Overweight, obesity, and breast cancer are three pathologies that are endemic in the world today and which have a great impact on society. Many research studies are currently trying to discover possible associations between these factors and to specify the links between them. Objective: To verify whether there is a direct connection between overweight/obesity in women with breast cancer and its relation to age of diagnosis. Materials and methods: The sample population in this study was composed of 118 women (32-76 years of age) who had been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2009-2011 at the Centro Oncológico Estatal ISSEMyM [National Cancer Institute of Mexico]. An observational, descriptive, and transversal study was performed in which a random sample of n = 60 women was divided into two groups. The first group was composed of women with breast cancer, but who were of normal weight. The second group was composed of women with breast cancer, but who were either overweight or obese. In both groups, the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) was applied, and the BMI (weight and height) was determined as well as waist circumference. Results: A statistically significant relation was found between age of diagnosis and weight (normal/overweight/obese) of the subjects (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The results obtained show that overweight and obesity are directly linked to breast cancer and age of diagnosis. Breast cancer was diagnosed earlier in women of normal weight. The objective of this study was to first determine the nutritional state of a sample population of school children, and then analyze the distribution pattern of their subcutaneous fat layer. The sample was composed of 977 school children from the city and province of Granada (Spain). All of the children (524 girls and 452 boys) were 9-17 years of age. To study their nutritional state and the distribution of the subcutaneous fat layer, they were given a complete anthropometric evaluation, which included measuring their weight, height, body mass index, skin folds, and body perimeters. The results obtained showed a 23.01% prevalence of overweight in the female subjects and 20.81% in the male subjects. Furthermore, the female subjects had an obesity prevalence of 12.70% in comparison to the male subjects, whose obesity prevalence was 4.98%. The distribution pattern of subcutaneous fat was found to be mainly located in the central part of body. The high percentage of overweight and obesity along with the development of a central fat distribution pattern (neck, chest, and abdomen) in these school children is clear evidence of potential cardiovascular risk. The World Health Organization (WHO) regards obesity as one of the most serious public health problems in the world that can affect young children and adolescents. Accordingly, a major priority is to find ways to more effectively study and analyze the various methods used to diagnose and evaluate the nutritional state of the pediatric and adolescent population. The nutritional indicators currently employed for this purpose are the body mass index and body-fat percentage. However, there is a certain controversy related to the body-fat percentage since it tends to overestimate overweight and obesity. The main objectives of this study were the following: (i) to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in a population of primary and secondary school children between 9-17 years of age at 13 educational centers in the city and province of Granada; (ii) to verify possible differences regarding the accuracy of the body mass index and the body-fat percentage in the diagnosis of overweight and obesity. According to recent research, eating behaviour should be understand as a cyclical and interactive process in which parental eating habits cause children to develop specific eating strategies as well as their own eating habits. Needless to say, this interactive process is reflected and has a direct impact on the nutritional indicators of the children in a family. The objectives of this study were the following: (i) to verify the existence of a significant association between the educational level of parents and the nutritional state of children in the same family; (ii) to discover if there is a direct relation between the nutritional state of children and the person that decides the menu and/or prepares family meals; (iii) to determine if there is a link between the nutritional state of children and the time that they spend on sedentary leisure activities. Obesity and breast cancer are two very frequent pathologies in the world today, which have a strong impact on society. Various research studies have tried linking the two. For this purpose, data was collected from the medical histories of 524 women who had been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer from January 2009 to September 2010. The objectives of the study were to find and verify a possible association between the nutritional state of these women and their age when they were diagnosed with the tumour (p < 0.0001) as well as a statistically significant association (p < 0.0001) between the age of the first menstruation and the nutritional state of the patients. Also known as ferroxidase, ceruloplasmin belongs to the family of inflammation-sensitive proteins, and its main function is to transport copper in the blood. Although, in addition to this transport function, at present, there are numerous studies that have attempted to use the determination of serum concentrations as a predictive indicator of cardiovascular risk in patients who are overweight or obese. The results of this study confirm the existence of a significant correlation between serum ceruloplasmin and nutritional status of the subjects, which means that for the population of students assessed, serum levels of this protein are an important predictor the risk of cardiovascular disease. Objectives: The objective of this research was to study the prevalence of obesity and excess weight in a population of school children and adolescents, and to verify the effectiveness of an educational intervention, as reflected in the variation of their body mass index values. Materials: The population sample was composed of 977 school children and adolescents from 9 to 17 years of age, belonging to 13 public elementary schools and high schools in the city and province of Granada (Spain). Methodology: This longitudinal cohort study was analytical, muticentric, and observational. It was carried out in three phases. The first phase involved the evaluation of the nutritional state of the sample population by means of anthropometric measurements (weight, height, body mass index, six