This study examines the obstacles and opportunities for AI-enhanced dairy farms for decarbonization. Using a single case study of a dairy entrepreneur, purposive sampling, and content analysis. This review summarizes current knowledge on the GHG impacts and profitability of climate-smart dairy practices, including digital, regenerative, and controlled environment farming systems. The results reveal significant obstacles to AI implementation, including lack of technological knowledge, funding limitations, insufficient government support, inadequate business model integration, and a lack of design thinking approaches. Despite these challenges, the obstacles present opportunities to assist entrepreneurs and improve business model strategies with the help of stakeholders such as policymakers, industry experts, and investors. The findings, based on a single case study, offer practical insights into transforming these obstacles into opportunities to improve AI-enhanced dairy farm business models. The study highlights a gap that points toward the potential for improving AI adoption in Thailand's dairy farming sector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Organizations and markets are constantly developing and changing, impacting how organizations create value and manage supply chains. This paper aims to identify the motor themes and subthemes of academic research that relate supply chain management (SCM) maturity and business models (BMs). Design/methodology/approach: The Science Mapping Analysis Tool (SciMAT) was used to conduct a seven-step bibliometric analysis of 889 documents indexed in the Scopus database clustering by relatedness of works and keywords. The methodological approach included content analysis of the literature, longitudinal analysis and strategic diagram analysis. Findings: The thematic evolution analysis revealed that three themes drive the studies on SCM maturity and BM: industry 4.0 (motor theme), environmental management (transversal theme) and product management (highly developed and isolated theme). The strategic diagrams and co-word networks allowed to graphically identify the main topics connecting SCM maturity and BM. Considering this connection, the scientific mapping emphasizes the significance and strength of the link between digital technologies, technology management and manufacturing management in Industry 4.0. In addition, the connections between the subthemes revealed that circular economy and green human resource management are important concepts to advance theory and practice on the connection between SCM maturity and BM. Originality/value: This research extends the knowledge base by providing an analysis of the key themes and the links with subthemes in the literature that relate to SCM maturity and BM. Key studies are analyzed and linked with the key topics identified using the SciMAT software. Future research avenues are outlined, providing new insights to advance theory and practice. Purpose: Product-as-a-Service (PaaS) has the potential to enable closed-loop supply chains (CLSC) and decrease environmental impact, but it is only applied on a small scale. The purpose of this paper is to explore and develop a framework of challenges and corresponding mitigations encountered by Business-to-Consumer (B2C) retailers when transitioning to PaaS. Design/methodology/approach: Data collection drew on a qualitative interview study with two industry experts and four PaaS B2C retailers from different Dutch industries. Findings: A framework was developed linking 26 challenges in eight clusters—financial, product-related, supply chain-related, consumer-related, human resources, research and development/technology, regulatory and industry-related—to 24 mitigations. The mitigations were elaborated, and theoretical insights for matching challenges with mitigations were provided. Research limitations/implications: This study expands PaaS literature to the generally under-researched retail context. It contributes to CLSC literature by applying it to a less-studied context, thereby revealing many supply chain-related challenges and mitigations encountered by B2C retailers. Practical implications: The framework offers practical guidance to retail managers for overcoming or preventing challenges in PaaS, in their endeavours toward adopting environmentally sustainable practices. Social implications: The study creates awareness about environmental sustainability and the potential to reduce societal impact, in which a PaaS-enabled CLSC is one step. Originality/value: Studying PaaS and CLSC in a retail context is timely and novel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article employs a probit model to analyze the determinants influencing businesses in the Western Balkans to mitigate their environmental impact and assess the feasibility of transitioning to a circular business model. It relies on primary survey data gathered in all Western Balkan countries by professional research agencies in 2022, with a representative sample of approximately 200 businesses per country. The findings reveal that factors such as being an exporting, foreign, innovative, and loan-receiving company increase the likelihood of businesses in the Western Balkans taking measures to reduce their environmental impact. Moreover, being an exporting and loan-receiving company emerges as influential in fostering the belief that a shift to a circular business model is attainable. These insights have profound implications for policymakers and businesses aiming to promote sustainable practices and circular economy initiatives within the Western Balkans. Additionally, this article contributes to policy development and knowledge on environmental and circular practices in developing economies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore networked business models on a nascent market for a sustainable innovation. Design/methodology/approach: The study takes a qualitative approach through a comparative case study of three solar photovoltaic (PV) parks in Sweden. Data was collected from 14 interviews with multiple supply chain and network actors as well as secondary data. Industrial marketing and purchasing is applied for theoretical framing. Findings: The study demonstrates transactional, relational, environmental and social drivers for participating in the network. The study reveals the duplicity of the nascent market, which encourages supply chain actors to develop their individual business models to take a larger market share or become future competitors to current collaborators. On the nascent market with few developed regulations, the network enables actors to influence regulations on local and regional levels. Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to the nascent solar PV industry in Sweden, which is characterized by institutional turbulence, market uncertainties and few established supply networks. Practical implications: Practitioners need to consider multifarious drivers for participating in networked business models, where the economic driver may be the least motivating. Originality/value: This study provides several multiactor business models and classifies them into specific applications and general applications. The study provides unique insight into the complexity of interactions among supply chain actors in networked business models on a nascent market for sustainable innovation. Due to the scarcity of available partners on the nascent market, actors need to look beyond their on-going relationships and their network horizon, or actors' roles evolve to include activities that was not part of their individual business models. Purpose: The paper aims to analyse the construct of business model innovation (BMI) in the digital and sustainable landscape, investigating the key role of boundary strategies. The paper advances a comprehensive framework aimed at further understanding the overlap among digitalization, sustainability and BMI development, by a "boundary approach". Design/methodology/approach: The paper follows a theoretical approach based on an in-depth review of relevant literature on BMI, digitalization and sustainability as relevant megatrends and, boundary management. By critically integrating the literature, a framework is developed with the objective of supporting firms in the current transformation challenges. Findings: The paper highlights the interplay among BMIs, megatrends and boundary management. The pressures and opportunities driven by the technological changes have made even more relevant the management of resources placed in the boundary area. Our study shows how firms can rethink their BMs in the digital and sustainable landscape by providing a boundary-based framework. Practical implications: The framework offers insights and guidelines to help practitioners manage the change processes dictated by digitalization and sustainability. The authors encourage a focus on boundary resources/capabilities to increase the effective management of the digitalization and sustainability processes, to grasp the external stimuli driven by these two megatrends and to develop new/renewed BMIs. Originality/value: This study emphasizes the importance of developing new BMIs in the current digital and sustainable landscape starting from the analysis of firm's boundaries. The paper enriches the BMI literature supporting the enhancement of boundary management, leading firms to overcome challenges in the digital and sustainable landscape. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Today, collaborative consumption platforms support business activities. In particular, the sharing economy (SE) increases social and economic dynamism and reduces environmental impact by conserving resources. Therefore, this paper investigates the sustainable value drivers of sharing economy practices. Design/methodology/approach: We explore multiple case studies as a research approach to answer the research question. Multiple sources of evidence were used to triangulate the data. The SE practices influence several sectors; thus, we conducted a sector analysis investigating the healthcare, food and fashion industries. Analysing different sectors provides valuable theoretical and practical insights, facilitating decision-making and fostering innovation. Sectoral differences emphasize how different sustainable SE models are configured. Findings: The findings highlight that SE allows for the development of sustainable business models attesting to: (1) value capture in the food industry, (2) value delivery in the healthcare industry and (3) value creation in the fashion industry. The study opens avenues for future research. Originality/value: The originality of this study is in the new lens from which the phenomenon is observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Contemporary organisations recognise the need for Anthropocene disruptions and transform their business models, restructure their operations, and re-engineer their supply chains to attain greater sustainable objectives and a strong ESG (environmental-social-governance) proposition. Indeed, physical asset management shifted from the negative image associated with asset failure, expensive maintenance, and decommissioning to an enabler of sustainability that allows us to create and capture value from extended lifetime, renewed functions, and increased awareness. In this direction, this study follows a systematic reviewing process enabled by text analytics methods to identify the means and approaches to build a sustainable perspective for physical asset management. Our key contributions and insights are supported by statistics and key features extracted from over 2800 journal articles. We particularly emphasise the research footprint, the evolution, and research trends of the two most asset-intensive sectors (i.e. construction and energy) represented as barriers and enablers of sustainable development. Lacking a unified perspective of the field, this study proposes a conceptual framework that adopts an asset-within-a-system perspective, recognises the links between the stakeholders and holistically integrates the extracted research trends. The knowledge provided here positions physical asset management as a key resource in achieving competitive advantage in the framework of sustainable development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LIFE cycle costing ,BUSINESS models ,MANUFACTURING industries ,REMANUFACTURING ,SUSTAINABILITY - Abstract
Introduction: With the much-needed transformation from linear to more circular resource flows, it is imperative for enterprises to understand their financial prospects. Transforming towards Product-as-a-Service (PaaS) with circular elements introduces new considerations that must be addressed to ensure profitability and sustainability. However, there is a lack of comprehensive financial assessments based on empirical cases to guide companies in assessing the lucrativeness of their transformations. This paper addresses this gap by proposing a simple-to-use and flexible financial assessment model for PaaS, helping practitioners identify the conditions necessary for financial viability from both provider and user perspectives. Methods: Grounded in transdisciplinary research, this study focuses on a construction machine manufacturer's transformation from a traditional one-off sales business model to PaaS. The transformation is analysed through the development of a life cycle costing financial assessment model that addresses relevant cost drivers. Results: Using discounting methods, the model can help practitioners generate scenarios to identify feasible solutions for profitable PaaS setups. Additionally, the paper presents an analytical procedure to identify conditions for a financially viable PaaS. The procedure includes scenario-based analysis that accounts for systemic changes often necessary for successfully realising PaaS. Discussion: By following the proposed procedure, along with the financial assessment model, manufacturers can streamline their financial assessments to identify necessary changes. For the analysed case company, the modelling results indicate that it must redesign its products for PaaS to outperform its previous business model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BUSINESSPEOPLE , *NEW business enterprises , *BUSINESS models , *SOFT skills , *STUDENT leadership - Abstract
