AC. Relationship of LIS with other fields. - Abstract
Ornithology is one of the important branches of modern-day biology and deals with the methodologies and aspects related to the study of birds. This study collected a total number of 2699 keywords extracted from the titles, abstracts, and objects’ captions of 50 top-cited articles from the domain of Ornithology have been linguistically analyzed for this purpose. A total number of 938 subject-specific root words have been obtained from the analysis and also found that they are borrowed from 88 different subjects. Considering the existing theories of mode of formation of subjects in LIS field and viewing the results of the data analysis tables, it is interpreted that ornithology is multidisciplinary in nature and its mode of formation is distillation of Kind-2.

Berd Frohmann’s works have contributed to debates developing the field of Information Science, particularly in Brazil. Highlighted in this text are guiding elements of his neodocumentalism proposal concerning the documenting process. The aim in this context is to situate perspectives of the documentary practices, i.e. the documentation agency or documentation, in materiality regimes, based on Frohmann’s works, focusing on Foucault and Latour’s starting points. To achieve this, multiple aspects of the materiality of the document are considered, from a stratum of Frohmann's work, which feature mutual complementarity in at least three compositions: a) the permanence and strength of the materiality of the utterance influencing social and discursive practices in certain forms of institutionality (foucaultian archeology); b) the strength of the materiality of the document stemming from the relational dimension of power from the notion of device (foucaultian genealogy); and c) the materiality of the discourse, reaching materiality in artifacts and documents, produced from actors’ associations (latourian perspective). In these, both immanence and materiality value are regarded as relational toward the documentation agency, depending on the forms of institutionality guiding and guided by the actors, their associations, their relations of power, and their effects.

In this research, the task of demonstrating that the library (as an institution) and the librarian (as a professional) are facilitating agents of democratic processes, which must be directed towards achieving the autonomy of citizenship, thanks to social circulation, was undertaken. of the information. In Chapter 1, discusses the way in which Mexican democracy —founded on a constitutional rule of law— faces the challenge of guaranteeing access to information in a transparent manner, by supporting activities in the matter to increase citizen participation. In Chapter 2, the mechanisms through which the right to information is constituted as an essential element that allows generating conditions of equality in multicultural environments immersed in a globalized regime were specified. This right must advance according to the development of the informational society, especially in its relationship with the myriad of digital technologies, on which it is materially supported. Informational self-determination is not limited solely to official decision-making processes, but also contemplates the strengthening of the conditions of social justice. As a corollary, in Chapter 3 the routes, paths and challenges that a documentary information professional must undertake so that they can materialize their social dedications, under the protection of the right to information, as a fundamental human right and as a constitutional prerogative, were specified. The task that librarians and archivists have before them is of the utmost importance for the procurement and defense of the right to information. As part of their mission, they must recognize that information needs are legitimate basic needs, in addition to mitigating injustices and information asymmetries, for which they will have to devise inclusion strategies (both in the space of flows and in the space of places).

Modern academic librarians strive to qualitatively meet the information needs of their users. At the same time, librarians seek to take an active part in the organization and conduct of research. In this paper, we present the successful experience of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University (Ukraine) in working on the wiki project “Dictionary of Borys Grinchenko” which uses elements of digital humanities, citizen science and gamification. The main aim of this project is to involve university students in getting acquainted with the Dictionary of the famous Ukrainian ethnographer and ethnographer Borys Grinchenko (1863–1910). During the project, students compete among themselves who will add the most quality explanations and visualizations of the Grinchenko’s Dictionary words to the University wiki portal. The results show that this project not only promotes the development of university web resources but also promotes cultural heritage, develop successful team building, helps to the involvement of students in research activities. This experience will be useful for other academic libraries looking for ways to join the digital humanities and can be replicated in small, low-budget academic institutions.

