The Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is a universal packet switching and multiplexing technology designed to support data services. The network ATM layer relays cells which carry a label used for switching. ATM technology underlies future broadband integrated services digital networks and offers long-term benefits for service providers and users. However, issues on signalling and adaptation layer protocols, traffic control and connection usageenforcement still have to be specified.

Ultrawideband radio technology, which operates across a wide spectrum range, has been approved by the FCC for commercial use, although only for devices with a range of 30 feet or less.
