Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder in women associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Cinnamon, a Chinese herbal medicine, is known for its anti-inflammatory and insulin-sensitizing properties, making it a potential therapeutic agent for PCOS-related cardiovascular complications. This systematic review and meta -analysis aimed to assess the impact of cinnamon supplementation on cardiovascular risk markers in women diagnosed with PCOS. Twelve randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in the analysis. The primary outcomes assessed were body weight, insulin resistance measured by Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), and fasting blood sugar (FBS). The meta -analysis revealed a statistically significant effect of cinnamon on reducing weight. Under the random-effects model, the pooled weighted mean difference (WMD) was −0.47 kg (95 % CI: −0.80 to −0.15, p < 0.001; I2 = 0.0 %). There was also a beneficial impact on insulin resistance, with reduced HOMA-IR scores following cinnamon supplementation (SMD=0.5015, 95 % CI: 0.2496 to 0.7533, p < 0.0001). Additionally, there was a significant improvement in FBS levels (pooled WMD: −7.72 mg/dL, 95 % CI: −12.33 to −3.12, p < 0.001; I2 = 91.3 %). The meta -analysis indicated a tendency towards reduced total cholesterol (WMD: −11.12 mg/dL, 95 % CI: −19.06 to −3.18, p = 0.01; I2 = 0.0 %) and LDL levels (WMD: −11.11 mg/dL, 95 % CI: −18.22 to −4.00, p < 0.01; I2 = 0.0 %) following cinnamon intervention. Substantial heterogeneity was observed among the studies, indicating the need for further research with larger sample sizes and standardized methodologies. Cinnamon supplementation demonstrates promising effects on body weight, blood sugar, total cholesterol, LDL, and insulin resistance in women with PCOS, indicating its potential in mitigating cardiovascular risk factors associated with this condition. Lipopeptides (LPs) from B. tequilensis EA-CB0015 have antifungal activity against Fusarium species. Specifically, against F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), the cause of Fusarium wilt of banana. Cinnamon (CN) extract is also known for its inhibitory activity against the Fusarium genus. The main goal of this research was to determine whether the effect of LPs and CN extract or their combination against a Foc isolate is related to an impairment of mitochondrial function. Our results show that biomass decreased by 74% (p < 0.0001) and 84% (p < 0.0001) when cultures were treated with 128 ppm LPs and 152.5 ppm CN extract, respectively. In parallel, we found a pronounced impairment of the bioenergetic response. That is, the routine oxygen consumption rate diminished by 55% (p = 0.0148) and 38% (p < 0.0001), respectively. Moreover, the ATP-linked respiratory rate decreased by 63% (p = 0.0461) and 44% (p = 0.0005), while the FCCP-simulated respiratory rate by 63% (p = 0.0255) and 45% (p = 0.0002). Therefore, our data suggest that the altered bioenergetic response observed in cultures of Foc treated with LPs or CN is mainly caused by an impairment of the activity of the respiratory complexes. On the other hand, biomass production was reduced by 80% (p < 0.0001) when cultures were treated with a mixture comprising only 10% LPs and 40% CN extract. Furthermore, ATP-linked and FCCP-stimulated respiratory rates decreased by 62% (p = 0.0024) and 68% (p < 0.0001), respectively under the same conditions. Despite the therapeutic benefits of insulin-pramlintide dual-hormone therapy in diabetes, its application potential has been limited due to a lack of efficient delivery routes. Here, we developed a temperature-responsive dual-hormone foam nanoengine (HormFoam) and combined it with a customized spraying device to further construct an in situ foam-generating system for improving the rectal bioavailability of dual-hormone therapy. To support rapid clinical translation, a continuous microfluidic preparation for HormFoam was proposed, including the power unit of perfluorocarbon nanodroplets and the pharmaceutical components Pluronic F127-functionalized liposomal insulin and pramlintide. We found that HormFoam could consistently generate foams to drive drugs forward after rectal administration, which enhanced intestinal distribution and mucosa absorption, leading to systemic codelivery of insulin-pramlintide. HormFoam reproduced the physiology of endocrine pancreas for glycemic control and induced body weight loss while reversing metabolic disorders in diabetic mice with good biosafety. Bird body mass is often used as an index of body condition and fluctuates throughout the year in response to environmental conditions and avian life‐history events. We examined the body mass of 59,572 ducks representing 13 species (7 dabbling duck species and 6 diving duck species) harvested within the 3 regions of the Central Valley in California, USA (Sacramento Valley, Suisun Marsh, San Joaquin Valley). Data collection occurred in winter during 5 hunting seasons (2014–2015, 2015–2016, 2017–2018, 2018–2019, 2019–2020). For all species, age, and sex classes, the body mass of dabbling ducks varied temporally and was lowest at the end of the hunting season in late January, declining from the beginning of the hunting season in mid‐October (northern pintail [Anas acuta]: −11.4% to −20.4%; northern shoveler [Spatula clypeata]: −3.5% to −17.3%; cinnamon teal [Anas cyanoptera]: −5.0% to −17.1%; American wigeon [Mareca americana]: −6.9% to −12.2%; American green‐winged teal [Anas carolinensis]: −5.9% to −11.9%; mallard [Anas platyrhynchos]: −1.8% to −9.6%; gadwall [Mareca strepera]: −2.2% to −8.4%). As expected, adults (after hatch‐year) were heavier than immature (hatch‐year) birds (within males: 0.6–8.6%; within females: 0.1–6.6%) and males were heavier than females (within adults: 3.1–38.6%; within immatures: 5.4–33.5%) at the end of the hunting season in all species. Within dabbling duck species, body masses did not differ among regions at the beginning of the hunting season but were heavier in the Sacramento Valley (0.5–14.4%) than other areas by the end of the hunting season. In contrast, body masses of diving ducks did not vary substantially during the hunting season or among regions. Diving ducks demonstrated inconsistent changes in mass from the beginning to the end of the season (lesser scaup [Aythya affinis]: 3.4% to 12.3%; canvasback [Aythya valisineria]: 5.1% to 6.1%; bufflehead [Bucephala albeola]: −3.2% to 1.6%; ring‐necked duck [Aythya collaris]: −4.9% to 2.6%; common goldeneye [Bucephala clangula]: −3.2% to −2.4%; ruddy duck [Oxyura jamaicensis]: −16.5% to 5.5%). The substantial temporal and spatial differences in dabbling duck body masses suggest that habitat quality (as measured by caloric value of the available food) or quantity may decline during winter and varies regionally within California's Central Valley. The formulations of functional low‐calorie dairy dessert, enriched with inulin/polydextrose (as a starch substitute), and ginger/cinnamon extract (as a flavor component and natural antioxidants), were developed and optimized by the D‐optimal mixed design method. In the first stage, using the hedonic sensory evaluation and syneresis data, the optimal concentrations of inulin and polydextrose were obtained as 2.49% inulin and 1.51% polydextrose, respectively. The steady shear rheological test showed that the replacement of starch with inulin and polydextrose caused a decrease in apparent viscosity in all dessert samples. This decrease was higher in the samples containing polydextrose than those containing inulin. The replacement of starch with inulin and polydextrose also reduced the hysteresis loop area and thixotropic behavior. In the second stage, 0–0.4% of ginger and cinnamon extracts  were added to the optimum sample and then the antioxidant and color properties of dessert samples were evaluated. The lightness (L*) Hunter parameter decreased by adding extracts and the samples containing cinnamon extract showed a higher a* parameter than the control and ginger‐incorporated samples. The result of the 2,2‐diphenyl 1‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) antioxidant assay showed that the antioxidant capacity of ginger extract was significantly higher than that of cinnamon extract. The half‐maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value of dessert samples decreased by adding 0.4% cinnamon and ginger extracts from 88.30 mg/mL to 77.04 and 31.94 mg/mL, respectively. Published research articles reported several extractions and chromatographic techniques for their determination. The aim of this review was to take into consideration the research articles published from 2016 to 2024 in which the authors developed extraction and chromatographic analysis methods of oxygen heterocyclic compounds in foods. The objective of this review was to assist researchers in choosing the best approach for their future work by identifying all the possible approaches to characterize coumarins, furocoumarins, and polymethoxyflavones in foodstuffs. Background: Binge eating disorder is one of the main eating disorders that is characterized by recurrent binge eating episodes that lead to complications like high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, etc. Many psychological and biological factors can lead to binge eating disorder and one of the main physiological reasons is insulin resistance. Cinnamon is an old favorite that has positive effects on insulin sensitivity. So, we examined the effect of cinnamon on binge eating disorder in this study. Methods: This study was conducted on 40 binge eating disorder patients with a BMI between 25 and 39.9 kg/m2. They were divided into two groups one of them consumed 6 g of cinnamon per day while the other group consumed 6 g of white wheat as a placebo. Before and after the study we examined weight, height, Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ), and Binge Eating Scale (BES) scale in all participants and did the statistical analysis. Results: There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics, gender, height, weight, BMI, education, and marriage status between the two groups. There were no significant changes between BSQ, BES, weight, and height after the study either. Conclusion: According to our findings, although the weight of the patients in the cinnamon group decreased significantly, after the end of the study, no significant difference was observed in the weight, BMI, and BAS and BSQ indices between the two groups. Chronic noncommunicable diseases are a global health problem causing increased rates of mortality and sick leaves, which can be reduced by controlling dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia. Experimental and clinical studies have demonstrated the antidiabetic, lipid-lowering, antiobesogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antihypertensive properties of cinnamon; therefore, its use in yogurt can help reverse the effects of these diseases. Our study aims to evaluate the effect of a microencapsulated aqueous extract of cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) (MCE Cz) incorporated in a yogurt drink on metabolic syndrome (MS) in a rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Physicochemical, microbiological, and proximal chemical characterization; total phenol, flavonoid, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil activity quantification; intestinal bioaccessibility; sensory analysis; MS induction through diet; and treatment with 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg of flavonoids contained in the MCE Cz were performed to help evaluate morphological, biochemical, and lipid peroxidation measurements in the liver and heart. The results show that the addition of MCE Cz in the yogurt modified the yogurt texture, increased its adhesiveness and firmness, and imparted a characteristic cinnamon color and biological value by providing intestinally bioaccessible antioxidants with antioxidant potential by reducing lipoperoxidation in the liver and heart after treatment. MCE Cz reduced the weight of the animals by up to 38.5% and the abdominal circumference by 29%. Biochemically, it decreased glucose levels by 24.38%, total cholesterol levels by 69.2%, triglyceride levels by 72.69%, and low-density lipoprotein levels by 89.25%; it increased high-density lipoprotein levels by 67.08%. Therefore, adding MCE Cz in doses of 5 and 10 mg of flavonoids in drinkable yogurt can be an alternative to preparing functional foods with physicochemical attributes and biological properties that can be consumed at all stages of life without undesirable effects. Interest in fermented foods has grown due to potential health benefits, and kombucha, an ancient beverage originating in Asia, has been highlighted for its probiotic properties and unique flavor. Combining kombucha with spices has shown promising results in improving the flavor and nutritional properties of the fermented beverage. The study evaluated the composition of kombucha prepared with green tea (Camellia sinensis), both in the first and second fermentation, using homemade samples from consumers. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), cloves (Syzygium aromaticum), and turmeric (Curcuma longa) were added to enrich kombucha with different aromas and health benefits. The results indicated increased levels of reducing sugars during fermentation and a constant concentration of antioxidant compounds in all samples kombucha fermented on the seventh day. Adding clove and cinnamon spices in the second fermentation increased the concentration of antioxidants, but the same effect was not observed with turmeric. BACKGROUND: Papaya, a highly nutritious and economically significant fruit, is susceptible to infections caused by phytopathogenic fungi. Cinnamon essential oil, derived from Cinnamomum cassia (CC), shows promise in preserving papaya due to its antifungal properties. However, CC is volatile, sensitive to environmental factors, and carries a strong aroma. γ‐Cyclodextrin (γ‐CD) is known for encapsulating hydrophilic molecules, shielding them from environmental influences, reducing odor, and enabling controlled release due to its unique channel structure. This study aimed to tackle these challenges by preparing and characterizing an inclusion complex of CC with γ‐CD (CC‐γ‐CD), and subsequently evaluating its efficacy in preserving papaya fruits. RESULTS: Analyses, including Fourier‐infrared, powder X‐ray diffraction, thermal gravity analysis, differential scanning calorimeter, and scanning electron microscopy, revealed successful encapsulation of CC components within the γ‐CD cavity. Evaluations of the CC‐γ‐CD complex's impact on papaya fruit shelf life and quality showed notable enhancements. Fruits treated with CC‐γ‐CD inclusion complex at a dose of 10 g kg−1 exhibited a 55% extension in shelf‐life, evidenced by reduced disease severity index compared with untreated fruit in the same storage conditions. Detailed physicochemical and bromatological assessments highlighted significant improvements, particularly in fruit treated with CC‐γ‐CD inclusion complex at a dose of 10 g kg−1. CONCLUSION: The application of CC‐γ‐CD inclusion complex at 10 g kg−1 extended the shelf‐life of papaya fruit, significantly and markedly improved the overall quality. Active packaging allows for preserving the properties of food, extending shelf life, and safeguarding food safety through the interaction of their diverse components with the product. The incorporation of essential oils, particularly cinnamon essential oil, as active components is emerging as an increasingly relevant alternative to synthetic additives. This work aims to provide an overview of the application of cinnamon essential oil as a bioactive compound in food packaging. Cinnamon essential oil exhibits a highly variable composition, with cinnamaldehyde standing out as one of the predominant components responsible for the antimicrobial properties. Phenolic compounds, on the other hand, endow the oil with outstanding antioxidant activity. The application of this oil in active packaging, whether in the form of films or coatings, has demonstrated a significant improvement in optical, mechanical, and water vapor barrier properties. Moreover, its ability to inhibit microbial growth and lipid oxidation in the applied foods has been evidenced. However, despite the promising prospects of using essential oils in active packaging for food preservation, detailed regulation is still required for industrial-level implementation. Cinnamomum cassia (L.) J.Presl, a tropical aromatic evergreen tree belonging to the Lauraceae family, is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is also a traditional spice used worldwide. However, little is currently known about the extent of the genetic variability and population structure of C. cassia. In this study, 71 individuals were collected from seven populations across two geographical provinces in China. Nine morphological features, three chemical components, and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers were used in an integrated study of C. cassia germplasm variations. Remarkable genetic variation exists in both phenotypic and chemical compositions, and certain traits, such as leaf length, leaf width, volatile oil content, and geographic distribution, are correlated with each other. One-year-old C. cassia seedling leaf length, leaf width, elevation, and volatile oil content were found to be the main contributors to diversity, according to principal component analysis (PCA). Three major groupings were identified by cluster analysis based on the phenotypic and volatile oil data. This was in line with the findings of related research using 1,387,213 SNP markers; crucially, they all demonstrated a substantial link with geographic origin. However, there was little similarity between the results of the two clusters. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) revealed that the genetic diversity of C. Cassia populations was low, primarily among individuals within populations, accounting for 95.87% of the total. Shannon's information index (I) varied from 0.418 to 0.513, with a mean of 0.478 (Na=1.860, Ne =1.584, Ho =0.481, He =0.325, and PPB =86.04%). Genetic differentiation across populations was not significant because natural adaptation or extensive exchange of seeds among farmers between environments, thus maintaining the relationship. Following a population structure analysis using the ADMIXTURE software, 71 accessions were found to be clustered into three groups, with 38% of them being of the pure type, a finding that was further supported by PCA. Future breeding strategies and our understanding of the evolutionary relationships within the C. cassia population would benefit greatly from a thorough investigation of phenotypic, chemical, and molecular markers. Background: Nonhealing diabetic wounds are a serious complication associated with extremely lethargic wound closure and a high risk of infection, leading to amputation or limb loss, as well as substantial health care costs and a poor quality of life for the patient. The effects