Complessità ,Cura ,formazione ,Ironia ,Dialogo ,Education - Abstract

The approach to the design of social and health care environments should no longer be understood solely as a function of the treatment of disease but must be able to link instances of humanisation through the design of health care places with the improvement of patient conditions and staff satisfaction. Several studies show how spaces can have positive effects both on patients, in terms of participation, favourable contexts for healing processes, positive impact on clinical outcomes of illness and safety conditions, and on staff, in terms of organisational well-being, increased performance and reduced conflicts. The following paper reports on a training exercise carried out during the specialisation course in pedagogy and didactics with students of the Masters in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, who tried their hand at designing innovative and inclusive environments in order to improve their professional skills. BORDERLANDS , *WORKING hours , *PROFESSIONS , *SOCIAL services , *DIALECTIC , *GAZE - Abstract
The social care is affected by multidisciplinary work which by its nature fragments the fragility of subjects into segments dictated by the reference disciplines, vulnerability is experienced as a sort of common exploration of border regions. Working with the person, the protagonist of their life project, means observing them in their uniqueness and accompanying them by their subjectivity. Interdisciplinarity focuses on a dialectic between knowledge that starts from a shared vision of the subject. By the proactive experience of working in a team in a Day Center for people with disabilities, we intend to broaden our gaze to enhance the interdisciplinary dialogue between different services and professionals, starting from a humanistic vision of care as a point of ontological convergence of knowledge and skills of pedagogical, social, legal and medical area about a culture of social work transversal to the plurality of knowledge in a trans-disciplinary perspective. In the daily challenges that healthcare professionals are called upon to face, pedagogical reflection can be a valuable ally to medicine, assisting professionals in managing the dynamics of the patient relationship. The dialogue between medicine and pedagogy represents an opportunity for interdisciplinarity that allows us to transcend the boundaries of science, fostering a vision of holistic patient care. The Radiotherapy department is an ideal setting to understand the patient’s genuine demand for treatment. This contribution, without claiming to be exhaustive, highlights some of the various personalized practices that the Gemelli ART Radiotherapy Center has implemented to place the patient at the centre of the treatment process. Rather than merely describing and classifying these practices, the focus is on reflecting on the foundations of ethically oriented actions undertaken at the Centre. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

What does the humanization of medicine and care mean? What type of education can be considered integral for building the identity of the medical professional and for the expert exercise of their skills in daily team work? The pedagogical reflection on the humanization of medicine calls for an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration perspective, bridging knowledge and action, scientific knowledge and the desire to care for others. This is especially relevant in healthcare contexts characterized by a multi-professional approach, as exemplified by the School of Specialization in Radiotherapy at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome. This contribution interprets several key conceptual frameworks to identify their educational potential, effective operational practices, and theoretical concepts that can enhance the pedagogical development of medical education. This project focuses on the examination and design of a medically relevant component, specifically a dental prosthesis, using the method of reverse engineering. Reverse engineering involves a thorough analysis of an existing piece to understand its functioning and specifications, with the aim of creating an improved or adapted version. In the medical context, this approach is employed to develop a specific component with medical significance. This study explores the steps of this process, emphasizing detailed understanding, design, and implementation of this dental prosthesis, with a particular focus on its utility and importance in the medical field. INTERPROFESSIONAL relations , *TRANSLATIONAL research , *BIOETHICS - Abstract
This article discusses an approach to translational bioethics (TB) that is concerned with the adaptation—or 'translation'—of concepts, theories and methods from bioethics to practical contexts, in order to support 'non‐bioethicists', such as researchers and healthcare practitioners, in dealing with their ethical issues themselves. Specifically, it goes into the participatory development of clinical ethics support (CES) instruments that respond to the needs and wishes of healthcare practitioners and that are tailored to the specific care contexts in which they are to be used. The theoretical underpinnings of this participatory approach to TB are found in hermeneutic ethics and pragmatism. As an example, the development of CURA, a low‐threshold CES instrument for healthcare professionals in palliative care, is discussed. From this example, it becomes clear that TB is a two‐way street. Practice may be improved by means of CES that is effectively tailored to specific end users and care contexts. The other way around, ethical theory may be enriched by means of the insights gained from engaging with practice in developing CES in a process of co‐creation. TB is also a two‐way street in the sense that it requires collaboration and commitment of both bioethicists and practitioners, who engage in a process of mutual learning. However, substantial challenges remain. For instance, is there a limit to the extent to which a method of moral reasoning can be adapted in order to meet the constraints of a given healthcare setting? Who is to decide, the bioethicist or the practitioners? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The healthcare sector faces intricate challenges that demand innovative solutions to enhance patient outcomes and streamline operations. The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has unleashed groundbreaking potential in numerous healthcare domains, including diagnostics, patient care, and disease management. This study explores the incorporation of AI-driven methodologies for the advanced monitoring of diabetes and kidney diseases. It underscores the development of predictive models that utilize six Machine Learning (ML) and four deep learning (DL) models: Our comprehensive data analysis and rigorous model evaluation showcase AI’s capability to significantly enhance clinical practices, fostering a proactive healthcare environment marked by precision, personalization, and predictive care. Our results demonstrate substantial enhancements in the accuracy of disease monitoring. For diabetes prediction, the Gradient Boosting (GB) and Random Forest (RF) models achieved up to 89.61% accuracy, while the hybrid LSTM-CNN model outperformed other DL models with an accuracy of 89.7%. For kidney disease prediction, the RF model reached 97.5% accuracy, and the LSTM-CNN model demonstrated a remarkable accuracy of 98.9%. These findings underscore the transformative potential of AI in healthcare, fostering a proactive environment characterized by precision, personalization, and predictive care. Integrating AI within CURA’s virtual wards facilitates earlier disease detection and timely interventions and enables more tailored treatment plans, ultimately optimizing healthcare delivery and patient management.

