Workarounds are commonplace in healthcare settings. An increase in the use of electronic health records has led to an escalation of workarounds as healthcare professionals cope with systems which are inadequate for their needs. Closely related to this, the documentation of vital signs in electronic health records has been problematic. The accuracy and completeness of vital sign documentation has a direct impact on the recognition of deterioration in a patient’s condition. We examined workflow processes to identify workarounds related to vital signs in a 372-bed hospital in Sweden. In three clinical areas, a qualitative study was performed with data collected during observations and interviews and analysed through thematic content analysis. We identified paper workarounds in the form of handwritten notes and a total of eight pre-printed paper observation charts. Background Working as a nurse in a war zone entails providing a unique form of care, and it is important to be well prepared before and during an international assignment. To improve organized preparations it is necessary to understand how nurses previously engaged in a military mission experienced their preparations. Objective The aim of this study is to describe military nurses' experiences of preparations for a mission, including factors that contribute to their being meaningful. Methodology The data comprises eight interviews with Swedish military nurses who served in Afghanistan. The results are analyzed using a qualitative content analysis. Meaning units are condensed into codes which, via subcategories, form categories. The categories are abstracted into an overall theme. Results The results highlight the importance of recognizing challenges and making informed choices. The overall theme shows that adequate preparation promotes an accepting attitude. Purpose: At the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, health care was at the centre of the crisis. New demands made existing organizational practices and services obsolete. Primary health care had a great deal of responsibility for COVID-19-related care. The pandemic demanded effective leadership to manage the new difficulties. This paper aims to explore experiences and perceptions of managers in primary health care in relation to their efforts to manage the COVID-19 crisis in their everyday work. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used a qualitative approach based on 14 semi-structured interviews with managers in primary health care from four regions in Sweden. The interviews were conducted during September to December 2020. Data were analysed using conventional qualitative content analysis. Findings: Data analysis yielded three categories: lonely in decision-making; stretched to the limit; and proud to have coped. The participants felt lonely in their decision-making, and they were stretched to the limit of their own and the organization's capacity. The psychosocial working conditions in primary care worsened considerably during the pandemic because demands on leaders increased while their ability to control the work situation decreased. However, they also expressed pride that they and their employees had managed the situation by being flexible and having a common focus. Originality/value: Looking ahead and using lessons learnt, and apart from making wise decisions under pressure, an important implication for primary health-care leaders is to not underestimate the power of acknowledging the virtues of humanity and justice during a crisis. Background: In dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), limitations in linguistic and cognitive abilities may lead to difficulties in participating in conversations. The conversational outcome is also dependent on how the conversation partner adjusts to potential communicative challenges. Aims: This study explored resources and barriers in communication in DLB. Methods & Procedures: Linguistic and cognitive function was explored through standard clinical testing. The dyad's perception of function in daily life was explored through semi‐structured interviews analysed with content analysis. Interactional patterns and participation in casual conversation was analysed with conversation analysis. Outcome & Results: The results show how the husband diagnosed with DLB performed with high scores across most cognitive and linguistic test tasks. The interview data, however, revealed how both he and his wife experienced significant challenges regarding, for example, conversational tempo, as well as negative feelings relating to adjusting to these conversational changes. The interactional data from the casual conversation revealed, among other patterns, how the wife engaged in most of the storytelling in the conversation. The husband contributed details when his wife asked for help, or he acknowledged a faulty or missing detail in his wife's storyline. Thus, they both oriented to the husband's competence in monitoring and keeping track of the conversational content, despite challenges in taking the floor. Conclusions & Implications: A holistic picture of communication in DLB necessitates the use of different evaluation approaches. Both monological (e.g., test tasks revealing cognitive and linguistic resources) and dialogical information sources (e.g., observations of conversations revealing adjustments in conversations), as well as the perceptions of those engaging in everyday conversations (i.e., people with DLB and their conversation partner(s)), need to be evaluated when assessing resources and barriers in communication. What this paper adds: What is already known on the subject: It is well‐known that dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) affects language and cognition. In conversations, persons with DLB experience difficulties in turn‐taking, topic initiation, entering conversations and keeping up with the conversational tempo. What this study adds: This study sheds light on conversations in one dyad where the husband has been diagnosed with DLB. The results from three different information sources (testing of language and cognition, interviews and a video‐recorded conversation) reveal patterns of resources and barriers that at first appear to contradict each other. However, the contradictions can be resolved when these discrepancies are examined in light of the differences in task structure, in terms of, for example, predetermined topics and how turn‐taking is managed. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work?: In order to gather a holistic picture of a person's conversational abilities, clinicians need to include information from both monological tasks (e.g., linguistic testing) as well as dialogical tasks (e.g., video recordings from conversation). The results also need to be evaluated in light of all conversation partners' perspectives on function in daily life. Background: Patients intoxicated after abusing illicit drugs constitute a significant proportion of patients cared for in intensive care units. Intensive critical care nurses who nurse accidentally intoxicated patients face complex and demanding situations, and there is a lack of studies regarding this topic. Aims and objectives: To illuminate Swedish intensive critical care nurses' experiences of nursing accidentally intoxicated patients after abuse of illicit drugs. Design: A qualitative design with an inductive approach was used. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with eight intensive critical care nurses at an intensive care unit in Sweden. