Abstract Background Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has become a routine endoscopic procedure that is essential for diagnosing and managing various conditions, including gallstone extraction and the treatment of bile duct and pancreatic tumors. Despite its efficacy, post-ERCP infections – particularly those caused by carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) – present significant risks. These risks highlight the need for accurate predictive models to enhance postprocedural care, reduce the mortality risk associated with post-ERCP CRE sepsis, and improve patient outcomes in the context of increasing antibiotic resistance. Objective This study aimed to examine the risk factors for 30-day mortality in patients with CRE sepsis following ERCP and to develop a nomogram for accurately predicting 30-day mortality risk. Methods Data from 195 patients who experienced post-ERCP CRE sepsis between January 2010 and December 2022 were analyzed. Variable selection was optimized via the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was then employed to develop a predictive model, which was evaluated in terms of discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility. Internal validation was achieved through bootstrapping. IntroductionMonitoring the leaf area index (LAI), which is directly related to the growth status of rice, helps to optimize and meet the crop’s fertilizer requirements for achieving high quality, high yield, and environmental sustainability. The remote sensing technology of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has great potential in precision monitoring applications in agriculture due to its efficient, nondestructive, and rapid characteristics. The spectral information currently widely used is susceptible to the influence of factors such as soil background and canopy structure, leading to low accuracy in estimating the LAI in rice.MethodsIn this paper, the RGB and multispectral images of the critical period were acquired through rice field experiments. Based on the remote sensing images above, the spectral indices and texture information of the rice canopy were extracted. Furthermore, the texture information of various images at multiple scales was acquired through resampling, which was utilized to assess the estimation capacity of LAI.Results and discussionThe results showed that the spectral indices (SI) based on RGB and multispectral imagery saturated in the middle and late stages of rice, leading to low accuracy in estimating LAI. Moreover, multiscale texture analysis revealed that the texture of multispectral images derived from the 680 nm band is less affected by resolution, whereas the texture of RGB images is resolution dependent. The fusion of spectral and texture features using random forest and multiple stepwise regression algorithms revealed that the highest accuracy in estimating LAI can be achieved based on SI and texture features (0.48 m) from multispectral imagery. This approach yielded excellent prediction results for both high and low LAI values. With the gradual improvement of satellite image resolution, the results of this study are expected to enable accurate monitoring of rice LAI on a large scale.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory disease characterized by localized pancreatic injury and a systemic inflammatory response. Fatty acids (FAs), produced during the breakdown of triglycerides (TGs) in blood and peripancreatic fat, escalate local pancreatic inflammation to a systemic level by damaging pancreatic acinar cells (PACs) and triggering M1 macrophage polarization. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of lipases' roles in the onset and progression of AP, as well as the effects of long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) on the function of pancreatic acinar cells (PACs). Abnormalities in the function of PACs include Ca2+ overload, premature trypsinogen activation, protein kinase C (PKC) expression, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and mitochondrial and autophagic dysfunction. The study highlights the contribution of long-chain saturated fatty acids (LC-SFAs), especially palmitic acid (PA), to M1 macrophage polarization through the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and the NF-κB pathway. Furthermore, we investigated lipid lowering therapy for AP. This review establishes a theoretical foundation for pro-inflammatory mechanisms associated with FAs in AP and facilitating drug development.

Intracranial aneurysms (IAs), as a common cerebrovascular disease, claims a worldwide morbidity rate of 3.2%. Inflammation, pivotal in the pathogenesis of IAs, influences their formation, growth, and rupture. This review investigates aspirin's modulation of inflammatory pathways within this context. With IAs carrying significant morbidity and mortality upon IAs rupture and current interventions limited to surgical clipping and endovascular coiling, the quest for pharmacological options is imperative. Aspirin's role in cardiovascular prevention, due to its anti-inflammatory effects, presents a potential therapeutic avenue for IAs. In this review, we examine aspirin's efficacy in experimental models and clinical settings, highlighting its impact on the progression and rupture risks of unruptured IAs. The underlying mechanisms of aspirin's impact on IAs are explored, with its ability examined to attenuate endothelial dysfunction and vascular injury. This review may provide a theoretical basis for the use of aspirin, suggesting a promising strategy for IAs management. However, the optimal dosing, safety, and long-term efficacy remain to be established. The implications of aspirin therapy are significant in light of current surgical and endovascular treatments. Further research is encouraged to refine aspirin's clinical application in the management of unruptured IAs, with the ultimate aim of reducing the incidence of aneurysms rupture.

