Abstract Background Klebsiella pneumoniae is the most commonly encountered pathogen in clinical practice. Widespread use of broad-spectrum antibiotics has led to the current global dissemination of carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae, which poses a significant threat to antibacterial treatment efficacy and public health. Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) have been identified as carriers capable of facilitating the transfer of virulence and resistance genes. However, the role of OMVs in carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae under external pressures such as antibiotic and phage treatments remains unclear. Methods To isolate and purify OMVs under the pressure of phages and tigecycline, we subjected K. pneumoniae 0692 harboring plasmid-mediated bla NDM-1 and bla KPC-2 genes to density gradient separation. The double-layer plate method was used to isolate MJ1, which efficiently lysed K. pneumoniae 0692 cells. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to characterize the isolated phages and extract OMV groups for relevant morphological identification. Determination of protein content of each OMV group was conducted through bicinchoninic acid assay (BCA) and proteomic analysis. Results K. pneumoniae 0692 released OMVs in response to different environmental stimuli, which were characterized through TEM as having the typical structure and particle size of OMVs. Phage or tigecycline treatment alone resulted in a slight increase in the mean protein concentration of OMVs secreted by K. pneumoniae 0692 compared to that in the untreated group. However, when phage treatment was combined with tigecycline, there was a significant reduction in the average protein concentration of OMVs compared to tigecycline treatment alone. Proteomics showed that OMVs encapsulated numerous functional proteins and that under different external stresses of phages and tigecycline, the proteins carried by K. pneumoniae 0692-derived OMVs were significantly upregulated or downregulated compared with those in the untreated group. Conclusions This study confirmed the ability of OMVs to carry abundant proteins and highlighted the important role of OMV-associated proteins in bacterial responses to phages and tigecycline, representing an important advancement in microbial resistance research.

This study aimed to explore the effects of different nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium ratios on the yield and nutritional quality of greenhouse tomatoes under a water and fertilizer integration model. Greenhouse tomatoes were used as the research object, and the “3414” fertilizer trial design was employed to assess tomato growth, yield, quality, and soil indicators across various treatment combinations. The goal was to determine the optimal fertilization scheme and recommend appropriate fertilizer quantities for tomato cultivation and production. The results revealed that different fertilizer ratios significantly affected both the quality and yield of tomatoes. Overall, the tomato yield tended to increase with higher fertilization amounts, with potassium exhibiting the most pronounced effect on yield increase, followed by phosphorus and nitrogen. The comprehensive analysis of principal components indicated that the N2P2K1 treatment yielded the highest nutritional quality and yield. Therefore, the best fertilization combination identified in this study consisted of nitrogen fertilizer at 197.28 kg hm−2, phosphorus fertilizer at 88.75 kg hm−2, and potassium fertilizer at 229.80 kg hm−2. These findings provided the scientific basis for optimizing fertilization practices in greenhouse tomato cultivation and production in the Jilin Province.

Bladder diverticulum cancer is a malignant tumor growing in the bladder diverticulum. Its incidence rate is low, and it is common in elderly men. The main clinical symptom is painless gross hematuria. Bladder diverticulum cancer often occurs in acquired bladder diverticula and is more prone to infiltrating the surrounding area than other bladder tumors. In this article, we report a case of bladder diverticulum cancer clinically manifested as a mass in the lower left abdomen with gross hematuria. CT and MR examinations showed a mass on the left side of the pelvic cavity, locally connected to the bladder wall, and suspected to originate from the bladder. Surgery and pathology confirmed the diagnosis as bladder diverticulum cancer. Enhanced CT and MR are the recommended non-invasive imaging examinations for bladder diverticulum cancer that help clarify its location and tumor staging. CT urography has a great value in differential diagnosis. In this article, we aimed to summarize the clinical manifestations, imaging features, differential diagnosis, and treatment methods of bladder diverticulum cancer to improve our understanding of the disease and help make accurate diagnosis through imaging examination.

Ion exchange is a promising synthetic method for alleviating severe cation mixing in traditional layered oxide materials for lithium-ion batteries, leading to enhanced structural stability. However, the underlying mechanisms of ion exchange are still not fully understood. Such a fundamental study of the ion-exchange mechanism is needed for achieving the controllable synthesis of layered oxides with a stable structure. Herein, we thoroughly unearth the underlying mechanism that triggers the ion exchange of Ni-rich materials in aqueous solutions by examining time-resolved structural evolution combined with theoretical calculations. Our results reveal that the reaction pathway of ion exchange can be divided into two steps: protonation and lithiation. The proton is the key to achieving charge balance in the ion exchange process, as revealed by X-ray adsorption spectroscopy and inductive coupled plasma analysis. In addition, the intermediate product shows high lattice distortion during ion exchange, but it ends up with a most stable product with high lattice energy. Such apparent discrepancies in lattice energy between materials before and after ion exchange emphasize the importance of synthetic design in structural stability. This work provides new insights into the ion-exchange synthesis of Ni-rich oxide materials, which advances the development of cathode materials for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.

BackgroundThe associations between platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and cirrhosis are unclear, and there are still no effective means for diagnosing or monitoring disease progression.MethodsData from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys were collected for analysis. Logistic regression and restricted cubic splines were used to evaluate the associations between PLR and NAFLD and cirrhosis in different populations. The Area Under Curve Receiver Operating Characteristic (AUCROC) was used to distinguish the models. Threshold analysis was performed by constructing a two-piecewise linear regression. Correlation analysis was performed separately on either side of the inflection point.ResultsA total of 5724 adults were included. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the PLR was associated with NAFLD and cirrhosis (AUCROC of NAFLD: 0.803; AUCROC of cirrhosis: 0.851). The AUCROC of the PLR for predicting NAFLD incidence was 0.762 in the diabetic population and 0.804 in the nondiabetic population. High PLR predicted cirrhosis in the diabetic population, with an AUCROC of 0.824, whereas a high PLR was not associated with cirrhosis in the nondiabetic population. The restricted cubic spline revealed a negative linear correlation between the PLR and NAFLD incidence. The inflection point of the PLR for NAFLD was 180.74. A PLR ≤180.74 was statistically significant (odds ratio=0.997, 95% confidence interval=0.995-0.999). In the NAFLD population, the PLR was negatively correlated with cirrhosis at a PLR ≤130.5 (odds ratio=0.987, 95% confidence interval=0.977-0.996) and positively correlated with cirrhosis at a PLR > 130.5 (odds ratio=1.006, 95% confidence interval=1.001-1.012).ConclusionsThe PLR and NAFLD were negatively correlated in the U.S. population. The PLR had a U-shaped relationship with cirrhosis in the NAFLD population. The PLR has potential value in monitoring NAFLD patient progression to cirrhosis.

Abstract Current dehazing networks usually only learn haze features in a single‐image colour space and often suffer from uneven dehazing, colour, and edge degradation when confronted with different scales of ground objects in the depth space of the scene. The authors propose a multimodal feature fusion image dehazing method with scene depth prior based on a decoder–encoder backbone network. The multimodal feature fusion module was first designed. In this module, affine transformation and polarized self‐attention mechanism are used to realize the fusion of image colour and depth prior feature, to improve the representation ability of the model for different scale ground haze feature in‐depth space. Then, the feature enhancement module (FEM) is added, and deformable convolution and difference convolution methods are used to enhance the representation ability of the model for the geometric and texture feature of the ground objects. The publicly available dehazing datasets are used for comparison and ablation experiments. The results show that compared with the existing classical dehazing networks, the peak signal‐to‐noise ratio (PSNR) and SSIM of the authors’ proposed method have been significantly improved, have a more uniform dehazing effect in different depth spaces, and maintain the colour and edge details of the ground objects very well.