The genesis of the term ex-votos dates to the Greek and Roman people and brings in its semantics the recognition of faith, being materialized in pieces that symbolize gratitude for a grace achieved, in many cases referring to the cure of an illness. Ex-votos can present themselves in diverse ways. However, this article aims to analyze some aspects of the ex-votive letters and notes researched through the Ex-votos do Brasil project, which aims to identify and catalog the vast typology of Brazilian ex-votos. The focus here is justified by bringing elements arising from a Folkcommunicational and linguistic process, with theoretical bases that substantiate the importance and strength that the ex-voto has with the medium. WAR , *PEACE , *VIOLENCE - Abstract
Accepting the coexistence of good and evil within each of us is the turning point for starting a fight against evil, which gives rise to the sense of having to bind oneself cognitively to a state in which good produces nothing but good. Here is the profound message that comes from Etty Hillesum's experience of pain and hope. Aware that war produces nothing but chaos, especially inner chaos, it is the awareness of the difficulty of making a concrete consolidation of peace possible. Generally, after the war, two currents cross the world: a current of humanism and another of hatred. Taking a stand against hatred is the only possible way not to personally become perpetrators. For everything to take place concretely, a "political act" must be carried out, a practical action that starts from the person, from pain and from care so that the value of peace is realized. Abstract Background Healthcare professionals in palliative care are found to be confronted with moral challenges on a frequent basis. CURA is a low-threshold instrument for dialogical ethical reflection that was developed to deal with these challenges. A previous study identified the need of healthcare professionals to be trained to introduce CURA in their organization, initiate and facilitate reflections with CURA, and contribute to the implementation of CURA. The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a training for professionals to become ‘CURA-ambassadors’. Methods The training was developed in a participatory way in two cycles. We trained 72 healthcare professionals. The training was evaluated by means of a questionnaire and six semi-structured interviews. Results The study resulted in a blended learning training combining training sessions with an e-module and with practicing with organizing and facilitating CURA in daily healthcare practice. The main objectives of the training are to enable CURA-ambassadors to introduce CURA within their organization, initiate and facilitate ethical reflections using CURA, and contribute to the implementation of CURA. Participants were generally positive about the training program and the trainers. Technical difficulties related to the e-module were mentioned as main point of improvement. Discussion The training program can generate ownership, responsibility, and competency among CURA-ambassadors, which are essential foundations for implementing complex interventions in healthcare practice. The training program received positive evaluations shortly after completing the program. This study adds to our understanding of what is needed for healthcare professionals to use CURA, in order to support them in dealing with moral challenges and to foster their moral resilience. Further research is needed to assess whether participants experience the training as sufficient and effective when using and implementing CURA structurally in their organizations over a longer period of time.

