SOCIAL services , *TRANS women , *TRANSGENDER people , *SOCIAL impact , *PROFESSIONAL employee training , *LABOR market - Abstract
Transgender people are a socially discriminated group, which affects other spheres of life, such as work. This has a negative impact on their social, family and community relationships, and on their emotional and motivational well-being. This study analyses the social interventions developed in Portugal with trans people in order to learn about professional processes, present problems and establish future proposals. For this purpose, a qualitative approach, a descriptive design and semi)structured interviews are used for data collection, using a purposive sampling. The sample was composed of three professionals from specialized entities. The results indicate that public-facing work is the one that generates the most discrimination, with trans women standing out for manifesting a lower level of cispassing. For this and other problems, business awareness is highlighted as one of the main proposals, together with the development of equality plans and the implementation of anti-discrimination clauses as employment measures with a great impact on labor market insertion. The employment problems faced by transgender people are a global problem present at multiple levels, which challenges social intervention and urges it to respond to the demands expressed. This text explores the fit of the theoretical theses of gender identity in the constitutional framework, understood as both the Spanish legal-positive framework and that of Western liberal democracies, established after World War II. To this end, the contribution has been divided into three sections. In the first place, an attempt is made to clear up the key concepts that are going to be handled throughout the article, notably four: human dignity, vulnerability, sex/gender and sexual identity/gender identity. Secondly, it offers a review of the main normative and jurisprudential milestones that have had to respond to the gender identity challenge, an issue with some growth in importance in the most recent constitutional jurisprudence, in its «gender perspective» aspect. Thirdly, the reader is offered some arguments that could act as a counterweight to the worst drifts manifested by the gender identity thesis. Finally, some conclusions are drawn around an in-depth reflection on the findings resulting from the investigation, submitted, of course, to the best doctrinal opinion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TRANSGENDER people , *YOUNG adults , *ETHNOLOGY research , *MENTAL depression , *HUMAN sexuality , *TRANSSEXUALS , *GENDER , *PLEASURE , *GENDER identity , *MASCULINITY , *TRANSGENDER identity - Abstract
The pathologization of transsexuality and the rhetoric of the "wrong body" associated with it, within the framework of a dichotomous and hierarchicalsex / gendersystem, have strongly conditioned the way in which people who identify as trans (transsexual, transgender) think about themselves and guide their bodily practices and their sexualities. However, despite the normative restrictions of the surgical model of transsexuality continue to mark the lives of many young transgender people, when we approach their sex-affective narratives, emancipatory ways of inhabiting sexuality, corporality and desire emerge. These are experiences that call into question the inevitability of dysphoria; that challenge the hegemonic patterns of construction of (hetero)sexuality and gender, especially of masculinity; and that deny the presumption of undesirability that is often attributed to trans bodies. The discourses that are analyzed in this article come from interviews with young transgender people in the framework of an ethnographic research carried out in Spain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TELEVISION series , *TRANSGENDER people , *STREAMING video & television , *SPANIARDS , *MASCULINITY , *TELEVISION programs , *HEGEMONY , *SOCIAL classes - Abstract
In this paper/essay, the representations of trans people in Spanish series both on television and on streaming platforms will be analyzed, paying special attention to the new forms of masculinities, referred to as dissidents. From the pioneer Farmacia de Guardia to much more recent series such as Vis a Vis or Todo lo otro, there will be an analysis of the main characteristics of the trans characters (age, sex, social class, etc.), the reactions that they spark around them (acceptance, rejection, ignorance), as well as the story offered about transsexuality (if it is seen as a pathology, if there is a desire to change one’s physical appearance through hormones and/ or surgery, if the conception of having been born in the wrong body persists, etc.). It will be seen how this representation intersects and questions hegemonic masculinity. Finally, it will be observed how transsexuality is becoming progressively more visible in Spanish series, helping its normalization through different characters who bring this reality closer to the public, although not always in an inclusive way [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GENDER , *GAY rights , *TRANSSEXUALS , *HOMOSEXUALITY , *GAY people - Abstract
