Abstract
- The switched digital video (SDV) is gaining popularity despite the dominance of packetized video on the Internet. This technology is a digital transport tool that effectively transfers circuit-switched video via clear channels. SDV is increasingly being used in such applications as 'virtual meetings,' remote shopping networks, surgical theaters and banking kiosks. The standardized SDV format known as H.320 is a 384-kbps standard introduced by the International Telecommunications Union in 1992.<br />SDV finds a robust market despite an Internet rush toward packetized video.