skin folds and four body perimeters) as well as arterial blood pressure. The second phase entailed an educational intervention focusing on good nutritional habits and physical exercise. The third and final phase evaluated the effectiveness of the intervention. Results: A higher obesity prevalence (15.1%) was found in school girls between 12 and 13. In the case of boys, obesity prevalence was lower up to age 13 though afterwards, it progressively increased (12.6%). The educational intervention produced an important reduction in body mass index values in both sexes though this reduction was more significant in young females. Conclusions: There is a currently an alarming increase in obesity and overweight prevalence among the population evaluated in this study. Introducción: España se ha convertido en el cuarto país de la Unión Europea con mayor niño con sobrepeso y obesidad. Esta enfermedad afecta directamente tanto aspectos de salud física como psicológicos. El objetivo de este estudio es conocer la influencia de la actividad física, en niños y adolescentes obesos, en el estrés percibido1-2-3. Los mecanismos biológicos que vinculan la obesidad y la reactividad al estrés, son poco conocidos. El tejido adiposo es ahora reconocido como un importante órgano endocrino que segrega moléculas de señalización que desempeñan un papel central en la inflamación, la regulación del peso y la función metabólica incluyendo las citoquinas. La leptina es secretada en el torrente sanguíneo, en proporción a la masa del tejido adiposo, y se une a los receptores en los núcleos hipotalámicos específicos para regular el equilibrio de energía al reducir el apetito y estimulando la actividad del sistema nervioso simpático (SNS) .Del mismo modo, la infusión crónica de leptina aumenta la frecuencia cardiaca, presión arterial y las catecolaminas circulantes. Material y método: Se realizará un estudio observacional, descriptivo, prospectivo y longitudinal. El universo estará constituido por 60 niños y adolescentes con edades comprendidas entre 10 y 18 con sobrepeso/obesidad. La valoración tendrá lugar desde septiembre de 2012 hasta septiembre de 2013. Para la recogida de las muestras de saliva se utilizará el método ELISA6. También se recogerán variables como el IMC, hábitos de vida y alimentación. Resultados: De entre los resultados esperados están el bajar el sobrepeso y obesidad en los niños mediante el programa de actividad física. Introducción: El dolor del niño comporta una serie de cambios importantes que afecta a su forma de vida y que provoca una serie de emociones y conductas, en muchos casos inadaptadas. El sobrepeso y la obesidad es un factor de riesgo para padecer dolor sobre todo osteo-articulares. Objetivo: Comparar el dolor músculo esquelético en niños y adolescentes con sobrepesos y obesidad con un grupo de niños y adolescentes de la misma edad y género con normopeso. Material y método: En el presente estudio observacional de casos-controles participaron 120 niños y adolescentes, 55 % varones y el 45% hembras con edades comprendidas entre 10 y 18 años. Se dividieron en un grupo de 60 niños con sobrepeso/obesidad y en un grupo control con 60 jóvenes con normopeso. El dolor músculo-esquelético se evaluó mediante entrevista, exploración y historia clínica. Se recogieron datos demográficos, historias clínicas, antecedentes familiares, status social, nivel económico, índice de masa corporal y valoración nutricional, nivel de ansiedad, motivación y síntomas de dolor. La valoración tuvo lugar desde septiembre de 2011 hasta septiembre de 2012. Resultados: El grupo con sobrepeso/obesidad tenían niveles de dolores músculo-esqueléticos mayor comparados con el grupo de normopeso con un nivel de significación de p < 0,05. No hubo diferencias en relación a las otras variables estudiadas, parta todas p > 0,05. Los niveles de motivación también eran menor en los grupos de sobrepeso y obesidad comparados con el grupo de normopeso con una p < 0,05. Introducción: El parto prematuro es la principal causa de mortalidad y morbilidad neonatal a corto y a largo plazo. Por ello, cada vez adquiere más relevancia la detención precoz de posibles factores de riesgo asociados a este tipo de parto. La dieta materna influye en el desarrollo fetal y en la salud de la madre, tanto en la etapa gestacional como en la etapa de lactancia. Objetivos: Analizar el estado nutricional de las gestantes y su influencia en el parto prematuro. Material y métodos: Estudio observacional retrospectivo y descriptivo. El universo fue 274 historias clínicas de las madres de los recién nacidos ingresados entre enero de 2010 a septiembre de 2012 en la Unidad Neonatal del Hospital Universitario "San Cecilio" de Granada (España). Con una muestra aleatoria de n = 51 mujeres. Se recogieron variables sociodemográficas, nutricionales y gineco-obstétricas. Resultados: El 60,8% declara un consumo alto (bastante/mucho) de dulces, el 51% consumo alto de golosinas, el 33,3% de refrescos y el 53% consumo alto de fritos o precocinados. En el análisis bivariante se encontró un mayor consumo de golosinas en las mujeres con parto prematuro (< = 33 semanas), 78,4% vs 38,5% (p = 0,014); menor consumo de pescado, 18,96% vs 46,2% (p = 0,073). El % de madres que cocina con aceite de oliva es significativamente menor entre las que tienen parto prematuro que en aquellas con parto a término, 51,4% vs 92,3% (p = 0,009). Conclusiones: La dieta de la gestante es un factor determinante en la prematuridad, influyendo la escasa ingesta de pescado y elevada de bebidas hidrocarbonatadas, bollería y alimentos fritos o precocinados. Introducción: Según la organización mundial de la salud (OMS) más de mil millones de personas sufren sobrepeso en todo el mundo y trescientos millones de personas se consideran obesos. En Europa, en la actualidad, uno de cada seis niños, es decir el 20% tiene sobrepeso, y orto de cada veinte adolescentes, es decir el 5%, es obeso. Se estima que la prevalencia de apnea en niños es de un 2-3% en la población general, mientras que, en adolescentes obesos, varia entre el 13% y el 66%, según distintos estudios. Se asocia con la afectación de la función neurocognitiva, comportamiento, sistema cardiovascular, alteraciones metabólicas así como del crecimiento. Se postula que el ejercicio de resistencia aeróbica es un tratamiento efectivo para disminuir la obesidad y a apnea del sueño. Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio es conocer si la actividad física en niños con sobrepeso/obesidad disminuye la apnea del sueño. Material y método: Se realizará un estudio observación al, descriptivo, prospectivo, longitudinal con niños que padecen apnea del sueño y obesidad. El universo estará constituido por 60 niños y adolescentes con edades comprendidas entre 10 y 18 años que acudan a la consulta de endocrinología por tener obesidad en el Hospital Clínico San Cecilio de Granada durante el período de septiembre 2012-septiembre 2013. La apnea del sueño se medirá en los niños mediante una polisomnografía y un cuestionario de calidad del sueño. También se hará una valoración nutricional a través de un cuestionario de frecuencia de consumo alimentario y una valoración antropométrica. Introducción: Los compuestos fenólicos de la familia de los flavonoides, entre los que se encuentran las procianidinas, han demostrado tener efectos neuroprotectores, quimioprotectores y cardioprotectores en múltiples y variados estudios. Por otra parte, de todos es conocida la importante función que el ejercicio físico ejerce como arma terapéutica sobre la obesidad. Objetivos: En este estudio comparamos la acción sobre la obesidad del ejercicio físico y de las procianidinas en parámetros bioquímicos sanguíneos como la glucosa, colesterol total y sus fracciones LDLy HDL, además de los triglicéridos. Material y métodos: Se ha llevado a cabo un estudio experimental con ratas albinas de la cepa Wistar. Se establecieron 4 grupos de 10 animales cada uno: en el grupo control (C), los animales fueron sometidos a condiciones y dieta normales; el grupo (O) fue alimentado con una dieta hipercalórica al igual que los grupos P, tratado además con procianidinas, y EF, el cual fue sometido a ejercicio físico regular. Se determinaron los parámetros de glucemia, fracciones LDL y HDL del colesterol y triglicéridos sanguíneos, mediante métodos enzimáticos. Resultados: Los niveles de triglicéridos plasmáticos se redujeron un 45,5% en el grupo P y en un 56,6% en el grupo EF3. El colesterol total no mostró diferencias significativas entre grupo control y los grupos P y EF, pero sí en su distribución en las diferentes fracciones Iipoprotéicas, siendo la fracción HDL superior en los grupos P y EF, y la fracción LDL reducida. Las cifras de glucemia variaron significativamente en los grupos P y EF con respecto al control y, sobre todo, respecto al grupo O. Conclusiones: Los resultados de este estudio muestran que estas sustancias y el ejercicio físico son útiles para conservar el equilibrio natural y las funciones del endotelio vascular, constituyéndose como elementos terapéuticos para la prevención de factores de riesgo cardiovascular que serán determinantes en la obesidad. Introducción: La Taxonomía II de la NANDA-I proporciona una terminología clínicamente útil y describe la base del conocimiento del que la enfermera es responsable. Una dimensión del diagnóstico es la edad de la persona cuyos valores son: Feto, Neonato, Lactante, Niño pequeño, Preescolar, Escolar, Adolescente, Adulto y Anciano. Objetivo: Identificar diagnósticos enfermeros que en su estructura contengan conceptos relativos a la alimentación/nutrición infantil. Metodología: Se realiza una revisión de los 221 diagnósticos enfermeros aprobados en la conferencia de NANDA-2010, buscando aquellos que tanto en el título, como en las características definitorias y factores relacionados incluyan palabras relativas a la alimentación/nutrición infantil. Resultados: Se identifican palabras relativas a alimentación/ nutrición infantil en tos diagnósticos: Leche materna insuficiente, Patrón de alimentación ineficaz del lactante, Lactancia materna ineficaz, Interrupción de la lactancia materna y Disposición para mejorar la lactancia materna. En los factores relacionados: Prematuridad, Informes del uso de alimentos sólidos como principal fuente de alimentación antes de los 5 meses de edad, Intolerancia alimentaria y malnutrición, Nutrición inadecuada y prematuridad, Malnutrición y prematuridad; la única característica definitoria es La debilidad para aspirar que se refleja en una mordida ineficaz. Conclusión: El título orienta la elección del diagnóstico, pero la Enfermera Pediátrica ha de conocer también los factores relacionados y las características definitorias para resolver los problemas de salud que el niño puede tener en relación con la alimentación y la nutrición. Introducción: El recién nacido prematuro (RNP) presenta unas necesidades nutricionales especiales. La alimentación ideal para los RNP es aquella que consigue un crecimiento óptimo y similar al que adquiría en el útero. Objetivo: Conocer las diferentes investigaciones en las cuales se comparen los distintos tipos de alimentación de los RNP: leche materna (LM) de la propia madre, LM enriquecida y leche artificial. Métodos: Se llevó a cabo una búsqueda manual de libros de enfermería y pediatría; y una revisión bibliográfica actualizada, a partir de artículos publicados en base de datos electrónicas: Cinahl, Cochrane, Pubmed, Medline; y en una revista electrónica: Pedriatrics. Los criterios de selección empleados son artículos completos publicados entre los años 2010 y 2012, y cuyas palabras clave aparecieran o en el título o en el abstract. Resultados: Muchos investigadores coinciden en las magnificas cualidades de la LM, que protege al bebé de enfermedades como la enterocolitis necrotizante y una posible desnutrición, obesidad, diabetes infantil o deficiencia de micronutrientes en el futuro. Estos beneficios no se pueden obtener de la leche artificial. Este tipo de leche se ha postulado que puede ser un factor de riesgo para algunas enfermedades a corto y a largo plazo. Debido al bajo peso y escaso desarrollo de los RNP es frecuente enriquecer la LM para adaptarla a las necesidades del lactante. Sin embargo, otros estudios identifican las propiedades nutricionales suficientes y específicas de la leche de mujeres que dan a luz bebés prematuros. En los últimos años se están produciendo numerosas investigaciones que ponen de manifiesto que la leche humana sería suficiente tanto cuantitativa como cualitativa en bebés que nacen con un peso de más de1.500g. Conclusión: Es muy importante conocer de la alimentación RNP y asegurarse de que cubre todas sus necesidades. Entre los posibles tipos de leche para alimentar al lactante, la mayoría de los trabajos revisados evidencian que la LM es la nutrición más apropiada ya que protege al bebé de numerosas patologías y permite un crecimiento adecuado. Introducción: El desarrollo de ciertas enfermedades en la edad adulta incluida la obesidad pueden "programarse" desde la vida en el útero materno, de forma que factores ambientales que afectan a la embarazada pueden ser determinantes para el resto de la vida del niño. Objetivo: Revisión bibliográfica sistemática a cerca del desarrollo del tejido adiposo fetal y la influencia de factores genéticos, dietéticos y ambientales sobre el riesgo a largo plazo de padecer obesidad. Material y métodos: Se llevó a cabo una búsqueda electrónica