Though homosexuality is no longer considered a psychopathology, in many countries it is still considered a crime and punishments include even the death penalty. As gay rights progressed, so did ultraconservatism, which is accompanied by violence. According to Freud, homosexuality is as enigmatic as heterosexuality, but the belief in sexual complementarity -- unattainable according to psychoanalysis -- is perhaps a factor that leads many transsexuals to seek to harmonize sex and gender. They identify themselves as homosexuals in the first place, before identifying as transsexuals and their discourses reveal that adequation of the transsexual body may be in line with the cultural and homophobia internalized by homosexuals. Could the transsexual demand to match body and soul be a surreptitious attempt to deny homosexuality in contemporary times? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TRANSSEXUALS , *LAW reform , *GENDER , *CONSTITUTIONAL amendments , *LEGAL research , *SOCIAL stigma - Abstract
Current research analyzes the legislation and jurisprudential system with regard to requirements applied to transsexual people due to the differentiation in female and male genders for the concession of retirement, following the Constitution Amendment 103/2019, within the Brazilian retirement law reform. Research was undertaken through hypothetical and deductive methodology and bibliographic research on the law, administrative decisions, jurisprudence and specialized doctrine on the theme. Results show the need to give greater attention to the theme since the previdenciary system is insufficient to take off the stigma of law omissions so that transsexual people could have their rights guaranteed, without bias, with greater visibility and representativity in social issues. TRANSGENDER people in motion pictures , *TRANSSEXUALS , *GENDER dysphoria , *DISCOURSE analysis , *INTERPERSONAL relations - Abstract
The goal of this research was to highlight the effects of the sense on the transe-sexuality in some contemporary movie productions, specifically in: Ma vie en rose, Tomboy and The Danish girl. The movies were analyzed within the theoretical framework of Michel Pêcheux's Discourse Analysis. The main outcomes emphasize on the tension created between the medical and the humanitarian discourses, the main characters' gender performances promoting repetitions of the traditional senses, the reinforcement of the typical binaryroles, and the emphasis on the heterosexual matrix in performing the characters' sexual orientation. Besides, it is marked the predominance of an inclusive-discourse composition aimed at sensitizing the cinema goers by portraying the transsexual people's difficulties and sufferings in their social relationships. It is concluded that these movies are important mechanisms of production and reproduction of gender technologies within the marginalized population, and at the same time they show their own conflicts and reinforce the social regulations. Abstract Transmasculine identities have gained social and academic visibility in Brazil since 2010, but subjective issues, especially those associated with affective relationships, are still little discussed. This qualitative study sought to identify trans men’s perceptions and expectations regarding post-transition affective-sexual relationships. A total of 15 transsexual men undergoing hormone therapy, aged between 20 and 41 years, participated in the research. Data were collected by means of in-person and online semi-structured interviews and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis, which resulted in two analytical themes. Results show that trans men, differently from their initial expectations, perceive fewer opportunities for affective-sexual relationships after their gender transition. The participants attribute this difficulty, especially, to the fact that they have not undergone sexual reassignment surgery. Discomfort isaccentuated by their bodily materiality diverging from cisnormativity, the regulatory system that associates people belonging to the male gender with the presence of a penis. Another source of discomfort is the social repudiation, which reinforces the abjection, exoticization, and fetishization of transmasculine bodies. The specifics of trans men’s relationships with cisgender, heterosexual, and lesbian women are also described. The results show that the persistent fixation on the genital, as a referent and determinant sign of gender and sexuality, modulates and regulates the search for and encounter of intimate partners.

