Blended learning is increasingly being adopted at all levels of the educational system. It continues to gain primacy in the teaching and learning environment as both students and teachers seek to integrate familiar information communication technology (ICT) into their classroom activities. In a time when electronic devices dominate students' free time, students often stop learning in the summer and instead focus on sedentary indoor activities, like video games and television programs. Sociologists have documented that, for some students, summers result in little learning and contribute to an achievement gap. To help combat 'summer learning loss,' teachers should implement a summer biology project to provide students with hands-on, inquiry experiences promoting science learning. In this article I will discuss the originally German term and concept of Bildung. The reason why I, as a Scandinavian, find such a discussion both interesting and important is that the trend of instrumentalism in modern educational politics and pedagogical thinking (at least in Scandinavian countries) is problematic; that is, looking on knowledge in general and school subjects in particular primarily as tools or means for reaching another goal or end. The discussion of the concept of Bildung has during the history of pedagogical philosophy in my cultural context given--and has still possibilities to give--impulses to fundamental discussions concerning the value and justification of teaching music (and in fact all other school subjects). I focus my discussion on three aspects which are central to the concept of Bildung: cultural heritage (or what could be called a normative aspect of the term culture); 'the journey' as a metaphor; and last but not least a criticism of instrumentalism. The aim of this study is to show the value of developing a Personal Learning Environment (PLE) to create a student's self-determined motivational profile, inspire a greater sense of self-efficacy, and encourage the testing of new learning strategies. After the presentation of concepts, we propose a learning scenario for the design of a PLE model in the form of a mind map. We collect what the students produced and ask them about the usefulness of this type of teaching. We also measure the evolution of psychological dimensions before and after instruction by comparing them to a control group. The results show (1) that few students understood the objectives of the exercise which was focused on the PLE but those who did understand it found it useful, and (2) a there was a significant decrease in observed studied psychological variables in the students who participated in the experiment. Keywords: Personal Learning Environment, pedagogical scenario, self-efficacy, motivation, learning strategies, perceived usefulness of education Notre objectif est de montrer l'interet de la conception d'un Environnement Personnel d'Apprentissage (EPA) pour la creation d'un profil motivationnel autodetermine, d'un meilleur sentiment d'auto-efficacite et l'experimentation de nouvelles strategies d'apprentissage chez les etudiants. Apres la presentation des concepts, nous proposons un scenario pedagogique pour la conception d'un modele d'EPA sous la forme d'une carte mentale. Nous recoltons les productions des etudiants et interrogeons ces derniers sur l'utilite qu'ils percoivent de cet enseignement. Nous mesurons egalement l'evolution des dimensions psychologiques avant et apres l'enseignement en les comparant a un groupe temoin. Les resultats montrent que peu d'etudiants comprennent les objectifs du travail pedagogique centre sur l'EPA, mais que ceux qui les comprennent trouvent ce travail utile. On observe une baisse significative des variables psychologiques etudiees parmi les etudiants qui realisent l'experimentation.