of either eggshell membrane (ESM) and green seaweed (Ulva lactuca) extracts alone or in combination were evaluated for in vivo skin wound healing in a rat model of induced diabetes. Methods: Micronized powders of waste hen ESM, Ulva lactuca, and their 1:1 mixture were prepared using regular procedures. The mechanical, electrical, and surface morphology characteristics of powders were examined using direct compression, LCR-impedancemetry, and scanning electron microscopy. The effect of ESM, Ulva lactuca, and their mixture as compared to standard Dermazin treatments were evaluated on wounds inflicted on male Wistar Albino rats with induced diabetes. Quantitative wound healing rates at baseline and at 3, 7, 14, and 21 days of treatments among all rat groups were conducted using ANOVA. Qualitative histological analysis of epidermal re-epithelization, keratinocytes, basement membrane, infiltrating lymphocytes, collagen fibrines, and blood vessels at day 21 were performed using Image J processing program. Results: Compressive strength measurements of tablets showed a Young's modulus of 44.14 and 27.17 MPa for the ESM and ESM + Ulva lactuca mixture, respectively. Moreover, both samples exhibited relatively low relative permittivity values of 6.62 and 6.95 at 1 MHz, respectively, due to the porous surface morphology of ESM shown by scanning electron microscopy. On day 21, rats treated with ESM had a complete diabetic wound closure, hair regrowth, and a healing rate of 99.49%, compared to 96.79% for Dermazin, 87.05% for Ulva lactuca, 90.23% for the mixture, and only 36.44% for the negative controls. A well-formed basement membrane, well-differentiated epithelial cells, and regular thick keratinocytes lining the surface of the epidermal cells accompanied wound healing in rats treated with ESM, which was significantly better than in control rats. Conclusion: Ground hen ESM powder, a low-cost effective biomaterial, is better than Ulva lactuca or their mixture for preventing tissue damage and promoting diabetic wound healing, in addition to various biomedical applications. Lead exposure is toxic even at low levels, resulting in impairments that can affect a child's lifelong success. In North Carolina, testing for lead is encouraged for all children at ages 1 and 2 years and required for children covered by Medicaid; investigations are performed to identify potential exposure sources for children with blood lead levels (BLLs) ≥5 μg/dL. During June--August 2023, routine lead testing identified four asymptomatic North Carolina children with BLLs ≥5 μg/dL. Home investigations identified only WanaBana brand apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches as a potential exposure source; product samples contained 1.9--3.0 ppm of lead. An expanded nationwide investigation led to identification of approximately 500 cases of childhood lead exposure believed to be linked to consumption of apple cinnamon purees, including 22 cases in North Carolina. Fewer than one half (45%) of the 22 North Carolina cases were among children covered by Medicaid. A coordinated multiagency communication strategy was implemented in North Carolina to notify consumers of the hazard and provide recommendations for preventing further exposure. The Food and Drug Administration issued a nationwide public health advisory on October 28, 2023; 2 days later, the manufacturer issued a voluntary recall. Routine testing of young children for lead exposure, combined with thorough environmental investigations, can identify emerging sources of lead exposure and limit further harm. BACKGROUND RESULTS CONCLUSION An increasing incidence of metabolic disorders emphasizes the need to explore natural treatments. Spirulina, a microalga with a rich nutrient profile, offers a promising solution for obesity, diabetes, and inflammation. This study provides a meticulous analysis of spirulina powder, evaluating its physicochemical attributes and technofunctional properties through the use of advanced analytical techniques.Spirulina powder demonstrated strong flowability, substantial water and oil absorption capacity, and moderate foaming characteristics. The ethanolic extract of spirulina was found to be a repository of phenolic (6.93 mg GAE/g) and flavonoid (7.17 mg QE/g) compounds, manifesting considerable antioxidant activity with a 58.49 g kg−1 inhibition of 2,2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals. The extract also exhibited pronounced inhibitory effects on lipase and amylase enzymes, with inhibition percentages of 72.05 g kg−1 and 70.28 g kg−1, respectively, and displayed a glucose retention capacity of 1.28 mg dL−1 (68.52 g kg−1) in a dialysis membrane assay. These results suggest its efficacy in modulating obesity and glycemic control. The powder also showed a potent anti‐inflammatory response by mitigating protein denaturation.Spirulina powder is a potent natural agent with multiple health benefits, meriting its incorporation into functional foods. The hepatoprotective effects of natural products have been a significant focus in recent decades due to the growing demand for the help in the treatment of hepatic impairments. This review specifically delves into the findings of clinical trials involving 13 selected natural products, namely plants and their derived compounds (e.g., artichoke, berberine, and turmeric), algae (e.g., spirulina), probiotics, and other products like phospholipids and vitamin D. A literature search was performed in the Scopus database, PubMed, and Google Scholar, covering all articles found up to June 2024. Artichoke, berberine, chlorella, chicory, green tea, probiotics, phospholipids, schisandra, silymarin, spirulina, and vitamin D caused a decrease in liver enzymes, while for cinnamon and turmeric such an effect was either not observed or not convincing. The presented results indicate that some natural products might satisfactorily improve hepatic outcomes in NAFLD, NASH, and other liver disorders; however, further studies and metanalyses are needed to clearly demonstrate their effectiveness. Background: Diabetic wounds present significant challenges, specifically in terms of bacterial infection and delayed healing. Therefore, it is crucial to address local bacterial issues and promote accelerated wound healing. In this investigation, we utilized electrospinning to fabricate microgel/nanofiber membranes encapsulating