This research aims to examine secondary and higher secondary students' perceptions about career options related to Art & Design studies. A comparative study approach is conducted between the secondary and higher secondary students who opted for Art & Design and the prospective students of Art & Design. Each data set includes 200 respondents from both types of students, making a data set of 400 respondents. Based on constructionism and symbolic, philosophical assumptions, quantitative research methodology has been induced to complete this research. The data is gathered through structured telephonic interviews to analyze the responses. For this research, a checklist was designed that included the same type of questions from both types of students. The results show that the students, specifically in the context of Pakistan, look forward to being employed in a lavish environment through seeking professional degrees apart from whether the field they are choosing would win their interest. This study recommends researching the institutes where Art & design is not a part of the educational programs to transmit the attention of authorities towards it.

CliNCare is a digital educational game which aims to improve clinical reasoning skills in the delivery of nutrition care of third year dietetic students. From a game art point of view, it was important to decide on the graphical style that would be appealing to users and best support the achievement of the overall aim of the game by providing an authentic learning experience. Photorealism is a common art style applied to contemporary simulation games, however, we wanted to investigate the use of 3D cel-shading and 2D illustration as an alternative, more affordable art style and its ability to provide an engaging and authentic digital learning experience using design-based research principals. This paper discusses the reasoning behind art design choices made in the CliNCare game, presents findings on students feedback of the game fidelity, experience, and usability, as well as draw conclusions on art styles for future digital simulation games.

This paper discusses two pilot projects in Art and design education at the teacher training at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. In the second round of drafts for the new curriculum of Art and design digital knowledge is described as stretching from using simple digital resources to master and shape your own digital products. It is no longer limited to two dimensional visual modelling as previously drafted. This is in our view a new approach in a subject where making, tinkering and designing allows for explorations in both 2D and 3D. Given that we want to encourage the use of the digital together with the use of physical materials, the pilot case studies demonstrate the importance of bringing coding and the material aspects of tinkering, making, and creating into play. The BBC Micro:bit was used to make coding and mechanical control part of projects made with traditional material. Further research and development should be undertaken to bring such practices into classrooms in primary and lower secondary schools.

Machine learning is the most important part of artificial intelligence, and the difference between artificial intelligence and ordinary big data analysis lies in its characteristics of machine learning. It is the only way to promote the development of theory and practice of technology and art in their respective fields to study the dynamic development relationship between technology and art in the specific era background and humanistic environment. Based on the machine learning algorithm, this paper analyzes the influence of artificial intelligence on art design, and demonstrates that the combination of artificial intelligence and art design can provide a more intelligent, stylized and commercialized development path for future art design with the promotion of innovation of ideas and tools. Combining with the development trend of artificial intelligence technology in the future, this paper predicts the future development of artificial intelligence art from the aspects of art content concept, art form and art media, and obtains a series of characteristics of artificial intelligence art in the future, such as micro-art form, strong ethical concept and new art media.

The article is devoted to the study of the basis for determining the methods of design - designing the interiors of the premises of cinemas in the style of postmodernism.The features of postmodernism in this context include humor, a combination of styles, vibrant colors, metaphor. On the basis of the studied data, the features and specific properties of the postmodernism style, the features of its use in the design of movie theater interiors, and the ideas of creating receptions are determined. The analysis used the possibilities of applying some of the three trends within the postmodern movement: marginal modernism; metaphorical, humorous, entertaining, gaming. Of the additional considered: deconstructive; non-authentic, eсlectic; parody. The primitivization of the use of classical forms with the activation of the cinemas indicated on the exterior is noted.The analysis of the premises of cinemas and the style of postmodernism was implemented. Among the mandatory elements there is a need for decoration in the postmodern style of the following movie theater premises: a cash register lobby with ticket rooms, an entrance lobby, a lobby or distribution lobbies, a buffet with utility rooms, sanitary facilities, a demonstration complex, an auditorium and a director’s office. При аналізі використовувалися можливості застосування деяких з тенденцій всередині постмодерністського руху: маргінальний модернізм; метафоричний, гумористичний, розважальний, ігровий. З додаткових розглядалися: деконструктивний; неовернакулярний, еклектичний; пародійний. відзначено примітивізація використання класичних форм з активізацією вказаного на екстер'єрі кінотеатру.Проведено аналіз приміщень кінотеатрів і стилю постмодернізм.Серед обов’язкових приміщень є необхідність оформлення в стилі постмодернізм наступних приміщень кінотеатру: касовий вестибюль з приміщеннями кас, вхідний вестибюль, фойє або розподільні кулуари, буфет з підсобними приміщеннями, санітарні вузли, приміщення демонстраційного комплексу, глядацька зала, кабінет директора. Найбільшої уваги потребує цілісність інтер'єрів глядацькой зали, вхідного вестибюля та фойє. Проведено короткий історіографічний аналіз розвитку кінотеатрів, вимог до їх проектування. Наукова новизна: Визначено основні ідеї прийомів концептуального дизайн-проектування кінотеатру у стилі постмодернізм: гра стилістичними формулами; поєднання реального і умовно ігрового; гіперболізація, ефект спотворення об'єкта; гра з простором; трактування середовищної композиції як сцени; іронічне обігрування традицій, використання іронії другого рівня: ігри іронії, гри над іронією; гра жанровими моделями в певному історичному інтервалі.