GENDER , *SEXUAL diversity , *GENDER studies , *GENDER identity , *VIOLENCE , *PINK - Abstract
In this article I discuss female transsexualism in childhood. I use the film My Life in Pink (BERLINER, 1997) and the documentary My Secret Self (GOLDBERG, 2007) as objects of analysis, trying to relate them to the current debate on the Ideology of Gender. My interest, then, focuses on the central ideas of the two productions, namely: the transition from male to female gender, the pathologization and depatologization of trans identities, the relations between anatomical sex and gender identity, symbolic violence, cisheteronormativity and adultcentrism. To make this debate, I turn to John Thompson's (2009) reflections on mass communication and symbolic violence, gender studies and sexual diversity, as well as to poststructuralist studies, especially Michel Foucault's work. This theoretical-reflexive study proposes to explore transmasculinity from Paul B. Preciado’s theory. It is based on the approach of the conceptions of identity that go through this epistemology and its repercussions in the category gender. The development of transmasculine identities passes through dehydentification with the cisheteronormativity for subsequent identification as male subjects, often based on the plastic-protective effects of synthetic hormone consumption, which allow them to externalize their subjectivities and male identities from the modifications of body shape and its social recognition and validation as such.

- Abstract
The World Health Organization and the American Psychological Association consider transsexuality a pathology and suggest sex-gender reassignment for the biopsychic adjustment of trans people. Through the discursive analysis of experience, this study describes the processes of medicalization and gender performativity in relation to the health of a group of trans women from Mexico City. For this purpose, a qualitative study was conducted in which 10 semi-structured interviews were carried out in 2015. As part of medicalization, the pathologization of transsexuality generated psychic suffering; on the other hand, sex-gender reassignment also entailed additional risks. It is possible to conclude that in trans women, violence and exclusion constitute the primary experiences explaining their foremost health problems. Therefore, it is suggested that it is necessary for discrimination be reduced and for advancements to be made in safer medical interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present investigation work analyzes the Judgment that solved the unconstitutionality question raised by the Supreme Court to the Constitutional Court of Spain in relation to art. 1 of Law 3/2007, of March 15. Said legal system exclusively reserves the change of sex and name to transgender persons of legal age, producing a legal gap by not considering the assumption of sex change for those transsexual minors with sufficient maturity and a firm transsexuality situation, violating their autonomous morality and the free development of his personality.

In this Final Degree project, an investigation has been carried out to study child transsexuality and its proposals for intervention in the educational context. For this, a brief clarification of key terms related to transsexuality has been made, as well as a review of the concept and its evolution in history. In the same way, the importance of the educational and family context has been analyzed as the main focus in the personal development of minors. The methodology used has been based on in-depth interviews with different education professionals. These interviews have shown that gender identities are not worked on in the classroom as one more point in the infant curriculum. In addition, transsexuality is not conceived at such early ages. In conclusion, both preschool students and education staff have a lack of information on gender identity issues.

Abstract In this article we intend to show how the relationship between Agnes and the American sociologist Harold Garfinkel produced a gender analysis that differed from the biological theories of its time. Through the concept of passing and the ethnomethodology’s notion of routine the author anticipates certain assumptions that would guide the notion of gender that would develop in the 1990s. In the first part of the text, our focus will be on impacts of Agnes’ experience for ethnomethodology; in a second step, we will provoke a dialogue between Garfinkel and Judith Butler’s theory of performativity. - Abstract
transsexuality has occupied different scenarios within psychological theories. Different treatments and theories had emerged in clinical approaches raising the question about what psychotherapists think about transsexuals regarding their professional field. This article presents some findings of a research conducted in Venezuela, whose objective was to understand the meaning of transsexuality for psychotherapists, highlighting their opinions about depathologization, their experience in treatment and the implications this may have for themselves. During the investigation, the relevance of the social context - which will be discussed in this paper-as a mediator for the psychotherapeutic understanding of this condition proved to play an important role. Concepts such as gender, pathologization, and depathologization were located as key elements within the discussion. In-depth interviews were carried out to a sample of psychotherapists and subsequently were analyzed through constant comparative method under a 'constructionist' paradigm. Among the relevant conclusions, we found the rigidity of the dichotomic concept of gender as a barrier for welcoming sexual diversity, the stigmatization as the main problem for the depathologization, and the relevance of 'the different' as pathologizing criterion. vance of «the different» as pathologizing criterion. Abstract This article aims to describe and analyze interactive practices that emerge in the context of psychotherapy in a clinical center specialized in gender and sexuality. The material under analysis consists of an appointment between a psychiatrist and a transsexual woman, which was select from a research corpus of five appointments videorecorded by the center. We conducted a microethnographic analysis based on the Conversation Analysis theoretical and methodological framework. We observed two interactional practices that emerge in a recurrent manner: formulation and accountability. Such practices are in service of the accomplishment of an institutional task: the (co)production of a psychiatric report that certifies the client’s transsexuality from a nosological matrix. Our analysis points out that DSM-5 and ICD-11 are devices that, in the clinical care for transsexual people, limit the autonomy of both therapist and client, as well as consolidate apparatuses that maintain cisnormativity as a rule.

