Purpose: The objective of this article is to analyze the relationship between absorptive capacity, entrepreneurial orientation, and performance within Brazilian federal state-owned companies. Design/methodology/approach: Primary data were obtained using survey research. Secondary data were obtained using the Federal State-owned Companies Bulletin and the website State-owned Companies Overview. Tested and validated scales were selected to reflect Absorptive Capacity (ACAP), Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO), and Organizational Performance (OP) variables applied to a sample of 119 managers and advisors of federal state-owned companies. Structural Equation Modeling techniques were applied to identify the statistical significance of the direct, indirect, and total effects. The final measurement and structural model presented convergent and discriminant validity with acceptable adjustment indexes. Findings: ACAP was found to be directly related to the ability to identify, recognize, transform, and especially implement new knowledge. EO is related to the institution's ability to take risks, be proactive, and innovate. Those are fundamental processes for fulfilling the mission of state-owned companies, for their survival, and for improving the quality of public services provided to society. These findings differ from studies carried out in private companies since the ACAP-exploration dimension in private businesses displays a relevant relationship between the factors composing EO, a feature not observed here. Originality/value: The paper's main contribution is to confirm the influence of ACAP on EO and EO on OP, considering the environment of Brazilian federal state-owned companies. Such results expand the scarce academic studies on absorptive capacity, entrepreneurial orientation, and performance in the public area, in addition to offering perspectives of specific training direction to expand the competencies of public managers. EMPLOYER-supported education ,CORPORATE sustainability ,SUSTAINABLE development ,RESEARCH personnel ,UNDERGRADUATE programs - Abstract
This paper presents an innovative experience involving students and professors from diverse backgrounds and regions that was designed to integrate corporate sustainability (CS) knowledge into undergraduate programs. An action research approach was adopted, with the course running over one semester. The course involved 146 students with diverse academic backgrounds from universities across Brazil along with eight professors from Brazil, Chile, and South Africa. The proposed approach provides actionable insights into the integration of sustainability concepts in the higher educational setting, thereby contributing to the development of a more environmentally and socially conscious generation of professionals. The learning outcomes are discussed in the light of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Agenda, particularly SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy), SDG 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure), and SDG 13 (climate action). In addition, it is important to highlight that the dissemination of the course's key features can be useful for universities, professors, and researchers engaged in training future professionals capable of addressing real-world problems of innovation and sustainability. By employing an action research methodology and fostering collaboration among students and professors with diverse academic backgrounds and from different countries, including Brazil, Chile, and South Africa, this paper presents a multiregional and interdisciplinary perspective that sets it apart from conventional practices. The emphasis on providing actionable insights and its potential applicability for universities, professors, and researchers involved in training future professionals further underscore its distinctive contribution to education for sustainable development. BUSINESS skills ,SOFT skills ,INDUSTRIAL engineering ,ENGINEERING students ,COLLEGE curriculum - Abstract
Purpose: In today's highly competitive global business environment, there is a growing demand for professionals who possess well-developed soft skills. Such abilities include flexibility, effective communication and other skills. Soft skills are personal attributes and qualities that are more closely related to the emotional side of human beings. Individuals must cultivate and hone soft skills during their undergraduate studies. These skills, also known as interpersonal or non-technical skills, are essential to complement hard skills and pave the way for a thriving career trajectory. Soft skills are developed over the course of one's career and are indispensable in establishing a strong, professional presence in the corporate or academic realm. The field of engineering is no exception in this regard, and the business approach during the engineering course is of significant relevance. By acquiring soft skills, engineering graduates will become competitive and adaptable professionals capable of handling the current and future challenges of the job market. The purpose of this study is to investigate the soft skills that students perceive as being better developed during their business classrooms in the engineering course and identify areas for improvement in the business education process. Design/methodology/approach: The research method consisted in four different phases from variables identification to statistical analyses. Then, as part of this approach a structured questionnaire was administered at the end of the engineering course, where students rated their perception of the degree of development of each of the soft skills covered in the course on a scale of zero to ten. The collected data were