Acid doped polyaniline nanofibers are examined for use as room-temperature hydrogen sensors. Results reveal that polyaniline nanofibers have the potential of being a good room-temperature hydrogen sensor in a dry atmosphere, and that their response is not inhibited by oxygen unlike many hydrogen sensors.

A different and shorter synthesis of certain compounds as well as their application to the asymmetric synthesis of alpha,alpha-disubstituted alpha-amino acids is reported. Good chemical yields and excellent diastereoselectivity was realized to produce alpha,alpha-disubstituted alpha-amino acids in high optical purity.

The reactions of a range of amide-stabilized sulfur ylides derived from camphor-derived sulfonium salts for the synthesis of glycidic amides are studied. Primary, secondary and tertiary amides are tested and it is found that the highest enantioselectives are observed with tertiary amides with exclusive trans selectivity, and the selective ring opening of the amides with a variety of nucleophiles is effected, followed by hydrolysis of the amide to yield the corresponding carboxylic acid.

A study to investigate the characteristics of the self-motion of camphanic acid disk on water depending on the concentration of a neutral surfactant, Triton X-100 was conducted. The results revealed that the surface tension of the aqueous phase changed periodically, synchronous with the contact angle around the camphanic acid disk.

An attempt that was made to demonstrate that utilizing the camphor-sulfonate (CS) anion makes the imidazolium cation free enough to expedite the stereoselectivity compared to MS and OTf anions is discussed. It is found that reactivity is relevant to the cation-anion association, ion states of the imidazolium ionic liquids at least for CS, MS and OTf anions.

The reactions of camphor-derived sulfur ylide with [alpha],[beta]-unsaturated ketone are used for the highly efficient and selective synthesis of optically active cyclohexadiene epoxides and vinylcyclopropanes with excellent diastereoselectivities.

A study was conducted to identify many camphor-degrading bacteria that have ability to transform 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB). The three strains examined were shown to produce metabolites resulting from hydroxylation at all of the three available secondary carbons on the six-member ring of 2-MIB.

The synthesis of four homochiral and one racemic chiral metal camphorate architectures via the integration of transition metals with a dual-ligand assembly approach is reported. The compounds exhibit an unusual homochiral three-dimensional supramolecular assembly as well as homochiral 3-fold interpenetrating diamond net and a noninterpenetrating primitive cubic net.

The synthesis of a series of nucleobase-modified beta-cyclodextrins ([beta]-CDs) is carried out to analyze their thermodynamically binding behavior toward camphor and borneol. Both the bicyclic terpenoids are observed to exhibit biological functions such as antibacterial, antispasmodic, choleretic, and tranquilizing effects.

A direct, enantioselective route to homoallylic primary amines based on asymmetric 2-azionia-Cope rearrangement is demonstrated. Due to the high functional group tolerance and practical level of enantioselectivity, application of this protocol to the synthesis of complex molecules is possible.

The complete carbon skeleton of (-)-rasfonin (1) was assembled via Yamaguchi coupling of alcohol 20 with diene acid 2. Synthesis was principally intended to confirm the structure and absolute configuration of (-)-1. Desilylation with CSA afforded (-)-rasfonin (1) in 84% yield.

Combined quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) studies on biohydroxylation of camphor by Cpd I of P450(sub cam) are performed by two groups (Shaik/Theil (S/T)(super 2) and Gullar/Friesner (G/F)(super 3/4)). The heme sides were incorporated into the Q/M region by G/F but not by S/T in their standard set up.