The trend of initiating art design carrying wayang as the theme, is an attempt initiated by young generation that is worth-appreciated. However, the process of at design-making itself mostly does not genuinely pay attention to the essentials that each wayang figure has. Omitting or replacing one of the elements of Wayang Purwa could possibly change the values of wayang itself. This study is conducted to arrange a representative figure of Wayang Purwa, which is, Pandawa gagrak Surakarta as the principle of the design making without excluding the meanings and identities of the character. The method used in this study is qualitative, obtained from various references, such as; books, articles, and journals related to the Pandawa gagrak Surakarta figure, and interview with Bambang Suwarno, as a puppeteer as well as a leather wayang crafter. The result of this research is a reference of the Pandawa Lima and Gatotkaca figures design, as mostly used in various media.

In the context of current debates on access and participation in the visual arts, the nature of art discourse and the value of creative subjects within the curriculum, what impact do the existing requirements have on students, teachers and the broader arena of the visual arts? This article presents the findings-to-date of an ongoing pilot study which set out to explore these questions. Drawing on interviews with teachers and exam board representatives, and a review of student texts and exam board documents and resources, the study found that even though writing is only a minor part of what is an essentially practice-based subject, it was a source of significant concern and confusion. A marked disconnect was revealed between intent and practice, which in turn highlighted a series of underlying values and beliefs that seemed to further drive this disconnect. The study calls for a wider discussion of the way writing is framed, used, supported and assessed in the art & design classroom, and the need to ensure that any pedagogy and resources developed align with the values as well as curriculum of art & design. It also previews how strategies created in the context of developing more inclusive and flexible writing skills among curators and other art museum professionals may offer a useful model. The study is part of a larger investigation into the discourse/s of the visual arts, with a focus on issues of access and participation.

This article emphasizes approaches to design which are centered on democratic and disruptive practices. By focusing on artists and designers who embrace a critical edge of the discipline, it begins describinga few themes explored in the symposium Matters of Art & Design Education (MADE), at the Pennsylvania State University, and examines some of the theoretical horizons they point to. In the second part of the article, the author interviews the artist and designer Carlos Rosas, who helped develop, and is currently the Professsor in Charge of the IDS—Interdisciplinary Digital Studio program, a Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program in the School of Visual Arts, at that prestigious research University. Este artigo enfatiza abordagens de design centradas em práticas democráticas e disruptivas. Ao concentrar-se em artistas e designers que adotam uma linha crítica da disciplina, começa a descrever alguns temas explorados no simpósio Matérias de Educação em Arte e Design (MADE), na Pennsylvania State University, e examina alguns dos horizontes teóricos que eles apontam. Taking the art design discipline of Wuhan Polytechnic University as an example, this paper discussed several key issues of the connotative development of the discipline under the background of "Double First-Class" strategy in the new era. It pointed out the importance of discipline development concept, faculty construction, talent cultivation quality and characteristic development direction in the art design discipline construction focusing on high-quality development. Through case analysis, comparison of key quality indicators, third-party big data evaluation and other methods, explored the new model of local colleges and universities discipline development in the new era. In order to solve the declining influence of traditional cultural symbols, the research on traditional cultural symbols has become more meaningful. This article aims to study the application of traditional cultural symbols in art design under the background of artificial intelligence. In this paper, a fractal model with self-combined nonlinear function changes is constructed. By combining nonlinear transformations and multiparameter adjustments, various types of fractal models can be automatically rendered. The convolutional neural network algorithm is used to extract the characteristics of the style picture, and it is compared with the trained picture many times to avoid the problem of excessive tendency of the image with improper weight. The improved L-BFGS algorithm is also used to optimize the loss of the traditional L-BFGS, which improves the quality of the generated pictures and reduces the noise of the chessboard. The experimental results in this paper show that the improved L-BFGS algorithm has the least loss and the shortest time in the time used for more than 500 s. Compared with the traditional AdaGrad method, its loss is reduced by about 62%; compared with the traditional AdaDelta method, its loss is reduced by 46%. Its loss is reduced by about 8% compared with the newly optimized Adam method, which is a great improvement.

