A documentary review was carried out on the production and publication of research papers related to the study of the variable Artificial Intelligence and Radiology. The purpose of the bibliometric analysis proposed in this paper was to know the main characteristics of the volume of publications registered in Scopus database during the period 2017-2022 by Latin American institutions, achieving the identification of 48 publications. The information provided by said platform was organized by means of graphs and figures categorizing the information by Year of Publication, Country of Origin, Area of Knowledge and Type of Publication. Once these characteristics were described, a qualitative analysis was carried out in order to refer to the position of different authors in relation to the proposed topic. Among the main findings, it is found that Brazil, with 32 publications, was the Latin American country with the highest scientific production registered in the name of authors affiliated to institutions of that nation. The Area of Knowledge that made the greatest contribution to the construction of bibliographic material referring to the study was Medicine with 32 published documents, and the most used type of publication during the above-mentioned period was Conference Articles with 48% of the total scientific production. Introduction: The coronavirus pandemic has led to an explosion of hoaxes that mitigate the predisposition and speed of vaccination, especially in Latin America. This makes fact-checking journalism an option for healing the scientific conversation. Objectives: To analyze the characteristics and discursive axes of misinformation on COVID-19 vaccination in Latin America and the work of the fact-checkers. Methodology: Quantitative and qualitative research through content analysis of 113 misinformation extracted from LatamChequea Vacunas. Results: The countries that check the most are Argentina and Brazil, especially in the months of June, August and September. Fake content predominates, in text format, about adverse effects and application and efficacy, circulating on multiple social networks, with Facebook predominating. The activity of fact-checkers is not sufficient, as the rates of propagation are faster than those of checking. Also, they exhibit limitations such as the lack of identification of the disinforming subject, the contact with the sources involved and the deficiency of digital tools in the processes. Conclusion: Latin America has become a focus of misinformation on COVID-19 vaccination through ideological approaches promoted by denialist and conspiracy groups that undermine the credibility of the inoculation process. Objective/Context: This article explains why current events demand the exploration of histories of sexual violence, setting the four pieces that comprise this special issue in their broader historiographical and social context. Despite the important body of work that has been produced to date exploring issues related to gender and sexuality in this region during the nineteenth and twentieth century, sexual violence remains severely understudied. Methodology: Linking to protests against sexual and gender-based violence and harassment in Brazil and internationally since the mid-2010s, such as the global #MeToo campaign in 2017, the article reviews current scholarship on histories of sexual violence. Originality: This special issue represents a valuable collection of essays specifically devoted to the history of sexual violence in Latin America during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The article demonstrates why this is such a pressing issue for historians to consider in 2022 and contextualises the following contributions. Conclusions: There is an urgent need for further research into the histories of sexual violence across different Latin American countries in later modernity, especially since the issues highlighted by all four authors—particularly related to gender, racial, and class discrimination and stereotyping that harm victims—remain relevant to contemporary experiences. The Ford Foundation's involvement with the social sciences in Brazil coincided with the early years of the military regime that ruled the country between 1964 and 1985. The paper studies how changed political circumstances in the United States and abroad induced the Foundation to gradually abandon the technocratic approach that had governed its overseas programme since the 1950s, thus introducing a critical shift in its policies toward the developing world. A grant proposal to the University of Brasília, which had been subject to repeated military interventions since 1964, highlighted the ethical dilemmas raised by the goal of fostering policy-relevant research in an authoritarian political context. Relying on a pragmatic decision-making framework that converted ethical and ideological considerations into cost–benefit exercises, the Foundation finally moved away from the maxims of modernisation theory to embrace new strategic priorities like human rights, democracy and intellectual pluralism. This article is a contribution to labour studies in Latin America. Its objective was to analyse and systematize the impact of the pandemic on scientific production on the world of work, taking as reference the articles generated between January 2020 and April 2021. For this, we have used the Scope Review methodology that has yielded 34 articles dedicated to the subject. The main findings indicate the emergence of new thematic lines, complementary to those indicated by Enrique de la Garza on New Labour Studies (NLS). A high level of scientific production is reported from Brazil and Argentina. In short, we argue that the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic not only deepened the structural weaknesses expressed in more poverty and inequality, but also reconfigured the scientific agenda of labour studies in the region. This study seeks to reflect on the life and work of Vânia Bambirra, one of the greatest interpreters in Brazil. Combining vast theoretical production with active political militancy, Bambirra was part of the so-called Marxist Theory of Dependence (TMD), together with Ruy Mauro Marini and Theotônio dos Santos. Articulating the Brazilian reality with the Latin American one, she brought together typical qualities of an organic intellectual, such as: debate on burning issues of her time, depth in the approach to themes, political activity with a socialist bias and a taste for fruitful polemics. All this was possible in an environment dominated, hegemonically, by men. And it is recognizing Bambirra’s female representation that I aim to analyze her role in TMD, based on two specific topics: a) her interpretation of dependent capitalist development, through dependency typologies; b) its interpretation of the bourgeois revolution, through the concept of world monopoly integration. This article studies strategies, players, conditions and debates on digital rights during the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. The theoretical approach comes from the studies of communication as a fundamental human right and communication's policies. The