Complex oxides La 0. 9 7 Ba 0. 0 3 MnO3, La 0. 7 3 Ba 0. 2 7 MnO3 and La 0. 5 Ba 0. 5 MnO3 were synthesized and their structural properties were studied. The structural investigation of the samples is done by incorporating X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) technique at room temperature. The Rietveld method was successfully used for the analysis of the obtained diffraction spectra. It was determined that these compounds have a perovskite structure. Partial substitutions La→Ba do not disturb the ideal perovskite structure and the cubic crystal structure with the space group Pm-3m is preserved. Crystallographic parameters, lattice parameters and interatomic distances were determined for each compound. As a result of SEM studies, it was determined that the size of crystallites in LaxBa 1 − x MnO3 solid solutions ranged from 2 to 10 μ m. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this research work, a real case of failed ASTM A860 WPHY 65 long elbow pipe coated with inorganic zinc ethyl silicate primer is collected from a treatment facility to investigate the root causes of its failure, which was reported after approximately 28 months of use. The failure was investigated using visual observations, metallurgical analysis using optical emission spectroscopy, mechanical testing, X‐ray diffraction of corrosion product, chemical analysis of sewage and corrosion rate test of the elbow using a three‐electrode potential technique, fractographic analysis using scanning electron microscope along with computational analysis to confirm the results. Through the testing, it was observed that severe depletion in the strength can be attributed to erosion–corrosion caused by various impurities present in the sewage, leading to the generation of corrosion pits and turbulent eddies and stresses generated due to sudden changes in fluid flow direction along with gases present in sewage reacting with a base metal. Abstract\nHighlightsThe calcium ferrite nanoparticles were made by the sol–gel process. X-ray diffraction, a scanning electron microscope, and UV–vis spectroscopy were used to analyze the material. There is an orthorhombic phase in the space group Pnma. There were four techniques used to calculate the average crystallite size. Using ImageJ software, the particles were aggregated and their size was ascertained. Using energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, the composition of the material was ascertained. 2.29 eV was determined to be the band gap. Vibrating test magnetometer (VSM) provided an explanation for the materials’ magnetic property. Here, ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method (USP) was utilized to produce pure and silver doped copper oxide nanostructures on glass substrates. Thereafter, several characterization techniques were conducted on the grown samples to delve into their morphological, structural, electrochemical, and optical aspects. The mentioned analyses were carried out by performing x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, galvostatic charge-discharge, cyclic voltammetry, and UV–visible spectroscopy measurements. Thus, the impact of silver impurity doping on the relevant aspects of host material were recorded as well as the features of unspoiled copper oxide films. Accordingly, the samples, as indicated by X-ray diffraction results, possessed (002) preferential plane orientation of copper oxide material along with the crystallite sizes ranging from 52.52 nm to 75.02 nm due to the imperfections caused by the silver doping. The scanning electron microscope images exhibited that the silver doping did not form significant modifications in the host material morphology where nanowire-like structures observed. The presence of the suggested materials in the films was verified by the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Also, the UV–visible spectroscopy measurements detected that optical absorbance edge and bandgap energy values red shifted as a result of the impurity doping. The electrochemical supercapacitors performances of the silver doped copper oxide nanostructured thin films were inspected by using the GCD, EIS, and CV. The silver doped copper oxide films demonstrated a specific capacitance value of 66 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g in 1 M KOH electrolyte. From Nyquist plot, Rs, Rcor, Rpo, Ccor and Cc were obtained as 2.327 × 103 Ω.cm2, 43.63 × 103 Ω.cm2, 4.580 × 103 Ω.cm2, 111.5 × 10-6 S*s^a. cm-2 and 101.1 × 10-6 S*s^a. cm-2, respectively. To promote the resource utilization of steel slag and improve the production process of steel slag in steelmaking plants, this research studied the characteristics of three different processed steel slags from four steelmaking plants. The physical and mechanical characteristics and volume stability of steel slags were analyzed through density, water absorption, and expansion tests. The main mineral phases, morphological characteristics, and thermal stability of the original steel slag and the steel slag after the expansion test are analyzed with X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TG) tests. The results show that the composition of steel slag produced by different processes is similar. The main active substances of other processed steel slags are dicalcium silicate (C2S), tricalcium silicate (C3S), CaO, and MgO. After the expansion test, the main chemical products of steel slag are CaCO3, MgCO3, and calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H). Noticeable mineral crystals appeared on the surface of the steel slag after the expansion test, presenting tetrahedral or cigar-like protrusions. The drum slag had the highest density and water stability. The drum slag had the lowest porosity and the densest microstructure surface, compared with steel slags that other methods produce. In this work, the gas sensing properties of ZnS/Porous silicon heterostructures have been investigated. . Zinc sulfide(ZnS) with high gas sensing performance is successfully synthesized over the Porous silicon substrate by the spray pyrolysis method. The properties of the as-prepared samples were characterized X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform spectrum (FTIR) and optical properties. The results reveal that the properties of the ZnS/Porous silicon heterostructures enhanced when the when the ZnS concentration is increased. The performance ZnS/Porous silicon as a gas-sensing show that the maximum sensitivity is found to be 5.11 at ZnS concentration of 0.5 M and etching time of 15 min compared to the other sensitivities. Solvent evaporation was used to create a novel organic Schiff-based optical crystal of Benzimidazolium gallate (BGA). The size of unit cells was determined using X-ray diffraction analysis. Fourier transform infra-red spectrum analysis revealed chemical bonds' vibrational behavior and their functional groups' existence. Optical transparency and optical bandgap (3.66 eV) were observed by the UV–visible-near infrared spectral analysis. Differential scanning calorimetry curves show that decomposition is exhibited at 215 °C. Dielectric experiments on the BGA crystal were performed at ambient temperature. High-resolution scanning electron microscope analysis shows the crystal's nature and surface shape. Background: Researchers, prompted by the toxicity and side effects associated with cisplatin, are exploring alternative approaches for developing transition metal-based anticancer