en diversas fuentes (pubmed, medline, google). En las investigaciones que hemos revisado se establecen cuatro grupos de estudio, uno control y tres grupos problema, formados por embarazadas con riesgo de que sus hijos desarrollen obesidad: Grupo I: diabetes gestacional (con intolerancia a la glucosa demostrada por una curva de glucemia patológica durante la gestación a partir de la semana 25. Grupo II: embarazadas con ganancia ponderal por debajo de la curva estándar. Grupo III: mujeres gestantes con ganancia ponderal por encima de la curva estándar. Grupo IV: grupo control de embarazadas sanas. Mujeres con gestación absolutamente normal sin factores de riesgo y con parámetros somatométricos y nutricionales normales. Resultados: Dichos artículos evidencian que la genética, alimentación materna, patologías metabólicas maternas así como la nutrición del bebé en los primeros meses de vida están implicadas en la etiología de la obesidad y sus consecuencias a largo plazo. Introducción: Del 2% al 14% de los niños nacen de madres con diabetes gestación al, y este porcentaje continua aumentando. Aunque la mayoría de los bebés de madres diabéticas son asintomáticos en el nacimiento y parecen desarrollarse normalmente, hay estudios que han mostrado déficits en el neurodesarrollo. Objetivos: El objetivo de esta revisión sistemática ha sido valorar si la condición metabólica de diabetes durante el embarazo está asociada con retrasos en el neurodesarrollo del niño. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática sin limite por fecha ni idioma. Las bases de datos consultadas fueron MedLine, Embase, Centre for Reviews and Dissemination y la Cochrane Library. Los términos MESH usados fueron: "pregnancy in diabetics", "infant, "child development" y "neorobehavioral manifestations". Como criterio de inclusión se seleccionaron estudios comparativos con grupo control. La calidad fue evaluada con la lista de comprobación CASPe. Resultados: Se localizaron 142 referencias, seleccionándose 6 estudios comparativos que cumplían tos criterios de inclusión. Estos estudios analizaban áreas como el lenguaje, inteligencia, aspectos motores, aspectos sociales, funcionamiento cognoscitivo y problemas emocionales. Se apreció un empeoramiento de todas las áreas evaluadas en los hijos de madres con diabetes gestacional en comparación con los grupos control. La calidad metodológica de los estudios evaluados fue moderada. Conclusión: Los resultados sugieren que los cambios metabólicos en el ambiente fetal generados por la presencia de diabetes gestacional afectan el proceso normal de desarrollo y maduración neurona) del niño, ocasionando a largo plazo un compromiso marginal a nivel del funcionamiento del sistema nervioso central. There are different parameters to express the loss of weight in the treatment of overweight and obesity: absolute loss, percentage of loss, decrease in BMI, etc. Objective: To determine the magnitudes more used in the bibliography in order to establish criteria for uniformity in the expression of those results. Methods: a systematic review of the last five years has made at Proquest, CINHAL, Scopus, with descriptors “body fat distribution" and “diet" and “diet, reducing" and “weight loss". Articles published in English, French and Spanish were selected. Inclusion criteria were used: articles only dietary treatment of overweight in humans, and exclusion criteria: not dietary treatments, metabolic diseases, less than 50 patients and less than 8 weeks of treatment. Title, summary, methodology, results and discussion have been analysed by two researchers independently. Results and discussion: 854 items found, only 61 met the criteria. These were grouped into 5 subgroups, as they expressed the weight loss (weight or fat loss in kg; weight and fat loss in kg; weight or fat loss in %; weight loss in % and fat loss in kg or vice versa; weight and far loss in%). The results show a lack of homogeneity in the loss, being the percentage the most used expression. Conclusions: There is great heterogeneity in the expression of results of the treatments for weight loss; the diet is one of the least used tools; the analysis of clinical trials of intervention reflects a high quality in subjects older than 18 years, highlighting the lack of this type of research lines in children under 18 years. Child growth constitutes a very sensitive indicator for the assessment of their health state. Any deviation from standard parameters could entail the appearance of any congenital or acquired disorder. Identifying with precision children's bone age during their growth period can be very useful in different situations. From a clinical point of view, it is a tool for diagnosis, which can offer the possibility of monitoring treatment effects in the case of standard deviations. This is why we need to study in depth current methods and carry out regular controls that insure their reliability. Currently, the most frequent radiological methods in our country for the determination of children's bone age were designed in the middle of the 20th century on the basis of X-rays performed on children from other countries. Thus, it would be interesting to find out whether social, economic, nutritional and health changes in Spain have influenced child growth and development in a significant way. Hence it would invalidate traditional methods for the determination of bone age. This study came from a main hypothesis: the child's environment significantly influences the concordance of bone age and chronological age. Our aim was to study a possible relationship between nutrition and bone development. Thus, the fastest way of testing this hypothesis was to implement a cross-sectional prevalence study in order to determine the percentage of children showing a chronological age concording with bone age. The study was entirely carried out in the Traumatology Hospital of Granada, which belongs to the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves. We used the information provided by the Emergency Department about slight traumatisms. The cross-section sample was adapted to our main hypothesis. The overall number of patients was 100, which exceeds the necessary cases to test the reliability of this particular study. On the other hand, in order to determine the concordance of bone age and its different variables, an analytical study was also carried out, which includes: an univariant analysis, a bivariate analysis and a multivariate analysis, with the various tests they usually include. We found out that children showing a delayed bone age eat less bread than those showing an advanced bone age. It would be necessary to determine whether bone age and bone mass have inversely related values before considering