Objectives: To discriminate viable tumors from benign periablational enhancement (BPE) in early stage after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a major confounding problem. The goal of this study is to evaluate quantitative assessment and diagnostic value of CT perfusion between viable tumors and BPE after RFA in the rabbit liver VX2 tumor model, with pathological results as the standard. Methods: Twenty-eight VX2 liver tumors were treated with RFA, on days 1, 3, 7, and 14, seven rabbits were randomly chosen for CT perfusion and performed pathology examinations immediately. The perfusion parameters along with the profile of time-density curves (TDCs) and pseudo-color images of the parameters were observed in both BPE and viable tumors, then compared with the pathology results. The perfusion parameters included blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV), time to peak (TTP), permeability (P), arterial liver perfusion (ALP), portal venous perfusion (PVP) and hepatic perfusion index (HPI). Results: A total of 26/28 rabbits successfully underwent CT perfusion, while 6/26 lesions were confirmed to be viable tumors. The TDCs of BPE were mainly speed-up platform curves (15/26), while the viable tumors showed mainly speed-up speed-down (3/6) and speed-up platform (2/6) curves. The PVP values were significantly higher, and the HPI values were significantly lower for BPE at all time points than viable tumors (P < 0.05). Both of PVP value and HPI value have high efficiency for the differential diagnosis of the viable tumors and BPE at each time point. These characteristics of CT perfusion parameters were consistent with pathological changes. Conclusions: The TDCs, PVP and HPI have the potential to indicate BPE and viable tumors effectively early after RFA treatment, the results were highly consistent with pathology. Background: Coccidiosis caused by Eimeria stiedae is a widespread and economically significant disease of rabbits. The lack of studies on the life-cycle development and host interactions of E. stiedae at the molecular level has hampered our understanding of its pathogenesis. Methods: In this study, we present a comprehensive transcriptome landscape of E. stiedae to illustrate its dynamic development from unsporulated oocysts to sporulated oocysts, merozoites, and gametocytes, and to identify genes related to parasite-host interactions during parasitism using combined PacBio single-molecule real-time and Illumina RNA sequencing followed by bioinformatics analysis and qRT-PCR validation. Results: In total, 12,582 non-redundant full-length transcripts were generated with an average length of 1808 bp from the life-cycle stages of E. stiedae. Pairwise comparisons between stages revealed 8775 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) showing highly significant description changes, which compiled a snapshot of the mechanisms underlining asexual and sexual biology of E. stiedae including oocyst sporulation between unsporulated and sporulated oocysts; merozoite replication between sporulated oocysts and merozoites; and gametophyte development and gamete generation between merozoites and gametocytes. Further, 248 DEGs were grouped into nine series clusters and five groups by expression patterns, and showed that parasite–host interaction-related genes predominated in merozoites and gametocytes and were mostly involved in steroid biosynthesis and lipid metabolism and carboxylic acid. Additionally, co-expression analyses identified genes associated with development and host invasion in unsporulated and sporulated oocysts and immune interactions during gametocyte parasitism. Conclusions: This is the first study, to our knowledge, to use the global transcriptome profiles to decipher molecular changes across the E. stiedae life cycle, and these results not only provide important information for the molecular characterization of E. stiedae, but also offer valuable resources to study other apicomplexan parasites with veterinary and public significance. Viruses that affect lagomorphs have decades of reported history of spillover events. One of these viruses is the causative agent of the so‐called rabbit or 'lagomorph' haemorrhagic disease (e.g. Lagovirus europaeus/GI.1 and L. europaeus/GI.2). In particular, L. europaeus/GI.2 has shown a great capacity to recombine with existing lagoviruses. In fact, it has replaced the former GI.1 genotype in the wild, and recently, an increase on spillover events has been detected among several lagomorph species including European and North American species of hares. In this study, we report for the first time the infection of a wild Iberian hare with GI.2 (RHDV2/b), potential shedding and associated histopathological alterations. We identify the recombinant GI.4P‐GI.2 as causative of the infection and discuss plausible causes regarding the origin of the spillover event and its potential consequences for the Iberian hare wild populations, which is an endemic species of the Iberian Peninsula as well as an important game and prey species for many predators, including endangered species. Background: JAM3 gene, located on human chromosome 11q25, encodes a member of the junctional adhesion molecule (JAM) family. Mutations of this gene are associated with hemorrhagic destruction of the brain, subependymal calcification, and congenital cataracts (HDBSCC). Case report: Herein, we present a newborn male with a prenatal suspicion of bilateral cataracts but without fetal ultrasound findings of cortical malformations. He was postnatally diagnosed with a clinical picture of HDBSCC and Early-onset Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy (DEE), associated to a homozygous variant of JAM3 gene. Conclusion: Identification of this variant in affected individuals has implications for perinatal and postnatal management and genetic counseling. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case reported of a child with a JAM3 variant in Italy, from a different ethnic background than the other reported children until now (Saudi Arabian, Turkish, Afghani, and Moroccan origin). A population of wild European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) was regularly monitored from November 1996 to April 2022, using mark--recapture as part of a longitudinal epidemiological study into two Australian rabbit biocontrol agents, rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) and myxomatosis. A female rabbit, first captured as a subadult on 26 October 2009, was recaptured 16 times before its final capture on 19 February 2019. The longevity of this rabbit, from its calculated birth date to the date of its last capture, was 9.5 years. This is a record lifespan for a wild European rabbit acknowledging that such longevity might be specific to our site in temperate South Australia. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) became in recent years a promising implement for cell therapies. Our study described the isolation and characterization of liver mesenchymal stem cells (LMSCs). We isolated LMSCs from the rabbit liver tissue from two groups: 20th day's old fetuses and 4 days-old kittens. LMSCs were characterized by flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Flow cytometry of the isolated LMSCs showed variable expression of the cluster of differentiation markers (CD) including, CD105, CD106, CD11b, CD38, CD63, CD9, and CD14. Fetal liver isolated LMSCs showed expression of CD105, CD106, CD9, and CD63 but no expression of CD14, CD11b, and CD38 was observed. Absolute expression of LMSCs was performed by qRT-PCR analysis to detect cytoskeleton genes including, vimentin, nestin, and desmin in the experimental groups. In vivo localization of stem cell markers such as CD105 (Endoglin), vimentin, and desmin was also distinguished in fetal and neonatal liver tissues using IHC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Respiratory disease, or snuffling, is a major problem associated with serious economic losses in the rabbit industry. The dis ease in rabbits is a polybacterial infection in nature, resulting from co-infection with more than one bacterial pathogen. To determine the involved bacterial pathogens in respiratory infections in terms of prevalence and pathogenicity, different specimens from rabbits with typical respiratory disorders are subjected to bacteriological examination followed by molecular verification through RT-PCR or PCR then sequencing of the PCR-product. The results identified Mycoplasma sp. as a major partner in mixed infection with virulent strains of P. multocida or S. aureus, suggesting that, initial infection with Mycoplasma sp. creates vulnerability to subsequent infection with P. multocida or S. aureus. Gross and microscopic analysis were also applied to demonstrate lesions accompanied by the detected bacterial pathogens. This study described the prevalence and characteristics of respiratory illness in rabbits domesticated in Al-Sharkia Governorate, Egypt and highlighted for the first time the role of Mycoplasma sp. in increasing the severity of rabbit-respiratory infections. OBJECTIVE To determine epidemiological features of cardiovascular disease in rabbits examined at a veterinary teaching hospital and characterize clinical and pathological findings. ANIMALS 59 rabbits. PROCEDURES Medical records from 200 I to 2018 were reviewed. and data were collected. Echocardiographic images and histologic diagnoses were reviewed. RESULTS The prevalence of cardiovascular disease was 2.6% (59/2,249) Clinical signs related to cardiac disease included heart murmur (n = 25 rabbits), arrhythmia (22), tachypnea or dyspnea (13), hyporexia oranorexia (13), and muscle wasting (9). Radiographic (n = 39) abnormalities included cardiomegaly (19) and peritoneal (12) and pleural (11) effusion. Common echocardiographic (n = 37) diagnoses included degenerative valve disease (15), dilated cardiomyopathy (7), unclassified cardiomyopathy (4), restrictive cardiomyopathy (3), and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (2). On ECG (n = 19), supraventricular arrhythmias (16) were more common than ventricular arrhythmias (12). Thirty-five necropsy reports were available, and diagnoses included cardiomyopathy (n = 14), myocarditis (10), and arteriosclerosis (9). Medical management (n = 20) included a wide range of drugs and dosages with few adverse effects. Survival times (n = 36 rabbits) ranged from 1 to 2.353 days with a median cardiac disease-specific survival time of 306 days. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE The findings provided information on the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in rabbits and survival times for affected rabbits. Right-sided, left-sided, and biventricular congestive heart failure occurred equally. Median survival time was lower than that reported for other species. Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the most important opportunistic microorganisms, which causing sepsis and nosocomial pneumonia with different pathological lesions in different organs. This study aimed to experimentally infecting of rabbits with A. baumannii to detect the grossly and microscopically lesions as a result of infection, and to isolate of organism from internal organs of study animals. The findings showed that intraperitoneal injection of A. baumannii disseminate this pathogen rapidly to other organs such as lung, liver, and kidney when compared to intransal rout. Additionally, the organism revealed variable gross and microscopic lesions in internal organs of rabbits. In lung, A. baumannii infection resulted in an interstitial pneumonia, thromboemboli, pulmonary edema with areas of atelectasis and pulmonary emphysema; whereas in kidney, interstitial nephritis with renal fibrosis and exudation in the kidney were seen. In liver, microscopic examination reported that there was massive hepatic fibrosis with hepatitis due to focal inflammatory cells infiltration as neutrophils, macrophages and lymphocytes. Centrilobular necrosis in interstitial tissue and in areas near or around the hepatic central vein and portal tracts of liver were seen. In other organs (intestine, meninges and brain), the findings showed that there were enteritis and onconecrosis of entire villi of intestine with necrosis of the crypts of lieberkuhn in addition to meningitis, perineuronal edema and perivascular leukocyte cuffing in intestine, meninges and brain, respectively. We concluded that this bacterium can cause many pathological lesions in different organs, more severely, in lung, liver and kidney, respectively when compared to other organs. A study was conducted to estimate the diversity that exists among three rabbit populations adapted to the South-Eastern part of Nigeria. Blood samples were collected from 75 matured, mixedsex, and unrelated three rabbit breeds selected across the zone. Eight microsatellites (Sol30, Sol33, and Sol44, Sat3, Sat7, Sat8, Sat12, and INRA) markers were used for the study. These microsatellites were uniformly distributed among rabbit genomes for genotyping. Subsequently, genetic variability within and between breeds was calculated. Allelic frequencies and Hardy-Weinberg equilibriums as well as Analysis of Molecular Variance, were also estimated using GenAlEX 6.41 software. Discriminant Analysis of Principal Components (DAPC) for the population structure of the rabbit breeds was performed in R v.3.5.0 using the R package adegenet. All the 8 loci amplified in this study were found to be 100% polymorphic, the observed allele sizes and their frequencies for the microsatellite markers in every three breeds showed that the highest frequency was 0.330 for the allele with the size of 470bp at Sol33 locus in New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits. The Nei's genetic identities and distances between Chinchilla (CHI) and Dutch (DUT), CHI and NZW, DUT and NZW obtained in this study were [0.173, 0.185, and 0.189] and [1.753, 1.689, and 1.666] respectively. The dendrogram and biplot revealed that the three breeds were identified at two separate clusters. In addition, the admixture level of an individual rabbit among the three breeds indicated that the breeds were not pure and also the existence of more polymorphism within the breed than among the breed diversity. Purpose: The present work aims to evaluate whether dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) can monitor non-invasively the blocking effect on microvessels of the Combretastatin-A4-phosphate (CA4P) and assess the therapeutic efficacy.Methods: Forty rabbits were implanted the VX2 tumors specimens. Two weeks later, serial MRI (T1 weighted image, T2 weighted image and DCE) were performed at 0 h, 4 h, 24 h, 3 d and 7 d after CA4P (10 mg/kg) or saline treatment. The parameters of DCE (Ktrans, Kep, Ve and iAUC60) of enhancement tumor portions were measured. Then all the tumor samples were stained to count microvessel density (MVD). At last, two-way repeated measures ANOVA was used to analyze the difference between and within groups. The correlation between the Ktrans, Kep, Ve, iAUC60 and MVD was analyzed by using the Pearson correlation analysis and Spearman's rank correlation.Results: The Ktrans and iAUC60 in the CA4P group were lower than the values of the control group at 4 h after treatment, which have significant differences (D-value: -0.133 min-1, 95%CI: -0.169~-0.097 min-1，F = 59.109, p < 0.001 for Ktrans; D-value: -10.533 mmol/sec, 95%CI: -17.147~-3.919 mmol/sec，F = 11.110, and p = 0.003 for iAUC60). In the CA4P group, the Ktrans and iAUC60 reached the minimum values at 4 h. There were significant differences between 4 h and other different time points of the Ktrans and iAUC60 in the treatment group (all p < 0.01). The parameters Ktrans (r = 0.532, P = 0.016 and r = 0.681, P = 0.001, respectively) and iAUC60 (r = 0.580, P = 0.007 and r = 0.568, P = 0.009, respectively) of 7 days showed correlation with MVD in both groups, while Kep and Ve did not show correlation with MVD (P > 0.05).Conclusion: The blocking effect of microvessels after CA4P treatment can be evaluated by DCE-MRI, and the parameters of quantitative Ktrans and semi- quantitative iAUC60 can assess the change of the tumor angiogenesis noninvasively. Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the heritability (h²), repeatability (r), and correlations (ryiyi) in some traits of zootechnical interest in a population of New Zealand white rabbits of a tropical dry forest area. Materials and Methods: Three mating groups were formed, each one of 1 male and 70 females. The traits evaluated were litter size at birth (LB), born alive (BA), born dead (BD), litter weight born alive (LW), litter weight at weaning (LWW), weaning weight (WW), slaughter weight (SW), and carcass weight (CW). Weaning took place at 42 days, and the fattening phase lasted 60 ± 3 days. A descriptive statistical study was carried out on the study variables. Paternal heritability was estimated (hf²) and maternal (h² m), repeatability, rabbit index IC, and Pearson's correlations (ryiyi) between traits. The descriptive statistics showed high variation for the BD traits. Results: The values of the productivity found were similar to those presented in studies around the world. h² presented magnitudes between low and medium. hf² ranged between 0.09 and 0.42 and between 0.11 and 0.45 for hm². In general, the values of hm² were higher than the values of hf². The r values for the traits LB, BA, LW, LWW, and SW presented low magnitude, while it was medium for WW and CW. From the values of r, IC was calculated for each of the rabbits, allowing their categorization, which will be used in future selection plans. ryiyi among the variables ranged from -0.01 to 0.860. They were generally positive and mostly not significant (p > 0.05); they took a magnitude from low to moderate, except for the correlation between LB and BA. Conclusion: The production of rabbits under tropical conditions is similar to other reports. The genetic parameters evaluated were medium-to-low, indicating a robust non-additive gene and/or environmental effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease (VHD) is a transmittable and lethal viral illness of rabbits. In this study, genetic identification and genetic analysis of the rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) was made in three governorates in Egypt from 2014 to 2019. Materials and Methods: Livers from 18 freshly dead rabbits, which was guessed to be VHD epidemics in Egypt (Giza, Menofia, and Fayoum governorates) from 2014 to 2019, were examined for RHDV. The examination was based on the hemagglutination assay (HA) test against different mammalian (human O-type and sheep) and avian (chicken and pigeon) erythrocytes, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and sequencing of the segment of VP60. Results: 33% of the examined samples' virus titers were 5 log2 to 8 log2 hemagglutination of human O-type erythrocytes when compared to 28%, 11%, and 28% of sheep, chicken, and pigeon erythrocytes, respectively. Four RHDV isolates out of eight RT-PCR positives were sequenced and phylogenetically analyzed. Sequenced isolates were designed and submitted to GenBank with accession numbers MN904506, MN904507, MN904508, and MN904509. These four RHDV isolates were related to classic G3 (GI.1d/RHDV). Twelve amino acid differences were detected between the vaccine strain sequence (Giza-2006) and RHDV isolates. Amino acid differences at 416, 423, and 476 positions seem interesting as they changed polarity that could change the protein structure and affect host interaction. Conclusions: There is antigenic variation between circulating RHVD strains and the vaccinal strain. This may be the leading cause of vaccination failure and may increase the need to check out the vaccination program against RHVD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To elucidate the implications of L-carnosine on interleukin-1α (IL-1α)-induced inflammation of lacrimal glands (LGs). Forty rabbits were divided equally into four groups: control group (G1), IL-1α (G2), L-carnosine (G3), and L-carnosine plus IL-1α (G4). Several clinical, histopathological, immunohistochemical, morphometric, and biochemical investigations were performed, followed by statistical analysis to diagnose the presence of dry eye disease (DED). The LGs of G2 rabbits showed degeneration of the acinar cells, increased deposition of collagen fibers, and marked immunoexpression of FasL; elevated levels of interferon-γ, tumor necrosis factor-α, transforming growth factor-β1, and malondialdehyde; and decreased levels of glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and reactive oxygen species compared with those of G1 rabbits. In contrast, administration of L-carnosine to G4 rabbits revealed marked improvement of all previously harmful changes in G2 rabbits, indicating the cytoprotective effects of L-carnosine against IL-1α-induced inflammation of LGs. IL-1α induced inflammation of LGs and eye dryness via oxidative stress, proinflammatory, apoptotic, and profibrotic effects, whereas L-carnosine mitigated DED through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and antifibrotic effects on LGs. Therefore, this work demonstrates for the first time that L-carnosine may be used as adjuvant therapy for the preservation of visual integrity in patients with DED. IL-1α induced dry eye disease through its oxidative stress, proinflammatory, apoptotic and profibrotic effects on the lacrimal glands of rabbit. L-carnosine has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic and antifibrotic effects. L-carnosine mitigated IL-1α induced dry eye disease via elevating the levels of FasL, IFN-γ, TNF-α, TGFβ1 and MDA as well as reducing the levels of antioxidants (GPx, SOD, and catalase) and ROS in the lacrimal glands of rabbit. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a significant cause of morbidity in kidney transplant recipients (KTR). Historically at our institution, KTR with low and intermediate CMV risk received 6 months of valganciclovir if they received lymphocyte depleting induction therapy. This study evaluates choice and duration of CMV prophylaxis based on donor (D) and recipient (R) CMV serostatus and the incidence of post‐transplant CMV viremia in low (D‐/R‐) and intermediate (R+) risk KTR receiving lymphocyte‐depleting induction therapy. A protocol utilizing valacyclovir for 3 months for D‐/R‐ and valganciclovir for 3 months for R+ was evaluated. Adult D‐/R‐ and R+ KTR receiving anti‐thymocyte globulin, rabbit or alemtuzumab induction from 8/20/2016 to 9/30/2018 were evaluated through 1 year post‐transplant. Patients were excluded if their CMV serostatus was D+/R‐, received a multi‐organ transplant, or received basiliximab. Seventy‐seven subjects met the inclusion criteria: 25 D‐/R‐ (4 historic group, 21 experimental group) and 52 R+ (31 historic, 21 experimental). No D‐/R‐ patients experienced CMV viremia. Among the R+ historic and experimental groups, there was no significant difference in viremia incidence (35.5% vs 52.4%; P =.573). Of these cases, the peak viral load was similar between the groups (median [IQR], 67 [<200‐444] vs <50 [<50‐217]; P =.711), and there was no difference in the incidence of CMV syndrome (16.1% vs 14.3%; P = 1.000) or CMV related hospitalization (12.9% vs 14.3%; P = 1.000). No patient experienced tissue invasive disease. These results suggest limiting valganciclovir exposure may be possible in low and intermediate risk KTR receiving lymphocyte‐depleting induction therapy with no apparent impact on CMV‐related outcomes. Objectives: To create awareness of single RHDV2 infections and cases of death despite immunisation with RHDV2‐specific vaccine. Materials and Methods: Retrospective case series of four companion rabbits. Patient signalment, vaccination history, pathology and molecular examinations were obtained from the medical records. Results: The animals died peracutely or with nonspecific symptoms like apathy and inappetence. Pathological examination indicated and molecular