Our study explored the phytochemical composition and biological properties of sprouted and unsprouted quinoa seed extracts (red, black, and yellow varieties). We observed distinct differences in primary metabolites between sprouted and unsprouted seeds, particularly in carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Sprouted seeds exhibited increased levels of simple soluble sugars, amino acids, and fatty acids. Additionally, sprouted seeds showed higher quantities of polyphenols and flavonoids, with the black variety displaying the most. However, antioxidant activity did not directly correlate with phenol and flavonoid content, with unsprouted seeds demonstrating superior performance. Conversely, unsprouted seed extracts displayed greater anti-inflammatory efficacy, attributed to saponin loss during germination. Specifically, the best carbohydrate value was found in sprouted red seeds at 21.55±1.07 mg/g of plant material, the highest protein content was in sprouted red seeds at 4.6±0.28 mg/g, and the best lipid content was in sprouted black seeds at 2.97±0.13 mg/g. The highest polyphenol content was in sprouted black seeds at 10.74±0.6 mg E GA/g Ex, while the highest flavonoid content was also in sprouted black seeds. The most effective antioxidant activity in the DPPH test was observed in non-sprouted black seeds with an IC50 of 0.06±0.01 mg/ml. The highest hemolysis inhibition was found in sprouted red seeds at 49.04% at 0.8 mg/ml, and the greatest anti-inflammatory activity was in non-sprouted yellow seeds at 1.6±0.07 mg E Dc/mg Ex.

This study explored the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and photoprotective properties of Citrullus colocynthis fruit resin from Algeria. A range of assays were conducted to assess these bioactivities, including DPPH• radical scavenging, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), ABTS+, haemolysis, and anti-inflammatory tests. The resin extract exhibited potent antioxidant activity, with an IC50 of 0.674 ± 0.016 mg/mL for DPPH scavenging, a TAC value of 0.064 ± 0.004 mg E A as/mg Ex, and an FRAP EC50 of 0.476 ± 0.09 mg/mL. The ABTS+ assay revealed an IC50 of 0.067 ± 0.009 mg/mL. In the haemolysis test, the IC50 was 0.413 ± 0.005 mg/mL, while albumin denaturation assays indicated significant anti-inflammatory effects, with values of 1.37 mg E Dc/mg Ex for human serum albumin and an IC50 of 0.472 ± 0.037 mg/mL for egg albumin. Photoprotective activity was also demonstrated, with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 14.6196. Phenolic compounds such as vanillic acid and naringin were identified in the extracts, contributing to the bioactive properties. These findings suggest that Citrullus colocynthis fruit resin is a promising source of bioactive compounds, with potential applications in pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics.

This study aimed to assess the characteristics of Saharan plants by analyzing the chemical composition and evaluating the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of raw extracts from Matthiola livida DC., collected from the Oued-Souf region. The primary metabolites analysis revealed carbo-hydrates as the dominant components, with a concentration of 35.70 ± 0.03 mg/g dry weight. Using the maceration technique, three unrefined extracts (methanolic, ethanolic, and aqueous) were produced, with the aqueous extract yielding the highest output at 14.61%. Total polyphenol content varied from 170.82 to 102.42 mg of GA/g dry extract, and the ethanol extract had the highest flavonoid content at 97.03 ± 4.14 mg of QE/g dry extract. The DPPH• test showed the methanolic extract as the most potent antioxidant, with an IC50 of 153.56 μg/ml. The ethanolic extract offered the most protection to human erythrocytes, resulting in only 16.93% hemolysis at a concentration of 1 mg/ml. It also showed the strongest anti-inflammatory effects in vitro, with a protein denaturation inhibition equivalent to 11.29±1.10 mg of diclofenac sodium per milligram of dry extract. Additionally, IR spectroscopy identified several functional groups, including hydroxyl (O-H), carbonyl (C=O), and various carbon-hydrogen bonds (C-H, C=C, C-H). Future research should explore the clinical applicability of these findings to enhance the therapeutic potential of Matthiola livida extracts.

The hot plate test and writhing test were both employed to investigate the analgesic effects of Citrullus colocynthis fruit resin and Cyperus rotundus tuber resin at varying concentrations and time intervals. The hot-plate test results revealed that Citrullus colocynthis fruit resin demonstrated significant dose-dependent and time-dependent analgesic effects. In contrast, Cyperus rotundus Tuber resin did not exhibit substantial analgesic effects in the hot-plate test. In the writhing test, Citrullus colocynthis fruit resin exhibited clear dose-dependent analgesic effects at higher concentrations. Cyperus rotundus Tuber resin demonstrated significant analgesic effects in reducing writhing responses, although its efficacy was not as potent as the positive control indomethacin. These results offer insights into the potential use of these natural resins for pain management while also highlighting the importance of understanding the underlying mechanisms of their analgesic effects for further clinical applications.