it as concordant information. We could only determine that, currently, advanced bone maturation is usually associated with rapid growth. It is possible that children who eat more bread actually show an advanced bone age, a more rapid growth and a reduced bone mass. However, in this study, the outcomes must be considered just as preliminary, due to the size of the cross-section sample. Introducción: Los beneficios de la Lactancia Materna para le niño y para la relación materno - filial han sido ampliamente demostrados, de forma que en la actualidad es uno de los objetivos fundamentales en todos los organismos nacionales e internacionales que se dedican al estudio y al cuidado de los niños'-2. Las nuevas tendencias señalan que el periodo crítico para el establecimiento de una buena lactancia es el primer día después del parto y que el mejor momento para su inicio son los primeros 30 minutos de vida. Se ha podido comprobar que si el Recién Nacido no ha sido puesto al pecho en este tiempo disminuye el reflejo de succión y éste no vuelve a aparecer hasta el final de la séptima o la décima hora de vida y algo menos vigoroso. Objetivo: El objetivo que pretendemos en esta evaluación es instaurar la Lactancia Materna en las primeras horas de vida y realizar un seguimiento telefónico en los primeros 6 meses (15 días, al mes, 2,4 y 6 meses). Material y método: El material humano objeto de este trabajo se compone aproximadamente de 50 madres lactantes que en el momento de dar a luz a sus hijos fueron ingresados en las unidades de Recién Nacidos Patológicos y Prematuros. Se trata de un estudio comparativo longitudinal y prospectivo de varios años de duración realizado durante 2009/2011. El método empleado consiste en la valoración de los niños en la etapa de Recién Nacido durante su hospitalización así como atención individualizada a la madre para la instauración de la Lactancia Materna. Empleando para ello formularios de lactancia para la buena instauración de la misma y educación sanitaria e información a las madres Resultados: En el grupo estudio que representa el 55% de todos los Recién Nacidos valorados, se obtienen los siguientes resultados: El nivel de Lactancia Materna fue superior (Objetivo Lactancia Materna 6 meses). Se ha comprobado un alto nivel de participación en el seguimiento de los cuidados recomendados a los padres. En los niños evaluados pudimos comprobar una mayor incidencia de lactancia materna cuando se le enseñaba "in situ" el formulario de lactancia. Igualmente pudimos comprobar que el seguimiento de lactancia materna en meses estaba en relación con las horas que se le dedicaba a las madres (información, educación sanitaria y formación) en los primeros días después del parto. Conclusiones: Se ha comprobado que las madres necesitan un aprendizaje en cuanto a la posición del cuerpo, la respuesta del bebe, el vínculo emocional, la anatomía, la succión y el tiempo. Una de las conclusiones es que la duración de la lactancia en meses está en relación con el aprendizaje a través de los formularios de lactancia que se le han realizado a las madres los primeros días de vida del recién nacido en la propia Unidad Neonatal y con seguimiento en los primeros días postparto. Introducción: La ingesta de líquidos claros durante el parto no influye sobre la evolución del mismo, tipo de parto, duración y empleo de oxitócina, ni sobre los resultados del RN. Además se considera que mejora el confort y la satisfacción materna y no incrementan las complicaciones maternas. Objetivo: Mejorar el estado físico de las madres en el periodo del parto y posparto inmediato. Favorecer la lactancia materna. Metodología: Estudio prospectivo. Constituido por mujeres que dan a luz en el Hospital Materno Infantil Virgen de las Nieves de Granada durante los meses de abril-agosto de 2012. La muestra formada por n = 50, todas ellas con primeramente han firmado consentimiento informado para participar en el estudio. Se le practica una entrevista y se lleva a cabo la administración de líquidos de bebidas isotónicas durante el trabajo de parto. Resultados: Se confirma la hipótesis de que tomando líquidos no han tenido sensación de fatiga, poca sed y han prestado atención al RN, facilitando el contacto piel con piel en el posparto inmediato y la lactancia materna. Conclusiones: Más de la mitad de la muestra expresan verbal-mente que su estado es bueno, no encontrándose cansadas ni con sed, la actitud con su bebe en este periodo ha facilitado la lactancia materna. La mitad de las mujeres consiguen que el RN inicie la lactancia en este periodo. La mitad de la muestra expresa que se sentía mejor si lo comparaban con el parto anterior en el que no había tomado líquidos. Introducción: El análisis de la satisfacción se esta utilizando como instrumento para crear diferentes reformas sanitarias para la mejora de la calidad. Existen muchos factores relacionados con la satisfacción como la información que proporcionan los profesionales a los pacientes y los distintos tipos de parto (vía vaginal, vaginal sin epidural, cesárea y otros). En España y otros países, la frecuencia del tipo de parto vía vaginal sin epidural se esta viendo aumentado a lo largo de los años, al igual que la cesárea. Objetivo: El objetivo del presente estudio es identificar el grado de satisfacción de la mujer sobre la atención al parto y el acompañamiento durante el nacimiento. Material y método: Estudio descriptivo transversal en el Hospital Universitario San Cecilio de Granada (España) con una segunda fase de seguimiento prospectivo, durante el periodo de tiempo Agosto del 2011 al 2012. Se trata de un muestreo consecutivo de 60 madres de 2610 casos totales que tuvieron un parto en el periodo declarado en el estudio (N = 60). Se aplico un cuestionario de satisfacción validado (Escala Tipo Likert), a sesenta gestantes en las primeras 24 horas después del nacimiento. A los 14 días y a los 3 meses por vía telefónica se comprobó la información temprana obtenida y la alimentación del bebe durante los 3 meses. Resultados: El tipo de parto vaginal sin epidural (68,8% satisfacción), la lactancia materna para el bebe (53,1%), la actitud del personal sanitario (73,3%) y el estar acompañado en el momento del parto (53,3%), favorece la opinión satisfactoria de las madres. Introducción: El trabajo que se presenta al II Congreso Iberoamericano sobre Nutrición en el Niño y el Adolescente es parte de una línea de investigación que nuestro grupo de trabajo viene desarrollando en el transcurso de los últimos años. En este se presenta parte del estudio que estamos llevando a cabo sobre los adolescentes, la lactancia materna y su relación con el estrés. El estrés se manifiesta cuando estamos tristes, cansados e incluso inseguros de nuestras