Shank3, a key molecule related to the development and deterioration of autism, has recently been found to downregulate in the murine brain after ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Despite this discovery, however, its effects on neuronal injury and the mechanism underlying the effects remain to be clarified. To address this, in this study, based on genetically modified mice models, we revealed that the expression of Shank3 showed a time-dependent change in murine hippocampal neurons after I/R, and that conditional knockout (cko) of Shank3 in neurons resulted in aggravated neuronal injuries. The protective effects of Shank3 against oxidative stress and inflammation after I/R were achieved through direct binding STIM1 and subsequent proteasome-mediated degradation of STIM1. The STIM1 downregulation induced the phosphorylation of downstream Nrf2 Ser40, which subsequently translocated to the nucleus, and further increased the expression of antioxidant genes such as NQO1 and HO-1 in HT22 cells. In vivo, the study has further confirmed that double knockout of Shank3 and Stim1 alleviated oxidative stress and inflammation after I/R in Shank3cko mice. In conclusion, the present study has demonstrated that Shank3 interacts with STIM1 and inhibits post-I/R neuronal oxidative stress and inflammatory response via the Nrf2 pathway. This interaction can potentially contribute to the development of a promising method for I/R treatment.

Abstract Aim To examine how the effects of hardiness, self‐efficacy and positive academic emotion related to the SRL ability of undergraduate nursing students. Design A cross‐sectional survey was designed. Methods A total of 395 Chinese undergraduate nursing students from two undergraduate colleges filled out the questionnaires from May to June 2019. The relationships between hardiness, self‐efficacy, positive academic emotion and SRL ability were analysed by structural equation modelling. Results The response rate was 94.05%. Intensification of urban construction has gradually destroyed human habitat ecosystems. Plants, which serve as the foundation of ecosystems, require green, low-cost, and effective technologies to sustain their growth in stressful environments. A total of 286 keywords and 10 clusters from the bibliometric analysis of 529 articles (1999–2023) indicate the increasing importance of research on microbial functionality in landscape ecosystems. Phosphate solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs) also improve plant disease resistance, adaptability, and survival. PSMs are widely used to promote plant growth and improve ecological quality. They can increase the availability of phosphorus in the soil and reduce the dependence of plants on chemical fertilizers. Microorganisms regulate phosphorus as key tools in landscape ecosystems. Most importantly, in urban and rural landscape practices, PSMs can be applied to green spaces, residential landscapes, road greening, and nursery planting, which play significant roles in improving vegetation coverage, enhancing plant resistance, improving environmental quality, and mitigating the heat island effect. PSMs are also helpful in restoring the ecological environment and biodiversity of polluted areas, such as brownfields, to provide residents with a more liveable living environment. Therefore, the multiple efficacies of PSM are expected to play increasingly important roles in the construction of urban and rural landscape ecosystems.