biological findings confirmed RHDV2 infection in four animals. Several partner animals died at the same time under the same circumstances. Clinical Significance: This is the first report of fatalities in RHDV2‐vaccinated companion rabbits due to rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus 2 infection with documented case and vaccination history. Veterinarians should be aware of possible single fatal RHDV2 infections despite vaccination, should initiate the clarification of suspected cases and inform vaccine manufacturers and competent authorities. In 2021, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the 3rd leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. This is largely due to a lack of symptoms and limited treatment options, which extend survival by only a few weeks. There is thus an urgent need to develop new therapies effective against PDAC. Previously, we have shown that the growth of PDAC cells is suppressed when they are co-implanted with RabMab1, a rabbit monoclonal antibody specific for human alternatively spliced tissue factor (asTF). Here, we report on humanization of RabMab1, evaluation of its binding characteristics, and assessment of its in vivo properties. hRabMab1 binds asTF with a KD in the picomolar range; suppresses the migration of high-grade Pt45.P1 cells in Boyden chamber assays; has a long half-life in circulation (~ 5 weeks); and significantly slows the growth of pre-formed orthotopic Pt45.P1 tumors in athymic nude mice when administered intravenously. Immunohistochemical analysis of tumor tissue demonstrates the suppression of i) PDAC cell proliferation, ii) macrophage infiltration, and iii) neovascularization, whereas RNAseq analysis of tumor tissue reveals the suppression of pathways that promote cell division and focal adhesion. This is the first proof-of-concept study whereby a novel biologic targeting asTF has been investigated as a systemically administered single agent, with encouraging results. Given that hRabMab1 has a favorable PK profile and is able to suppress the growth of human PDAC cells in vivo , it comprises a promising candidate for further clinical development. Background: Rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus Lagovirus europaeus/GI.1d variant (GI.1d/RHDV) was identified in 1990 in France, and until the emergence of the new genotype GI.2, it was the main variant circulating in the country. The early stages of RHDV infection have been described in a few studies of rabbits experimentally infected with earlier strains, but no information was given on the minimum infective dose. We report the genomic and phenotypic characterisation of a GI.1d/RHDV strain collected in 2000 in France (GI.1d/00–21). Results: We performed in vivo assays in rabbits to study virus replication kinetics in several tissues at the early stage of infection, and to estimate the minimum infective dose. Four tested doses, negligible (10− 1 viral genome copies), low (104), high (107) and very high (1011) were quantified using a method combining density gradient centrifugation of the viral particles and an RT-qPCR technique developed to quantify genomic RNA (gRNA). The GI.1d/00–21 genome showed the same genomic organisation as other lagoviruses; however, a substitution in the 5′ untranslated region and a change in the potential p23/2C-like helicase cleavage site were observed. We showed that the liver of one of the two rabbits inoculated via the oral route was infected at 16 h post-infection and all tissues at 39 h post-infection. GI.1d/00–21 induced classical RHD signs (depression) and lesions (haemorrhage and splenomegaly). Although infective dose estimation should be interpreted with caution, the minimum infective dose that infected an inoculated rabbit was lower or equal to 104 gRNA copies, whereas between 104 and 107 gRNA copies were required to also induce mortality. Conclusions: These results provide a better understanding of GI.1d/RHDV infection in rabbits. The genome analysis showed a newly observed mutation in the 5′ untranslated region of a lagovirus, whose role remains unknown. The phenotypic analysis showed that the pathogenicity of GI.1d/00–21 and the replication kinetics in infected organs were close to those reported for the original GI.1 strains, and could not alone explain the observed selective advantage of the GI.1d strains. Despite more than a century of research, genetic manipulation of Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum (T. pallidum), the causative agent of syphilis, has not been successful. The lack of genetic engineering tools has severely limited understanding of the mechanisms behind T. pallidum success as a pathogen. A recently described method for in vitro cultivation of T. pallidum, however, has made it possible to experiment with transformation and selection protocols in this pathogen. Here, we describe an approach that successfully replaced the tprA (tp0009) pseudogene in the SS14 T. pallidum strain with a kanamycin resistance (kanR) cassette. A suicide vector was constructed using the pUC57 plasmid backbone. In the vector, the kanR gene was cloned downstream of the tp0574 gene promoter. The tp0574prom-kanR cassette was then placed between two 1-kbp homology arms identical to the sequences upstream and downstream of the tprA pseudogene. To induce homologous recombination and integration of the kanR cassette into the T. pallidum chromosome, in vitro-cultured SS14 strain spirochetes were exposed to the engineered vector in a CaCl2-based transformation buffer and let recover for 24 hours before adding kanamycin-containing selective media. Integration of the kanR cassette was demonstrated by qualitative PCR, droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of transformed treponemes propagated in vitro and/or in vivo. ddPCR analysis of RNA and mass spectrometry confirmed expression of the kanR message and protein in treponemes propagated in vitro. Moreover, tprA knockout (tprAko-SS14) treponemes grew in kanamycin concentrations that were 64 times higher than the MIC for the wild-type SS14 (wt-SS14) strain and in infected rabbits treated with kanamycin. We demonstrated that genetic manipulation of T. pallidum is attainable. This discovery will allow the application of functional genetics techniques to study syphilis pathogenesis and improve syphilis vaccine development. Author summary: Syphilis is still an endemic disease in many low- and middle-income countries, and it has been resurgent in high-income nations for almost two decades. In endemic areas, syphilis causes significant morbidity and mortality, particularly when its causative agent, the spirochete Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum (T. pallidum) is transmitted to the fetus during pregnancy. A better understanding of T. pallidum biology and syphilis pathogenesis would help devise better control strategies for this infection. One of the limitations associated with working with T. pallidum was our inability to genetically alter this pathogen to evaluate the function of genes encoding virulence factors or create attenuated strains that could be informative for vaccine development when studied using the rabbit model of the disease. Here, we report a transformation protocol that allowed us to replace a specific region of the T. pallidum genome containing a pseudogene (i.e., a non-functional gene) with a stably integrated kanamycin resistance gene. Rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus 2 (RHDV2) is a newly emerging Lagovirus belonging to the family Caliciviridae. After its first discovery in 2010 in France, this highly pathogenic virus rapidly spread to neighbouring countries and has become the dominant strain, replacing the classical RHDV strains. RHDV2 was first reported in North America in 2016 in Mont‐Joli, Quebec, Canada, and it was reported again in 2018 and 2019 on Vancouver Island and the southwest mainland of British Columbia (BC). The whole genome sequence of the RHDV2 Quebec isolate resembled the 2011 RHDV2‐N11 isolate from