Abstract: Using 16 energy points of e+e− annihilation data collected in the vicinity of the J/ψ resonance with the BESIII detector and with a total integrated luminosity of around 100pb−1, we study the relative phase between the strong and electromagnetic amplitudes of J/ψ decays. The relative phase between J/ψ electromagnetic decay and the continuum process (e+e− annihilation without the J/ψ resonance) is confirmed to be zero by studying the cross section lineshape of μ+μ− production. The relative phase between J/ψ strong and electromagnetic decays is then measured to be (84.9±3.6)∘ or (−84.7±3.1)∘ for the 2(π+π−)π0 final state by investigating the interference pattern between the J/ψ decay and the continuum process. This is the first measurement of the relative phase between J/ψ strong and electromagnetic decays into a multihadron final state using the lineshape of the production cross section. We also study the production lineshape of the multihadron final state ηπ+π− with η→π+π−π0, which provides additional information about the phase between the J/ψ electromagnetic decay amplitude and the continuum process. Additionally, the branching fraction of J/ψ→2(π+π−)π0 is measured to be (4.73±0.44)% or (4.85±0.45)%, and the branching fraction of J/ψ→ηπ+π− is measured to be (3.78±0.68)×10−4. Both of them are consistent with the world average values. The quoted uncertainties include both statistical and systematic uncertainties, which are mainly caused by the low statistics. Abstract: We report a study of the e+e−→D+D−π+π− process using e+e− collision data samples with an integrated luminosity of 2.5fb−1 at center-of-mass energies from 4.36 to 4.60GeV, collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The D1(2420)+ is observed in the D+π+π− mass spectrum. The mass and width of the D1(2420)+ are measured to be (2427.2±1.0stat.±1.2syst.)MeV/c2 and (23.2±2.3stat.±2.3syst.)MeV, respectively. In addition, the Born cross sections of the e+e−→D1(2420)+D−+c.c.→D+D−π+π− and e+e−→ψ(3770)π+π−→D+D−π+π− processes are measured as a function of the center-of-mass energy.

Abstract: The four decay modes D0→ϕπ0, D0→ϕη, D+→ϕπ+, and D+→ϕK+ are studied by using a data sample taken at the centre-of-mass energy s=3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1. The branching fractions of the first three decay modes are measured to be B(D0→ϕπ0)=(1.168±0.028±0.028)×10−3, B(D0→ϕη)=(1.81±0.46±0.06)×10−4, and B(D+→ϕπ+)=(5.70±0.05±0.13)×10−3, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. In addition, the upper limit of the branching fraction for D+→ϕK+ is given to be 2.1×10−5 at the 90% confidence level. The ratio of B(D0→ϕπ0) to B(D+→ϕπ+) is calculated to be (20.49±0.50±0.45)%, which is consistent with the theoretical prediction based on isospin symmetry between these two decay modes. Abstract: Using a data sample of e+e− collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1 collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of s=3.773GeV, we search for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D0→π0π0π0, π0π0η, π0ηη and ηηη using the double tag method. The absolute branching fractions are measured to be B(D0→π0π0π0)=(2.0±0.4±0.3)×10−4, B(D0→π0π0η)=(3.8±1.1±0.7)×10−4 and B(D0→π0ηη)=(7.3±1.6±1.5)×10−4 with the statistical significances of 4.8σ, 3.8σ and 5.5σ, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. No significant signal of D0→ηηη is found, and the upper limit on its decay branching fraction is set to be B(D0→ηηη)

Abstract: Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at six center-of-mass energies between 4.008 and 4.600 GeV, we observe the processes e+e−→ϕϕω and e+e−→ϕϕϕ. The Born cross sections are measured and the ratio of the cross sections σ(e+e−→ϕϕω)/σ(e+e−→ϕϕϕ) is estimated to be 1.75±0.22±0.19 averaged over six energy points, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The results represent first measurements of these interactions.

Abstract: We report the first observation of the decay Λc+→Σ−π+π+π0, based on data obtained in e+e− annihilations with an integrated luminosity of 567 pb−1 at s=4.6 GeV. The data were collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The absolute branching fraction B(Λc+→Σ−π+π+π0) is determined to be (2.11±0.33(stat.)±0.14(syst.))%. In addition, an improved measurement of B(Λ+c→Σ−π+π+) is determined as (1.81±0.17(stat.)±0.09(syst.))%.