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Findings: The themes found illuminate intensive critical care nurses' experiences of nursing accidentally intoxicated patients after their abuse of illicit drugs: feeling empathy and a wish to provide dignified care; dreading nursing the patient and feeling a lack of empathy; feeling frustration and questioning the care; lacking knowledge about a complex and challenging situation. Conclusions: It is essential to respond to intoxicated patients with empathy and dignity. Intensive critical care nurses should learn how to identify factors that lead to provocation and agitation in order to reduce the occurrence of dangerous situations in intensive care units. Relevance to clinical practice: To create a caring environment where the interaction becomes more positive and harmonious, an intensive care nurse needs a deep understanding of what a drug abuse disorder means. Aims and objectives The aim of this article was to explore whether current quality dimensions for health care services are sufficient to capture how parents perceive and contribute to quality of health care. Background New quality improvement initiatives that actively involve patients must be examined with a critical view on established quality dimensions to ensure that these measures support patient involvement. Design This paper used a qualitative and descriptive design. Methods This paper is based on interviews with parents participating in two experience-based co-design projects in a Swedish hospital that included qualitative content analysis of data from 12 parent interviews in paediatric care. Results Health care professionals often overemphasize their own significance for value creation in care processes and underappreciate parents' ability to influence and contribute to better quality. However, quality is not based solely on how professionals accomplish their task, but is co-created by health care professionals and parents. Consequently, assessment of quality outcomes also must include parents' ability and context. Conclusions This paper questions current models of quality dimensions in health care, and suggests additional sub-dimensions, such as family quality and involvement quality. Background and aim: Spouse carers of a person with dementia report feeling lonely and trapped in their role, lacking support and having no time to take care of their own health. In Sweden, the support available for family carers is not specialised to meet the needs of spouse carers of people with dementia. The aim of the study described in this paper was to explore spouse carers' experiences of caring for a partner with dementia, their everyday life as a couple and their support needs. Methods: Nine spouse carers of a partner with dementia living at home were recruited through a memory clinic and a dementia organisation. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the participants, focusing on their experiences of providing care, their support needs in relation to their caring situation, their personal well-being and their marital relationship. The interviews were transcribed and underwent qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in one overall theme Being 'alone' striving for belonging and adaption in a new reality, synthesized from four sub-themes: (1) Being in an unknown country ; (2) Longing for a place for me and us ; (3) Being a carer first and a person second ; and (4) Being alone in a relationship. Conclusions: The training of care professionals regarding the unique needs of spouse carers of people with dementia needs improvement, with education, in particular, focusing on their need to be considered as a person separate from being a carer and on the significance of the couple's relationship for their mutual well-being. Aim The aim was therefore to describe nurses' experiences of providing tactile massage as a nursing intervention in child and adolescent psychiatry. Method Ten nurses trained in tactile massage and employed at five different child and adolescent psychiatry clinics in Sweden participated in a qualitative study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, transcribed verbatim and analysed by qualitative content analysis. Results Three categories emerged from the analysis. 'Confirming body and mind', 'Building a trusting relationship' and 'Instructing next of kin in tactile massage'. Attentiveness to and respect for the integrity of the children and adolescents were essential for creating a trusting relationship with them. Tactile massage was found to trigger various physical and mental processes in the children and adolescents. The nurses reflected on the impact of tactile massage on their nursing and on themselves as a person, stating that it had led to the development of self-reflection and attentiveness. Implications for practice Tactile massage addresses the individual's emotional and physiological responses and could therefore bring holistic nursing to child and adolescent psychiatry. It might also enhance attentiveness and sensitivity on the part of child and adolescent psychiatry nurses when acknowledging the needs of children and adolescents in psychiatric care. Background: Delivering emergency care in rural areas can be challenging, but video consultation (VC) offers opportunities to make healthcare more accessible. The communication and relationship between professionals and patients have a significant impact on the patient's experience of safety and inclusion. Understanding the patient perspective is crucial to developing good quality healthcare, but little is known about patient experiences of emergency care via VC in a rural context. The aim of this study was to explore patient experiences of emergency care via VC in northern rural Sweden. Methods: Using a qualitative approach, semi- structured interviews (n = 12) were conducted with individuals aged 18—89 who had received emergency care with a registered nurse (RN) on site and VC with a general practitioner (GP). The interviews were conducted between October 2021 and March 2023 at community hospitals (n = 7) in Västerbotten County, Sweden. Interviews were analysed with content analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in main categories (n = 2), categories (n = 5) and subcategories (n = 20). In the main category, "We were a team of three", patients described a sense of inclusion and ability to contribute. The patients perceived the interaction between the GP and RN to function well despite being geographically dispersed. Patients highly valued the opportunity to speak directly to the GP. In the main category, "VC was a two-sided coin", some experienced the emergency care through VC to be effective and smooth, while some felt that they received a lower quality of care and preferred face-to-face consultation with the GP. The quality of the VC was highly dependent on the RN's ability to function as the hub in the emergency room. Conclusion: Patients in rural areas perceived being included in 'the team' during VC, however they experienced disadvantages with the system on individual basis. The nursing profession plays an important role, and a proper educational background is crucial to support RNs in their role as the hub of the visit. The GP's presence via VC was seen as important, but to fully enable them to fulfil their commitments as medical professionals, VC needs to be further improved with education and support from technical devices. In Sweden, people living independently and requiring daily living support can access 'housing support', a form of practical, educational, and social support provided by the municipalities. About two-thirds of those receiving this support have neurodevelopmental conditions, primarily autism or ADHD. Many are young adults in the process of adapting to new roles and expectations in different life domains, including education, work, and accommodation. This study aimed to provide a qualitative description of support workers' views on current practice in housing support for young adults (aged 18 to 29) with neurodevelopmental conditions. Semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with 34 housing support workers across 19 Swedish regions. An inductive qualitative content analysis approach was used. The interviews depicted a complex service, subject to organizational aspects (roles, responsibilities, availability, and allocation), the joint effort of key players (young adults, relatives, and support workers), and practical aspects of service provision (finding common ground for the work, and delivery of support). Some elements of the service were poorly designed for the target group. The support workers expressed a need for more knowledge about neurodevelopmental conditions, but also described new insights related to remote delivery of support. The results raise important questions about how housing support should be organized and delivered to strike the right balance between support and autonomy, meet specific needs, and ensure equal services across municipalities. Future research should adopt multiple perspectives and approaches, to help translate best practice and available evidence into a flexible and sustainable service. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic has affected both the private and public lives of people worldwide. Countries have chosen different strategies to reduce the spread of infection, including school closures and distance learning. This study aimed to describe school nurses' perceptions about the wellbeing of students during the Covid-19 pandemic in Sweden. Interviews in five focus groups and one individual were conducted with 17 school nurses in Sweden. The interviews were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis. According to the school nurses' perceptions, students were concerned about spreading infection, becoming infected themselves, their academic performances, and longing for socialization. The change in the school situation involved a slower pace and less anxiety for some students, more or less physical activity, and an increase in screen time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to contribute new knowledge about how first line managers (FLMs) in elderly care perceive their situation, with a focus on differences in management approaches at the intersection of the central and local parts of the organization. Design/methodology/approach: The present study has a qualitative approach and is part of a larger project on FLMs in elderly care. The results presented here are based on a secondary analysis of 15 of the total of 28 interviews carried out in the project. Findings: The main results are twofold: the majority of FLMs perceived differences in management approaches between local and central management; the differences caused some struggle because FLMs perceived that the management system did not support the differences. The two main aspects that caused the FLMs to struggle were differences in the foci of the management levels and difficulties in influencing the conditions of management. Originality/value: The results contribute to the debate on what aspects are important to sustainable management of elderly care. It is common knowledge that FLMs have a complex position, intermediate to the central, upper level management and their subordinates at the local level – levels with different foci and interests. The study contributes new knowledge about what these differences consist of and the dilemmas they cause and offers suggestions as to what can be done to reduce both energy waste and the risk of low job satisfaction. Accessible summary: What is known on the subject?: Coping with parental mental illness in families can be challenging for both children and parents. Providing evidence‐based family interventions to families where a parent has a mental illness can enhance the relationships in the family. Although psychiatric research has shown that evidence‐based family interventions may improve the communication and understanding of parental mental illness, there is a lack in this area of research from an everyday clinical context. What does this paper add to existing knowledge?: Our study reinforces the fact that parents with mental illnesses are searching for support from psychiatric services in order to talk to their children about their illness. The finding that under‐age children comply when they are told by their parents to join an intervention in psychiatric services supporting the family is something not observed earlier in research. This study once more illuminates the fact that partners of a person with parental mental illness are seldom, in an obvious way, included in family support interventions. Abstract: Introduction: Although research has shown that evidence‐based family interventions in research settings improve the communication and understanding of parental mental illness, there is a lack of knowledge about interventions in an everyday clinical context. Aim: This study explores how families with parental mental illness experience family interventions in a natural clinical context in psychiatric services. Method: Five families with children aged 10–12 were recruited from psychiatric services in southern Sweden and interviewed in a manner inspired by naturalistic inquiry and content analysis. Both family and individual interviews were performed. Results: In striving to lead an ordinary life while coping with the parental mental illness, these families sought the support of the psychiatric services, especially in order to inform their children about the mental illness. Despite different family interventions, the family members felt supported and reported that the number of conflicts in the family had decreased. The parents were appreciative of help with child‐rearing questions, and the children experienced a calmer family atmosphere. However, the partner of the person with mental illness experienced being left without support. Implications for practice: Our study shows that psychiatric services, and especially mental health nurses, are in a position to more regularly offer family interventions in supporting the children and the healthy partners. Background: The countries of the world are becoming increasingly multicultural and diverse, both as a result of growing migration, of people fleeing countries at war but also due to increased mobility related to labour immigration. Culture is a broad concept where the definitions focus on learned and shared values, traditions, and beliefs of a group of individuals. People's culture affects health and perceptions of illness as well as treatment, symptoms, and care. Moreover, people who are at the end of life, live and exist within all levels and contexts of care. Specialized palliative care requires that the nurse has sufficient knowledge and skills to be responsible for meeting the patient's nursing needs also on a cultural level, regardless of cultural affiliation. The aim of the study was to highlight nurses' experiences of the meaning of culture when caring for patients at the end of life in specialized palliative care. Methods: The study was conducted with a qualitative design and inductive approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with twelve nurses in western Sweden. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Results: The nurses had an awareness of culture as a phenomenon and how it affected palliative care at the end of life. The results showed two categories, Awareness of the impact of culture on nursing and Culture's impact and influence on the nurse's mindset and approach, consisting of seven subcategories that highlight the nurse's experience. It emerged that there are differences between cultures regarding notions of dying and death, who should be informed, and treatments. There were also challenges and emotions that arose when cultural preferences differed among everyone involved. A person-centred approach allowed for recognition of the dying person's culture, to meet diverse cultural needs and wishes. Conclusion: Providing culturally competent care is a major challenge. There are often no routines or methods prescribed for how nurses should relate to and handle the diversity of cultural notions that may differ from the values and cornerstones of palliative care. Background: Today, person-centred care is seen as a cornerstone of health policy and practice, but accommodating individual patient preferences can be challenging, for example involving caesarean section on maternal request (CSMR). The aim of this study was to explore Swedish health professionals' perspectives on CSMR and analyse them with regard to potential conflicts that may arise from person-centred care, specifically in relation to shared decision-making. Methods: A qualitative study using both inductive and deductive content analysis was conducted based on semi-structured interviews. It was based on a purposeful sampling of 12 health professionals: seven obstetricians, three midwives and two neonatologists working at different hospitals in southern and central Sweden. The interviews were recorded either in a telephone call or in a video conference call, and audio files were deleted after transcription. Results: In the interviews, twelve types of expressions (sub-categories) of five types of conflicts (categories) between shared decision-making and CSMR emerged. Most health professionals agreed in principle that women have the right to decide over their own body, but did not believe this included the right to choose surgery without medical indications (patient autonomy). The health professionals also expressed that they had to consider not only the woman's current preferences and health but also her future health, which could be negatively impacted by a CSMR (treatment quality and patient safety). Furthermore, the health professionals did not consider costs in the individual decision, but thought CSMR might lead to crowding-out effects (avoiding treatments that harm others). Although the health professionals emphasised that every CSMR request was addressed individually, they referred to different strategies for avoiding arbitrariness (equality and non-discrimination). Lastly, they described that CSMR entailed a multifaceted decision being individual yet collective, and the use of birth contracts in order to increase a woman's sense of security (an uncomplicated decision-making process). Conclusions: The complex landscape for handling CSMR in Sweden, arising from a restrictive approach centred on collective and standardised solutions alongside a simultaneous shift towards person-centred care and individual decision-making, was evident in the health professionals' reasoning. Although most health professionals emphasised that the mode of delivery is ultimately a professional decision, they still strived towards shared decision-making through information and support. Given the different views on CSMR, it is of utmost importance for healthcare professionals and women to reach a consensus on how to address this issue and to discuss what patient autonomy and shared decision-making mean in this specific context. Aims: To explore Registered Nurses' motives to undergo specialist training and to choose a particular speciality. Design: A descriptive qualitative interview study. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews were conducted during 2021 with 20 Swedish specialist nurse students from different specialisation areas. Qualitative content analysis was used. The COREQ checklist was used to report the study. Results: Specialist nurse students' motivations for further training were divided into three main categories with two sub‐categories each. The main categories were 'toward new challenges and conditions in work life', 'contributions to the development and higher competencies in health care' and 'personal work and life experiences as ground for choice'. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates the importance of motivating factors in the career choices of Specialist nurse students, such as personal challenges, desirable working conditions, career growth opportunities and personal experiences in the career choices. Creating a supportive work environment that helps to prioritise work‐life balance and offers the development of new skills might help retain nurses. The COVID-19 pandemic caused universities worldwide, including those in Sweden, to adopt online distance learning as the primary teaching approach. However, there is limited research on how larger environmental changes affect university students' occupational balance. In this study, 15 university students were interviewed, and their responses were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The findings suggest that the students had to take more responsibility for maintaining their occupational balance, as the pandemic and shift to online learning limited their social and physical environment and altered their daily activities and routines. Aim: To explore and describe older persons' unique experiences of care encounters with home care nurses in a real‐life context. Background: The increasing number of older persons in society contributes to increases in age‐related impairments compromising their quality of life. Future care consists of "hospitals at home" where care encounters occur in a person's private domain, partly becoming a clinical workplace. Scant research has focused on how older persons experience care encounters with home care nurses and needs to be highlighted. Design: Multiple‐case study. Methods: The cases relied on replication logic and five purposive sampled older persons were interviewed. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis and differences within and between cases were explored and findings across the cases were replicated. Findings: The cross‐analysis emerged in three categories: "Nursing routine rules the care encounters", "Lack of knowledge and information" and "Dependency on support from others". Conclusions: Our research has found that older persons face challenges while receiving home care, including limited engagement in their care and the need for enhanced support. Implementing person‐centred care in homes poses ethical challenges that require careful consideration. Home care nurses should prioritise understanding each patient individually, recognising them beyond their patient role, which necessitates more thorough and time‐sensitive care encounters. Introduction: Many people with mental health issues recover and re‐establish their identity and find hope and meaning in life, irrespective of symptom burden. Recovery can be supported through learning and education, aiming at strengthening self‐management and coping skills. Such education offered by peers with lived experience is rare and scarcely reported. The aim was to assess the perceived value of an educational intervention, called the Patient School (PS), organized within a psychiatry organization by employed patient peers with lived experience. Methods: A qualitative case study based on interviews with people with mental health issues (n = 8), peer‐organizers (n = 4) and healthcare professionals (n = 4), and documents such as schedules and educational materials were used. First, the interviews were transcribed and analyzed using inductive conventional content analysis. Second, the findings were synthesized into a programme theory, illustrated in a logic model. Results: The perceived value of the PS was related to the willingness of peer‐organizers to share their own experiences, a sense of belonging, sharing with like‐minded and new knowledge, practical skills, roles and attitudes acquired. These experiences were empowering, decreased stigma and reassured user participants that one's identity is not defined by mental health issues. This increased self‐confidence paves the way for increased self‐management and creates a potential for a more efficient use of healthcare services. Conclusion: We conclude that this PS, organized within a psychiatry organization by salaried peers, achieved the same positive results as those reported in the literature and showed the value of having peer‐organizers being part of the staff. Policy makers in Sweden and other European Member States pay increasing attention as to how best support working carers; carers juggling providing unpaid family care for older family members while performing paid work. Exploring perceived benefits and challenges with web-based information and communication technologies as a means of supporting working carers' in their caregiving role, this paper draws on findings from a qualitative study. The study aimed to describe working carers' experiences of having access to the web-based family care support network 'A good place' ( AGP) provided by the municipality to support those caring for an older family member. Content analysis of interviews with nine working carers revealed three themes: A support hub, connections to peers, personnel and knowledge; Experiencing ICT support as relevant in changing life circumstances; and Upholding one's personal firewall. Findings indicate that the web-based family care support network AGP is an accessible, complementary means of support. Utilising support while balancing caregiving, work obligations and responsibilities was made easier with access to AGP; enabling working carers to access information, psychosocial support and learning opportunities. In particular, it provided channels for carers to share experiences with others, to be informed, and to gain insights into medical and care issues. This reinforced working carers' sense of competence, helping them meet caregiving demands and see positive aspects in their situation. Carers' low levels of digital skills and anxieties about using computer-based support were barriers to utilising web-based support and could lead to deprioritising of this support. However, to help carers overcome these barriers and to better match web-based support to working carers' preferences and situations, web-based support must be introduced in a timely manner and must more accurately meet each working carer's unique caregiving needs. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the views and expectations concerning home healthcare from the perspective of older South Sami women and men in comparison with each other. Study design and methods: In this study, 56 older South Sami women (n=31) and men (n=25) were interviewed by telephone, using semi-structured interviews. Data was subjected to qualitative content analysis. Results: Our results revealed both similarities and some slight differences between the male and female participants. Both male and female participants expected the same care providers over time, in addition to expecting competence. Additionally, our female participants stressed that care providers should use time in their encounters with them as care receivers. For some female participants, this was related to competence. The findings also revealed that the care providers' cultural backgrounds were of importance to both female and male participants, even if female participants preferred care providers with a South Sami background to a greater extent. The male participants stressed that having care providers with a South Sami background could be of importance, but they were more concerned about the care providers' competence in the encounters with them as future care receivers. The main findings show that older South Sami women and men mostly have similar expectations of future home healthcare. Conclusions: Our results highlight that having the same care providers over time, with the necessary competence, is of importance to our participants. Additionally, participants prefer their care providers to have a South Sami background -- although not at the expense of competence -- and this was especially highlighted by the South Sami men. Implications for research, policy, and practice: Our study indicates that, if possible, in encounters with South Sami women and men, home healthcare services should facilitate for the same care providers over time and that they should be competent, preferably of a South Sami background, and speak South Sami if the care receiver has mastered the Sami language. Dementia is recognised as one of the major global health and social care challenges of present times. When the onset of dementia occurs in midlife, there is an increased possibility that there are children and young adults involved who are dependent on the parent concerned. The aim of the study was to describe health and social care professionals' experiences of identifying and supporting children and young adults with a parent with dementia. A qualitative descriptive approach was carried out with individual interviews of health and social care professionals, using a semistructured interview guide. Thirteen participants in rural and urban areas in Sweden were interviewed. The overarching theme, advocating a forgotten group with three categories were identified. They combine and reflect health and social care professionals' experiences of identifying and supporting children and young adults with a parent with dementia. Health and social care professionals who encountered children and young adults with a parent with dementia described how they were not sufficiently trained in supporting this group and identified a general shortage of available appropriate support services. Aim: To explore if and how nurses' perceived organizational support affects their ability to handle and resolve ethical value conflicts. Design: A mixed methods design with a longitudinal questionnaire survey and focus group interviews. Methods: A questionnaire survey in six hospitals in two Swedish regions provided data from 711 nurses responding twice (November–January 2019/2020 and November–January 2020/2021). A cross‐lagged path model tested the mutual prospective influence between the organizational climate of perceived organizational support, frequency of ethical value conflicts, and resulting moral distress. Four focus group interviews were conducted with 21 strategically selected nurses (April–October 2021). Qualitative data collection and analysis were inspired by Grounded Theory. Results: A climate of perceived organizational support was empowering, contributing to role security. It prospectively decreased the frequency of ethical value conflicts but not the moral distress when conflicts did occur. Conclusion: It is important to facilitate the development of perceived organizational support among nurses, but also to reduce the occurrence of ethical value conflicts that the nurses cannot resolve. Implications for the Profession: By ensuring a shared care ideology, good inter‐professional relations within the entire care organization, providing clear and supportive organizational structures, and utilizing competence adequately, healthcare managers can facilitate and support the development of perceived organizational support among nurses. Nurses who are empowered by perceived organizational support are stimulated by and take pride in their work and experience the work as meaningful and joyful. Impact: The study addressed the question of whether healthcare organizations could support nurses to resolving ethical value conflicts, and thus reduce moral distress. Background and objective: End‐stage renal disease (ESRD) affects a multitude of aspects in the patient's daily life, often entailing their own involvement in various aspects of the treatment. Although patient participation is a core health‐care value, what the concept signifies is not yet fully known. The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize patient participation in dialysis care, depicting patients' and health‐care professionals' perspectives. Design: This explorative study employed qualitative interviews and content analysis. Setting and participants: Seven focus group discussions engaging 42 key informants were performed, including patients, staff and managers with experience of dialysis care. Results: In dialysis care, patient participation connotes a sharing of information and knowledge, the learning of and planning of care, including partaking in shared decisions with regards to treatment and management, and being involved in the management of one's own health‐care treatment and/or self‐care activities. Although these attributes were illustrated by all stakeholders, their significance varied: patients suggested that their preferences regarding primary aspects of participation vary, while staff considered patients' performance of dialysis to be the ultimate form of participation. Further, while patients considered multiple ways to execute participation, staff suggested that aspects such as sharing information were a route to, rather than actual, involvement. Conclusions: Without a common understanding to denote the idea of patient participation, staff and patients are exposed to a potential deficit in terms of facilitating patient participation in everyday encounters of dialysis treatment. Background: According to shortage of registered nurses, organisational and leadership aspects grounded in person-centrered approach, are highlighted to ensure high quality of care. Therefore, it is interesting to develop knowledge regarding registered nurses working environment. Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate registered nurses' reason to end their employment at a university hospital setting (internal medicine, emergency department). Method: Qualitative content analysis with an inductive methodological approach was used to analyse registered nurses' experiences regarding their former employment. Inclusion criteria; all nurses (n = 55) who ended employment during one year (first of July 2020-30th of June 2021) were invited, and 38 semi-structured interviews were conducted. Results: Three categories were identified: Limited organisational support, Lack of visible leadership, and Limited healthy working environment, followed by six subcategories: Longing for organisational support, Being a tile in a box, Need for professional relationship, Limitation of supportive leadership, Imbalance of work versus personal life, and Ethical stress. Conclusion: To improve registered nurses working environment and commitment to work, balance between time at work and personal life is significant. Therefore, organisational support and leadership skills grounded in a person-centred approach are crucial to develop a healthy working environment. Aim: To explore young adults' experiences of living with type 1 diabetes in the transition to adulthood, including experiences of the transfer from paediatric to adult care. Design: A qualitative approach was used. Method: Ten young adults, six women and four men, aged 19–29 years, participated. Participants were recruited at their regular diabetes clinic from spring 2021 to spring 2022. Semi‐structured interviews were transcribed and analysed using qualitative content analysis. Findings: Dreaming of being nurtured towards self‐reliance was the overarching theme. Personal experiences of the transition to adulthood, including