The CTBTO Library's main goal is to support novel strategy development by experts, ensuring sources of reliable information as well as keeping up to date the community with the latest research about the four main monitoring technologies of the verification regime by providing access to technical and scientific databases to the entire PTS. The CTBTO Library, as part of the Capacity Building Section, IDC Division (IDC/CBT), was tasked to develop a map of knowledge to understand accurately the specific information needed by the users, as well as to learn how CTBTO experts communicated with the scientific community. One of the best tools of Bibliometrics in Library Science to address this challenge is the social network analysis approach. This framework allows for identifying how the knowledge grows and learning when, how and who has established connections. The network visualization represents with bubbles the number of publications with links, direct connection and interaction in co-authorship, on the same organization or with many others every time one author recognizes its affiliation; countries in this analysis represent the collaboration between CTBTO State Signatories. This study provides insights where CTBTO may develop capacities with other institutions in terms of seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound and radionuclide monitoring technologies to achieve its goal.

The headways and the democratization in the access to electronic tools for musicians have experienced a considerable increase, both in diversity and versatility of contexts. In this digital environment, libraries may act with the purpose to offering services that are quite unlikely in previous years. On the occasion of the centenary’s ephemeris of the Catalan cuplé, a pilot project with this musical heritage was proposed to the Library of Catalonia. The main objective of this project was the conversion of a score set of this music genre to its digital equivalent. In this way, the next following tasks were considered: the exploration of the maturity of Optical Music Recognition’s technologies, the appraisal of open-source music notation software’s and the planning of contexts and digital products to help with the promotion of the research and the dissemination of the Catalan musical heritage.

With brushstrokes of humour and irreverent language, the characters in this work refer to problems in their academic work in the areas of scientific communication, social and health issues. Alex, a Chilean-French professor hired to propose a predictive model of social outbursts, invites his colleagues to participate in a puzzle and develop their own models to solve the country's problems. To do so, he proposes three basic stages or principles: to free oneself, to create a good world for everyone and finally to create a good world for each one.

The media are a vital component of the democratic process, as they connect citizens with the actions of their leaders and provide a forum for debate and opinion formation. However, it is often assumed that audiences are a tabula rasa, defenseless against the almost absolute persuasive/manipulative power of the media. Yet, the reality of media effects on the public is far more intricate. Throughout these pages, the main scientific paradigms and theories that have attempted to explain this matter over the last century are summarized. The overview begins with the precientific origin of the discipline in the 1920s, when the media were regarded as all-powerful actors capable of manipulating the masses at will. A few decades later, the field would take a turn towards the opposite paradigm, one in which the media had minimal or at least limited persuasive capacity. In the 1960s, with the advent of television, social scientists revisited the idea (in a nuanced way) of strong effects, but this time with greater theoretical and empirical support. To conclude, the exposition delves into how the accumulated insights from the past eight decades work together to elucidate the persuasive effects of the media in today’s setting, characterized by fragmented audiences, the ubiquity of the internet and social networks, and the emergence of artificial intelligence.

This article analyzes a training experience developed in a digital environment, aimed at people over 55 and taught from a university library. Its objective was to contribute to training in media and information skills by means of a workshop on the use of the catalog, access to electronic resources and participation in social networks and communication channels. Participation was 60.49% of the total registered, with a fulfillment of expectations of 4.68 out of 5. Some limitations were the date of the activity, the gender gap and not having offered further training. As conclusion, the participation of university libraries in the training of older people has strategic value and is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals related to inclusion, access to information, lifelong learning, the fight against inequalities and the extension of the use of technologies.

Public and public access libraries are organized for the provision of a differentiated set of reading goods. They declare to be open institutions for the use of the public. We address the characteristics of the provision and uses of goods in public libraries, referring to the complexity of these characteristics. The theme of library economics and public reading needs to be deepened to build reflection and proposal on public policies of culture, including policies of public reading. We advance the need to understand some lines of economic thought about reading goods, the market, and valuation, sharing and enjoyment of cultural goods. We focus on the economy of public reading in Portugal and the provision of services and goods that propitiate their shared and/or common usage, while acknowledging that there may similarities with other locations and other areas of culture. We reflect on the current relevance of public policies for reading in libraries and on the need to think about public and common modes of provision of cultural goods and services.