posibilidades. Estos pensamientos pueden inhibir la hormona de la oxitocina, que es la responsable de que las células mioepiteliales se contraigan próximas a los acínos, dando lugar a la expulsión de la leche. De una forma natural, ese reflejo se produce cuando el niño inicia la succión y si la madre piensa en algo relacionado con su bebé1-2-34-5. Material: El material humano y grupo de estudio objeto de este trabajo se compone de 50 madres lactantes adolescentes que tuvieron sus hijos ingresados en la Unidad Neonatal. El grupo de control está formado por 50 mujeres sanas adolescentes que fueron ingresadas en el servicio de puérperas del mismo hospital. Fueron valoradas anteriormente al parto, en el momento y con posterioridad al mismo. Se valora el nivel de estrés en esos tres momentos y la aparición de los síntomas de la lactogénesis. Método: El método utilizado para evaluar el descenso del estrés fisiológico en el postparto ha sido el momento de aparición de la lactogénesis. También el retraso de la lactogénesis lo hemos relacionado con el tiempo total de lactancia materna en meses. Para la validación de la investigación se utilizara el análisis estadístico descriptivo entre las variables con vista a identificar y poder actuar sobre las asociaciones con un nivel de significación alto. Resultados: En este estudio los diferentes resultados indican que la pri mi paridad, un parto largo, el estrés durante el parto, la glucosa alta en el cordón umbilical, la separación del bebé de la madre, así como tener menos de 20 años, son factores de riesgo para el retraso de la lactogénesis. Recomendamos como otros autores, que tas mujeres que presenten estas características tengan una guía de seguimiento especial de lactancia en el periodo posparto temprano de forma que pueda mejorar los resultados de la lactancia. Introducción: La nutrición materna se ha descrito como uno de los factores importantes en nacimientos de bebés pre términos. Es necesario identificar aquellos factores que podrían resultar beneficiosos para disminuir su incidencia. Objetivos: Analizar la relación entre las variables socio demográfico y nutricional en mujeres gestantes. Material y métodos: Estudio observacional retrospectivo y descriptivo. El universo fue 274 historias clínicas de las madres de los recién nacidos ingresados entre enero de 2010 a septiembre de 2012 en la Unidad Neonatal del Hospital Universitario "San Cecilio" de Granada (España). La muestra, n = 51 mujeres. Se recogieron variables sociodemográficas, nutricionales y psicosociales de las mujeres seleccionadas. Resultados: La edad de las mujeres fue 32,06 ± 5,67 de media. El 86,3% de nacionalidad española, y la mayoría con nivel de estudios secundarios (39,2%) o primarios (23,5%). El 88,2% vive con pareja y el 82,4% cuenta con apoyo familiar durante el embarazo. Se encontró una relación significativa entre el nivel de estudios y el consumo de ciertos alimentos, como legumbres, arroz y pastas, 73,7% en las mujeres con mayor nivel de estudios vs 26,3% en las de nivel bajo (p = 0,004). Las mujeres con mala o regular condición económica se produce un mayor consumo de embutidos con respecto a las que la tenían buena (77,2% vs 22,9%; p = 0,017), menor consumo de frutas (45% vs 55%; p = 0,005), mayor consumo de dulces (77,5% vs 22,5%; p = 0,001) y chucherías (80% vs 20%; p = 0,003). Las mujeres con mayor apoyo familiar consumen más frutas (100% vs 0%; p = 0,008), huevos (72,4% vs 27,6%; p = 0,033) usan más aceite de oliva (96,8% vs 3,2%), (p = 0,001) y cocinan más a la plancha (92,9% vs7,1 %; p = 0,030). Background: Vitamin D has important functions outside of bone metabolism. Deficiency has been associated with several adverse outcomes during pregnancy such as preeclampsia and prematurity. There is an increasing body of literature on this topic with studies performed to date having produced contradictory results., Objective: To synthesize the literature about vitamin D deficiency and its association with preeclampsia and prematurity in order to determine if maternal vitamin D insufficiency and/or deficiency during pregnancy is associated with the prevalence of preeclampsia and prematurity., Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational and interventional studies., Methods: Two independent researchers reviewed the included studies according to PRISMA reporting guidelines. A protocol for this review was registered in PROSPERO with the registration number: "CRD42019136318". Three electronic databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect and Web of Science); were searched in order to identify eligible studies. Observational and interventional studies were selected which had been published in the last 6 years, and analysed the association between maternal vitamin D concentrations during pregnancy and the development of preeclampsia and/or preterm birth. Data were extracted and presented in tables and figures. Fixed and random-effects meta-analyses were performed on the studies which provided enough sample data to calculate odds ratios. Results from both statistical methods were compared. Meta-analysis cut-off points for vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency were defined as <75nmol/L and <50nmol/L, respectively., Results: Fifty-five studies met the inclusion criteria. Fixed-effects meta-analysis of the interventional studies indicated that vitamin D supplementation acts as a prevention factor for preeclampsia and prematurity. Fixed-effects meta-analysis of observational studies concluded that vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency are associated with a higher risk of developing preeclampsia. However, prematurity and vitamin D were only associated when maternal vitamin D concentrations was <75 nmol/L. Random-effects meta-analysis found no significant association between vitamin D, preeclampsia and prematurity in either observational or interventional studies., Conclusion: Higher vitamin D concentrations during pregnancy could be associated with a decreased risk of preeclampsia and prematurity but statistical significance of associations depends on the study design used. Introduction: Sleep is a physiological state of self-regulation. The international classification of sleep disorders now includes as a new category those occurring during pregnancy. Regular physical activity is known to improve the quality of life, one aspect of which is sleep quality. During pregnancy, physical activity is decreased but should not be eliminated, as studies have reported a high correlation between sleep disorders and the absence of physical activity. Regular physical exercise during pregnancy, whether performed in water or out of it, provides greater control of gestational weight gain. Furthermore, the