Objectives: To evaluate radiation exposure, image quality, and diagnostic performance of coronary CT angiography (CCTA) using the invasive coronary angiography (ICA) as the reference standard in patients with irregular heart rhythm on a 0.25 s rotation time, 16 cm coverage, single-beat, CT scanner with AI-assisted motion correction. Methods: CCTA data-sheets of 427 patients using a CT scanner with an ECG monitoring system and motion correction algorithm were collected retrospectively. All the patients were divided into two groups: regular heart rhythm (357 patients) and irregular heart rhythm (70 patients). 22 patients in irregular heart rhythm underwent ICA. Image quality and effective dose in both groups were evaluated and compared. Image quality was evaluated on 5-point scales. The diagnostic performance of CCTA in irregular heart rhythm group was compared with the results of ICA. Results: The image quality in both groups was similar (4.34 ± 0.47 vs 4.37 ± 0.48, p > 0.05). No significant difference was observed in effective dose between two groups (2.7 ± 0.7 vs 2.9 ± 1.3, p > 0.05). The diagnostic accuracy was 90.91% in a patient-based analysis, 96.97% in a vessel-based analysis, and 98.61% in a segment-based analysis. In irregular heart rhythm group, gender was an important factor affecting the number of CCTA scans in a single examination and the radiation dose exposed to the patient. Conclusions: For patients with irregular heart rhythm, a CT scanner with an ECG monitoring system and motion correction algorithm can not only reduce the radiation dose to the same level as patients with normal heart rhythms, but also ensure that the images with high diagnostic accuracy.

ABSTRACTAvian influenza viruses continue to present challenges to animal and human health. Viruses bearing the hemagglutinin (HA) gene of the H5 subtype and H7 subtype have caused 2634 human cases around the world, including more than 1000 deaths. These viruses have caused numerous disease outbreaks in wild birds and domestic poultry, and are responsible for the loss of at least 422 million domestic birds since 2005. The H5 influenza viruses are spread by migratory wild birds and have caused three waves of influenza outbreaks across multiple continents, and the third wave that started in 2020 is ongoing. Many countries in Europe and North America control highly pathogenic avian influenza by culling alone, whereas some countries, including China, have adopted a “cull plus vaccination” strategy. As the largest poultry-producing country in the world, China lost relatively few poultry during the three waves of global H5 avian influenza outbreaks, and nearly eliminated the pervasive H7N9 viruses that emerged in 2013. In this review, we briefly summarize the damages the H5 and H7 influenza viruses have caused to the global poultry industry and public health, analyze the origin, evolution, and spread of the H5 viruses that caused the waves, and discuss how and why the vaccination strategy in China has been a success. Given that the H5N1 viruses are widely circulating in wild birds and causing problems in domestic poultry around the world, we recommend that any unnecessary obstacles to vaccination strategies should be removed immediately and forever.

Abstract Objective To investigate the incidence of and risk factors associated with negative postoperative behavioral changes (NPOBCs) in children undergoing painless gastroscopy. Methods Inclusion criteria: ASA I–II and outpatients aged 6–12 years undergoing painless gastroscopy. Exclusion criteria: history of surgery or anesthesia, children with developmental or intellectual abnormalities, refusal to participate, preoperative abdominal pain score > 3 points, history of chronic abdominal pain of > 3 months duration, and serious intraoperative complications. On the 1st, 14th, and 30th day after the gastroscopy, the Post Hospitalization Behavior Questionnaire for Ambulatory Surgery (PHBQ-AS) was used to assess NPOBCs in children. Results A total of 1,670 children were included in this prospective observational cohort study. The incidence rates of NPOBCs were 14.13%, 4.55%, and 2.14% on the 1st, 14th, and 30th day after gastroscopy, respectively. The risk factors for the first day were female sex (OR 1.34, 95% CI 1.00–1.79), parental anxiety (OR 2.23, 95% CI 1.75–3.12), and severe anxiety in children (OR 2.83, 95% CI 1.96–4.07). The risk factors on the 14th day were parental anxiety (OR 3.71, 95% CI 2.19–6.29), a parental educational level above high school (OR 1.65, 95% CI 1.00–2.70), and severe anxiety in children (OR 11.87, 95% CI 5.85–24.07). The risk factors on the 30th day were female sex (OR 2.99, 95% CI 1.41–6.34), being an only child (OR 4.42, 95% CI 2.18–8.95), a parental educational level above high school (OR 2.66, 95% CI 1.27 NPOBCs 5.56), and severe anxiety in children (OR 6.84, 95% CI 2.84–16.49). Conclusion In children undergoing painless gastroscopy, the incidence rates of NPOBCs on the 1st, 14th, and 30th day were 14.13%, 4.55%, and 2.14%, respectively. The risk factors for NPOBCs were severe anxiety in children, female sex, parental anxiety, and a parental educational level above high school. In particular, severe preoperative anxiety in children was a persistent risk factor for NPOBCs within 30 days.

This paper presents an efficient integrated multidisciplinary design optimization method for shaping a high-pressure cooling turbine blade in aero engines. This approach utilizes a novel regression/interpolation combination surrogate model (R/ICSM), facilitating comprehensive design optimization through collaborative coupling feature parameterization modeling and numerical simulation analysis across various disciplines. The optimized blade adjusts the load distribution on its surface, effectively eliminating flow separation at the tip and trailing edge. Notably, the optimized blade achieves a 0.69% increase in isentropic efficiency while satisfying aerodynamic, strength, and structural constraints. This highlights the effectiveness and progressiveness of the multidisciplinary design optimization method for a cooling turbine blade based on the R/ICSM in enhancing overall performance. It offers a novel and feasible approach for turbine blade design optimization and provides valuable insights for future research and applications.

A significant weakness of many organic and inorganic aerogels is their poor mechanical behaviour, representing a great impediment to their application. For example, polymer aerogels generally have higher ductility than silica aerogels, but their elastic modulus is considered too low. Herein, we developed extremely low loading (3 and a thermal conductivity of only 0.035 W/m·K, it outperforms many commercial insulators and foams. As compared to a pure PVA polymer aerogel, a 170% increase in storage modulus is obtained by adding only 0.6 wt% GO nanosheets. The nanocomposite aerogel demonstrates strong fire resistance, with a 50% increase in burning time and little smoke discharge. After surface modification with 1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane, the aerogel demonstrates water resistance, which is suitable for outdoor applications in which it would be exposed to precipitation. Our research demonstrates a new pathway for considerable improvement in the performance and application of polymer aerogels.

