States across the globe have used war metaphors to respond to the pandemic and consequently have imposed warlike emergency lockdowns, suspended freedoms, denounced accountability, bypassed democratic procedures, and further marginalized minorities. Kashmir and Kashmiris were always the proverbial source of contagion for the Indian body politic - the virus that polluted its sacred geography, threatening its territory, delegitimizing its secular claims. In Kashmir, a stringent and impermeable lockdown had been in place since August 2019 to crush popular anger at the Indian government's divestment of Jammu and Kashmir's special constitutional status that offered nominal political autonomy to the disputed state ([11]). In today's world, an event that has not been seen for many years, the virus called Covid-19 has entered human life and seriously affected it. While globalization has had a positive effect in many areas, globalization with Covid-19 has had a negative effect around the world. It has affected many areas of world life since the end of 2019. The most important of these areas is business life. This period, in which measures such as curfews, quarantine, and closure of workplaces were implemented, affected the business life perspective of generation Z, who just started their business life. In a process where remote working models have been discussed in recent years, and different working models have been introduced, especially for the generation Z, remote working and hybrid models have been put forward with Covid-19. This process is an important process that will affect both employers, consumers, and employees. In this context, it is necessary to design overtime concepts within the harmony and coordination of all stakeholders. The aim of this study is to evaluate the perspective of the generation Z on the concept of overtime with the effect of Covid-19 and accordingly to create a decision support system using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). For this, a team of 20 people was first formed, and surveys were prepared to be made to the generation Z individuals. This survey was also conducted on 432 new graduates and senior university students from the generation Z and the results were evaluated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article deals with the curfew during the coronavirus pandemic in Cologne. A plaintiff argued that the nighttime curfew was unlawful. The 7-day incidence rate in Cologne rose above 100 and later above 130. The defendant issued an amendment to the general decree, which provided for a curfew from 9 pm to 5 am. The lawsuit was rejected because the curfew was considered lawful. The measure was enacted under the Infection Protection Act to contain the spread of the coronavirus and relieve the healthcare system. [Extracted from the article]

Bangladesh garment factories have reopened after being closed for four days due to unrest in the country. The government has given clearance for all government factories to resume operations. The unrest was sparked by protests against civil service employment quotas, with at least 150 people killed and several thousand wounded in clashes with law enforcers. The student group leading the protests has suspended demonstrations for now, and the government plans to further relax the stay-home order as the situation improves. Last year, protests over higher minimum wages in Bangladesh resulted in garment workers being fired and some losing their lives. [Extracted from the article]

LEADERSHIP ,LAW enforcement ,RIOTS ,CURFEWS ,MAYORS ,JOURNALISTS ,COVID-19 ,EMPATHY - Abstract
When several local mayors fiercely denunciated the violent riots that erupted after a curfew was imposed as a COVID-19 mitigant in the Netherlands, journalistic and academics critics soon warned that such responses often unjustly and counter-effectively depoliticize and delegitimize public protest. The commentators joined a choir of scholars who postulate that public authorities readily distance themselves from troublemakers, let alone acknowledge their grievances. However, our content of mayors' public responses to the Dutch 2021 anti-curfew riots in 719 newspaper articles finds that office holders portray considerable relational awareness. We find that mayors communicate a complex leadership style that crucially combines strict law enforcement with interpersonal empathy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Curfews period of December 2015 to February 2016 in south-eastern Turkey was a time of collective violence in multiple forms, among which the Cizre Basement Massacres are the most known. The period of the general elections in June 2015, until the later and most recent attempt to carry out a military coup in July 2016, covers multiple curfews and military operations in the south-eastern regions of Turkey, and some social media material shared from the region caught international attention and provoked artistic as well as political responses. Zehra Doğan, a Kurdish journalist and artist, modified and re-shared some footage that was first posted in social media accounts of the special forces in Nusaybin and as a result was sentenced to three years in prison. She continued to produce artworks in prison, even though it was 'prohibited' for her to draw. She started to use her own body fluids, hair, newspaper, toilet paper, and any other available daily material in the prison to produce works of art. She also produced a series of work with her menstrual blood. For this article, I conducted two thematic one-to-one discussions with Zehra Doğan and studied her series of works produced with menstrual blood within the scope of mimesis and embodiment theories. Further sections of the article discuss: the function of these series of works for her acting out and working through processes of the collective political violence of which she became both a witness and a victim; methods of artistic transmission of political violence both for the artist and for the audience; and the possible ritualistic functions of using blood while producing work of arts in relation to collective political killings. The study identified the effectiveness of implementing curfew in the Municipality of Dilasag adopted from the Executive Order (E.O.) No. 2020-0025 s.2020 from the Provincial Government of Aurora. It was focused on the profile, the implementation of curfew regarding security, discipline, health, and crimes, and the citizens' recommendations as part of the research. The study used the descriptive research