Abstract

The article presents the author's views on the differences in presentations regarding the issues of equity and social justice in music education on the two conferences held at University of Toronto, Ontario in January 2008, and at Columbia University's Teachers College, New York City (NYC) in October 2006. The author mentions that the differences he provoked is in the research presentation on social justice issue orientation and in music education. He notes that they also differs in quotes on justice as the NYC conference projects positive meaning by employing better social order, while the Toronto conference declares justice in negative by stating that it is not a charity. He cites that his arguments were based on collective action that involves disagreement, dissensus, and multiplicity.
