The Nachwuchs Reaktionstechnik (NaWuReT) is an organization of early‐career chemical engineers of the DECHEMA/VDI subject division Reaction Engineering. In the spring of 2023, we organized a series of online lectures involving five invited speakers from industry to shed light on different career opportunities. This article is a summary of the 10th International Conference on Inverse Problems in Engineering (ICIPE 22), which took place in May 2022 in Francavilla al Mare, Italy. This article explores via the concept of professional jurisdiction how engineers shape and maintain authority in practice, and points to the important role of specific professional documents in this practice. Drawing on the sociology of conventions, the article shows how the documents work as standardized and 'invested' forms that help professional actors coordinate internally in the profession, as well as compromise, maintain boundaries and forge alliances with actors outside the profession. Empirically, the article analyses historic documents, called writings, from a professional committee under the Danish Society of Engineers, and shows how these documents have helped engineers shape and maintain authority over the Danish field of urban water management. The World Landslide Forum (WLF) is a triennial world conference of scientists, policy makers, professional engineers and practitioners, aiming at international exchange of knowledge, experiences and latest trends in science and engineering development and with focus on landslide risk governance. The WLF1 was organized in 2008 in Tokyo, Japan, followed in 2011 by the WLF2 in Rome, Italy, and in 2014 by the WLF3 in Beijing, China. The WLF4 (4th WLF) will be organised in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2017, and this is the first announcement. The WLF4 has an objective to be a worldwide event for discussing how landslide research and landslide risk reduction can contribute to advancing culture of living with natural hazards. The risk governance in the field of landslide disaster risk reduction and management means to establish an effective bottom-up system incorporating many relevant stakeholders into a risk dialogue, and enhancing risk communication with the aim to build a sustainable system of prevention and disaster relief in the field of landslide disasters risk reduction. The WLF4 will be the first opportunity to evaluate the progress in the implementation of the ISDR-ICL Sendai Partnerships 2015-2025 for Global Promotion of Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk, officially accepted in 2015 at the 3rd United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan. The conference Glass Performance Days is organised every year in China, South America and india, however it is organised only in every second year in Tampere, Finland. The first GPD started in tampere, Finland in 1992. The 15th conference was organised this year. Several foreign participants visited the GPD this year to share their knowledge, to make new contacts and participate in business meetings with their acquaintances. The week-long conference has numerous curiosities and programs, thus every researcher, business man, manufacturer, engineer is able to find their own field of interest. On 25-26 March 2013, 52 early career scientists and engineers, studying various aspects of coastal science, met at the University of Aberdeen for the ninth Young Coastal Scientists and Engineers Conference. The conference was jointly organised by the School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen, and Marine Scotland Science. Early-career scientists, researchers and practitioners presented 23 oral and 17 poster presentations over the 2-day meeting. The papers all had a coastal theme with a large diversity in the subjects covered, including waves, currents, tidal energy, coastal erosion, sediment transport, fluid mechanics and particle tracking. The article reports on a series of gender studies workshops in Dresden, Germany, from November 29-30, 2012. Topics of discussion included the representation of engineers in German science fiction film in the 1930s, the role of women in medieval politics, especially the example of Mary of Burgundy, and West and East German marriage counseling guides in the 1950s and 1960s.

An essay is presented on challenges and opportunities in the engineering disciplines to a successful renewable energy transition. It offers the contours of the "engineering challenge," wherein both engineers and nonengineers differ significantly in conceptualization of the boundaries between "policy" and " engineering." For many years a Women in Engineering Forum was run in conjunction with the Australasian Association for Engineering Education conference, but in recent years "women in engineering" has fallen off the radar to a large degree. There is a widespread perception that the issues of concern for women have been addressed, and that women are now incorporated into the mainstream of engineering education and the engineering profession. Yet Australia and other western countries still have participation rates for women in engineering education that are lower than any other field of education and that have stagnated or declined for the last decade. This paper reviews a range of recent data and studies to examine the current picture of women in engineering education: the statistics, student experience and faculty issues.