TRADITIONAL medicine , *HUMAN experimentation , *HEALING - Abstract
In this article, the main objectives were to characterize the notions of health, disease and cure of the Yoruba of Nigeria (West Africa) and to make a confrontation between this ethnomedicine and modern Western medicine, based on evidence, given the fact that these two medicinal practices coexist in African territory. Considering the set of data voluminous to be articulated, as a methodology for the treatment of these data, it was decided to carry out a bibliographic study. The results show the existence of favorable and unfavorable elements both in the provision of medical services by traditional Yoruba medicine and in the provision of medical services by modern Western medicine. Acknowledging the challenges involved in the coexistence of two medical rationalities in the same geographical and sociocultural territory seems to be fundamental for the integration of this medical knowledge and practices for the benefit of the occupants of this territory. It is concluded that integration is feasible and mutually beneficial, and the relevance of ethnopsychological studies on this human encounter is emphasized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The objective of this article is to analyze the pericope of the “healing of Peter's mother-in-law” (Mc 1,29-31) as a paradigm for the concept of “church on the go”, based on the gestures and actions of Jesus in the first healing of the oldest gospel. We find, in the account of Peter's mother-in-law's healing, how Jesus, having left the synagogue of Capernaum, went to the house of Peter's mother-in-law and found her prostrate with fever and, in the gesture of approaching and touching her hand, lifting up immediately, made then served. We want, through the critical historical method, to verify the meaning of cures and exorcisms in the mission of the historical Jesus along with the symbolic meaning, as strategic actions of His mission in announcing and acting as the kingdom of God. Through the actions of the characters, the disciples and Jesus, in the interaction with Peter's mother-in-law who was bedridden, we aim to find the meaning of following and discipleship. As Jesus' actions in a house, we understand that approaching and touching are signs of Jesus' welcome in the specific environment of Galilee. Raising and serving are actions interpreted in a hermeneutic key as updating in words and attitudes the pastoral practice of a Church which goes forth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

33. «Cosa vuoi che io faccia per te?» (Lc 18,41). Salute e salvezza: una frattura da superare alla luce della prassi «terapeutica» di Gesù.

- Abstract
The article starts with some necessary theological clarifications: the priority of care must be affirmed against all dolorism; the importance of emotions and feelings against all rationalism; the objective of the person's integral salvation against all soteriology of the soul. It goes on showing the fecundity of revisiting the praxis of Jesus, specifically of his taking care of those who are affected by illness and disability, in the light of some contemporary studies of cultural anthropology (Csordas, Quaranta, Pulcini, Pilch). On the basis of these theological and anthropological premises, the article examines the text of Lk 18.31-19.10, aiming to highlight the symmetry between the healing of the blind man of Jericho and that of Zacchaeus, together with the whole therapeutic practice of Jesus. With gestures and words expressing a gratuitous and subversive action, Jesus places the human being at the centre and not their physical or moral illness, thus activating a process that begins with restoring dignity to the people themselves, giving them the opportunity to speak and rebuilding their vital ties, and reaches the point of evangelizing the very need for healing, projecting the light and healing/saving power of the Easter events on the human being's condition of limit, fragility and vulnerability. MEDICINAL plants , *SPECIES diversity , *CULTURAL values , *HEALING , *RITES & ceremonies , *FREEDOM of religion , *WELL-being - Abstract
The study assessed the interaction between people and therapeutic plants in the traditional pharmacopoeia in different contexts of healing and religiosity. Homegardens in the towns of Abaetetuba and Vigia, and stands at the market, Feira da 25 de Setembro, in the city of Belém, PA, were investigated. The methodology included conducting semi-structured interviews and photographic records to analyze the cultural and religious value aggregated to plants and their use in the tradition of these populations. The use of 50 species of therapeutic plants was identified, 29 at Feira da 25, 11 in Abaetetuba and 19 in Vigia. There is a greater diversity of species at Feira da 25 and the demand is related to mystical rituals. The species mucuracaá, catinga de mulata, rosemary and basil are frequently used in ritual works for spiritual protection. In the homegardens, residents expressed spiritual and affective connections, wherein the plants have sacred meanings in addition to transmitting well-being. Both at markets and in homegardens, diversity in the use of species associated with the domain of knowledge and traditions passed down through family generations means the use of plants is effective at curing diseases of the body and soul. DREAMS , *NINETEENTH century , *NARRATION , *PSYCHOANALYSIS , *CONDENSATION - Abstract
Through psychoanalysis Freud discovers, at the end of The Nineteenth Century, a kind of communication typical of the unconscious of the hysteric patients, of dreams in so called normal subjects and in the processes of narration and especially of poetry. Condensation and displacement, at the basis of the dream work, are typical of the metaphorical and metonymic processes of dreams, of symptoms and of poetry. Freud finds himself in a terrain that privileges, within the discourse of the cure, the same logic that his patients have taught him: the free associations at the margins of the formations of dreams follow the same unpredictable and fantastic paths in dreams as in symptom formation, in which sense can be issued by the strangest connections. A different logic from the one governing daily rationality or left-brain connections, closer to the illogic of the poets and of folly, or of the primary processes of the right brain.

