The concern of this paper is to provide a number of 'seeds' for a reclaiming of art in education by placing emphasis upon art's pedagogy or art's education. The notion of reclaiming does not infer a return to a utopian past or to a halcyon future, but it invokes a reaffirmation of the adventure of events of art practice that can take us beyond ourselves towards new creative assemblages and possibilities for becoming‐with. Such reclaiming requires a culture of trust, care and response‐ability. In relation to art's pedagogy the paper calls for opening up what is formally recognised as 'practice' in art education to a sensing towards what might be obscured by such recognition and in doing so reshape our ideas and modes of practice. 3. 1. RELATION BETWEEN ART, DESIGN AND CRAFT: THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING ARTISTIC TECHNIQUES TEXTILE IN THE FORMATION OF FUTURE FASHION DESIGNERS.

HANDICRAFT ,TEXTILE arts ,FASHION designers ,REFLECTIVE learning ,EXPERIENTIAL learning ,AESTHETICS of art ,FASHION design - Abstract
This study started from the idea that knowledge of visual elements and aesthetics of textile arts, understanding contemporary textile techniques, is a form of reflective learning in which the practice (for example: physical actions in the fabric of the technique, touching and feeling the materials) can lead to the deepening of the creative process, contributing to the creation of an aesthetic that is not only visual, but also deeply material and even technical. This way of integrating the knowledge and values of art into fashion design in an experimental and reflexive manner can be a creative factor, therefore the analysis focused both on the idea of how fashion can be transformed through different ways of making textiles and on understanding the importance of knowing them. Art and artistic activities that play a significant role in the lives of both children and adults are an important requirement for all individuals. Cultures develop, expand, and enrich through artistic activities, which are important for the development of visual literacy, especially in social studies. The present study aims to determine the reflection of various artistic branches in the social studies course and the student interest and love that art is considered to evoke in the context of the social studies course. In the study, qualitative research methods and techniques were used to review relevant documents and determine participant views about the role of art in social studies. First, the current Turkish social studies curricula and textbooks were analyzed. Then, an interview form developed by the authors was applied to 80 students attending all grades in a public middle school and 3 teachers employed in these schools in one of the major cities in Turkey. The attributes employed by the teachers and students in the interview form were analyzed with thematic and content analysis. The study findings demonstrated that the curricula and textbook achievements that allow activities in several art branches are limited. However, despite the limitations, the study findings demonstrated that the students were interested in different art branches and evidenced the support of social studies in the development of interest and love for certain learning areas. The purpose of this article is to reflect on some relevant aspects that are part of the emotional dimension in order to understand, from a complex perspective, that framework that is interconnected as a fundamental element for the integral development of the human being. In addition, the existing link between emotion and art will be discussed as a means to express and represent the deepest thoughts and its relationship with educational processes for the accompaniment and support of children and young people in the recognition and regulation of what is feels, bearing in mind the current scenario where the predominance of rationality, instrumentalization and mercantilism have reduced the true meaning of teaching, which leads to facing new challenges in the search for a more humane education. This qualitative study explores how play informs the making process in a media arts environment. Drawing on Dewey's ([1938]1998). Concepts of experience, purpose, and freedom, we explore how play and making are employed in an out-of-school media arts environment. The purpose of this study is to examine one child's use of digital media in this media arts environment. We chronologically unfold one child's experience, which provides a more nuanced description of interactions with and use of the space, tools, and people – without the distraction of additional participants. The decision to examine one child, one environment eliminates the tendency to compare and contrast children and/or environments, allowing us to appreciate one child's playing and making with digital tools and physical materials in this media arts environment. This study is important as it leads us to questions to guide future research related to digital media as an appropriate tool for young children to play and make with – especially when employed in a media arts environment. art in education ,art instruction ,pandemic ,online teaching ,Education - Abstract
n the introductory part of the paper, based on the relevant and professional literature in the domain of art, the authors look at the significance of visual arts for the entire development and goodquality education of children. The total numer of lessons assigned for the school subject Art in the curricula for grades one to four of elementary education in Serbia is taken into consideration in order to point to the status of this subject in the lower grades of elementary school. The pandemics caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2 began in 2020 and it is still present in the world. It has redefined our way of living and made teachers look for new forms of organizing their lessons in line with the epidemiological measures. The aim of this paper is to investigate, in the context of Art instruction, how elementary school teachers have coped with the challenges created by the pandemic and determine whether this teaching area has changed its status relative to other teaching areas. The respondents to our questionnaire were 138 (N=138) elementary school teachers from different Serbian towns. The obtained results indicate that these teachers had to modify and adapt their teaching to a considerable extent. The conclusion is that elementary school teachers stress out the negative effects of the changes – a reduced number of Art lessons, shorter duration of lessons, the impossibility of pair and group work, as well as the introduction of online lessons – on the development of children’s art creativity.

