Objective: To compare the consistency of two interproximal reduction (IPR) methods in terms of the amount of planned and performed IPR during clear aligner therapy (CAT). Methods: Thirty-four patients who received IPR using hand-operated abrasive strips (Group 1, 20 patients, 162 teeth) and motordriven 3/4 oscillating segmental disks (Group 2, 14 patients, 134 teeth) during CAT were included in this preliminary study. The consistency between the planned and performed IPR amounts was evaluated within and between groups for teeth and quadrants. Results: In Group 1, the amount of IPR performed on teeth numbers 22 and 43 and in the upper left quadrant was found to be statistically less than that of planned. On the other hand, the amount of performed IPR was statistically higher on tooth number 44 and in the upper right quadrant, whereas it was statistically less on tooth number 33 when compared with the planned amount in Group 2. The inconsistency between the planned and performed IPR amounts were statistically significant only in Group 1 and for teeth numbers 11, 21, 32, 33, and 43. No significant difference was found when the same parameter was compared between the groups. Background This study examined the moderating role of outdoor time on the relationship between overweight and myopia. Methods The data for this study was obtained from a prospective study in Shanghai, where non-myopic children wore wristwear and were followed up for 1 year. Eye examinations were performed at each visit. The modification effect was assessed on the additive scale using multivariable logistic regression, and relative excess risk due to interaction was used to calculate the modification effect. Results A total of 4683 non-myopic children were included with 32.20% being overweight at baseline. Following a 1-year period, 17.42% of children had myopia. When compared to those who spent <90 minutes outdoors, children who spent >120 had a relative risk of myopia onset that was reduced to 0.61. As time spent outdoors decreased, more risks of myopia onset were identified among overweight children than among normal children, the modification effect on the additive scale was −0.007, with ~70% of this effect attributed to the modifying influence of outdoor time. Conclusions Increasing outdoor time can reduce myopia more among overweight children than normal. We survey 20,439 estimates from 64 distinct research areas to assess power, bias and statistical significance in industrial relations research. The average estimate published in industrial relations research lacks adequate power; average power is 33 per cent, and median power is only 14 per cent, much lower than the conventional 80 per cent standard. Low power means that industrial relations researchers will find it more difficult to detect important associations pertaining to workplace relations. Low power also leads to exaggerated research findings. We find substantial publication bias in industrial relations research, though nearly half of the research areas have little or no bias. The probability of test object compliance with the specified requirements and non-binary decision is a measure of how likely the test object is to meet the criteria for acceptance or rejection based on multiple factors. It is necessary to calculate by using a valid mathematical model that takes into account the test object's characteristics, the test conditions, the test criteria, and the uncertainty of the measurements. BACKGROUND: Poor sleep quality and sleep disorders are more prevalent in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) than in the general population. Poor sleep has been correlated with worse MS outcomes. Sleep efficiency (SE) is one of the most sensitive markers of sleep quality. There is very little written about SE and other polysomnography (PSG) parameters and MS measures. METHODS: This is a retrospective review of 280 consecutive individuals with MS evaluated by PSGs and other standardized MS measures over 13 years at a comprehensive MS center. In addition, the cohort was assessed with 2 fatigue scales, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the Expanded Disability Status Scale. A comparison of means test (independent t test) and a correlation coefficient (r) were used. RESULTS: The PSG measures of SE and Total Sleep Time were significantly different between a group of individuals with MS with a disease duration of more than 5 years vs a group of individuals with MS with a disease duration less than or equal to 5 years. Prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea was 63%, higher than reported in the literature while the prevalence of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea was 33.4%, which was lower than reported. Women are at increased risk of trauma exposure and of experiencing prolonged posttraumatic stress. Maternal trauma exposure and associated impairment may adversely impact mother–infant interaction quality, which may in turn be associated with infant temperament difficulties. More research is needed to identify which maternal trauma predictors are most robustly related to infant temperament outcomes. The present study aimed to address this gap by examining maternal sensitivity as a mediator of relations between maternal trauma and infant temperament in a longitudinal study of a rural cohort of mother–infant dyads. Mediation via maternal sensitivity was not supported in any of the primary analyses. Greater maternal trauma exposure was found to predict greater infant regulation behavior, a finding that was in opposition to expected results and which may be explained by protective factors found within the sample. The present sample was skewed toward married, educated women who reported high social support satisfaction and low trauma-associated impairment. The findings elucidate protective factors that may mitigate adverse outcomes for both mothers and infants. Future research models should include additional maternal trauma variables (e.g., recency, type, revictimization/polyvictimization), in utero maternal cortisol exposure, maternal insensitivity/ambiguous response patterns during caregiver tasks, and analysis of the IBQ-R subscales. This study compares the editorial coverage of the 2015 migration crisis in major centre-left and centre-right newspapers in three European countries affected (the UK, Germany and Greece). We test the empirical validity of the 'national media-system' hypothesis, and in particular the hypothesised characteristics of the different media systems these countries represent through a systematic content analysis of all editorials referring to the issue of migration/asylum for the period 2015–2016. For the purposes of data collection, we develop an original coding scheme that combines concepts and categories from the extant literature on media systems, as well as the literature on migration-related news frames. Our findings largely confirm the relevance of media-system characteristics in the coverage of the crisis, although UK editorials are markedly more polarised than expected. Load transmission from one