The 2022 ASMC, our 33rd, returned to Saratoga Springs, NY as an in-person conference after 2 years as a virtual conference. While we are all grateful for the digital world’s enhancements that allowed this conference to be held remotely, attendees were happy to return to an in-person event where networking is much easier. The author mentions that the differences he provoked is in the research presentation on social justice issue orientation and in music education. He notes that they also differs in quotes on justice as the NYC conference projects positive meaning by employing better social order, while the Toronto conference declares justice in negative by stating that it is not a charity. He cites that his arguments were based on collective action that involves disagreement, dissensus, and multiplicity.

This paper was presented in a special session in the American Anthropology Association's 108th Annual Meeting in December 2009 in honor of Dr. Antonio Lauria-Perricelli. It is a research study that explored how a moral panic discourse in the 1970s shaped a public perception of the lower Bronx in New York City, and it examined how media stereotypes of blighted neighborhoods in the Bronx were reworked in social actors' perceptions of local poverty, race, and crime. The Bronx' mediated reputation was analyzed in the context of recent reforms in community policing. These reforms influenced a local discourse on social control and city authority that was infused with media stereotypes of Bronx residents. Topics include the librettos of poet Mariane von Ziegler, new research in the music library of Luise Adelgunde Gottsched and a theological interpretation on the seventeenth century Song of Songs. The aim of the project is to support young, low-income, inner-city families by intervening in the cycles of destructive parent-child relations and poor mother-infant attachment that often lead to despair and abuse.
