SuperKEKB is an electron–positron asymmetric-energy double-ring collider, which was built in Japan. It has been operated to explore new phenomena in B-meson decays. Hence, extremely higher luminosity is required. A collision scheme of low emittance with a large Piwinski angle called a “nano-beam scheme” has been adopted to achieve higher luminosity by squeezing the vertical beta function at the interaction point to be smaller than the bunch length. A “crab waist collision scheme” proposed by P. Raimondi et al. has also been adopted to improve the luminosity performance. The article presents an overview of the operation of the nano-beam and crab waist collision schemes at SuperKEKB.

Summary Background & aims The associations between dietary magnesium intake and stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD) incidences are inconsistent and not established in Asian. We aimed to determine the association between dietary magnesium intake and the risk of stroke and CHD in a Japanese population. Subjects/Methods We studied 85,293 Japanese subjects by questionnaire at baseline (age 45–74 years, without cardiovascular disease or cancer in 1995 and 1998 for Cohorts I and II, respectively). The participants were followed until the end of 2009 and 2010 in Cohorts I and II, respectively. Dietary magnesium intake was estimated from a self-administered 138-item food-frequency questionnaire. Results After 1,305,738 person-years of follow-up, 4110 strokes and 1283 cases of CHD were documented. The multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs, 95% confidence intervals, 95%CIs) of CHD for the fourth and fifth quintiles of dietary magnesium intake were 0.70 (0.50–0.99) and 0.66 (0.44–0.97) in men (P for trend = 0.036), respectively, and third quintile of dietary magnesium intake was 0.61 (0.39–0.96) in women (P for trend = 0.241), compared with the lowest quintile in men and women. We observed no decreased risks of incident stroke in men or women with higher dietary magnesium intakes. Conclusions Higher dietary magnesium intake was associated with a reduced risk of CHD in Japanese men.

- Abstract
In an emulsion-counter hybrid experiment performed at J-PARC, a Ξ^{-} absorption event was observed which decayed into twin single-Λ hypernuclei. Kinematic calculations enabled a unique identification of the reaction process as Ξ^{-}+^{14}N→_{Λ}^{10}Be+_{Λ}^{5}He. For the binding energy of the Ξ^{-} hyperon in the Ξ^{-}-^{14}N system a value of 1.27±0.21 MeV was deduced. The energy level of Ξ^{-} is likely a nuclear 1p state which indicates a weak ΞN-ΛΛ coupling.

A finding between dietary pattern and cancer may provide visions beyond the assessment of individual foods or nutrients. We examined the influence of dietary pattern with colorectal cancer (CRC) among a Japanese population.A total of 93,062 subjects (43,591 men, 49,471 women) who participated in the Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study were followed from 1995-1998 to the end of 2012, during which 2482 cases of CRC (1514 men, 968 women) were newly identified. Dietary data was obtained from a validated food-frequency questionnaire between 1995 and 1998.Three dietary pattern was derived from principal components factor: prudent, westernized, and traditional pattern. After controlled for potential confounders, the prudent pattern showed a decreased association of CRC risk in men (HR for highest quintile vs lowest: 0.85; 95% CI: 0.72-1.00; P trend0.05), slightly more strongly with distal colon cancer (P trend0.05); but an increased risk of rectal cancer in women (P trend0.05). The westernized pattern showed a significant positive linear trend for colon (P trend0.05) and distal cancer (P trend0.05) in women. There was no apparent association of traditional Japanese dietary pattern on the overall or any specific sites risk of CRC.A prudent dietary pattern showed an inverse association with CRC risk in men, and a westernized pattern was related with a higher risk of colon and distal cancer in women.