element to another is achieved using steel connections, making them an integral part of any structural design. This article examines the differences between the American Codes (AISC) and Eurocode 3 for the design and analysis of steel connections. Moment connections' stiffness, strength, and ductility as expressed in both codes are the core focus of this research. Each tactic's advantages and disadvantages have been detailed, and the effect of seismic load on steel connection design has been investigated. The feasibility of using techniques like haunches and stiffeners to enhance connection design is also explored. The study focuses on moment connections and how they fare under different loads and conditions like stiffness, strength, and ductility. Additionally, the effect of seismic loading on the development of steel connections is analyzed. Finally, the significance of testing and documentation to guarantee the safety and dependability of steel connections has been evaluated. Background: Palliative care (PC) focuses on relieving pain and difficult symptoms rather than treating disease or delaying its progress. Palliative care views death as a natural process and allows patients to live the last phase of their existence in the best possible way, encouraging them to express their opinions and wishes for a good death. Interventions are advocated to control symptoms and distress and promote wellbeing and social functioning. A multidisciplinary approach to support patients receiving palliative care is encouraged. Objective: The aims of this study were to investigate the facilitators and barriers to PC in people with kidney disease from a nursing perspective and to explore predictive factors associated with nurse-perceived facilitators and barriers to PC in people with kidney disease. Design: This study is a survey that adopted a questionnaire created in 2021 with Delphi methology, which included 73 statements divided into 37 facilitators and 36 barriers to PC in patients with kidney disease, to be scored using a Likert scale. Participants and Measurements: Participants were obtained through the membership database of the European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses Association/European Renal Care Association (EDTNA/ERCA) of 2020. Inclusion criteria included being registered as a nurse, an EDTNA/ERCA member and understanding of the English language. The questionnaire was sent via email. Results: Three profiles of respondents were found: the first group was characterized by the highest agreement percentages of facilitators and with an average value of 53.7% in barriers; the second was characterized by a lower endorsement of facilitators and similar agreement to the first group for barriers; the third group had a high probability (>80%) of items endorsing both barriers and facilitators. Predictive variables were significantly associated with "Years in nephrology" and "macro geographic area". Conclusions: This study demonstrates variation in PC practice across Europe. Some professionals identified fewer barriers to PC and appeared more confident when dealing with difficult situations in a patient's care pathway, while others identified more barriers as obstacles to the implementation of adequate treatment. We introduce novel null models for assessing the results obtained from observed binary transactional and sequence datasets, using statistical hypothesis testing. Our null models maintain more properties of the observed dataset than existing ones. Specifically, they preserve the Bipartite Joint Degree Matrix of the bipartite (multi-)graph corresponding to the dataset, which ensures that the number of caterpillars, i.e., paths of length three, is preserved, in addition to other properties considered by other models. We describe Alice, a suite of Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms for sampling datasets from our null models, based on a carefully defined set of states and efficient operations to move between them. The results of our experimental evaluation show that Alice mixes fast and scales well, and that our null model finds different significant results than ones previously considered in the literature. Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) is a technique used to optimize energy consumption in ultra-low-power embedded systems. To ensure sufficient computational capacity, the system must scale up its performance settings. The objective is to conserve energy in times of reduced computational demand and/or when battery power is used. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), Cyclic Redundancy Check 32 (CRC32), Secure Hash Algorithm 256 (SHA256), and Message-Digest Algorithm 5 (MD5) are focused functions that demand computational power to achieve energy-efficient performance. Selected operations are analyzed from the energy consumption perspective. In this manner, the energy required to perform a specific function is observed, thereby mitigating the influence of the instruction set or system architecture. For stable operating voltage scaling, an exponential model for voltage calculation is presented. Statistical significance tests are conducted to validate and support the findings. Based on the statistical significance testing, the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is one of the most popular statistics widely used in experimental sciences. However, in recent years, the statistical significance testing has been widely criticized for its various shortcomings. To address this problem, in present article we developed the new ANOVA methodology in the paradigm of new statistics. In this methodology, effect size testing is added to six most used ANOVA methods and the finer p-value standardard is used in the statistical significance testing of eight ANOVA methods. Over the last decade, online learning has seen considerable growth, with this being supported by the rapid development of the Internet and other technologies. It is therefore vitally important for academics and practicians to evaluate the effectiveness of e-learning, so they can enhance the learners' acquisition of knowledge and the performance of educational organizations. This study was conducted within this context with the aim of assessing the effectiveness of e-learning and investigating its main predictors, as well as the moderating role of learners' self-efficacy. A conceptual model was developed and used to test the relationships that e-learning effectiveness has with the online interactions between learners and course content, learners and other learners, and learners and the instructor. In addition, self-efficacy with Internet and computer technologies and online communication was also examined as a potential moderator. To test our research hypotheses, we conducted a quantitative empirical study through a web-based survey, with structural equation modeling being used to analyze the data. Online interactions between learners and course content and between learners and the instructor were both found to be significant predictors of e-learning's effectiveness. In addition, self-efficacy