Navarra, Spain with 97% identity at the nucleotide level. The epidemiological investigation related to this outbreak involved three hobby farms and one personal residence in Quebec. In February 2018, high mortality was reported in a large colony of feral rabbits on the Vancouver Island University Campus, Nanaimo, BC. The virus identified showed only 93% identity to the Quebec RHDV2 isolate at the nucleotide level. Additional cases of RHDV2 on Vancouver Island and on the BC mainland affecting feral and captive domestic, and commercial rabbits were reported subsequently. Vaccination was recommended to control the outbreak and an inactivated bivalent vaccine was made available to the private veterinary practices. In June 2019, an isolated RHDV2 outbreak was reported in pet rabbits in an apartment building in Vancouver, BC. This virus showed only 97% identity to the RHDV2 isolates responsible for the BC outbreak in 2018 at the nucleotide level, suggesting that it was an independent incursion. Myxomatosis is an emergent disease in the Iberian hare, having been considered a rabbit disease for decades. Genome sequencing of the strains obtained from Iberian hares with myxomatosis showed these to be distinct from the classical ones that circulated in rabbits since the virus introduction in Europe, in 1952. The main genomic difference in this natural recombinant hare myxoma virus (ha‐MYXV) is the presence of an additional 2.8 kb region disrupting the M009L gene and adding a set of genes homologous to the myxoma virus (MYXV) genes M060R, M061R, M064R, M065R and M066R originated in Poxviruses. After the emergence of this recombinant virus (ha‐MYXV) in hares, in the summer of 2019, the ha‐MYXV was not detected in rabbit surveys, suggesting an apparent species segregation with the MYXV classic strains persistently circulating in rabbits. Recently, a group of six unvaccinated European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus cuniculus) from a backyard rabbitry in South Portugal developed signs of myxomatosis (anorexia, dyspnoea, oedema of eyelids, head, ears, external genitals and anus, and skin myxomas in the base of the ears). Five of them died within 24–48 hr of symptom onset. Molecular analysis revealed that only the recombinant MYXV was present. This is the first documented report of a recombinant hare myxoma virus in farm rabbits associated with high mortality, which increases the concern for the future of both the Iberian hare and wild rabbits and questions the safety of the rabbit industry. Purpose: Inflammation of the ocular surface is central to dry eye disease (DED). The anti-inflammatory agent phospho-sulindac (PS) at a high dose was efficacious against DED in a rabbit model. We assessed the dose, formulation and structure dependence of PS's effect. Methods: In rabbits with concanavalin A-induced DED we evaluated a range of PS concentrations (0.05%-1.6%) and dosing frequencies, assessed the duration of its effect with PS in 2 solution formulations and one emulsion formulation, and compared the efficacy of PS to that of sulindac, and of the structurally similar phospho-ibuprofen amide. We determined tear breakup time (TBUT) (tear stability), Schirmer's tear test (tear production), and by esthesiometry corneal sensitivity (symptoms). We also determined the biodistribution in the eye of topically applied PS. Results: PS in a solution formulation, given as eye drops q.i.d. was efficacious starting at a dose of 0.1%. The effect was apparent after 2 days of treatment and lasted at least 8 days after the last dose. Both signs (evidenced by TBUT and Schirmer's test) and symptoms (measured by corneal sensitivity) improved significantly. The best formulation was the solution formulation; a cyclodextrin-based formulation was also successful but the emulsion formulation was not. PS and its metabolites were essentially restricted to the anterior chamber of the eye. Sulindac and phospho-ibuprofen amide had no efficacy on DED. Conclusions: PS is efficacious against DED. Objective: To describe ocular surface findings in impression cytology obtained from healthy rabbit conjunctiva treated with interferon alpha-2b eyedrop, and compare them to findings after use of mitomycin C 0.02%. Methods: An experimental study using a rabbit model was performed between September 2013 and October 2014 at the Faculdade de Medicina de Marília, Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Clínica de Olhos Moacir Cunha. Thirty New Zealand white rabbits were divided into 6 groups and received interferon alpha-2b or mitomycin C 0.02%. Impression cytology (IC) was performed prior to topical applications and at15, 30 and 60 days of use. The following variables were analyzed in impression cytology: goblet cells, cellularity, cell-to-cell adhesion, nucleus/cytoplasm ratio, nuclear chromatin, inflammatory cells keratinization, and cytomegaly. Results: The major findings in impression cytology after us of interferon alpha-2b included loss of goblet cells (50.8%), reduced cell-to-cell adhesion (26.2%), abnormal nucleus/cytoplasm ratio (20%) and reduced cellularity (15.4%). After use of mitomycin C 0.02%, the most common changes included loss of goblet cells (46.2%), abnormal nucleus/cytoplasm ratio (25.6%), less cell-to-cell adhesion (23.1%), and reduced cellularity (20.5%). There were no significant differences in any variable when comparing impression cytology after interferon alpha-2b and after mitomycin C 0.02%. Goblet cell loss was more pronounced at days 30 and 60, as compared to impression cytology at day 15 for both drugs. Conclusion: The loss of goblet cells, reduced cell-to-cell adhesion and cellularity, along with abnormal nucleus/cytoplasm ratio were the most common findings in impression cytology after use of interferon alpha-2b.These findings are similar to those described for use of mitomycin C 0.02%. .. In September 2019, high mortality in commercial rabbits was reported in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2 phylogenetically related to isolates from 2015-2017 outbreaks in the Netherlands was confirmed as the causative agent. An outbreak of rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2 (RHDV2)-associated disease occurred in the southwestern United States following its first detection in New Mexico in March 2020. The disease spread throughout several states and was diagnosed for the first time in California on May 11, 2020, in a black-tailed jackrabbit (Lepus californicus). The following day, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) issued an order banning the entrance into California of several lagomorph species and their products from any state in which the disease had been detected in the last 12 mo. RHDV2 is a threat to wild lagomorph species in California, including the endangered riparian brush rabbit (Sylvilagus bachmani riparius). Therefore, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) started tracking any mortality event in wild lagomorph populations. As of August 9, 2020, RHDV2 had been detected in wild and domestic lagomorphs of several counties in southern California that were submitted to the California Animal Health and Food Safety laboratory system by the CDFA or the CDFW. These positive cases included 2 additional black-tailed jackrabbits and 3 desert cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus audubonii). Purpose: To validate the feasibility of using peri-tumoral radiofrequency hyperthermia (RFH)-enhanced chemotherapy to obliterate hepatic tumor margins. Method and Materials: This study included in vitro experiments with VX2 tumor cells and in vivo validation experiments using rabbit models of liver VX2 tumors. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments received different treatments in four groups (n=6/group): (i) RFH-enhanced chemotherapy consisting of peri-tumoral injection of doxorubicin plus RFH at 42°C; (ii) RFH alone; (iii) doxorubicin alone; and (iv) saline. Therapeutic effect on cells was evaluated using different laboratory examinations. For in vivo experiments, orthotopic hepatic VX2 tumors in 24 rabbits were treated by using a multipolar radiofrequency ablation electrode, enabling simultaneous delivery of both doxorubicin and RFH within the tumor margins. Ultrasound imaging was used to follow tumor growth overtime, correlated with subsequent histopathological analysis. Results: In in vitro experiments, MTS assay demonstrated the lowest cell proliferation, and apoptosis analysis showed the highest apoptotic index with RFH-enhanced chemotherapy, compared with the other three groups (p<0.01). In in vivo experiments, ultrasound imaging detected the smallest relative tumor volume with RFH-enhanced chemotherapy (p<0.01). The TUNEL assay further confirmed the significantly increased apoptotic index and decreased cell proliferation in the RFH-enhanced therapy group (p<0.01). Conclusion: This study demonstrates that peri-tumoral RFH can specifically enhance the destruction of tumor margins in combination with peri-tumoral injection of a chemotherapeutic agent. This new interventional oncology technique may address the critical clinical problem of frequent marginal tumor recurrence/persistence following thermal ablation of large (>3 cm) hepatic cancers. A total of ten 1-2-year-old rabbits died within 2 weeks at a facility in Ehime prefecture in May 2019. Necropsy revealed liver discoloration and fragility, hemorrhage of some organs and blood coagulation failure. On histopathologic examination, necrotizing hepatitis was a common finding, together with fibrin thrombi in the small vessels and hemorrhage in some organs. Rabbit hemorrhagic disease (RHD) virus gene was detected in liver samples, and viral particles of approximately 32 nm in diameter were found in the cytoplasm of degenerated hepatocytes by electron microscopy. Phylogenetic analysis based on the partial VP60 gene sequence classified it as Lagovirus europaeus GI.2/RHDV2. The seed dispersal mechanisms and regeneration of various forest ecosystems can benefit from the actions of carnivores via endozoochory. This study was aimed to evaluate the role of carnivores in endozoochory and diploendozoochory, as well as their effect on seed viability, scarification, and germination in two forest ecosystems: temperate and tropical dry forest. We collected carnivore scat in the Protected Natural Area of Sierra Fría in Aguascalientes, Mexico, for 2 years to determine the abundance and richness of seeds dispersed by each carnivore species, through scat analysis. We assessed seed viability through optical densitometry using X‐rays, analyzed seed scarification by measuring seed coat thickness using a scanning electron microscope, and evaluated seed germination in an experiment as the percentage of seeds germinated per carnivore disperser, plant species, and forest type. In the temperate forest, four plant species (but mainly Arctostaphylos pungens) were dispersed by four mammal species. The gray fox dispersed the highest average number of seeds per scat (66.8 seeds). Bobcat dispersed seeds through diploendozoochory, which was inferred from rabbit (Sylvilagus floridanus) hair detected in their scats. The tropical dry forest presented higher abundance of seeds and richness of dispersed plant species (four species) than in the temperate forest, and the coati dispersed the highest number of seeds (8,639 seeds). Endozoochory and diploendozoochory did not affect viability in thick‐testa seeds (1,480 µm) in temperate forest and thin‐testa seeds (281 µm) in tropical dry forest. Endozoochory improved the selective germination of seeds. Nine plant species were dispersed by endozoochory, but only one species (Juniperus sp.) by diploendozoochory. These results suggest that carnivores can perform an important ecological function by dispersing a great abundance of seeds, scarifying these seeds causing the formation of holes and cracks in the testas without affecting viability, and promoting the selective germination of seeds. Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common type of cancer among women worldwide, and about 30% of males will have recurrent disease. Methods: In order to treat recurrent BC, we designed a type of silica nanodelivery system loaded with epirubicin and curcumin (composite nanoparticles, CNPs). To promote CNPs clinical application, the stability, the blood, immune and cell compatibility, skin stimulation experiments, anti-tumor activity in vivo and in vitro were studied. Results: In our study, the CNPs had a particle size of 73.9 nm and a uniform size and morphology; moreover, they maintained physical and chemical stability in the blood protein environment. Additionally, results showed that nanoparticles had good blood and immune compatibility, and they did not affect intracellular superoxide dismutase (SOD) and intracellular catalase (CAT). Skin stimulation experiments showed that CNPs did not cause any obvious irritative damage to the intact skin of rabbits. In the cytotoxicity study, CNPs showed strongest antitumor activity. The results of cell cycle and apoptosis studies showed that CNPs could mainly induce apoptosis of S and G2/M phase cells. In vivo, CNPs showed strongest aggregation in the tumor after 6 h of tail vein administration, and a large amount of CNPs continued to accumulate in the blood after 12 h of administration, indicating that CNPs had long circulation ability. The in vivo antitumor activities showed that CNPs had the strongest antitumor activity and tumor targeting ability, and hematoxylin-eosin staining of internal organs showed no obvious difference between treatment groups and negative control. Twenty-three of 42 European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus), belonging to the same rabbit colony, died in March 2020 (55% mortality) in Chiba prefecture, Japan. The disease course was extremely acute without indicators of death or hemorrhage. Necropsy revealed liver swelling, discoloration, cloudiness and fragility, and pulmonary edema. Histologically, severe hepatocellular necrosis (mainly peripheral) and intra-glomerular capillary hyalin thrombi were observed. On molecular-biological examination, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis of RNA from tissues detected a rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus, confirmed as a RHDV-2 VP60 fragment, which shared 99.42% nucleotide identity with the homologous fragment of RHDV-2 German isolate by nucleotide sequence analysis. Competition and indirect ELISAs are currently being used to monitor rabbit haemorrhagic disease viruses (RHDV1 and RHDV2) in rabbits worldwide. Temporal changes in the sensitivity (Se) and specificity (Sp) of RHDV1 competition-ELISA (cELISA1), RHDV2 competition-ELISA (cELISA2), and RHDV1 Immunoglobulin G (IgG1) ELISA, were investigated using Bayesian Latent Class models (BCLM) in the Australian wild rabbit population where both viruses circulate simultaneously and a long-term serological dataset exists. When cELISA1 was compared to IgG1 ELISA, the Se of cELISA1 improved while the Sp of IgG1 ELISA declined over the 2011–21. This corresponded with a decline in the true RHDV1 prevalence in 2018–21, suggesting that a large proportion of RHDV1 exposed rabbits survived the introduction and dominance of RHDV2 up to approximately 2017/2018, after which they died and were not replaced. The Se and Sp estimates for 2014–15 for both cELISA1 and IgG1 ELISA, and the true prevalence when analysing all three tests together were similar to those obtained from the analysis of cELISA1/IgG1 ELISA. The same was also true for the Se and Sp of cELISA2 and IgG1 ELISA estimates from 2018 onwards. This suggests that RHDV1 was the dominant infection type in 2014–15, but RHDV2 was the dominant infection type in 2018–21. Further, the increase in Se of cELISA2 and the low Sp of IgG1 ELISA in the cELISA2/IgG1 ELISA analysis, compared to the Se of cELISA2 and Sp of IgG1 ELISA when analysing all three tests together suggests that the underlying infection status was more influenced by RHDV2 and that the