the transfer from paediatric to adult care, were described in terms of struggling to find balance in daily life, dealing with feelings of being different, being gradually supported to achieve independence, and wishing to be approached as a unique person in healthcare. Conclusion: In healthcare, it is important to emphasize not only diabetes‐related factors but also emotional and psychosocial aspects of life connected to the transition to adulthood, including the transfer to adult care. The young adults wished to be seen as unique persons in healthcare during their emerging adulthood and should therefore be supported to achieve self‐reliance through personal preparations for new challenges and for the consequences of transitioning to adulthood. Specialist nurses can provide appropriate knowledge and leadership. Implications for the Profession: These findings can guide nurse specialists in support for emerging adults to achieve self‐reliance and indicate the importance of person‐centred care when experiencing transition and transfer. Purpose: Postpartum Depression (PPD) --a common health problem for mothers' postpartum increases the risk of negative interaction between mothers and infants as it reduces the former's ability to respond to the latter's needs appropriately. Migrant mothers exhibit a higher prevalence of risk factors for PPD. Hence, this study aimed to investigate migrant mothers' life experiences pertaining to motherhood and PPD. Methods: Qualitative interviews were conducted with 10 immigrant mothers in the south of Sweden during 2021. Results: The qualitative content analysis revealed the following main themes: 1) PPD (two sub themes--psychosomatic symptoms and burden of responsibility due to feelings of loneliness); 2) mistrust of social services (one sub-theme--afraid of losing their children and Swedish social services' lack of understanding); 3) inadequate healthcare (two subthemes-- limited healthcare literacy for migrant mothers and language barrier; 4) women's coping strategy for well-being (two sub-themes--better awareness and understanding of the Swedish system and society, and freedom and independence in the new country). Conclusions: PPD, mistrust of social services, and inadequate healthcare lacking personal continuity were common among immigrant women, thus precipitating discrimination-- including lack of access to services because of limited health literacy, cultural differences, language barriers, and insufficient support. Adolescents' school performance is influenced by several factors and meaningful leisure time, especially organized activities, has great potential to impact academic results. Therefore, this study aimed to gain a greater understanding of how community actors perceive meaningful leisure time and how they work to create meaningful leisure time with the intention of increasing the chances for more adolescents completing upper secondary school. Semistructured interviews with 14 informants, representing nine different community actors in a middle-sized city in Sweden, were conducted and analysed using content analysis. Results suggest that meaningful leisure time positively impacts adolescents' mental health through social relations, support, and guidance. Leisure is believed to have spillover effects on reducing stress, manage school demands and performance. Nevertheless, leisure time activities and school performance must be balanced with time and effort. Community actors work proactively with availability, individual approaches, and offering activities to create meaning. From a societal perspective, places to hang out with supportive adults, in particular structured activities, should be regarded as a social investment in adolescents' health and prospects, especially in deprived areas where fewer activities are available. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate program management teams' views on issues and challenges in managing a large, multi-sectoral child health promotion program in Sweden. Design/methodology/approach – In total, 17 participants representing two autonomous program management teams, one strategic and one operational, were interviewed. Analysis of interview data was complemented with reviews of program documents. Findings – Program management teams identified important issues concerning the program's formal structure, goals, role distribution, and change and dissemination processes, but lacked a shared mental model of the situation. Inter and intra group communication, long- and short-term strategic planning were further areas in need of improvement. While issues and challenges might seem to be agreed upon by the program's change agents, closer inspection reveals variation in key characteristics as well as in perspectives on solutions. Originality/value – Health promotion programs are challenging. Researchers trying to understand program success have focused on particular interventions, contextual factors and program recipients. Less research has focused on the internal processes of teams tasked with wide-ranging change mandates and the effects such processes can have on program outcomes. This paper aims to describe the nature of pediatric cardiology teams (PCTs) based in Sweden through the use of a mixed methods approach. Questionnaires examining issues about the organization/ways of working, functions/tasks and attitudes were answered by 30 PCTs. Focus group interviews were conducted with six PCTs, selected purposefully by size and location, and information on experiences and attitudes on interprofessional teamwork was explored in depth. Results from the quantitative indicated that in 17 of the teams, where the nurse acted as the central coordinator, there was a positive attitude to the value of teamwork. In the interviews, different problems and needs of improvements were mentioned regarding structure, leadership, presence of physicians in the team as well as the team's mandate. All of the participants, however, agreed that interprofessional teams were required to manage the complexity of the children's care. In conclusion, this study suggests that PCTs need further support to develop structure, leadership and coordination of resources to function in a more effective manner. AimThis paper aims to explore and analyse mental healthcare staff's (MHCS) knowledge and experiences of diabetes care for persons with psychosis.BackgroundThere are a range of studies concerning the increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus among persons with psychosis, and the need for healthy lifestyle interventions to prevent the illness. MHCS are often trusted and have regular follow-ups with the patients, and their attitudes and actions often play an important role for the person's care behaviour. There is still little documentation of their experiences of diabetes care.MethodsA qualitative, explorative design was used, collecting data through semi-structured interviews with 12 MHCS working in psychosis outpatient care in Sweden. Data were analysed with qualitative content analysis.FindingsThree categories emerged and provide a deeper understanding of how staff were aware of the risks of type 2 diabetes among their patients and therefore performed lifestyle interventions to promote these. Nevertheless, they lacked knowledge of diabetes care and simultaneously felt a lack of training among diabetes nurses to adapt diabetes care to suit persons with cognitive dysfunctions. Patients who were overconfident in their ability to manage diabetes care reported to have experienced most difficulties. Cooperation among those involved in these persons’ health was considered necessary.ImplicationsDiabetes care for persons with psychosis could improve if knowledge of type 2 diabetes was increased among MHCS and training in how to adapt diabetes care to persons with cognitive dysfunctions was enlarged among diabetes nurses. Purpose – Alcohol stands in an ambiguous relationship to sports, and there is a common belief that participation in sports prevents alcohol consumption. Although this is not always the case, sports clubs can be important settings for health promoting alcohol policy interventions .The purpose of this paper is to explore the process of implementing alcohol policies in eight football clubs in Sweden and, in particular, how the implementation process is conveyed in the clubs' alcohol policy projects, the similarities and differences between this case study and Durlak and DuPre's implementation model and the recommendations for successful alcohol policy