was found to play a significant moderating role but only in the dimension of online communication. This paper makes a novel contribution to the existing literature by investigating e-learning's effectiveness as a bi-dimensional concept covering net benefit and e-learner satisfaction. In addition, this study adds to our understanding of online learning by investigating the moderating role that students' self-efficacy can play in terms of both the communicational and technological dimensions. Montessori is a highly individualized pedagogy that prioritizes following each child's individual interests over standardized test scores. This quasi-experimental study compares groups of Montessori students (treatment groups, N = 535–710) with control groups of non-Montessori students, matched through the simple matching method, which controls for the effect of background variables on schooling outcomes. The tested hypothesis is that the treatment groups achieve mean scores that are not significantly lower and have a significantly higher standard deviation on standardized tests of mathematics and language. The study encompassed students in Grade 2, 5, 8, and 10 across two separate cohorts. Results indicate that Montessori students attain either comparable or significantly higher scores than non-Montessori students, depending on grade and cohort, with greater score variability observed, particularly at Grade 8 and in mathematics. The vertical toe position at minimum toe clearance (MTC) in the swing phase is critical for walking safety. Consequently, the joints involved should be strictly controlled and coordinated to stabilize the foot at MTC. The uncontrolled manifold (UCM) hypothesis framework has been used to determine the existence of synergies that stabilize relevant performance variables during walking. However, no study investigated the presence of a multi-joint synergy stabilizing the foot position at MTC and the effects of age and walking speed on this synergy. Is there a multi-joint synergy stabilizing MTC during treadmill walking? Does it depend on the persons' age and walking speed? Kinematic data from 23 young and 15 older adults were analyzed using the UCM approach. The participants walked on a treadmill at three speeds: slow, self-selected, and fast. The sagittal and frontal joint angles from the swing and stance legs and pelvis obliquity were used as motor elements and the vertical toe position at MTC was the performance variable. The variances in the joint space that affected (V ORT , 'bad' variance) and did not affect (V UCM , 'good' variance) the toe position at MTC and the synergy index (ΔV) were computed. The ΔV >0 was revealed for all subjects. Walking speed did not affect ΔV in older adults, whereas ΔV reduced with speed in young adults. ΔV was higher for older than for young adults at self-selected and fast speeds, owing to a lower V ORT in the older group. The vertical toe position at MTC was stabilized by a strong multi-joint synergy. In older adults, this synergy was stronger, as they were better at limiting V ORT than young adults. Reduced V ORT in older adults could be caused by more constrained walking, which may be associated with anxiety due to walking on a treadmill. • A multi-joint synergy (ΔV Z) stabilizes the minimum toe clearance (MTC) in walking. • ΔV Z is higher and variances (V UCM and V ORT) are lower at MTC than in the first half of swing phase. • The ΔV Z and V ORT reduced in young but not in older adults when walking in fast speed. • Older adults showed higher ΔV Z and lower V ORT than young adults. • A reduced V ORT in older adults may be a compensatory strategy adopted to constraint the MTC. Background: Given students' lack of self‐directed learning skills and the growing concern about implementing massive online open courses (MOOCs) in K12 education, learning strategies are needed to facilitate MOOC learning. Many studies have provided different strategies for effective learning in MOOCs. However, there is still limited research to confirm whether these strategies effectively support MOOC learning when deployed by secondary schools, which are not MOOC developers. Objectives: This mixed‐method study examines the provision of different learning strategies, including a learning guide, an academic mentoring programme, a training workshop, and a reimbursement scheme, and investigates the impact of these strategies on student learning in MOOCs. Methods: The study uses two data sources: (1) surveys with 40 participants and (2) semi‐structured interviews with 12 participants. The quantitative data were analysed with descriptive statistics and Fisher's exact test, and the qualitative data were analysed with thematic analysis. Results and Conclusion: The findings indicate that MOOC learners had positive attitudes towards the overall school support, with mentoring enjoying great popularity amongst the students. In terms of the effectiveness of the school support, the mentoring programme and reimbursement scheme were more effective than the university training and learning guide. Lay Description: What is already known about this topic: There are a large number of K12 MOOC implementations, which are (i) STEM‐related and computer science courses, and (ii) from Europe and the USA.Limited studies provided different learning strategies for MOOC learning from the perspective of K12 schools, which are not MOOC developers.There is a need to explore MOOC initiatives encompassing a wide variety of subjects, including computer science MOOCs and non‐computer science MOOCs, in regions beyond Europe and the USA.There is also a need for further scrutiny of the effectiveness of learning strategies provided by the K12 school. What this paper adds: Our study launched the first MOOC implementation in K12, encompassing several subject areas beyond computer science in the region of Asia.Our study provided different learning strategies adopted by the K12 school, and the analysis revealed that MOOC learners took positive attitudes towards overall school support with mentoring enjoying great popularity with these students.Our study examined the effectiveness of school support and identified that mentoring and reimbursement are more effective than university training and the learning guide. Implications for practitioners: The insights gained from the study enable other K12 schools and educators to implement MOOC into existing school infrastructures successfully.These strategies provided in the MOOC implementation program can be helpful in many different online learning contexts. Objective: Compare the long-term effects of two different individualised physical activity interventions in hip or knee osteoarthritis patients. Design: Randomised, assessor-blinded, controlled trial. Setting: Primary care. Subjects: Patients with clinically verified hip or knee osteoarthritis, <150 min/week with moderate or vigorous physical activity, aged 40–74. Intervention: The advice group (n = 69) received a 1-h information and goalsetting session for individualised physical activity. The prescription group (n = 72) received