanadium borophosphate cluster anions via interdiffusion of solutions containing the separate components at ambient temperature. The specific structure that is formed is determined by the hydrogen bonding between the different organodiammonium cations C(sub n)H(sub 2n)(NH3)(sub 2) (n = 2,3,4) and the cluster anions and the strontium ion coordinations.

Research has been conducted on three coordination polymers. The synthesis and structural characteristics of these polymers are presented.

A study was conducted on the three-dimensional coordination polymers (((n-C4H9)3Sn(super IV))3M(CN)6) (M = Fe, Co). Synthesis of the polymers involved the slow interdiffusion of aqueous solutions of K3(M(CN)6) and the THF solutions of (C4H9)3SnCl. X-ray crystal structures were also determined and compared with those of ((Me3Sn)3Co(CN)6) and other known organotincyanometalate structures.

Reactions of differing simple cobalt salts with 4,4'-bipyridine resulted in several new one-dimensional coordination polymers. Linear chain structures formed by coordination of pyrazine and 4,4'-bipy to metal centers can be expanded to form 2D and/or 3D polymers via other connections. The double chain structure of Cu(C(sub8)H(sub6)N(sub2))C1(sub2) is viewed as a limited extension of a single-chain polymer.

The Co(NCS)2 coordination polymers such as Co(NCS)2(pyz)2, Co(NCS)2(H2O)(4,4'-bipy).4,4'-bipy and Co(NCS)2(4,4'-bipy)2.2(CH3CH2)2O were synthesized by the reaction of Co(NCS)2 with pyrazine and 4,4'-bipyridine. The two-dimensional coordination polymers are composed of six-membered rings of metal ions that are connected by pyrazine ligands that do not form an interpenetrated structure. The structure of the polymer is also dependent on solvent coordination and inclusion during the synthetic process.

The hydrothermal syntheses and characterization of layered, noncentrosymmetric alkali-metal/ammonium vanadium(V) methylphosphonates, M(VO2)3(PO3CH3)2, where M = K, NH4, Rb, Tl, are described. Single-crystal X-ray studies showed hexagonal tungsten oxide like layers of vertex-sharing VO6 octahedra, capped on both sides of the V/O layers by PCH3 entities.