Teaching role of library staff is studied as established in the national and international professional frameworks and guidelines (CCB, REBIUN, ECIA, ALA, ACRL, IFLA), as well as the main aspects dealt with in professional literature. The specialized and academic publications analyzed deal with aspects such as the evolution of the concept; the identity, status and perception of library staff as teachers; the main responsibilities that are assumed and the need for an adequate initial and lifelong education in pedagogical theories and practices. It is concluded that professional reference frameworks are clearly established and that there is a growing international bibliography that facilitates access to research results and documented reflection on the matter. However, there are notable differences in terms of the perception and status of the teaching librarian between the Anglo-Saxon and Spanish spheres, caused both by the different institutional arrangements and by the historical trajectory of the profession in different contexts. This fact, far from assuming an obstacle, it could be understood as an incentive to value this professional facet, as an opportunity to make visible the richness of library work, on which the design of the training activities that are taught from the libraries is based.

There is currently an obvious concern about the dilemmas, perplexities and fatigue of ethics, which are predominantly assumed in the field of philosophical research, and from there to other disciplines. This text proposes to raise an ethical proposal of an ontocentric and hermeneutic (macroethical) cut, and the purpose is to apply it to Library Science. This proposal would not only serve to give a turn to the construction of deontological codes of professional library associations but also to explore the values and principles that support them, which implies inquiring into the librarian's personal socio-framework (mission, evolution, self-understanding). The proposal will be in line with Luciano Floridi's philosophy of information and various theorists from other latitudes, since it is a plural and integrative discourse. Human beings do not discover or invent the world, we just design it. We understand it only to the extent that we understand their models and their representations. This is a symptom that occurs in deontological ethics: we try to enclose moral actions in ethical models and systems. Philosophy of information represents a new way of conceiving the world of information and, therefore, its ethical dimension.

The work brings together exploratory research and theoretical reflection on the relations between institutional spaces in the area of culture-information and the territories and communities in which they are registered. The focus of the discussion was to realize that defining today what would be a Culture and Information Unit (CIU) has become increasingly difficult, given the variety and complexity of possible profiles they can adopt. From examples of initiatives in the cities of São Paulo, Medellín and Madrid, the discussion of some related topics, such as mediation, mediatization and cultural collectives, is undertaken. Reflecting on these experiences, we raise the possibility that these units can increasingly incorporate the cultural practices of the subjects, increasingly mediated/ mediatizated by information and communication technologies (ICT). An aspect related to the hybridity of the spaces configured by the CIU is also related to the set of subjects involved in the processes that occur there and their relations with the urban contexts increasingly marked by the information flows. How do CIU align with these social and cultural movements? Based on this question, we also sought to systematize some reference points for infocultural policies and actions within the CIU

Introduction: this work is based on a historical-sociological approach, with the intention of using the conceptual dialogue of the social sciences with the informational concepts in the reorganization of the culture of the Paiter-Suruí ethnic group in its relation with contemporary culture and the digital world. Far beyond cultural exchanges and impositions, the imperative of acquisition through the social appropriation of technologies, communication and information (ICT) induced the Paiter-Suruí to a cultural adaptation and resistance to the network society. Objective: the paper proposes to present the process of transition from oral memory to digital memory. Methodology: This is a case study with documentary survey of the period of 2006: Paiterey Garah Indigenous Land Management Plan, Ethnozoneament and Oral Transcriptions to the present day of the Paiter-Suruí partnership with Google Inc., bibliographical review of information science, dialoguing with the social sciences. Results: the research reveals the process of cultural transition through social appropriation, reflecting the consequences, pros, cons and perspectives. Conclusions: social appropriation did not replace Paiter-Suruí´s oral tradition. Their expressions extended and the digital media became one of their presentations. The preservation of culture continues to be oral, but virtual sharing with other cultures announces them to the world. Their frontiers expanded beyond the real territory, their virtual expansion allowed them visibility and that, now, their voice echoes.