information, goalsetting, individualised written prescription, self-monitoring, and four follow-ups. Main measures: Physical activity, physical function, pain and quality of life at baseline, 6, 12 and 24 months. Results: There were only minor differences in outcomes between the two groups. For self-reported physical activity, the advice group had improved from a mean of 102 (95% CI 74–130) minutes/week at baseline to 214 (95% CI 183–245) minutes/week at 24 months, while the prescription group had improved from 130 (95% CI 103–157) to 176 (95% CI 145–207) minutes/week (p = 0.01 between groups). Number of steps/day decreased by −514 (95% CI −567–462) steps from baseline to 24 months in the advice group, and the decrease in the prescription group was −852 (95% CI −900–804) steps (p = 0.415 between groups). Pain (HOOS/KOOS) in the advice group had improved by 7.9 points (95% CI 7.5–8.2) and in the prescription group by 14.7 points (95% CI 14.3–15.1) from baseline to 24 months (p = 0.024 between groups). Conclusions: There is no evidence that individualised physical activity on prescription differs from individualised advice in improving long-term effects in patients with hip or knee osteoarthritis. Recently, there has been increased interest in issues related to functional linear regression models with points of impact. While the estimation of model parameters with a scalar response has been considered in past studies, there has been no attention on the hypothesis testing for these impact points. To test this hypothesis, one needs to determine the asymptotic distribution of the impact points coefficients estimators. In recent literature, the asymptotic distribution has been pointed out in a special case, but the proof has not been provided. Taking into account the necessary conditions, this study establishes the asymptotic distribution for the estimators of impact points coefficients in a general setting. It also offers a method to test the significance of these impact points. To validate the proposed test's asymptotic properties, a simulation study is conducted to assess its performance under various parameter settings. In statistics, samples are drawn from a population in a data‐generating process (DGP). Standard errors measure the uncertainty in estimates of population parameters. In science, evidence is generated to test hypotheses in an evidence‐generating process (EGP). We claim that EGP variation across researchers adds uncertainty—nonstandard errors (NSEs). We study NSEs by letting 164 teams test the same hypotheses on the same data. NSEs turn out to be sizable, but smaller for more reproducible or higher rated research. This study is devoted to the study of the digital divide between the developed and frontier regions of China, as a model for solving the problems of the global digital divide. The research is based on a representative sample of 1,520 high school students and 220 teachers. The study included several successive stages; each of them was devoted to finding an answer to one of the formulated research questions or confirming/rejecting the corresponding hypotheses. The first stage was a survey. The researchers then tested for correlations between scores within the same geographic region. The study revealed statistically significant differences in the assessments and the level of proficiency in digital education tools in groups from developed and frontier regions, and using correlation analysis revealed the absence of significant differences in the assessments between genders in all regions and groups and established a strong correlation between the assessment of methods for e-education and the degree of proficiency and familiarity with this tool. A grid-based approach to exploratory data analysis is described wherein the size of a grid's cells may be altered. The primary tool of exploratory data analysis described here is cluster analysis. Background information is provided regarding the different types of clustering algorithms and their effectiveness. A grid-based approach for exploratory and cluster analysis is then described. Both exploratory and cluster analyses are performed for a series of different sizes of grid cells. Two marketing data sets are utilized to illustrate research questions often faced by market researchers. The first is a cluster analysis of cities used to create strata for selecting a representative probability sample. The second example is a segmentation of customers into groups for the purpose of targeting advertising and product insight. These examples illustrate related issues such as the elimination of "background noise" observations, significance tests for departures from uniform density, and metrics for the shape of a cluster. Context: Weight-bearing test (WBT) is a noninvasive quantitative test which has been used recently to determine loading capability of the individuals. The aim of this study was to strengthen the evidence for using the WBT test for measuring weight-bearing capacity of the upper-extremity with the specific objective of examining the internal and external responsiveness and concurrent validity of the test in patients with triangular fibrocartilage complex injury. Design: Single-group repeated measures. Methods: Internal responsiveness was assessed using effect size statistics. The correlation coefficient was used to examine external responsiveness by testing 5 hypotheses regarding predefined correlations between the changes in the measurements. Concurrent validity was evaluated by analyzing correlations between the WBT and other measurements. Thirty-one patients with triangular fibrocartilage complex injury were included for the analysis of the concurrent validity. Eighteen patients who completed all measurements at baseline and at 3-month follow-up enrolled for the responsiveness analysis. Measurements included the WBT, pain intensity, grip strength, and upper extremity functional level. Results: The WBT test was able to detect statistically significant changes in weight-bearing capacity between baseline and follow-up (P = .0001). The effect (size of the WBT was large. Three out of 5 hypotheses (60%) were confirmed, a good correlation was found between changes scores of the WBT and grip strength (r = .478; P < .05). There were significant correlations between the WBT and other measurements (r value range from -.401 to .742; P < .05). A higher con-elation was found between the WBT and grip strength (r = .742; P = .0001). Conclusions: The responsiveness and concurrent validity of the WBT test confirmed that it is able to measure change in weight-bearing capacity in patients with triangular fibrocartilage complex injury. Background: Cortico-Steroid Injections (CSI) are commonly used to treat patients with Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS) but it is unclear which patients will experience improvements in pain. Objectives: To identify factors that influence improvements in pain for patients with GTPS treated with CSI. Design: Systematic review. Methods: A search was undertaken of AMED, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Medline