MXene-encapsulated microgels and chitosan/gelatin polymers. Results: The film dressing facilitates programmed photothermal therapy (PPT) and mild photothermal therapy (MPTT) under near-infrared (NIR), showcasing swift and extensive antibacterial and biofilm-disrupting capabilities. The PPT effect achieves prompt sterilization within 5 min at 52 °C and disperses mature biofilm within 10 min. Concurrently, by adjusting the NIR power to induce local mild heating (42 °C), the dressing stimulates fibroblast proliferation and migration, significantly enhancing vascularization. Moreover, in vivo experimentation successfully validates the film dressing, underscoring its immense potential in addressing the intricacies of diabetic wounds. Conclusions: The MXene microgel-loaded nanofiber dressing employs temperature-coordinated photothermal therapy, effectively amalgamating the advantageous features of high-temperature sterilization and low-temperature promotion of wound healing. It exhibits rapid, broad-spectrum antibacterial and biofilm-disrupting capabilities, exceptional biocompatibility, and noteworthy effects on promoting cell proliferation and vascularization. Combination therapy at appropriately suitable doses presents a promising alternative to monotherapeutic drugs. In this study, Cinnamomum verum and Syzygium aromaticum essential oils and their major compounds have exhibited substantial leishmaniacidal potential against both promastigote and amastigote forms of Leishmania (L.) major. However, they displayed high cytotoxicity against Raw264.7 macrophage cells. Interestingly, when combined with each other or with amphotericin B, they demonstrated a synergistic effect (FIC<0.5) with low cytotoxicity. These combinations are able to modulate the production of nitric oxide (NO) by macrophages. Notably, the combination of S. aromaticum Essential oil with amphotericin B stimulates macrophage cells by increasing NO production to eliminate leishmanial parasites. Furthermore, investigation of the molecular mechanism of action of these synergistic combinations reveals potent inhibition of the sterol pathway through the inhibition of the CYP51 gene expression. Introduction: The genus Cinnamomum (cinnamon) is one of the well-known aromatic spices throughout the world with numerous medicinal applications. Several beneficial pharmacological properties of cinnamon have been evaluated, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anticancer, cardiovascular-disease-lowering, and neurological disorder-improving effects. This review critically evaluates studies regarding the molecular mechanisms underlying the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of cinnamon species. Methods: Using three online literature databases (PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct), we identified studies describing the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of cinnamon species. A literature search was carried out using a combination of keywords such as (“Cinnamomum,”) AND (“antioxidant” OR “anti-inflammatory”) or other related words. In this review, we evaluated new findings regarding the molecular mechanisms of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of Cinnamomum species published from 2005 until December 2022. A total of 38 papers were selected to describe the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of cinnamon species. Results: Cinnamon species possess antioxidant effects by reducing ROS, MDA, and NO levels, and depleting GSH, decreasing MPO activity, and enhancing the growth of SOD and CAT. Additionally, the suppression of caspase-3 and caspase-9 activity and the upregulation of bcl-2 expression determine the anti-apoptotic effects of cinnamon. Their anti-inflammatory effects are mainly related to the reduction of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18, IL-10, iNOS, MCP-1, and COX-2, and the inhibition of NF-κB, ERK1/2, p38, and JNK activation. Conclusion: This review highlighted the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of genus cinnamon and can provide a suitable basis for further pharmacologic surveys and efficient clinical research on cinnamon to obtain new evidence on its benefits for human health. Raising fish in ponds for an extended period can have an impact on the accumulation of bacteria that can affect the health of the fish. Using plant extracts is an interesting option to consider for reducing bacterial contamination in ponds. This study investigated the effectiveness of cinnamon extract in reducing bacterial contamination in the water used for raising Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens). Optimal concentrations of cinnamon extract were determined for microbial reduction in the water used for the cultivation of these fish. Test the ability to resist infection at the concentrations of cinnamon extract 1:1, 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:16, and 1:64, against 3 bacterial species (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). The concentrations of cinnamon extract at 1:1 and 1:2 inhibited all three tested pathogens, while up to 1:4 inhibited S. aureus. Water samples taken from the ponds for testing were studied at 4 cinnamon extract concentrations: 0, 1, 2, and 3 gL-1. The treated water samples were collected at 0, 24, and 48 hours to quantify microbial activity. There were significant (p<0.05) differences among the concentrations, with the numbers of microorganisms in the treated water at 48 hours being 3.84x105, 2.92x104, 2.69x10³, and 2.89x10³ CFU mL-1, respectively. The experimental groups with concentrations of 2 and 3 gL-1 were the most effective in reducing bacteria in the fishpond after 24 h. Background: The range of synthetic medications and growth promoters fed to broilers is expensive, negatively impacts the health of the birds and has long-term side effects. Refocusing their efforts, poultry farmers are looking for herbal extracts that have therapeutic properties and may be used safely to boost productivity. This study was conducted to assess the effect of Garlic (Allium sativum), Ginger (Zingiber officinale) and Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) on the growth performance of broiler chickens. Methods: One hundred and forty day old broiler chicks were distributed randomly into seven treatment groups viz., T0 (Control: basal diet), T1 (basal diet + 0.5% Garlic), T2 (basal diet + 0.5% Ginger), T3 (basal diet + 0.5% Cinnamon), T4 (basal diet + 0.25% Garlic + 0.25% Ginger), T5 (basal diet + 0.25 % Garlic + 0.25% Cinnamon), T6 (basal diet + 0.25% Ginger + 0.25% Cinnamon) having 70 chicks in each group with 10 replicates. Result: The results (0-6 weeks) of present study indicated that supplementation of a combination of 0.25% garlic and 0.25% ginger to the basal diet of broilers (T4 ) significantly improved overall average daily gain (ADG), better feed conversion ratio (FCR) and broiler performance efficiency index (BPEI) and body weight (BW) of broilers followed by diet supplemented with combination of 0.25% ginger and 0.25% cinnamon (T6 ) compared to control and other groups. Highest profit per bird (Rs. 25.17) and benefit cost ratio (1.59) was observed in T4 followed by T6 . The prevalence of hyperglycemia is increasing worldwide in large part due to the escalating prevalence of obesity. It can occur along with other disorders and diseases, contributing to escalating health costs and accumulating disabilities. Besides dietary approaches and availability of antidiabetic medications, other complementary approaches and adjunct therapies using biologically active botanical phytochemicals have received growing attention for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus. Spices are one source of these bioactive plant constituents, and considerable preclinical studies have investigated their possible health benefits. There also are an increasing number of human clinical trials assessing the ability of spices and their individual plant constituents to improve glucose homeostasis in those with type 2 diabetes mellitus and other dysglycemic conditions. Ultrasound-assisted steam distillation (USD) increased the yield of cinnamon oils extracted from cinnamon leaves by fitting a mass transfer kinetic model during the distillation process. A response surface optimization experiment was conducted to optimize the experimental conditions, which revealed that the order of factors was particle size, ultrasound power, ultrasound time, and pulse ratio. The optimal conditions were determined to be a 40 mesh particle size, 286 W ultrasound power, 31 min ultrasound time, and 7:3 pulse ratio, resulting in a 2.36% yield of cinnamon oils. The yield of cinnamon oils was 0.57% greater in USD than that of steam distillation (SD). The nonsteady-state diffusion model was the most suitable model for the distillation process. The washing coefficient b value of USD was 0.0210, indicating that cinnamon oils were enriched on the particle surface during the initial stages. The diffusion coefficient k of the USD was 0.1770, 40.36% higher than that of the SD, indicating a higher mass transfer efficiency. The main components in cinnamon oils were cinnamaldehyde, coumarin, and 2-methoxycinnamaldehyde. Compared with those of SDs, USDs increased the diffusion coefficient k values of these components increased by 48.51%, 77.67%, and 82.43%, respectively. Ultrasound cavitation improved the mass transfer efficiency of the distillation process, allowing components such as 2-methoxycinnamaldehyde to be more easily enriched in cinnamon oils than in other oils. Milk rice pudding (MRP) is a commercial and popular dairy dessert, but owing to its characteristics and valuable ingredients, it may be contaminated by many pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms. So, this study aimed to improve the quality and safety of MRP by using cinnamon and clove essential oils. Concerning the evaluation of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for both oils with 0.2, 0.5, and 1% concentrations, B. cereus and B. subtilis were sensitive (+) to cinnamon and clove 0.5%, with inhibition zones of 13.3 and 14 mm for cinnamon and 11.3 and 12 mm for clove EO, respectively. While both bacteria were very sensitive (++) to cinnamon 1% (18.8 and 19.5 mm) and clove 1% (17.3 and 18.7 mm), respectively. Therefore, MRP was prepared by adding cinnamon and clove EOs at 0.6%. Treatments containing EOs showed a significant reduction of tested microorganisms compared to controls. B. cereus wasn't detected in clove and cinnamon EO treatments at day 21 of the storage period, while B. subtilis vanished on day 14 for the cinnamon treatment and on day 21 for clove MRP. Moreover, the results revealed the enhancement of sensory characteristics of MRP supplemented with EOs without any significant alteration in their pH values. This study recommends the addition of cinnamon and clove EOs (0.6%) to MRP, as it isn't only an excellent substitution of chemical preservatives with powerful antibacterial efficiency but also improves the overall acceptance of the product. Background: Despite accumulating evidence correlating oxidative stress with lupus disease activity, the brain redox pathways are still poorly investigated. Cinnamomum cassia, a widely used spice with powerful antioxidant properties, could be a novel therapeutic candidate in lupus. Methods: C57BL/6J female mice were divided into five groups: sham, sham-cinnamon, lupus, lupus-cinnamon starting from induction, and lupus-cinnamon starting two weeks before induction. Lupus was induced by skin application on the right ear with 1.25 mg of 5% imiquimod cream three times per week for six weeks. Cinnamomum cassia was given orally, five days per week, at 200 mg/kg. Results: Concomitant to TLR7-MYD88 pathway activation, the p-NRF2/NRF2 and p-FOXO3/FOXO3 ratios were increased in the hippocampus and alleviated by cinnamon treatment. BCL-2 positivity was enhanced in hippocampal neurons and reversed only by preventive cinnamon administration. In vitro, exposure of hippocampal cells to the plasma of different groups induced a surge in oxidative stress. This was associated with an increased t-BID/BID ratio. Cinnamon treatment, particularly in the preventive arm, normalized these modifications. Conclusions: Our study shows a neuroprotective effect of cinnamon by rescuing brain redox and apoptosis homeostasis in lupus, paving the way for its use as a natural therapeutic compound in the clinical management of lupus. Aim: To assess and compare the effect of mouthwash containing 0.3% Aegle marmelos (Bael) leaves extract with other herbal mouthwashes containing 0.3% Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Cinnamon) barks extract and 0.3% Azadirachta indica (Neem) leaves extract and with 0. 