Objective: To establish a method to detect four genes: qnrS, aac(6')-Ib-cr, oqxA, oqxB, among the plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes carried by foodborne Salmonella by applying a novel liquid-phase chip technique. Methods: For the four PMQR genes carried by foodborne Salmonella: qnrS, aac(6')-Ib-cr, oqxA, and oqxB, corresponding primers and microspheres were designed, and liquid-phase microarray technology was used to perform specificity experiments on seven standard strains. Reproducibility and sensitivity experiments were performed on four foodborne Salmonella strains containing one PMQR gene each. 71 quinolone resistant Salmonella strains from foodborne risk monitoring were tested, and a comparison experiment with ordinary PCR was carried out. Results: A method for the detection of four PMQR genes, qnrS, aac(6')-Ib-cr, oqxA and oqxB, in foodborne Salmonella was successfully established by liquid-phase microarray technology. The LOD (limit of detection) of qnrS, aac(6')-Ib-cr, oqxA and oqxB were 5, 25, 10 and 10 CFU/mL respectively. The median fluorescence values (MFI) of all positive determinations were ≥5 times those of the negative control group. The coefficients of variation (CV) of the repeatability experiments were less than 5%. In the specificity experiments, all quinolone resistant Salmonella strains were detected, and no cross-reactivity with other non-target bacteria was observed. The detection rate of qnrS, aac(6')-Ib-cr, oqxA and oqxB were 29.6% (21/71), 35.2% (25/71), 28.2% (20/71), 23.9% (17/71) respectively. The coincidence rate between the liquid chip technology and PCR was 100%. Conclusion: The experimentally established liquid-phase chip technique for the detection of foodborne Salmonella plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance genes qnrS, aac(6')-Ib-cr, oqxA and oqxB is characterized by high sensitivity, good specificity, stability, and accurate results, which can provide technical support for the detection of foodborne Salmonella PMQR genes and the monitoring of drug resistance.

BackgroundHPV infection is closely related to the occurrence of cervical cancer and has an important adverse effect on human life and health. This study used data from the NHANES 2003–2016 to investigate the relationship between PIR and HPV infection status among Americans aged 20 and older.MethodsThe data for this cross-sectional investigation came from the 2003–2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), which included 9580 women who were 20 years of age or older. The linear and nonlinear correlations between PIR and the presence of HPV infection were investigated using multiple linear regression and smooth curve fitting. The stability of the relationship across groups was examined using subgroup analysis and interaction tests.ResultsThere were 2232 impoverished homes and 2543 rich households among the 9580 adult participants aged 20 and above. PIR (ratio of income to poverty) was found to be significantly inversely related to the presence of HPV infection [0.91 (0.89, 0.94)] after adjusting for all other covariates, and the trend persisted even after categorizing PIR into high- and low-income groups (PIR>4 and PIR

Vitrimer composites with bond- exchange reactions offer significant advantages in terms of repair and recyclability. The mechanical properties of such composites can be designed by modifying the epoxy/anhydride ratio, thus allowing their interface properties to be customised. In this study, the mode-I interfacial fracture properties of vitrimer carbon fibre composites with different epoxy/anhydride ratios are investigated experimentally and numerically. The results show that composites with an epoxy/anhydride group ratio of 1:0.5 exhibit the highest fracture toughness, with a maximum value of 1.6 mJ/mm2. Meanwhile, the analysis of the composites’ microscopic fracture morphology indicates their good bonding performance with carbon fibres. Subsequently, a multiscale numerical approach is developed to simulate the mode-I fracture response of composite laminates and establish a trilinear cohesive model to simulate the macroscopic interfacial fracture behaviour. In this approach, a matrix elastic–plastic constitutive model and the J-integral method are applied to obtain the stress distribution in the fibre-bridging phase via a double cantilever beam fracture test. The macroscopic fracture behaviour obtained via simulation is consistent with the experimental results. Therefore, the proposed multiscale numerical simulation method, which correlates the matrix properties with macroscopic fracture parameters, allows the interlaminar properties of composites with novel matrices to be evaluated effectively.

A mechanically strong binder with polar functional groups could overcome the dilemma of the large volume change during charge/discharge processes and poor cyclability of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). In this work, for the first time, we report the use of poly(thiourea triethylene glycol) (PTTG) as a multifunctional binder for sulfur cathodes to enhance the performance of LSBs. As expected, the PTTG binder facilitates the high performance and stability delivered by the Sulfur-PTTG cathode, including a higher reversible capacity of 825 mAh g−1 at 0.2 C after 80 cycles, a lower capacity fading (0.123% per cycle) over 350 cycles at 0.5 C, a higher areal capacity of 2.5 mAh cm−2 at 0.25 mA cm−2, and better rate capability of 587 mAh g−1 at 2 C. Such superior electrochemical performances could be attributed to PTTG's strong chemical adsorption towards polysulfides which may avoid the lithium polysulfide shuttle effect and excellent mechanical characteristics which prevents electrode collapse during cycling and allows the Sulfur-PTTG electrode to maintain robust electron and ion migration pathways for accelerated redox reaction kinetics.

H5N1 avian influenza viruses bearing the clade 2.3.4.4b hemagglutinin gene have been widely circulating in wild birds and are responsible for the loss of over 70 million domestic poultry in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America since October 2020. During our routine surveillance, 13 H5N1 viruses were isolated from 26,767 wild bird and poultry samples that were collected between September 2021 and March 2022 in China. To investigate the origin of these Chinese isolates and understand their genetic relationship with the globally circulating H5N1 viruses, we performed a detailed phylogenic analysis of 233 representative H5N1 strains that were isolated from 28 countries. We found that, after they emerged in the Netherlands, the H5N1 viruses encountered complicated gene exchange with different viruses circulating in wild birds and formed 16 genotypes. Genotype one (G1) was predominant, being detected in 22 countries, whereas all other genotypes were only detected in one or two continents. H5N1 viruses of four genotypes (G1, G7, G9, and G10) were detected in China; three of these genotypes have been previously reported in other countries. The H5N1 viruses detected in China replicated in mice, with pathogenicity varying among strains; the G1 virus was highly lethal in mice. Moreover, we found that these viruses were antigenically similar to and well matched with the H5-Re14 vaccine strain currently used in China. Our study reveals the overall picture of H5N1 virus evolution and provides insights for the control of these viruses.

The globally circulating H5N8 avian influenza viruses bearing the clade 2.3.4.4b hemagglutinin (HA) gene are responsible for the loss of more than 33 million domestic poultry since January 2020. Moreover, the H5N8 viruses have reassorted with other avian influenza viruses and formed H5N1, H5N2, H5N3, H5N4, and H5N5 viruses in Europe, Africa, and North America. In this study, we analyzed 15 H5N6 viruses isolated from poultry and seven H5N6 viruses isolated from humans, and found these viruses formed seven different genotypes by deriving the clade 2.3.4.4b HA gene of H5N8 viruses, the neuraminidase of domestic duck H5N6 viruses, and internal genes of different viruses that previously circulated in domestic ducks and wild birds in China. Two of these genotypes (genotype 3 and genotype 6) have caused human infections in multiple provinces. The H5N6 viruses isolated from poultry have distinct pathotypes in mice; some of them replicate systemically and are highly lethal in mice. Although these viruses exclusively bind to avian-type receptors, it is worrisome that they may obtain key mutations that would increase their affinity for human-type receptors during replication in humans. Our study indicates that the novel H5N6 reassortants bearing the clade 2.3.4.4b HA gene of H5N8 viruses were generated through reassortment in domestic ducks and may have spread across a wide area of China, thereby posing a new challenge to the poultry industry and human health. Our findings emphasize the importance of careful monitoring, evaluation, and control of the H5N6 viruses circulating in nature.