and PEDro databases. Studies were eligible for inclusion if they investigated factors that influenced changes in pain experienced by patients with GTPS who received a CSI. Studies needed to include relevant summary statistics and tests of clinical significance. Risk Of Bias in Non-randomised Trials Of Interventions (ROBINS-I) and Risk Of Bias 2 (ROB2) tools were used to assess bias. Results: The search identified 466 studies, 8 were included in the final review with a total of 643 participants. There was no association between demographic variables such as age, sex, symptom duration or obesity and pain outcomes post-CSI. Having a co-existing musculoskeletal (MSK) condition such as knee osteoarthritis or sacroiliac/lumbar spine pain was associated with less pain reduction post-CSI. Injections into the Trochanteric Bursa were associated with longer lasting pain reduction than Gluteus Medius Bursa or extra-bursal injections. Image guidance of CSI maintained lower pain scores at six months but did not increase the duration of the therapeutic effect past six months. The presence of specific ultrasound scan features was not associated with differences in pain scores. Conclusions: Patients with co-existing MSK conditions may not respond to CSI as well as those without. Injections into the Greater Trochanteric Bursa may have longer lasting benefit. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder with a prolonged prodromal phase. Higher urinary bis(monoacylglycerol)phosphate (BMP) levels associate with LRRK2 (leucine-rich repeat kinase 2) and GBA1 (glucocerebrosidase) mutations, and are considered as potential noninvasive biomarkers for predicting those mutations and PD progression. However, their reliability has been questioned, with inadequately investigated genetics, cohorts, and population. In this study, multiple statistical hypothesis tests were employed on urinary BMP levels and sequences of 90 PD-risk single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from Parkinson's Progression Markers Institution (PPMI) participants. Those SNPs were categorized into four groups based on their impact on BMP levels in various cohorts. Variants rs34637584 G/A and rs34637584 A/A (LRRK2 G2019S) were identified as the most relevant on increasing urinary BMP levels in the PD cohort. Meanwhile, rs76763715 T/T (GBA1) was the primary factor elevating BMP levels in the prodromal cohort compared to its T/C and C/C variants (N370S) and the PD cohort. Proteomics analysis indicated the changed transport pathways may be the reasons for elevated BMP levels in prodromal patients. Our findings demonstrated that higher urinary BMP levels alone were not reliable biomarkers for PD progression or gene mutations but might serve as supplementary indicators for early diagnosis and treatment. Adverse weather conditions at night are very fatal to drivers, causing serious traffic accidents. Road lighting is a facility that can alleviate these dangerous situations. Nevertheless, road lighting has only rarely been studied during adverse weather. The reason is that the current road lighting performance evaluation method is presented based on normal weather. The current road lighting performance evaluation method uses a luminance meter to measure the road surface, which is not suitable due to scattering during adverse weather such as rain and fog. Therefore, this study proposes obstacle recognition distance as a measure of effectiveness to evaluate the performance of road lighting during adverse weather. There is a lack of actual research on whether obstacle recognition distance can be used as a measure of effectiveness for road lighting during adverse weather. Therefore, in this study, 30 subjects were used to measure the subjects' obstacle recognition distance according to changes in weather conditions, road lighting grade, and road lighting color temperature. As a result, it was analyzed that there was a clear trend of change in obstacle recognition distance depending on the change in each condition. It was found that, under the same road lighting performance conditions, there was a difference of up to 72.86% by weather condition; under the same weather conditions, there was a difference of up to 22.75% by road lighting grade; and by color temperature, there was a difference of up to 21.87%. In addition, a statistical significance test was performed to support the existence of a difference, and the results were synthesized to suggest that obstacle recognition distance can be used as a performance measure of effectiveness of road lighting in adverse weather. The study concept is based on the awareness of the process of training of a future physics teacher for the organization of pupils' innovative activity as an important component of modern professional education, which makes it possible to form a teacher as a competitive specialist capable of creative pedagogical work. The main study method was statistical methods: the methods of testing statistical hypotheses using Pearson, Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney and binomial tests, the method of empirical data analysis using convolution matrices, the methods of visualizing experimental results. The median-preserving spread (MPS) ordering for ordinal variables has become ubiquitous in the inequality literature. We devise statistical tests of the hypothesis that a distribution G is not an MPS of a distribution F. Rejecting this hypothesis enables the conclusion that Gis more unequal than F according to the MPS criterion. Monte Carlo simulations and novel graphical techniques show that a simple, asymptotic Z test is sufficient for most applications. Comparative sequence analysis permits unraveling the molecular processes underlying gene evolution. Many statistical methods generate candidate positions within genes, such as fast or slowly evolving sites, coevolving groups of residues, sites undergoing positive selection, or changes in evolutionary rates. Understanding the functional causes of these evolutionary patterns requires combining the results of these analyses and mapping them onto molecular structures, a complex task involving distinct coordinate referential systems. To ease this task, we introduce the site/group extended data format, a simple text format to store (groups of) site annotations. We developed a toolset, the SgedTools, which permits site/group extended data file manipulation, creating them from various software outputs and translating coordinates between individual sequences, alignments, and three-dimensional structures. The package also includes a Monte-Carlo procedure to generate random site samples, possibly conditioning on site-specific features. Problem: Existing bullying research among Arab Americans is limited, focusing mainly on school‐age adolescents and victimization. There is a lack of studies that examine retrospective bullying perpetration, bullying victimization, and physical fights during high school and their effect on current Arab American college students' stress and health outcomes. This study examines if bullying perpetration, bullying