Objective To apply ultrasound to monitor cardiac function changes after anthracycline exposure in children with acute leukemia, in order to obtain the indicators of early changes in their cardiac function. Methods Children with acute leukemia from 2018 March to December 2020 in the Children’s Hospital of Kunming Medical University were enrolled according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, their routine cardiac ultrasound and tissue Doppler condition were recorded, and the changes in systolic function were evaluated by Tei index including TeiS, TeiRL, TeiM and TeiT. Results The mean values of LVEF in the normal and the experimental group were both above 60%. FS, SV, and EDV were all in the normal range. While common indicant, the index of TDI or Tei was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The levels of TeiM, TeiRL and TieT in the groups that received a total dose of 200 mg/m² anthracyclines and 250 mg/m² were significantly different from that before treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion Tei index can be utilized as a sensitive indicator for early changes in left and right heart function after children with acute leukemia are exposed to anthracyclines. This contribution examines the magic-realist metaphor of the Matacão in Karen Tei Yamashita’s (1990) debut novel "Through the Arc of the Rain Forest" as a trope that invites us to imagine, reflect on, and explore plastic’s cross-cultural meanings, aesthetic experiences, and materialist implications. I contend that through the Matacão, Yamashita engenders a narrative about, as well as an aesthetic experience of, plastic that is inherently ambivalent and paradoxical. While it provides societies with material wealth and sensual pleasures, it poses at the same time a profound threat to life – human and nonhuman. The main part of the article is divided into two major sections: in the first part, I read Yamashita’s story about the Matacão as historiographic metafiction that parodies the socio-cultural history of plastic and its utopian promises and failures. In the second part, I draw on Catherine Malabou’s philosophical concept of plasticity to explore the Matacão’s material agency, as well as the social mobility and economic connectivity of Yamashita’s human protagonists in their plastic environments. The theoretical perspective of Malabou’s concept of plasticity shifts the focus to the agentic forces of the waste material and allows us to read Yamashita’s Matacão as both a site and material that, notwithstanding its devastating impacts, also holds potentialities for resilience and repair, and even the possibility for an, at least temporary, utopia.

Background: Sacubitril/Valsartan (ARNI) has now class 1 recommendation for treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). It has been shown to reduce cardiovascular morbidity & mortality in Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and significant improvement in all echocardiographic parameters besides TEI index. Objective　 To investigate the diagnostic value of serum high-mobility group protein B1 (HMGB1) combined with cardiac Tei index in children with congenital heart disease (CHD) complicated with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Methods　 A total of 152 children with CHD were selected as the CHD group and they underwent right heart catheterization after admission. They were divided into PAH group (n=39) and non-PAH group (n=113) according to whether PAH occurred or not. At the same time, 48 healthy children were selected as the control group. Clinical data of each group were collected, including gender, age, BMI, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), echocardiographic indicators [left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD), left atrial diameter (LAD), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and left ventricular short-axis shortening rate (LVFS)]. HMGB1 was detected by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay on the next day after the admission in children with CHD and at the physical examination in the children in the control group. Echocardiographic examination was performed in the two groups after admission, and cardiac Tei index was calculated. The diagnostic value of serum HMGB1 level and cardiac Tei index in patients with CHD complicated with PAH was analyzed by ROC curve. Results　 The serum HMGB1 level and cardiac Tei index in the CHD group were higher than those in the control group (both P<0. 05). NT-proBNP, LAD, HMGB1 and Tei index in the PAH group were higher than those in the non-PAH group, and LVEF was lower than that in the PAH group( all P<0. 05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the increase of NT-proBNP, HMGB1 and Tei index were independent risk factors for PAH in children with CHD, and the increase of LVEF was independent protective factor (all P<0. 05). The ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve of serum HMGB1 level and cardiac Tei index alone and combined in the diagnosis of PAH in children with CHD were 0. 790, 0. 797 and 0. 885, respectively, and the area under the curve of serum HMGB1 level combined with cardiac Tei index in the diagnosis of PAH in children with CHD was greater than that of the two alone( P<0. 05). Conclusion　 The combined detection of serum HMGB1 level and cardiac Tei index has higher diagnostic value in children with CHD complicated with PAH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The work on the Golden Gospel of Dabra Libānos za-Ham in Eritrea, one of the main archives of the medieval history of Ethiopia and Eritrea, was initiated within the frame of the Ethiopian Manuscript Archives project, ANR EthioChristProcess, and Beta maṣāḥǝft. The work aims to describe the codicological disposition of the archival notes (i.e. arrangement of texts within the codex and its by-side folia), to provide their transcription, translation, and indexation. This article will discuss the encoding method for this work in progress, supported by TEI.

Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a cardiac neurohormone and has an important function in diagnosis and prognosis of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. The TEI index is a novel non-invasive Doppler-based indicator, which evaluates systolic and diastolic myocardial function. There are few data regarding the prognostic role of TEI and isovolumic acceleration (IVA) indexes in HF and the relationship with neurohormonal activation. In this study, we evaluated the TEI and IVA index correlation with Pro-BNP in patients with systolic HF.Patients and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. We included consecutively patients with HF, admitted to Imam Reza Hospital, Mashhad, Iran between March 2017 and February 2019. A single investigator would perform echocardiography the next morning, for all patients. A checklist was completed for each patient and included demographic data, clinical data and different echocardiographic variables. We also recorded in-hospital mortality and outcome of patients during the follow-up stage.Results: We finally included 65 patients according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The mean age of participants was 63.38± 12.85 years. Most of them were male (61.5%). We showed that there is a direct and significant relationship between RVIVA (r=0.317, P=0.010) and LVIVA (r=0.254, P=0.041) with LVEF. There was no significant correlation between Pro-BNP level and NYHA classification (r=0.151, P=0.231). We showed that there was no correlation between Pro-BNP level and RV TEI index (r=0.065, P=0.490) and LV TEI index (r=0.071, P=0.419). In sub-group analysis, in patients with EF< 20%, we showed a significant correlation between the level of Pro-BNP and RV TEI index.Conclusion: We showed that the IVA index is correlated to EF in both RV and LV and can differ in large-scale in a population study. We also showed that RV TEI index is significantly correlated with Pro-BNP in patients with EF< 20%. Background: Echocardiographic evaluation of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is used in the risk stratification of patients with an acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, the prognostic value of the Tei index, an alternative measure of global cardiac function, in AMI patients is not well established. Methods: We conducted a systematic review, using MEDLINE and EMBASE, to evaluate the prognostic value of the Tei index in predicting adverse outcomes in patients presenting with AMI. The data was collected and narratively synthesised. Results: A total of 16 studies were including in this review with 2886 participants (mean age was 60 years from 14 studies, the proportion of male patients 69.8% from 14 studies). Patient follow-up duration ranged from during the AMI hospitalisation stay to 57.8 months. Tei index showed a significant association with heart failure episodes, reinfarction, death and left ventricular thrombus formation in 14 out of the 16 studies. Ethiopian bookbinding is one of the material expressions of the ancient manuscript culture of Ethiopia and Eritrea, which is the research field of the Beta maṣāḥǝft project. Despite the significance of the materials and techniques adopted in bookbinding manufacture for the understanding of the manuscript they enclose, they have never been systematically recorded, until very recently. The present paper introduces the Beta maṣāḥǝft project’s innovative approach to bookbinding descriptions and its customization of the TEI schema to record the small variations of Ethiopian bookbinding elements. Since a standard vocabulary for Ethiopian bookbinding features was lacking, Beta maṣāḥǝft developed a tailored taxonomy to create consistent descriptions. The encoding of the binding occurs in the element, within which a element is assigned to each significant bookbinding feature. The descriptions consist partly of free text and partly of markup using keywords enforced by the taxonomy. This paper presents some applications offered by the Beta maṣāḥǝft project that use the recorded bookbinding features, and it shows how the encoding of this large amount of previously ignored data could open new research perspectives on Ethiopian book production.