This study is aimed at analyzing some intrinsic elements in the transgender experience in order to reflect on the possibility of depathologization and the recognition of the trans-autonomy. From the historical analyses of the constitution of the sexual discourse, it can be perceived that the cisgender norm, culminated with the establishment of the psychiatric knowledge and, consequently, with the pathologization of some behavioral experiences. In this perspective, although the association between the diagnosis of the transsexuality has made viable the institutionalization of the debate and the health access; we must problematize the complexity involved in understanding the trans experience as a disease and the non-recognition of the trans-autonomy. Abstract: This article aims to show some ethnographic reflexes about two anthropological research fields. The objective is to demonstrate how machismo and LGBTphobic structures are experienced by women and by LGBTQI+ people during a football practice. We know that sports, especially football, are considered privileged fields in which exist the production and reiteration of normative expressions of masculinity. Thereat cisgender and heterosexual men are considered their practitioner and natural interlocutor. As a result, machismo and LGBTphobia are structural issues in the football field. Women and LGBTQI+ people are still questioned about their presence in this sport and are also recurrent depreciated. - Abstract
This work has as aim analyzing the process of construction of identities of gender and sexual orientation of two professors who self-defined themselves as transsexual. Thereunto, a qualitative research was performed by means of a solid interview with a semi-structured guide. In their own synthesis, the interviewed have explained, in meaning of transsexuality, similarities and differences between themselves, in a process of construction from: references in the media (television or cinema), from experiences with Medicine and Psychology, and from the participation in social movements. Whether the process of reflection on the identity seems to be changeable, continuous and unfinished, the heteronormative role has been a constant in school environments, with all the traps in it, this context becomes the continuity of studies a daily struggle faced by transsexual subjects. This work is an analytical investigation about the affective-sexual experiences of non-trans-genitalized heterosexual transvestite and trans women. The trans thematic has been investigated for some time in terms of medical, psychological, social and legal aspects, however, the field of affection, of affectivity, is usually overlooked. They forget that, just like cisgender people, transvestite and trans people also feel affection, and more importantly, they also need to receive affection in return. For this reason, this field is being explored and that is a starting point for many academic productions on trans affectivity, on sexual relations that are often without affection, recognition, dignity or citizenship. For this, an investigation has been carried out with semi-structured interviews that will later be categorized and analyzed using the Thematic Analysis and the Social Research of Gomes (2016). An auto-ethnographic work based on Vergueiro (2015), hooks (1994), Smith (2005) and Andalzúa & Moraga (1983) has also beeen done. Self-ethnography was chosen, because I am also a non-trans-genitalized heterosexual trans woman and, in this way, a comparative analysis of the affective-sexual experiences of these trans women with mine own was carried out, a comparative analysis of ourselves and that we can manage (I use the first person of the plural "us", because it is a partnership work, a collective struggle for rights, dignity, respect, life), after analyzing the results to, collectively, think about public policies to fight machismo, sexism, misogyny, abuse, oppression, utilitarianism and transphobia. This work is not only academic, it is a manifesto of political resistance and resilience, that is, a voice in defense of an entire community so vilified, tortured, murdered, seen as an inhuman aberration, of 'unintelligible bodies', only relegated to the field of the abject.

Abstract This article deals with the discourses produced by the Argentine medical field relating to body transformation initiatives on the part of transvestites and transsexuals in Argentina from 1971-1982. Based on the compilation and analysis of a set of articles published in academic medical journals, it examines the meanings that health professionals assigned to these initiatives prior to the legal rulings and national legislation that recognized gender identity as a human right. This analysis helps identify the particular features of those body transformation initiatives during the period studied, as well as the ways in which the medical field in Argentina attached moral, technical and professional meanings to them.

This paper addresses trans from an athropological persepective. It focusses particularly on transsexuality as a specific variant, or gender mainstreaming, aiming to contribute elements for understanding in relation to the order of gender in line with the contemporary medico-legal system. It analyzes the difficult relationships of transsexualism with certain sectors of the feminist movement, along with the inherent paradoxes when aiming to construct a specific transsexual identity. Finally, we dedicate some space to anthropolgical trans research, as well as its limits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper concepts and theories related to gender identity are reviewed. We subsequently discuss different approaches to treatment and conception of what's known as Gender Indentity Disorders. In Catalina de Erauso's story "La historia de la monja alférez," written by herself, Catalina de Erauso recounts her adventures as a man, her later confession of being a woman and virgin, her pension from the king, and even the Pope's legitimization of her dressing as a man. The author examines this text in terms of its contribution and resistance to the construction of gender in Spain and the Spanish American colonies in the early 17th century. The transatlantic voyages open a space in which the figure of Catalina de Erauso transits from one gender category to another. With an emphasis on the prefix 'trans', reading the text through the lens of the 'transsexual' narrative creates new borders and limits, and accentuates the text as a site of struggle over gender identity. The 'transsexual' narrative can help us see the text not only as a site of transition and combination of social categories, but also for interrupting the binary structure of sex and gender that appears so natural today.