ETHICS education , *IMMORALITY , *ART in education - Abstract
In this paper the potential in film for ethics education is considered, and the theory of educational ethicism is defended. Some key features of ethicism are firstly outlined. Bery's Gaut's argument about how artworks may teach ethics in an aesthetically meritorious way is also discussed. Two objections (from Matthew Kieran and Andrea Sauchelli) to Gaut's position are then considered. It is argued that Gaut's ethicism is not well placed to overcome these objections. However, I draw upon Paul Hirst to explain why a refined species of ethicism (educational ethicism) can surmount these objections. Educational ethicism holds that artworks with ethical themes be regarded as starting points for conversations about ethics rather than conveyers of definite ethical teachings that only a normatively specified audience can grasp. Three ways that film can possess potential for ethics education are also documented: through the moral growth of the audience, by helping them to deepen understanding of an aspect of ethical experience, and in developing theoretical understanding. Decision-makers in the field of education have always faced questions about the purpose of school and education. Is education meant to develop intellectual capacity, or does it have the role of developing skills and competences, of preparing the workforce for a constantly changing economy? The current discourse in education focuses on the adoption of standards, but they will matter less in a cyber world, in which, much more important will be the way of using the information. This study includes the role of art in education, focusing on how arts education could provide a way to adapt to this ever-changing environment, more energy, flexibility and confidence. Education for tomorrow does not mean limiting learning only to the assimilation of basic knowledge, through art or any other form of learning, but to how we can invest more closely and more carefully in the role that creativity can and should play in the training and preparation of young people.

- Abstract
«In a world where environmental challenges, education and activism converge, this is an important addition to the field of art and early childhood education. It identifies a post qualitative research approach and provides an ethical alternative to the difficult and urgent challenges facing future artist educators and researchers in Ireland today.» (Dr Dervil Jordan, Emeritus Professor of Education, NCAD) «This thought-provoking book is an essential read. Lucy's aesthetic lens offers a fresh perspective for early years professionals'as it reveals the infinite richness of children's learning with materials. It is full of AHA moments on the artfulness of everyday moments, you will think differently about the material world.» (Mary Skillington, Lecturer, Atlantic Technical University, Ireland) This work suggests that art has more to offer education than diverting activities grounded by ideas of human exceptionalism. Posthuman perspectives of everyday playful activity in Early Childhood Education and Care, can offer alternative ways of seeing and understanding nature/culture entanglements. Tuning in to young children's play with materials through a posthuman theoretical lens, can orientate adults'attention toward the innate artfulness of young children's everyday moments of learning and growth. This perspective reveals how such moments of intensity and learning always occur in complex relation with diverse others, human and non-human, natural and technological, living and non-living. This emphasises the undeniably rich, yet easily overlooked, relationship with the material and social complexities of the world, upon which all human learning and growth relies.

- Abstract
This volume explores the ways in which practicing K–12 art educators can engage with students to develop democratic habits. The contributors present case studies based on action research conducted in their own classrooms as part of their master's in arts education. The text is divided into three sections that correspond to habits the author-teachers cultivated in their classroom: choice, voice, and caring for community. Each author presents real-world examples for development of not only art skills, but also ways of being and interacting that allow humans to contribute meaningfully to the world. Readers will hear from art educators who strive to teach their students ownership and empowerment through problem-solving, independence, and responsibility. This timely book shows how art education is a bastion of freedom in public education, where students and teachers can think and act collaboratively and critically. Book Features:Offers examples of transformative teaching that give students voice, choice, and opportunities to care for community.Provides theory as well as replicable models teachers can use.Addresses the difficulty of balancing student and teacher needs within the politically embattled field of education.Shares the voices of art educators in Midwest classrooms ranging from elementary to high school, rural to urban communities.Contributors: Elizabeth Bloomberg, Jeffery Rufus Byrd, Ashley Cardamone, Kathryn Christensen, Michelle Cox, Jodi Fenton, Samantha Goss, Maddison Maddock, Wendy Miller, Sandra Nyberg, Lauren Roush, Elizabeth Sutton, and Heather Walker.