higher Se of IgG1 ELISA is due to cross-reaction of RHDV2 antibodies on IgG1 ELISA. The true prevalence data suggest that RHDV2 exposure peaked in 2017. Our findings show that test characteristics changed in response to the changing virus prevalences over time. Background: Some prior evidence has suggested that lop‐eared rabbits and those with brachycephalic skull conformations have a higher dental disease risk. This retrospective cohort study reports the frequency and conformational risk factors for primary‐care veterinary diagnosis with dental disease in companion rabbits in the UK. Methods: Anonymised VetCompass clinical records were manually reviewed to confirm dental disease cases. Risk factor analysis used multivariable binary logistic regression modelling. Results: From 161,979 rabbits under primary veterinary care in 2019, the 1‐year period prevalence of overall dental disease was 15.36% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 14.78–15.96). The prevalence of dental disease affecting incisors was 3.14% (95% CI: 2.87–3.44), and for cheek teeth it was 13.72% (95% CI: 13.17–14.29). Neither lop‐eared conformation nor brachycephalic skull conformation was significantly associated with increased odds of dental disease. Dental disease odds increased as age increased and decreased as bodyweight increased. Limitations: This study retrospectively accessed clinical records, so breed names may sometimes be imprecise. Conclusion: The high overall prevalence of dental disease represents a major welfare concern for all companion rabbits, regardless of conformation. This information can be used to encourage regular routine dental assessment of rabbits of all conformations to promote earlier diagnosis, paying particular attention to older rabbits and those with low bodyweight. Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) may prolong the survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, its efficacy is limited due to the high rate of incomplete embolization. Hypoxia after embolization can cause a series of changes in the tumor microenvironment, including lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) upregulation. Therefore, the current study assessed the antitumor effect and the underlying mechanism of the LDHA inhibitor, sodium oxamate (Ox), combined with TACE, using the rabbit VX2 liver tumor model. VX2 liver tumor models were created in the left liver lobe of rabbits, and after 14 days of treatments, the rabbits were sacrificed for the collection of the tumor tissues and blood samples. The antitumor effects of Ox, and the combination of Ox and TACE, and changes in the tumor microenvironment after treatments were assessed by histopathological evaluation, and the safety of the treatments was analyzed by measuring changes in the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, blood urea nitrogen and creatinine. The results demonstrated that the combination of Ox and TACE notably improved antitumor effects compared with in the other groups, as it significantly inhibited tumor growth. Additionally, treatment with Ox + TACE downregulated vascular endothelial growth factor and matrix metalloproteinase-9, and enhanced the infiltration of CD3+ and CD8+ T cells into tumor tissues, thus suggesting that Ox + TACE may have a synergistic effect on increasing the infiltration of immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. With a well-tolerated and manageable impairment of hepatorenal function, targeting metabolic reprogramming could promote the efficacy of TACE, thus providing novel avenues for the future clinical management of patients with advanced HCC. Background: Epizootic haemorrhagic disease (EHD) is a vector-borne viral disease of domestic and wild ruminants. Epizootic haemorrhagic disease virus (EHDV) is transmitted by Culicoides spp. EHDV is a member of the Orbivirus genus within the Reoviridae family. It shares many morphological and structural characteristics with other members of the genus, such as the bluetongue virus, African horse sickness virus, and equine encephalosis virus. Aims: The purpose of our study was to investigate the epidemiological situation of EHDV in Libya in order to gain some knowledge about the presence of this virus in the country. Methods: In this study, we investigated the seroprevalence of EHDV in Libya, testing 855 blood samples collected during 2015. The samples were collected from domestic ruminants (cattle, sheep, and goats) originating from 11 provinces of Libya. Sera were tested by competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and positive samples confirmed by serum neutralization test. Results: The overall seroprevalence of EHDV was estimated to be 4% (95% confidence intervals = 2.8%--5.4%). Small ruminant seroprevalence was significantly (p = 0.016) higher than that found in cattle. Neutralizing antibodies against EHDV-6 were detected in a sheep from the western region of Libya. Conclusion: This study suggests that EHDV has circulated or is circulating in Libya, and sheep could play an important role in the epidemiology of EHDV, and the virus may still be circulating in North Africa. Background: Micro-computed tomography (µCT), a modern imaging technique, provides detailed information on the bone morphology of small animal models. Aims: The objectives are 1) to produce three dimensional (3D) models from µCT images of femoral and tibial bones of New Zealand rabbits, and 2) to estimate and compare morphometric and volumetric results among genders as well as left and right sides. Methods: A total of twenty adult New Zealand rabbits (10 females, 10 males, aged 12-18 weeks, weight= 2.5-3 kg) were used for this study. Three dimensional reconstructed models of the femoral and tibial bones of rabbits were created from cross-sectional images of µCT using the 3D Slicer program. Anatomical structures were determined on these 3D bone models. Afterward, morphometric parameters such as length, thickness, and width of various parts of the bones were calculated with volume and volume ratio values of cortical bone, trabecular bone, and medullary cavity. Results: The gender*laterality interaction term was found statistically significant in measurements of femoral diaphysis diameter (FDD), internal femoral diaphysis diameter (IFDD), femoral head diameter (FHD), tibial diaphysis diameter (TDD), tibial distal width (TDH), and tibial proximal width (TPW) (P<0.001). The gender*laterality interaction term was not significant in volume and volume fraction values of cortical bone, trabecular bone, and medullary cavity (P>0.05). Conclusion: It is thought that the study will contribute to the orthopedic experimental studies of rabbits for femoral and tibial bones and will bring a modern perspective to the field of veterinary anatomy. The present research was aimed to detect the deleterious effects of lead on the biochemical, histopathological, and reproductive performances of Newzealand rabbit and Yucca schidigera extract role in protecting the tox impacts. sixty mature male Newzealand rabbits were divided into four groups, each one subdivided into 3 replicates. The treatments as follows: group 1 control basal diet, group 2 basal diet + 150 mg Pb/kg bwt, group3 basal diet +yucca (100 mg/kg diet), and group 4 basal diet + Pb (150 mg Pb/kg diet) + yucca (100 mg/kg diet). lead exposure group showed decreasing sperm concentration, and motility in comparison with control, and adding yucca extract can improve reproductive performance concerning control. Aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, creatinine, and uric acid were significantly elevated in Pb while, yucca treated groups and coexposure to yucca with Pb were significantly decreased than the lead alone group. Pb-exposed group significantly decreased total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase activities and reduced glutathione content, and significant elevation in malondialdehyde and nitric oxide. Co-exposure to yucca with lead elevate the antioxidant parameter and reduced MDA