Purpose: The objective of this instrumental case study is to investigate issues impacting capability development/transformation with respect to student entrepreneurs' aspirations to create a viable, evolving business model for their start-ups, namely, that are underpinned by goals featuring the "triple bottom line". That is, instead of simply profits as an economic performance metric, there is also a consideration of wider social issues within the notion of "responsible leadership", involving people and the planet. Design/methodology/approach: Underpinned by a "capabilities lens", the research setting focuses on the perceptions of student entrepreneurs together with other stakeholders in a Canadian university. The country context is pertinent, since to gain scalability, owners of start-up firms may need to internationalise to overcome limited domestic demand (despite the large geographic area); also, stakeholders' support is sometimes needed to facilitate growth. Findings: New insights demonstrate the need for appropriate stakeholders to facilitate effective transformative capability development amongst student entrepreneurs with triple bottom line objectives. Student entrepreneurs' capability of validating facets of a viable evolving business model that address "all" and not "some" aspects of the triple bottom line is especially important. This is alongside the capability of being able to pivot product-market strategies where necessary, and this may feature the need to internationalise in the event there is limited domestic demand. A capability to develop soft skills is also likely to help student entrepreneurs communicate with stakeholders. In turn, such capabilities are likely to help move ideation, passed validation and through to commercialisation. Originality/value: The utility of institutions and associated stakeholders offering education and training support to develop capabilities amongst students as aspiring entrepreneurs has featured in earlier studies. Likewise, issues associated with the notion of sustainability have also been previously considered. The originality of this instrumental case study is to offer a more nuanced investigation into salient issues associated with capability development amongst student entrepreneurs exhibiting triple bottom line objectives in their start-ups. That is, focusing on considerations related to validating their evolving business models and especially when facing limited domestic market demand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DEMOGRAPHIC change , *BUSINESS models , *SCALABILITY , *SUSTAINABILITY , *BEST practices , *SOCIAL innovation - Abstract
The demographic change calls for the creation of age-friendly environments that result from the collaboration between several fields. Previous initiatives fostering age-friendly environments often had less-than-desired impact or reach due to financial and bureaucratic constraints. Additionally, territory-specific standards and needs hinder the replication of good practices. Based on a mixed-methods approach combining a narrative review of knowledge models followed by expert consultation, we propose a framework to maximise the sustainability of Smart Healthy Age-friendly Environment (SHAFE) initiatives by connecting local ecosystems and stakeholders, including underrepresented entities, and thus promote sustainable business models, to ensure the replicability, scalability, and sustainability - the Transnational Local-sphere Model. This social innovation framework goes beyond previously established helix frameworks, by incorporating fresh ideas on democratic policy making, transnational spanning, and inter-ecosystem collaboration, as well as emphasising the role of institutions, stakeholders, networks, and principles. The collaboration and competition between the different stakeholders ensure a value-driven, cost-effective, and inclusive intervention, maximising impact. The Transnational Local-Sphere Model can also be applied in the development of other social innovation initiatives that benefit a user-centred multi-stakeholder inter-ecosystem approach. With growing global attention on achieving sustainable development goals, businesses worldwide face mounting pressures to incorporate sustainability into their business models and operations. However, despite the recognized importance of sustainability in modern manufacturing operations, the path toward embedding sustainability remains unclear and challenging for many manufacturing firms. Within the theoretical framework of dynamic capability theory and the imperative of sustainable development goals, this study investigates the influence of sustainable business models, crowdfunding, Industry 4.0 technologies, and stakeholders' pressure on the sustainable performance of manufacturing firms in Pakistan. Based on survey data from 370 small and medium enterprise owners and managers, our study utilized a hybrid approach by combining partial least squares–Structural equation modeling (SEM) and artificial neural networking techniques. The results emphasize a significant and positive impact of a sustainable business model on firm sustainability. Moreover, the findings reveal that Industry 4.0 technology and crowdfunding partially mediate the relationship between sustainable business models and sustainable performance, highlighting the significant role of advanced technologies and alternative financing. Besides, stakeholders' pressure emerges as a crucial moderator, further strengthening the relationship between sustainable business models and firm sustainability. This study advances knowledge of sustainable business actions within the firms and constitutes a valuable input for businesses, policymakers, and other stakeholders dedicated to enhancing sustainable growth in the manufacturing sector. Social and environmental challenges are forcing organizations to develop sustainable business models (SBMs). Literature on SBMs has identified the importance of stakeholders and collaboration. Collaboration and positions of stakeholders within the value‐chain opens the discussion about organizational boundaries and their role in enhancing or hindering sustainable business model