victimization, and physical fights during high school predict current stress and the physical and mental health of Arab American college students. In addition, we examined if perceived psychological stress mediates the relationships between bullying and fighting involvement and health. Methods: One hundred and sixty‐two undergraduate Arab American college students were recruited from a Midwestern university and completed self‐report measures of bullying, stress, and health (both physical and mental). Findings: Controlling for demographic variables, only high school victimization was significantly associated with current stress and physical and mental health. Stress fully mediated the relationship between victimization and health (both physical and mental). Conclusions: Victimization during high school years may result in serious physical and mental health consequences during college years. However, perpetration and fighting may not have similar effects. Addressing stress among bullying victims may reduce the negative impact of this experience on immigrant Arab American college students. Implications for practice and future research are discussed. En-bloc retraction is a common procedure in orthodontic therapy. The application of palatal root torque moments is required to control incisor inclination during retraction, yet studies comparing forces and moments with respect to different mechanics are lacking. This study aimed to investigate the forces and moments during orthodontic en-bloc retraction using a robotic biomechanical simulation system, comparing two distinct approaches: (I) compound technique [stainless steel (SS) combined with nickel-titanium (NiTi)] using industrially pretorqued retraction-torque-archwires (RTA) in combination with NiTi closed coil springs; (II) conventional sliding mechanics using SS archwires with manually applied anterior twist bends in combination with elastic chains. Two dimensions (0.017" × 0.025" and 0.018" × 0.025") and ten archwires per group were investigated using 0.022" slot self-ligating brackets. Kruskal–Wallis tests with a significance level of α = 0.05 were conducted. The biomechanical simulation showed that en-bloc retraction was characterized by a series of tipping and uprighting movements, differing significantly regarding the examined mechanics. Collateral forces and moments occurred in all groups. Notably, RTA exhibited fewer extrusive forces. The most bodily movement was achieved with the compound technique and the 0.018" × 0.025" RTA. Objective: Patients with functional neurological disorder involving the motor system (eg, functional weakness, functional gait) may acutely present to the hospital for new-onset symptoms. For some, symptoms may remain severe enough at the time of hospital discharge to qualify for an inpatient rehabilitation facility stay. Design: Data were extracted via retrospective chart review on functional neurological disorder patients (N = 22) admitted to an inpatient rehabilitation facility between September 2019 and May 2022. Demographic and clinical data, including admission and discharge physical and occupational therapy measurements on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument, were recorded and analyzed. Results: Symptom duration was less than 1 wk for nearly two thirds of the cohort. After an approximately 2-wk length of stay, patients showed statistically significant changes in admission to discharge measures of self-care, transfers, ambulation, and balance. More than 95% of patients were able to be discharged home. The presence or absence of comorbid depression, anxiety, or posttraumatic stress disorder did not impact outcomes. Conclusions: For a subset of patients with persistent motor symptoms after an acute hospital admission for a new diagnosis of functional neurological disorder, a relatively short inpatient rehabilitation facility stay was associated with significant clinical gains. Recent research has highlighted the statistical significance and usefulness of trigonometric distribution models for simulating a variety of phenomena. A new set of distributions generated by exponentiated cosine and tangent functions has been introduced. Consequently, two families of distributions called the exponentiated cosine and tan Stacy distributions are derived. Some vital statistical and reliability characteristics are studied. The finite sample characteristics of parameter estimations are compared to the exponentiated cosine and tan distribution generated by four estimation methods: maximum likelihood, ordinary least squares, weighted least squares, and Cramer–von Mises. The methodologies are evaluated using simulation studies. Finally, the practical applications of the proposed trigonometric versions of the Stacy model are examined and applied on two lifetime reliability engineering datasets and another lifetime medical dataset concerning bladder cancer data. These real applications serve to highlight the effectiveness and adaptability of this innovative families within the respective fields compared with other lifetime well-known distribution models. This study examined the influence of morphological density on reading comprehension in Arabic and whether this influence differs between typical and children with reading disabilities. Morphological density in Arabic is a text feature that refers to using bound morphemes, creating dense words with more morphemes. The participants were 182 fifth‐graders, both typical and children with reading disabilities. Children were assessed in reading comprehension by reading texts with low‐ or high‐morphological density. Findings revealed that overall morphological density impacted reading comprehension performance. That is, scores were found to be higher while reading low‐density text than high‐density text. Moreover, an interaction of morphological density condition by reading proficiency showed no density text effect among typical developing readers. However, a difference was obtained in the children with reading disabilities whereas low‐morphological density text score was higher than the score of high‐morphological density text. The study highlights the importance of morphological awareness in reading comprehension in Arabic, extending that morphological density plays an important role in this process. The results are discussed in light of the lexical quality hypothesis and simple view of reading model. The findings imply the need of explicit morphological instruction for dense morphological forms. The internal validity of a causal inference made based on an observational study is often subject to debate. The potential outcomes framework of causal inference stipulates that causal inference is essentially a missing data problem, and we follow this spirit to define the ideal sample as the combination of the observed data and the missing/counterfactual data for regression models. The robustness of a causal inference can be quantified by the probability of a robust inference for internal validity in regression, i.e., the PIVR, which is the probability of rejecting the null