Michelob Golden Draft beer from Anheuser-Busch Companies Inc. will be available in new packaging that protects the product from light. Market research found that many consumers liked clear bottles instead of brown bottles, but the brown bottles keep light from affecting the all-natural hops in the beer. The new Light-Tite packaging provides a light-controlled atmosphere, resealable flaps to protect unused bottles and a larger advertising space. Anheuser-Busch hopes to convey an upscale image with this new bottling and packaging.

Anheuser-Busch's (A-B) new beer cans are identical to their old cans, except that the new cans' lids have a 1/8-inch smaller diameter. A-B uses over 17 billion cans a year, and the new design will reduce the yearly amount of aluminum used in their production by 20 million pounds. Except for a machine-tooling change, the production process for the new cans is identical to that for the old cans.

Anheuser-Busch Companies Inc (A-B) will test market new fluted beverage cans and bottles for its Michelob Golden Draft brand of beer. The fluted metal cans have beveled edges for strength and are produced by American National Can Co. The beveled-edged glass bottles are produced by Anchor Glass Container Corp. A-B hopes the new packaging will increase brand identity and impart a sense of quality and tradition to consumers.