The surveillance of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) as the end point of SARS-CoV-2 shed from infected people arise a speculation on transmission of this virus of concern from WWTP in epidemic period. To this end, the present study was developed to comprehensively investigate the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in raw wastewater, effluent and air inhaled by workers and employee in the largest WWTP in Tehran for one-year study period. The monthly raw wastewater, effluent and air samples of WWTP were taken and the SARS-CoV-2 RNA were detected using QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit and real-time RT-PCR assay. According to results, the speculation on the presence of SARS-CoV-2 was proved in WWTP by detection this virus in raw wastewater. However, no SARS-CoV-2 was found in both effluent and air of WWTP; this presents the low or no infection for workers and employee in WWTP. Furthermore, further research are needed for detection the SARS-CoV-2 in solid and biomass produced from WWTP processes due to flaks formation, followed by sedimentation in order to better understand the wastewater-based epidemiology and preventive measurement for other epidemics probably encountered in the future.

ABSTRACTHuman infections with the H7N9 influenza virus have been eliminated in China through vaccination of poultry; however, the H7N9 virus has not yet been eradicated from poultry. Carefully analysis of H7N9 viruses in poultry that have sub-optimal immunity may provide a unique opportunity to witness the evolution of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in the context of vaccination. Between January 2020 and June 2023, we isolated 16 H7N9 viruses from samples we collected during surveillance and samples that were sent to us for disease diagnosis. Genetic analysis indicated that these viruses belonged to a single genotype previously detected in poultry. Antigenic analysis indicated that 12 of the 16 viruses were antigenically close to the H7-Re4 vaccine virus that has been used since January 2022, and the other four viruses showed reduced reactivity with the vaccine. Animal studies indicated that all 16 viruses were nonlethal in mice, and four of six viruses showed reduced virulence in chickens upon intranasally inoculation. Importantly, the H7N9 viruses detected in this study exclusively bound to the avian-type receptors, having lost the capacity to bind to human-type receptors. Our study shows that vaccination slows the evolution of H7N9 virus by preventing its reassortment with other viruses and eliminates a harmful characteristic of H7N9 virus, namely its ability to bind to human-type receptors.

ABSTRACTH5N1 avian influenza viruses bearing the clade 2.3.2.1 hemagglutinin (HA) gene have been widely detected in birds and poultry in several countries. During our routine surveillance, we isolated 28 H5N1 viruses between January 2017 and October 2020. To investigate the genetic relationship of the globally circulating H5N1 viruses and the biological properties of those detected in China, we performed a detailed phylogenic analysis of 274 representative H5N1 strains and analyzed the antigenic properties, receptor-binding preference, and virulence in mice of the H5N1 viruses isolated in China. The phylogenic analysis indicated that the HA genes of the 274 viruses belonged to six subclades, namely clades 2.3.2.1a to 2.3.2.1f; these viruses acquired gene mutations and underwent complicated reassortment to form 58 genotypes, with G43 being the dominant genotype detected in eight Asian and African countries. The 28 H5N1 viruses detected in this study carried the HA of clade 2.3.2.1c (two strains), 2.3.2.1d (three strains), or 2.3.2.1f (23 strains), and formed eight genotypes. These viruses were antigenically well-matched with the H5-Re12 vaccine strain used in China. Animal studies showed that the pathogenicity of the H5N1 viruses ranged from non-lethal to highly lethal in mice. Moreover, the viruses exclusively bound to avian-type receptors and have not acquired the ability to bind to human-type receptors. Our study reveals the overall picture of the evolution of clade 2.3.2.1 H5N1 viruses and provides insights into the control of these viruses.

Abstract Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is one of the most universal types of cancer all over the world and its morbidity continues to rise year by year. Growing evidence has demonstrated that endoplasmic reticulum stress is highly activated in cancer cells and plays a key role in regulating the fate of cancer cells. However, the role and mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum stress in lung adenocarcinoma genesis and development remains unclear. In this research, we developed a prognostic model to predict the overall survival of patients with LUAD utilizing endoplasmic reticulum stress-related genes and screened out potential small molecular compounds, which could assist the clinician in making accurate decisions and better treat LUAD patients. Firstly, we downloaded 419 endoplasmic reticulum stress-related genes (ERSRGs) from Molecular Signatures Database (MSigDB). Secondly, we obtained information about the transcriptome profiling and corresponding clinical data of 59 normal samples and 535 lung adenocarcinoma samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Next, we used the DESeq2 package to identify differentially expressed genes related to endoplasmic reticulum stress. We performed univariate Cox, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and multivariate Cox regression analysis to establish a prognostic model for LUAD patients based on ERSRGs. Then, we carried out univariate and multivariate independent prognostic analysis of endoplasmic reticulum stress-related gene (ERSRG) score and some clinical traits of lung adenocarcinoma. Additionally, we developed a clinically applicable nomogram for predicting survival for LUAD patients over one, three, and five years. Moreover, we carried out a drug sensitivity analysis to identify novel small molecule compounds for LUAD treatment. Finally, we examined the tumor microenvironment (TME) and immune cell infiltrating analysis to explore the interactions between immune and cancer cells. 142 differentially expressed ERSRGs were identified by using the DESeq2 package. A prognostic model was built based on 7 differentially expressed ERSRGs after performing univariate Cox regression, LASSO regression, and multivariate Cox regression analysis. According to the results of univariate and multivariate independent prognostic analysis, we found ERSRG score can be used as an independent prognostic maker. Using the Kaplan–Meier curves, we found low-risk patients had higher survival probability than high-risk patients in both training set and test set. A nomogram was drawn to predict 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival probability. The calibration curves explained good performance of the model for the prediction of survival. Phenformin, OSU-03012, GSK-650394 and KIN001-135 were identified as the drugs most likely to provide important information to clinicians about the treatment of LUAD patients. A prognostic prediction model was established based on 7 differentially expressed ERSRGs (PDX1, IGFBP1, DDIT4, PPP1R3G, CFTR, DERL3 and NUPR1), which could effectively predict the prognosis of LUAD patients and give a reference for clinical doctors to help LUAD patients to make better treatment tactics. Based on the 4 small molecule compounds (Phenformin, OSU-03012, GSK-650394 and KIN001-135) we discovered, targeting endoplasmic reticulum stress-related genes may also be a therapeutic approach for LUAD patients.

Hemophilia is a hereditary bleeding disorder where the only effective treatment is factor replacement therapy. The main contradiction of hemophilia in China is the contradiction between the increasing demand for quality of life of hemophilia patients and insufficient medical insurance, medical treatment and medicine. Expensive treatment costs are the main reason for patients to 'be impoverished due to illness' and 'return to poverty due to illness'. This article analyzes the current status of the hemophilia aid system through the existing literature data and existing patient aid projects. Cooperation of social insurance, social relief and high-quality medical services is critical to a complete hemophilia comprehensive medical aid system, so that hemophilia patients can receive standardized diagnosis and treatment, and try to achieve the close quality of life as normal.