Abstract: Based on e+e− annihilation data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 13 center-of-mass energies from 4.008 to 4.600 GeV, measurements of the Born cross section of e+e−→pp¯π0 are performed. No significant resonant structure is observed in the measured energy dependence of the cross section. The upper limit on the Born cross section of e+e−→Y(4260)→pp¯π0 at the 90% C.L. is determined to be 0.01 pb. The upper limit on the ratio of the branching fractions B(Y(4260)→pp¯π0)B(Y(4260)→π+π−J/ψ) at the 90% C.L. is determined to be 0.02%. Keywords: Hadrons, Cross section measurements, Y(4260)

Abstract: We study the decays of J/ψ and ψ(3686) to the final states Σ(1385)0Σ¯(1385)0 and Ξ0Ξ¯0 based on a single baryon tag method using data samples of (1310.6±7.0)×106 J/ψ and (447.9±2.9)×106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decays to Σ(1385)0Σ¯(1385)0 are observed for the first time. The measured branching fractions of J/ψ and ψ(3686) to Ξ0Ξ¯0 are in good agreement with, and much more precise than, the previously published results. The angular parameters for these decays are also measured for the first time. The measured angular decay parameter for J/ψ→Σ(1385)0Σ¯(1385)0, α=−0.64±0.03±0.10, is found to be negative, different to the other decay processes in this measurement. In addition, the “12% rule” and isospin symmetry in the decays of J/ψ and ψ(3686) to ΞΞ¯ and Σ(1385)Σ¯(1385) are tested.

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction for Λc+→Λμ+νμ. This measurement is based on a sample of e+e− annihilation data produced at a center-of-mass energy s=4.6 GeV, collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 567 pb−1. The branching fraction is determined to be B(Λc+→Λμ+νμ)=(3.49±0.46(stat)±0.27(syst))%. In addition, we calculate the ratio B(Λc+→Λμ+νμ)/B(Λc+→Λe+νe) to be 0.96±0.16(stat)±0.04(syst).

Abstract: By analyzing 2.93fb−1 of data taken at the ψ(3770) resonance peak with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fractions for the hadronic decays D+→KS0KS0K+, D+→KS0KS0π+, D0→KS0KS0 and D0→KS0KS0KS0. They are determined to be B(D+→KS0KS0K+)=(2.54±0.05stat.±0.12sys.)×10−3, B(D+→KS0KS0π+)=(2.70±0.05stat.±0.12sys.)×10−3, B(D0→KS0KS0)=(1.67±0.11stat.±0.11sys.)×10−4 and B(D0→KS0KS0KS0)=(7.21±0.33stat.±0.44sys.)×10−4, where the second one is measured for the first time and the others are measured with significantly improved precision over the previous measurements.

Abstract: We extract the e+e−→π+π− cross section in the energy range between 600 and 900 MeV, exploiting the method of initial state radiation. A data set with an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1 taken at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider is used. The cross section is measured with a systematic uncertainty of 0.9%. We extract the pion form factor |Fπ|2 as well as the contribution of the measured cross section to the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to (g−2)μ. We find this value to be aμππ,LO(600–900MeV)=(368.2±2.5stat±3.3sys)⋅10−10, which is between the corresponding values using the BaBar or KLOE data.

Abstract: By analyzing a data set of 2.92 fb−1 of e+e− collision data taken at s=3.773 GeV and 106.41×106 ψ(3686) decays taken at s=3.686 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the branching fraction and the partial decay width for ψ(3770)→γχc0 to be B(ψ(3770)→γχc0)=(6.88±0.28±0.67)×10−3 and Γ[ψ(3770)→γχc0]=(187±8±19) keV, respectively. These are the most precise measurements to date.