2% chlorhexidine mouthwash on dental plaque, gingival health and salivary p H among adults. Materials and Methods: A triple blinded randomized controlled trial with concurrent parallel study design was carried out. Around, 48 young adults were randomly allotted to four groups - Group A (Chlorhexidine), Group B (Cinnamon), Group C (Bael) and Group D ( Neem) by simple randomization technique. They were advised to rinse with 10 ml of their respected mouthwashes twice daily for 1 minute for a period of 28 days. The dental plaque score and gingival inflammation score were recorded using Plaque index and Gingival index at the baseline, 15th day, 22nd day and 29th day. Statistical analysis were done using ANOVA and repeated measure ANOVA for the plaque and gingival scores and Paired sample t test for p H Results: Mouthwashes containing Bael, Neem and Chlorhexidine showed a stastistically significant reduction in the plaque levels at the end of second week (mean difference from baseline to 2nd week = 0. 158, 0. 100 and 0. 108 respectively with p value < 0. 05). However, at all the time points considered in the study, Bael was more effective in reducing the gingivitis. In 2020 and 2021, peach fruit with natural disease and decay were collected from orchards in Zhejiang Province. Then the fungal pathogens were isolated from the diseased spots and identified by morphological characteristics, molecular biological identification (rDNA-ITS sequence analysis) and pathogenicity detection. The antifungal effect of cinnamon essential oil on the fungal pathogens in vitro and in vivo were also investigated. The results showed that two fungal pathogens with strong pathogenicity were isolated, and identified as Monilinia fructicola and Rhizopus stolonifer, which caused brown rot and soft rot, respectively. Cinnamon essential oil inhibited the growth of M. fructicola and R. stolonifer, and the minimum inhibitory concentrations were 0.4 and 0.8 mL/L, respectively. M. fructicola was more sensitive to cinnamon essential oil. Cinnamon essential oil fumigation could reduce the disease incidence and lesion diameter of brown rot and soft rot of peach fruit caused by these two fungal pathogens. Circuit simulators are fundamentally used for solving electric circuit problems with different degrees of complexity in which node voltages and branch currents are the unknowns. This is fully understandable since they were originally created for this specific task. However, behind the curtains, powerful simulation engines based on a variety of numerical techniques operate so as to always comply with Kirchhoff's current and voltage laws. In this paper, it is shown how a simple circuital configuration, referred to as the elementary solver, consistent in two behavioral current sources in series, can be used to solve mathematical problems that go beyond electronics. Of course, the intention is not to substitute mathematical packages with well-proven calculus capacity but to increase the scope of circuit simulators for their application in other areas of research or simply for educational purposes. It is worth mentioning that no special programming skills are required (except a basic knowledge of the available tools and language) and, furthermore, that the user can operate exclusively in a graphical environment. It is shown, throughout a series of selected examples, how the method of elementary solvers (MES) works, providing a new and practical dimension to the applicability of circuit simulators. Abstract Background Binge eating disorder is one of the main eating disorders that is characterized by recurrent binge eating episodes that lead to complications like high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, etc. Many psychological and biological factors can lead to binge eating disorder and one of the main physiological reasons is insulin resistance. Cinnamon is an old favorite that has positive effects on insulin sensitivity. So, we examined the effect of cinnamon on binge eating disorder in this study. Methods This study was conducted on 40 binge eating disorder patients with a BMI between 25 and 39.9 kg/m2. They were divided into two groups one of them consumed 6 g of cinnamon per day while the other group consumed 6 g of white wheat as a placebo. Before and after the study we examined weight, height, Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ), and Binge Eating Scale (BES) scale in all participants and did the statistical analysis. Results There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics, gender, height, weight, BMI, education, and marriage status between the two groups. There were no significant changes between BSQ, BES, weight, and height after the study either. Conclusion According to our findings, although the weight of the patients in the cinnamon group decreased significantly, after the end of the study, no significant difference was observed in the weight, BMI, and BAS and BSQ indices between the two groups. ABSTRACTThe study was designed to develop functional cucumber and pomegranate based ready-to-serve (RTS) drink as thirst quencher. To boost antioxidant activity and to add natural preservation to the drink, microwave-assisted extracts of herbs and spices; mint, lemongrass, ginger, cinnamon were incorporated either individually or collective, at an equivalent dose of 2% for comparison. In this regard, ginger extract incorporated drink maintained its storage quality owing to highest free radical scavenging potential (49 to 67%) in relevance to highest polyphenol and flavonoid contents (1203 ± 64 mg GAE/L and 178 ± 8 mg TE/L, respectively). Whereas, ascorbic acid was maximally recorded in lemongrass-based drink 22 ± 1 mg/100 mL. During 30 days storage under refrigeration, significant decrease was recorded in pH of the RTS drink along with considerable increase in acidity and browning index however, total soluble solids demonstrated non-significant pattern. Sedimentation showed an inclining trend (p˂.05) with progression in storage but comparatively less sedimentation was attributed to lemongrass incorporated drink followed by cinnamon containing drink. Turbidity also indicated significant changes but showed inverse pattern with respect to sedimentation. Additionally, ginger-based drink expressed considerably low total plate count as 2.3 ± .1 log CFU/mL with nil yeast and mold growth by all the extracts throughout storage. Further, ginger portrayed highest rate for odor, taste and consistency though, mixed herbs and spices based drink attained the best color score. Conclusively, ginger-based drink portrayed maximum antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