The whole process of guiding the landscape design in industry has a clear direction to promote the optimization and perfection of the environment in my country's urban industry.

It is considered that only on the basis of studio teaching and by grasping the relevance of design specialty, forming a scalable and permeable platform, improving the teaching quality and enhancing the service consciousness of students' art design, can we better adapt to the current industry demand of art design education under the background of digital innovative design technology.

The purpose of teaching is to improve students’ enthusiasm, participation and ability training, and the rational use of technology in virtual reality teaching will produce good teaching effect. In the future, virtual reality technology will become the most critical technology in the field of teaching. The teaching of art design major needs students’ ability to analyze three-dimensional space, and the application of virtual reality technology can greatly meet the requirements of cultivating this ability in art design teaching. Under the multi-perception, interaction and simulation of virtual reality technology, virtual reality technology can make people have the “super ability” of participating and controlling events, and put forward the application of virtual reality technology in the cultivation of practical ability of art design specialty in colleges and universities. According to survey data, the number of virtual reality technology users increased from 520000 in 2015 to 4.999 million in 2017, an increase of 4.479 million in three years.

In this paper, aiming at the problems existing in the cultivation of art design professionals and the needs of modern enterprises for visual communication professionals, the “three-in-one” practical teaching training mode based on the concept of OBE is introduced. The article presents the analysis of the new book of the famous bibliophile, researcher and populariser of rare books and bibliophilism, the Chairman of the National Union of Bibliophiles M.V. Seslavinsky about the history of creation, specific aspects of publishing and art design of the famous bibliophilic edition “Cantata” by A.A. Sidorov (Moscow, 1921). Comic verses of the future famous bibliologist and art critic, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR became the text for the first edition of the Russian society of the friends of books (1920—1929), the largest Association of booklovers of the 1920s. Two small runs totalled only 20 copies. The study is based primarily on the copies of “Cantata” preserved in the state collections (the Russian State Library, the State Tretyakov Gallery) and private collections, including the M.V. Seslavinsky’s one. The discovery of new documents on the history of the publication allowed restoring the list of owners of the autographed copies. Using the copy-by-copy method, the researcher succeeded in describing the numerous design options of the rarity of bibliophile publishing. The use of art-historical methods allowed to finally establish that the prototype for the image on the engraving “Bibliophile in 1920” (artist N.B. Baklanov, engraver I.N. Pavlov) was A.N. Benoit, the famous painter. The author introduces into circulation the handwritten poetic epistles of A.A. Sidorov to the owners of the autographed copies and other unique materials about preparation for printing, distribution and provenance of “Cantata”. In general, it can be concluded that M.V. Seslavinsky’s approaches to the analysis of “Cantata” can become basic in the study of bibliophile book as a special cultural phenomenon and trend in book publishing.

This article discusses the critical and complex design decisions associated with transitioning an interviewer-administered survey to a self-administered, postal, web/paper survey. Our approach embeds adaptive, responsive, and tailored (ART) design principles and data visualization during a multi-phased data collection operation to project the outcomes of each phase in preparation for subsequent phases. This requires rapid decision making based upon experimental results using a data visualization system to monitor critical-to-quality (CTQ) metrics and facilitate projections of outcomes from the current phase of data collection to inform the design of the subsequent phase. We describe the objectives of the overall design, the features designed to address these objectives, components of the visual adaptive total design (ATD) system for monitoring quality components and relative costs in real time, and examples of the visualization elements and functionalities that were used in one case study. We also discuss subsequent initiatives to develop an interactive version of the monitoring tool and applications for other studies, including those employing adaptive, responsive, and tailored (ART) designs. Our case study is a series of pilot studies conducted for the Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS), sponsored by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Decorative patterns are significant parts of people’s living space and important components on the surfaces of the daily necessities used in people’s everyday lives. They came into being and developed along with the human civilization. And they are still playing an active part in today’s social life. With the innovation and development of science and technology, parametric technology has become a valuable solution in art design and greatly influenced the design fields of architecture and landscape architecture. However, the designs of decorative patterns still rely on the old-fashioned manual designs of the designers, which give rise to the common problem of low innovation efficiency. In the new era of intelligent technology, parametric technology makes it possible for the designers of decorative patterns to improve their working efficiency and provide visual innovation. The experiment mentioned in this paper is a significant attempt for that goal.