Abstract Background Liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) ranks sixth among the most common types of cancer with a high mortality rate. Cuproptosis is a newly discovered type of cell death in tumor, which is characterized by accumulation of intracellular copper leading to the aggregation of mitochondrial lipoproteins and destabilization of proteins. Thus, understanding the exact effects of cuproptosis-related genes in LIHC and determining their prognosticvalue is critical. However, the prognostic model of LIHC based on cuproptosis-related genes has not been reported. Methods Firstly, we downloaded transcriptome data and clinical information of LIHC patients from TCGA and GEO (GSE76427), respectively. We then extracted the expression of cuproptosis-related genes and established a prognostic model by lasso cox regression analysis. Afterwards, the prediction performance of the model was evaluated by Kaplan–Meier survival analysis and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). Then, the prognostic model and the expression levels of the three genes were validated using the dataset from GEO. Subsequently, we divided LIHC patients into two subtypes by non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) classification and performed survival analysis. We constructed a Sankey plot linking different subtypes and prognostic models. Next, we calculate the drug sensitivity of each sample from patients in the high-risk group and low-risk group by the R package pRRophetic. Finally, we verified the function of LIPT1 in LIHC. Results Using lasso cox regression analysis, we developed a prognostic risk model based on three cuproptosis-related genes (GCSH, LIPT1 and CDKN2A). Both in the training and in the test sets, the overall survival (OS) of LIHC patients in the low-risk group was significantly longer than that in the high-risk group. By performing NMF cluster, we identified two molecular subtypes of LIHC (C1 and C2), with C1 subtype having significantly longer OS and PFS than C2 subtype. The ROC analysis indicated that our model had a precisely predictive capacity for patients with LIHC. The multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that the risk score is an independent predictor. Subsequently, we identified 71 compounds with IC50 values that differed between the high-risk and low-risk groups. Finally, we determined that knockdown of LIPT1 gene expression inhibited proliferation and invasion of hepatoma cells. Conclusion In this study, we developed a novel prognostic model for hepatocellular carcinoma based on cuproptosis-related genes that can effectively predict the prognosis of LIHC patients. The model may be helpful for clinicians to make clinical decisions for patients with LIHC and provide valuable insights for individualized treatment. Two distinct subtypes of LIHC were identified based on cuproptosis-related genes, with different prognosis and immune characteristics. In addition, we verified that LIPT1 may promote proliferation, invasion and migration of LIHC cells. LIPT1 might be a new potential target for therapy of LIHC.

Abstract Background Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract. Pyroptosis is a newly discovered programmed cell death that highly correlated with the prognosis of tumors. However, the prognostic value of pyroptosis in PAAD remains unclear. Methods A total of 178 pancreatic cancer PAAD samples and 167 normal samples were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) databases. The “DESeq2” R package was used to identify differntially expressed pyroptosis-related genes between normal pancreatic samples and PAAD samples. The prognostic model was established in TCGA cohort based on univariate Cox and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression analyses, which was validated in test set from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) cohort. Univariate independent prognostic analysis and multivariate independent prognostic analysis were used to determine whether the risk score can be used as an independent prognostic factor to predict the clinicopathological features of PAAD patients. A nomogram was used to predict the survival probability of PAAD patients, which could help in clinical decision-making. The R package "pRRophetic" was applied to calculate the drug sensitivity of each samples from high- and low-risk group. Tumor immune infiltration was investigated using an ESTIMATE algorithm. Finally, the pro‐tumor phenotype of GSDMC was explored in PANC-1 and CFPAC-1 cells. Result On the basis of univariate Cox and LASSO regression analyses, we constructed a risk model with identified five pyroptosis-related genes (IL18, CASP4, NLRP1, GSDMC, and NLRP2), which was validated in the test set. The PAAD samples were divided into high-risk and low-risk groups on the basis of the risk score's median. According to Kaplan Meier curve analysis, samples from high-risk groups had worse outcomes than those from low-risk groups. The time-dependent receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis revealed that the risk model could predict the prognosis of PAAD accurately. A nomogram accompanied by calibration curves was presented for predicting 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival in PAAD patients. More importantly, 4 small molecular compounds (A.443654, PD.173074, Epothilone. B, Lapatinib) were identified, which might be potential drugs for the treatment of PAAD patients. Finally, the depletion of GSDMC inhibits the proliferation, invasion, and migration of pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells. Conclusion In this study, we developed a pyroptosis-related prognostic model based on IL18, CASP4, NLRP1, NLRP2, and GSDMC , which may be helpful for clinicians to make clinical decisions for PAAD patients and provide valuable insights for individualized treatment. Our result suggest that GSDMC may promote the proliferation and migration of PAAD cell lines. These findings may provide new insights into the roles of pyroptosis-related genes in PAAD, and offer new therapeutic targets for the treatment of PAAD.

Previous experimental and computational results have confirmed that the thermal conductivity of a two-dimensional (2D) material can be considerably affected by strain. Numerous attention has been paid to explore the relevant mechanisms. However, the strain effects on the interfacial thermal conductance (ITC) of 2D heterostructure have attracted little attention. Herein, the non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations were conducted to the graphene/hexagonal boron nitride (GR/h-BN) heterostructure to investigate the strain effects on the ITC. Three types of strains were considered, i.e., tensile strain, compressive strain, and shear strain. The results indicate that the strain can adjust the ITC for the GR/h-BN heterostructure effectively, and the strain loading direction also influences the ITC. Generally, the tensile strain reduces the ITC of the heterostructure, in addition to the BN-C system at small tensile strain; both the compressive strain and shear strain increase the ITC, especially at a small strain. For the NB-C system, it is more sensitive to the strain loading direction and the yx shear strain of 0.06 is the most effective way to strengthen the ITC. Our results also show that the out-of-plane deformation weakens the in-plane vibration of atoms, leading to a reduction of the interfacial thermal energy transport.

Objective: The research is to explore the enzyme inhibition of Perilla crude extract, and to preliminarily elucidate the pharmacological substance basis of them on hyperglycemia, hyperuric acid and hyperlipidemia. Methods: The content of flavonoids and phenolic acid in UV extract was determined and showed the active components associated with enzyme inhibition. In vitro experiments, the inhibition of Perilla extracts on different enzyme activity was determined and the inhibitory activity was evaluated by IC50. Molecular docking was used to predict the targets of Perilla crude extract on pancreatic lipase and amylase inhibition. Results: Flavone content in the crude UV extract was 0.309 8 mg/mg, and the total phenolic acid content was 58.59 mg/g. The IC50 values of Perilla crude extractd for α-amylase, xanthine oxidase, pancreatic lipase and acetylcholinesterase were 0.273, 0.244, 0.347 and 0.018 mg/mL, respectively.Apigenin-5-O-β-D-glucosine, xyrhinin-7-diglucosotide, apigenin-7-glucosine, cannol-3-O-ruassin, rosemary acid, rutin and others were the effective active components of perilla crude extracts. Conclusion: The Perilla crude extracts all have certain inhibitory activities on four enzymes, and presents a dose-effect relationship.