- Abstract
The focus of this edited book is to evoke and provoke conceptual conversations between early a/r/tographic publications and the contemporary scholarship of a/r/tographers publishing and producing today. Working around four pervasive themes found in a/r/tographic literature, this volume addresses relationality and renderings, ethics and embodiment, movement and materiality, and propositions and potentials. In doing so, it advances concepts that have permeated a/r/tographic literature to date. More specifically, the volume simultaneously offers a site where key historical works can easily be found and at the same time, offer new scholarship that is in conversation with these historical ideas as they are discussed, expanded and changed within contemporary contexts. The organizing themes offer conceptual pivots for thinking through how a/r/tography was first conceptualized and how it has evolved and how it might further evolve. Thus, this edited book affords an opportunity for all those working in and through a/r/tography to offer refined, revised, revisited or new conceptual understandings for contemporary scholarship and practice. - Abstract
This book provides answers to the following questions: How could visual art support us in reflecting about interculturality critically? When we look at, engage with and experience art, what is it that we can learn, unlearn and relearn about interculturality? The book adds to the multifaceted and multidisciplinary field of intercultural communication education by urging those working on the notion of interculturality (researchers, scholars and students) to give art a place in exploring its complexities. No knowledge background about art (theory) is needed to work through the chapters. The book helps us reflect on ourselves and on our engagement with the world and with others, and learn to ask questions about these elements. The authors draw on anthropology, linguistics, philosophy and sociology to enrich their discussions of critical interculturality.

- Abstract
Dynamic Play and Creative Movement offers effective and accessible methods to supplement elementary education for young children using dance, movement, and play. Imagination, physical energy, and the need for self-expression are childhood qualities recognized by parents but are not sufficiently valued to be applied to formal education. Yet when valued as natural endowments, they might intelligently be used to increase a child's perceptive abilities and self-confidence, essential to learning. These three qualities combine in dynamic play, a term devised by the author to describe an approach to learning. Through physical participation, children deal with concepts, ideas, and emotions while they reach out to touch a vast world of people, animals, nature, and activities. The chapters provide for improvisations in music, visual art, drama and stories in addition to topics related to the changing seasons, sports, school subjects, travel, games, and many other elements of the natural and man-made world. Research about the correlation of movement to brain activity is included to support the thesis that creative movement is an effective adjunct to learning. Therapists, counselors, and preschool and elementary teachers will find this easily adaptable material valuable in fostering perception, insight, and cognitive understanding in children.

During spring of the academic year 2020-2021, the English Didactics department of the Freie Universität Berlin offered a seminar on drama pedagogy. Given the pandemic and a syllabus which promised future teachers ‘teaching through actual classroom practice’ it was decided to take the in-person sessions between university students and grade six students online. The result of these collaborative drama lab sessions were Earth Speakr messages which, after being practiced online, were recorded in person at school in the Earth Speakr app by the English teacher, a university student assistant and the course instructor. Once uploaded, these messages become part of the global Earth Speakr artwork initiated by the artist and climate activist Olafur Eliasson. This article lays out some of the parameters, contexts and challenges of the sessions. These are complemented by individual reflections as well as outstanding questions for further research. Linguistic actions used in performative teaching, such as acting during an online guessing game or using gestures to practice pronouncing a word can have transformative effects. Even during pandemic times, there is evidence that these experiences can help learners and teachers to connect and find their own place in the social worlds they move in.

The aim of present study is to decide the effect of Visual Arts Education delivered with the activities developed as a part of STEAM approach, which is based on the integration of Art into the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, on the attitude towards the disciplines that constitute this approach. Views upon STEM approach also are identified. This study, which was carried out in a public school based in a central district city in the Western Black Sea region of Turkey, lasted 6 weeks as a part of the Visual Arts course. There are 48 students studying in 6th grade as for research sample, 25 of which are experimental and 23 are control group. Embedded mixed design, one of the mixed design types was used in the study. Quantitative data were obtained with STEAM Attitude Scale using a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group. In qualitative terms, data was collected by semi-structured interviews on the basis of case study. STEAM Attitude Scale data were analyzed by dependent / independent groups t test and ANCOVA. Content analysis was used for analysing the semi-structured interview form data. When the research findings were examined, a significant difference was found in favor of the post-test between the experimental group STEAM Attitude Scale pre-test-post-test mean scores. As a result of the analysis of the post-test scores of the experimental and control groups, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group. With the STEAM approach, it has been concluded that visual arts education leads to an increase in individuals' attitudes towards the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics disciplines that form STEAM. When the interview findings were examined, it was found that the positive opinions of the experimental group regarding the process carried out with the STEAM approach were intense. Based upon the findings, it has been determined that the application has a helpful effect on the development of attitude towards STEAM disciplines. Suggestions have been made to researchers and program makers to clarify the framework of the STEAM approach and to enrich the application examples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
From the award-winning authors of StoryMaking and Makerspaces comes ArtMaking.ArtMaking is a process of making meaning by reading children's books, investigating how this meaning is expressed and then inviting the child to use art to communicate their own meaning. It is the perfect language to give all children a voice, regardless of age or ability. In ArtMaking children are invited to “read their worlds” as they learn about images, explore materials and elements of art (color, lines, shapes, textures, spaces, design) and communicate their thinking through their own art processes and products. Along the way these skills build a strong literacy foundation.Using artwork as well as illustrations from children's books as provocations, children make meaning with their visual literacy skills as they use the receptive and productive languages of literacy and art to make connections. When children engage in ArtMaking they apply the highest level of the comprehension and visual literacy continuums to new art experiences and makerspaces. They aren't just making art, they are making meaning of the book and the world.

