Impairment of endothelial functions has been shown to occur after acute and chronic exposure to passive smoking (PS), as assessed by flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) of the brachial artery. A total of 61 participants, 30 male and 31 female, mean ages 26 (18-36) were enrolled in the study. All were clinically well and nonsmokers. All participants stayed for 30 minutes in the smoking room. Carbon monoxide (CO) level was 7.42 ± 0.98 ppm (4.71-10.50). Mean carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) levels of participants were significantly elevated after PS. Mean FMD was 18.6% ± 9% and decreased to 12.4% ± 7% after PS (P < .001). In the current study, with more number of participants at lower CO concentrations (7.42 ppm) and with smaller increase in COHb (51%) significant reduction (33%, P < .001) in FMD was observed. HEAVY ion collisions , *ELASTIC scattering , *COULOMB barriers (Nuclear fusion) , *HEAVY ion fusion reactions , *HEAVY ions - Abstract
Heavy-ion collisons are typically characterized by the presence of many open reaction channels. In the energies around the Coulomb barrier, the main processes are elastic scattering, inelastic excitations of low-lying modes and fusion operations of one or two nuclei. The fusion process is generally defined as the effect of one-dimensional barrier penetration model, taking scattering potential as the sum of Coulomb and proximity potential. We have performed heay-ion fusion reactions with coupled-channel (CC) calculations. Coupled-channel formalism is carried out under barrier energy in heavy-ion fusion reactions. In this work fusion cross sections have been calculated and analyzed in detail for the five systems 16
O + 147,148,150,152,154sm in the framework of coupled-channel approach (using the codes CCFUS and CCDEF) and Wong Formula. Calculated results are compared with experimental data, CC calculations using code CCFULL and with the cross section datas taken from ‘nrv’. CCDEF, CCFULL and Wong Formula explains the fusion reactions of heavy-ions very well, while using the scattering potential as WOODS-SAXON volume potential with Akyuz-Winther parameters. It was observed that AW potential parameters are able to reproduce the experimentally observed fusion cross sections reasonably well for these systems. There is a good agreement between the calculated results with the experimental and nrv[8] results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Introduction: Successful revascularization of lesions located in the left main and/or proximal left anterior descending (LM and/or pLAD) coronary artery improves survival than medical therapy only. Therefore, accurate identification of high-risk patients with suspected stable angina pectoris is critical for outpatient clinics. Since the septal perforators of the left anterior descending coronary artery are the main source of blood supply of the left anterior fascicle, we hypothesized that the presence of left anterior fascicular block (LAFB) can predict obstructive stenoses of LM and/or pLAD coronary arteries in patients with suspected stable angina pectoris. Methods: We consecutively enrolled 790 patients referred for invasive coronary angiography due to suspected stable angina pectoris. Results: The number of patients with LAFBs was 68 (8.6%). Furthermore, 218 patients (27.6%) had obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). The prevalence of obstructive CAD, revascularization with coronary artery bypass graft surgery, and obstructive LM and/or pLAD coronary artery lesions was higher in patients with LAFB. From univariate analysis, the presence of LAFB was significantly associated with predicting obstructive LM and/or pLAD lesions (odds ratio: 3,587; 95% confidence interval: 1,465-5,785; p=0.005). However, this association disappeared after adjustment for other cardiovascular risk factors. Conclusion: In patients with suspected stable angina pectoris, LAFB is not frequently a "normal variant" and is associated with known cardiovascular risk factors. It acts as a marker rather than a determinant of obstructive LM and/or pLAD coronary artery lesions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anahtar Kelimeler: Türk resmi, sanat, ölüm, sembol, göstergebilim., The concept of death is based on the belief system of societies. Therefore, the definition of death, its importance in religion and philosophy and the meanings attributed to it throughout the centuries should be known to understand its place in the arts. The aims of this study are: to examine examples of artworks that concern the relationship between death and art relationship along with all concepts, to determine the effect of the concept of death on the artists in the study and to do a semiotic analysis of