Aims Coping strategies may be significantly associated with health outcomes. This is the first study to investigate the association between baseline coping strategies and cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence and mortality in a general population cohort. Methods and results The Japan Public Health Center-based prospective Study asked questions on coping in its third follow-up survey (2000–04). Analyses on CVD incidence and mortality included 57 017 subjects aged 50–79 without a history of CVD and who provided complete answers on approach- and avoidance-oriented coping behaviours and strategies. Cox regression models, adjusted for confounders, were used to determine hazard ratios (HRs) according to coping style. Mean follow-up time was 7.9 years for incidence and 8.0 years for mortality. The premorbid use of an approach-oriented coping strategy was inversely associated with incidence of stroke (HR = 0.85; 95% CI, 0.73–1.00) and CVD mortality (HR = 0.74; 95% CI, 0.55–0.99). Stroke subtype analyses revealed an inverse association between the approach-oriented coping strategy and incidence of ischaemic stroke (HR = 0.79; 95% CI, 0.64–0.98) and a positive association between the combined coping strategy and incidence of intra-parenchymal haemorrhage (HR = 2.03; 95% CI, 1.01–4.10). Utilizing an avoidance coping strategy was associated with increased mortality from ischaemic heart disease (IHD) only in hypertensive individuals (HR = 3.46; 95% CI, 1.07–11.18). The coping behaviours fantasizing and positive reappraisal were associated with increased risk of CVD incidence (HR = 1.24; 95% CI, 1.03–1.50) and reduced risk of IHD mortality (HR = 0.63; 95% CI, 0.40–0.99), respectively. Conclusion An approach-oriented coping strategy, i.e. proactively dealing with sources of stress, may be associated with significantly reduced stroke incidence and CVD mortality in a Japanese population-based cohort.

- Abstract
We report on the first observation of γ rays emitted from an sd-shell hypernucleus, _{Λ}^{19}F. The energy spacing between the ground state doublet, 1/2^{+} and 3/2^{+} states, of _{Λ}^{19}F is determined to be 315.5±0.4(stat)_{-0.5}^{+0.6}(syst) keV by measuring the γ-ray energy of the M1(3/2^{+}→1/2^{+}) transition. In addition, three γ-ray peaks are observed and assigned as E2(5/2^{+}→1/2^{+}), E1(1/2^{-}→1/2^{+}), and E1(1/2^{-}→3/2^{+}) transitions. The excitation energies of the 5/2^{+} and 1/2^{-} states are determined to be 895.2±0.3(stat)±0.5(syst) and 1265.6±1.2(stat)_{-0.5}^{+0.7}(syst) keV, respectively. It is found that the ground state doublet spacing is well described by theoretical models based on existing s- and p-shell hypernuclear data.

Background and aims Higher intake of fish or n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) has been associated with reduced risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). However, it is unclear whether increased blood levels of n-3 PUFAs are associated with reduced risk of CHD in the Japanese population. Methods The relationship between circulating levels of n-3 PUFAs (eicosapentaenoic acid + docosapentaenoic acid + docosahexaenoic acid) and risk of CHD was examined in a nested case-control study among participants in the Japan Public Health Center (JPHC)-based Study Cohort. Plasma n-3 PUFA phospholipid levels were measured at baseline by gas chromatography in 209 cases with CHD and 418 controls matched for sex, age, date of blood draw, time elapsed since last meal before blood collection, and study location. The CHD cases (n = 209) comprised 168 cases of myocardial infarction and 41 of sudden cardiac death, otherwise classified as 157 non-fatal and 52 fatal coronary events, respectively. Mean duration of follow-up was 13.5 years. Results Multivariate conditional logistic analysis showed no significant association between n-3 PUFAs and risk of total CHD. The odds ratio (OR) for the highest versus lowest quartiles of plasma n-3 PUFAs was 0.79 (95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 0.41–1.51, p for trend = 0.51). Subtype analysis of CHD revealed that the multivariate ORs for the highest versus lowest quartiles for n-3 PUFAs were 0.91 (95% CI: 0.43–1.89, p for trend = 0.90) for myocardial infarction, 0.08 (95% CI: 0.01–0.88, p for trend = 0.04) for sudden cardiac death, 0.89 (95% CI: 0.42–1.89, p for trend = 0.97) for nonfatal coronary events, and 0.12 (95% CI: 0.02–0.75, p for trend = 0.03) for fatal coronary events. Conclusions Plasma n-3 PUFA levels were not associated with risk of total CHD but were inversely associated with risks of sudden cardiac death and fatal coronary events among middle-aged Japanese individuals.