There is growing interest in assessing local food systems to guide efforts toward sustainability and aligning these assessments with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, the complexity of portraying local food systems poses numerous challenges for local communities, and automated text analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) offer promising solutions. This study tested the use of an automated textual analysis to assess the alignment of the Mauricie region’s food system in Quebec, Canada, with the SDGs. The analysis examined 35 organizational documents from the region using an automated text analysis based on a list of keywords for each SDG. Initially, the analysis revealed that several initiatives in the Mauricie region covered specific SDGs quite well, such as eliminating hunger (SDG 2). Areas such as health and well-being (SDG 3) received moderate attention, while SDGs such as life below water and on land (SDGs 14 and 15) were less emphasized. When these results were presented to regional stakeholders, these stakeholders reported that the findings did not closely reflect their perceptions of the food system. This study confirms the potential of automated textual analysis and AI in assessing local food systems and underscores the parameters and challenges of accurately portraying sustainability in local food systems.

Quantum Physics - Abstract
In this paper, we develop a new classical simulation of quantum bit (qubit) by use of analog components in order to be able to simulate the quantum properties such as the superposition of states. As part of this new approach, we have also implemented many logical gates (Pauli-X, Hadamard, and Conditional phase-shift gates). Simulation of Hadamard and Conditional phase-shift gates using Proteus Design Suite is also presented and discussed in this work., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1111.3328 by other authors

Fatigue crack propagation can considerably reduce the life of components, leading to sudden failures. This paper provides a method for fatigue life prediction based on ultrasonic non-destructive inspection applied on Al 2024 T3 material.A new crack quantification model based on ultrasonic waves features is developed. To analyse the performance and efficacity of the model, the probability of detection is determined using the “signal response” technique. The Paris model is used to predict the fatigue life taking into consideration the initial crack distributions, the dispersion of the parameters underlined by the Least-squares method and Monte-Carlo simulations.Reliability evaluation is discussed later for two cases: Detection and No-detection case.If no indication is presented, an inspection detection threshold is determined and optimized. This proposed indicator will be helpful for industrial environments whenever the inspection machine does not have any indication.Considering the ultrasonic inspection data, an updating reliability via the Bayesian approach is suggested. The results of this approach can lead to a gain in the life span or a gain of the costs generated by the failure of the part.

- Abstract
The objective was to evaluate the impact of a psychoeducational program on the stress and quality of life of parents with a child with autism. In total, 20 parents attended a shortened version (SV group) of the program and 15 others a complete version (CV group). An assessment of perceived stress, parenting stress, and quality of life was performed before (T0), after (T1), and 6 months after the program (T2). Parental satisfaction was measured at T1. Parents in the CV group appeared to be significantly less stressed, and there was a significant improvement in certain areas of their quality of life (relationship with the child, psychological well-being, and personal fulfillment). No significant effects were observed in the SV group. Both groups highly appreciated the program. These results confirm the need to offer support to parents after receiving a diagnosis of autism for their child.

This study aimed to evaluate the dry crude latex extract from P. tomentosa, endemic to the Sahara, by determining the total content of polyphenols and flavonoids, and detecting the plant compounds by HPLC chromatography. Also, Antioxidant activity was measured through three tests: (BCB) beta-carotene/linoleic acid bleaching assay, (DPPH) radical scavenging and (FRAP) ferric reducing ability assay. In addition, anti-inflammatory activity. The results showed that the dry crude latex extract of P. tomentosa showed moderate content of polyphenols and flavonoids in the dry crude latex extract of P. tomentosa. Besides, qualitative HPLC analysis led to the detection of a group of phenolic compounds of this extract that have therapeutic properties. Also, the studied extract had strong activity in the beta-carotene/linoleic acid bleaching test and the values obtained were very close to the reference gallic acid. The results also indicated significant antioxidant activities in the DPPH and FRAP assay compared to ascorbic acid. In addition, the strong effect of dry crude latex extract from P. tomentosa in inhibiting protein denaturation induced by albumin hyperthermia, compared to ASPEGIC®, which is used as a reference drug in infections. In conclusion, the results indicate that the dry crude latex extract of P. tomentosa has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, which confirms the use of this extract in folk medicine, which could be a first step in introducing it into therapeutic applications.