method to identify the perceptions of 359 respondents selected by Slovin's formula and systematic random sampling who had also answered the survey questionnaire. The average weighted mean revealed that curfew implementation was effective and improved the community's security, discipline, health, and crime prevention. The chi-square test as the utilized statistical treatment revealed that profile such as sex, educational attainment, and occupation has no significant difference in implementing a curfew. However, it was shown in the study that age profile has a highly significant difference in health and crime prevention and has a significant difference in security and discipline. Furthermore, the study signified that the age group was correlated to the curfew implementation, that older respondents perceived a high level of effectiveness of curfew implementation compared to younger respondents. Finally, parents' participation is an important recommendation and is still needed to improve curfew implementation in the community., and supporting political and security stability. The aim of the current research is to investigate and analyzing behavior of the Arab Fencers during COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The study has utilized a descriptive survey that covers 120 fencers from eight Arab countries. The Arab Fencing Association was a major mediator for distributing the developed electronic questionnaire to the fencers and clubs. The statistical results obtained from the questionnaire showed that curfew periods have harmed the training conditions for the fencers and consequently on their sporting behavior. Moreover, the periodical contact between the coaches and the players has contributed significantly to maintaining athletic behavior, physical skills, psychological stability, and commitment to ethics and traditions. The study recommends that it's important to continue the current successful approach by providing encouragement and support for the fencers, to maintain their mental and physical skills. Also, special alternative training programs should be developed and prepared for the fencers to be ready for the post-pandemic. Finally, it is necessary to conduct researches that tackle the negative psychological and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present paper explores the translation of adolescents' speech from English into Spanish using three free online translation tools (Apertium, Systran and Google Translate), and two corpora based on oral communication (the Bergen Corpus of London Teenage Language and the Linguistic Innovators Corpus). Additionally, errors were classified in terms of accuracy and fluency, and a revised version after post-editing is provided in order to overcome these mistranslations. Our findings show that the errors these Machine Translation applications produce have to do with the translation of cultural aspects, abbreviations, proper names of cities and people, as well as the loss of coherence of some extracts due to the character limit imposed by some of the tools used. Finally, emphasis is placed on the need to open new lines of research considering proverbs and idioms with a wider range of data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article introduces a special section of Theatre History Studies that addresses recent challenging events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the murder of George Floyd, and the storming of the US Capitol. The authors initially hesitated to edit the journal issue due to negative experiences with the academic submission process but decided to proceed with a focus on caring for their colleagues and creating a nurturing editorial approach. They reflect on the positive experience of this approach and express gratitude for the profound essays contributed by artists, activists, and scholars. The text also discusses the challenges and opportunities faced by scholars in the field of premodern critical race studies, highlighting the increasing demand for diversity and race scholarship in academia. It acknowledges the backlash and skepticism faced by scholars in this field and emphasizes the need for sustained support and resources to foster meaningful research and scholarship. The article concludes by introducing a collection of essays that explore the concept of care in various contexts, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful and effective action in addressing societal inequalities. Governments often use curfews as counterinsurgency measures. Do such state actions affect citizens' political preferences? We argue that citizens' responses depend on their group alignment. Citizens who are aligned with the government are more likely to interpret state actions as serving their interests and reward the governing parties as a result. Citizens who are aligned with the insurgent movement, however, are likely to interpret these same actions as targeted and disengage from politics: they have no reason to reward the governing parties and may also be fearful of expressing support for the parties affiliated with the insurgent movement. We find support for this argument with survey data from Turkey, fielded before and during curfews. When exposed to curfews, Turks generally increase their support for the governing party. However Kurds do not increase their support for the governing party or the opposition; instead, we present strong evidence that they withdraw their support from the Kurdish opposition and become more hesitant to express any political preferences. Aircraft noise is generally regarded as the most annoying source of environmental noise and is the most common source of complaints raised by residents living in the vicinity of airports. Many different types of abatement measures can be utilized by airports to reduce the noise impact, but the manner of their implementation can vary between airports. To assess how noise control strategies are implemented across the United States (US), a national survey of noise abatement strategies was conducted. The paper provides a summary of this survey and reports the noise control approaches at 42 different airports across the US. The survey considered general aspects of noise control, as well as specific questions related to noise abatement procedures, noise limits and curfews. Participants were also asked their opinion on the impact of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Balanced Approach, which is the ICAO recommended framework to address aircraft noise. Although just a snapshot of activities across the US is presented, results indicate that a wide array of noise abatement procedures is being implemented. Results also suggest that the ICAOBalanced Approach has yet to be fully embraced in the US, with a large proportion of respondents reporting that they are not familiar with this approach. SPEECH ,ENGLISH language ,CURFEWS ,PRIME ministers ,WORLD health ,VERBS - Abstract