Seafood/fish intake has been regarded as a protective factor for coronary heart disease (CHD), while smoking is a strong risk factor. To examine whether associations between smoking and risk of CHD are modified by seafood/fish intake, we studied 72,012 Japanese men and women aged 45-74 years who completed 2 food frequency questionnaires, 5 years apart, during the period 1995-2009. After 878,163 person-years of follow-up, 584 incident cases of CHD (101 fatal and 483 nonfatal), including 516 myocardial infarctions, were documented. There was a clear dose-response association between smoking and CHD risk among subjects with a low seafood/fish intake (

WOS: 000322848900009, A novel experiment, aiming at demonstrating the feasibility of hypernuclear spectroscopy with heavy ion beams, was conducted. Using the invariant mass method, the spectroscopy of hypernuclear products of Li-6 projectiles on a carbon target at 2 A GeV was performed. Signals of the Lambda-hyperon and H-3(Lambda) and H-4(Lambda) hypernuclei were observed for final states of p + pi(-), He-3 + pi(-) and He-4 + pi(-), respectively, with significance values of 6.7, 4.7 and 4.9 sigma. By analyzing the proper decay time from secondary vertex distribution with the unbinned maximum likelihood fitting method, their lifetime values were deduced to be 262(-43)(+56) +/- 45 ps for Lambda, 183(-32)(+42) +/- 37 ps for H-3(Lambda), and 140(-33)(+48) +/- 35 ps for H-4(Lambda). The thermodynamic treatment, which is based on the difference of heat of formation among three extreme cases for the substitution of a quaternary element X, was applied to predict the substitution behavior of quaternary elements in Ni3(Si,Ti). The heat of formation of a hypothetical ternary compound Ni6SiTi in which X elements substitute for relevant sites was calculated by using a geometric model based on an extended Miedema’s theory. According to the prediction, Cr and W (6), Mn and Re (7), Fe and Os (8), Co and Ir (9), Pt (10), and Cu and Au (11) substitute for Ni atoms. Ge (14) substitutes for Si atoms. Zr and Hf (4), V, Nb, and Ta (5), Mo (6), and Al (13) substitute for Ti atoms. Ga (13) substitutes for Si or Ti atom. The prediction for Ta is consistent with the reported experimental result. Also, the solubility limits of quaternary elements for the Ti site in Ni3(Si,Ti) are ranked in the sequence of Ta > Nb > V > Hf > Zr, and correlated with the size misfit parameter between Ti and the quaternary element X, and the difference in heats of formation between Ni6SiTi and Ni6SiX.

The atom substitution preference of ternary additions in Ni3M-type GCP (geometrically close-packed) compounds with D0a structure was determined from the direction of single-phase region of the GCP phase on the reported ternary phase diagrams. In Ni3Nb, Co and Cu preferred the substitution for Ni-site, Hf, Ta, Ti, V and W the substitution for Nb-site, and Fe the substitution for both sites. In Ni3Ta, Co, Cu, Fe, Ir, Mn and Re preferred the substitution for Ni-site, Mo and Nb the substitution for Ta-site, and Al and Cr the substitution for both sites. In Ni3Mo, Pd and W preferred the substitution for Ni-site, and Al, Nb, Ta, Ti and Zr the substitution for Mo-site. The thermodynamic model, which was based on the change in heat of formation of the host compound by a small addition of ternary solute, was applied to predict the atom substitution preference of ternary additions. The heat of compound formation used in the thermodynamic calculation was derived from Miedema’s formula. Good agreement was obtained between the thermodynamic model and the result of the literature search. For Ni3Mo, with a small negative heat of formation, a weak binding force between the constituent elements is often enhanced by the addition of the ternary elements that substitute for Mo-site.