13. Experimental Research and Finite Element Analysis of Progressive Collapse Resistance of RC

Abstract: In this experimental study of continuous collapse of reinforced concrete frame structure, the authors design a 2*2 layer of reinforced concrete frame model and simulate the continuous collapse process of frame structure with the pseudo static test method, and hybrid control force and displacement loading method. While the Angle collapsed failure process and plastic hinge form development are observed, the date on resistance, reinforcement and concrete strain is collected and the characteristics of resistance to the continuous collapse of reinforced concrete frame structure is analyzed. By using ABAQUS finite element software to simulate the process of continuous collapse of reinforced concrete frame structures prism failure, resistance curves are spotted and are compared with the experiment result, and the congruency identified between them shows that the simulation can better simulate the process of continuous collapses of the model. On the basis of the corner posts failure simulation, the progressive collapse process is simulated and analyzed with ABAQUS when the reinforced concrete frame structural long side of the column are failure, and accordingly what is discussed is the collapse of the force during the conversion mechanism. The simulation results also show: Firstly, that during the conversion process of column failure, framework has gone through three stages ranging from the elastic stage, the stage of formation of plastic hinge, to the stage of concrete damage and suspension cable; Secondly, the beam in frame failure area has experienced the conversion process by bending to the suspension cable to provide continuous collapse resistance.

Abstract: Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks many tasks in clinical oncology due to possibly develop general tumor in men and, usually lead to malignant to death within years. Researches had reported about major factors for being HCC was male sex and HCC associated with cirrhosis in childhood was found more common in males than females. In certain mouse strains as studied, breeding with testosterone significantly increases the development of HCC. Furthermore, castration of male mice diminished the frequency of the development of liver tumors. Meanwhile Male hepatitis B virus transgenic mice have greater occurrence of HCC than females. Methods We apply degenerate priming PCR to observe the expression of various steroid receptors in livers. Yeast-two hybrid screening to search a novel RNA fragment helps to find a new full-length gene by RACE experiment. RT-PCR is applied to detect various of expression in tissues and cell lines. In situ hybridization detects DNA in Chromosome mapping. GFP-constructs transfection proves the gene localization in cells. Immunoprecipitation pulldown assay verifies protein interaction. Gene transfection followed with luciferase assay demonstrates interaction of genes within cellular signaling. Genomic alignment analysis for observing sequences data perform from NCBI database website (http://www.ncbi.nim.nih.gov/genebank/). Results The androgen receptor (AR) expression level is found at the highest level among the steroid receptors families detected in liver tumors. By yeast-two hybrid screening, we cloned an ARCAP (Androgen Receptor Complex Associated Protein), of 95 Kd in molecular weight and its cDNA. ARCAP locates at Chromosome 1. Our findings indicate ARCAP highly expresses in hepatoma cell lines and liver tumors and their adjacent tumors as observed. Yeast two-hybrid assay and in vitro immunoprecipitation assays demonstrated an interaction between AR and ARCAP. Conclusion Our aim is to search for different types and levels of steroid receptors expressed within human hepatocellular carcinomas and in the adjacent liver tissues. To verify possible molecular mechanisms by which AR might affect hepatoma cells, we had characterized a novel protein ARCAP which functions as a coregulator to interact with AR within liver. The ligand-dependent AR with its cofactor, ARCAP, can induce a signal cascade by transactivation.

Abstract: The influence of Mg content on the mechanical properties, degradation behavior, in vitro cell adhesion, and in vivo behavior of as-extruded Zn–xMg–0.1Ca (x = 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt%, 1.5 wt%) alloys was investigated. A high Mg content could increase the volume fraction of the hard Mg2Zn11 phase distributed at grain boundaries. This condition could significantly improve yield strength and ultimate tensile strength. Mg addition could adjust the degradation rate of Zn alloys and influence cytocompatibility. ZnMg1Ca0.1 alloy showed the highest adhesion density of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) because the degradation rate of ZnMg1Ca0.1 alloy could supply appropriate pH and [Zn2+] for BMSCs. Mg addition could improve the cytocompatibility of Zn Mg Ca alloys. However, a Mg content threshold was observed, and the Mg content should be exactly controlled. Combined with the mechanical properties, the degradation rate of zinc alloy implants could be adjusted to match the healing of tissues by adding Mg. In vivo results showed that the degradation rate of the optimized Zn Mg Ca alloy could match the healing of local tissues or organs. Animal implant results revealed alloy safety.

