The photolysis of aqueous solutions with Fe(III) and oxalate was analyzed to determine the kinetics of CCl4 and hexachloroethane (C2Cl6) decomposition reactions. CCl4 exhibited 5%-10% decomposition during photolysis in photo-Fenton chemical reactions. Photo-Fenton chemical reactions also produced a 38% yield of C2Cl6 and Fe(II). Furthermore, carbon tetrachloride radicals were produced by the reduction of CCl4 followed by the formation of C2Cl4 from C2Cl6.

A water-soluble organometallic oxide, Ch3ReO3, catalyzed the reaction between bromide ions and hydrogen peroxide in aqueous acidic solutions. This rhenium catalyst exhibited similar catalytic activities to the enzyme vanadium bromoperoxidase. Peroxide activation included the binding of bromide ions to the rhenium compound during its nucleophilic attack on peroxide ions.

The equilibria and kinetics of the reactions between hydrogen peroxide and methyltrioxorhenium in aqueous perchloric acid solutions is explored. Cooperation is evident for peroxide binding to CH3ReO3 (double bond MTO). The peroxide complexes decompose quicker at lower (H3O+), especially at pH > 3. Biexponential kinetics fits the building of product.

CoSR2+ is a water-soluble cobalt(III) complex. When oxidized by H2O2 with a catalyst CH3ReO3, it forms a (sulfenato)cobalt(III) complex. The CH3ReO3/H2O2 system is analyzed kinetically to determine oxidation mechanisms for organic and inorganic materials while CoSR2+ complexes are analyzed using ultra-violet spectra. The CH3ReO3/H2O2 system releases a powerful kinetically stable oxidant.

The laser flash photolysis study of thiyl radical reactions reveals that thiyl radicals oxidize reduced transition-metal complexes. Inner-sphere reagents react with ethylthiyl radicals to form metal-sulfur bonds. Outer-sphere reagents yield thiolate ions and oxidized metal complexes upon reaction with ethylthiyl radicals.

Visible laser flash photolysis can be utilized to produce carbon-centered radicals from alkyl-Co(14-aneN4)(H2O)2+. Subsequent addition of high concentrations of thiol such as ethanethiol, cysteine and glutathione results in the preparation of thiyl radicals. The kinetics of the reactions of thiyl radicals in aqueous solutions of chromium(II), vanadium(II) and iron(II) complexes have been examined using ABTS2- and TMPD spectroscopic probes. In addition, the reactions of ethanethiyl radicals with the hexaaqua complexes have been examined using the same procedures.