Abstract Background A key outcome in coronary heart disease (CHD) is Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL), and family functioning is important in the management of CHD. But few studies have examined both together, and little is known about them among inpatients with CHD in less developed areas of China. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the HRQoL and family functioning status of inpatients with CHD in Lanzhou from Northwest China, and identify the factors that affect their HRQoL. Methods A cross‑sectional study was conducted in 224 CHD inpatients at one major hospital. Sociodemographic data and disease information of CHD inpatients were collected by face-to-face using a structured questionnaire and data were also obtained from patient medical records. HRQoL was measured using the Sickness Impact Profile (SIP). Family functioning was measured using the family APGAR index. Multiple binary logistic regression analysis (MBLRA) was used to explore potential risk factors associated with HRQoL, and Pearson’s correlations were used to assess the relationship between family functioning and HRQoL. Results The overall, physical and psychosocial SIP scores were 25.03 ± 8.52, 18.61 ± 9.90 and 28.08 ± 9.64, respectively. The total family APGAR score was 6.11 ± 2.45. MBLRA found older age, poorer cardiac function and more severe disease were associated with poorer HRQoL, while better family functioning, higher monthly income, and urban living were associated with better HRQoL. Family functioning was weakly to moderately correlated with total and psychosocial HRQoL. Conclusions Older and less affluent inpatients with lower educational level, less family support and more severe CHD have poorest quality of life, and health care providers should consider interventions to support them.

Abstract Background Sirtuins (SIRTs) have key roles in cancer progression. However, the prognostic implications of SIRTs in breast cancer (BC) remains a subject of debate and controversy. Thus, we performed a meta-analysis to identify the precise prognostic value of SIRTs in BC patients. Methods Systematic literature searching was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase databases. The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to estimate the association of SIRTs expression and survival outcomes in BC patients. Results A total of 22 original studies with 6317 patients were eligible for this meta-analysis. The results showed that in patients with BC, elevated SIRTs levels were associated with shorter overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) both in univariate (HR = 1.56, 95% CI 1.21–2.00; HR = 1.67, 95% CI 1.32–2.12, respectively) and multivariate analysis models (HR = 2.11, 95% CI 1.48–3.00; HR = 1.70, 95% CI 1.20–2.39, respectively). Notably, further subgroup analysis revealed that overexpression of SIRT1 and SIRT6 predicted poor OS (HR = 2.65, 95% CI 1.54–4.56; HR = 2.53, 95% CI 1.64–3.90, respectively) and DFS (HR = 1.65, 95% CI 1.07–2.56; HR = 2.74; 95% CI 1.88–4.01, respectively) in BC. Conclusions Our data has elucidated that SIRT1 and SIRT6 could serve as prognostic biomarkers for patients with BC and may contribute to refined patient management.

The deep carbonate buried hills are widely distributed in the Nanpu Sag of Bohai Bay Basin. They have experienced multiple stages of tectonic movement and show a tectonic pattern of alternating sub-sags and uplifts. Exploration discoveries have been achieved in multiple structural belts and layers. In recent years, with the deepening of exploration, many exploratory wells deployed on the slope belt and the downdip area were failed, and the exploration of deep buried hills has stagnated. To clarify the potential and exploration direction of buried hills, on the basis of improvement of seismic data, starting from the three major accumulation elements of hydrocarbon supply window and supply mode, high-quality reservoir type and trap type, the re-evaluation of accumulation conditions and the re-understanding of main controlling factors of accumulation were carried out. The deep Paleozoic carbonate buried hills in the Nanpu Sag develop multiple sets of reservoir-caprock assemblages, [JP] with good physical properties, high-quality source rocks, and favorable hydrocarbon accumulation conditions. Oil and gas enrichment is controlled by multiple factors such as hydrocarbon supply mode, window, type of trap and reservoir, and there are various types of oil and gas reservoirs. The hydrocarbon supply window controls the formation of hydrocarbon accumulation, the type of trap determines the type of oil and gas reservoir, and the dominant reservoirs formed by fault fracture-supergenic karst and fracture-burial karst generated by multi-stage karstification control the enrichment and high yield. The comprehensive evaluation of the accumulation conditions shows that the slope area and the trough area of the Nanpu No. 1 and No. 2 structural belts as well as the inner Cambrian buried hills of the Nanpu No. 2 and Nanpu No. 3 structural belts are important directions for the next exploration. Through the integrated application of geological research and exploration technology, several favorable[JP] exploration targets have been classified and evaluated. Overall breakthroughs have been made in the exploration of carbonate buried hills in the Nanpu Sag, and good exploration results have been achieved.

