Toward the development of a general chiral auxiliary: Enantioselective alkylation and a new catalytic asymmetric addition of silyloxyfurans: Application to a total synthesis of (-)-rasfonin

The complete carbon skeleton of (-)-rasfonin (1) was assembled via Yamaguchi coupling of alcohol 20 with diene acid 2. Synthesis was principally intended to confirm the structure and absolute configuration of (-)-1. Desilylation with CSA afforded (-)-rasfonin (1) in 84% yield.