From the review of the most significant bibliography, the role that the library plays in the internationalization of the university is analyzed. In order to move forward in this field, it would be very convenient that Spanish academic libraries focus their resources and services in terms of internationalization, investigate the different library fields of activity, and publish outcomes. In the Spanish context, university library should be taken into account as an agent of internationalization, including this role in their strategic planning so that it becomes a transversal element of many of its goals and objectives.

During its first stage, the Annals of Common Education (1858-1875) made known the bases of the Sarmiento educational project with a view to its implementation. Among them, the multiple initiatives of its founder and Juana Manso stand out to implement public reading policies designed to spread this practice among the common population. One of the main strategies was the founding of popular libraries in the interior of the country. After promoting the first one in San Juan, Sarmiento entrusted her friend to continue in Chivilcoy. For this, she launched a series of actions, from requesting donations to organizing conferences as shows to raise funds, to the transfer of her personal library to provide for that of this town. Everything was published and commented on in the Annals, also strategically. In this work we follow the itinerary of those publications that allow us to know the achievements and vicissitudes experienced by Juana at the dawn of the foundation of this well-known popular library.

Objetive. Questioning whether government archiving is really being an instrument in the fight against corruption, or is it just part of a discourse that continues to perpetuate a corrupt system. Method. Documentary analysis of archival processes and archival laws in Mexico applied to the spectrum of corruption. Results. The archival control instruments (ICA): if they are aligned with the functions, attributions and procedures that are carried out, if they are updated or if they do not exist. Conclusions. The way in which corruption is characterized in Mexico limits the identification and problematization of other aspects that are affected by it and that may be relevant to combat it, as is the case of Archival, which, being an undervalued area and distant from society, it is susceptible to being manipulated or applied incorrectly or tendentiously without this being evident, precisely because of the lack of knowledge that the population has regarding it.

Although there is no legal obstacle within the organization, the invisible barriers that prevent women from coming to senior management positions are called glass ceiling syndrome; in the literature. The main reason for choosing gender discrimination as the subject of this study is that this issue can be encountered at all levels of business life as well as for women working in libraries, information center, etc. and it puts them at a disadvantage. The starting point of this assumption has been that the students who preferred the Information and Records Management Departments, which provide undergraduate education in universities from the past to the present, were predominantly female students, then this weight continued in their professional life, but the situation was reversed in the management levels. Despite this, it is interesting to see that this important subject has not been explored in the librarianship literature until now. The aim of the study is to investigate whether the glass ceiling syndrome has an effect on the promotion of female information professionals to managerial positions. In this study, the data about the information professionals studying and working in this field were turned into statistical tables and an evaluation was made based on these results by considering the reasons for bringing men to the managerial positions in a female-dominated profession. As a result of the evaluation of the data, the assumption that the initial glass ceiling syndrome was an obstacle in the professional careers of female information professionals was also confirmed.

The traditional view regarding valuation is established both in archives and in libraries, referring to their social and heritage values, however, within those same values, a topic that has been left forgotten is the study and determination of the economic value of the documentary resources that they have, which has resulted in a segmented perspective in relation to the heritage aspect that archive funds and library collections represent as part of the assets of the people and institutions to which they belong. In this sense, the objective is to show the economic valuation or appraisal as a highly specialized activity, which can be applied in Archives and Libraries, identifying in which cases or situations the different types of economic values can be used that from Accounting are allocate for the goods.