the symbols and imageries developed in modern Turkish painting based on Turkish people's concept of death. The analysis of these signs also examined the concept of death as an inner expression of artists' subconscious and its depiction as an original awareness. Thus, many modern Turkish artists' paintings were examined, and methods such as literature review, artwork analysis and interview were used to draw conclusions. The study found that some artists embraced symbols or imageries relating to the concept of death in a conscious manner, while other artists approached the concept of death as a plastic aspect by taking style and form into consideration. The study found that the interaction between modern Turkish painting and the concept of death led artists to sustain their work with this concepts and cultures by using imageries and symbols relating to it as a form or an element of plastic expression. Along with the definition and concepts of the study's problem, the first section of the study discusses Turkish people's concept of death. The definition, history and relations of semiotics, the examination of artworks within the relationship of semiotics and art, and the transformation of death imagery into a sign discussing its theoretical and conceptual problems are included in the study's second section. The third section examines the depiction of the concept of death in modern Turkish art and the transformation of this concept into a sign within the scope of study results and presents a semiotic analysis of the imageries and symbols in the artists' works. The fourth section includes a practical application project. The subject is explained in terms of its aims and methods, and artworks are evaluated. In the study's final section, all the study data are evaluated and a variety of recommendations are given based on the results. Anahtar Sözcükler: İnanç, İman, İnanış, Hurafe, Batıl İnanç, Halk İnançları, Kutsal, Kutsal Mekân, Kutsal Zaman., Folk beliefs are part of culture. The sources of these beliefs can be religious, economic and folkloric. Some of them may have come to the culture from any other culture. Looking for the roots of all of them elsewhere should not be seen as a correct attitude. The majority of them should be regarded as a product of the culture in which they are present. If we consider culture as a living organism, folk beliefs must follow this creature. Otherwise they will not survive. Again, it is an acceptable fact that these beliefs assume sociological and psychological functions and emerge for problem solving. It would not be wrong to go even further and argue that they are one of the elements of being a nation of a community. ATRIAL flutter , *SUPRAVENTRICULAR tachycardia , *AMBULATORY electrocardiography , *ATRIAL fibrillation - Abstract
The identification of interatrial block (IAB) through electrocardiography (ECG) has been correlated with an elevated likelihood of developing atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke. IAB is diagnosed by evaluating P-wave prolongation on a surface ECG. The presystolic wave (PSW) is an echocardiographic marker determined by pulse-wave examination of the aortic root during late diastole. As IAB and PSW share similar pathophysiological mechanisms, we speculated that PSW, as a component of the P wave, might be useful in predicting IAB. In the present study, we aimed to determine the relationship between PSW and IAB. Patients with pre-diagnosis of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) on electrocardiography or rhythm Holter monitoring between January 2021 and December 2022 were included in the study. Surface 12-lead ECG and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) were performed for the diagnosis of IAB and PSW. Patients were divided into two groups based on the presence of IAB, and PSW was compared between the groups. In total, 104 patients were enrolled in this study. IAB was diagnosed in 16 patients (15.3%) and PSW was detected in 33 patients (31.7%). The PSW was higher in the IAB (+) group than in the IAB (−) group (10 patients (71.4%) vs. 23 patients (32.4%), p = 0.008). PSW may be a useful tool for predicting IAB in patients with SVT. Further studies are needed to determine the clinical utility of PSW in the diagnosis and management of IAB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY ,BRAIN imaging ,BRAIN function localization - Abstract