innovation. Through a literature review, this study analyzes 53 papers at the intersection of SBMs and boundaries to clarify how SBMs change organizational boundaries, and how these boundaries affect the sustainability values of organizations. We aim to identify key stakeholders, who hold negotiation power at organizational boundaries. The paper identifies important managerial questions that may assist organizations in the process of unpacking sustainable value and broaden their scope of key stakeholders. Finally, we formulate future research areas to advance research at the intersection of SBMs and organizational boundaries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Stakeholder engagement has been at the forefront of the organisational sustainability debate, particularly focusing on operational sustainability practices (OSP). While sustainability literature increasingly focuses on sustainable business models (SBMs) and the relationship to OSP, research on stakeholder engagement in SBMs and how this relates to engagement in OSP has been scarce. Based on case study research, this paper contributes to the debate by first providing empirical evidence on engagement practices for implementing SBMs. Second, this paper proposes the stakeholder engagement flow model, highlighting how stakeholder engagement for implementing SBMs need to be adapted in relation to stakeholder engagement in OSP. While stakeholder engagement is often continuous for a broad range of stakeholders, successfully implementing SBMs may also require changing engagement practices both in terms of engagement approach and role of stakeholders. The results advance the theoretical debate on stakeholder engagement for organisational sustainability and support practitioners to rethink and evaluate their stakeholder engagement efforts when aiming to implement OSP and SBMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, sharing economy business models (BMs) have gained substantial research attention. This stream has led to several important insights, but due to its practical nature and diversity, it has provided limited conceptual integration. This introductory article conceptualizes the research field of sharing economy BMs and their implications for market dynamics, digital technology, and sustainability. Furthermore, we summarize the six articles published in the special issue of sharing economy BMs and discuss how each of them pushes the boundaries of empirical and conceptual insights in the field. Overall, this special issue contributes to a deeper understanding of research in the intersection of the sharing economy and business models and develops a call for future research across the three dimensions of market dynamics, technology, and sustainability. SOCIAL engineering (Political science) , *DECISION making in investments , *BUSINESS models , *SOCIAL impact , *MORAL attitudes - Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this work is to approach the concept of sustainable entrepreneurship from a theoretical and a practical point of view, paying attention to new business models that are emerging around the world for social innovation. In this context, we focus the attention on the business model called one-for-one and we wonder whether the Colombian market should be a good option for developing this business model. Design/methodology/approach: To test the viability of the business model one-for-one we conducted a market research in March 2019, with a sample of students from two higher education institutions in the city of Medellin (Colombia). Findings: The results of the empirical research show the positive moral attitude of Colombian to solve social problems, but also the market immaturity because of the relative low purchase intentions found in Colombian potential consumers. Research limitations/implications: Not exempt from criticism, this work defends innovative business models standing for a business driven concept of sustainability which focusses on increasing both economic as well as social value. Practical implications - The model of donating one item to someone in need, for each item purchased, could be considered in the future a viable option for developing business models in Colombia. Social implications - Nowadays and more than never before, society requires that the actions of companies are aimed at contributing to social development and environmental sustainability, as well as economic viability. Companies oriented towards present and future sustainability in the decision making of purchase or investment will be an important source of competitive advantages in the near future. For companies to survive in the long term, they need to sell products and services that are recognised by the market in terms of environmental and sustainability criteria. Meeting these challenges in the business environment requires companies to adapt and improve their existing business models. The research underlying the present study focused on the largest companies in Hungary in terms of number of employees (mainly medium and large companies), focusing on the current and expected levels of development of environmental strategies. The research was conducted through a questionnaire survey and used cluster analysis method to analyse the data. The clustering by level of environmental strategies resulted in three distinct groups of companies (Leaders, Awakening, and Laggards). The research results indicate that the companies in the study are already actively tackling environmental challenges and anticipate that innovations addressing these issues will play a more prominent role in their future objectives. This study aims to analyze the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies as motivators to circular economy (CE) in the Brazilian foodtech sector via most relevant stakeholders. The study focuses on specific startups in the foodtech sector in the Brazilian context, offering a unique perspective on a relevant niche. It explores how I4.0 technologies are fundamental in the practices adopted by foodtechs, indicating an innovative approach aligned with technological trends. About the methodology, it was carried out through interviews with nine managers of foodtechs. Other sources of data collect have been used, such as reports, presentations, folders, products catalogs, consultations in companies sites, Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, and videos on the Companies YouTube. The results show that: (i) the I4.0 technologies are fundamental in the practices adopted by the foodtechs; (ii) the CE being internalized, supported by I4.0; (iii) CE is made possible by gathering synergy and co‐participation from stakeholders which are strategic and relevant to foodtechs; (iv) innovation factor is present in the adoption of I4.0, in the operationalization of the practices of CE and in the production of synergy among the stakeholders relevant to foodtechs; (v) the creation of new markets is also a consequence of the adoption of I4.0, the adoption of CE and the articulation of stakeholders in the context analyzed; (vi) virtualize and regenerate are the most strengthened strategies at the sphere of the analyzed foodtechs; (vii) IoT, Big Data and integration of ubiquitous and intelligent components in supply chains are the highlighted artifacts in the making of CE practices at foodtechs levels; (viii) foodtechs of food producers have shown a greater synergy and articulation of stakeholders to the success of CE supported by I4.0. The contribution of the study is associated to the legitimation of I4.0 technologies as motivators to the adoption of CE and the engagement of stakeholders to successful circular business models. The study used a qualitative approach and collected data through interviews with nine startups in Brazil. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data. The limitations of the study include the small sample size and the focus on startups in one country. Future research should aim to explore the integration of I4.0 and the CE in larger samples, across multiple countries, and involving different types of organizations. Additionally, the study highlights the need for government support for startups in the form of funding, incentives, and regulations, as well as the importance of education and training programs to develop skills related to I4.0 and the CE. Overall, the research objectives are to understand the opportunities and challenges of I4.0 and CE integration in startups and to provide insights for policymakers and practitioners on how to foster sustainable business practices. The specificity of your study in exploring the relationship between the CE and I4.0 technologies in Brazilian foodtechs is a unique contribution. Many studies may focus on broader industries or international contexts, while yours delves into a specific, relevant niche. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Increasing port productivity will affect increasing port income. To be able to achieve this, Resources already in place must be optimized. One option cannot adequately address the complexity of factors affecting port productivity. A method called multiple objectives can assist decision-makers in logically allocating resources by using models for numerous distinct purposes at once. Several objectives must be achieved, including maximizing revenue, minimizing environmental costs, and maximizing the number of workers to design a non-commercial port business optimization model. These goals contain different or even contradictory aspects. For this reason, we need a method that can provide an optimal solution: a meeting point (trade-off) of these goals. The goal programming method can solve problems optimally with more than one (multi) goal objective. The research results show that the product combination resulting from goal programming optimization is more profitable than what the company has done so far. Optimization results fulfil aspects of sustainable port management, namely economic, social, and environmental elements. With this optimization method, port managers can optimize their ports in a balanced way between seeking profits, advancing job growth and minimizing environmental impacts, thus leading to sustainable port management. Social enterprises, social entrepreneurship and sustainable business models are increasingly common in sectors where Fair Trade does not have a strong presence (e.g. mobile phones and software). This research asks: To what extent do social and sustainability enterprises and entrepreneurship (SSEEs) in these 'distant' sectors engage the principles of Fair Trade? It draws on an in-depth, multi-method case study of SSEEs in the legal cannabis sector in Portland, Oregon, US. It analyzes data from magazine advertisements, public and industry events, and visits to 85 cannabis retailers. The results suggest that SSEEs in distant sectors may not be engaging some of the principles that are at the heart of Fair Trade. These include transparency, accountability, collaborative price-setting, pre-payment, honouring contracts, inclusive governance and worker organizing. SSEEs appear more engaged with the environment and buy-cotting (privileging) small producers, sustainable businesses and marginalized groups. How can Fair Trade encourage and empower SSEEs in distant sectors to engage more principles of Fair Trade? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Any sharing mobility service aims to make urban mobility sustainable to help reduce environmental impacts and improve the quality of life for all in cities. Many transport services are not currently self-sustainable. The Life for Silver Coast (LifeSC) opened its mobility services on 22 May 2021 and offered electric mobility services during the summer for a few cities in Tuscany. E-bikes and e-scooters can be financially neutral, and even profitable, thanks to the low costs of the vehicles, but they only see a high utilization rate in winter. Shared electric cars, meanwhile, are not profitable. A new shared service that is viable must be profitable to become widely adopted and significantly contribute to sustainability. A few key characteristics have been identified, and one has been tested with a new business model that combines ride-sharing and car-sharing. The innovative Ride Sharing Algorithm (RSA) has been tested based on data from a potential city, Monterondo, where many commuters travel daily to Rome by train. The Italian census and local survey data allowed for the simulation of the scheduling of vehicle rides and an evaluation of the economic results, which could be positive if enough interest for such a system exists among the people, as at least 400 commuters from Monterotondo go to the train station daily in the morning and return in the afternoon. Such a transport demand would justify a new commercial sharing service by using the model tested with the RSA algorithm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Datajadesta.com classifies tourist villages into four categories: independent, advanced, developing, and pioneering. More local communities gain from increased rural tourism managed by tourism-focused organizations. However, problems with management often arise, which increases the risk that the tourism sector won't grow or reach a certain level. This is a problem that any group that cares about tourism, like the Pokdarwis, must overcome. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the significant influence of social entrepreneurial orientation in advancing the sustainability of rural tourism (the so-called triple bottom line) in terms of benefits to the environment, community, and economy. This orientation can indirectly benefit the management strategies of tourism-aware organizations. While performing. Design/methodology/approach: By using accidental sampling, up to 34 rural tourism activists from each tourism awareness group across Indonesian rural tourism were gathered in accordance with the criteria from https://jadesta.kemenparekraf.go.id. Based on their advanced and mature levels, respondents were selected. autonomous tourist village. To ensure meaningful relationships, process the data using Smart Pls 4. Findings/Result: Hypothesis 1, social entrepreneurship orientation has a major impact on community empowerment. However, hypothesis 2 indicates that social entrepreneurship orientation has no significant impact on the sustainability of rural tourism. Finally, hypothesis 3 asserts that social entrepreneurship orientation has a significant impact on the sustainability of rural tourism through community empowerment. Conclusion: Encouraging community involvement in tourism development and promoting social entrepreneurship as a means of achieving the Triple Bottom Line, as well as the significant role it plays in empowering local communities and promoting sustainability in tourist villages. Originality/Value (State Of the art): The study highlights the critical role of social entrepreneurial orientation in promoting the sustainability of rural tourism through community empowerment, though it does not directly impact sustainability on its own. By classifying tourist villages into various development stages, the research underscores the necessity of effective management by organizations like Pokdarwis to overcome challenges and foster growth. Increased regulations and shifting consumer priorities are driving businesses to become more sustainable and to develop more sustainable business models. To achieve this, businesses must have a solid understanding of sustainability. Organizational learning (OL) is a key capability that helps firms understand and adapt to new phenomena such as sustainability. We explore the nexus between OL and sustainability by examining how organizations learn about the latter. We employ an embedded case study approach, conducting 49 interviews and collecting over 1,000 pages of archival data. Our findings reveal concrete learning mechanisms that enhance understanding of sustainability and sustainable business models, including knowledge creation/acquisition, retention, and transfer, in business practices. Our study provides scholars and business practitioners with a detailed framework to guide the operationalization of OL to gain sustainability knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper explores the dynamic field of circular economy and circular business models, analyzing the most influential and highly-cited papers and authors to provide an up-to-date overview of the research landscape by consolidating insights from leading publications and scholars. Using data from the Web of Science database, the paper scrutinizes 528 scientific articles published between 2004 and 2023, demonstrating a notable annual growth rate of 22.73%, which highlights the importance and relevance of the field of circular economy and circular business models. This paper conducts a comprehensive and objective literature review using bibliometric analysis to uncover prevailing topics and trends in the fields of the circular economy and the circular business model. The analysis identifies the ten most influential papers, allowing for a synthesis of the current state of the field. The results of the research are divided into two parts. The first part examines the dominant themes and research methodologies in the selected papers. The second part offers a critical analysis of the consolidated knowledge, organized around three dominant themes: conceptualizing the circular economy, transforming linear business models into circular ones, and designing products to promote the circular economy. Nevertheless, the paper identifies several challenges within the field, including the need for practical applications and evaluations of circular business models across different industrial and geographical contexts and the incorporation of social aspects into the circular economy. Future research directions should focus on understanding the factors affecting the efficiency and implementation of circular business models, as well as developing new metrics to measure their performance. An increasing number of incumbent manufacturing firms is nowadays incorporating sustainability principles into their business models. This shift is often referred to as sustainable business model innovation. This transformation process is at the same time beneficial and challenging and there is a need for more research clarity on leveraging ambidexterity to develop sustainable business models in response to environmental and societal goals in manufacturing industry. This paper addresses this gap by conducting a single case study on incumbent multinational manufacturing company from oil and gas industry. The findings suggest that balanced integration of contextual ambidexterity at the individual level and structural separation of exploitation and exploration activities at the company level can enhance sustainable business innovation. The findings provide considerable assistance and guidance to managers in manufacturing industry searching for ways to navigate challenges when aligning their business models with sustainability goals. Purpose: Describe the development of digital business models of fishing companies in the city of Mar del Plata and their relationship with the sustainability of production processes. Methodology: The research is based on a descriptive-correlational quantitative methodology, with the application of a multivariate analysis technique, cluster analysis, to identify groupings of companies based on secondary sources of information. Results: Mar del Plata fishing companies offer different asymmetries in the development of their business model through digital marketing channels, with few representations of current technological advances in the final stretch of the value chain. Research limitations: The limitation of the work lies in the lack of longitudinal data that prevents evaluating long-term changes in the integration of digitalization and sustainability. Originality: The study on business models and environmental commitment in the fishing industry in the southeast of the province of Buenos Aires reveals a predominant emphasis on commercial innovation, often to the detriment of comprehensive approaches. This approach decouples digitalization from sustainability, particularly among the sector's pioneers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents an analysis of the business behavior of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that consider themselves green in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. The