hypothesis again for the ideal sample provided the same null hypothesis has been already rejected for the observed sample. Drawing on the relationship between the PIVR and the mean counterfactual outcomes, we formalize a conceptual framework of quantifying the robustness of a regression-based causal inference based on a joint distribution about the mean counterfactual outcomes, holding the observed sample fixed. Interpretatively, the PIVR is the statistical power of the null hypothesis significance testing that is thought to be built on the ideal sample. Background: The neurobehavioral health impairments associated with prenatal alcohol exposure are now known to persist through adulthood. However, little is known about how these impairments affect individuals' parenting abilities and the neurobehavioral health of their offspring. This study compares parents with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) with socioeconomically matched, nonexposed parents on measures of parenting and family support and assesses the neurobehavioral health of the children in both groups. Methods: Forty‐nine parent–child dyads were recruited from a longitudinal cohort of low socioeconomic status. Measures included the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire, Family Support Scale, an in‐depth psychosocial history, the Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC; parent and child reports), the Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), a screening psychiatric evaluation of the child, the NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery for Children, The Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales‐Third Edition caregiver rating form, and the Traumatic Events Screening Inventory (parent and child reports). Results: Cognitive functioning was impaired for both offspring of parents with FASD (x¯ = 81.1, SD = 13.0) and control parents (x¯ = 79.9, SD = 16.1), but despite similar impairments, children of parents with FASD were less likely to have an Individualized Education Plan than controls. Adaptive functioning was adequate for both groups (x¯ = 92.1, SD = 15.4 in exposed vs. x¯ = 94.3, SD = 12.3 in controls) and CBCL and PSC scores in both groups were within normal limits. Parents in both groups showed a predominantly authoritative parenting style. Despite a similar frequency of adverse childhood experiences in both groups, parents with FASD were less likely to recognize their child's adverse experiences. Conclusion: Parents with FASD display notable strengths including a predominantly authoritative parenting style. However, parents with FASD underrecognize child trauma and underutilize developmental services compared to socioeconomically matched controls, despite similar neurocognitive impairments. Impairments in adaptive functioning in parents with FASD may translate into difficulties with child–parent communication and limit both insight into neurobehavioral problems and advocacy skills. Purpose : To measure the research productivity of trainees from the University of Toronto's Medical Imaging Clinician Investigator Program (MI-CIP) and comparing it with the research productivity of trainees from MI-non-CIP and General Surgery (GSx) Clinician Investigator Program. Methods : We identified residents who completed an MI-CIP, MI-non-CIP and GSx-CIP from 2006-2016. In each group of trainees, we assessed 3 research productivity outcomes with non-parametric tests before residency and at 7 years post-CIP completion/post-graduation. Research productivity outcomes include the number of total publications, the number of first-author publications, and the publication's average journal impact factor (IF). Results : We identified 11 MI-CIP trainees (male/female: 9 [82%]/2 [18%]), 74 MI-non-CIP trainees (46 [62%]/28 [38%]) and 41 GSx-CIP trainees (23 [56%]/18 [44%]). MI-CIP trainees had statistically significant higher research productivity than MI-non-CIP in all measured outcomes. The median (interquartile range, IQR) number of total publications of MI-CIP vs MI-non-CIP trainees was 5.0 (8.0) vs 1.0 (2.0) before residency and 6.0 (10.0) vs.0 (2.0) at 7 years post-CIP completion/post-graduation. The median (IQR) first-author publications of MI-CIP vs MI-non-CIP trainees was 2.0 (3.0) vs.0 (1.0) before residency and 2.0 (4.0) vs (.0) (1.0) at 7 years post-CIP completion/post-graduation. The median (IQR) average journal IF of MI-CIP vs MI-non-CIP trainees was 3.2 (2.0) vs.3 (2.4) before residency and 3.9 (3.2) vs.0 (2.6) at 7 years post-CIP completion/post-graduation. Between MI-CIP and GSx-CIP trainees, there were no significant differences in research productivity in all measured outcomes. Conclusion : MI-CIP trainees actively conducted research after graduation. These trainees demonstrated early research engagement before residency. Data-driven most powerful tests are statistical hypothesis decision-making tools that deliver the greatest power against a fixed null hypothesis among all corresponding data-based tests of a given size. When the underlying data distributions are known, the likelihood ratio principle can be applied to conduct most powerful tests. Reversing this notion, we consider the following questions. (a) Assuming a test statistic, say T, is given, how can we transform T to improve the power of the test? (b) Can T be used to generate the most powerful test? (c) How does one compare test statistics with respect to an attribute of the desired most powerful decision-making procedure? To examine these questions, we propose one-to-one mapping of the term "most powerful" to the distribution properties of a given test statistic via matching characterization. This form of characterization has practical applicability and aligns well with the general principle of sufficiency. Findings indicate that to improve a given test, we can employ relevant ancillary statistics that do not have changes in their distributions with respect to tested hypotheses. As an example, the present method is illustrated by modifying the usual t-test under nonparametric settings. We conducted three studies to explore how job candidates perceive and respond to hiring managers who commit gender role violations during salary negotiations, extending previous studies restricted to economic outcomes and backlash effects by focusing on a range of job candidate reactions. We apply expectancy violation and role incongruity theories to suggest that job candidates respond more strongly to hiring managers who violate gender role expectations than those who conform to expectations. We suggest that this reaction is more negative in response to agentic female hiring managers than any other type and more positive in response to communal male hiring managers than any other type. Across the three studies, the pattern of mean differences supports our predictions, although significance tests were not fully supportive across all outcomes and studies. Job candidates perceived hiring managers as more extreme on characteristics that violate gender role expectations (agentic female hiring managers were perceived to be more agentic