agents. Employing a green biochemical approach, we transformed Nickel pyridine dicarboxylic acid compounds into the nanoscale using the aqueous extract of Macrotyloma uniflorum (horse gram). Results: Characterization of the biosynthesized nanoparticles involved electronic and IR spectroscopy. A scanning electron microscope revealed a predominant spherical shape for most Nickel nanoparticles (Ni-NPs), with XRD patterns indicating particle sizes ranging from approximately 30–150 nm. The nanoparticles were evaluated for their free radical scavenging efficiency and in vitro anti-malignant properties against HeLa and A549 cancer cell lines. Numerical optimization of the DPPH and MTT assays was conducted using response surface methodology (RSM), focusing on the effects of 3,4-pyridine dicarboxylic acid (ML1), 2,4-pyridine dicarboxylic acid (ML2), nickel nanoparticles concentration, and temperature. In this investigation, the incorporation of Horse Gram seed extract (Macrotyloma uniflorum) has unveiled its abundance in phenolic and flavonoid compounds, widely acknowledged for their robust antioxidant activity in the existing literature. Conclusion: The present study highlights the potential for refining the bio-toxicity and biochemical attributes of Ni-NPs to pave the way for a new generation of versatile anticancer agents with clinically established efficacy. Notably, the anticipated data closely corresponds with experimental outcomes, reinforcing the trustworthiness and validity of the RSM model for examining anticancer and antioxidant properties in this context. The current study demonstrates the effect of Ni-substitution on the structural, dielectric and ferroelectric properties of Ba0.90Sr0.10Ti1-xNixO3 (where x = 0.000, 0.005, 0.015 and 0.025) ceramics, synthesized by solid-state reaction approach. A pure perovskite phase with tetragonal structure has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed change in microstructure. The dielectric behavior of the prepared ceramics was investigated as a function of temperature (30–150°C) at different frequencies. The results indicate that there is an increase in dielectric constant (ϵRT) and low dielectric loss (tanδRT) were obtained at room temperature by substitution of Ni2+ ions in BST ceramics, offering a promising material for capacitor applications at room temperature. Room temperature P-E loops were recorded at different applied electric fields and typical hysteresis loops were obtained. The economic spray pyrolysis process were used to prepare Zinc oxide thin films. Ahigh - quality thin film is obtained by optimizing factors that include concentration, flow rate, nozzle to substrate distance. The temperature is differed between 350°C to 450°C. The structural and optical qualities were studied through physical investigation. According to XRD, the films have a hexagonal crystal structure. A scanning electron microscope reveals the material's uniform deposition &adhesion across a glass substrate. A direct band gap of about 2.4 to 2.6 eV was obtained for different temperatures. The aim of the present work was to evaluate six commercially available abutment screws by characterising roughness parameters, microstructure and mechanical properties. Six abutment screws from each implant system, were used. The surface roughness parameters (S a , S q , S sk , S ku , S pk , S k and S vk) were identified by an optical interferometric profiler. Microstructural observations and crystallographic analysis were performed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) device for elemental analysis and an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), respectively. The Martens Hardness (HM), Indentation Modulus (E IT), elastic index (η IT) and Vickers hardness (HV) of all specimens were determined by instrumented indentation testing (IIT). The results were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey multiple-comparison tests (a=0.05). EDX and XRD showed the abutment screws to be mixed α- and β-phase titanium alloys. Microstructural analysis revealed a fine homogeneous microstructure without porosity, consisting of fine dispersoid rods of β-phase embedded in a continuous α-phase matrix. Statistically significant differences were found among the mechanical properies and surface roughness parameters apart from S q , S pk and S vk. Despite numerous studies focused on the hydrothermal (HT) synthesis of fly ash zeolites (FAZs), this method still has many limitations, the main of which is the low yield of zeolites. Hydrothermally synthesized zeolites are typically multiphase and exhibit low purity, which limits their applicability. Pure-phase zeolites have been primarily prepared from filtrates after alkaline mineralization of fly ashes, not directly in suspension. In addition, the published methodologies have not been tested in a wider set of samples, and thus their reproducibility is not confirmed. The aim of the study is to propose a reproducible methodology that overcomes the mentioned limitations. The influence of the Si/Al ratio (1.3:1–1:2), the type and concentration of the activator (2/4 M NaOH/KOH/LiOH), the reagent (30% LiCl), the duration (24–168 h), and the temperature (50–180 °C) of the synthesis phases were studied. The sequence of the synthesis phases was also optimized, depending on the type of heat transfer. The fly ashes were analyzed by wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WD XRF), flame atomic absorption spectrometry (F-AAS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The energy intensity of the synthesis was reduced through the application of unique microwave digestion technology. Both microwave and combined (microwave and convection) syntheses were conducted. FAZs were identified and quantified by XRD analysis. This study presents a three-stage (TS) hydrothermal synthesis of pure-phase sodalite in suspension. Sodalite (>99 wt.%) was prepared from nine fly ashes under the following conditions: I. microwave phase: 120 °C, 150 min, solid-to-liquid ratio (S/L) 1:5, Si/Al ratio 1:1.5, and 4 M NaOH; II. convection phase: 120 °C, 24 h, S/L 1:40, and the addition of 30 mL of 30% LiCl; and III. crystallization: 70 °C for 24 h. This work aims to study the case of the stained glass window at the Royal Palace in Edfena, Egypt. The research also aims to identify the chemical composition and diagnose the manifestations of damage on the stained glass window. Therefore, the examination and analytical study were conducted using several different techniques, including AutoCAD, digital and stereo microscopies, scanning electron microscope - X-ray energy dispersion, X-ray diffraction, and microbiological examination. The microscopic study revealed that the surface of the painted glass suffers from the presence of layers of damaged products, which obscure the decorations and lead to opacity. Light holes spread across the layers of different paints with varying sizes, and pits appear as a result of corrosion. Using EDX, the element responsible for the color in the painted glass layer was determined, as well as the composition of the lead came. XRD was used to identify the crystalline compounds in the painted glass layer and the putty composition. In the end, an appropriate treatment plan was drawn up for the condition of the lead-stained glass window to preserve it from loss and damage due to its archaeological and artistic value. Co1–xZnxFe2O4 (x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) cobalt