To respond to the proposed objective, a questionnaire with mixed characteristics –quantitative andqualitative– was applied, which was answered by 14 academics who valued the relevance of the proposal and suggested a set ofadjustments for its application. Among the conclusions are: the contributions that "journalism for learning" implies in the way offacing university teaching didactics, since it becomes a potential tool that will help students to become responsible for their ownlearning, being potentially replicable in other formative contexts.

Based on a brief review of the most recent evolu-tion stages of the public management, emphasizing the role that information management has had in them, the open government model is introduced as a tool of the collaborative government to form an objectively informed society. With this aim, the pillars of the open government model are explained, finding open government data as its main ally to make government's actions transparent and involve citizenship in the decision-making process. We conclude locating intermediary agents -including librarians- as bridging agents joining open govern-ment data and population through the development of platforms and skills included in the data-literacy concept.

India is a country located in southern Asia. With a population of over 1.3 billion people, in 29 states and 7 union territories, India is the most populous democracy in the world. Every state has unique traditional clothes that women wear. However there are three prominent types of clothes worn by women in India i.e. Sari, Salwar Kameez and Kurti. Over time, the sense of dressing has evolved and changed. Due to factors like globalisation and westernisation, today’s women take a modern approach when it comes to dress. The paper focused on female librarians’ clothing in India. The survey was conducted by inviting women librarians in every state to give their opinions about today’s clothing styles and their preferences of clothes for daily use and for special occasions such as conferences/ workshops/meetings, etc. The study also explored piercing and tattooing styles and their preferences, and use of jewellery by women library professionals. It was found that Salwar Kameez, Chudidar/Kurta and Saree were most preferred on weekdays, similar outfits were preferred on weekends or Saturdays including Kurti with jeans. Almost all feel comfortable and confident in the outfits they commonly wear. Respondents select outfits considering their profession and status. The majority felt that clothing/outfits have the influence on approachability of students/library users. Jewellery and other accessories were preferred by a moderate number of respondents whereas tattooing practice was totally absent. In case of stereotyping of librarians, respondents felt that librarians have had not been stereotyped in media as far as Indian media is concerned.

As part of the 50th anniversary of EINA Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona, the History and Design Studies Research Group (GRHED) and the EINA Archive have produced a chronology that summarises the fifty years of the institution's history, from its foundation at the height of Francoism to the present day. It is an informational project, but one that, without neglecting academic rigour, aims to place EINA in the historical-social and cultural setting of the last five decades. The first part of the chronology, corresponding to the period between 1953 and 1980, places the background, the founding and the early years of the school in the context of a Francoist Spain that, more than a decade after the end of the Civil War and the initial severe repression, has relaxed slightly, favouring a more propitious scenario for the arrival of new educational experiences whose principles incorporate the ideas of progress and modernisation of society. Another of its main characteristics is the fact of having been undertaken from the perspective of the digital humanities. The digital humanities are an area of research, teaching and creation in which the studies of the different disciplines related to human culture and computer science converge, tackling projects such as the design and implementation of collections and digital repertories, the analysis and visualisation of large volumes of cultural data, and digital publishing in new formats of academic production in the humanities. The aim of the paper is to place the EINA chronology project in the context of the digital humanities, addressing aspects that range from the conception of the initial proposal to its final design.

Logic as a philosophical discipline had a radical change from the argumentative perspective of the new rhetoric. This led to the division of logic into two areas: 1) formal logic and 2) informal logic. The types of arguments within informal logic are effective in persuading the audience, but they can be fallacious instruments, such is the case of arguments from authority and ad verecundiam fallacies. Authoritative arguments are an indispensable part of scientific communication as an essential requirement in the construction of knowledge. This contribution is focused on showing some inappropriate uses of arguments from authority that can constitute fallacies in the construction and socialization of science.