Objective: Epileptogenic Zones (EZ) detection using noninvasive EEG neuroimaging is aimed in this paper. Quantitative EEG (QEEG) analysis is used for artifact reduction, processing and source localization of recorded epileptic signals. Results are compared with others reported in the literature to better understand the importance of QEEG analysis in the context of epilepsy. Methods: EEG recordings of 5 patients from a dataset recorded in 10-20 system using 19 electrodes and sampled at 250 Hz are analyzed. Dataset includes pre-surgical EEG recordings and 4 out of 5 patients real MRI images. Patients' names are coded using 6 digits for privacy. Data is obtained from Zwolifski P. et al. (2010) by email. The ethics committee approval procedure was conducted at the Warsaw Memorial Children's Hospital. Seizure initial times in EEG recordings are marked carefully by an expert neurologist. Epochs 300 ms before and 500 ms after marked seizures are generated from the dataset. Artifact reduction, sub-bands analysis and source localization are performed on epochs. The Brainstorm software from The Biomedical Imaging Group of USC at LA is used for the analysis. Results: Brain maps are obtained after QEEG analysis. MRI scalp maps are analyzed by expert neurologist. Since EEG artifacts effect source localization considerably they are reduced before running both distributed and dipolar methods. EZs provided by source localization algorithms almost overlap with identified EZs. They show active regions while epileptic seizure begins. Expert neurologist compared visually findings with postoperative MRI or defined EZ areas. Localization errors are obtained visually. Conclusion: Considering the findings QEEG analysis helps us to understand complex brain signals better. Brain maps by inverse algorithms indicate promising results compared with ECoG findings obtained before. Noninvasively detection of EZs by neuroimaging methods developed in the last four decades help clinical and brain research. The co-operation between physicians and engineers have improved understanding of complex brain signals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An elevation in blood pressure (BP) during exercise is the normal physiological response, however an abnormally exaggerated rise in BP, in terms of hypertensive response to exercise (HRE), is seen as a prognostic factor for end-organ damage and mortality. HRE is more common in hypertensive (HT) patients and data are lacking on the effect of antihypertensive medication on HRE. In this study, we evaluated patients who underwent treadmill exercise testing (TET) to reveal the effect of antihypertensive medication on HRE. A cohort of 2970 individuals underwent TET and data were evaluated for HRE development. HRE has been defined as a systolic BP>210 mmHg in males and >190 mmHg in females throughout the TET. To reveal the effects of antihypertensive medication on HRE, 992 HT patients were analyzed. HRE was observed in 11.4% (n = 113) of HT patients and 5.9% (n = 107) of non-HT individuals(p <.001). HRE was observed significantly more in males (57.6% vs. 67.3%;p =.033), and in patients with higher body mass index BMI (29.1 ± 4.5 vs. 30.3 ± 5.2;0.033). There was no significant association between medication and HRE development apart from beta-blockers. Also, gender (odds ratio:1.787; 95%CI:1.160–2.751;p =.008), BMI (odds ratio:1.070;95%CI:1.025–1.116;p =.002) and being under beta-blocker treatment (odds ratio:0.637;95%CI:0.428–0.949;p =.026) were found to be independent predictors of HRE in multivariate logistic regression analysis. HRE was associated with gender, BMI and beta-blocker use in hypertensive with male gender and higher BMI associated with higher HRE, while beta-blocker-based treatment, either mono- or combination therapy, associated with lower HRE. CEREBRAL embolism & thrombosis , *ATRIAL fibrillation , *MAJOR adverse cardiovascular events , *ARRHYTHMIA , *DISEASE risk factors , *INTERNATIONAL normalized ratio - Abstract
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia worldwide and is associated with an increased risk of thromboembolism, ischemic stroke, impaired quality of life, and mortality. The latest research that shows the prevalence and incidence of AF patients in Türkiye was the Turkish Adults' Heart Disease and Risk Factors study, which included 3,450 patients and collected data until 2006/07. The Turkish Real Life Atrial Fibrillation in Clinical Practice (TRAFFIC) study is planned to present current prevalence data, reveal the reflection of new treatment and risk approaches in our country, and develop new prediction models in terms of outcomes. Methods: The TRAFFIC study is a national, prospective, multicenter, observational registry. The study aims to collect data from at least 1900 patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, with the participation of 40 centers from Türkiye. The following data will be collected from patients: baseline demographic characteristics, medical history, vital signs, symptoms of AF, ECG and echocardiographic findings, CHADS2-VASC2 and HAS-BLED (1-year risk of major bleeding) risk