and NO than lead alone. Co-exposure to yucca+ Pb reduced the level of Pb residues in hepatorenal tissue than the lead-exposed group. The results of adding yucca exhibited have a protective effect against the lead-induced inhibitory effects on biochemical and reproductive performances of rabbit and yucca have improved the toxic impacts induced by lead in rabbit. Background: Rabbits are popular pets and veterinary knowledge about this species has evolved greatly in the past 15 to 20 years. Rather than languishing in hutches, many rabbits are now house pets; consequently, changes in drinking and voiding habits are more easily noticed by owners. Perhaps unsurprisingly, urinary tract disease is a common reason for rabbits to be presented to veterinary practices. In a histological survey of rabbit kidneys, Hinton (1981) found that 32.7 per cent of unhealthy rabbits had renal lesions, and so did 25 per cent of healthy rabbits, demonstrating the renal disease is a significant disease in our pet rabbits. Staphylococcus aureus is a well-known pathogen that infects humans and animals. However, information on the fatal respiratory infection in rabbits caused by S. aureus is still limited. In the present study, a S. aureus isolate designated ND01 was recovered from lung samples of rabbits that died of fatal respiratory infection, and the ND01 was characterised by intranasal infection of rabbits, multi-locus sequencing typing, screening virulence genes and testing antimicrobial susceptibility. Clinical signs of matted forepaws and pathological lesions of haemorrhagic tracheitis and necrotising haemorrhagic pneumonia were observed in the ND01 infected rabbits, which were identical to those of naturally infected ones. The sequence type of the ND01 was defined as ST3320 and the ND01 was further grouped into the clonal complex 398. Notably, the ND01 was pvl-positive S. aureus and carried the human-associated scn gene. Moreover, the ND01 was methicillin-susceptible S. aureus and was susceptible to 6 of 10 tested antibiotics. This study described the characteristics of the ND01 causing fatal respiratory infection in rabbits. The results are helpful to further the understanding of the pathogenicity of S. aureus ST3320 clone in rabbits. The results also highlighted that operators must be on the alert for the colonisation of pvl-positive S. aureus in rabbits and potential transmission events between rabbits and humans. Rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) is a critical health threat to the rabbit industry in Europe. In 2018, the French rabbit industry adopted a voluntary control plan against this disease. In this context, two epidemiological studies were conducted on RHD outbreaks that occurred between 2013 and 2018 in France. The objectives were to describe the spread of RHD due to the new genotype RHDV GI.2 (rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus GI.2) and to identify rearing factors influencing the occurrence of the disease in order to guide the prevention measures recommended in the control plan. An analysis of cases on 295 farms between 2013 and 2017 showed that 32% of farms were affected at least once; the incidence of the disease increased in 2016-2017 compared to 2013-2015. Farms already affected in 2013-2015 had a higher risk of being infected in 2016-2017 than those that remained unaffected until 2015 (Relative Risk and 95% Confident Interval 1.7 [1.1-2.7]). A case-control study carried out between 2016 and 2018 on 37 outbreaks and 32 control farms revealed variability in biosecurity and decontamination practices between farms. The risk of being infected tends to be linked to these practices, but certain structural factors (e.g. the manure disposal system, transfer of rabbits at weaning) could also influence the risk of virus introduction into farms. In the context of a limited vaccination coverage of the farms (only females are vaccinated), these hypotheses will be studied further, using information from the RHD outbreak monitoring system implemented at the same time as the control plan in 2018. There are very similarity in the types of plasma-based treatments: the platelet rich-plasma (PRP) and platelet poor-plasma (PPP). The both types have been established as an autologous source for therapeutic angiogenesis. and the both have two main ingredient: platelets and plasma, fifteen healthy mature male rabbits were divided randomly into three experimental groups: The first group which treated with PRP, the second group, which treated with PPP and the third was control group, the sciatic nerve in all treated animals were transected and served in treatment protocols through surgical procedure after the nerve suture. Then all animals were followed up clinically for fourteen days, and histologically for sixty days after the operations. The results either clinically or histologically indicated that the treatment with PRP has remarkable beneficial effects on nerve healing represented acceleration and improvement of the nerve through reduce adhesion, increase nerve regenerations time and improve nerve function. The use of medical plants for treating diseases is a worldwide phenomenon in developing and developed countries. The classical knowledge of medicinal plants have led up to the different medical drugs development, and is as yet the basis of numerous scientific studies. The seeds of Lepidium sativum L. plant which is known as the garden cress are used in Arabian regions as a complement of food and as well as in classical medicine. In the present research the phenolic methanolic extract of plant seeds obtained by Soxhlet extraction was examined for the histological changes in the tissues of testis, epididymis, and seminal vesicle of adult male rabbits. The capacity of the phenol extract of plant seeds to stimulate changes in the studied rabbits organs morphology and histology compared to the normal groups were determined. The results revealed that the phenol extract of garden cress caused moderate and marked reduction in the concentration of sperm at 64 and 96 mg/kg body weight of phenol extract. This result suggests that phenol extract could be harmful to the architecture of rabbits testis when the concentration and period of experiment were increased. The results also indicated that this extract caused the presence of fewer numbers of sperms in the lumen and less marked stereocilia in the epididymis, and a decrease in the height of the epithelial secretive cells of the seminal vesicles. The importance of testosterone on liver re-generation were investigated in this study by performing castration, and after many weeks a liver resection was done. Adult rabbits counted twenty have an age ranging from 3 to 10 months with weight of 1.5 - 2.5 Kg had been chosen from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Al-Qasim Green University from Animals herd Resource. Atropine sulphate of (1mg /Kg B.W) was utilized to anesthetize the animals intramuscularly. Then, it followed by 20 mg /Kg B.W and 40 mg /Kg B.W of xylazine hydrochloride and Ketamine hydrochloride mixture respectively after 15 minutes intramuscularly. Two groups of animals named group A and B was classified in this study. However, the operation site was prepared for group A and all animals were anesthetized their abdomens' upper part. The surgical procedure started by an incision in order to expose the fourth lobe of the liver. Stitches on the liver lobe was performed by handling it using thump forceps. The tied lobe by the three knots was cut the knots using dissecting scissors fair distal to the suture, finally, the wall of the abdominal was routinely reapproximated. For group (B), similar procedure mentioned above was followed after castrated animals at many weeks. Clinical parameters of the postoperatively such as heart rates, temperature, and respiratory, were stable and within the acceptable limits for all animals of groups A and B. Histopathological Examinations was conducted on biopsies of the liver at day 15 and 30 after the operation.