The site preference of ternary additions in Ni 3 Nb (D0 a ) was determined from the direction of solubility lobes of the GCP phases which were available from the reported ternary phase diagrams and constructed in the present work. It was shown that Cr, Co and Cu preferred the substitution for Ni-site, Ti, V, Hf, Ta and W the substitution for Nb-site, and Fe the substitution for both sites. The thermodynamic model, which was based on the change in total bonding energy of the host compound by a small addition of ternary solute, was applied to predict the site preference of ternary additions. The bond energy of each nearest neighbor pair used in the thermodynamic calculation was derived from the heat of compound formation by Miedema's formula. The agreement between the thermodynamic model and the experimental result was excellent. From both experimental and theoretical results, both the transition and B-subgroup elements have two possibilities, i.e., the case of substitution for Ni-site or the case of substitution for Nb-site, depending on the relative value of two interaction energies.

For the purpose of a nationwide surveillance of the antimicrobial susceptibility of bacterial respiratory pathogens in patients in Japan, the Japanese Society of Chemotherapy conducted their second year survey, during the period from January to August, 2007. A total of 1178 strains were collected from clinical specimens obtained from adult patients with well-diagnosed respiratory tract infections. Susceptibility testing was evaluable for 1108 strains (226 Staphylococcus aureus, 257 Streptococcus pneumoniae, 6 Streptococcus pyogenes, 206 Haemophilus influenzae, 120 Moraxella catarrhalis, 122 Klebsiella pneumoniae, and 171 Pseudomonas aeruginosa). A total of 44 antibacterial agents, including 26 beta-lactams (four penicillins, three penicillins in combination with beta-lactamase inhibitors, four oral cephems, eight parenteral cephems, one monobactam, five carbapenems, and one penem), three aminoglycosides, four macrolides (including ketolide), one lincosamide, one tetracycline, two glycopeptides, six fluoroquinolones, and one oxazolidinone were used for the study. Analysis was conducted at the central reference laboratory according to the method recommended by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). The incidence of methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was high, at 59.7%, and the incidences of penicillin-intermediateresistant and -resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (PISP and PRSP) were 30.4% and 5.1%, respectively. Among Haemophilus influenzae strains, 19.9% of them were found to be beta-lactamase-non-producing ampicillin (ABPC)-intermediately-resistant (BLNAI), 29.1% to be beta-lactamasenon-producing ABPC-resistant (BLNAR), and 6.7% to be beta-lactamase-producing ABPC-resistant (BLPAR) strains. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae was not isolated. Two isolates (1.2%) of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were found to be metallo-beta-lactamase-producing strains, including one (0.6%) suspected multidrug-resistant strain showing resistance to imipenem, amikacin, and ciprofloxacin. These data will be a useful reference for future periodic surveillance studies and for investigations to control resistant infections as well. Continued surveillance is required to prevent the further spread of these antimicrobial resistances.

We examined the association between green tea consumption and mortality due to all causes, cancer, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory disease, injuries, and other causes of death in a large-scale population-based cohort study in Japan. We studied 90,914 Japanese (aged between 40 and 69 years) recruited between 1990 and 1994. After 18.7 years of follow-up, 12,874 deaths were reported. The association between green tea consumption and risk of all causes and major causes of mortality was assessed using the Cox proportional hazards regression model with adjustment for potential confounders.Hazard ratios for all-cause mortality among men who consumed green tea compared with those who drank less than 1 cup/day were 0.96 (0.89-1.03) for 1-2 cups/day, 0.88 (0.82-0.95) for 3-4 cups/day, and 0.87 (0.81-0.94) for more than 5 cups/day (P for trend.001). Corresponding hazard ratios for women were 0.90 (0.81-1.00), 0.87 (0.79-0.96), and 0.83 (0.75-0.91; P for trend.001). Green tea was inversely associated with mortality from heart disease in both men and women and mortality from cerebrovascular disease and respiratory disease in men. No association was found between green tea and total cancer mortality. This prospective study suggests that the consumption of green tea may reduce the risk of all-cause mortality and the three leading causes of death in Japan.