scores, interventional treatments, antithrombotic and antiarrhythmic medications, or other medications used by the patients. For patients who use warfarin, international normalized ratio levels will be monitored. Follow-up data will be collected at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months. Primary endpoints are defined as systemic embolism or major safety endpoints (major bleeding, clinically relevant nonmajor bleeding, and minor bleeding as defined by the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis). The main secondary endpoints include major adverse cardiovascular events (systemic embolism, myocardial infarction, and cardiovascular death), all-cause mortality, and hospitalizations due to all causes or specific reasons. Results: The results of the 12-month follow-up of the study are planned to be shared by the end of 2023. Aim: Hepatic fibrosis, a progressive scarring of liver tissue, is commonly caused by non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. The Fibrosis‐4 (FIB‐4) index is a non‐invasive tool used to assess liver fibrosis in patients with NAFLD. Aortic valve sclerosis (AVS), a degenerative disorder characterized by thickening and calcification of valve leaflets, is prevalent in the elderly and associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Recent studies have suggested that AVS may also be linked to other systemic diseases such as liver fibrosis. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the FIB‐4 index and AVS in a non‐alcoholic population, with the hypothesis that the FIB‐4 index could serve as a potential marker for AVS. Method: A total of 92 patients were included in this study. AVS was detected using transthoracic echocardiography, and patients were divided into groups according to the presence of AVS. The FIB‐4 index was calculated for all patients and compared between the groups. Results: A total of 17 (18.4%) patients were diagnosed AVS. Patients with AVS had higher rates of diabetes mellitus, older age, hypertension, angiotensin‐converting enzyme inhibitor use, higher systolic blood pressure (BP) and diastolic BP in the office, coronary artery disease prevalence, left atrial volume index (LAVI), left ventricular mass index (LVMI), and late diastolic peak flow velocity (A) compared to those without AVS. Moreover, AVS patients had significantly higher creatinine levels and lower estimated glomerular filtration rate. Remarkably, the FIB‐4 index was significantly higher in patients with AVS. In univariate and multivariate analyses, higher systolic BP in the office (OR, 1.044; 95% CI 1.002–1.080, p =.024) and higher FIB‐4 index (1.46 ±.6 vs..91 ±.46, p <.001) were independently associated with AVS. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that the FIB‐4 index is associated with AVS in non‐alcoholic individuals. Our results highlight the potential utility of the FIB‐4 index as a non‐invasive tool for identifying individuals at an increased risk of developing AVS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: In this study, we examined the mandibular trabecular bone structures by performing fractal dimension (FD) analysis in patients who underwent renal transplantation (RTx). Methods: Our study is an observational study with 69 RTx patients and 35 control group patients. The mean FD values of the patient and control groups were calculated and compared. In addition, biochemical parathyroid hormone (PTH), serum calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and vitamin‐D parameters and FD values of both groups were analyzed. Results: FD values were significantly lower in the patient group than in the healthy group (p <.05). In the RTx group compared to the control group, ALP (90.71 ± 34.25–66.54 ± 16.8, respectively) (p <.001) and PTH (75.76 ± 38.01–38.17 ± 12.39, respectively) (p <.001) values were higher. There was a positive correlation between the FD values and ALP (rspearman =.305, p =.011) and a negative correlation between FD values and vitamin‐D (rspearman =.287, p =.017) of patients with RTx. Conclusion: FD values were found to be lower in patients who underwent RTx compared to the control group. It should be considered that FD analysis can be a method that can be used to evaluate trabecular bone structure in patients undergoing RTx. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PULMONARY embolism , *BLOOD cell count , *VENOUS thrombosis , *OXYGEN in the blood , *BLOOD gases , *OXYGEN saturation - Abstract