Abstract Background Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is known as an important imaging indicator for cardiovascular risk stratification. The present study aimed to determine whether the EAT volume (EV) and mean EAT attenuation (mEA) measured by non-contrast routine chest CT (RCCT) could be more consistent with those measured by coronary CT angiography (CCTA) by adjusting the threshold of fatty attenuation. Methods In total, 83 subjects who simultaneously underwent CCTA and RCCT were enrolled. EV and mEA were quantified by CCTA using a threshold of (N30) (− 190 HU, − 30 HU) as a reference and measured by RCCT using thresholds of N30, N40 (− 190 HU, − 40 HU), and N45 (− 190 HU, − 45 HU). The correlation and agreement of EAT metrics between the two imaging modalities and differences between patients with coronary plaques (plaque ( +)) and without plaques (plaque ( −)) were analyzed. Abstract The wide‐spread proliferation of aqueous MXene‐based supercapacitor has been largely shadowed by the limited cell potential window (typically in the range of 0–0.6 V). To address this baffling issue, designing asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) is proposed as a rational strategy to enlarge the potential window (thus energy density) of individual cell in aqueous electrolytes. To this date, however, it still remains a great challenge to develop easy fabricating, 3D nanostructured, and pseudocapacitive cathode materials that can perfectly match with MXene anode materials. In this work, we propose a supramolecular strategy to construct conducting polymer hydrogel (CPH) with highly interconnected 3D nanostructures and large pseudocapacitance, which can finely match with 2D Ti3C2Tx. The as‐assembled CPH//Ti3C2Tx ASC with CPH cathode and MXene anode can operate in a broadened potential window of 1.15 V in aqueous PVA/H2SO4 gel electrolyte with remarkably improved energy density of 16.6 μWh/cm2 (nine times higher than that of symmetric MXene supercapacitor). Additionally, this ASC exhibits outstanding cyclic stability with no trackable performance decay over 30,000 galvanostatic charge and discharge cycles. It is demonstrated in this work that employing positive CPH electrode is a feasible yet promising strategy to enhance the potential window and energy density of aqueous MXene supercapacitors.

Background: Neointimal hyperplasia (NH) is a crucial pathophysiological feature in vascular transplant and in-stent restenosis. Excessive proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) play important roles in neointimal hyperplasia. This study aims to explore the potentialities and mechanism of sulfasalazine (SSZ) in the prevention of restenosis.Methods: Sulfasalazine was encapsulated in nanoparticles made of poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA). In vivo, carotid ligation injury was induced in mice to induce Neointimal hyperplasia, with or without sulfasalazine containing nanoparticles (NP-SSZ) treatment. After 4 weeks, the arteries were collected for histology, immunofluorescence, Western blotting (WB) and qRT-PCR. In vitro, vascular smooth muscle cells were treated with TNF-α to induce cell proliferation and migration, followed by SSZ or vehicle treatment. WB was performed to further explore its mechanism.Results: The ratio of intima to media thickness (I/M) was increased after ligation injury on day 28, while the ratio was significantly reduced in the NP-SSZ treatment group. The dual positive nuclei of Ki-67 and α-SMA were 47.83% ± 9.15%, whereas only 29.83% ± 5.98% in the NP-SSZ-treated group (p < 0.05). Both MMP-2 and MMP-9 were decreased in the NP-SSZ treatment group (p < 0.05, p < 0.05, respectively) compared to the control group. The levels of the targeted inflammatory genes (TNF-α, VCAM-1, ICAM-1, MCP-1) were lower in the NP-SSZ treatment group compared with the control group. In vitro, the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression was significantly decreased in the SSZ treatment group. The cell viability of VSMCs was markedly increased in the TNF-α treatment group, whereas sulfasalazine treatment inhibited this effect. LC3 II and P62 protein expression were higher in the SSZ group than in the vehicle group both in vitro and in vivo. The phosphorylation of NF-kB (p-NF-kB) and the phosphorylation of mTOR (p-mTOR) were decreased in the TNF-α+ SSZ group, whereas the P62 and LC3 II expression levels were increased. However, the expression level of p-mTOR, P62, and LC3 II was reversed after co-treatment with the agonist of mTOR MHY1485, whereas the p-NF-kB expression level was unchanged.Conclusion: sulfasalazine inhibited vascular smooth muscle cells proliferation and migration in vitro and Neointimal hyperplasia in vivo through NF-kB/mTOR-mediated autophagy.

In the recent decades, with rapid development in computing power and algorithms, machine learning (ML) has exhibited its enormous potential in new polymer discovery. Herein, the history of ML is described and the basic process of ML accelerated polymer discovery is summarized. Next, the four steps in this process are reviewed, that is, dataset selection, fingerprinting, ML framework, and new polymer generation. Finally, a couple of main challenges for ML accelerated polymer discovery is presented and the outlooks in this field are prospected. It is expected that this review can service as a useful tool for the people who just step into this field and deepen the understanding for the people who are already in this field.

With the prohibition of conventional organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), the extensive use and continuous release of current-use pesticides (CUPs), such as organic amine pesticides (OAPs) and organophosphate pesticides (OPPs), in agriculture and mariculture activities have raised global attention. In this study, the occurrence and distribution of 36 pesticides from above 3 categories were investigated in seawater and sediment in Beibu Gulf, a typical subtropical agricultural and maricultrual zone. Results showed that pesticides were widely present in this region with the total concentration ranging from 0.36 to 21.07 ng/L in seawater and from 0.02 to 9.73 ng/g dw in sediment. OAPs and OPPs were the most abundant categories contributing 74% and 66% to the total pesticides burden in seawater and sediment, respectively, revealing the current-use pesticides as substitutes of legacy organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) were mainly used in surrounding areas. For both seawater and surface sediment, the spatial distribution of pesticides concentrations showed generally seaward decreasing trends, suggesting that anthropogenic activities at coastal areas have an important impact on pesticides pollution. Source identification indicated OCPs in some seawater samples might be from mixture of antifouling paint and dicofol usage, while history residues are main sources of OCPs in sediment. OAPs, especially for cyflufenamid and kresoxim-methyl, mainly come from agricultral and maricultural sewage input, and OPPs were speculated from currency transportation from surrounding areas. Ecological risk assessment showed that OPPs posed moderate to even high risks in most seawater sites. It appears that crustaceans are the most sensitive trophic species to OPPs among aquatic organisms, followed by fish. According to the results of health risks proposed by the major aquatic products in Beibu Gulf (fish and shrimp), the selected pesticides pose no health risk to humans. Nevertheless, OCPs made the highest contribution to the total HQ values. Comprehensively considering the evaluation results of both ecological and health risks, more attention should be given on OPPs and OCPs pollution in the Beibu Gulf.

Platelets, anucleate blood components, represent the major cell type involved in the regulation of hemostasis and thrombosis. In addition to performing haemostatic roles, platelets can influence both innate and adaptive immune responses. In this review, we summarize the development of platelets and their functions in hemostasis. We also discuss the interactions between platelet products and innate or adaptive immune cells, including neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, T cells, B cells and dendritic cells. Activated platelets and released molecules regulate the differentiation and function of these cells via platelet-derived receptors or secreting molecules. Platelets have dual effects on nearly all immune cells. Understanding the exact mechanisms underlying these effects will enable further application of platelet transfusion.

Abstract Aim To develop and validate a prediction model to evaluate the perioperative hypoglycemia risk in hospitalized type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients undergoing elective surgery. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the electronic medical records of 1410 T2DM patients who had been hospitalized and undergone elective surgery. Regression analysis was used to develop a predictive model for perioperative hypoglycemia risk. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the Hosmer–Lemeshow test were used to verify the model. Results Our study showed an incidence of 10.7% for level 1 hypoglycemia and 1.8% for level 2 severe hypoglycemia during the perioperative period. A perioperative hypoglycemic risk prediction model was developed that was mainly composed of four predictors: duration of diabetes ≥ 10 year, body mass index (BMI)

Abstract The tumor suppressor P53 plays critical role in preventing cancer. P53 is rarely mutated and remains functional in luminal-type breast cancer(1). According to current knowledge, wild-type P53 function is tightly controlled by posttranslational modifications, such as ubiquitination. Several ubiquitin ligases have been shown to regulate P53 ubiquitination and protein stability. Here, we report that RNF187, a RING family ubiquitin ligase, facilitates breast cancer growth and inhibits apoptosis by modulating P53 signaling. RNF187 expression was elevated in breast cancer and correlated with breast cancer survival only in the P53 wild-type groups. Bioinformatic analysis showed that the expression of RNF187 was negatively correlated with the expression of P53 target genes, such as IGFBP3 and FAS, in breast cancer. RNF187 depletion inhibited breast cancer growth and facilitated cell death. RNA sequencing analysis indicated that RNF187 could be an important modulator of P53 signaling. Further experiments showed that RNF187 interacts with P53 and promotes its degradation by facilitating its polyubiquitination in breast cancer cells. Interestingly, the in vitro ubiquitin assay showed that RNF187 can directly ubiquitinate P53 in a manner independent of MDM2. These findings reveal a novel direct P53 regulator and a potential therapeutic target for breast cancer.