analysed using multivariate analysis techniques, including factorial analysis. Findings: The results of the study demonstrate that the set of skills acquired by individuals in business classrooms pursuing a degree in industrial engineering is in high demand by potential employers. Such skills are deemed essential for the successful operation of businesses in modern-day industries. The findings of this research validate the significant role that industrial engineering students play in fulfilling the requirements of the job market and pave the way to meaningful insights on how to approach this topic during the business education process in engineering courses. Practical implications: The findings bring about significant insights for national educational councils and ministries, universities and educational stakeholders in the process of updating, rethinking and implementing new curricula criteria in higher education, particularly in the Latin American context. Originality/value: This paper enriches the literature by assessing the development of soft skills of engineering students in the Latin American context. The research reinforces the importance of developing soft skills aligned with those required for the context of current and future labour markets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

English as a lingua franca (ELF) is a dynamic, integrative and plurilinguistic mode of communication that encompasses various resources to enhance meaning, understanding, and knowledge among speakers. As a multilingual practice, it involves collaboration, negotiation, sensitivity, and adaptation. Researchers advocate for teacher training programs that raise ELF awareness, promote language fluidity, and utilize corpora materials to examine informal interactions in ELF. This paper discusses pre-service teachers’ reactions to pedagogical activities incorporating ELF corpus interactions in an English teaching program in Brazil. Using audio samples from the BraCES ELF corpus, a lesson plan was designed to promote discussion and raise ELF awareness. Students contemplated incorporating listening activities in ELT rooted in authentic English interactions in Brazil and discussed intelligibility and the potential impact on language learning. Findings reveal that responses questioned the native speaker’s role, underscored the fluidity of English in today’s global context, and pointed to the need for a rethinking of students’ perspectives on learning English. This study highlights the importance of integrating ELF concepts into teacher education programs to foster critical thinking and promote inclusive and dynamic language teaching practices. GREY relational analysis ,EMERGING markets ,SUSTAINABLE design ,SUSTAINABILITY ,ENVIRONMENTAL compliance ,TOPSIS method - Abstract
Purpose: Considering the high impacts caused by manufacturers on sustainability, this research aims to analyse how Brazilian manufacturing companies deal with sustainability issues. To do this, sustainability parameters are analysed to verify possible improvement opportunities. Design/methodology/approach: This research uses Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and grey relational analysis (GRA) to analyse data from a survey with Brazilian professionals regarding aspects of sustainability in Brazilian manufacturers. The average score levels and the ranking of these aspects are evaluated. Findings: Through the analysis performed, it was possible to verify that manufacturers in Brazil still have a long path to travel in the search for sustainability. Comparatively, it was observed that practices related to local communities received the lowest scores, on average. In contrast, on average, practices related to productivity and efficiency, occupational accidents and diseases, and compliance with environmental legislation received the highest scores. Practical implications: The results presented in this paper show that there are several improvement opportunities to be sought by Brazilian manufacturing companies regarding sustainability aspects. Particular attention should be given to local community practices. Besides companies, policymakers can also use this analysis to guide their future actions, encouraging manufacturing companies to better support the local community. Researchers can use the instrument of analysis (TOPSIS and GRA) to analyse other realities and compare them with the findings presented. Originality/value: The analysis of Brazilian manufacturing companies' reality regarding sustainability practices and considering a model based on Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance (IBGC) is novel in the literature. The use of TOPSIS and GRA, as well as comparing their findings, generated interesting insights for companies, policymakers and researchers. The analysis presented shows the need for more significant concern for local communities and can be used to support further debates and action plans to minimise this gap. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Over the past few decades, pension funds have emerged as major players in global financial markets as the reserves they manage have grown steadily. In this context, trustees are confronted with acute dilemmas regarding how best to generate investment returns to beneficiaries. This involves crucial decisions regarding the diversification of investment portfolios as well as decisions on whether, when, and to whom to outsource investment functions and tasks. The literature in economic geography has frequently treated outsourcing decisions as taken by the asset owners based on criteria such as costs of coordination, availability of information, governance structure, and internal expertise. Focusing on the outsourcing of property investment by Brazil's largest pension funds and drawing on a relational approach, this article investigates the actions taken by the real estate investment trust (REIT) industry to attract and retain pension fund money into their investment vehicles. It is claimed that REIT managers have acted on three dimensions to capture pension fund money: (1) by influencing the regulatory framework affecting pension funds, (2) by building networks of trust with pension fund managers and trustees, (3) by adapting internal procedures to the expectations and needs of institutional investors. Putting the spotlight on the evolving, power-laden relationships connecting key actors in finance, we were able to demonstrate how the pooling of money by financial institutions is politically and socially constructed and how it changes the geography of money flows. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been an ally of women wishing to engage in entrepreneurial activity, especially of the mompreneurs. Within this context, this study aims to investigate the antecedents and outcomes of the use of ICTs by mompreneurs. The data were collected in Brazil through an online questionnaire and were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results indicated that perceived usefulness, social influence, and trust are antecedent factors of the use of ICTs by these women. Moreover, the use of ICTs has a positive impact on the perception of mompreneurs regarding the financial performance of their ventures in relation to competitors. The results also show that more than 97% of the mompreneurs use smartphones and WhatsApp to manage their business, suggesting that social media and mobile devices have assumed a predominant role in female ventures, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, period in which the data were collected. The use of chatbots, or conversational assistants, is increasingly present in several areas of activity. In the governmental sphere, the use of these solutions provides the improvement of the provision of public services, as well as the reduction of their costs. However, the diversity of subjects under the responsibility of the same public body presents itself as a challenge to the development of a chatbot. This is because the more subjects to be dealt with, the more likely the chatbot is ambiguous in their responses. To solve this problem, this work proposes the use of text classification techniques, to enable a tree-based architecture of conversational assistants. In this architecture, a general knowledge chatbot can identify the subject of the user’s message and forward it to specific chatbots. The feasibility of the proposal was evaluated from the performance of experiments, which compared three implementation strategies for text classification: multiclass classifier, binaries classifiers and one-class classifier. The results of the experiments showed a better performance, in relation to the F1-score and accuracy metrics, of the multiclass and binary classifiers. However, it was concluded that the use of one-class classifiers greater benefits to the hierarchical chatbots, because it allows independence between the models created, which results in greater scalability and simplicity of the proposed architecture. This paper offers a novel, easy to execute, mindfulness‐based solution to the waiting time problem at healthcare facilities in particular, with the potential to enhance consumers' experience within a waiting time scenario. Findings of four studies—one in‐class experiment with undergraduates, one field study among adults in a doctor's office, one online experiment in the US, and one online experiment in Brazil—revealed that variations on a 5‐min mindfulness‐based intervention led to more positive perceptions and greater loyalty intentions towards the service. The findings confirm that offering mindfulness interventions to consumers while they are waiting may help reduce dissatisfaction and other negative outcomes that longer than expected waiting times might evoke. This paper aims to present aspects related to corporate governance, organisational resilience and sustainable practices developed by Brazilian companies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The methodological strategy included documentary research to identify sustainability reports published by companies listed on the Ibovespa index, which were examined through the content analysis technique. The results allowed light to be shed on opportunities for improvement concerning sustainability and corporate governance. Regarding organisational resilience, risk management is central for the development of sustainability practices by organisations. The support to society related to the COVID-19 pandemic was evidenced mainly through the donation of financial resources, equipment and hospital supplies. Practices related to reducing energy consumption and minimising waste generation were those most associated with environmental aspects. The actions identified were mapped according to their relations with the SDGs. Managers can benefit from the information presented in this study to enhance organisational sustainability and resilience, while researchers can use it as a starting point for future studies. To facilitate the development of leadership competencies in a multidisciplinary group of 18 emerging bone experts from 6 European Countries and Brazil, to face future scenarios in the evolving field of fragility fractures, and to support secondary fracture prevention and improve patient outcomes. Changes brought by the COVID-19 pandemic have further highlighted this need. A 2.5-year community of practice (CoP) programme was established with two senior bone experts acting as mentors. The content was adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The education impact of the programme was assessed using an ethics-approved mixed-method design consisting of multiple sources of qualitative and quantitative data collected longitudinally. Quantitative data were analysed descriptively. Qualitative data underwent a thematic analysis. After participating in the programme, participants reported increased interprofessional collaboration and communication skills, better understanding of health economics and negotiation, application of adult learning principles to their work setting, development of competencies to critically appraise guidelines, enhanced abilities to facilitate behaviour change in others, and improved confidence leading their team through crisis situations. Although time was required for some physicians to get accustomed to the CoP concept and develop trust with other members, it was described as a beneficial real-world learning experience. An educational real-world CoP programme was effective in enhancing leadership competencies among future leaders in the bone field to improve care of fragility fracture patients. The results presented could guide the development of other CoPs in fragility fracture care as leadership competencies are increasingly required in that field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the literature on academic entrepreneurship, the creation of academic spin-offs is one of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) channels most studied. The use of different KTT channels and the creation of spin-offs can be a source of opportunity for the overflow of knowledge and innovation with wealth creation. Although with a broad spectrum, research on academic entrepreneurship still has gaps to be explored in the literature. In Brazil, there is a lack of studies that explain more specifically how the professor at the public university transfers knowledge and technology and undertakes entrepreneurial activities. The main motivations of the doctoral research presented in this article are the lack of studies concerning the trajectory of successful entrepreneurial professors and the exploration of the use of different KTT channels in academic entrepreneurship for wealth creation. The general goal of the research is to identify the strategies used during the innovation trajectory of entrepreneurial professors in Information Technology (IT), who converted knowledge and scientific assets into wealth. To meet this goal, an adapted retrospective roadmapping approach was used to collect data, to map and to analyze the life trajectory of innovation of six professors from three Brazilian Public Universities in the IT area. The results made it possible to understand how professors innovated, became entrepreneurs and transferred knowledge and technology. They mobilized 136 strategies using different channels (e.g., Entrepreneurs Training, Collaborative Research and Development Projects, Technology Residency, Academic Spin-offs Creation, Academic Consulting). The professors' strategies resulted in a value distribution, with considerable wealth (tangible and intangible). The results showed that although there is no pattern in the professors' trajectories of innovation and entrepreneurship, there are several strategies common to the cases. One of them was to train qualified personnel at the university, based on intensive research in knowledge seeking to solve real market problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Unfortunately, it is also one of the productive segments with the highest incidence of accidents, which overshadows its merits as a driver of economic growth and job creation. The damage to workers' health caused by accidents at work results from the presence of work environment risk factors. Therefore, this study aims to manage these risk factors for the civil construction industry. The work is original with respect to building a model to support risk management in civil construction for a specific and relevant context. It is ensured by presenting an unprecedented approach to the sector that incorporates information not considered by classic generic approaches. This research, thereby, seeks to build a model to support the risk management of accidents in the workplace in the prefabricated concrete construction industry. It is a case study with a constructivist approach and an exploratory and descriptive character, incorporating the Multicriteria Methodology for Decision Aiding-Constructivist (MCDA-C). The main findings include (i) identifying the strategic objectives: occupational safety policy, work environment, machines and equipment, condition of materials, procedures and methods, and skills, which were operationalized via 58 criteria; (ii) examining the scales of the criteria such as the performance profile of the current situation and the goal, highlighting the vulnerabilities and potentials; (iii) proposing improvement actions for the vulnerabilities, thus supporting risk management in the organization. Among the contributions, managers and professionals in the field contribute to the possibility of using an instrument customized to the context and legitimate to their concerns and values stands out. Furthermore, the contributions of researchers include the challenge of improving their generic models with the knowledge of personalized models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper identifies the relationship between the nationality of shareholding nationality, controllership and organizations characteristics than 426 companies publicly listed in Brazil, Bolsa e Balcão (B3). The organization structure is characterized for the standardize structure through the similar actions with the objective for guide the company