Conceptual knowledge and applied skill have always been two contradictory aspects of teaching art design. How to balance the relation between them is an often new topic in design teaching. Colleges should encourage students to explore and think deeply in conceptual subjects, which will greatly benefit students’ development of creativity and comprehensive ability. Based on conceptual teaching, this thesis will try to explain how to combine traditional teaching with conceptual teaching together to provide a reference for classroom teaching and conceptual teaching of art design courses.

Bauhaus, founded in 1919 laid the foundation for modern design education, now is the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Bauhaus school of design. After a century of social development process, the spirit of the Bauhaus and design education concept have become the symbol of pioneer and free exploration of design. However, in the era of rapid development of science and technology and the coexistence of diverse cultures, the education of art design must keep pace with the times. It is necessary to express reasonably the cultural value in the design practice and give consideration to the interdisciplinary characteristics of art design major. Therefore, it is imperative to set up a scientific and reasonable training system for postgraduates' practical ability and establish a corresponding system evaluation standard for postgraduates' education.

The main content of this paper is the curriculum design and development of Moodle platform and its environment. It also provides a detailed description of applying the various modules and resources of Moodle platform. The research explores the construction of the open source network teaching platform, constructs an example of online learning platform, and establishes a platform-based network course "The Basis of Art Design", according to the principles of online curriculum design and the requirements of teachers' educational technology literacy. Finally, the online learning platform is applied to teaching, and a questionnaire survey is conducted among students, aiming at the reflected questions. In the design of the system, based on the needs of specific courses, the functional modules of Moodle platform are redeveloped. To meet the specific curriculum requirements of the system, we also improve the application of the system in practical teaching activities, and complete the effective design of the system.

Gear art has a long history of evolution as gears have been used by human beings for many centuries. At the beginning, gears were produced by smart handicrafts without any theoretical analysis of the gear design. Therefore, the origin of gear art is associated with the manufacture of gears. Practical men were able by various empirical means to get gears adequate for their needs, at least until early nineteenth century, when the mathematician's work was translated into practical language. Neither special methods of cutting the gear teeth, nor the gear-cutting tools of a special design were necessary to manufacture wooden gears used in ancient gear transmissions. At that time, smart craftsmen were governed solely by common sense and by previously accumulated experience when designing and making wooden gears and gear trains. The history of gear-cutting mechanisms, as well as of gear-cutting tools, begins in the early sixteenth century, and may be even associated with some of Leonardo da Vinci's drawing.

With the continuous improvement of the economic level, people pay more and more attention to the appreciation of art. Art of flower arranging is an art following certain laws of creation and it has a long history. At present, the flower shape depends mainly on the arrangements’ experience and personal preferences. This paper attempts to use genetic algorithm optimized by the K-medoids algorithm for its research, through the replacement of the genetic algorithm to get more design solutions, so as to broaden the designer's ideas, to achieve the innovation of art design. Experiments show that the beauty of floral works produced by the optimized genetic algorithm is better than that produced by traditional genetic algorithm.

The aim of this study is to contribute to the idea of creative design by presenting nail art designs in which neo pop art converges with nail art techniques. For this purpose, this study analysed the artistic worlds of Jean Michel Basquiat and Takashi Murakami as representative artists of neo pop art and used examples of their art as motivation based on Internet data and relevant books. Also this study analysed the concept and expressive techniques used in nail art, and for the nail art techniques of: hand painting, see-through, etching, nail patches, 3D, and airbrushing in order to create six nail art designs using artistic works by three artists as motivation. Based on this, this study presented creative and unique nail designs with artistic works by neo pop artists as motivation. It is hoped that this study will contribute to further use of characteristic and diverse nail designs and is helpful in promoting the capability of nail artists and activate the nail art scene. It is expected that research on nail art design will be expanded and developed through convergence with diverse design areas in the future.

The article considers the activities of one of the largest and most prolific private publishers of children’s literature in the 1920s. Trying to revise a biased evaluation, rooted in bibliology of the Soviet period, the author analyzes the composition of writers and illustrators, collaborated with the publishing company of G.F. Mirimanov, the thematic diversity of published books, peculiarities of their art design and printing realization.

The development of urban culture is synchronized with marine culture, and urban culture of coastal cities is more or less mixed, with some marine cultural elements. This study attempts to explore the overall design of public space art in coastal cities from the perspective of marine culture look deeply into the relationship between the artistic design of urban public space and marine culture and urban image building. The research results show that both the urban culture and marine culture have the characteristics of agglomeration, diversity, regionality, and radiation; the design of public art is an important factor in the design of urban image, and the design concepts of public space sculptures in coastal cities are closely related to marine culture; the public art system is a system with a sequence and hierarchical relationship; the design of art forms not only depends on their own artistic value but also echoes the surrounding cultural ideas. This study provides a theoretical basis for the rapid integration of marine and urban cultures.