This paper aims to present the proposition of mediation of information “in presence” within a cosmopolitical dimension. To do so, it approaches information mediation contexts and their implications for research, education and professional performance in the field of information science, and it presents the reach of associations between human and non-human actors, showing implicators and the implicated, and information users and non-users as implicated, in traditional or contemporary modes of mediation. It criticizes this initial composition as it dialogues with principles of situationality, transience, and symmetry among the actors. Four situations were hence outlined: 1. Professor-researcher and information professional may implicate the cultural dimension of users and non-users; 2. Information user as an implicator and information professional as the implicated; 3. Professor-researcher as the implicated in teaching and in research on information mediation; and 4. Professor-researcher and information professional implicated and are implicated by non-human actors. This study concludes that “being in presence” in mediation contexts becomes a point of contact between cosmologies. The approach highlights the transience in the conditions of implicators and the implicated.

Hard to say what knowledge is. The more this concept is discussed, the more divergent opinions are. Epistemology is the theory of knowledge, and one of the characteristic questions of epistemology concerns what all the myriad kinds of knowledge we ascribe to ourselves have in common. A major distinction between different types of knowledge is descriptive, declarative, or propositional knowledge (which requires a greater degree of intellectual sophistication on the part of the knowledge seeker) and knowledge or skill knowledge. For a description, statement, or assertion to be knowledge, it must be a belief, be true, and be justified. A statement of faith is an expression of belief in someone or something. Belief must be true to be knowledge. Plato, in the Gorgias, argues that faith is the most frequently invoked bearer of truth. In many of Plato's dialogues, such as the Meno and especially the Theaetetus, Socrates regards knowledge as true belief explained or defined in some way. Justification for belief involves a good reason for doing so. The definition of knowledge as justified true belief was widely accepted until 1960, when the American philosopher Edmund Gettier provoked major widespread discussion.

Taking as reference the classification of values made by Riegl for monuments and by Brandi for works of art in order to be able to evaluate them as heritage objects within the methodology used by Conservation-Restoration, an analytical crossing is made with the contributions made by Schellenberg and Wyffells from the Archival discipline; the first by formulating the notions of primary and secondary values, the second from the theoretical approach of the "Document Life Cycle". This analysis makes it possible to show the symbiotic relationship between the two disciplines, materialized in the valuation or identification of attribute values as a substantial part of the methodological component used by the two specialties when establishing the relevance of the objects of their field of study to decide regarding the final destination of the same.

The domains of computational social anthropology and computational ethnography refer to the computational processing or computational modelling of data for anthropological or ethnographic research. In this context, the article surveys the use of computational methods regarding the production and the representation of knowledge. The ultimate goal of the study is to highlight the significance of modelling ethnographic data and anthropological knowledge by harnessing the potential of the semantic web. The first objective was to review the use of computational methods in anthropological research focusing on the last 25 years, while the second objective was to explore the potential of the semantic web focusing on existing technologies for ontological representation. For these purposes, the study explores the use of computers in anthropology regarding data processing and data modelling for more effective data processing. The survey reveals that there is an ongoing transition from the instrumentalisation of computers as tools for calculations, to the implementation of information science methodologies for analysis, deduction, knowledge representation, and reasoning, as part of the research process in social anthropology. Finally, it is highlighted that the ecosystem of the semantic web does not subserve quantification and metrics but introduces a new conceptualisation for addressing and meeting research questions in anthropology.

The Web is the privileged place for seeking information. The potential of the so-called semantic web to enhance retrieval of relevant information seems essential. In Information Science (IS), this idea was developed from the Otlet’s “analogic semantic web”, justifying the connection between the Semantic Web (SW) and the field of IS. We aimed to exam and analyze the presence of subjects related to SW in the output of IS master and PhD courses in Portugal and Brazil (2005-2015). Specifically, we aimed to: identify IS courses, master's dissertations (MD) and PhD thesis (PD) associated to SW; identify the points of confluence between the IS and the SW in these works; characterize the academic profile of these works’ authors and advisors. Based on a qualitative approach, we performed a literature review and an empirical study focused on content analysis of the retrieved works (RCAAP and OASISbr). As results, we have: verified 4 unique records in RCAAP and 40 in OASISbr; identified 4 Master’s and 3 PhD courses (Portugal) and 16 masters and 9 PhD courses (Brazil); retrieved no MD/PD in Portugal, 16 MD and 5 PD in Brazil; identified 3 confluence points: a) mutual contribution (62%), b) WS as an interdisciplinary theme (29%) and c) complementary knowledge (9%); identified 11 works (52%) were the respective researchers have training in IS and Computer Science (CS). The study points to the WS as a field of investigation in IS, although essentially theoretical, insofar as practical interdisciplinary works in CI/CS are incipient and not representative.