reduced weight gain during pregnancy, as a result of physical exercise, is associated with greater physical resistance to the demands of childbirth, combats the fatigue caused by pregnancy and reduces back pain. All of these outcomes tend to enhance sleep quality, among other beneficial effects., Objective: To determine whether, in pregnant women, there is an association between moderate-intensity physical activity in an aquatic environment and sleep quality., Material and Methods: A randomised clinical trial was conducted with a sample of 140 pregnant women aged 21-43 years, divided into two groups; Intervention Group and Control Group. The women were recruited in the twelfth week of gestation and took part in the [Study of] Water Exercise in Pregnancy programme from week 20 to week 37. Sleep quality was evaluated in the first and third trimesters of pregnancy, using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire., Results: The Mann-Whitney U test showed that the results obtained were statistically significant (p<0.05). Introduction: Regular physical activity is known to be very beneficial to health. While it is important at all stages of life, during pregnancy doubts may arise about the suitability of physical exercise, as well as the type of activity, its frequency, intensity and duration., Aims: To analyse major studies on the influence of physical activity on maternal and foetal parameters., Method: Systematic review of physical activity programmes for pregnant women and the results achieved, during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. 45 items were identified through an automated database search in PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar, carried out from October 2013 to March 2014. In selecting the items, the criteria applied included the usefulness and relevance of the subject matter and the credibility or experience of the research study authors. Introduction: There are different parameters to express the loss of weight in the treatment of overweight and obesity: absolute loss, percentage of loss, decrease in BMI, etc., Objective: To determine the magnitudes more used in the bibliography in order to establish criteria for uniformity in the expression of those results., Methods: a systematic review of the last five years has made at Proquest, CINHAL, Scopus, with descriptors "body fat distribution" and "diet" and "diet, reducing" and "weight loss". Articles published in English, French and Spanish were selected. Inclusion criteria were used: articles only dietary treatment of overweight in humans, and exclusion criteria: not dietary treatments, metabolic diseases, less than 50 patients and less than 8 weeks of treatment. Title, summary, methodology, results and discussion have been analysed by two researchers independently., Results and Discussion: 854 items found, only 61 met the criteria. These were grouped into 5 subgroups, as they expressed the weight loss (weight or fat loss in kg; weight and fat loss in kg; weight or fat loss in %; weight loss in % and fat loss in kg or vice versa; weight and far loss in%). The results show a lack of homogeneity in the loss, being the percentage the most used expression., Conclusions: There is great heterogeneity in the expression of results of the treatments for weight loss; the diet is one of the least used tools; the analysis of clinical trials of intervention reflects a high quality in subjects older than 18 years, highlighting the lack of this type of research lines in children under 18 years. Introduction: Intense physical exercise provoke muscle damage, that in sedentary people can increase cardiovascular risk. Phlebodium decumanum (PD) has shown to have immunomodulator effects in models of moderate intense physical activities in well conditioned groups. To evaluate the PD effects during eccentric exercise, as a model of muscle inflammation protocol, on a sedentary population with cardiovascular risk., Methods: This is an experimental, double-blind, multigroup randomized study. Experimental Group 1 (n = 17)received PD, 9 doses of 400 mg (total amount 3.6 g) every 8 hours during 3 days, and Control Group 2 (n = 16)received a placebo. All the subjects performed two treadmill ergoespirometry tests: first, a modified Bruce protocol to discard ischemic responses during exercise and to evaluate VO2max before the experimental phase;and second, with an eccentric protocol (14% descending ramp test) during 10 minutes in stable state at 70-80%VO2max, as experimental inflammatory protocol.We compared intra and inter groups to evaluate differences in the pre and post-test differences results on blood muscle damage variables., Results: The study shown statistically significant differences in all pre-post intra-groups results in muscle damage variables (CK, LDH and Myoglobin, but not in Cardiac Troponin), and in functional lower-limb test (SJand CMJ). The comparison of inter-group results shown less muscle damage and less functional lower-limb deterioration in Group 1 compared with Control group, with statistical significance in both cases. Differences in handgrip dynamometry were no statistically significant., Conclusions: The eccentric exercise protocol in that study has proven to be a good model to induce muscle and functional damage in sedentary people. Introduction: The accelerometer is shown as one of the most accurate techniques in recording and saving the amount and level of physical activity, by each person in a given period of time., Aims: This review aims to describe and analyze the main items that use this method to assess physical activity., Methods: The review articles were identified through the following specialized Internet browser: SCOPUS, PUBMED, GOOGLE SCHOLAR, those were selected for inclusion with a total of 56 items. The validity of the articles was given by the degree of evidence demonstrated by describing the recommendations and the applicability to our context. This review has considered studies evaluating physical activity through accelerometers., Results: The results show that this method can be used in ages 3 to 90 years. It can also be used in subjects with overweight/obesity, articulation injuries, Down syndrome (just children), autism and people with psychological problems. Salivary cortisol is a steroid hormone that is produced in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and secreted into saliva when persons are under stress. High levels of cortisol in saliva can be produced by many different factors, including obesity and certain psychological disorders. The articles selected for inclusion in this review were identified using Google Scholar and Medline, and this search obtained a total of 57 items. The validity of these