ObjectiveTo investigate the content of cyanide in apricot kernel, almond and their products in Gansu Province of China, and to provide reference for formulating relevant national standards and protect the public health.Methods323 samples of almond and its products were collected from 14 cities of Gansu Province of China. The content of cyanide in samples was determined by chromatographic headspace analysis.ResultsThe contents of cyanide in different products of apricot kernel and almond were various, the content of cyanide in were 0.098 0-720, 0.015 1-151, 0.015 1-7.15, 0.184-5.88, 0.083 2-5.11 and 0.702-17.3 mg/kg in dry fruit, solid beverage, liquid beverage, pastry, candy and pickled kind respectively. The contents of cyanide in different varieties of almond were different, the content of cyanide in bitter almond and its products was 0.015 1-720 mg/kg, 0.015 1-151 mg/kg in sweet almond and its products, and was 0.098 0-12.0 mg/kg in almond and its products. The content of cyanide was different in different kinds of almond, the content was 0.482-20.9 mg/kg in ripe (dried) sweet apricots, 1.05-151 mg/kg in raw (dried) sweet apricots, 2.32-184 mg/kg in fresh sweet apricots, 359-597 mg/kg in ripe (dried) bitter apricots, 359-720 mg/kg in raw (dried) bitter apricots and was 634-733 mg/kg in fresh bitter apricots.ConclusionCyanide is commonly found in apricot kernel, almond and their products, especially the contend of cyanide was high in fresh bitter almonds, dried bitter almonds and dried fruit almonds and their products which should be paid attention to.

To meet the growing needs of public safety and sustainable development, it is highly desirable to develop flame-retardant polymer materials using a facile and low-cost method. Although conventional solution chemical synthesis has proven to be an efficient way of developing flame retardants, it often requires organic solvents and a complicated separation process. In this review, we summarize the progress made in utilizing simple ball milling (an important type of mechanochemical approach) to fabricate flame retardants and flame-retardant polymer composites. To elaborate, we first present a basic introduction to ball milling, and its crushing, exfoliating, modifying, and reacting actions, as used in the development of high-performance flame retardants. Then, we report the mixing action of ball milling, as used in the preparation of flame-retardant polymer composites, especially in the formation of multifunctional segregated structures. Hopefully, this review will provide a reference for the study of developing flame-retardant polymer materials in a facile and feasible way.

With increasing demand for efficient archive management, robots have been employed in paper-based archive management for large, unmanned archives. However, the reliability requirements of such systems are high due to their unmanned nature. To address this, this study proposes a paper archive access system with adaptive recognition for handling complex archive box access scenarios. The system comprises a vision component that employs the YOLOV5 algorithm to identify feature regions, sort and filter data, and to estimate the target center position, as well as a servo control component. This study proposes a servo-controlled robotic arm system with adaptive recognition for efficient paper-based archive management in unmanned archives. The vision part of the system employs the YOLOV5 algorithm to identify feature regions and to estimate the target center position, while the servo control part uses closed-loop control to adjust posture. The proposed feature region-based sorting and matching algorithm enhances accuracy and reduces the probability of shaking by 1.27% in restricted viewing scenarios. The system is a reliable and cost-effective solution for paper archive access in complex scenarios, and the integration of the proposed system with a lifting device enables the effective storage and retrieval of archive boxes of varying heights. However, further research is necessary to evaluate its scalability and generalizability. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive box access system for unmanned archival storage. The system exhibits a higher storage success rate than existing commercial archival management robotic systems. The integration of the proposed system with a lifting device provides a promising solution for efficient archive management in unmanned archival storage. Future research should focus on evaluating the system’s performance and scalability.

Abstract Background A lot of medical mentions can be extracted from a huge amount of medical texts. In order to make use of these medical mentions, a prerequisite step is to link those medical mentions to a medical domain knowledge base (KB). This linkage of mention to a well-defined, unambiguous KB is a necessary part of the downstream application such as disease diagnosis and prescription of drugs. Such demand becomes more urgent in colloquial and informal situations like online medical consultation, where the medical language is more casual and vaguer. In this article, we propose an unsupervised method to link the Chinese medical symptom mentions to the ICD10 classification in a colloquial background. Methods We propose an unsupervised entity linking model using multi-instance learning (MIL). Our approach builds on a basic unsupervised entity linking method (named BEL), which is an embedding similarity-based EL model in this paper, and uses MIL training paradigm to boost the performance of BEL. First, we construct a dataset from an unlabeled large-scale Chinese medical consultation corpus with the help of BEL. Subsequently, we use a variety of encoders to obtain the representations of mention-context and the ICD10 entities. Then the representations are fed into a ranking network to score candidate entities. Results We evaluate the proposed model on the test dataset annotated by professional doctors. The evaluation results show that our method achieves 60.34% accuracy, exceeding the fundamental BEL by 1.72%. Conclusions We propose an unsupervised entity linking method to the entity linking in the medical domain, using MIL training manner. We annotate a test set for evaluation. The experimental results show that our model behaves better than the fundamental model BEL, and provides an insight for future research.

Abstract Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) have become increasingly attractive in solid‐state lithium‐ion batteries (SSLIBs) in recent years because of their inherent properties of flexibility, processability, and interfacial compatibility. However, the commercialization of SPEs remains challenging for flexible and high‐energy‐density LIBs. The incorporation of functional additives into SPEs could significantly improve the electrochemical and mechanical properties of SPEs and has created some historical milestones in boosting the development of SPEs. In this study, we review the roles of additives in SPEs, highlighting the working mechanisms and functionalities of the additives. The additives could afford significant advantages in boosting ionic conductivity, increasing ion transference number, improving high‐voltage stability, enhancing mechanical strength, inhibiting lithium dendrite, and reducing flammability. Moreover, the application of functional additives in high‐voltage cathodes, lithium–sulfur batteries, and flexible lithium‐ion batteries is summarized. Finally, future research perspectives are proposed to overcome the unresolved technical hurdles and critical issues in additives of SPEs, such as facile fabrication process, interfacial compatibility, investigation of the working mechanism, and special functionalities.