- Abstract
Modern medicine is an increasingly technological medicine, forgetting that, since ancient times, medicine has always been a technological discipline. Critical views clash in the face of the exercise of technique, especially from those who fear that the dominance of technology overrides nature; on the contrary, technique can be thought as a natural human way of living in nature. COLLEGE curriculum , *EYE care , *ADULT education , *EDUCATORS , *MEDICAL education , *MEDICAL photography , *TRANSFORMATIVE learning - Abstract
The essay consists of two parts: the first discusses interdisciplinary issues relating to the neurobiological evidence that vision processes are processes of construction of reality. Therefore, moving from the interdependence between mindscape and landscape (Lingiardi, 2017), in the second part the text illustrates a proposal for the conjugation between photographic research "Eye Fitness" (Lovero, 2020) and pedagogical literature related to transformative learning (Mezirow, 2003; Taylor, Cranton, 2012), and to aesthetic languages (Formenti, 2017) in the training of care professionals (Schön, 1993; Mortari, 2004; Striano, Melacarne, Oliverio, 2018; Zannini, 2008). Therefore, in the light of research around medical education, the experimentation of the Laboratory "EYE CARE: Theories and Practices of Disciplinary Hybridization between Photography, Care and Complexity"; is investigated in the training project implemented in the "Adult Education course" of the degree course for Professional Health Educator of the School of Medicine of the Aldo Moro University of Bari, starting from a.y. 2021/2022, and the educational effects detected through qualitative analysis. NARRATION , *HUMAN beings , *STORYTELLING , *RECOGNITION (Psychology) , *RESPECT , *HEALTH self-care , *CONTEMPLATION , *AESTHETICS - Abstract
There is a place of suspension and pause; a place of detachment and double existence between the hic et nunc and somewhere else, indefinite in time and space; a place where meanings can be overturned, rearranged, renewed; a place where it is possible to retitle both events and experiences, which may need to be reordered, renamed and resewed, if ripped or frayed. This place is the liminal space of tales. A place developed from and for the limited nature of human beings, that takes care of its limit, its existential wound and its weakness. Mirroring, identification, recognition, departure, denial, denunciation, unmasking, discovery, knowledge, wonder, contemplation, revolution... to anyone who lives the dimensions of narration and storytelling, these dynamics can lead to a light and silent, intimate and hidden path towards deep respect of personal emptiness and kind self-care. EDUCATION theory , *APATHY , *PHILOSOPHY of education , *WELL-being , *CYNICISM , *PLEASURE - Abstract
The article aims to reflect on the link between food, education and self-care, presenting a pedagogical-clinical research work (Massa, 1992) carried out with educators in two nurseries in the city of Lecco. The object of food appears to be little explored by educational theory, even though it is characterised as an object-limb that materialises the concept of care, not only towards others, but also towards oneself. In a contemporaneity where the dimension of care has entered a profound crisis and the attitude of contemporary western man prevails strongly individualistic logics, characterised by feelings of loss, indifference, cynicism and passivity (Morin, 2015); reflecting on food and food practices from a pedagogical perspective means re-appropriating the taste, pleasure, joy of living and sharing that distinguish the individual's well-being (Birbes, 2012). The table, therefore, becomes an educational and caring space, where the subject is allowed to experience a process in the making, aimed at a well-being. The objective of this work is, therefore, to think of a pedagogy of nourishment that directs self-care through the pleasure of taste and conviviality from an early age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