Abstract: In this study, heat treatment and extrusion were used respectively to optimize the microstructure of a novel Mg-2Y-1Zn-0.4Zr alloy, and its mechanical property, degradation behavior and cytocompatibility were investigated. Stress-strain curves showed that both heat treatment and extrusion could improve the mechanical properties of the alloy. Electrochemical results indicated that, comparing with as-cast specimen, the heat treated and as-extruded samples showed lower corrosion rate and less susceptibility to pitting corrosion. The cytotoxicity was evaluated using the methylthiazolyl diphenyltetrazolium bromide method via mouse fibroblast L929 cells. The results revealed that the cytocompatibility of Mg-2Y-1Zn-0.4Zr alloy was enhanced by heat treatment and extrusion. Besides, as-extruded alloy showed favorable mechanical property, the best degradation behavior and cytocompatibility which suggests that as-extruded may be a good candidate to be used in biomedical applications.

Abstract: Ultra-fine-grained Zn-0.5Mn alloy was prepared by multi-pass hot extrusion. Minimum grain size of the Zn-0.5Mn alloy was about 0.35 µm, it exhibited room temperature superplasticity. During multi-pass extrusion, the pinning force of MnZn13 rendered the subgrains stable and restrained grain growth. The ultra-fine grain was finally formed.

Abstract: The Solar Influences Data Analysis Center (SIDC) issued a new version (version 2) of the sunspot number data in July 2015. The 13-month smoothed monthly sunspot number from the new version is used for the first time to research the relations among the feature parameters of solar cycles under the bimodal distribution for the modern era cycles (10–23), and, their physical implications are discussed. These relations are utilized to predict the maximum amplitude of solar cycle 25. Cycle 25 is predicted to start in October 2020 and reach its maximum amplitude of 168.5 ± 16.3 in October 2024, thus, it should be stronger than cycle 24 but weaker than cycle 23.

Abstract: The rapid spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in many countries has caused inconvenience in conducting daily life activities, and even deaths. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid applied in clinical medicine since 1957, especially in immune therapy fields. Herein, we present the characteristics of Dexamethasone, from molecular mechanisms such as genomic and nongenomic pathways by cellular signal regulations, to clinical applications in various phases of the disease. During COVID-19 pandemic, Dexamethasone given to patients who required oxygen or ventilation therapy showed improved life efficacy.

Abstract: Using a data sample of 448.1 × 10 6 ψ ( 3686 ) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the first observation of the electromagnetic Dalitz decay ψ ( 3686 ) → η ′ e + e − , with significances of 7.0σ and 6.3σ when reconstructing the η ′ meson via its decay modes η ′ → γ π + π − and η ′ → π + π − η ( η → γ γ ), respectively. The weighted average branching fraction is determined to be B ( ψ ( 3686 ) → η ′ e + e − ) = ( 1.90 ± 0.25 ± 0.11 ) × 10 − 6 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Abstract: Multiferroic BiMnO3 with a highly distorted perovskite structure induced by the stereochemically active 6s(super 2) electron lone pairs of Bi(super 3+) is synthesized at a high pressure of 6 GPa. The analysis shows that the synthetic BiMnO3 ceramic displays ferromagnetic and ferroelectric orderings simultaneously, that is ferroelectromagnetism below its ferromagnetic Curie temperature T(sub M) approximately equal to 100 K.

Abstract: The statistical relationship between sunspot area (SA) and sunspot number (SN) is investigated through analysis of their daily observation records from May 1874 to April 2015. For a total of 1607 days, representing $3~\%$ of the total interval considered, either SA or SN had a value of zero while the other parameter did not. These occurrences most likely reflect the report of short-lived spots by a single observatory and subsequent averaging of zero values over multiple stations. The main results obtained are as follows: i) The number of spotless days around the minimum of a solar cycle is statistically negatively correlated with the maximum strength of solar activity of that cycle. ii) The probability distribution of SA generally decreases monotonically with SA, but the distribution of SN generally increases first, then it decreases as a whole. The different probability distribution of SA and SN should strengthen their non-linear relation, and the correction factor [ $k$ ] in the definition of SN may be one of the factors that cause the non-linearity. iii) The non-linear relation of SA and SN indeed exists statistically, and it is clearer during the maximum epoch of a solar cycle.