studies was established according to the degree of evidence presented, by citations and by their applicability to the healthcare context in Spain. Specifically, this review takes into consideration studies of salivary cortisol and stress in children and adults, and those examining the relation between high levels of salivary cortisol and other disorders such as anxiety, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, social phobia or emotional deprivation. These studies show that salivary cortisol is a clear indicator of stress in both children and adults. High levels of this hormone in saliva are associated with the following main consequences: reduced immune function, affecting healing and thus prolonging recovery time; delayed growth in children; increased blood pressure and heart rate in both children and adults., (Copyright AULA MEDICA EDICIONES 2014. Recent studies show an alarming increase in levels of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents. The main objectives of this research were the following: (i) to carry out an anthropometric evaluation of the nutritional status and body composition of school children in the city and province of Granada; (ii) to compare the nutritional status of this population sample with national and international reference standards. The results obtained in this study showed that the general prevalence of overweight in both sexes was 22.03% and that 9.12% of the children were obese. Statistically significant differences were found between the variable, weight for age and sex (p < 0.05) and the variable, height for age and sex (p < 0.05). Regarding the body mass index, no statistically significant differences were found for the variable, sex (p = 0.182). This contrasted with the variable, age, which did show statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). As a conclusion, the results of our study highlighted the fact that these anthropometric values were much higher than national and international reference standards.

Human obesity is a disorder of multifactorial origin in which genetic and environmental factors are involved. To understand the mechanisms regulating energy intake and fat accumulation in the body, it is important to study the genetic alterations causing monogenic obesity. Most of the genes involved in monogenic obesity are associated with the leptin-melanocortin system; hence the importance of studying this system by analysing natural mutations in mice. Previous studies have described mutations in leptin and its receptor, proopiomelanocortin and prohormone convertase 1 associated with human obesity of monogenic origin. The aim of this study is to provide an updated review of the main characteristics and functioning of the leptin-melanocortin system, and its implications and potentialities in regulating food intake and body weight.

There is a general consensus that obesity is an eminently inflammatory process. This is justified by alterations observed in obese patients, which affect the secretion of certain cytokines such as ceruloplasmin, leptin, adiponectin, and interleukin-6 (IL-6), among others. In a parallel way, other research has also pointed out alterations in the composition of fatty acids in the erythrocyte membrane of overweight adults. The results obtained in our study confirm the existence of a significant correlation between the serum levels of some of the cytokines studied and the nutritional state of the sample studied. This means that for the population of children evaluated in our study, the serum concentrations of these biomolecules can be an important tool for the prediction of cardiovascular risk when they become adults. Furthermore significant differences were found regarding the composition of saturated fatty acids in the erythrocyte membrane.

Obesity and breast cancer are two very frequent pathologies in the world today, which have a strong impact on society. Various research studies have tried linking the two. For this purpose, data was collected from the medical histories of 524 women who had been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer from January 2009 to September 2010. The objectives of the study were to find and verify a possible association between the nutritional state of these women and their age when they were diagnosed with the tumour (p < 0.0001) as well as a statistically significant association (p < 0.0001) between the age of the first menstruation and the nutritional state of the patients. The results obtained showed that obesity was closely related to breast cancer.

Child growth constitutes a very sensitive indicator for the assessment of their health state. Any deviation from standard parameters could entail the appearance of any congenital or acquired disorder. Identifying with precision children's bone age during their growth period can be very useful in different situations. From a clinical point of view, it is a tool for diagnosis, which can offer the possibility of monitoring treatment effects in the case of standard deviations. This is why we need to study in depth current methods and carry out regular controls that insure their reliability. Currently, the most frequent radiological methods in our country for the determination of children's bone age were designed in the middle of the 20th century on the basis of X-rays performed on children from other countries. Thus, it would be interesting to find out whether social, economic, nutritional and health changes in Spain have influenced child growth and development in a significant way. Hence it would invalidate traditional methods for the determination of bone age. This study came from a main hypothesis: the child's environment significantly influences the concordance of bone age and chronological age. On the other hand, in order to determine the concordance of bone age and its different variables, an analitical study was also carried out, which includes: an univariant analysis, a bivariate analysis and a multivariate analysis, with the various tests they usually include. We found out that children showing a delayed bone age eat less bread than those showing an advanced bone age. It would be necessary to determine whether bone age and bone mass have inversely related values before considering it as concordant information. We could only determine that, currently, advanced bone maturation is usually associated with rapid growth. It is possible that children who eat more bread actually show an advanced bone age, a more rapid growth and a reduced bone mass. However, in this study, the outcomes must be considered just as preliminar, due to the size of the cross-section sample. Our research on the influence of nutrition should also include a further longitudinal study.