Multilayered films consisting of amorphous carbon (a-C) and carbon nitride (a-CN) have been prepared by shielded arc ion plating (SAIP). Hardness and wear resistance of the multilayered films were measured with a nanoindenter interfaced with an atomic force microscope (AFM). Friction coefficients of the multilayered films were determined as well against a SUJ2 (SAE 52100) bearing ball using a ball-on-disc tribo-tester. The a-CN films deposited on a hard a-C film prepared at V b =0 or −300 V were harder than the single a-CN films directly deposited on the silicon substrate. The hardness of these layered samples was 4 GPa greater than that of the single layers. The hardness of a-C (60 nm)/a-CN (60 nm, V b =−300 V)/a-C (120 nm) triple layer film was 5 GPa higher than that of the single layered a-C. The wear resistance of the all layers was better than sapphire, although sapphire is harder than the single and double layers. The friction coefficients of the triple layers were low and stable. The triple layer showed the lowest friction coefficient of about 0.1.

Field-emission electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was applied to observe coplanar microstructures composed of two different types of organosilane self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). These binary microstructures were prepared on silicon substrates covered with native oxide by a lithographic technique. Four types of organosilane precursors, they are n-octadecyltrimethoxysilane (ODS), heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetrahydro-decyl-1-trimethoxysilane (a type of fluoroalkylsilane, FAS), n-(6-aminohexyl)aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (AHAPS), and 4-(chloromethyl)phenyltrimethoxysilane (CMPhS), were used in this study. Micropatterns composed of the SAMs were clearly imaged by FE-SEM at low acceleration voltages, around 0.6 kV. The brightness order of the SAMs in FE-SEM was ODS > AHAPS > CMPhS > FAS. Through ab initio molecular orbital calculations, the origin of this FE-SEM contrast was ascribed to the electron affinity between the SAMs, which governed the FE-SEM image contrast. It has been successfully demonstrated that FE-SEM ...

The arc discharge studied in this work was sustained by titanium vapor evaporated by an electron beam in nitrogen atmosphere. Optical emission spectroscopy and Langmuir probe diagnostics were carried out to study the excitation of titanium and nitrogen. It was found that with increasing arc current, Ti and nitrogen gas exhibited an opposite tendency of excitation. When arc current increased from 20 to 60 A, Ti was highly excited to Ti+, while the excitation of nitrogen was lowered; this is completely different from that for a conventional cathodic arc, where both Ti and N2 are highly ionized. By Langmuir probe diagnostics, the electron energy distribution followed a two-Maxwellian distribution at an arc current of 60 A; the electron temperatures were 0.98 and 10.1 eV, and the corresponding electron densities were 2.7×1011 and 3.9×109 cm3, respectively. This result provided a theoretical explanation for the difference of excitation between titanium and nitrogen in this arc.

Purpose: To evaluate the MR appearance of bone marrow during and after multiple fractionated and single-dose irradiation using SE sequences, with histopathological correlation. Material and Methods: the left hind limbs of Wistar rats were irradiated with doses of either 2 GyX10 fractions or 20 Gy as a single dose. MR images of the femora were taken on days 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180. T1-, proton-density- and T2-weighted images were obtained with SE sequences. the rats were sacrificed on days 3, 12, 40 and 180 for histological study. Results: No significant change in the T1 relaxation time was observed in the fractionated group during the first 15 days after irradiation. T2 did not change during the initial 7 days. There were significant differences in T1 and T2 between nonirradiated and fractionated, and between fractionated and single-dose irradiated marrows ( p Conclusion: the T1 and T2 relaxation times of bone marrow receiving multiple fractionated irradiation did not change significantly on SE sequences during the early phase. However, dilatation of sinusoids, hemorrhage, decrease in cellularity, and increase in fat content were observed. Single-dose irradiation resulted in marked and early changes in T1 and T2 of the bone marrow.