zinc nanoferrites (CZF) nanoparticles were created in this study utilizing the auto-ignition procedure with citric acid as an oxidizing agent. Following thermogravimetric–differential thermal analysis, the prepared Co1–xZnxFe2O4 powder was sintered at 1000°C for 4 h. The single-phase cubic structure of Co-Zn ferrite nanoparticles was described by X-ray diffraction studies, and its outcomes show particle size fluctuation. Fourier transform infrared spectra show that phase formation occurred. Due to the ferrite samples, scanning electron microscope images demonstrate the aggregation of spherical grains. Peaks of the corresponding components Co, Zn, Fe and O were seen in the energy dispersive X-ray spectra, indicating the production of cobalt zinc ferrite. By employing a vibrating sample magnetometer to evaluate the magnetic characteristics of the ferrite output, soft ferrite material was found to be present. The range 58.55–74.46 nm is discovered to be the average crystallite size of the ferrite nanoparticles produced by field emission-scanning electron microscope. Transmission electron microscopy elaborates clustering of grains. With increase in Zn content in cobalt zinc ferrite nanoparticles, hysteresis loops were shown to be modified for magnetic characteristics, which include Ms, Mr, Hc and Mr/Ms. CZF nanoferrites can be employed in microwave devices because of their dielectric properties, i.e., the tangent loss is lower at high frequencies. The main aim of this work is to comparatively reveal the effect of fibre type, length and content on compressive strength and microstructure of structural geopolymer concrete (GPC) produced under constant mixture and curing parameters in order to address the significant gap in present literature. Firstly, GPCs with different NaOH concentrations (i.e., 6, 9, 12 and 15 M) and activator solution/binder (a/b) ratios (i.e., 0.45 and 0.55) were produced in ambient curing condition, and optimum production parameters were determined based on the preliminary evaluations. Then, glass and polypropylene fibres in 6‐mm length (GS6 and PP6) and polyamide and polypropylene fibres in 12‐mm length (PY12 and PP12) were included in GPCs at ratio of 0.4%, 0.8% and 1.2% (by volume). Compressive strength, apparent porosity, bulk density, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis of GPC samples were carried out comparatively. The inclusion of GS6 fibre enhanced the compressive strength thanks to fibre surface being covered by geopolymer gel and the strong adhesion between GS fibre and geopolymer matrix. SEM images of fibre reinforced GPC (FRGPC) also confirmed the experimental findings, which were attributed to improvement in compressive strength. Regardless of the fibre type, the maximum compressive value strength was obtained from GPC specimens with 0.4% fibre and then decreased. Higher fibre inclusions led to poor compaction, workability issues and inhomogeneous fibre dispersions. Coating, as a corrosion protection measure, not only reduces the costs of repairs due to corrosion damage but also saves lives from injuries brought by corroded facilities or equipment. The corrosion behavior of quartz sand-modified enamel (QSME)-coated carbon steel plates was evaluated in a 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution for a period of 30 days using open circuit potential, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and linear polarization resistance. The enamel coating was made by firing enamel slurry to the steel plate at a temperature of around 840 °C. The effect of the size and content of quartz sand on the corrosion resistance is studied, considering four different contents (5 wt.%, 10 wt.%, 20 wt.%, and 30 wt.%) and two different particle sizes (0.38–0.83 mm and 0.83–1.70 mm). The microstructure and phase composition of QSME were characterized with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. SEM images show that the thickness of QSME coating ranges from 430 to 1424 µm depending on the size of quartz sand, and the quartz sand is completely embedded in the enamel matrix. The QSME coating increases the corrosion resistance of uncoated steel plates by approximately 1000 times. The corrosion performance of QSME-coated plates decreases with an increase in quartz sand content, while the effect of the quartz sand size on the corrosion behavior is not significant. The synergetic effect of nonthermal plasma and ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) on the degradation efficiency of methylene blue was investigated. First, the ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized via the hydrothermal route; the spherical nanoparticles had diameters of 30–50 nm, as observed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and had hexagonal ZnO lattice structures, which was confirmed by both X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The X-ray-photoemission spectroscopy confirmed the ZnO composition and the presence of oxygen vacancies; meanwhile, the optical band gap energy was 3.17 eV. The optical emission of plasma radiation confirmed the presence of various active plasma species. Second, it was found that the maximum degradation efficiency of MB after 60 min was 85% in plasma alone and increased to 95% when combined with 0.2 gL−1 ZnO; but this decreased to 75% when ZnO loading increased to 0.4 gL−1. These results clearly show that combining plasma with the right amount of ZnO is a promising advanced oxidation technique as it provides an additional source of hydroxyl radicals and, at the same time, a source of photons that can excite the ZnO catalyst. Sulphur is rapidly being recognized as the fourth key nutrient for plants after nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. It functions in several critical metabolic and physiological processes, such as Chlorophyll synthesis, Protein synthesis, Activation of enzymes, Stress tolerance and Seed production. In this background, an attempt was made to synthesize nano sulphur fertilizers for slow release using the reverse microemulsion (water-in-oil microemulsion) technique. Cyclohexane was used as oil phase. Tween-80 and ethanol were used as surfactant and co-surfactant, respectively. Hydrochloric acid and sodium polysulfide solution acted as an aqueous phase. This technique resulted in the successful synthesis of nano sulphur fertilizer. The sulphur nano fertilizer was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The XRD pattern revealed the orthorhombic nature of nano sulphur and the lattice face-centred. The FTIR spectra at 1406 cm-1 confirmed the sulphur vibrations. The microemulsion method yielded stable, uniform, spherical nano sulphur particles with dimensions ranging from 25 to 47 nm. The thermal disintegration between 117°C to 122°C in TGA graph was attributed to the sublimation of sulphur in orthorhombic crystalline form, indicating the successful synthesis of nano sulphur. A laboratory study on nano sulphur fertilizer and conventional sulphur fertilizer was studied with a Percolator reaction system to evaluate the slow release of sulphur from both fertilizers at ambient temperature. Percolation reactor experiment indicated that sulphate release from nano sulphur was longer for 42 days than gypsum amended soil which exhausted within 35 days. Natural fibers derived from cellulose and ligno-celluloses materials have many advantages, such as being renewable, low density, inexhaustible, and cheap rather than synthetic fibers. Researchers