Abstract

Beyond investigating the ways cartels make use of the digital and virtual as tools towards specific ends, this digital narco terror event also points to broader questions. This act of digital narco terrorism was simultaneously a challenge to rivaling Sinaloa and Arellano Felix cartels in the region, and a sophisticated, if logistically straightforward, demonstration of narco power. This uncertainty and ever-present possibility of "something happening", this invisible yet everywhere narco aesthetic that haunts daily life is what I discuss as narco-spectrality in my article in this issue.