abdominal surgery ,cost-effectiveness analysis ,global surgery ,high fraction of inspired oxygen ,low-and middle-income countries ,surgical site infection ,Anesthesiology ,RD78.3-87.3 - Abstract
Background: This study assessed the potential cost-effectiveness of high (80–100%) vs low (21–35%) fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) at preventing surgical site infections (SSIs) after abdominal surgery in Nigeria, India, and South Africa. Methods: Decision-analytic models were constructed using best available evidence sourced from unbundled data of an ongoing pilot trial assessing the effectiveness of high FiO2, published literature, and a cost survey in Nigeria, India, and South Africa. Effectiveness was measured as percentage of SSIs at 30 days after surgery, a healthcare perspective was adopted, and costs were reported in US dollars ($). Results: High FiO2 may be cost-effective (cheaper and effective). In Nigeria, the average cost for high FiO2 was $216 compared with $222 for low FiO2 leading to a −$6 (95% confidence interval [CI]: −$13 to −$1) difference in costs. In India, the average cost for high FiO2 was $184 compared with $195 for low FiO2 leading to a −$11 (95% CI: −$15 to −$6) difference in costs. In South Africa, the average cost for high FiO2 was $1164 compared with $1257 for low FiO2 leading to a −$93 (95% CI: −$132 to −$65) difference in costs. The high FiO2 arm had few SSIs, 7.33% compared with 8.38% for low FiO2, leading to a −1.05 (95% CI: −1.14 to −0.90) percentage point reduction in SSIs. Conclusion: High FiO2 could be cost-effective at preventing SSIs in the three countries but further data from large clinical trials are required to confirm this.

The numerical study of the impact of thermal radiation, chemical reaction, and heat source on MHD Casson fluid flow over a nonlinear inclined stretching surface with velocity slip in a Forchheimer porous medium is presented in this paper. The controlling equations are converted into nonlinear ODE's with appropriate similarity variables. Numerical solutions of the nonlinear ODE’s are solved by the Runge-Kutta method along with the shooting technique with MATLAB. It is vital to investigate the flow of Casson fluids (such drilling muds, clay coatings, various suspensions and certain lubricating oils, thermoplastic melts, and a variety of colloids) in the incidence of heat transfer in order to optimize the preparation of toffee, chocolate, and other delicacies. Numerical findings were given via graphs and tables for various intervals of the physical variables involved for velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles in addition to this, the coefficient of skin friction, Nusselt number, and local Sherwood number are also discussed. It is inferred from the graphs that the temperature of the plate decreases with increasing the values of the radiation parameter and Forchheimer porous medium parameter. The concentration is decreased in the presence of chemical reaction and Schmidt number. To ensure the validity of our findings, we compared them to previously published work and found significant agreement.

This study evaluates the antioxidant effects of aqueous leaf extract of Pistacia lentiscus (ALEPL) and its potential to counteract oxaliplatin (OXA)-induced mitochondrial oxidative stress in rat livers, a common side effect of chemotherapy in cancer treatment. Bioactive compounds were identified using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with Tandem Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS and MS), with Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) for chemical and mineral analysis. ALEPL showed notable antioxidant activity, with IC50 values of 4.30 ± 0.27 μg/mL for DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) scavenging, 13.64 ± 0.51 μg/mL for reducing power, 32.62 ± 5.32 μg/mL for hydroxyl radical scavenging, and 205.08 ± 25.77 μg/mL for superoxide anion radical scavenging. In ex vivo experiments, mitochondria isolated from Wistar rat livers were treated with OXA and ALEPL in a dose-dependent manner. ALEPL pretreatment effectively restored mitochondrial antioxidant enzyme activities, increased glutathione (GSH) levels, and reduced lipid peroxidation (MDA) caused by OXA. These findings suggest that ALEPL has the potential to act as a natural antioxidant to support cancer treatment by mitigating chemotherapy-induced oxidative stress. Future studies could explore its application as an adjuvant in clinical settings to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy while reducing its side effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sexually transmitted infections are a major public health problem. Most of these infections can be easily diagnosed and treated. The treatment and management of these infections require the mobilization of all health professionals and the active participation of patients. Self-treatment of sexually transmitted infections is common but little studied in Morocco. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the factors associated with self-treatment and its effects on the duration of symptoms of sexually transmitted infections before medical management. A cross-sectional interview survey of 1,100 women of childbearing age in health facilities in the province of Essaouira was carried out in search of factors associated with self-treatment in the presence of signs of sexually transmitted infections. In this context, self-medication in the presence of signs of STI was reported by 16.3% of women of childbearing age surveyed. This self-medication was statistically associated with the woman’s level of education (p = 0.000), diagnosis of an STI syndrome after examination (p < 0.01), marital status (p < 0.05), decision to seek treatment (p < 0.05), distance from the nearest health facility (p < 0.05), age of first sexual intercourse (p < 0.001), and monthly family income (p < 0.05). Age, place of residence, and multiple sexual partners in the last 12 months were not associated with self-medication (> 0.05). Finally, self-medication is common among patients with sexually transmitted infections, but these individuals are limited by a lack of information about the adverse effects, interactions, and contraindications of these drugs.