than male counterparts, communal male hiring managers were perceived to be more communal than female counterparts). Job candidates were also less engaged with an agentic female hiring manager than an agentic male hiring manager. Significance tests were mixed for negative affect, self-efficacy, and trust, but mean differences were mostly consistent with the expectation that those negotiating with an agentic female hiring manager would experience the least favorable outcomes, whereas those negotiating with a communal male hiring manager would experience the most favorable outcomes. These results demonstrate that gender role violations extend beyond their impact on the violator (e.g., backlash), dramatically influencing job candidates on a range of outcomes as well. Background: Static anterior tibial translation (SATT) is radiographically measured to show the amount of tibial translation during the single-leg stance, and thus it is representative of the physiological axial load subjected to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the stance. Increased SATT has been associated with increased posterior tibial slope (PTS) and is also associated with increased graft failure. Purpose: To compare the SATT value in a control population with that in a population with an isolated ACL injury, as well as to compare the effect of tibial slope on SATT between the 2 groups. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: A consecutive series of patients without ligamentous or meniscal injuries between 2019 and 2022 was reviewed. A matched consecutive cohort of patients with nonacute ACL injuries (surgery between 6 and 12 weeks after injury) without concomitant pathology was reviewed. Preoperative SATT and PTS were measured with a previously validated technique on lateral weightbearing knee radiographs. The SATT value was determined, and regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between SATT and PTS. Results: In total, 101 controls and 115 patients with an ACL injury were included in this study. The mean SATT was 1.31 mm (SD, 2.44 mm) and the mean PTS was 10.61° (SD, 3.28°) in the control cohort. The SATT was larger (mean, 2.27 mm; SD, 3.36 mm) in the ACL-injured cohort despite the tibial slope measurement being less in the ACL-injured cohort (mean, 9.46°; SD, 2.85°; P =.016). Linear regression analysis showed that for every 1° of increase in PTS, there was a 0.34-mm increase in SATT in the control cohort; however, there was a greater increase of 0.5 mm for every 1° of increase in PTS in the ACL-injured cohort. We found no significant differences in SATT when the cohorts were compared by age (P =.26) or sex (P =.10). Conclusion: The present study reports a reference SATT value of 1.31 mm (SD, 2.44 mm) in a non–ACL-injured cohort, which was lower than in the ACL-injured cohort (mean, 2.27 mm; SD, 3.36 mm). Background: Vaccination is the most important public health practice for preventing infectious diseases and maintaining health. However, some parents are hesitant to vaccinate their children. Design: This study was designed as an instrument development study. Methods: This study aimed to develop a scale to measure the attitudes of parents with children aged 0–5 years towards vaccination and to evaluate the validity and reliability of this scale. The data were collected from 691 participants between November 2020 and January 2021. During the development of the scale, experts provided feedback on its technical, content and language dimensions. The data were analysed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses for conceptual validity and Cronbach's α and item‐level test–retest analyses for reliability. Results: The developed scale is a reliable and valid tool for measuring attitudes towards vaccination among parents (Cronbach's α = 0.97, variance explained by these 28‐item two factors = 62.47%). Conclusion: This scale can be used as a guide in measuring the attitudes of parents towards vaccination and determining the direction of primary health‐care services based on the results of the measurement. Background: Family caregivers (FCGs) encounter several physical, psychosocial, and financial struggles while caring for a dying loved one. After their loved one has passed, FCGs face new difficulties as they transition out of the caregiving role and into bereavement. Recent research has focused on the positive adaptive outcomes of bereavement. Objective: This study examined the relationship between core bereavement experiences and post-traumatic growth (PTG) for bereaved hospice FCGs. Design: This is a quantitative cross-sectional mail-in survey. Settings/Subjects: A total of 395 bereaved FCGs of patients who died while under the care of a comprehensive hospice program were surveyed. Measurements: Demographics were collected. Bereavement experiences were assessed using the core bereavement items, and PTG was assessed using the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI). Both surveys are validated measures. Results: Two-tailed bivariate correlations were used to analyze the relationships between bereavement experiences and PTG. Significant positive relationships were found between all bereavement experiences and PTG variables (p = <0.01–0.011, r = 0.134–0.290), except for one variable pairing (grief × new possibilities). Participants who reported more intense bereavement experiences also reported greater PTG, especially in the areas relating to others and appreciation of life. Conclusion: FCGs who undergo more intense bereavement experiences tend to experience greater PTG. A rapid expansion in the world's population needs an enormous supply of food grains to satisfy agricultural needs. Unfortunately, crop diseases adversely impact food production and disrupt the supply chain. To circumvent the limitations of continuous human monitoring, machine learning techniques can automatically diagnose leaf diseases in their early stages based on image data. In this paper, an Interpretable Leaf Disease Detector (I-LDD) framework for image-based leaf disease detection using Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) is proposed. The choice of ELM for this work has been motivated by its quicker convergence, good generalization capability, and shorter learning time compared to the standard gradient-based learning algorithms. Experiments have been carried out using a publicly available PlantVillage dataset comprising healthy and diseased leaf images for 32 categories. In the first phase, the leaf images are preprocessed and segmented using the k-means clustering algorithm. In the second phase, textural and frequency-based features are extracted from the segmented images. In the third phase, several machine learning classifiers are trained using tenfold cross-validation. It is observed that I-LDD achieves an accuracy of 0.9322 ± 0.0088 at a 95% confidence level, outperforming the state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, a statistical significance test on the classification performance metrics also revealed the superiority of I-LDD over the state-of-the-art classifiers.