Abstract Background Time-restricted feeding is an emerging dietary intervention that is becoming increasingly popular. There are, however, no randomised clinical trials of time-restricted feeding in overweight patients with type 2 diabetes. Here, we explored the effects of time-restricted feeding on glycaemic regulation and weight changes in overweight patients with type 2 diabetes over 12 weeks. Methods Overweight adults with type 2 diabetes (n = 120) were randomised 1:1 to two diet groups: time-restricted feeding (n = 60) or control (n = 60). Sixty patients participated in a 10-h restricted feeding treatment program (ad libitum feeding from 8:00 to 18:00 h; fasting between 18:00 and 8:00 h) for 12 weeks. The large number of microbes found in the gut are involved in various critical biological processes in the human body and have dynamic and complex interactions with the immune system. Disruptions in the host’s gut microbiota and the metabolites produced during fermentation promote the development of intestinal inflammation and colorectal cancer (CRC). Toll-like receptors (TLRs) recognize specific microbial-associated molecular patterns specific to microorganisms whose signaling is involved in maintaining intestinal homeostasis or, under certain conditions, mediating dysbiosis-associated intestinal inflammation. The signaling pathways of TLRs are described first, followed by a discussion of the interrelationship between gut microbes and TLRs, including the activation of TLRs by gut microbes and the effect of TLRs on the distribution of gut microbiota, particularly the role of microbes in colorectal carcinogenesis via TLRs. Finally, we discuss the potential roles of various TLRs in colorectal cancer.

Increasing evidence has proved that miRNA plays a significant role in biological progress. In order to understand the etiology and mechanisms of various diseases, it is necessary to identify the essential miRNAs. However, it is time-consuming and expensive to identify essential miRNAs by using traditional biological experiments. It is critical to develop computational methods to predict potential essential miRNAs. In this study, we provided a new computational method (called PMMS) to identify essential miRNAs by using multi-head self-attention and sequences. First, PMMS computes the statistic and structure features and extracts the static feature by concatenating them. Second, PMMS extracts the deep learning original feature (BiLSTM-based feature) by using bi-directional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) and pre-miRNA sequences. In addition, we further obtained the multi-head self-attention feature (MS-based feature) based on BiLSTM-based feature and multi-head self-attention mechanism. By considering the importance of the subsequence of pre-miRNA to the static feature of miRNA, we obtained the deep learning final feature (WA-based feature) based on the weighted attention mechanism. Finally, we concatenated WA-based feature and static feature as an input to the multilayer perceptron) model to predict essential miRNAs. We conducted five-fold cross-validation to evaluate the prediction performance of PMMS. The areas under the ROC curves (AUC), the F1-score, and accuracy (ACC) are used as performance metrics. From the experimental results, PMMS obtained best prediction performances (AUC: 0.9556, F1-score: 0.9030, and ACC: 0.9097). It also outperformed other compared methods. The experimental results also illustrated that PMMS is an effective method to identify essential miRNA.

Rapid population growth and urbanization process have led to increasing demand for wastewater treatment capacity resulting in a non-negligible increase of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in several cities around the world. Bioaerosol emissions from WWTPs may pose adverse health risks to the sewage workers and nearby residents, which raises increasing public health concerns. However, there are still significant knowledge gaps on the interplay between process-based bioaerosol characteristics and exposures and the quantification of health risk which limit our ability to design effective risk assessment and management strategies. This review provides a critical overview of the existing knowledge of bioaerosol emissions from WWTPs including their nature, magnitude and size distribution, and highlights the shortcoming associated with existing sampling and analysis methods. The recent advancements made for rapid detection of bioaerosols are then discussed, especially the emerging real time detection methods to highlight the directions for future research needs to advance the knowledge on bioaerosol emissions from WWTPs.

BackgroundThe severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which has resulted in the most devastating pandemic in modern history. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) destroys immune system cells and weakens the body’s ability to resist daily infections and diseases. Furthermore, HIV-infected individuals had double COVID-19 mortality risk and experienced worse COVID-related outcomes. However, the existing research still lacks the understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying crosstalk between COVID-19 and HIV. The aim of our work was to illustrate blood transcriptome crosstalk between COVID-19 and HIV and to provide potential drugs that might be useful for the treatment of HIV-infected COVID-19 patients.MethodsCOVID-19 datasets (GSE171110 and GSE152418) were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, including 54 whole-blood samples and 33 peripheral blood mononuclear cells samples, respectively. HIV dataset (GSE37250) was also obtained from GEO database, containing 537 whole-blood samples. Next, the “Deseq2” package was used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between COVID-19 datasets (GSE171110 and GSE152418) and the “limma” package was utilized to identify DEGs between HIV dataset (GSE37250). By intersecting these two DEG sets, we generated common DEGs for further analysis, containing Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway and Gene Ontology (GO) functional enrichment analysis, protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis, transcription factor (TF) candidate identification, microRNAs (miRNAs) candidate identification and drug candidate identification.ResultsIn this study, a total of 3213 DEGs were identified from the merged COVID-19 dataset (GSE171110 and GSE152418), and 1718 DEGs were obtained from GSE37250 dataset. Then, we identified 394 common DEGs from the intersection of the DEGs in COVID-19 and HIV datasets. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis indicated that common DEGs were mainly gathered in chromosome-related and cell cycle-related signal pathways. Top ten hub genes (CCNA2, CCNB1, CDC20, TOP2A, AURKB, PLK1, BUB1B, KIF11, DLGAP5, RRM2) were ranked according to their scores, which were screened out using degree algorithm on the basis of common DEGs. Moreover, top ten drug candidates (LUCANTHONE, Dasatinib, etoposide, Enterolactone, troglitazone, testosterone, estradiol, calcitriol, resveratrol, tetradioxin) ranked by their P values were screened out, which maybe be beneficial for the treatment of HIV-infected COVID-19 patients.ConclusionIn this study, we provide potential molecular targets, signaling pathways, small molecular compounds, and promising biomarkers that contribute to worse COVID-19 prognosis in patients with HIV, which might contribute to precise diagnosis and treatment for HIV-infected COVID-19 patients.

Abstract Large-scale integration of wind power generation decreases the equivalent inertia of a power system, and thus makes frequency stability control challenging. However, given the irregular, nonlinear, and non-stationary characteristics of wind power, significant challenges arise in making wind power generation participate in system frequency regulation. Hence, it is important to explore wind power frequency regulation potential and its uncertainty. This paper proposes an innovative uncertainty modeling method based on mixed skew generalized error distribution for wind power frequency regulation potential. The mapping relationship between wind speed and the associated frequency regulation potential is established, and key parameters of the wind turbine model are identified to predict the wind power frequency regulation potential. Furthermore, the prediction error distribution of the frequency regulation potential is obtained from the mixed skew model. Because of the characteristics of error partition, the error distribution model and predicted values at different wind speed sections are summarized to generate the uncertainty interval of wind power frequency regulation potential. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms other state-of-the-art contrastive models in terms of the refined degree of fitting error distribution characteristics. The proposed model only requires the wind speed prediction sequence to accurately model the uncertainty interval. This should be of great significance for rationally optimizing system frequency regulation resources and reducing redundant backup.

Shape memory polymers (SMPs) are a new member of the smart materials family. SMPs have found wide applications or potential applications in almost all manmade structures and devices. In order to better design smart structures and devices using SMPs, thermomechanical constitutive modeling is essential. In this insight paper, we will focus on presenting several multi-length-scale and multi-physics modeling frameworks, including the thermodynamics consistent model, elasto-viscoplastic model, statistical mechanics model, and phase evaluation law model. The SMPs modeled will include amorphous one-way shape memory polymers, semicrystalline one-way shape memory polymers, semicrystalline two-way shape memory polymers, and functional and mechanical damage effects on SMPs. Finally, we will give some in-depth perspectives on future development in this area of study.