- Abstract

- Abstract

- Abstract
By foregrounding a first-person perspective, this text enacts and explores self-reflection as a mode of inquiry in educational research and highlights the centrality of the individual researcher in the construction of knowledge.Engaging in particular with the work of Thomas Merton through a dialogical approach to his writings, Self and Wisdom in Arts-Based Contemplative Inquiry in Education offers rich examples of personal engagement with text and art to illustrate the pervasive influence of the personal in reflective, narrative, and aesthetic forms of inquiry. Chapters consider methodological and philosophical implications of self-study and contemplative research in educational contexts, and show how dialogic approaches can enrich empirical forms of inquiry, and inform pedagogical practice. In its embrace of a contemplative voice within an academic treatise, the text offers a rich example of arts-based contemplative inquiry. This unique text will be of interest to postgraduate scholars, researchers, and academics working in the fields of educational philosophy, arts-based and qualitative research methodologies and Merton studies.

Two university art educators engaged in research to explore issues of race and representation through examining the histories of race-based mascots at their two Midwestern US universities. Collaborative inquiry allowed for reflective practice, dialogue and critical listening as part of extended conversations to examine the stereotyping of Indigenous
1 culture and images with students and community members. Issues of race, representation, stereotyping and systemic racism were explored with university art education students, faculty and Myaamia citizens (Miami Tribe of Oklahoma) in a workshop setting. Conversations within the workshop aimed to extend understandings about the cultural and artistic traditions of the Miami Tribe and strengthen cross-institutional and community relationships. Post-workshop analysis of the collaborators' correspondences was analysed to reveal three themes: relationships and voice, representation and acknowledgement. Reconciliation is discussed as ongoing and mutual effort involving a continuous process of critical reflection, listening and dialogue necessary for building relationships and to learn directly from Indigenous peoples. The 26/11 Mumbai attacks in India severely impacted the already strained Indo–Pak political relations and fuelled prejudice against the common people of Pakistan. Since the attacks, Indian people have found various expressions of collective memory and ways to commemorate the incident. While these serve as a remembrance of the attack, it also reinforces negative attitudes towards Pakistan and its people, hindering any prospects of peace and reconciliation. This article describes a peace education through art initiative implemented in a high school in Mumbai. It draws from a synergy of theoretical concepts in peace, reconciliation and conflict transformation for its curricular framework that has three inquiry processes: Examine–Envision–Envisage. This article describes the implementation and outcomes of the initiative that support the value of an integrated peace- and reconciliation-focused art education pedagogy aimed at promoting reconciliation in relation to ongoing/intractable conflicts. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of addressing negative emotions inherent in ongoing conflicts and how empathy might contribute towards reducing prejudice towards the 'Other'. - Abstract
With lots of examples and color images, this resource is both a foundational text and a practical guidebook for bringing contemporary art into elementary and middle school classrooms as a way to make learning joyful and meaningful for all learners. The authors show how asking questions and posing problems spark curiosity and encourage learners to think deeply and make meaningful connections across the curriculum. At the center of their approach is creativity, with contemporary visual art as its inspiration. The text covers methods of creative inquiry-based learning, art and how it connects to the “big ideas” addressed by academic domains, flexible structures teachers can use for curriculum development, creative teaching strategies using contemporary art, and models of art-based inquiry curriculum. Book Features:Provides research-based project ideas and curriculum models for arts integration.Shows how Project Zero's flexible structures and frameworks can be used to develop creative inquiry and an arts integration curriculum.Explains how contemporary visual art connects to the four major disciplines—science, mathematics, social studies, and language arts.Includes full-color images of contemporary art that are appropriate for elementary and middle school learners.Demonstrates how arts integration can and should be substantive, multi-dimensional, and creative.“If you long for an arts classroom that connects students to the astonishingly interesting world they live in and want some helpful guidance on how to do it, this is the book for you!”—From the Foreword by Connie Stewart, University of Northern Colorado_x000B_

- Abstract
This book concentrates on the deep historical, political, and institutional relationships between art, education, and excess. Going beyond field specific discourses of art history, art criticism, philosophy, and aesthetics, it explores how the concept of excess has been important and enduring from antiquity through contemporary art, and from early film through the newer interactive media. Examples considered throughout the book focus on disgust, grandiosity, sex, violence, horror, disfigurement, endurance, shock, abundance, and emptiness, and frames them all within an educational context. Together they provide theories and classificatory systems, historical and political interpretations of art and excess, examples of popular culture, and suggestions for the future of educational practice.