and scientists are searching for a new fiber source that can be processed environmentally sustainable. The aim is to produce an organic and Eco-friendly product. The present investigation aims to extract and characterize ligno-cellulosic fiber from the seedpod of Wrightia tinctoria (WT) and Cebia pentandra (CP) plants. The extraction of WT fibers (WTFs) and CP fibers (CPFs) was carried out using the hand-stripping method. The structural and functional Characterization of WTFs and CPFs were determined using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction studies (XRD), and the thermal behavior of fibers determined by using Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA). The results indicated that WTFs composed of 75% cellulose, 14% lignin, and 0.55% wax content were, as the CPFs were composed of 38% cellulose, 15% lignin, and wax content of 2.34%. The SEM micrograph confirms that both fibers were hollow structures with thin cell walls and luminous because of the wax content presence on the surface of the fiber. The crystallinity percentage of WTFs and CPFs was calculated from XRD studies and is valued at 62% and 52%. Thermo gravimetric analysis revealed that WTFs and CPFs were thermally stable up to 460°C and 350°C. • The cesium (Cs) ions are irradiated on vanadium di oxide (VO 2) and di vanadium tetra oxide (V 2 O 4). • The structural, optical and electrical properties of VO2 and V 2 O 4 have been studied before and after Cs ion irradiation. • The Cs ion irradiation reduced the crystallinity of vanadium oxide with increased conductivity. • The feasibility of Cs ion irradiated in solar cell application has been explored. Vanadium di-oxide (VO 2) and vanadium tetra oxide (V 2 O 4) powders are exposed to cesium (Cs) ion irradiation using Pelletron accelerator. The energy of the Cs ions ranges from 0.2 keV to 5 keV. Mass spectroscopic data from the accelerator is plotted for various energy ranges. Un-irradiated samples and Cs ion irradiated samples are characterized by using x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Raman spectroscopy and four-point probe method. XRD analysis showed improved VO 2 crystallinity after ion irradiation. The V 2 O 4 sample shows amorphous behavior after ion irradiation. Dislocation density and tolerance are calculated to explore structure distortion after ion irradiation. Raman spectroscopy reveals vibrational and rotational modes of bonding with oxygen and vanadium. SEM results explain the reduction in agglomeration after Cs ion irradiation. The resistivity of un-irradiated and irradiated (VO 2 and V 2 O 4) samples is calculated by four-point probe method. A novel Bi-Mg-O composite nano-catalyst was prepared by using Bi(NO3)3 and nano-MgO. Prepared catalyst was characterized using x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) technique which confirms its nano-crystalline nature and composition. The synthesized novel catalyst Bi-Mg-O was found to be competent catalyst for the synthesis of spirooxindole derivatives by multicomponent reaction of isatin, dimedone, malononitrile and 4H-pyran derivatives by reaction of dimedone, aryl aldehydes and malononitrile using ethanol as solvent at room temperature. The nanocatalyst proved to be recyclable as it is recycled and recovered for three runs without notable loss in catalytic activity. All synthesized derivatives were obtained in exemplary yields. The effectiveness of low-cost biosorbent Blepharispermum hirtum for the removal of Zn(II) ions from aqueous solution was examined. To assess the impact of solution pH and temperature on biosorption capability, batch biosorption tests were conducted. The optimum conditions for biosorption were discovered at pH 6.0, 0.5 g/L of biomass, and 15 min of equilibrium duration. The biosorption data was well represented by Langmuir model with correlation coefficient of 0.9981 followed by Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin--Radushkevich isotherms with the correlation coefficients of 0.9834, 0.9812 and 0.8790 respectively at a solution temperature of 303 K. According to the Langmuir isotherm model, the maximal adsorption capacities (qmax) for Zn(II) was 27.66 mg/g. Chloride ions play an important role in the corrosion of bronze through their active reactivity to copper alloys. The corrosion behavior of bronze alloys in NaCl solution was investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and electrochemical tests, with a special emphasis on the corrosion resistance of the α and δ phases in Cu-20 wt%Sn bronze alloys. The experimental results show that the corrosion current density of Cu-20 wt%Sn bronze alloys increases from 1.1 × 10−7 A/cm2 to 2.7 × 10−6 A/cm2 with the increase in the chloride ion concentration from 10−3 mol/L to 1 mol/L. After a soaking duration of 30 days, the matrix corrosion depth reaches 50 μm. The α phase of the alloys is easily corroded in NaCl solution, while the δ phase with high Sn content has strong corrosion resistance. Purpose: Paper aims to determinate caking paper manuscript cause through studying of the manuscript components, bio-deterioration and physio-chemical deterioration factor. It will facilitate manuscripts and paper conservators to understand paper blocking and caking phenomenon. Design/methodology/approach: The manuscript condition has been diagnosed by focusing on adhesion and fossilization regions. To achieve this, some methods of analysis and examination were used, such as visual examination, digital microscopy and scanning electron microscope were used to studying surface changes. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared microscopy were used to determinate of cellulose crystallinity, ink composition and identify the binding medium. Findings: The results revealed the use of cotton pulp, and calcium carbonate was among the fillers that were used to improve the properties of paper. The crystallization of cellulose was lower in the first and last papers than the papers located in the heart of the manuscript. The most important reasons that led to the papers caking was the presence of fungi A. niger, Cladosporium sp, Chaetomium sp, by secreting some enzymes in combination with some other factors such as difference variation in temperature and moisture. Originality/value: All deterioration factors participate with each other until rule the damage circle of the papers because one factor alone cannot stick the papers. In order to enhance storage capacity and prevent electrical short circuits in electrochemical storage devices, it is essential and challenging to design and build Lithium ion batteries with flexible solid polymer electrolyte possessing strong ionic conductivity. This study details the use of solution-cast technique to create nano composite doped lithium solid polymer electrolytes (n-LSPEs), from polymer complex of poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP), polyethylene oxide (PEO), and Lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate (LiCF3SO3), with nano ZrO2 (n-ZrO2). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was utilised to describe the ionic conductivity values in presence of alternating fields. The ionic conductivity of n-LSPEs are enhanced nearly four times (1.54 × 10─1 mS/cm to 5.996 × 10─1 mS/cm) due to addition of n-ZrO2. By incorporating chronoamperometry (CA) and cyclic voltammetry (CV), we were able to analyse the transference number, ionic strength, and the accumulation of charge carriers in optimized n-LSPE membrane. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of n-LSPE membranes reveal a structure that is consistent with interconnecting pores between the polymer complex and the nano filler. The stable monoclinic phase of n-ZrO2 interaction with polymer segmental motion was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). By examining Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), we performed a quick analysis of the complexation of functional group investigations, bond length and force constant calculations, interaction of functional groups of n-LSPE films. In order to investigate the influence of SiC on the composition and structure of mixed slag (blast-furnace slag: steel slag = 1:9), the chemical composition, equilibrium-phase composition, and microscopic morphological characteristics and elemental distribution in the microscopic region of the SiC-reagent-tempered slag samples were analyzed by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), FactSage7.1 thermodynamic analysis software, scanning electron microscope, and energy spectrum analyzer. It was found that the main physical phases of the tempered slag samples were magnesia–silica–calcite (Ca3Mg(SiO4)2, C3MS2), calcium–aluminum yellow feldspar (Ca2Al2SiO7, C2AS), C2S, and iron alloy. Theoretical calculations suggest that the experimental temperature should be higher than 1500 °C to facilitate the combination of P5+ with Fe and Mn in the liquid phase to form an alloy, reduce the P5+ content in the tempered slag, and create conditions for the self-powdering of the conditioned slag. The doping of the SiC reagent can increase the liquid phase line temperature and reduce the binary basicity in the liquid phase; the liquid phase line temperatures were 1150 °C, 1200 °C, and 1300 °C and the basicities in the liquid phase were 4.68, 4.13, and 3.10 for the doping amounts of 3%, 4%, and 5% of the SiC reagent, respectively. The mixed slag doped with 4% SiC reagent achieves self-powdering and reduction of ferroalloys during the air-cooling and cooling processes, realizing the purpose of "resource utilization" of blast-furnace slag and steel slag. The contact surface corrosion of friction high-strength bolt (FHSB) joints was analyzed to examine the characteristics of corrosion products and influence factors in steel bridges. Samples were selected from the Dongying Shengli Yellow River Bridge, which has been in service for 33 years. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were utilized to analyze the microscopic morphology and chemical composition of the corroded surface of the samples. The study identifies that construction quality issues accelerate corrosion of the contact surface and that the contact surface of the aluminum spraying layer transforms from rugged and dense to smooth and porous as corrosion increases. The findings also suggest that the friction coefficient of the FHSB connection node initially decreases and then increases as the corroded surface changes. Corrosion products contained S, Cl, Mn, Si, FeS, and their oxides, indicating that atmospheric, industrial, and Yellow River soil environments contribute to joint corrosion. The study proposes sandblasting and coating the corroded contact surface and deck steel plate with inorganic zinc-rich paint to prevent media penetration and delay substrate corrosion. Adopting ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) as the deck structure is also recommended to reduce top plate tensile stress, deck cracking, and media invasion. Zinc oxide (ZnO) and Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized using a soft chemical route, and their properties were characterized using various techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution scanning electron microscope (HRSEM), energy dispersive X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (EDS), and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). The ZnO ( Ag x Zn 1 − x O (where x = 0. 0 1 , 0.02 and 0.03) exhibited a hexagonal Wurtzite structure, and Ag doping resulted in the formation of nanorods with decreased grain size. The synthesized materials were found to have antimicrobial properties against human pathogenic bacteria and fungi. MTT assays showed that Ag-doped ZnO had higher cytotoxicity against human embryonic kidney cancer cell lines (HEK 293) compared to pure ZnO. The samples also demonstrated active activity towards the catalyst for the selective oxidation of alcohols. Finally, a statistical model was developed for antibacterial studies using ANOVA, which was consistent with the experimental findings. These results demonstrate the potential of Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles for use in biomedical and catalytic applications. ZnO nanorods with silver incorporated were successfully synthesized using soft chemical methods using different molar concentrations of silver. The biological and catalytic properties of the synthesized materials can be effectively improved by doping Ag into ZnO. In construction Industries, superior fresh and hardened concrete qualities play a significant role in which self-compacting concrete (SCC) is widely introduced. On the other hand, considering the depletion of river sand, manufactured sand (M-sand), created by crushing rock deposits, has been recognized as viable. However, still, there is a lack of understanding of the strength aspect of SCC with M-sand replacement along with admixtures such as Alccofine and silica fume. Therefore, experimental investigations are conducted in SCC by partially and completely replacing river sand with M-sand. Furthermore, to reduce the negative impacts of cement, such as energy consumption and environmental pollution, 10% and 12% pozzolanic materials were added, such as silica fumes and alccofine. Moreover, to examine the impacts on rheological and mechanical properties, EFNARC guidelines were used and measured the compressive strength, impact resistance, bond strength, and flexural and splitting tensile strengths. The test results indicate that incorporating the M-sand as a full replacement in the mix increased the compressive strength by 6.82% for M50 grades of concrete compared to reference SCC after a 28-day curing period. The current research work attempted to investigate the strontium oxide nanoparticles (SrONPs) synthesized from the Lantana camara leaf extract. The bio-synthesized strontium nanoparticles were characterized by a UV-Visible spectrometer, Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectra (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscope, X-Ray diffraction, and Dynamic Light Scattering. The biomolecules in the extraction of plant leaves behaved as good reducing and capping agents. The XRD peaks are indexed to 13.020, 22.240, 25.940, 31.310, 34.000, and 40.910, and the corresponding planes are (101), (112), (202), (213), (310), and (312) representing cubic structure for SrNPs. The strontium nanoparticles are unevenly globular in shape, and chaos, and exhibited cluster and partially even surfaces shown from the Scanning Electron Microscope. This study deals with WC-12Co coatings deposited by cold spraying on 13Cr4Ni steel hydraulic turbine blades. The coatings were deposited under different pressure conditions such as 25, 30, 40 bar at 800 °C, and 50 bar at 900 °C. The microstructural evolution under different pressure conditions and the effect of temperature variation were investigated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and x-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). In addition, the microhardness analysis of the coatings showed that the WC-12Co coating deposited at 40 bar 800 °C had the highest (270 HV) hardness which was a good attribute for anti-wear applications in hydraulic turbine blades according to most tribological theories. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nano-composites are known for the harmonious effect of flexibility, biocompatibility, formability, toughness, higher fatigue life, and piezoelectric properties. Nevertheless, little has been reported on the comparison of mechanical blending (MB) and chemical-assisted mechanical blending (CAMB) of PVDF-BaTiO3-graphene (Gr) nano-composites. This paper reports the comparison of mechanical, thermal, morphological, and 4D properties of PVDF-BaTiO3-Gr nano-composites prepared by MB and CAMB for piezoelectric-based pressure sensors and nanogenerators. In the first stage, feedstock filaments of PVDF-BaTiO3-Gr nano-composites got prepared by MB and CAMB. After this, the effect of blending process parameters on mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties got established on 3D-printed tensile, flexural, and dynamic mechanical analysis samples at optimized settings of fused deposition modeling setup (in the second stage). The results have been supported by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis. The DSC analysis suggested that the PVDF-BaTiO3-Gr nano-composite prepared by MB is thermally more stable than CAMB, as the MB composites absorbed more heat (31.09 J/g) in comparison with the CAMB composite (26.59 J/g). On the other hand, the piezoelectric coefficient (D33) of the dielectric constant of CAMB-based samples was 30.2pC/N, 55, respectively, better than MB (20.1pC/N, 18). Polycrystalline ceramic samples with compositional formula Ba(1-x)PbxTi(1-x) ZrxO3 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.075, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20) were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction route (SSR). All the samples were sintered at 1300°C for 4 h in closed high-density alumina crucibles with the lead-rich environment. Sintered samples were subjected to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and scanning electron microscope (SEM) for structural analysis. XRD analysis confirmed tetragonal to orthorhombic phase transition for samples with x ≥ 0.10. The relative permittivity and loss were measured as a function of temperature at 1, 10, 100 and 1000 kHz frequencies. The value of relative permittivity at room temperature was found to be increased with an increase in x. PE hysteresis loops were recorded for all the samples (at 30°C and 50 Hz). Nanosized metal oxide dispersed polymer nanocomposites constitute a new class of polymeric materials finds enhanced properties and applications. The present work aims to prepare MgO dispersed polyaniline nanocomposite (MgO/PANI) and also its properties. Insitu chemical oxidative polymerisation method with ammonium per sulphate as an oxidising agent is used for the preparation of PANI/MgO nanocomposites. The reaction was catalysed by hydrochloric acid and also different weight percentage of MgO is maintained with same PANI for different nanocomposites. The solid-state reaction technique was used to prepare the sample 0.5(BiLayFe1–yO3)–0.5(PbZrO3) at different concentrations y = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20. Structural parameters such as percent crystallinity, average crystallite size, dislocation density and microstrain were calculated from the X-ray diffraction data at room temperature. The scanning electron microscope micrographs reveal the spherical, densely packed natures of the samples with low porosity. The energy density with efficiency of the prepared samples was calculated from P–E loop. The performance of the composites as an NTC thermistor at high temperatures (275–400°C) was discussed. Thermistor constant, sensitivity index and activation energies were calculated to understand the characteristics of the NTC thermistor. This study presents the results of various analytical techniques applied to a painted wooden stela in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The examined elements of the stela included the wooden support, the prepared layer, and the various colors overlaying it. The techniques applied were the analysis of a cross-section from the wooden support using a USB digital microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy with Attenuated Total Reflection (FTIR), and Visible-induced Infrared Luminescence (VIL). The study also focused on the most active fungi that grow on the wood. The analysis of the pigments revealed the presence of Egyptian green and blue, hematite, calcium carbonate, and orpiment. These were applied on an orpiment background. An organic binder in the form of gum Arabic was detected, indicating the application of the tempera technique. To obtain ZrO2 and ZrO2+N2 thin films was used magnetron sputtering in radio frequency mode in a 10-6 mbar high vacuum deposition chamber. Silicon and carbon substrates measuring 12x15mm were used for deposition. The used magnetron system was composed of a single water-cooled cathode, provided with one circular targets of ZrO2 (2 mm thick and 50 mm in diameter) of high purity (99.95%). TDS Analysis of the films was performed. The desorbed species were observed with a QMG 220 Mass spectrometer provided with a W filament. It can be observed that in the case of the ZnO2 film, nitrogen desorption registers two maxima with signal intensity of 9.7x10-12 and 9.0x10-12, reached after 2000s and 4900s respectively. In the case of ZrO2+N2 film, nitrogen desorption shows a pronounced maximum with a signal intensity of 2.4x10-11 reached after 6000s. The topology the ZrO2 and ZrO2+N2 samples deposited on Si substrates have been investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using a FEI Inspect S scanning electron microscope (Hillsboro, Oregon, OR, USA) in high-vacuum modes. For the ZrO2 deposition, the surface appears to have grain-like topology, with a mean dimension of around 150 nm. These structures do not appear for the ZrO2+N2 deposition. Instead, for the ZrO2+N2 sample, small blisters (between 300 nm and 1.000nm) have formed on the surface, as a consequence of injecting N2 during the deposition. Cross-section measurements were also performed to establish the layer thickness. The ZrO2 sample has a measured thickness of 1950nm, while the introduction of N2 gas for the ZrO2+N2 sample had a poisoning effect on the magnetron target that led to a decrease (5 times) in deposition rate, giving this sample a final thickness of 365nm (compared to 1950nm) for the same deposition The crystalline structure was investigated using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) method. The experimental set-up was composed of a diffractometer equipped with a Cu-Kα X-ray sourse, with a specific wavelength of 0.154nm, in a Bragg-Bretano type geometry. In this way, a crystalline phase corresponding to ZrO2 with a group symmetry Fm-3m (225)-face centered cubic was identified. At the same time, it is observed that the films deposited in the reactive atmosphere show a pronounced amorphization, this most likely being due to the retention of nitrogen which leads to the modification of the network parameters. In this work, hydrothermal synthesis of NiO nanoparticles in