Abstract: Physics letters / B B 781, 368 - 375 (2018). doi:10.1016/j.physletb.2018.04.017, Using a data sample of $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 $fb^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}= 3.773~GeV$,we search for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^{0}\to\pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$, $\pi^{0}\pi^{0}\eta$, $\pi^{0}\eta\eta$ and $\eta\eta\eta$ using the double tag method. The absolute branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to\pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}) = (2.0 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.3)\times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to\pi^{0}\pi^{0}\eta) = (3.8 \pm 1.1 \pm 0.7)\times 10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to\pi^{0}\eta\eta) = (7.3 \pm 1.6 \pm 1.5)\times 10^{-4}$ with the statistical significances of $4.8\sigma$, $3.8\sigma$ and $5.5\sigma$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. 29. Structural and electrical properties of infinite-layer CaCuO2 under high pressure

Abstract: The structural and electrical properties of infinite-layer CaCuO2 (IL CaCuO2) under high pressure at room temperature were studied using a diamond anvil cell by in situ high pressure energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction with synchrotron radiation and by simultaneous resistance and electrical capacitance measurements. The results indicate that the primary crystal structure of IL CaCuO2 is stable under pressure up to 30 GPa with an anisotropic compressibility. The equation of state of IL CaCuO2 was obtained from the V/V0−P relationship based on the Birch–Murnaghan equation, which gives rise to a bulk modulus B0=96 GPa in the low pressure range below 6 GPa, and B0=186 GPa at pressures from 6 to 30 GPa for IL CaCuO2. The resistance and capacitance measurements of IL CaCuO2 up to 20 GPa revealed several unusual changes. There is an abrupt resistance drop in the pressure range of 3–6 GPa followed by an abnormal hump occurring around 12 GPa with increasing pressure. Corresponding changes were also observed in the dependence of capacitance on pressure. The former drop is attributed to an isostructural phase transition as observed in the synchrotron radiation experiments. The latter is considered to be related to an electronic structure transition resulting from the anisotropic compression of the IL CaCuO2 unit cell under high pressure.

Abstract: Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at six center-of-mass energies between 4.008 and 4.600 GeV, we observe the processes e + e − → ϕ ϕ ω and e + e − → ϕ ϕ ϕ . The Born cross sections are measured and the ratio of the cross sections σ ( e + e − → ϕ ϕ ω ) / σ ( e + e − → ϕ ϕ ϕ ) is estimated to be 1.75 ± 0.22 ± 0.19 averaged over six energy points, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The results represent first measurements of these interactions.

Abstract: Farm system models are increasingly being used to assess the implications of land use and practice changes on profitability and environmental impacts. Exploring implications beyond individual farms requires the linkage of such models to land resource information, which for pastoral systems includes forage supply. The New Zealand Land Resource Inventory (LRI) and associated Land Use Capability (LUC) database includes estimates of the potential stock carrying capacity across the country, which can be used to derive annual, but not seasonal, patterns of pasture growth. The Agricultural Production Systems Simulator (APSIM) was used, with generic soil profiles based on descriptions of LUC classes, to generate pasture growth curves (PGCs) in three regions of the country. The simulated pasture yields were similar to the estimates in the LRI spatial database, and varied with LUC Class within and across regions. The simulated PGCs also agreed well with measured data. The approach can be used to obtain spatially discrete estimates of seasonal pasture growth patterns across New Zealand, enabling investigation of land use and management changes at regional scales. Abstract: The visible light responsive photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol was investigated in aqueous suspension of pure TiO2 under visible light by a surface-complex-mediated path. The addition of tert-butyl alcohol, a common OH radical scavenger, did not affect the visible activity of 4-chlorophenol, which indicates that OH radicals are not responsible for the degradation. UV-Visible result indicated that the surface complexation between phenolic compounds and TiO2 was formed, which was responsible for the visible light activity. The activity decreased dramatically after Pt deposition. The photocatalytic activity increased with increasing the S-BET of the catalyst. The crystal proportion of catalyst strongly influence the photocatalytic activity. The possible mechanism was investigated.