This study evaluates the anesthetic effectiveness and potential reduction of toxicity in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) through the use of clove, cinnamon, and tea tree essential oils. We evaluated genetic damage, enzymatic activity, and gene expression. We conducted two experiments. In experiment 1, we individually evaluated the anesthetic efficiency and genotoxicity of these essential oils. In experiment 2, we assessed their combined effects at different concentrations. Clove oil, particularly at the highest concentration (200 µL/L), induced genotoxic effects and oxidative stress in fish, leading to alterations in gene expression regulation and enzymatic activity. Tea tree and cinnamon oils, at concentrations of 75 and 100 µL/L, required longer times to induce fish to the anesthesia stage and were less efficient in achieving deep anesthesia stage. Notably, combining tea tree and cinnamon essential oils to clove oil showed promise as an alternative to using clove oil alone. This combination demonstrated potential as an effective anesthetic and may help mitigate the genotoxic effects associated with clove essential oil. Our findings suggest a viable option to minimize potential physiological damage during the anesthesia process in aquaculture, thereby promoting a balance between this necessary procedure and animal welfare. An overview of the cytotoxic potential of commonly used African spices in human cancer cell lines has been provided. Data on the cytotoxic potential of some commonly used African medicinal spices have been compiled. Their distribution, traditional use, and phytochemical constituents have also been highlighted. The medicinal spices reported include Aframomum species such as A. arundinaceum, A. alboviolaceum, A. kayserianum, and A. polyanthum, as well as Curcuma longa, Dorstenia psilurus, Echinops giganteus, Fagara leprieurii, Imperata cylindrica, Olax subscorpioidea, Piper capense, Piper guineense, Tetrapleura tetraptera, and Zingiber officinale. Amongst them, E. giganteus, I. cylindrica, P. capense, Tetrapleura tetraptera, and Xylopia aethiopica could combat multidrug-resistant (MDR) cancer cell lines. In polymer materials technology, replacing synthetic stabilizers with natural antioxidants is a current and developing issue. Cloves have antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, which is why they are often used in medicine and in gastronomy. Eugenol – the main component of clove oil, is also a strong antioxidant. The aim of the study was to analyze and compare the anti-aging effects of eugenol and cloves in epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) compositions. The 2,2′-azinobis- (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate (ABTS), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and CUPric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) tests showed the ability of plant materials to reduce free radicals, as well as iron and copper ions. ENR compositions with additives were characterized by a longer oxidation induction time (OIT). The samples after solar aging showed better resistance to elevated temperature and solar radiation, as evidenced by aging coefficients (K) calculated on the basis of mechanical properties and carbonyl indexes of samples with eugenol and cloves. Cinnamon is one of the most valuable natural resources that sustains life and exists freely in nature. Cinnamaldehyde is the primary compound in cinnamon oil. It has a unique structure that contains a benzene ring, an aldehyde group, and an unsaturated double bond. Cinnamaldehyde has been structurally modified to improve biological activity. In this research, cinnamaldehyde and nitrophenyl amines were reacted with sulfuric acid as a catalyst by refluxing and sonication. UV-Vis Spectroscopy, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR were used to validate the chemical structures. Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) revealed a new single spot formed by the reaction of cinnamaldehyde and 4-amino-2-nitrophenol. By refluxing for 2 hours or sonicating for 30 minutes, a novel imine chemical, 4-nitro-2-((3-phenylallylidene)amino)phenol, was effectively synthesized with a yield of 75.21% or 83.71%, respectively. This imine was obtained as a dark red powder with a melting point of 237 °C. Meanwhile, only sonication produced a novel product from the reaction of cinnamaldehyde and 4-nitroaniline. However, the structural elucidation has not yet been performed because the yield was so low. Surprisingly, there was no reaction between cinnamaldehyde and 2,4-dinitroaniline. It was most likely owing to the amine’s bulky structure and the presence of two nitro groups in the amine as electron-withdrawing groups that reduced the nucleophilicity of the amine. During the 1980s, a number of new protest movements emerged that protested against the welfare state and right-wing politics. Influenced by punk, anarchism and the libertarian left, activists often met in so-called autonomous social centers. In many European countries, resistance became contentious, but resistance also took the form of everyday practices. The aim of this article is to study political resistance in the 1980s Sweden, carried out by the cultural association Ultra between 1980 and 1988. Based on theories of everyday resistance, contentious politics and prefigurative politics, ideas, and practices in Ultrahuset (the Ultra house) are examined. I study how the everyday resistance developed toward a more contentious resistance, as the relationship with the local authorities changed, and how the concept of prefigurative politics contributes to an understanding of the relationship between everyday practices and resistance. Source material consists of texts and illustrations produced in Ultrahuset, media material and interviews with former members. The result show that the activism in Ultrahuset can be understood as a way of doing prefigurative politics through everyday resistance, but also that during the 1980s, when the relation between Ultra and the surrounding society changed, the resistance also changed, becoming more outward-looking and contentious.