methodological approach proposes a comparative theoretical-normative and socio-political analysis. The lines of debate were the digital rights of access, privacy and freedom of expression. State policies varied depending on the political orientation of their authorities, pre-existing public policies, the specific policies adopted against COVID-19, and the competing forces of the players involved in each country. The companies developed regressive strategies from which, in certain cases, they had to reverse, also implemented some progressive but exceptional measures; while civil society and international organizations promoted progressive and long-term solutions. The objective of this article is to propose, through bibliographic theoretical research, a reflection about the relevance of Latin American philosophy within interdisciplinary projects in a way that promotes a cultural and historical formation that embraces the diversity of Latin America, especially with a critical look about our literature, cultural and historical processes. In a research focused on the teaching of philosophy in the school space based on the analysis of the National Curricular Parameters of Brazil and the didactic materials provided by the federal government. Subsequently, a brief history will be made about the concepts of education and interdisciplinarity and finally will be addressed about philosophy classes in basic education. The proposal is to present a way to insert the Latin American philosophy in the schools in order to complement the curricula in accordance with the interdisciplinarity required by the National Curricular Parameters. Homicide statistics are a widely accepted metric of security and democracy. This article argues for a focus on how bodies come or do not come to be counted – of what happens before states enumerate. The experience of São Paulo relates that how many people die and how many do not is connected to the governance of an organised crime group known as the PCC. The punishment practices of the PCC and groups like it throughout Latin America reshape the lived paradigm of governance over life and death, albeit in concealed ways. Statistics are produced by and are productive of a de jure state, different from the state de facto. The acceptance of state-made homicide figures, whether for analysis, visualisation or political claims, is consequential for the future of lived security and social science knowledge production. The article deals with a theoretical-empirical and critical in nature analysis of the new regionalism (NR) approaches that dominate the perspective of regional development throughout the last two decades. The capacity of such approaches to act as effective instruments is questioned not only in the analysis of the restrictions over the peripheral localities, but also in the formulation of public policies that make feasible a reversion of such positioning in the Latin American scenario. To support this critical hypothesis, we make use of a case study centered in Sarandi, a peripheral locality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The intention is to show the contributions and, afterwards, the restrictions those emerging NR elements present when offering a consistent solution to the peripheral environments when confronting the challenge of their insertion in the chains of global values (CVG). We maintain that the NR restrictions result, essentially, from the use of an analytical scheme that impedes considering the importance of the "interweaving multiscalarity" of the current capitalistic restructuring process in which, indeed, the socio-economical dynamics and the institutional/state ones that take place in national spaces play a fundamental role, both in the elaboration of precise and contextualizing diagnostics of the local and meso-regional realities, and in the exploration of strategies capable of reverting the NR weaknesses and promoting an integrated development that includes the peripheral regions. The objective of the article is to explore some identity narratives about Latin America constructed upon the Latin-American moves of migrants living in Barcelona, Spain, and Porto Alegre, Brazil. We seek to understand how plural modes of living the Latin-American identity by migrants allow the observation of some characteristics in the social uses of the internet. In the empirical investigation, from an ethnographic perspective, we noticed that part of the Latin-American living related to the uses of the internet occurs by cultural production and consumption. The diversity of websites with reference to national identities and to Latin America can also be understood as a manifestation of the meaning of being Latin-American which is experienced as a transnational living. By accounting systems we understand a group of elements, intrinsic to the system itself, that make it possible to explain and characterise the national accountings of a country, serving as the basis for the acknowledgement of the international accounting methods that exist nowadays. Different studies have been done on this subject matter, that have served as the basis for explaining the international similarities and differences in the systems of the countries around the world, primiraly in the developed ones. The aim of this article is to identify, in several international studies, the classification of the accounting systems that include, in the surveyed sample, Argentina, Brazil and Chile, so as to determine the positions of these countries in the world ranking. Objective: To analyze the level of knowledge and use, and the characteristics of use, of care coordination mechanisms in public healthcare networks of six Latin America countries., Method: Cross-sectional study based on a survey using the COORDENA® questionnaire with primary and secondary care doctors (348 doctors/country) of public healthcare networks in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay (May-October 2015). Analyzed variables: degree of knowledge and use of information coordination (referral/reply letter, discharge report, phone, e-mail) and of clinical management coordination (shared clinical guidelines, joint meetings) mechanisms. Descriptive analyses were conducted., Results: Knowledge of clinical information coordination mechanisms was high in both care levels and analyzed networks as was the use of referral/reply letter. There was greater variability in the use of discharge reports (from 40.0% in Brazil to 79.4% in Mexico) and, except for Argentina, a low reception reported by primary care doctors stands out (12.3% in Colombia and 55.1% in Uruguay). In contrast, knowledge of clinical management coordination mechanisms was limited, especially among secondary care doctors. It is noteworthy, however, that adherence to clinical guidelines was high (from 83.1% in Mexico to 96.8% in Brazil), while participation in joint meetings varied widely (from 23.7% in Chile to 76.2% in Brazil). The difficulties reported in the use of the mechanisms are related to structural and organizational factors., Conclusions: The limited knowledge and use of coordination mechanisms shows insufficient diffusion and implementation.