to achieve its long-term purposes set as goals. The organizational characteristics are single and needed to be in consistence with the mission, vision and values of the companies. The research was characterized as exploratory, descriptive and quantitative, using the documental research technique and relying on a checklist as a data collection instrument. The operationalization of the data took place by descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicated that regardless of the nationality of the company's shareholding control, its business behavior is similar, its cultures, values and characteristics are not related to the organizational characteristics adopted, identifying isomorphic behaviors. This perspective of isomorphic behaviors believes the companies have tendencies for to copy practices and customs of others, making them similar, independent of their symbols, myths and beliefs. Although many works talk about the individual characteristics of companies, this study identifies the isomorphic behavior among all publicly traded companies listed on the Brazilian stock exchange. INDUSTRY 4.0 ,LABOR market ,VALUE chains ,HIERARCHICAL clustering (Cluster analysis) - Abstract
• I4.0 impacts on Brazilian companies' sustainability were investigated. • The 12 impacts analysed can be observed in the Brazilian business context. • Changes in the job market and in occupational tasks are highlighted. • Value chain integration and the presence of innovative business will be greater. This paper aims to analyse the impacts of Industry 4.0 on corporate sustainability, considering the Brazilian context. From a literature review, 12 impacts were identified and used to structure a questionnaire. This questionnaire was applied in a survey with experienced Brazilian researchers. The data was analysed using Hierarchical Cluster Analysis, Descriptive Statistics and TOPSIS, which allowed for impact ordering. It was evidenced that all the presented impacts will be evident in the Brazilian context in a ten-year horizon. Of these impacts, six stand out: 1) the reduction of job offers for manual and repetitive activities and the emergence of new, high value-added professions; 2) the emergence of innovative business; 3) the reduction of work accidents due to the expanded use of robots in dangerous tasks for humans; 4) problems with the employees' qualification pace in the required modernisation changes; 5) the integration of all value chain activities, allowing for a better analysis of environmental, social and economic impacts; and 6) improvements in physical and cognitive ergonomics due to the use of sensors. These findings can contribute to the expansion of the debates related to the theme and can be used as a base for defining future industrial policies in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This paper aims to critically analyze the engineering education focused on sustainability in supply chain management, in courses offered by Brazilian higher education institutions. Design/methodology/approach: Topics related to sustainable supply chain management were listed from the literature and used as a framework to gather professors' opinions on how well these topics are covered in engineering courses offered in Brazil. Data analysis was performed via frequency analysis and comparative ordering using the Fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution technique. Findings: It was possible to evidence that most of the topics are superficially presented within other subjects and that there are few associated practical activities that enable greater learning. Comparatively, issues related to ISO standards (related to quality and environmental management systems) and compliance with environmental laws, regulations and standards were highlighted. Additionally, it was possible to verify that there is a need for further study on issues related to energy efficiency, worker training and corporate governance. Originality/value: No similar study was found in the literature. The findings presented in this paper can contribute to the improvement of engineering education in Brazil and other countries. Society is increasingly concerned about environmental, social and economic issues. According to the World Tourism Organization, over the past six decades, tourism has experienced a continuous expansion and diversification to become one of the fastest-growing economic sectors in the world. Furthermore, studies affirm the complexity of the tourism sector and the fact that sustainable development depends on various topics that are not correctly identified by managers and policymakers. For these reasons, this paper aims to reflect on the effects of tourism and to propose alternatives that can be sustainably managed. In terms of results, knowledge gaps have been identified and, through a case analysis in Brazil, the forgotten effects of tourism activity that can have an impact on sustainable development have been exposed. Also, an algorithm has been presented to manage uncertainty and facilitate decision-making. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are quantifiable aspects (widely used by national and global enterprises) that help in the process of monitoring and managing goals and organizational plans. This study intends to empirically explore the influence of non-financial KPIs to generate organizational resilience. In-depth case studies were conducted in two enterprises embedded in the metal-mechanical sector in Brazil. As a result, 29 KPIs (20 of them were empirically identified) and 13 Elements of Resilience (EoR) were discussed. Due to different organizational strategies from each company, each case presented a key KPI that was predominant in creating organizational resilience. Company T focused on the stock level (SLE), whilst Company S on Supplier Quality Score (SQS). This study contributes by exploring the relation between non-financial KPIs and EoR, thus highlighting KPIs to help managers to deal with unpredictable disruptive situations to make assertive decisions and help their organizations become competitive and sustainable. Objective: To analyze the relationship between cynicism and the expectation that cheating will be necessary in the academic and professional life of lato sensu graduate students in accounting. Method: Electronic and on-site questionnaires were used, with the participation of 92 students from two higher education institutions in the South of Brazil. The questionnaire was divided into three parts: (i) sociodemographic information of the participant; (ii) questions to measure the construct of cynicism, measured in two ways and called CIN1 and CIN2; and (iii) questions about the behavior and expectation that cheating will be necessary in the participants' academic and professional life. Results: The initial tests indicated that the participants' level of cynicism is similar when analyzed by gender, area in which they work and academic background. The binary logistic regression models indicated that there is a positive relationship between cynicism and the expectation that cheating will be necessary, in academic and in professional life. Contribution: This study contributes to the discussion, which is still scarce, on the trait of cynicism in the Brazilian accounting context; it provides evidence that a positive relationship exists between cynicism in academic life, but also in professional life; and it alerts to individual cynicism for the adoption of policies and codes of conduct in order to reduce cheating as a result of cynicism. SOCIAL responsibility of business ,PERSONNEL management ,INDUSTRIAL management ,SOCIAL pressure ,SOCIAL structure - Abstract
Purpose: In the past, simply fulfilling economic performance alone was critical to ensuring the success of companies and their shareholders, but this traditional perspective is not compatible with society's current demands, as there is increasing social pressure on organizations to become more sustainable and reduce impacts on the environment, promoting sustainable results in their business processes. In this context, the specialized literature states that human resources management (HRM) is considered a central aspect for building sustainable organizations, in particular, the area of green human resources management (GHRM). Thus, this study analyzes the relationship between GHRM and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Brazilian companies. Company's age, size, ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications are the control variables. Design/methodology/approach: The authors adopted a quantitative approach in conducting the survey. Four waves of email were sent to HR and CSR managers from 853 Brazilian companies from the metallurgical, automotive and chemical industries. In total, 79 questionnaires were fully answered, higher than the minimum sample calculated by the G*Power 3.1 software, which corresponds to a return rate of 9.26%. For the analysis of the results, the partial least squares method was used. Findings: This research identifies that GHRM practices, in fact, positively influence CSR practices. The findings evidence that practices of performance evaluation, teamwork and recruitment and selection are the most important for a better CSR performance. The research results indicate that the "ISO 9001 certification" control variable also has a positive and significant effect on CSR and that the size of the company, the age of the company and the ISO 14001 certification, in the analyzed sample, were not relevant (as control variables) for CSR. Originality/value: Current literature highlights the gap between GHRM and CSR. This relationship is not explored in Brazil. The study uses a new theoretical model, and it fills the gap identified in the literature. This paper brings important theoretical and managerial contributions. It is the first in the literature to show, in an empirical way, the positive relationship between GHRM and CSR, contributing in an original way to the state of the art of the GHRM and CSR theme. In addition, this research adds empirical evidence on GHRM and CSR in Latin America/South America/Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Software maintenance is the task of modifying a running product previously delivered to the client, in order to correct defects, improve performance or adapt it to the environment. This task is a crucial activity for enterprises. Without it, existing systems would become rapidly out-of-date and inefficient. The purpose of this paper is to present a software maintenance approach used in small and medium-sized business (SMB) organizations in Brazil. Currently, these organizations represent 95.5% of the software companies in the country. The approach presented here indicates how SMB IT companies have improved their software maintenance processes. Multiple case studies were performed to validate this approach. The outcomes showed that strategies associated with managing users' knowledge and development/maintenance teams are relevant to increase the maintenance process effectiveness. This approach involves three aspects: users' knowledge management, maintenance team knowledge and the management and maintenance process. This improvement includes reducing time and also minimizing the number of tickets. The response time for tickets resolution to the end user has been reduced. In addition, IT organizations have minimized the effects associated with both staff and client