study was carried out during the period 2021-2023 and focused on analysing the organisational actions focused on the sustainability of the business model of these companies. To this end, a multiple correspondence analysis was used, which allowed to evaluate the statistical dispersion between business variables in different functional areas. This analysis was carried out using the R model and following the stages of reading, modelling, and communicating results. Purpose: This article becomes relevant when analysing the behavior and organizational actions focused on the sustainability of the business models of ecological small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bogotá, one of the main cities and economic engines of Colombia. Conducting a statistical assessment of these companies is critical to understanding the drivers of environmentally responsible practices, identifying patterns, challenges, and opportunities. The research contributes to filling a gap by providing an up-to-date, data-driven view of green SMEs in a Latin American urban context. In addition, the use of multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) provides a novel and rigorous approach to assess the dispersion and relationships between multiple business variables in different functional areas. This multivariate statistical analysis, performed using R software and following best practices, guarantees quality and reliability. Methodology: The methodology used in this study is based on data exploration, which allows to describe the research factors of mixed exploratory and descriptive characteristic, in which the hypothesis is validated through a statistical analysis of multiple correspondences. This multiple correspondence analysis allows the study of cross frequencies or contingency tables to analyse the simultaneity of the study. Results (mandatory): The results of the study indicate that there is a close relationship between the lifespan of SMEs and the implementation of sustainable business activities in their business model. SMEs with more than 3 years of presence in the market show corporate ecological strength, while those with less than three years of presence show low adherence to sustainability processes and actions. In total, the analysis was carried out in 32 of the 42 companies reported in Bogotá Research limitations: Some of the main limitations presented during the study focused on access to companies' information, the process of evaluating the sustainability of their processes and the dissemination of the results, since it is sensitive information for young companies that are venturing into a specialized market such as the green market. Originality: The origin of the study is based on identifying and describing the results found in the assessment or measurement of sustainability in the corporate processes of SMEs, analyzing the associated variables through a multiple correspondence allows identifying actions associated with sustainability [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Startups significantly impact global economies through market innovations, often challenging existing paradigms. Typically adopting the blue ocean strategy to acquire customers swiftly, startups face unique management challenges. This study explores the relationship between management approaches, strategies, and business models in startups, addressing a gap in the literature that often focuses on established companies. It aims to identify effective management methods for startups by examining three key questions: – their awareness of strategies and business models, – the correlation between this awareness and the effectiveness of management tools. – the specific tools that align with different levels of awareness. The article consists of four sections: a literature review highlighting the importance of business strategies and models, a detailed research methodology, presentation of research findings, and conclusions with managerial recommendations. The literature review identifies a gap in startup studies, particularly regarding strategy and business model formalization. The methodology employs qualitative and quantitative approaches, including literature reviews, Delphi studies, surveys, and semi-structured interviews. Findings reveal that most startups identify their strategies and business models, though the level of formalization varies. A significant correlation exists between the formalization of strategy and business models and the effectiveness of management tools. The study identifies 44 management methods, techniques, and tools, including SWOT analysis, Business Model Canvas (BMC), and Lean Startup methods. The study concludes that a structured strategy and business model management approach enhances startup efficiency and effectiveness. It highlights the importance of simultaneous management of both elements. However, the research is limited to Polish startups, potentially influencing the results. Future research should extend this study to different geographical contexts and examine the relationship between strategy and startup business models. This research underscores the potential for further studies on management tools and methodologies in the green economy sector, where sustainable ecosystem creation is globally acknowledged. Linking these findings to sustainability can stimulate further examination of strategies and managerial tools in sustainable businesses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to analyse emerging trends in the fashion industry, focusing on the growing role the circular economy is playing in introducing a new business paradigm based on the so-called "3 Rs" principle: reduce, reuse and recycle. Six interesting case studies are presented; three focus on fashion companies (Rifò, Rapanui and Cingomma) that base their business model on this circular economy principle, while the other three relate to companies (Orange Fiber, Ananas Anam, Due di Latte) using sustainable materials to produce fashion items. The careful selection of raw materials and the application of technological innovation in the production system allow companies to implement new sustainable approaches to production, resulting in two critical outcomes: recycled fashion products that can be reintegrated into the environment and the reuse of products that can be revalued without rather than wasted. COVID-19 pandemic ,BUSINESS models ,SUSTAINABILITY ,VALUE capture ,BIBLIOMETRICS - Abstract
