Asymmetric synthesis of alpha,alpha-disubstituted alpha-amino acids by diastereoselective alkylation of camphor-based tricyclic iminolactone

A different and shorter synthesis of certain compounds as well as their application to the asymmetric synthesis of alpha,alpha-disubstituted alpha-amino acids is reported. Good chemical yields and excellent diastereoselectivity was realized to produce alpha,alpha-disubstituted alpha-amino acids in high optical purity.