Abstract: Urine of grazing livestock is the greatest contributor to leached nitrogen (N) in our environment. While many N cycling models have used average urine excretions as input data, concentration and volume of individual urination events can vary greatly. Stock camps receive large amounts of urine and pose a high risk of N leaching, especially when animals are set stocked over several days. A new urine sensor is described, along with the variation in urine characteristics of break-grazed cows. N leaching was modelled based on sensor data collection, and paddock-scale estimates were compared to those based on average urine data. There was a 10% difference in estimated N leached by two pumice soils, but both leached 10% less N when varying urine values were used compared to average urine values. The new data showed a frequency distribution pattern of urinary N concentration in urination events that differed to that estimated using earlier data. Thus, frequency distribution patterns have a large effect on modelled N leaching loss and need to be based on extensive data collection to increase the confidence in improving estimates of N leaching. Campsites, which occupy 5-15% of a hill country paddock, account for about half of all excreted urine; their locations can be predicted for the targeting of N-loss mitigation strategies using a simple topographic map of the farm. Abstract: The ability to understand and predict ruminant nitrogen (N) partitioning has become important as concerns over the environmental impact of pastoral agriculture increase. A mechanistic model of N partitioning from dairy cows consuming ryegrass was used to quantify the amount of N secreted in milk, urine, and faeces, and retained in body tissues. Data from lactating dairy cows (13 N balance experiments) were used to evaluate the model. Predictions for milk, urinary, faecal, and total excreta N were in agreement with observed values. Empirical models have been successful in predicting N partitioning from ruminants, but such approaches lack the underlying biological processes and may not apply to all observed values. An improved representation of the underlying mechanisms of N partitioning and the possibility of identifying areas where knowledge is lacking was achieved by the use of the current mechanistic model. 43. Effects of weather variability on sheep and beef farming in northern Southland, New Zealand: A modelling analysis

Abstract: Inter-annual weather variation has profound effects on pasture production and pastoral farm performance. However, the relationship between the variation in herbage and animal production and farm economic and environmental (nitrate leaching and greenhouse gas emission) outcomes are not clearly quantified, especially with varying farm management strategies applied under variable weather scenarios. We used a pasture model (APSIM-AgPasture), corroborated by measured pasture growth data, to generate pasture growth curves for a typical sheep and beef farm in northern Southland for the past 39 years, and grouped them into five weather scenarios. We fed these curves into a farm system model (Farmax) to examine the changes in farm performance with various management adaptations. We found that farm economic and environmental outcomes did not respond proportionally to pasture production; compared with the variation range in herbage production, the variation range in animal production was smaller, but the variation range in farm profitability was larger. Environmental efficiency (nitrate leaching and greenhouse gas emissions per unit of animal products) was high in wet years. Our results highlight the importance of considering the nonproportional changes among pasture production, animal production, profitability, and environmental outcomes of pastoral farming when selecting farm management strategies and tactics to adapt to weather variations, and indicate the necessity of incorporating these non-linear relationships in the development of farm management decision support tools. Abstract: The synthesis and the x-ray diffraction patter, magnetic susceptibility, and electrical resistivity of the orthorhombic phase of SrIr[O.sub.3] is described. The magnetic and electrical properties showed that the orthorhombic SrIr[O.sub.3] perovskite is paramagnetic below 170 K and is metallic above 44 K before a band type metal insulator transition appeared.

Abstract: The multiferroic [Ho.sub.0.8][Dy.sub.0.2]Mn[O.sub.3] compound crystallizing into hexagonal perovskite is examined by using an in situ high pressure Raman scattering method. The studies have shown that with increasing pressure, the compound has transformed from hexagonal-type into an orthorhombic-type perovskite.

Abstract: The temperature dependence of resistivities of [Eu.sub.0.58][Sr.sub.0.42]Mn[O.sub.3] at different magnetic fields under ambient pressure and 1GPa is presented. The findings suggest that the antiferromagnetic insulating phase could be transformed into the ferromagnetic metallic phase by either magnetic field or pressure.