Objectives: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third most common cause of cardiovascular death. The EkoSonic Endovascular System is one of the treatments for thrombus. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the results of ECOS treatment and the effects of personal characteristics such as age, gender, and clinical history on the effectiveness and safety of treatment in patients with high or moderately high-risk PE. Methods: In this study, 51 patients who underwent ECOS with the diagnosis of medium-high-risk PE were analyzed retrospectively. Arterial blood gas oxygen saturation, partial oxygen pressure (PaO2 ) values, RV diameters, pulmonary arterial pressure (PAPs), and tricuspid regurgitation in echocardiography and Qanadli Score in computed tomography were recorded in all patients before and after the procedure. In addition, PE and deep vein thrombosis localization, complete blood count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelet count, urea, creatinine values, minor and major bleeding, recurrent venous thromboem bolism, and presence of complications were evaluated. All the data obtained were compared in male and female groups, in the over 65 age group and in groups classified according to the history of the underlying disease. Results: In all patients, the mean of saturation and PaO2 after the procedure was higher than before the procedure, the averages of hemoglobin, hematocrit, creatine, right ventricular (RV) diameter, PAP, and Qanad value were found to be lower than before the procedure (p<0.05). The RV diameter difference before and after the procedure was found to be higher in patients over 65 years of age than in patients under 65 years of age (p<0.05). Considering the gender distribution of ten patients with complications, 1 (10%) of the patients were male and 9 (90%) were female. Conclusion: This study shows that ECOS is an effective treatment option in patients with high-risk PE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After the first COVID-19 case, reported neurological complications are increasing day by day. In this paper, we present a benign-course Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) emerging 2 weeks after COVID-19 infection in a 35-years-old male. Cough and fever were started 18 days ago and his PCR test was resulted positive for COVID-19 infection. After treatment and quarantine were completed, he developed sudden leg weakness following autonomic features. Cerebrospinal fluid was suggestive for GBS despite the electrodiagnostic test was not helpful because it was done in the first days. He recovered without needing any immunotherapy. Our case suggested that COVID-19 can cause atypical benign GBS forms in addition to well-known variants. Comprehensive studies are needed to describe the unknowns and determine the exact prevalence of GBS after COVID-19 infection, including mild cases that did not require hospital admission. CHRONIC obstructive pulmonary disease , *LEFT heart atrium , *LEFT ventricular hypertrophy , *FORCED expiratory volume , *SPECKLE tracking echocardiography , *VITAL capacity (Respiration) - Abstract
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. It is known that impaired forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) is one of the risk factors of cardiovascular disease. Two‐dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D‐STE) can detect deterioration of left atrial mechanical functions in the subclinical stage. We hypothesized that reduced lung functions, measured by FEV1 in COPD patients, may be associated with impaired left atrial (LA) mechanical functions. Objectives: Present study included 127 consecutive COPD patients. We divided study population into two groups: patients with normal LA strain (n = 20) or with impaired LA strain (n = 107). Results: In univariate logistic regression analysis, age (p: 0.001), FEV1% (p < 0.001), FEV1 (p < 0.001), FEV1/forced vital capacity (FVC) (p: 0.014), white blood cell (p: 0.012), LA Max vol (p: 0.026), C‐reactive protein (p :0.001), arterial oxygen pressure (PaO2) (p: 0.019), arterial oxygen saturation (SO2) (p: 0.021), left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) (p: 0.042), and mitral A‐wave velocity (p: 0.017) were associated with impaired LA‐strain. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, age (p: 0.043), FEV1 (p < 0.001), LA Max vol (p: 0.004), and LVEF (p: 0.004) were independently associated with impaired LA strain. Conclusion: FEV1 is associated with impaired left atrial strain independently of arterial blood gas and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction parameters in COPD patients with preserved left ventricular systolic function. The Model for End-stage Liver Disease excluding the international normalised ratio that is derived from prothrombin time which is calculated as a ratio of the patient's prothrombin time to a control prothrombin time standardized (MELD-XI) and modified MELD, which uses albumin in place of the international normalised ratio (MELD-Albumin) scores reflect liver