aqueous solutions at higher temperatures was used. An investigation of its optical and electrical capabilities might be done in many ways. As a result, the size and structure of NiO nanoparticles were characterised using a scanning electron microscope. A powder X-ray diffractometer was used to measure experimentally the crystallite grain size and dislocation density, which were computed using the Scherer formula. The functional groups of the title nanoparticles were easily distinguishable in the FTIR spectrum. After optical absorption analyses, NiO nanoparticles were shown to have optimised UV-Visible transmittance. The density functional theory (B3LYP) was used to compute the bonding of molecular properties of NiO in the ground state using the basis sets 6-311+G (d, p) and 6-311++G (d, p). There is evidence of charge transfer in molecules based on the computed molecular electrostatic potential (MESP), Thermodynamic properties, HOMO and LUMO energies determined. New series of YBCO ceramics samples doping with different oxides such as SiO2, WO3, Al2O3, and TiO2 were fabricated to study the ionizing radiation shielding properties. The structure and morphology were explored by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The shielding properties were investigated experimentally and theoretically to check the validity of the results. The investigated radiation shielding properties include the proton, neutron, and gamma-ray. The XRD results show the orthorhombic structure for all ceramics without any additional peaks related to WO3, SiO2, TiO2, and Al2O3. At the same time, the SEM results appear to have a significant differentiation in the granular behavior of all ceramics surfaces. The incorporation of WO3 to YBCO enhanced the ceramic density, whereas the addition of different oxides reduced the density for ceramic samples. This variation in density changed the radiation shielding results. The sample containing WO3 (YBCO-W) gives us better results in radiation shielding properties for gamma and neutron; the sample having Al2O3 (YBCO-Al) is superior in shielding results for charged particles. The structure and mechanical properties of non-equiatomic Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Nb4, Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Nb2Ti2 and Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Ti4 high entropy alloys (HEAs) were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), hardness and tensile testing. TEM and XRD analyses revealed the formation of γ''-Ni3Nb/γ (FCC), double FCC and γ'-Ni3Al/γ (FCC) structure for as-cast Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Nb4, Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Nb2Ti2 and Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Ti4 HEAs, respectively. The hardness and yield strength values were found to increase with the addition of Nb while the ductility of alloys increased with the increase in Ti concentration, significantly. The as-cast Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Ti4 alloy exhibited an excellent combination of ultimate tensile strength of 844 MPa and an elongation of 29.8% due to the coherent phase relation between γ' precipitates and γ matrix. The fractured surfaces of as-cast Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Nb4, Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Nb2Ti2 and Al8Co30Cr18Fe9Ni31Ti4 HEAs showed typical dimple type ductile fracture under tension test. The present study aims to identify the pigments, ground layer, and previous restoration materials used in a polychrome wooden coffin using multi-analytical techniques. It utilized optical microscopy, technical imaging, scanning electron microscope attached to X-ray dispersion unit, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results showed the use of yellow as goethite a-FeOOH, blue as Egyptian blue [Cuprorivaite (CaCuSi4O10)], red as haematite (a-Fe2O3), and white as calcite (CaCO3). The black pigment as carbon (C) and the binding medium in both the calcite-based plaster layers and the polychrome layers was identified as animal glue. Magnesium alloys have become suitable candidates for potential biomedical materials due to their excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. Among different Mg alloys, the Mg–Zn–Ca system is the most popular degradable implant material. The aim of this work is the structure and thermal investigation of the ternary Mg66Zn30Ca4 alloy by a high-energy ball milling process for 5, 8, 13, and 20 h. Morphology changes (SEM) and phase analysis (XRD) of searching materials were investigated. The morphology of the obtained powders and the chemical composition were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) with the energy-dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The distribution of powder size of the samples was determined using the laser particle size analyzer. The thermal characteristics of the powders have been investigated up to 450 °C by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Additionally, a microhardness test was carried out. The XRD diffraction patterns of powders show the presence of a solid solution of αMg and the Mg51Zn20 phase. The characteristic Bragg lines of unreacted Zn and Ca can be observed in addition. The DSC analyses showed phase transformations taking place in the alloy. SEM analysis showed a lamellar morphology, which is the result of the deformation process within milling. The results of the microhardness (HV0.05) measuring showed that increasing the milling time improved the microhardness of the Mg66Zn30Ca4 alloy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nanoparticles of tin oxide (SnO2) doped with iron oxide (α-Fe2O3) and Europium oxide (Eu2O3) were synthesized through the solid-state synthesis method. The phase analysis confirms the tetragonal rutile phase for all samples using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The luminescence intensity and expansion of lattice depend on doping percentage, which validates the successful blending of Fe and Eu in SnO2 lattice. The lattice dislocation and strain are calculated using the Williamson–Hall (WH) parcel, which also supports the development of the grain boundary in the doped samples. An increase in a large number of recombination centers leads to quenching in optical spectra by using the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum, and the shift in the band gap estimated from UV–visible absorption spectra confirms the impact of the grain boundary. A vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) under the physical properties measurement system (PPMS) confirms room temperature ferromagnetism RTFM, and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) showed clear images of grain boundaries. Conductivity studies show an increase in resistance to Fe/Eu doping. Among all the tailored samples, Sn(1−x)Fex/EuO2, for x = 0.04 wt. % and 0.02 wt. % proved as a potential candidate for magneto-opto-electronic, i.e., spintronics device applications. The main objective of this work was to characterize and compare the microstructural and mechanical properties as well as erosion resistance of WC-12Co and WC-10Co-4Cr coatings. The High Velocity Oxy Fuel (HVOF) process was applied to carbon manganese steel API 2H typically used in oil and gas industries. Microstructural characterization of feedstock powder and coatings was conducted using scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopic (EDS) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) for phase determination, powder particle size distribution, and surface roughness measurement. The average particle size of the former powder was 13.7 µm whereas it was 28.1 µm for the latter. The results showed that the smaller particle size tends to melt easier than the larger one, as deduced from SEM images and surface roughness measurements. EDS and XRD results of both coatings indicated the occurrence of WC decomposition where the powder particle size plays a significant role in these results. Mechanical characterization was discussed through comparing hardness, erosion, and adhesion test results of both coatings. WC-10Co-4Cr coating exhibited higher hardness than WC-12Co as well as higher erosion resistance, due to the extent of decomposition of WC and also to carbide particle size within the coating layer; these are the same reasons for the superior adhesion strength of the former coating compared to the latter one as per ASTM Standard "C633- 13". In the present work, reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) polystyrene sulphonate (PEDOT:PSS)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) composite films are synthesized with varying rGO content from 0 to 25wt.%. The estimated average particles' sizes evaluated from scanning electron microscope of rGO/PEDOT:PSS/PVP are found to be in the range between 2.43 µm and 4.11 µm. The broad XRD peak at 2θ ~ 21.4o to 23° corresponds to (002) plane of rGO in rGO/PEDOT:PSS/PVP. The FTIR results at 829, 1287, 1344, 1413, 1421, 1642, 2950 and 3393 cm−1 correspond to vibration bonding of (C–S), (C–C), (S–O), (C–O–H), (C–N), (C=O), (C–H) and (O–H) respectively. The Raman spectra, ID/IG ratio varies from 0.31 to 0.35 for 15–25 wt%, indicating that the nitrogen bonding with carbon atom decreased with increasing rGO content. The absorption spectra at ~ 243.9 nm and 281.2 nm correspond to (p–p*) and (n–p*) transitions respectively from 15 to 25 wt% of rGO. Form Tauc's plot optical bandgap was decreased from 5.2 to 4.79 eV with increasing of rGO contents. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) spectrum indicates that thermal degradation of the rGO/PEDOT:PSS/PVP composite starts above ~ 350 °C. From CV analysis, the maximum specific capacitance was found to be 447.14 F/g and from the galvanic charge–discharge curve, the maximum specific capacitance was found to be 225.71 A/g for 25 wt% rGO content rGO/PEDOT:PSS/PVP. Zingiber officinale (known as ginger), a natural flowering plant of Zingiberaceae family, was taken to investigate its possible utilization in a textile material. Zingiber officinale fibers (ZOFs) were obtained from the plant root. The cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin contents of ZOFs were determined. Elemental analysis of ZOFs was carried out with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) instrument. Surface morphology of fibers was investigated with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) instrument. The chemical functional groups of ZOFs were confirmed with Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The crystalline structure of ZOFs was analyzed with X-ray diffraction (XRD), and then the crystallinity index was calculated as 78.81%. In addition to this, mechanical properties of ZOFs were investigated with Shimadzu Ag-X machine. The EDX and FT-IR results show that ZOFs have cellulosic structure. Furthermore, it was obtained that ZOFs have rough surface structure and the thickness is approximately 155 µm. The physical properties of ZOFs are substantial enough for its usage as a textile fiber. Retrogradation of sweet potato amylose and amylopectin with narrow molecular weight distribution at different temperatures was investigated by X‐ray diffraction (XRD). Atomic force microscope (AFM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and light microscopy were combined to study the morphology of the molecular assemblies during retrogradation. Avrami equation was used to the retrogradation kinetics the of above starches by determining the crystallinity and the ratio of peak area of two distinctive peaks. It was found that only the ratio of peak area/total area at 2θ = ~16.3° could represent the crystallinity of retrograded starch‐containing amorphous regions. Considering the crystallinity as retrogradation rate, only the retrogradation kinetics of sweet potato amylose could be analysed by Avrami equation, but not the amylopectin's. All Avrami exponents n of amyloses at any temperatures were less than 1.0, indicating instantaneous nucleation and rod‐like growth. AFM results showed that the maximum heights of layered structure for sweet potato amylose, amylopectin and blending of both were approximately 4800, 180 and 200 nm, respectively. The height of the former two decreased during storage, but the height of blending remained unchanged. Amylose served as nuclei of amylopectin during starch retrogradation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The p‐aramid fiber is mostly used in high tech applications such as protective clothing, cut resistant gloves, heat resistant suits, etc. due to its extraordinary mechanical and thermal properties. On the other hand, it loses its strength upon exposure to UV (ultraviolet) light. The main purpose of this work is to optimize p‐aramid fabrics dyeing with disperse dyes and study the impact of dye on its properties such as shade depth (K/S), fastness, and UV degradation. The batch process is used to dye the fabric with disperse dyes that give high K/S value. The ANOVA (analysis of variance) is performed for the result investigation, depicting the input and output variables relation. The mechanical loss of p‐aramid on exposure to UV was confirmed by bursting strength showing 28% strength loss in comparison to the dyed p‐aramid fabric having 15% loss in strength. This was further endorsed by scanning electron microscope and X‐ray diffraction by investigating the changes in surface morphology and crystallinity on exposure to UV simultaneously to confirm the hypothesis that dyeing reduces the degradation upon exposure to UV light. This research aimed to investigate scaffolds of mixed polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and hydroxyapatite (HA) that can be considered as a candidate of synthetic graft materials for cleft palate. Polymethylmethacrylate-hydroxyapatite (PMMA-HA) scaffold was done by weighing PMMA granules and HA powder for a 20:80, 30:70 and 40:60 ratio, that mixed and moulded in 5 mm of diameter and 10 mm of height, then freeze dried before being analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) instruments. XRD analysis in 20:80, 30:70 and 40:60 ratio has a peak that represents HA and an amorphous peak that represents PMMA, with the best ratio is 30:70.FTIR analysis showed the existence of HA functional groups namely phosphate (PO43- ), calcium carbonate (CO32- ), and hydroxyl (OH- ) in all three samples, with 20:80 ratio as the optimal composition. SEM observation showed visible interconnected pores and roughness, also various pore sizes that averaged by 278.71µm; 312.3µm; 332.8µm, and 1.267µm; 1.716µm; 1.951µm, that showed by 50x and 5000x magnification, with 20:80 ratio as the ideal environment. EDX analysis showed Calsium (Ca), Oxygen (O), Phosphate (P), Silicate (Si), and Aluminium (Al) contained in the PMMA-HA sample, with 20:80 ratio as the highest potention to osteoblast regeneration.