47. Structural modulation and magnetic properties of hexagonal Ba(Ti1−xFex)O3−δ ceramics

Abstract: This paper investigates the structural and magnetic properties of hexagonal Ba(Ti1-xFex)O3-delta (x=0.3 and 0.7) ceramics, synthesized with solid-state reaction method. Transmission electron microscope investigations reveal that structural phase separation featured by non-modulated and modulated phases is identified by the electron diffraction patterns taken along [0 0 1] zone axis in x=0.3 sample (BTF30). While for x=0.7 sample (BTF70), a pure phase with commensurate and incommensurate modulations at different directions is identified. The superstructure peaks observed in their X-ray diffraction patterns are verified by their individual commensurate modulation, q(s)=1/2 (31-2) in the modulated phase of BTF30 and q(4,-1)=4/9(3 0 4)-(0 0 1) in BTF70. In addition to the room-temperature weak ferromagnetism of BTF30 and paramagnetism of BTF70, spin glass transitions with T-f=3.4 K for the former and T-f=33.6 K for the latter are observed. On the basis of the structural characteristics, the influence of O1 and O2 vacancies on magnetic and dielectric properties of the doped system is discussed. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. 48. Structural evolution induced by acceptor doping into BaTiO3 ceramics

Abstract: Solid state reaction method is used to synthesize Ba(Tii-xTMx)O3-delta (TM = Fe, Mn and Co) and (Ba1-ySry)(Ti1/3Fe2/3)O3-delta ceramics. The X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy investigations reveal that structural evolutions from an orthorhombic BaTiO3 to a hexagonal Ba(Ti1-xTMx)O3-delta, a hexagonal to a rhombohedral in Ba(Ti1-xMnx)O3-delta, and a hexagonal to a pseudo-cubic transition in (Ba1-ySry)(Ti1/3Fe2/3)O3-delta are induced by increasing the doping concentration. Due to the oxygen vacancies derived from acceptor doping, nanoscale domains of incommensurate modulation (ICM) resultant are commonly observed in the hexagonal Ba(Ti1-xTMx)O3-delta compounds. The newly discovered rhombohedral Ba(Ti1/3Mn2/3)O3-delta having characteristic of face-sharing prism corner-connected by oxygen atoms is a typical example in searching for novel multiferroics. Discrepancies between the ionic radii of the B- and A-site dopants and that of Ti and Ba as a function of the doping concentrations, i.e., the effects of oxygen vacancies and the electronic configurations of the dopants, are concluded to be the driving forces for the structural transitions. Abstract: Nonlinear photonic crystals, whose refractive index distribution can be tuned optically, have been used to demonstrate all-optical switching due to a change of the refractive index and subsequent shift of the bandgap edge or the defect state resonant frequency. Semiconductor-based all-optical switching is still limited by the weak nonlinearity and the slow response time owing to the slow dynamics of two-photon-generated free carriers. Here we introduce a concept of hybrid nonlinear photonic crystals that are made from infiltrating the air-hole array or coating the surface of the usual semiconductor photonic crystal slabs with organic polystyrene materials. The hybrid configuration can help to realize very fast response speeds and strong nonlinearity in the semiconductor-based device. We study the influence of the thickness of the polystyrene film on the gap shift scale, and also analyze its physical mechanism. The switching effect on this structure was discussed, and shows that the nonlinear hybrid structure can achieve relatively larger transmission contrast. Our result may be helpful in designing integrated optical circuits.

50. Fabrication and stability of the Ca1−xCuO2 chain structure during high-pressure and high-temperature sintering

Abstract: Ca1-xCuO2 contains an infinite one-dimensional edge-sharing [CuO2] chain and is readily fabricated by a solid-state reaction in a moderate oxygen atmosphere (10-12 bar). High-temperature (890-1170 degrees C) and high-pressure (3.0-5.0 GPa) sintering was used to study the stability of the Ca1-xCuO2 samples. We found that the Ca1-xCuO2 chain structure remained stable at high temperature, high pressure and high oxygen pressure. However, we found that the stoichiometry of the Ca1-xCuO2 compound is modified after high-pressure sintering, suggesting that high-pressure sintering may increase the calcium content of the Ca1-xCuO2 chain structure.
