Research has been conducted on the octahedral hexanuclear cluster halides of the transition metals. The low temperature solid-state approaches to these compounds carried out via the reduction of TaCl (sub)5 with gallium and gallium dichloride have been investigated and the results are reported.

Research has been conducted on the mono-(CH) (sub)5 XH and skeletally substituted (CH) (sub)4 (XH) (sub)2 benzenes. The molecular orbital theory and the hybrid density functional theory calculations used in investigating these compounds and the computed relative energies of the disubstituted isomers are discussed.

Research has been conducted on the gallium phosphonates, the structures of which depend on their preparation conditions. The isolation of Ga (sub)4 (O (sub)3 PC (sub)2 H (sub)4 PO (sub)3 ) (sub)3 and Ga (sub)2 (OH) (sub)2 ( O (sub)3 PC (sub)2 H (sub)4 PO (sub)3) has been carried out and their structures have been solved via the single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Research has been conducted on the two-coordinate low-valent complexes. The synthesis of [Ge{N(C (sub)6 H (sub)3 -2,6-i-Pr (sub)2)CMe} (sub)2 CH] (super)+ as colorless crystals has been carried out in the presence of water and the results of the NMR and IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography used to characterized the compound are presented.
