In this letter, we report a two-in-one acoustic wave resonator with Rayleigh and Lamb modes for temperature decoupled viscosity-density product sensing. The Lamb mode of the resonator is sensitive to both the viscosity-density product and the ambient temperature, while the Rayleigh mode only responds to the ambient temperature and is not affected by liquid properties. These unique characteristics of the two modes are due to the different spatial distributions of the acoustic energy. Taking advantage of the aforementioned features, a beat frequency strategy is proposed to decouple the temperature influence from the viscosity-density product measurement, thus realizing temperature independent viscosity-density product sensing in a single acoustic wave resonator chip. Experimental results show that the accurate measurement of the viscosity-density product can be achieved in Newtonian liquids with a sensitivity of −0.36 MHz/kg m−2 s−0.5 within a wide temperature range from 20 °C to 80 °C. Our work holds great promise for liquid property measurement occasions with large fluctuations in ambient temperature, such as oil and gas exploration, automobile, and aeronautic applications. A low-voltage low-power Sigma-Delta modulator for health monitoring system is designed using a standard 0.18m CMOS technology. To achieve high accuracy with low power consumption in low supply voltage environment, the designed modulator is implemented with a one-bit third-order topology, in which the input-feedforward structure and switched-opamp (SO) technique are combined. Using the proposed design method, the SO meets the system requirements with the minimal power consumption and good stability in a feedback loop. The modulator achieves 86dB dynamic range (DR) over a 300Hz bandwidth with an oversampling ratio (OSR) of 128, while it occupies 0.16mm2 and consumes 12W under a 1.1V supply. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report the design and analysis of the first vertical magnetic-cored inductors in CMOS backend for radio-frequency (RF) ICs, which includes theoretical and experimental studies of device architecture, equivalent circuit model with parameter extraction technique, process development, and device characterization. Vertical magnetic cores with multiple-layer stacked-spiral structures are designed to realize compact inductive devices in RF ICs. A CMOS-compatible post-CMOS backend process module (CMOS +) and optimized high-permeability nanoparticles are utilized to achieve a high inductance-to-coil-area ratio (L-density) in gigahertz range. The prototype six-layer inductors with NiZnCu ferrite nanoparticles-magnetic-core were fabricated in a commercial foundry 0.18-\mu\m six-metal RF CMOS technology. A high L-density of over 700 \nH/mm^2 to multigigahertz was obtained, with an 80% chip size reduction from the reference planar magnetic inductors. An equivalent circuit model with parameter extraction technique is developed to analyze magnetic enhancement effects. A hybrid translinear (TL) circuit consisting of two kinds of transistors, bipolar and CMOS transistors, was proposed to control its quiescent current. To simplify the analysis and design of the hybrid TL circuit, a new analysis method was introduced, which converted it into an equivalent uniform bipolar TL circuit. The hybrid TL circuit was applied to the output stage of a class AB amplifier designed in 1.5µm BCD (Bipolar-CMOS -DMOS) technology. And simulation results were consistent with expectations well. This letter reports the proof-of-concept results for the new nontraditional nanophase-switching electrostatic-discharge (ESD) protection mechanism and nanocrossbar ESD structures. Experiment shows good ESD switching and protection, i.e., a fast response of 100 ps, a ultralow leakage of 0.26 pA, and an ESD protection of >\267\ \V/\mu\m^2. Abstract: This paper describes a power management chip for wireless powering capsule endoscopy, including over-voltage protection circuit RF limiter, CMOS rectifier and low dropout regulator (LDO). Bulk commutation technique is applied to suppress the substrate leakage current problem of CMOS rectifier. A bandgap circuit used as reference for LDO is optimized carefully and has a more than −50dB PSR at 2MHz, which can effectively suppress the ripple of rectifier output used as input voltage of LDO. It incorporates a voltage controlled current source (VCCS) compensation network to make sure the loop’s stability is not dependent on the output capacitor’s Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR). The proposed chip has implemented in 0.35μm CMOS technology and the measurement results show that it can provide as high as 63.8mA output current at a 3V output voltage. The PMC has been used in a wireless powering system designed for capsule endoscope application. Experiment results show that the Power Management Chip (PMC) can deliver as high as 191mW DC energy to the load, imitating the physical condition in a biomedical environment in a human body.
