‘It was the funnest week in the whole history of funnest weeks’: our case study, the second phase in a three-phase research project, evaluates the successes and limitations of creative teaching and learning during the ‘The Creative and Effective Curriculum’ module for PGCE primary student teachers which includes a one-week placement in school. Student teachers', children's and teachers' perspectives pointed to a range of factors necessary for effective and creative teaching and learning. These included learning which is ‘fun’, achievement through intrinsic motivation, willingness to take risks and learn from mistakes, children's ownership of learning and the teacher's role as facilitator. Our findings enabled us to formulate ‘phunometre scales’ which we suggest can be used to assess both the organisation of learning areas and also planned activities in terms of their capacity for learning which is both challenging and fun. Throughout history humans have dreamed of a better life. This concept of utopia can be used as a central focus for thematic and interdisciplinary instruction. This approach has three key advantages. First, students recognize that certain themes are consistent across time and place and that realization can lead students to explore their own dreams and how those dreams reflect the realities of their own cultures. Second, this thematic approach encourages interdisciplinary connections among economic and social history, literature, geography, and culture. Finally, students critically analyze a wide variety of primary sources, including songs, prose, poetry, and images. This article outlines utopian dreams of everyday working people from the Middle Ages to the present and presents a variety of student activities related to the utopia theme. The article is based on an empirical, interview-based research project investigating resources and barriers to creative teaching within three Danish primary and secondary schools. Project-based learning (PBL) is a highly effective means of motivating students to learn independently. However, training or encouraging teachers to practice PBL in their classrooms is challenging, especially if the educational system does not accommodate creative teaching practices. In particular, in a test-driven educational system, time constraints and an excess of teaching content makes it difficult to practice PBL at the high school level. This work presents a novel team-teaching model that is based on collaboration between subject teachers and the computer teacher to facilitate PBL in the classroom. A two-year experiment was conducted to study the feasibility of the proposed model, in which the school computer teacher conducts PBL with the 10th grade students in the first year, and subject teachers conduct PBL with the 11th grade students in the second year. Experimental results indicate that the proposed model is feasible in the given educational setting. No class time was lost, and the subject teacher successfully conducted PBL activities. Furthermore, a follow-up survey indicated that the students enjoyed the PBL activities in both classes. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

History involves the study of people and the times and places in which they lived. Traditional instruction often is dominated by an emphasis on decontextualized facts, dates, and events. Too often, the study of history becomes lifeless and monotonous because it artificially separates people from the larger context of times and places in which they lived. Teachers can build meaningful contexts in which students experience history by using cultural artifacts as springboards into the study of people who lived in the past. Integrating the use of cultural artifacts, such as photographs, films, and music, allows teachers to create new entry points, new ways for students to connect to, and take ownership of, their learning. This article presents a rationale for including cultural artifacts in the study of history, which can promote a better understanding of the nature of history, personalize history, encourage student inquiry, and endorse the notion that history represents multiple perspectives. Cultural artifacts can be used to enrich instruction of any historical period, at any grade level. Introduction: Active Learning Method (ALM) is a model in which students are active in the class. This aim of this study is to compare stability of information and satisfaction of students in classic method of lecture and active learning method. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 48 medical students (29 females and 19 males) selected through census sampling method and spending their physiopathology courses in Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences. Some sessions from the courses of «respiratory, digestive, and urinary diseases» were selected. Two forms for assessing students' satisfaction were used as pretest and post-test. The stability of information was assessed by 8 essay questions one month after teaching. SPSS software was used for data analysis using descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney and McNemar tests. Results: Fifty six percent of students were generally satisfied with the project implementation. The median for stability assessment exam in classes held using ALM was 5 while it was 3.42 for classes using lecture method which had a significant difference (P=0.00). Conclusion: Active learning method increases information stability in students' mind after the teaching session. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