Thorough physical examination is a must for proper diagnosis of medical diseases and to elucidate all physical findings. Abdominal pain is a very common presentation to Emergency Department, compromising 5%-10% of all visits, and around a quarter are discharged with no particular diagnosis. Pyocolpos is one of those presentations that requires a thorough physical examination, including that of the external genitalia. A 3-year-old girl presented with recurrent history of abdominal pain and a recent history of fever with acute abdomen picture-like presentation, with difficulty voiding over the past few days. She was previously assessed for recurrent abdominal pain, without any identifiable etiology. Upon inspection for indwelling catheter insertion, absence of the vaginal introitus was noted with a bulging mass and an imperforate hymen. Pyocolpos was diagnosed and drained following hymenotomy. Pyocolpos is a rare complication of hydrocolpos. Enlarged vagina causes extrinsic compression to nearby structures, such as the bladder trigone and ureters, causing hydronephrosis, hydroureter, and other sequel including acute kidney injury and urosepsis. An imperforate hymen must be considered in the differential for chronic and recurrent abdominal pain, and can be easily identified by a thorough physical examination, including that of the external genitalia, which is a must in today's every medical practice.

BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has generated an infodemic, an overabundance of online and offline information. In this context, accurate information as well as misinformation and disinformation about the links between nutrition and COVID-19 have circulated on Twitter since the onset of the pandemic. ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to compare tweets on nutrition in times of COVID-19 published by 2 groups, namely, a preidentified group of dietitians and a group of general users of Twitter, in terms of themes, content accuracy, use of behavior change factors, and user engagement, in order to contrast their information sharing behaviors during the pandemic. MethodsPublic English-language tweets published between December 31, 2019, and December 31, 2020, by 625 dietitians from Canada and the United States, and Twitter users were collected using hashtags and keywords related to nutrition and COVID-19. After filtration, tweets were coded against an original codebook of themes and the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) for identifying behavior change factors, and were compared to reliable nutritional recommendations pertaining to COVID-19. The numbers of likes, replies, and retweets per tweet were also collected to determine user engagement. ResultsIn total, 2886 tweets (dietitians, n=1417; public, n=1469) were included in the analyses. Differences in frequency between groups were found in 11 out of 15 themes. Grocery (271/1417, 19.1%), and diets and dietary patterns (n=507, 34.5%) were the most frequently addressed themes by dietitians and the public, respectively. For 9 out of 14 TDF domains, there were differences in the frequency of usage between groups. “Skills” was the most used domain by both groups, although they used it in different proportions (dietitians: 612/1417, 43.2% vs public: 529/1469, 36.0%; P

