Performance comparison and mechanism of electron irradiation 'Capsule' type and 'Panda' type polarization maintaining silica optical fiber

Abstract

Using electron irradiation with energy of 160 keV and 1 MeV, it is found that the irradiation induced loss of “Capsule” type polarization maintaining silica optical fiber is significantly more serious than that of “Panda” type polarization maintaining silica optical fiber. With the help of loss spectra, FTIR and XPS analysis methods, the difference mechanism of irradiation resistance between the two kinds of optical fiber is discussed from the perspective of defects and preparation technology.