- Abstract
The legacy of Graeme Chalmers's research in art education underpins a foundational understanding of critical multiculturalism and offers a rigorous analysis of oppression and institutionalization of unequal power relations. His work begins in stories involving disruption and advocacy, and how when working in collaboration, we may then begin to share lived knowledge in ways that bring sociopolitical dimensions to the fore to help us move towards breaking cycles of divisiveness. International scholars share both reflective commentaries that look back upon Graeme Chalmers's contributions, as well as offer diverse perspectives that look forward to the enduring potentialities and possibilities of his work today and into the future. These perspectives are presented alongside thirty years of his scholarship creating new insights and provocations that will continue to influence our collective work for social justice. Art, Culture, and Pedagogy: Revisiting the Work of F. Graeme Chalmers holds timeless wisdom, articulating Graeme's deep respect for cultural pluralism, his passionate embrace of inclusivity and diversity, and his dedication to social justice issues – all issues of compelling urgency today. His distinguished international leadership and his pioneering ideas continue to be adopted, engaged, and applied at all levels of art education.

- Abstract
This book highlights the unique and co-generative intersections of the arts and literacy that promote critical and socially engaged teaching and learning. Based on a year-long ethnography with two literacy teachers and their students in an arts-based public high school, this volume makes an argument for arts-based education as the cultivation of a critical aesthetic practice in the literacy classroom. Through rich example and analysis, it shows how, over time, this practice alters the in-school learning space in significant ways by making it more constructivist, more critical, and fundamentally more relational.

- Abstract
Arts-Based Research betekent letterlijk: op kunsten gebaseerd onderzoek.

This study outlines a multi‐year collaboration journey between academics in two widely disparate disciplines: art/design and business/management. Eventually this culminated in co‐designing and co‐developing a folded paper zine, and related processes, to improve private reflective practice, particularly of managers and students of management. This zine co‐design journey was articulated through the lens of Schumpeter's hybridity perspective 'new combinations', in the context of transdisciplinarity. As both commercial and social organisations face increasing complexity and uncertainty, the rationally oriented tools developed for planning and decision‐making in more stable times need to be augmented by those which assume or even welcome ambiguity and not‐knowing. This creates an opportunity to draw on art‐based methods such as zines, given that the arts acknowledge, value and address such uncertainty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article describes a qualitative study of pre-service art education students that was designed to explore relationships between mindfulness, self-inquiry, and artistic practices. The researchers, who are art educators, were curious about how mindfulness practices might connect, overlap or influence the personal artistic practice of the participants. Although mindfulness is often used as an intervention to counter the stresses of school and teaching, mindfulness can also be thought of as a counter cultural phenomenon that explores possibilities of a critical pedagogy. While mindfulness and self-care practices can have important positive benefits and may lead to deeper personal understanding, these practices might also have more problematic purposes such as helping teachers and students adapt to oppressive social, political, or cultural positionings in education. The study explored mindfulness as a form of education through the practice of art-making. Artistic applications of data visualization emerged as a significant connection between art and self-inquiry. The study investigated how the critical responsiveness and awareness of the artist might contribute to an understanding of mindfulness and create an awareness of how mindfulness might be practiced within existing social and cultural structures. This article examines the efficacy of various interdisciplinary methods in creating more effectively developed teaching and learning of English poetry. Worldwide, poetry's prestige in academia within the humanities curriculum has declined. In Saudi universities, poetry is one of the most difficult literary courses taught in English departments, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University is no exception. For these reasons, there is a need to explore new pedagogies in poetry teaching. This article introduces a new intersection of verbal and visual arts contexts in female basic- and advanced-level classrooms. This paper focuses on twofold approaches, first is the theoretical (verbal) where the overall artistic evaluation is delineated. Second is the empirical approach (visual) when the concrete pictures of the poems are made. Next, the paper analyses the pictures through the lens of multimodal theory highlighting the learning outcomes and skills the arts-based classroom generates, amongst which are creative thinking, emotional intelligence and problem solving.