Abstract Background Inflammation contributes to the poor prognosis of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Intermittent fasting (IF) has been shown to be protective against inflammation in multiple pathogenic processes. In the present study, we aimed to investigated the beneficial effects of IF in attenuating neuroinflammation and neurological deficits in a mouse model of ICH and to investigate the underlying mechanism. Methods ICH was modeled by intrastriatal injection of autologous blood and IF was modeled by every-other-day feeding in male control mice (C57BL/6), mice with and microglia specific knockout Sirt3f/f;Cx3cr1-Cre (Sirt3 cKO), and Sirt3f/f (wild-type) mice. Brain tissues and arterial blood were harvested at 1, 3, 7 and 28 days after ICH for immunohistochemistry analysis of Iba-1, DARPP-32 and HO-1, morphological analysis by HE staining and inflammatory factor release tests by ELISA. Neurological functions were approached by corner test and cylinder test. Fluorescent double-labeled staining of Iba-1 with CD16, Arg1 or Sirt3 was used to provide direct image of co-expression of these molecules in microglia. TUNEL, cleaved caspase-3 and Nissl staining was performed to evaluate cellular injuries. Results IF alleviated neurological deficits in both acute and chronic phases after ICH. Morphologically, IF enhanced hematoma clearance, reduced brain edema in acute phase and attenuated striatum atrophy in chronic phase. In addition, IF decreased the numbers of TUNEL+ cells and increased Nissl+ neuron number at day 1, 3 and 7 after ICH. IF suppressed CD16+Iba-1+ microglia activation at day 3 after ICH and reduced inflammatory releases, such as IL-1β and TNF-α. The above effects of IF were attenuated by microglia Sirt3 deletion partly because of an inhibition of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway. Interestingly, IF increased Iba-1+ microglia number at day 7 which mainly expressed Arg1 while decreased the proinflammatory factor levels. In mice with microglia-specific Sirt3 deletion, the effects of IF on Iba-1+ microglia activation and anti-inflammatory factor expressions were attenuated when compared with wild-type Sirt3f/f mice. Conclusions IF protects against ICH by suppressing the inflammatory responses via the Sirt3/Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.

In order to change the energy supply structure of traditional thermal power generation with excessive carbon emissions, more and more offshore wind turbines are being installed and put into operation worldwide. However, the dynamic monitoring of offshore wind turbines is still an emerging problem to be solved at a global scale. This paper proposes an effective approach for dynamic detection of offshore wind turbines by machine learning from spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) Sentinel-1 satellite data. First, the radar images are preprocessed to reduce the speckle noise and ocean wave clutter. Specifically, the time series radar data are cumulatively averaged according to the monthly interval to eliminate the influence of moving temporary objects such as ships; then, the speckle noise is suppressed using refined lee filter; the imagery affected by ocean wave clutters are also mitigated by using a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) technique. Next, representative data are carefully selected as the labeled training data set; and the random forest (RF) model is trained on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform. Validation demonstrates an overall accuracy of 99.99%, a producer accuracy of 100%, and an user accuracy of 94.12%. Then, mathematical morphology-based time series spatial data differentiation is proposed for monitoring the change of wind turbine. Finally, the dynamic change of the offshore wind farms in the Yellow Sea of China and the North Sea of Europe are monitored by using the proposed approach from 2015 to 2021. Cross-comparisons with ground truth data show an accuracy of 93.67% for dynamic detection of offshore wind turbines. From a large number of experimental results, it is shown that the proposed approach has the advantages of large scale monitoring and high precision, and can be used for global dynamic detection of offshore wind turbines.