This study investigates the relationship between School Library and Students’ achievement on a population sample of 9896 Schools. Many international researches confirmed the importance of the School Library for the Students learning. Recently the IEA PIRLS survey has revealed a positive relationship between the Reading comprehension performance and the size of the School Library collection. In this paper, we verify the relation between the results of INVALSI tests in Italian and Mathematics - on school grades 5,8,10 - with the presence and functioning of the School Library. The information on the School Library comes from the School Questionnaire compiled by the School Principal in the course of the Self-evaluation Report. The analysis confirm a positive relationship in each school grade and in both subjects of investigation.

In this paper we evaluate the theoretical assumptions of the discourses of the institutional repository (IR) innovation discipline. We argue that current theoretical assumptions of the discipline are limiting. We then propose that a new theoretical assumption that sees IR stakeholders as rational social actors is likely to aid the emergence of new insights in the IR discipline. To achieve our aim, we adopted insights in the institutional theory, social shaping of technology theory and stakeholders theory. We used insights in these three theories to propose a new theoretical assumption for the IR innovation discipline. The proposed theoretical assumption is vital because it explicates the importance of identifying IR stakeholders and how their everyday life realities lead to the construction of institutions which inform their concepts of IR and assumptions about how it should be innovated. We conclude that the theoretical assumption that evolved in this study is helpful to the IR community in two ways. First it provides the community with new constructs and concepts that are useful for empirical studies on IR innovation. Second, it facilitates the development of a model that explains how to overcome practical IR innovation barriers. From a wider perspective, our study supports socio-technical oriented approaches to investigating and implementing IR innovation.

In recent years, the repercussions of disruptive technologies have recalibrated many of the edges of the national legal systems. The fact that several provisions of the legislation resort to digital technologies to guarantee the deployment of essential freedoms (such as the right to information) does not necessarily translate into an understanding of their effects on daily life, nor on the development of indispensable capacities to take advantage of its benefits (without the loss of some type of agency). Therefore, being immersed in a digital culture, and in a broad informative legal framework, does not imply that the sectors and communities of society have an understanding of the requirements that this digitality seems to impose for the enjoyment of their rights, as epistemic agents that seek, process and transmit information. To freely deploy our essential faculties, and to fully enjoy our freedoms, it is vital to become digitally literate. In order to articulate the full exercise of the right to information with the faculties that digital literacy integrates, a more robust theorizing is needed that helps to discern between digital processes and informative processes, namely, a digital epistemology that helps to understand how it is that the digital dimension influences the understanding of the informative dimension.

The main ethical challenges that arise for Information Sciences (with the daily use in different areas of Big Data applications) are not about the reliability of its professionals to carry out tasks in the organization area in an impartial way or about the obligation to train themselves technologically in the area of Data Science. The most important problems are related to the concept of moral responsibility, especially from a metaethical perspective, in line with the reflection of the implementation of technology with respect to human autonomy. In this paper it is stated that the challenges of Big Data go beyond the individual spectrum of responsibility of a professional in Information Sciences (specifically, due to the negative social consequences), so that the changes brought about by massive data sets are essentially problems of a group ethics, so they require approaches from the theoretical postulates of these disciplines. In addition to this, the moral challenges in dealing with Big Data are usually approached from applied ethics (such as information ethics), but in this article it will be approached as a problem of metaethics and normative ethics (as a foundation for its application in professional codes), and also from some ideas of digital hermeneutics and the philosophy of technology.

