Abstract

This paper aims to present the proposition of mediation of information “in presence” within a cosmopolitical dimension. To do so, it approaches information mediation contexts and their implications for research, education and professional performance in the field of information science, and it presents the reach of associations between human and non-human actors, showing implicators and the implicated, and information users and non-users as implicated, in traditional or contemporary modes of mediation. It criticizes this initial composition as it dialogues with principles of situationality, transience, and symmetry among the actors. Four situations were hence outlined: 1. Professor-researcher and information professional may implicate the cultural dimension of users and non-users; 2. Information user as an implicator and information professional as the implicated; 3. Professor-researcher as the implicated in teaching and in research on information mediation; and 4. Professor-researcher and information professional implicated and are implicated by non-human actors. This study concludes that “being in presence” in mediation contexts becomes a point of contact between cosmologies. The approach highlights the transience in the conditions of implicators and the implicated.