In recent years, the number of electronic devices and users has increased sharply with the rapid development and progress of electronic information technology. The motivation of this paper is to optimize the organization’s resource allocation strategy in the Internet of Things (IoT) environment. The optimal path planning and information processing efficiency are improved through Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology and migration optimization algorithm. The research method is migration optimization algorithm and UAV dynamic network. The information processing capability of traditional wireless communication systems has gradually been unable to meet the actual information processing needs. Therefore, a static network migration algorithm is constructed based on multiple-user multilateral edge computing servers. It migrates each user’s information processing task to the neighboring edge confidence processing server and uses the information processing server to perform auxiliary calculations. The simulation model adds a utility function that simulates energy consumption, delay weighting, and maximum extreme value, combined with the allocation strategy of optimizing each user’s information processing task to achieve the optimization goal. The static network migration algorithm established in this simulation has better results than other benchmark algorithms. Both scenario 1 and scenario 2 in the simulation show very close performance to the optimal solution. Meanwhile, a migration algorithm that can provide wireless charging for UAVs is built by a dynamic edge computing model based on the time associated with the UAV base station and multiple end users. Combined with completing the information processing tasks in each time slot, the energy arrival is also non-directional. The dynamic network migration algorithm can optimize the number of tasks absorbed by the end-user based on the current online status of the system without knowing the global information. The optimized target equation is related to the queue stability, and the parameter V has a linear relationship with the queue backlog length. Here, the problem of computing migration is studied in Mobile Edge Computing (MEC). The results show that the utility function of the weighted sum has an approximately linear relationship with the weights. As the value of the utility function increases, so does the weight function. The optimal data throughput of the proposed model is 70,000 bits, while the optimal data throughput of the state-of-the-art model is 68,000 bits. Therefore, the data transmission performance of the model presented here is better than that of other models. MEC can be significantly improved the efficiency of organizational resource allocation. Combining UAV and wireless charging technology, the computing and communication resource allocation issues of the UAV’s edge computing system are comprehensively discussed to improve the performance and efficiency of the network.

This study aimed to explore the relationship between caregiver burden and anticipatory grief among caregivers of elderly cancer patients, and to examine the chain mediation effects of family functioning and resilience. A total of 624 valid questionnaires were collected. The Structural Equation Model was established to test the mediating effects of family functioning and resilience. Results showed that caregiver burden has a direct positive effect on anticipatory grief, both family functioning and resilience have negative effects on caregiver burden and anticipatory grief, and that resilience moderates the mediating effect of family functioning. Our findings suggest that reducing the caregiver burden among caregivers of elderly cancer patients, improving family functioning, and enhancing resilience have important effects in alleviating the anticipatory grief of caregivers. Our findings provide some references for further research. Medical staff should better understand the grief experience of caregivers and implement interventions to enable caregivers to better cope with anticipatory grief and psychological stress, so as to promote the quality of care for elderly cancer patients.

Using electron irradiation with energy of 160 keV and 1 MeV, it is found that the irradiation induced loss of “Capsule” type polarization maintaining silica optical fiber is significantly more serious than that of “Panda” type polarization maintaining silica optical fiber. With the help of loss spectra, FTIR and XPS analysis methods, the difference mechanism of irradiation resistance between the two kinds of optical fiber is discussed from the perspective of defects and preparation technology.