and renal function and are predictors of mortality. However, their prognostic value in acute pulmonary embolism (APE) has not been studied. We assessed the predictive value of the MELD scores in patients diagnosed with high-risk APE admitted to the intensive care unit. The primary outcome was 30-day mortality. Of the 273 patients included in the study, 231 were survivors and 42 were non-survivors. The mortality rate was 15.3%. The mean MELD-XI and MELD-Albumin scores were significantly higher in the non-survivors than in the survivors (MELD XI, 11.8 ± 1.8 and 10.6 ± 1.43, respectively; p =.002; MELD-Albumin, 10.5 ± 1.6 and 8.7 ± 1.1, respectively; p =.001). The multiple logistic regression analysis identified the MELD-XI (hazard ratio: 3.029, confidence interval: 1.06–1.21, p =.007) and MELD-Albumin (hazard ratio: 1.13, confidence interval: 1.06–1.21, p =.002) scores as independent predictors of mortality. Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that the predictive power of the MELD-Albumin score (0.871 ± 0.014; p <.001) was higher than those of the MELD-XI (0.726 ± 0.022, p <.001), APACHE III (0.682 ± 0.024, p <.001), and PESI (0.624 ± 0.023, p <.001) scores. The MELD-Albumin score is an easily calculable, reliable, and practical risk assessment tool and independent predictor of 30-day mortality in patients with high-risk APE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim of the study: Vitamin D deficiency is known to be associated with disease severity, unresponsiveness to treatment, and morbidity among patients with chronic viral hepatitis B and C, autoimmune hepatitis, and alcoholic hepatitis. This study aims to research vitamin D levels in patients suffering from cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic phases of hepatitis D. Material and methods: 170 individuals in total were included in the study in the form of two groups: the first group of 100 patients with chronic hepatitis D (CHD), 30 of whom had cirrhosis, and the second control group of 70 individuals with similar characteristics to those of the first group in terms of age, type, and seasonal sampling. Levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D] were measured in the serum collected from patients and the control group. Results: The lowest 25(OH)D levels were identified in patients with cirrhotic CHD. When these levels were compared with those of the control group, they were found to be significant (15.30 +/- 6.92 and 18.90 +/- 8.30 ng/ml, respectively, p = 0.04). 25(OH)D deficiency (< 10 ng/ml) was detected at significantly higher rates in patients with both cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic CHD compared to the healthy controls (30%, 25%, and 8.5%, respectively, p = 0.01). A significant correlation was established between 25(OH)D levels and bilirubin in patients with CHD (r = 0.252, p = 0.012). Multivariate analysis showed that chronic hepatitis D (odds ratio [OR] = 3.608, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.31-9.89, p = 0.013) and age (OR = 1.04, 95% CI: 1.00-1.08, p = 0.033) were associated with vitamin D deficiency. Conclusions: Frequency of 25(OH)D vitamin deficiency is higher in patients with CHD. The identification of vitamin D levels and the replacement of any deficiency may create a positive effect on disease progression, morbidity, and mortality levels.

The current study depicts the effects of different insulation materials and fuel types on the cooling and heating performance of buildings situated in hot and dry, warm and humid, composite, and cold climatic conditions in India. Ten different locations chosen from diverse climatic regions were selected, and various potential parameters for expanded polystyrene and extruded polystyrene insulation materials were evaluated. Potential parameters, such as optimal insulation thickness, annual savings, and payback period, were computed for cooling and heating requirements and were found in the ranges of 0.0428–0.891 m, 10.83–19.19 $/m2, and 1.49–2.36 years for cooling, as well as 0.0063–0.1522 m, 0.29–55.92 $/m2, and 0.95–6.52 years for heating, respectively. An emission analysis was also carried out for the estimation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the engagement of optimal insulation thickness for heating. The GHG emissions from natural gas, coal, and diesel by the employment of various insulating materials were found in the ranges of 5.39–11.28, 9.47–32.68, and 2.26–4.51 kg/m2-year, respectively. A correlation formulation (power) for optimal insulation thickness was also carried out. For checking the preciseness of the developed mathematical models, statistical tools were utilized, and their obtained values in the satisfactory range signified the accurateness of the developed models.