There is growing interest in assessing local food systems to guide efforts toward sustainability and aligning these assessments with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, the complexity of portraying local food systems poses numerous challenges for local communities, and automated text analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) offer promising solutions. This study tested the use of an automated textual analysis to assess the alignment of the Mauricie region's food system in Quebec, Canada, with the SDGs. PHYTOCHEMICALS , *HIGH performance liquid chromatography , *COLE crops , *GALLIC acid , *CHLOROGENIC acid , *LIQUID analysis - Abstract
This study investigated the phytochemical composition and in vitro biological activities of leaf and seed extracts of Brassica oleracea var. elongata. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, phenols, tannins, saponins, and reducing sugars in both methanolic and aqueous extracts. Quantitative analysis showed that methanolic extracts contained higher levels of polyphenols and flavonoids than aqueous extracts, with methanolic seed extract exhibiting the highest polyphenol content (4.399±0.14 mg GAEq/g). High-performance liquid chromatography analysis identified significant concentrations of gallic acid (1180.20 µg/100 mg), chlorogenic acid (8323.831 µg/g), and quercetin (5512.58±0.02 µg/100 mg) in extracts. Antioxidant activity assays demonstrated potent effects, with methanolic leaf extract showing the strongest 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity (IC50 : 0.058±0.001 mg/mL) and aqueous leaf extract exhibiting the highest activity in the β -carotene bleaching method (EC50 : 0.049±0.001 mg/mL). Ultraviolet protection potential was assessed, revealing promising sun protection factor (SPF) values of all extracts, with methanolic seed extract having the highest SPF of 45.58±10. Evaluation of anti-inflammatory activity revealed the aqueous leaf extract's remarkable inhibition of inflammation (94.8%). Antimicrobial assays showed notable antibacterial effects, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria. These findings underscore the therapeutic potential of Brassica oleracea extracts and warrant further exploration into their applications in both pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Medicine ,Science - Abstract
Governments can use social media platforms such as Twitter to disseminate health information to the public, as evidenced during the COVID-19 pandemic [Pershad (2018)]. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of Canadian government and public health officials' use of Twitter as a dissemination platform during the pandemic and to explore the public's engagement with and sentiment towards these messages. We examined the account data of 93 Canadian public health and government officials during the first wave of the pandemic in Canada (December 31, 2019 August 31, 2020). Our objectives were to: 1) determine the engagement rates of the public with Canadian federal and provincial/territorial governments and public health officials' Twitter posts; 2) conduct a hashtag trend analysis to explore the Canadian public's discourse related to the pandemic during this period; 3) provide insights on the public's reaction to Canadian authorities' tweets through sentiment analysis. To address these objectives, we extracted Twitter posts, replies, and associated metadata available during the study period in both English and French. Our results show that the public demonstrated increased engagement with federal officials' Twitter accounts as compared to provincial/territorial accounts. For the hashtag trends analysis of the public discourse during the first wave of the pandemic, we observed a topic shift in the Canadian public discourse over time between the period prior to the first wave and the first wave of the pandemic. Additionally, we identified 11 sentiments expressed by the public when reacting to Canadian authorities' tweets. This study illustrates the potential to leverage social media to understand public discourse during a pandemic. We suggest that routine analyses of such data by governments can provide governments and public health officials with real-time data on public sentiments during a public health emergency. These data can be used to better disseminate key messages to the public.

Arterial stenosis is a common cardiovascular disease that restricts blood flow. A stenotic blood vessel creates tangent stress pressure, which lessens the arterial side and causes an aneurysm. The primary purpose of this study is to investigate blood flowing via an inclination pipe with stricture and expansion after stricture (widening) underneath the influence of a constant incompressible Casson liquid flowing with the magnetism field. The relations for surface shearing stress, pressure drop, flow resistance, and velocity are calculated analytically by applying a mild stenosis approximation. The effect of different physical characteristics on liquid impedance to flowing, velocity, and surface shearing stress are studied. With a non-Newtonian aspect of the Casson liquid, the surface shearing stress declines, and an impedance upturn. Side resistivity and shear-stress increase with the elevations of stricture, whilst together decreasing with a dilatation height.

This work aims to study the effect of different host species on physicochemical and biological properties of the Saharan parasitic plant Cistanche violacea that grows parasitized on two hosts Haloxylon articulatum and a Limonistrum guyonianum in the eastern desert of Algeria. The physicochemical characteristics of C. violcea showed an affinity for the results of both ash and pH and it showed a difference in the amount content of carbohydrates and the value of electrical conductivity. For the content of polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins and tannins the highest values were recorded in C. violcea, which was parasitized on H. articulatum. While, the results of HPLC have identified nine compounds in the crude extracts of the parasitic plants and their hosts in different concentrations. In antioxidant activity, the tannin and anthocyanin extracts from C. violcea parasitized on H. articulatum showed better inhibition of DPPH• radical and best the total antioxidant capacity respectively, but the tannins extract of C. violcea parasitized on L. guyonianum given best reducing power capacity. In SPF assay by UV-Vis spectrophotometry method, all extracts of the parasitic plants showed mild to moderate sun protection. Statically the host variation did not show any significant differences in the physicochemical analysis and the quantitative and qualitative total content of polyphenols. While the significant differences appeared through the antioxidant activity tests, especially between C. violcea and its host H. articulatum, between C. violacea and its host H. articulatum and between the two samples of parasitic plants.

Nonlinear propagation of monotonic and oscillatory magnetosonic shock waves in a magnetized degenerate quantum plasma consisting of ions and spin 1/2 nonrelativistic degenerate electrons is examined. The well-known reductive perturbation analysis is applied to obtain a Korteweg–de Vries–Burgers equation (KdVBE). The dissipative system of coupled nonlinear, ordinary, differential equations and the equilibrium points are hereby discussed on the basis of the bifurcation analysis. The nonlinear behaviour of shock wave structures is numerically investigated under the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. Numerical simulations show that the behaviour of monotonic and oscillatory magnetosonic shock waves depends essentially on the effects of quantum statistics and the spin magnetization energy. The present results may be helpful for an in-depth understanding of the nonlinear propagation of magnetosonic waves in magnetized degenerate quantum plasma, which occur in the dense astrophysical objects.
