Kajian Malaysia, published by Penerbit Universiti Sains Malaysia, is an interdisciplinary journal which provides a forum for a broad range of social sciences and humanities research. This research note presents a bibliometric review of the articles published in the journal Kajian Malaysia between 2011 and 2020. The purpose of this research note is to evaluate publication patterns and the topic model of articles published in Kajian Malaysia. The bibliographical material applied in this study was retrieved from the Scopus database. This study bibliometrically examines 192 documents published in Kajian Malaysia from 2011 to 2020 to rank the most productive countries, institutions, authors, keywords, influential articles and the topic model. This research note assists researchers with an understanding of the development of Kajian Malaysia, provides an important reference for Kajian Malaysia's future trajectory as well as provides an effective method of analysis for the future evaluation of journals. This study investigates the information needs of formal caregivers of child welfare institutions through the landscape of their roles and tasks. A case study approach using purposive sampling of three children welfare institutions was conducted with a total number of 10 participants. Data were collected through a series of interviews and two focus groups. Qualitative data were analysed using NVivo. Open coding and thematic coding were used to generate themes on the informational roles and needs of the caregivers. The caregivers perform their roles as guardian, counsellor, and administrator which involve informational roles as a monitor, disseminator and spokesperson of internal and external information for the institution. Each role requires specific information in order to fulfill their tasks such as information on the children's background, daily information required, past education, future education (including sex education) and career path, monitoring of former children, disciplinary action taken on misbehaving children, information related to sports and leisure activities, safety, health as well as children rewards. This paper is significant to this specific community (caregivers of child welfare institutions) in order to understand their information needs, based on the actual caregivers' roles and tasks. Highly cited papers serve as a proxy for excellence. In this paper, we identify Malaysia's highly-cited papers and explore the characteristics of these papers. The research question posed is "What characterizes Malaysian highly cited papers?" This study adopts the definition by Thomson Reuters Essential Science Indicator, i.e. the highly cited papers are papers that received enough citations to be placed in the top 1 percent of the academic field of each 22 subject areas based on a highly cited threshold for the field and publication year. As a small scientific nation, Malaysia has a rather limited number of papers being highly cited, and we observed nine characteristics of highly cited papers based on 708 datasets obtained from the Web of Science. Malaysian highly cited papers are largely represented by articles, but reviews have higher impact. Typically, these papers have a low self-cited index and they are published in the First Quartile of the science discipline publications. The papers are mainly the outcome of national funded research; involve multiple co-authorship and international collaboration; affiliated to Malaysian research universities and Malaysian authors often play a dominant role as first or reprint authors. Partnership with scientists from Iran, Australia and UK may increase markedly the possibility of a Malaysian paper becoming highly cited. This investigation has shown that these are the characteristics of Malaysian highly cited papers, but to what extent can these be used as indicators need further investigation and discussions among the scientific community. This paper reports a survey on citation behaviour of Malaysian researchers. It is part of a wider study gauging quality and trustworthiness in scholarly communication in the emerging digital environment. The survey questionnaire was distributed between 1 October 2014 and 31 January 2015. A total of 391 respondents, from four research areas (humanities, life sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences) completed the questionnaire. The finding indicated that motivations for citing were complex and multi-faceted, but in all four disciplines, researchers cite a work because they regard it as an authoritative and trustworthy source, which provides a context or building block to their own research. Although researchers have moved from a print-based system to a digital one, it has not significantly changed the way they decide what to trust. Peer reviewed journals are still the most influential. Open access journals will be cited if they have been peer reviewed. Citing on the basis of high altmetrics and other social judgements, such as mentions, likes, and use, was not prevalent. The rapid growth of research data and its influence on research practices has heightened global awareness of the significance of research data governance (RDG). However, there is a lack of literature explicitly outlining the implementation of RDG and the practices adopted by research performing organizations (RPOs). This study intends to bridge this gap by utilizing a three-round modified Delphi method, which involves a systematic solicitation and collection of feedback from a pool of experts comprising research data practitioners. This is accomplished through a series of carefully designed sequential surveys focused explicitly on RDG activities concerning tasks associated with governance roles, areas and decision domains within RPOs in Malaysia. The objective of this study is to develop consensus among research data practitioners on the importance of RDG activities. Statements were evaluated using a 5-point scale, and consensus was determined as an interquartile deviation (IQD) ≤ 0.5, a median ≥ 4, and a consensus level (CL) ≥ 85%. Analysis of the responses revealed a significant consensus among the experts on 106 out of 119 RDG task statements on various roles, nineteen areas, and eight decision domains deemed significant to the RDG implementation within RPOs. This study can potentially develop an RDG framework based on the consensus achieved. By providing an RDG framework that can be used as a set of best practices, this study can assist RPO leaders in considering implementing RDG and its efforts in their organizations. The purpose of this study was to analyse the publication and citation patterns in the Malaysian Journal of Distance Education (MJDE). This study covered articles published in the MJDE from 1999-2009. A bibliometric examination of 143 journal articles published in the MJDE was carried out. Furthermore, this study also compared the citation count of the MJDE with those of five similar journals focused on distance education/elearning. The approach used in this study was document analysis. Information is presented based on (1) the types of articles published, (2) the methodologies employed and (3) the topic area emphasised. Frequently published topics are reported as part of the findings in this study. This study revealed