In this study, the intellectual structure of the Iberoamerican research on Library and Information Science was visualized, from the perspective of journal citation relations. In addition, the core journals that most influence intellectual structure were identified. The study had a comparative emphasis since data from Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection were used. Journal co-citation maps were generated to identify the journal communities. Strategic diagrams with citation and betweenness centrality measures were also generated to identify core, under development, and peripheral journals. The results showed that the intellectual structure is fragmented into communities that respond to the geographic context and language affinity. Only two journals are considered core, El Profesional de la Información and Ciência da Informação. In general, there was not much difference in the comparative analyzes between the two databases. Complementary studies are necessary to show which epistemic factors influence the current fragmentation of the intellectual structure of the Library and Information Science research in the region.

The so-called “visual turn” has been the result of the exponential growth in the production and use of images in many spaces of human endeavor, especially in recent years. Added to this is the fact that Library Science has advanced as a discipline towards its maturity in this same period, so that both developments appear as notable trajectories towards an epistemological leap that is intertwined: on the one hand, that of the phase of constitution of Library Science and, on the other, that of image reading. This raises the imminence of a hermeneutic clash, which begins in the figure of the librarian and later moves to the position of the reader. This "shock" is not necessarily negative if it is conceived as a cognitive conflict, which would imply the problematization of the textual dimension against the visual dimension. The image (in its different modalities) should serve the librarian as a reminder of the multidimensionality of the information with which he works on a daily basis. This implies that the librarian must have a highly developed capacity in his hermeneutic dimension, not only as a reader, but as a translator of that content. Without this capacity in the primary organization process, it will be difficult to carry out other processes such as user training or the promotion of image reading, which is essentially a deep act that involves various cognitive and emotional operations at various levels.

Ecology, as science of our Environment (Old-Greek: „oikos“ = the house, „logos“ = the word, the science) is with Human Being since his first appearance. What makes us today so clairaudient or even anxious is the knowledge, that the Human Being has developed technical abilities too efficient and without thinking about evolution and resources of our Nature. The soft ability of getting Information shows certainly our errors in last decades. Fortunately, our Ecology is able to fix clear sources and creators. We realised that we have generated our Climate Crisis by our own. We know already how we can prohibit bad dangers out of our heating of our Earth Environment. Even some, artificial created new materials (f. i. Plastic) are longer usable then the evolutionally developed ones of our Nature but we can’t recycle them without problems. So „Microplastic“ makes broad pollutions in our seas. Fishes eat them and die because that’s no food for them, some eaten chemical elements may have toxic follow ups as food for Human Beings. That are – genuine journalistic-commercial – the actually most horrifying catastrophic messages. Till now Ecology can´t start effective, worldwide strategies against Climate Change. Whole our Humanity – we have to think in that dimension – will start a common strategy only the last moment. A worldwide or even regional consensus is actually starting. We are bound to our descendants. Irresponsible or single persons only don´t care about this. The Human Being is in rare cases suizidal.

The Future Library. The Library of Unborrowed Books. The Reanimation Library. A Library of Approximate Location. These are not typical names for libraries but they are tantalising and they are real. Each of these libraries has been created by an artist and they are not the only ones. These libraries function both as libraries and as art installations and can be temporary exhibitions or permanent installations. Some are recognisably libraries and others are not. Some are tied to a specific place and others are peripatetic. They are scattered around the globe and, as well as investigating artistic themes of time, loss, place and memory, consider the library as subject as well as object. As such, they raise interesting questions for librarians. What does the library symbolise for the artist and the audience? What are the motivations of the artists involved? What purposes do these libraries aim to achieve? What does it mean for the artist to become the librarian? What are the implications for us as librarians? What can we learn from these artist libraries? This paper will explore these questions and attempt some preliminary answers.