turnovers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Innovation is a key instrument for companies to improve their efficiency and establish a long-term competitive advantage. In this context, Science Parks (SPs) are effective environments to promote new business based on technology and innovation. At the regional level, SPs are important for economic, social, and cultural development. As such, they promote new business and jobs, partnerships with universities and research centres, and attract new technology-based companies (NTBFs), which derive benefits from the spillovers that are generated. However, different regional realities and the varied motivations of the stakeholders explain the diversity among SPs. Accordingly, SPs arise and are governed through the cooperation of different types of stakeholders, such as academic, governmental, entrepreneurial and other agents and entities. Thus, they result from different interests and incentives that converge to their creation. A relevant approach to understand the specific engagement of different stakeholders in the creation of SPs and their respective roles is to study the context and circumstances of their formation. Starting from this point, the objective of this paper is to propose a SPs implementation framework based on cases from two countries -- Brazil and Portugal. An investigation was laid down on 4 SPs in Brazil and 4 in Portugal through a comparative analysis methodology. Data collection occurred upon technical visits and, in complementarity, there was a documental approach on government websites, networks and associations and the SPs themselves. The results show that the main prerequisites for the formation of SPs are: a favourable environment with institutional stability, available knowledge, development business space and motivations that converge to a common purpose. As a theoretical contribution, the outcome of the research introduces the SPs implementation framework, emphasizing the main stakeholders and the fundamental prerequisites for their formation and development. As practical implications, the results can guide the design of a favourable institutional environment for the creation of SPs, enhancing the potential to produce good results such as innovation for the involved stakeholders and society, particularly at the level of companies. Health is one of the goals for the sustainable development at the global level, but emerging economies remain off-track. The Responsible research and innovation concept consider stakeholders’ inclusion a way to guarantee a positive impact. This study aims to know how the inclusion of multiple stakeholders in e-health occurs. We used in-depth interview and a survey with 26 companies in Brazil. We identified that Brazilian companies that develop products or services for the health sector behave in a similar way as companies in developed countries, especially regarding the inclusion of external stakeholders from the initial stages. Brazilian companies face the difficulties inherent in developing countries, related to heavy bureaucracy, and institutional inefficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SUPPLY chains ,INFORMATION sharing - Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate how resilience at different nodes in the supply chain influences overall supply chain resilience (SCRES) during an extreme weather event. Design/methodology/approach: Based on 41 in-depth interviews, this qualitative study examines two Brazilian agri-food supply chains (AFSC). The interviews explored the impacts, preparedness, response and adaptation strategies adopted by farmers, processors and manufacturers during Brazil's extreme drought of 2014–2015. Findings: SCRES does not depend on all organizations in the supply chain but rather on the company able to reconfigure the resources to control for the disruption. In a supply chain with low interdependence among players, individual firm resilience elements might be preferable to interorganizational ones. Research limitations/implications: This study is based on the context of AFSCs with low interdependence among players and during the experience of a climatic event. The results might not be generalizable to other sectors and phenomena. Practical implications: Firms must evaluate their positions in supply chains and their interfirm relationships to determine which resilience strategy to invest in and rely on. Moreover, to leverage resilience at the supply chain level, firms must intensify information sharing and improve proactive resilience strategies upstream as well as downstream in the supply chain. Originality/value: This study presents a broader perspective of resilience by comparing resilience elements at both the node and supply chain levels and by discussing their interactions and trade-offs. This study analyses the coopetition strategy adopted by wineries in Southern Brazil with the support of local formal institutions to promote their internationalization. A multiple case study with 21 interviews with wineries and formal institutions of the industry was carried out. We used the discourse analysis based on the following categories: industry characterization, national and international markets, internationalization process, and institutional environment. The interpretations regarding the Integrated Sectorial Project (ISP) Wines of Brasil are shown. Despite its relevance, not all those involved have joined the project, because it promotes the internationalization unevenly through the competitive advantage while enhancing the differences between the wineries. The main contributions are expanding the knowledge about coopetition by understanding the role of formal institutions and promoting the international competitiveness of firms in the wine industry.