Abstract Background Several factors are associated with the incidence of burnout, including alexithymia, social support, and depression. The relative importance of these three key parameters as mediators of burnout, however, is not well understood. In addition, there have been few studies to date specifically examining the association between alexithymia and burnout among nurses in China. Purpose To evaluate the relationship of burnout with alexithymia, social support, and depression across emergency department nurses in China. Methods This descriptive, cross-sectional survey was conducted using a convenience sampling methodology to survey nurses responsible for direct emergency care (n = 413) from 18 tertiary hospitals in Western, Eastern, Northern, and Southern China between May 2020 and June 2020. A structural equation modeling approach was then used to assess a hypothetical model wherein alexithymia both directly and indirectly affects burnout among emergency nurses via impacting the incidence of depression and perceived social support. Abstract Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) represents one of the major malignant cancers in the world. It has been demonstrated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) can cause great influences on various human cancers. Though MCF.2 cell line derived transforming sequence like antisense RNA 1 (MCF2L-AS1) and its carcinogenic effect in CRC has been elucidated by several previous researches, the underlying mechanism remains unknown. Aim We aimed at exploring the function and regulatory mechanism of MCF2L-AS1 in CRC. Methods MCF2L-AS1 expression in CRC cells was tested via RT-qPCR assay. The effects of MCF2L-AS1 on the biological properties of CRC cells were testified through functional experiments. The molecular mechanism of MCF2L-AS1 was verified through mechanism experiments. Results MCF2L-AS1 was highly expressed in CRC cells, and it could enhance the proliferation, migration, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process of CRC cells. MiR-105-5p was sponged by MCF2L-AS1 in CRC cells and Ras-related protein Rab-22A (RAB22A) was verified to be the downstream target of miR-105-5p. It was verified through rescue assays that RAB22A overexpression or miR-105-5p silencing could reverse the repressive impact of MCF2L-AS1 silencing on CRC progression. Conclusion MCF2L-AS1 accelerated the malignant development of CRC cells by targeting the miR-105-5p/RAB22A axis.

Objectives: To examine the relationship between cardiovascular disease risk factors and frailty in a sample of older Chinese adults. Methods: A total of 458 community-dwelling older adults (≥65 years) in Lanzhou, Gansu Province of China participated in a cross-sectional survey. Their status was evaluated in terms of frailty phenotype (unintentional weight loss, exhaustion, low activity levels, slowness and weakness). Participants were categorized as not frail, prefrail or frail. Cardiovascular disease risk factors that were assessed included: blood pressure, body mass index, waist circumference, blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoproteins and high-density lipoproteins. Results: Individuals with obesity had an increased risk of prefrailty (OR: 2.26; 95% CI: 1.05, 4.84). Hypertension was inversely associated with frailty among the participants (OR: 0.31; 95% CI: 0.11, 0.87) after adjusting for covariates. Conclusions: The findings suggest that much more attention should be paid to weight control of the elderly in the community for preventing them from transition to prefrailty or frailty. Active prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases among the community-dwelling elder are still of great importance.

Recently, few-shot learning has attracted significant attention in the field of video action recognition, owing to its data-efficient learning paradigm. Despite the encouraging progress, identifying ways to further improve the few-shot learning performance by exploring additional or auxiliary information for video action recognition remains an ongoing challenge. To address this problem, in this paper we make the first attempt to propose a relational action bank with semantic–visual attention for few-shot action recognition. Specifically, we introduce a relational action bank as the auxiliary library to assist the network in understanding the actions in novel classes. Meanwhile, the semantic–visual attention is devised to adaptively capture the connections to the foregone actions via both semantic correlation and visual similarity. We extensively evaluate our approach via two backbone models (ResNet-50 and C3D) on HMDB and Kinetics datasets, and demonstrate that the proposed model can obtain significantly better performance compared against state-of-the-art methods. Notably, our results demonstrate an average improvement of about 6.2% when compared to the second-best method on the Kinetics dataset.

BackgroundThe infertility prevalence of married couples in China is increasing gradually. The dyadic coping level and its influencing factors of infertile women in China are poorly reported. The relationship between dyadic coping and the family cohesion and adaptability in infertile women was investigated.MethodsA total of 482 infertile women in the reproductive clinics of three affiliated hospitals of the Lanzhou University were selected by the convenience sampling method. The self-made general information questionnaire, family adaptability and cohesion evaluation scale, and dyadic coping questionnaire were used in this study.ResultsThe average age of infertile women was 31.73 ± 4.57 years, the duration of infertility was 28.66 ± 27.99 months, the total score of dyadic coping was 132.66 ± 25.49, the total score of family cohesion and adaptability was 101.48 ± 20.96. A significant positive correlation between dyadic coping and family cohesion and adaptability was observed (r = 0.74, p < 0.01). The multiple linear regression analysis showed that religious belief, number of miscarriages, relationship between family members, family intimacy, and adaptability were the influencing factors of dyadic coping level in the family of infertile women (R2 = 0.566, p < 0.01).ConclusionsThe dyadic coping level of infertile women is in the medium level, which is significantly positively correlated with family intimacy and adaptability. In clinical nursing, nurses try to improve the family relationship of patients to increase the level of dyadic coping of infertile women.