implementation in relation to the result. Design/methodology/approach – In total, 15 semi-structured interviews on the subject of sports' club alcohol policies were conducted with project leaders and board members from eight sports clubs. The interviews were analysed using Durlak and DuPre's model of factors affecting implementation processes. Findings – The results show that almost all the factors in Durlak and DuPre's model were comprehensively manifested in the football clubs' alcohol policy projects, although with slightly different significance and emphases. Practical implications – The results are discussed in relation to recommendations for successful alcohol policy implementation in sports clubs. Recommendations are presented in six areas: an explicit message; fit; internal policy dissemination; alcohol policy as a part of overall policy; support; and actors. Originality/value – Many sports clubs do an excellent job of implementing alcohol policies successfully and it is imperative to incorporate their "good" practices into research and provide assistance to those whose policies and practice are less developed. Aims. This paper is a report on a study exploring beliefs about health and illness in women with gestational diabetes born in Sweden and Africa living in Sweden. A further aim is to study the influence of beliefs on self-care and care seeking. Background. Extensive global migration leading to multicultural societies implies challenges to health care. Health/illness beliefs are culturally related and determine health-related behaviour, including self-care, which is crucial in management of gestational diabetes. The risk of developing gestational diabetes is increased in migrants, particularly of African origin, when residing in Western countries. No previous studies, except one, have been found comparing health/illness beliefs in women with gestational diabetes of different origin. Design. Exploratory descriptive study. Methods. Semi-structured interviews. Consecutive sample of women diagnosed with gestational diabetes, 13 born in Sweden and 10 born in Africa, from a diabetes clinic in Sweden. Qualitative content analysis of data was applied. Results. Beliefs were mainly related to individual and social factors. Health was described as freedom from disease and being healthy. Swedish women perceived heredity and hormonal changes as causing gestational diabetes, avoided work-related stress, had a healthy lifestyle, worried about the baby's health and development of type 2 diabetes, sought information, used more medications and health care and were on sick-leave more often because of pregnancy-related problems than African women, who did not know the cause of gestational diabetes, had a passive self-care attitude and followed prescriptions, often reported being told by staff that gestational diabetes would disappear after delivery and stated more pregnancy-related problems which they treated with rest or watchful waiting. Conclusions. Health/illness beliefs differed and affected self-care and care seeking. Lower risk awareness in African-born women was related to limited knowledge about the body and gestational diabetes, which was further amplified by healthcare professionals informing them about gestational diabetes being transient. Relevance to clinical practice. Individual beliefs and risk awareness must be elicited, and adequate information must be given to prevent negative health effects of gestational diabetes. This paper explores the contributions of the Cultural Formulation (CF) interview to an overall understanding of patients, and focuses on the narratives of 23 newly referred patients with migrant backgrounds seeking help at a psychiatric outpatient clinic in Stockholm. Through text content analysis methods we identified five themes: displacement in space and time; mental illness as a physical disability; life events as etiological factors; concealing as a coping strategy; and being lost in a fragmented health care system. Findings indicate the need to contextualize symptoms for an in-depth comprehension of patients’ phenomenology. Both clinical and policy implications are discussed. Abstract Aim. This paper is a report of a study illuminating women's experiences of living with chronic heart failure with a focus on feelings of security and insecurity. Background. To be secure is a basic human need. Although feelings of being insecure has been found to be a common problem among people who live with chronic heart failure few qualitative studies, particularly among women, have been carried out in the field. Method. Eight women took part in focus group interviews during 2006. The data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Findings. The women's feelings of security include acceptance of the past, everyday life and the future, trusting the self and the body despite the disease, not having to deal with dependency alone, and faith in care and treatment. The women's feelings of insecurity include feeling guilty for being sick and incapacitated, fear of living with a frail and failing body, anxiety about growing dependence on others, loneliness and death and lack of faith in care and treatment. Conclusion. The outlook on the past, the present and the view about the future, can be fundamental for the quality of life, and the sense of security and insecurity among women living with chronic heart failure. To support a sense of security it seems essential that nursing staff attempt to understand the women's outlook on life and their personal interpretations of living with chronic heart failure. Background: Many persons with dementia continue living in their own homes, which requires the support of their relatives. One way to meet the needs of relatives and persons with dementia is to use ICT. Methods: An interview study was conducted in Sweden (2007-2008) with a purposive sample of 14 spouses of a person with dementia. Qualitative content analysis was used to identify categories and themes in the data. Findings: Relatives′ reflections on the use of ICT were described as ICT - a support in daily life, ICT - internal and external conditions and ICT - the decision to use or not use. Based on these categories, a theme was revealed: shifting between different perspectives: my, your and our needs for safety and security. Conclusion: Relatives struggle to create a situation of safety and security in daily life for themselves and the persons with dementia. ICT devices with the right functionality and used at the right time are regarded as useful in solving everyday problems. In the decision to use or not use ICT, the opportunity to create a safe and secure environment overshadows potential ethical problems. Aim. This paper is a report of the experiences of children (5-10 years) of procedural pain when they underwent a trauma wound care session. Background. Procedural pain in conjunction with trauma wound care often induces anxiety and distress in children. Children need to alleviate pain and avoid the development of fear in conjunction with examinations and treatments. The nurse could help children to reach this goal by using the comfort theory, which describes holistic nursing in four contexts: physical, psychospiritual, environmental and sociocultural. Few studies have focused on children's experiences of comforting activities in conjunction with trauma wound dressings. Methods. This study was conducted between May 2008 and January 2010. Thirty-nine participants aged 5-10 were consecutively included in this study. The wound care session was standardized for all the participants, and semi-structured qualitative interviews with open-ended questions were conducted with all the children in conjunction with the procedure. All the interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed with qualitative content analysis. Findings. Four themes were identified: clinical competence, distraction, participation and security. The children were helped to reach comforting activities to enhance pain management. Conclusion. Children require more than just analgesics in wound care. They also need to experience security and participation in this context. When children feel clinical competence in wound care, they trust the nurse to carry out the wound dressing and instead can focus on the distraction that increases their positive outcomes. Aim. This paper is a report of a study of factors which influence mothers' sense of security during the first postnatal week. Background. Mothers' sense of security the first postnatal week is not