that conceptual or review articles are receiving the most citations. This result can be used to review current research trends and to explore potential research directions in e-learning and distance education. Background. The CYP2C19*2 allele may be associated with a reduced antiplatelet effect for clopidogrel. Here, we assessed whether CYP2C19*2 alleles correlate with clopidogrel responsiveness following the administration of clopidogrel in healthy Malaysian volunteers. Methods. Ninety volunteers were genotyped for CYP2C19*2 and CYP2C19*3 alleles. Forty-five of 90 volunteers were included in the clopidogrel response studies and triaged into three genotypes, namely, CYP2C19*1/*1 (n = 17) CYP2C19*1/*2 (n = 21) and CYP2C19*2/*2 (n = 17). All subjects received 300 mg of clopidogrel, and platelet reactivity was assessed after a four-hour loading utilizing the VerifyNow-P2Y12 assay. Platelet activity was reported using P2Y12 reaction units (PRUs), and nonresponder status was prespecified at PRU = 230. Results. Following clopidogrel intake, CYP2C19*2/*2 carriers had a significantly higher mean PRU compared to the CYP2C19*1/*2 and CYP2C19*1/*1 (291.0 ± 62.1 versus 232.5 ± 81.4 versus 147.4 ± 87.2 PRU, P < 0.0001) carriers. Almost half of the participants (46.7%) were found to be nonresponders (3 were CYP2C19*1/*1, 11 were CYP2C19*1/*2, and 7 were CYP2C19*2/*2). Conclusion. In healthy Malaysian volunteers, CYP2C19*2 allele was associated with a decrease in platelet responsiveness to clopidogrel. However, clopidogrel nonresponders can be found not only in the carriers of CYP2C19*2/*2, but also in the carriers of CYP2C19*1/*2 and CYP2C19*1/*1. The present paper demonstrated that genotype information does not correlate with clopidogrel response, and genotyping may represent a less robust approach compared to platelet activity testing in guiding clopidogrel therapy. One of the elements of an "electronic" university is the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) as the intermediary between the academic institution and students. Distance learners, as the main user of the LMS, are the focus of this study. Students' perceptions and attitudes while using the LMS for their learning activities will influence their learning behaviour. This study explores the distance learners' perceptions from the dimension of service quality and ease-of-use of the LMS. Survey questionnaires were answered by 451 students currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree distance learning programme. Based on a descriptive analysis (mean and standard deviations), it was found that students perceived the LMS provided by their academic institution as having a high level of service quality and ease-of-use. This study further discusses the importance and implication of the students' perception of their LMS portal, the limitations of this study and recommendations for future research. This study focused on the less explored small and medium enterprise (SME) innovativeness in an Asian context and attempts to probe the relationship of innovativeness practices and organizational performance of small- and medium-sized enterprises located in Malaysia. As a resource, innovativeness can help companies achieve the desired performance. This is in line with the Resource Based View theory that says appropriate resources will help the company achieve competitive advantages. Data were collected through both mail and web-based survey. 150 responses collected but only 92 accepted for analysis. Descriptive and regression analysis were conducted. The descriptive result shows that Malaysian SMEs to be above average on the innovativeness variables under study. As for the regression analysis on the innovativeness and its outcomes variables, strategic innovativeness has a significant link with company performances. However behavioral innovativeness has a weak link with company performances. Abstract: The industrial sector is the biggest electricity consumer in Malaysia. Electric motors account for more than 45% of the electricity consumption in the industrial sector in the country. Therefore, it is very important to implement energy efficiency standards for electric motors to reduce energy consumption growth in this sector. This paper attempts to calculate the cost efficiency analysis and emission reduction by implementing energy efficiency standards for electric motor in Malaysia. The energy efficiency standards are proposed based on the efficiency of electric motors from survey data. The study examines the potential energy, economical and environmental impacts of the implementation of energy efficiency standards for electric motors in three scenarios i.e. 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5% of standards efficiency improvement. Standards also enable consumers to reduce their electricity bill and contribute to a positive environmental impact. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Citizen science, the involvement of the public in scientific research, is a growing trend that presents both opportunities and challenges for academic libraries. This study delves into the realm of citizen science engagement within Malaysian academic libraries, offering a qualitative exploration of participation levels and difficulties confronted by academic librarians. Drawing upon in-depth interviews, our research unveils the multifaceted landscape of citizen science involvement in Malaysian academic libraries. Key findings underscore the potential benefits and hurdles academic libraries face in fostering citizen science initiatives. Results offer a comprehensive analysis of the present status and prospective development of citizen science initiatives in academic libraries in Malaysia. The study highlights the importance of addressing prevalent obstacles to optimize the advantages of involving the public in scientific research. It also contributes to the evolving field of library and information science by providing evidence of intricate dynamics and possible opportunities for citizen science within the academic library context. The research investigates the perceived roles and practices of teacher librarians in developing an Information Literate School Community (ILSC). The study employs a survey method, which was based on a set of an ILSC benchmarks developed by Henri (1995). A web-based questionnaire was e-mailed to 148 teacher librarians from Malaysian secondary schools in which their School Resource Centers (SRCs) received 4 and 5 stars rating for the year 2015 SRCs evaluation. The result showed that the teacher librarians rated 11 roles as being important, however they acknowledged that they have successful (very much) in executing only one task in their practice that is they "ensure that teachers are efficient library users". Teacher librarians evaluated the information services as very important and at the same time, they thoroughly practiced their roles as the stakeholder in terms of delivering and providing information services to the school community. The finding also revealed that the integration of ICT was recorded as having the highest mean gap between perceived roles and practices. This indicated that although teacher librarians had placed integrating ICT as an important role, there was still a lack of practice.