Cerium nitride films were deposited by ion plating in an electron-beam sustained Ce arc discharge in a nitrogen atmosphere. The crystal structure was strongly affected by the arc discharge current and the substrate temperature. The lattice spacing of CeN film is 0.5020 nm with a density of 7.82 g cm−3. This film showed a paramagnetic property at 10 K in a magnetic field of 20 kOe. The Knoop hardness for CeN film is over 1600. The electrical resistivity was 4.6 × 10−4 Ωcm with p-type conductivity. The carrier concentration of the CeN film increased after exposure to the air, which suggested that the valence of Ce in CeN is probably 4+.

The reaction sites operative for the CO oxidation and the translational temperature of desorbing product CO 2 were studied on Pt(112)=(s)3(111) × (001) and Pt(113)=(s)2(111) × (001) by means of angle-resolved thermal desorption combined with a cross-correlation time of flight technique. Heating of the co-adlayer of CO and oxygen yields five CO 2 formation peaks in the range of 160–420 K. The CO 2 desorption in each peak is sharply collimated closely along either the (111) terrace or the (001) step normal. The desorption from the (111) terrace is enhanced with increasing CO coverage, whereas the contribution from the (001) step is increased at high oxygen coverage. Annealing of the oxygen adlayer suppresses the contribution from the (001) step. Passivation of this step site is proposed to be due to the absorption of oxygen into the subsurface layer. No significant difference is found in the translational temperature of desorbing CO 2 between the terrace and step sites.

The objective of this study was to investigate ethnic differences in the glyoxylate reductase/hydroxypyruvate reductase (GRHPR) gene in patients with primary hyperoxaluria type 2 (PH2). GRHPR was genotyped in Japanese patients with PH2 and all GRHPR mutations described to date were reviewed in terms of geographic and ethnic association. We identified a novel mutation, a two-nucleotide deletion (c.248_249delTG) in exon 3 creating a premature 'stop' at codon 91. Also, we found that the c.864_865delTG mutation was associated with the rs35891798 single-nucleotide polymorphism. The allelic frequencies of the c.103delG, c.494GA, c.403_404+2 delAAGT, and c.864_865delTG mutations in PH2 patients were 37.8%, 15.6%, 10.0%, and 10.0%, respectively. All patients with the c.103delG mutation were Caucasian. Patients with the c.494GA mutation and 78% (7/9) of those with the c.403_404+2 delAAGT mutation were from the Indian subcontinent, whereas those with the c.864_865delTG mutation were Chinese or Japanese. Molecular analysis of GRHPR of four Japanese PH2 patients identified a novel mutation (c.248_249delTG in exon 3). Caucasians with PH2 should be screened for the c.103delG mutation; patients from the Indian subcontinent for c.494GA; and patients of East Asian origin (particularly) for c.864_865delTG. The prevalence of the latter mutation in PH2 patients from East Asia was 75.0%.

The angular and velocity distributions of desorbing product CO2 were studied in the CO oxidation on a stepped Pt(112)=(s)3(111)×(001) surface by means of angle-resolved thermal desorption combined with a cross-correlation time-of-flight technique. The desorption occurs mainly along the terrace normal, indicating predominant CO2 formation on the terrace. The translational temperature of this CO2 is maximized to 1330 K around the terrace normal. On the other hand, the angular distribution becomes asymmetric at small CO coverages when the desorption angle is varied perpendicularly to the step edges. This indicates a new component collimated at the desorption angle of −25°. It is assigned to the desorption from step sites. The maximum translational temperature of this CO2 is 1190 K. The desorption of CO and oxygen shows a simple cosine distribution, providing no structural information.