Objective: Hypertension (HT) is prevalent in the general population and is associated with significant cardiovascular adverse events. Major structural and electrical remodeling occurs in the ventricular myocardium in response to the pressure overload. Increased left ventricular mass (LVM) and myocardial fibrosis contribute to the prolongation of the R wave peak time (RWPT), which may indicate electrical remodeling in patients with HT. We evaluated predictors for prolonged RWPT among patients with a previous diagnosis of HT. Methods: Consecutive patients who had a previous diagnosis of arterial HT and presented to the cardiology clinic for routine visit were included in the study. The standard 12-lead surface electrocardiography (ECG) and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) was performed on all the patients included in the study for evaluating RWPT and the epicardial fat tissue (EFT). The upper limit for the RWPT was accepted as 40 milliseconds (ms). Results: Between February 2019 and February 2020, 453 patients were screened; and of these, 237 were included in the study. The mean age was 62.1 +/- 11.2 years, and 41.8% of the included patients were men. The mean RWPT of the study population was 41.9 +/- 10.8. The RWPT was prolonged in 55 patients, and the remaining 172 patients had normal RWPT. In the univariate analysis, EFT (Odds ratio [OR] 1.222; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.077-1386; p=0.002), the left ventricular mass index (LVMI) (OR 1.011; 95% CI 1.001-1.021; p=0.026), and fragmented QRS (fQRS) (OR 2.679; 95% CI 1.433-5.004; p=0.002) were associated with a prolonged RWPT. Multivariate analysis revealed that only EFT (OR 1.211; 95% CI 1.061-1.383; p=0.005) and fQRS (OR 2.796; 95% CI 1.459-5.359; p=0.002) predicted prolonged RWPT. Conclusion: Among the patients with HT, EFT and fQRS predicted prolonged RWPT. These findings may suggest that compared with increased LVM, myocardial fibrosis had a more significant impact on ventricular activation time.

– OBJECTIVE: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic disease that is more common in adult women and is characterized by widespread pain in the body, especially in the musculoskeletal system. Fatigue, sleep disturbance, anxiety disorder, and depression can be observed in this syndrome alongside pain. The aim of our study was to investigate the effect of FMS on the quality of life, psychological condition, and sleep quality of affected female patients and their spouses compared to women without FMS and their spouses. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty female patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia and their spouses and 38 healthy women and their spouses similar in age to these patients voluntarily participated in our study (136 participants total). The diagnosis of the patients was made according to the American College of Rheumatology. Turkish versions of the Short Form-36 (SF36), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaires with validity and reliability were applied to all participants. The statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS 24.0 for Windows (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, US). Differences with p-values of ≤0.05 were statistically significant, and all results are expressed with a 95% confidence interval. RESULTS: A total of 136 people, including women with FMS (n=30), spouses of FMS women (n=30), non-FMS control women (n=38), and spouses of the control women (n=38), were included in the study. The patient and control groups were similar in age and gender. However, participants in the study group had higher mean Body Mass Indexes compared to the controls. Quality of life and its sub-scales (except SF-36/Social function parameter), depression, anxiety status, and sleep quality were significantly different between the patients and controls. Additionally, quality of life and its sub-scales (except SF-36/Social function parameter), depression, and anxiety status were significantly different between the spouses of the patients and controls. There were no significant differences between the groups regarding the mean SF-36/SF (p=0.995 for both). Additionally, there was no significant difference between the spouse of the patient and control regarding the mean PSQI values (p=0126). CONCLUSIONS: We believe that new and more comprehensive studies are necessary regarding the spouses of women with FMS in depression, anxiety, sleep quality disorders that we frequently see in women with FMS, and other psychosocial conditions that we have not mentioned here. In conclusion, women with FMS and their spouses.

Aim: COVID-19 infections the tissue through angiotensin converting enzyme 2 receptor, which is also expressed on endothelial cells. Endothelial dysfunction may be associated with lung involvement. Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is an indirect marker of endothelial dysfunction. The aim of our study was to evaluate ADMA concentrations and to identify its association with lung involvement in patients with COVID-19 disease. Methods: We included 42 patients with COVID-19 infection and lung involvement (Group 1). Forty-two age and sex matched patients without pneumonia acted as the control group (Group 2). All patients gave blood samples for ADMA at the 1st month control visit after discharge. We compared C-reactive protein (CRP) and ADMA concentrations in addition to routine biochemical parameters between groups. Results: Patients with lung involvement had higher admission glucose, CRP, and ADMA concentrations, and displayed lower hemoglobin concentration and lymphocyte count compared to patients without lung involvement. Although patients with lung involvement had higher ADMA concentrations with respect to those without; plasma ADMA levels were also higher than normal values in control group. Multivariate analysis identified log CRP concentration (OR= 3.047, 95% CI=1.881-5.023, p

As the world population increases, the importance of vegetable and animal food products are increasing daily. During the Turkish republic the most attention has been given to the agricultural sector. However, not enough attention has been given to the red meat and livestock industry. In a balanced diet, 42% of our food should be composed of animal products. High red meat prices have had a negative impact on the consumers. The issues that affect the livestock industry also influence the red meat sector, animal farming, and animal feed. Therefore, due to these issues the national economy is negatively affected. The first part of this research analyses agriculture, and the second part looks into the livestock industry from 1923 until now. The third part analyses the importance of red meat industry; production, consumption, import and exports. This research paper compares the red meat industry situation between Turkey, European Union and the world.