This paper will focus on the speech that Boris Johnson, who was Prime Minister at the time, gave to the nation; in the address, Johnson forbid the UK population to go out during the global health crisis that COVID-19 caused. The study will attempt to elucidate, in part by reference to classical rhetoric, what English expressions Johnson used to persuade the people to accept the unprecedented inconveniences of the curfew. In this speech, Johnson used different verbs, especially auxiliary verbs, in each content block. In some content blocks, however, he used few verbs, relying instead mostly on nouns to add an appealing rhythmic cadence. In addition, Johnson specifically repeated "stay at home" five times during the speech, treating the phrase as a slogan and placing it in both the introduction and conclusion of the speech for emphasis. In short, he dared to repeat the same phrase without paraphrasing, which is preferred in English, and because the sentences and expressions are plain, the repetition enhanced the sense of urgency in what was a crisis situation. This paper analyzes the particular expressions Johnson used in his risk management speech to clarify how certain phrases can prove more persuasive in times of crisis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article investigates protesting when there are restrictions on public assembly. In spring 2020, social movements (partly unwittingly) used choreographic means in order to deal with the prohibition of public gatherings, imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Examples in Tel Aviv (Black Flag protest, 19 April) and the campaign Empty Chairs in Germany (24 April) have one prominent characteristic in common: The lack of expansive spatial movement. The article delineates the ways in which these protests aimed to make their voices heard: Choreographic arrangements of physically distanced bodies were assigned on site to produce highly affective images for social media, thus shifting the focus of the protests’ visibility into the online public sphere. In addition, the different situations of vulnerable bodies calling to action are of interest: Given the pandemic times, the concept of protection takes precedence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While it is true that food delivery platforms are a novel phenomenon, their presence was barely noticeable until the COVID-19 pandemic struck and a state of emergency was declared. This state of emergency led to various measures, including the imposition of curfews, sometimes extending for days. These restrictions on the freedom of movement rendered it impossible for citizens to leave their homes without special permits. Delivery couriers, equipped with the required movement permits, were seen as a lifeline by the housebound populace. Gradually, necessity evolved into habit, propelling these platforms to become some of the fastest-growing businesses in Serbia. Today, it is almost unthinkable to step outside without encountering a delivery courier from Glovo, Wolt or Mr. D. However, the rise of food delivery platform work in Serbia has not been without challenges. One significant issue is the limited protection afforded to self-employed persons working for these platforms. Additionally, there is a matter of violating the rights of employees in limited liability companies that have entered into "partnership agreements" with the platforms. The problem of informal employment also looms large, often manifesting in unofficial collaborations between entrepreneur-status workers and their colleagues. Despite efforts to address these issues, Serbia has yet to establish a clear definition of what constitutes a platform worker and the rights they are entitled to. This leaves us pondering the crucial question: where do we go from here? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The coronavirus (COVID-19) is triggering negative mental health conditions for university students resulting from lockdown. This study explored the depressive and the anxious reaction to the lockdown caused by COVID-19 among Egyptian university students. Furthermore, the study examined the differences among students in gender, academic level, marital status, living condition, and the source of information used to acquire knowledge about COVID-19. An online survey was developed and employed to assess the depressive and the anxious reaction to lockdown on April 14th, 2020, 19 days after the beginning of applying the confinement and the overnight nationwide curfew by the Egyptian government. The survey was fulfilled by 305 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the British University in Egypt (BUE). The results showed significant differences between students in gender, academic levels, and living conditions in their depressive and anxious reactions towards the lockdown. Furthermore, the higher prevalence of using social media sites to acquire information about COVID-19 was observed in highly depressive students. In the high anxious students' group, the results indicated that there were no significant differences between all sources of information. the current results may be used to improve psychological intervention programs such as online counseling to help students cope with any disruptive event that may affect their wellbeing. He said that patients were being treated by two doctors and three nurses in north Kalay who had joined the CDM, while some go to a hospital in the city run by the military government. Kalay (or Kalaymyo) in Myanmar's northwestern Sagaing Region was among the first zones in the country to revolt against the military coup more than two years ago. The author comments on the use of the youth in the Central Australian town of Alice Springs in the platforming of political agendas as Australians prepare for the vote on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. Cited are the claim by those who opposed to the Voice that the rampant crime and social chaos in Alice Springs demonstrates exactly why it will not work, and the impact of the persistent reshaping of racialised regimes of governance on how young people are treated.