Purpose: This paper aims to review and summarize the findings of research dedicated to studying the process of building sustainable business models (BM) triggered by development of COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: Bibliometric analysis is performed to identify the papers most relevant to the topic. The authors review the findings of more than 50 papers from Scopus database published between 2020 and 2022 dedicated to studying BM during COVID-19 pandemic, as well as papers dedicated to sustainability phenomenon and most cited BM research. Findings: The paper identifies the gap in defining BM sustainability and contributes to better understanding of this phenomenon by demarcating it from traditional environment-based United Nations agenda. It also describes why network-based approach to BM helps to better address sustainability aspects. The paper demonstrates how representation of a networked BM by three levels of analysis (namely, structure of a BM, interaction mechanism between BM actors and results of their interaction) is organically connected to the key milestones of the value creation process (value definition, value creation, value distribution and value capture) and shows how these three levels can be used to analyze and structure the practical changes proposed in COVID-19-oriented BM. Finally, the paper summarizes key findings of the studies dedicated to BM during the pandemic and structures key insights in relation to building sustainable BM. Research limitations/implications: The results of the paper contribute to developing theory around BM sustainability as well as provide insights for business practitioners on how to adjust BM during the crisis. At the same time, many insights shown in the paper are industry specific, which limits their generalizability, as well as consequences of the pandemic are still not fully clear. Therefore, the authors argue that future research should be primarily focused on developing generalizable measurement frameworks to evaluate the antecedents, process and results of BM adaptation. Originality/value: The paper strengthens theoretical foundations for the research focused on BM sustainability and helps businesses to better manage the adaptation in the fast-changing environment. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are prominent for achieving sustainable mobility in the future. By drawing on extant literature, we propose a conceptual framework and develop hypotheses based on Novelty seeking (NS), Perceived Behavior Control (PBC), Openness to new Experience (ONE), Risk appetite (RA), and Adoption Intention (AI) of consumers in ABMs. The analysis of data reveals that both NS and PBC are positively related to the ONE which, in turn, impacts the AI of EVs in ABMs in a significantly positive manner. The study also proves that RA moderates the relationship between ONE and AI in such a manner that a higher level of RA makes the relationship between ONE and AI stronger. We contribute to the literature on sustainable mobility by exploring the role of psychological factors in determining AI of Indian customers towards EVs in ABMs and the study has important implications for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. BUSINESS planning , *SCIENTIFIC literature , *VALUE chains , *BUSINESS models , *BLOCKCHAINS - Abstract
In today's increasingly competitive and dynamic business environment, the ability to adapt and innovate is the key to long-term success. In this context, well-defined business models not only function as compasses for companies or ventures toward profitability, but they are also tools that allow them to face the complexities of the market. Although frameworks have been proposed to guide the construction of these models, such as the traditional Canvas, a gap has been found in the scientific literature about the integration of this Canvas with industry-specific tools. This lack of integration can limit the effectiveness of business strategies and hinder the ability of companies to make the most of their potential. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to address this gap by adapting a method that allows a deep integration between a tool of the sector, in this case, the various stages of the industrial value chain with the blocks of the traditional Canvas model. To this end, the cross-analysis method was adapted, which eased the generation of a practical guide for the creation of business models that not only consider the intrinsic characteristics of the business but also the particularities of the industry in which they use. This guidance was applied to a venture focused on the commercialization of bio packaging made from cocoa waste and the results revealed key symbiotic relationships between the value proposition and all links in the industrial value chain, as well as the tactical integration of strategic collaborations at multiple stages of the value chain to ensure the operational viability of the business. It was also found that this integration can offer valuable insights for strategic planning and business strategy formulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the energy market, we observe a dynamic development of innovative business models that take into account various aspects related to the direction of zero-emission economic growth. Companies are intensifying their efforts in utilizing renewable energy sources, implementing significant photovoltaic projects, and advancing technologies related to wind and hydrodynamic energy. Within this trend, microgrids become a crucial element, enabling efficient management of local energy sources. Contemporary energy companies also focus on innovative digital technologies, harnessing the potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI). These tools allow for precise monitoring and optimization of energy consumption, resulting in increased operational efficiency. The expansion of subscription-based energy services encompasses not only traditional energy deliveries but also new aspects, such as intelligent management of home energy installations or the provision of advisory services on energy conservation. This approach emphasizes the customer as a partner in sustainable energy usage. Hybrid energy models, integrating diverse energy sources, constitute a key element in the transformation of the sector. The combination of photovoltaic, wind, and traditional power plants allows for flexible adaptation to changing conditions and maintains stability in the energy supply. In the face of a changing energy landscape, companies consistently strive for sustainable practices, implementing strategies that not only reduce their carbon footprint but also contribute to improving efficiency, ecology, and the decentralization of the energy system. Adapting to these dynamic changes becomes not only a challenge but also an opportunity to create a more sustainable energy future. The objective of this research is to analyze key business models in the energy market and identify their impact on operational efficiency and market competitiveness. The main results indicate significant improvements in energy management and sustainability through the adoption of these models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