WOS: 000588732200005 PubMed: 33299785 Background: Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is a biologically active organ that has endocrine and paracrine functions. Endothelial dysfunction, systemic, and local inflammatory response, due to bio-active molecules produced by EAT, may affect aortic dissection propagation and extent. We investigated the association between EAT thickness and the extent of aortic dissection. Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 78 patients with aortic dissection diagnosed by thoracoabdominal Computerized Tomography (CT). EAT was measured from the thickest part of the perpendicular plane between the pericardium and free wall of the right ventricle using CT. Aortic dissection length was measured from the beginning to the end of the dissection flap at sagittal images. Results: We included 78 patients with the mean age of 63.9 +/- 11.7 and 57 (73.5%) patients were male. Dissection length was correlated positively with EAT (r = 0.409, p < 0.001), body mass index (r = 0.408, p = 0.018), and admission systolic blood pressure (r = 0.830, p = 0.026) whereas an inverse correlation existed between age and dissection length (r = 0.318, p = 0.005). Multivariate analysis identified age and EAT as independent predictors of dissection length. Conclusion: Increased EAT was independently associated with the extent of aortic dissection. We think that either paracrine and endocrine functions of EAT might have contributed to the extent of aortic dissection.

In this study, heavy ion fusion reactions were investigated systematically for 48 reaction by coupled channel method. Heay- ion fusion near the Coulomb barrier is of interest to experimenters and theorists. Collisions are typically characterized by the presence of many open reaction channels. In the energies around the Coulomb barrier, the process is the elastic scattering of one or two nuclei, inelastic excitations and fusion operations. The fusion process is defined as the effect of a one-dimensional barrier penetration model that takes scattering potential as the sum of Coulomb and proximity potential. In this study, fusion cross sections were examined in detail by using CC calculations, such as CCFULL, CCDEF, CCFUS and NRV codes and Wong formalism with 2^+and 3^(- ) excitation for incoming particle and target . The calculated fusion cross section results were compared with the experimental data. It was determined that CCFULL and CCDEF, produced more reliable data than CCFUS. The barrier distributions for all reactions were calculated by CCFULL and NRV codes under coupling values and by Wong formalism. The harmony between these calculations was examined and the models were found to be in harmony with each other. 115

OBJECTIVE: Hypertensive retinopathy develops based on endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. Epicardial fat secretes various cytokines associated with endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. We aimed to evaluate whether epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness is a marker for retinopathy in newly diagnosed hypertensive patients. METHODS: A total of 73 newly diagnosed hypertension (HT) patients were included in the study. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) was used to measure EAT thickness. To evaluate the presence of retinopathy in HT patients, hypertensive retinopathy staging was performed by ophthalmologists, according to Scheie classification. RESULTS: Retinopathy was detected in 27 (37.0%) of 73 patients. EAT thickness in HT patients with retinopathy was higher than the group without retinopathy (5.07 +/- 1.45 mm vs. 4.19 +/- 1.20 mm, p=0.007). Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in HT patients with retinopathy were higher than the group without retinopathy (162.4 +/- 41.2 mg/dl vs. 138.1 +/- 35.6 mg/dl, p=0.010). As a result of the regression analysis, LDL-C (OR=1.016, 95% CI 1.001-1.031, p=0.043) and EAT thickness (OR=1.674, 95% CI 1.069-2.626, p=0.043) were the independent predictors of retinopathy. CONCLUSION: Increased EAT thickness is associated with the presence of retinopathy in hypertensive patients.