The Θ(+) pentaquark baryon was searched for via the π(-)p→K(-)X reaction with a missing mass resolution of 1.4 MeV/c(2) (FWHM) at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). π(-) meson beams were incident on the liquid hydrogen target with a beam momentum of 1.92 GeV/c. No peak structure corresponding to the Θ(+) mass was observed. The upper limit of the production cross section averaged over the scattering angle of 2° to 15° in the laboratory frame is obtained to be 0.26 μb/sr in the mass region of 1.51-1.55 GeV/c(2). The upper limit of the Θ(+) decay width is obtained to be 0.72 and 3.1 MeV for J(Θ)(P)=1/2(+) and J(Θ)(P)=1/2(-), respectively, using the effective Lagrangian approach.

The site preference of ternary additions in GCP (geometrically close-packed) Ni3X-type compounds with D0a structure was determined from the direction of the single-phase region of the D0a phase in the reported ternary phase diagrams. The thermodynamic model based on the Bragg-Williams approximation, which is based on the change in heat of formation of the host compound by a small addition of ternary solute, was applied to predict the site preference of ternary additions. The heat of formation used in the thermodynamic calculation was derived from Miedema’s formula. Good agreement was obtained between the thermodynamic model and the result of the literature search.

Background Work ability is the ability of a worker to perform his job. The authors hypothesized that supervisor support influences the work ability of workers working in an information technology company located in Tokyo. Aims To assess whether or not support from supervisors influences work ability. Methods Two surveys using the Brief Job Scale Questionnaire and the Work Ability Index (WAI) were conducted, one in October 2007 and the other in October 2008 on the same cohort. Two cross-sectional analyses and a 1-year longitudinal analysis were conducted using multiple regression analysis. In addition, the relationships between supervisor support and each dimension of WAI were analysed separately. Results The number of participants was 1157 males. Significant relationships were observed between supervisor support and WAI scores in both survey periods after adjusting for age, job demand, job control, work group size, job rank and job type. The 2007 Supervisor support was a significant predictor of 2008 WAI that raised the possibility that supervisor support does influence WAI scores. From the analysis of each dimension of WAI, a strong relationship between supervisor support and WAI was observed for the sections of the WAI that assessed work capacity but not for the sections that assessed the personal health status of respondents. Conclusions Supervisor support is an important predictor of work ability. Supervisor support is associated with the questions of the WAI that assess not only work demands but also person's resources of the work ability model.

This paper presents embedded DRAM device technology utilizing stacked MIM(metal-insulator-metal) capacitor. Targeted for high random-access performance as well as low-power data-streaming applications, original structure named "full metal DRAM" has been devised and implemented from 150nm generation. This features reduced parasitic resistance of DRAM cell and fully-compatible CMOS Trs. characteristics with that of leading-edge CMOS. In 90nm generation, ZrO 2 is introduced as capacitor dielectric material for cell size reduction. For the next generation of 55nm, high-k gate dielectric(HfSiON) will be introduced in CMOS platform, which can be effectively exploited for embedded DRAM scaling and performance improvement

In this paper, a novel topology of soft switching PWM high frequency AC power conversion conditioning and processing circuit without DC smoothing capacitor filter link from the voltage grid of utility frequency AC power supply source with 60 Hz-100 V or 60 Hz-200 V is proposed and introduced for innovative consumer induction heating (IH) boiler applications as a hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The operating principle of utility frequency AC-high frequency AC power frequency conversion circuit defined as high frequency cycloinverter is described, which can efficiently operate under a principle of zero voltage soft switching and regulate by means of positive and negative alternate asymmetrical PWM synchronized with the utility frequency single phase AC voltage. The dual mode control scheme based on high frequency PWM and commercial frequency AC voltage PDM for high frequency cycloinverter are discussed in order to extend its soft switching commutation operating range in spite of power regulation. This power frequency changer as high frequency cycloinverter is developed originally for the high frequency induction heating boiler in consumer and industrial fluid pipeline system. It is verified on the basis of experiment and simulation results in the steady state operation of the high frequency cycloinverter using IGBTs which is suitable for the business-use IH boiler using new electromagnetic induction heating dual packs fluid heater. Finally, the power regulation characteristics in addition to utility AC side line current harmonic components and power factor characteristics and power conversion efficiency characteristics of this high frequency cycloinverter are evaluated and discussed from an experimental point of view.

Patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) are known to be at risk of gastric cancer (GC), and the STK11 gene is a susceptibility gene for PJS. However, as no cases of PJS with GC in which a STK11 germline mutation has been identified have ever been reported and other susceptibility genes have also been suggested to be involved in PJS, the relation between STK11 germline mutations and GC in PJS is still unknown. In this study, we used sequencing analysis to investigate the STK11, CDH1, and TP53 loci for a germline mutation in two siblings with PJS with primary GC. A novel type of the STK11 germline mutation, c.890delG, encoding a truncated protein (p.Arg297fsX38) was identified, but no germline mutations of the CDH1 and TP53 genes were detected. No inactivation of the wild-type allele by somatic mutation or chromosomal deletion or hypermethylation at the 5'-CpG site of STK11 was detected in the GC. This is the first report of a STK11 germline mutation in a PJS patient with GC and should contribute to establishing correlations between the STK11 germline mutations and GC in PJS patients.

- Abstract
Ongoing research is reported aimed at preparing mesoporous silica coatings on various substrates for medical applications by a biomimetic approach (self-assembling of organic/inorganic sol-gel systems into ordered structures). Tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) was selected as the silica precursor, and amphiphilic triblock copolymers poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide), and the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC), as structure-directing agents. The mesochannels diameter could be adjusted by changing the directing agent, and a preferred alignment of the mesostructure was observed independently of the used substrate (glass, silicon, Ti or Ti6Al4V). Three different treatments (thermocalcination, photocalcination, and solvent extraction) have been also studied to remove the organic templates, of which photocalcination showed to be the most versatile. When soaked in a simulated body fluid, mesoporous silica coatings induced apatite formation after seven days.

We present an ultra-high-performance 0.13-/spl mu/m embedded DRAM technology, which improves transistor performance in both logic devices and DRAM cells. Simulation results indicate that the typical random access cycle of a 16-Mbit DRAM core exceeds 570 MHz. The full-metal DRAM structure having a newly developed TiN/HfO/sub 2//TiN/W capacitor minimizes the aspect ratio of the cylindrical capacitor electrode to reduce contact resistance in the logic area. Integration of the embedded DRAM with BSTSOI (Body-Slightly-Tied SOI) is also demonstrated, with which the logic performance can be further improved and the DRAM cell area is free from floating-body effects.

The multiroute travel-time data provision systems are typical examples of the application to multiple routes (all heading toward the center of an urban area) of the authors' travel-time data provision system, which furnishes drivers with predicted travel-time information based on the data actually measured with vehicle license number recognition devices (automatic vehicle identification or AVI units). The systems now operating in Osaka furnish travel-time information to drivers on roads before the individual branch points of three major routes (approx 11 km) all heading toward the center of the City from its southern part and of two major routes (approx 8 km) both heading toward the center of the City from its eastern part. On all of these routes, the number of vehicles moving into and out of the center of the city is great. Simultaneous provision of the travel-time data of these three or two routes on the roads before the individual branch points of the routes not only allows drivers to roughly calculate a travel time to their own destination but also prompts them to select the most appropriate route, from which dispersion of traffic flow to less crowded roads can be expected. This paper describes the configuration, functions, and operation of each multiroute travel-time data provision system and reports the results of the authors' investigations and surveys on the effectiveness of each system and on the effect of the system on traffic flow dispersion. >