Objectives: In ensuring public welfare with primary medical and health services, the primary medical staff faces new tasks. Increasing workload, and therefore degrees of stress and burnout, can influence job satisfaction and lead to presenteeism, which is defined as the appearance to be on the job but not actually working. The purpose of this study is to investigate the current working situation and the relationship between presenteeism and mindfulness of primary medical staff and determine the mediating effect of self-efficacy on this relationship. Method: A cross-sectional survey was performed with 580 primary medical staff from 9 hospitals in Shaanxi province, northwest China. Presenteeism, mindfulness, and self-efficacy were measured by using a general information questionnaire, the Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Stanford Presenteeism Scale. Mediating effect was analyzed by a series of hierarchical multiple regressions. Results: A high level of presenteeism was found among 47.4% of the study participants. Presenteeism was negatively correlated with mindfulness(r = −0.409, P 0.05), the association was insignificant between presenteeism and mindfulness. Conclusion: The results identified the effect of mindfulness on presenteeism of primary medical staff is realized through self-efficacy,which also suggested to enhance self-efficacy on center location when developing management strategies for mental health education or training among primary medical staff. BACKGROUND: Removable dentures are subject to plaque and/or staining problems. Denture hygiene habits and risk factors differ among countries and regions. The aims of this study were to assess hygiene habits and denture plaque and staining risk factors in Chinese removable denture wearers aged >40 years in Xi'an through multiple logistic regression analysis (MLRA). METHODS: Questionnaires were administered to 222 patients whose removable dentures were examined clinically to assess wear status and levels of plaque and staining. Univariate analyses were performed to identify potential risk factors for denture plaque/staining. MLRA was performed to identify significant risk factors. RESULTS: Brushing (77.93%) was the most prevalent cleaning method in the present study. Only 16.4% of patients regularly used commercial cleansers. Most (81.08%) patients removed their dentures overnight. Vital pulp preservation in the treatment of deep caries is challenging due to bacterial infection. The objectives of this study were to synthesize a novel, light-cured composite material containing bioactive calcium-silicate (Portland cement, PC) and the antimicrobial quaternary ammonium salt monomer 2-methacryloxylethyl dodecyl methyl ammonium bromide (MAE-DB) and to evaluate its effects on Streptococcus mutans growth in vitro.The experimental material was prepared from a 2 : 1 ratio of PC mixed with a resin of 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate, bisphenol glycerolate dimethacrylate, and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (4 : 3 : 1) containing 5 wt% MAE-DB. Cured resin containing 5% MAE-DB without PC served as the positive control material, and resin without MAE-DB or PC served as the negative control material. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and calcium hydroxide (Dycal) served as commercial controls. S. mutans biofilm formation on material surfaces and growth in the culture medium were tested according to colony-forming units (CFUs) and metabolic activity after 24 h incubation over freshly prepared samples or samples aged in water for 6 months. Biofilm formation was also assessed by Live/Dead staining and scanning electron microscopy.S. mutans biofilm formation on the experimental material was significantly inhibited, with CFU counts, metabolic activity, viability staining, and morphology similar to those of biofilms on the positive control material. None of the materials affected bacterial growth in solution. Contact-inhibition of biofilm formation was retained by the aged experimental material. Significant biofilm formation was observed on MTA and Dycal.The synthesized material containing HEMA-BisGMA-TEGDMA resin with MAE-DB as the antimicrobial agent and PC to support mineralized tissue formation inhibited S. mutans biofilm formation even after aging in water for 6 months, but had no inhibitory effect on bacteria in solution. Therefore, this material shows promise as a pulp capping material for vital pulp preservation in the treatment of deep caries.