And while 13 is the commonly required minimum age to log into social media platforms in the U.S., nearly 40% of children ages 8 to 12 use social media. Murthy's advisory tells a very different story of social media use in the U.S., where up to 95% of adolescents aged 13 to 17 report using a social media platform, with more than a third saying they use social media "almost constantly.". But as House Republicans prepared a vote on the resolution disapproving of the new code in February, the White House issued a veto threat decrying the "denial of self-governance" in the federal district as "an affront to the democratic values on which our Nation was founded." Now Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg has been holding grand-jury hearings, evidently with the intention of prosecuting Trump for falsifying business records - a misdemeanor state crime that can rise to a felony if committed for the purpose of committing "another crime" - violating federal campaign-finance laws, perhaps, or money-laundering. What Zelensky said in toto was that if Ukraine loses, "Russia is going to enter Baltic states, NATO member states, and then the U.S. will have to send their sons and daughters, exactly the same way as we are sending, their sons and daughters to war." East Asia's fertility and cost-of-living crises are becoming a boon to younger nations such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, which have all been recipients of manufacturing investment from the region's older nations. QUARANTINE ,CURFEWS ,COVID-19 pandemic ,STAY-at-home orders - Abstract
In March 2020, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte implemented an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon, Philippines, which restricted movement and required people to stay at home. A quarantine pass was introduced, allowing one designated representative per household to leave their homes. Those without a pass were subject to arrest, with President Duterte even ordering them to be shot. This document highlights the securitization of everyday life and the authoritarian tactics employed during the public health crisis. The quarantine pass is seen as a symbol of the regime's attempt to justify violence as necessary. [Extracted from the article]

PARENTING , *CURFEWS , *JUVENILE delinquency , *FAMILY structure , *JUVENILE offenders , *STAY-at-home orders - Abstract
High youth crime rates pose a threat to sustainable development in less economically developed regions such as the Caribbean. Despite increasing delinquency trends during home lockdowns in the 2020-2021 COVID pandemic there is limited documentation on the impact of home-based risk and protective factors on delinquent adolescent behaviour. This paper explores the link between family structure, parental involvement, and selected indicators of student behavioural and academic performance among a stratified random sample of Jamaican high school students between the ages of 11--19 years, using a nationally representative dataset (N=3365). Binary logistic regression revealed that parents' knowledge of their child's location outside of school hours, control of their child's curfew, and attention to their child's schoolwork were significantly associated with the likelihood of truancy and behavioural problems in school over the previous reference year. Parental knowledge of their child's friends was significantly associated with students' academic performance. Living arrangements and marital status were important factors associated with parental involvement proxies, with married parents exhibiting the most knowledge of their children's whereabouts of all structures examined. The results suggest that the impact of family relations and attention may be relevant beyond home contexts and may influence school behaviour and academic performance. It follows that these results provide potential insights into school behaviour management programs aimed at improving overall student behaviour. Insights from this study may also be upscaled and tested in other similar contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SUMMARY: In this narrative, I offer a lightly fictionalized version of my experience returning to Kenya from the United States to conduct fieldwork from late 2020 through mid‐2021, a period when the COVID‐19 pandemic was ravaging globally. My narrative reveals how local people draw on their knowledge of the corrupt police system to resist COVID‐19 restrictions as they navigate and make meaning of their day‐to‐day lives during the pandemic and how the police use the mask mandate and curfew to take bribes from people who defy these restrictions. The story also brings into question the extent to which native ethnographers can re‐immerse themselves into the everyday lives of their home communities while balancing the many intersecting factors that inform their positionality. Beyond investigating the ways cartels make use of the digital and virtual as tools towards specific ends, this digital narco terror event also points to broader questions. This act of digital narco terrorism was simultaneously a challenge to rivaling Sinaloa and Arellano Felix cartels in the region, and a sophisticated, if logistically straightforward, demonstration of narco power. This uncertainty and ever-present possibility of "something happening", this invisible yet everywhere narco aesthetic that haunts daily life is what I discuss as narco-spectrality in my article in this issue.