thoroughly elucidated in the literature. Methods. An interview study with a qualitative descriptive design was carried out, using thematic content analysis. Fourteen mothers from three hospital uptake areas in Southern Sweden were interviewed using focus group discussions and individual interviews between May 2008 and March 2009. Findings. Postnatal sense of security was dependent on support from staff, support from family and the capacity and health of the woman and the baby, and these themes had categories and sub-categories, including: Being met as an individual, Being given relevant information, Being prepared for the time after birth and Having someone to turn to -- knowing who to ask, Having partner and/or significant others close at hand, Mother's and the baby's own resources, Being assured that her own physical health was good, and Having planned follow-up regarding the baby's health after discharge. Conclusion. Staff attitudes should be continually discussed at all units providing maternity care. These discussions should include attitudes towards the father and the significance of his presence for the wellbeing of the family. Continued postbasic staff education in, for example, counselling and communication is necessary if services are to be improved so that parents' individual needs can be met. This paper aims to describe everyday life experiences of mothers who have an adult child with a long-term mental illness. Sixteen mothers were interviewed. A content analysis resulted in one main theme: My adult child who is struggling with mental illness is always on my mind, and three subthemes: (1) living a life under constant strain, (2) living with an emotional burden, and (3) seeing light in the darkness despite difficulties. Knowledge of mothers' everyday life experiences is of great importance in order to support them and thereby increase the possibility of these mothers being a source of strength for their child. Background: Care encounters at general wards have many reasons, and the complexity differs. Some arriving at the ward are relatives of discharged intensive care unit patients', who are usually more fragile than others due to what had happened to them. Research indicates that care encounters leave relatives dissatisfied. There is a lack of studies describing how relatives of adult patients experience the transfer from the intensive care unit. Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe relatives' experiences of care encounters with nurses during their loved ones' stay in the general ward after being discharged from the intensive care unit. Methods: A qualitative descriptive design with an inductive approach was used. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with relatives [n = 14) of patients from different hospitals in Sweden. Data were analysed using content analysis. Results: Relatives expressed feeling a huge responsibility for ensuring the quality of care for their loved ones. It was essential to encounter available, committed, and compassionate nurses in the general ward after being transferred from the intensive care unit. The theme 'longing for trust and struggling to be involved in their loved one's care' was illustrated in the two subthemes of 'wanting to be seen as an important piece of the puzzle' and 'being vigilant and worrying about the quality of care'. Conclusion: The relatives of patients experience their needs as unfulfilled in care encounters with nurses at the general ward after transfer from ICU. In order to meet the needs of relatives, nurses require well-developed non-technical skills to establish a compassionate interaction founded on trust and respect for the individual. Future research should investigate how relatives' needs can be met in practice. Aim: To describe healthcare workers' experiences of preconditions and patient safety risks in intensive care units during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Background: Healthcare workers' ability to adapt to changing conditions is crucial to promote patient safety. During the COVID‐19 pandemic, healthcare workers' capacity to maintain safe care was challenged and a more in‐depth understanding on frontline experiences of patient safety is needed. Design: A qualitative descriptive design. Methods: Individual interviews were conducted with 29 healthcare workers (nurses, physicians, nurse assistants and physiotherapists) from three Swedish hospitals directly involved in intensive care of COVID‐19 patients. Data were analysed with inductive content analysis. Reporting followed the COREQ checklist. Results: Three categories were identified. Hazardous changes in working conditions describes patient safety challenges associated with the extreme workload with high stress level. Imperative adaptations induced by changed preconditions for patient safety which include descriptions of safety risks following adaptations related to temporary intensive care facilities, handling shortage of medical equipment and deviations from routines. Safety risks triggered by reorganisation of care describe how the diluted skill‐mix and team disruptions exposed patients to safety risks, and that safety performance mostly relied on individual healthcare worker's responsibility. Conclusions: The study suggests that healthcare workers experienced an increase in patient safety risks during the COVID‐19 pandemic mainly because the extremely high workload, imperative adaptations, and reorganisation of care regarding skill‐mix and teamwork. Patient safety performance relied on the individuals' adaptability and responsibility rather than on system‐based safety. Relevance to Clinical Practice: This study provides insights on how healthcare workers' experiences can be used as a source of information for recognition of patient safety risks. To improve detection of safety risks during future crises, guidelines on how to approach safety from a system perspective must include healthcare workers' perceptions on safety risks. Background: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are common and therefore managed by dentists on a daily basis. However, patients with TMD consistently go undetected and therefore untreated in dentistry. The reasons for these shortcomings have not been fully explored, specifically with regard to patients' perspectives. Therefore, this study aimed to explore patients' experiences of TMD and related treatment, with special focus on the experiences of having TMD, factors related to seeking care, and perspectives on received treatment. Methods: Purposive sampling was used to recruit adult patients at the Public Dental Health services (PDHS) in the Region of Västerbotten, Sweden, during 2019. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted and analysed using Qualitative Content Analysis. Sixteen patients were interviewed (ten women and six men, 20–65 years). The interviews probed the patients' perspectives of having TMD, seeking care, and receiving treatment. All participants were also examined according to the Diagnostic Criteria for TMD (DC/TMD) and qualified for at least one DC/TMD diagnosis. Results: The data analysis led to the main theme Seeking care when the situation becomes untenable, but dental care fails to meet all needs. The patients expressed worry and social discomfort because of the symptoms but still strived to have an as normal daily life as possible. However, severe symptoms and associated consequences compelled them to seek professional help. Experiences of distrust together with challenges to access the PDHS were identified and related to the patients' unfulfilled expectations. Conclusions: Patients' reported experiences indicate that receiving timely and appropriate care is more of an unfulfilled expectation than the current state of management of patients with TMD in dentistry. Purpose: This study aimed to increase the understanding of emotions and coping strategies used by head and neck cancer patients before cancer treatment, and to explore their emotions and coping strategies in relation to symptoms and side effects after treatment. Furthermore, we aimed to investigate the patients' perceptions of received treatment and support. Methods: Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 patients who had been treated for head and neck cancer, which included radiotherapy, at the Department of Oncology and the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. The interviews were analyzed in accordance with the method for Qualitative Content Analysis. Results: The result picture revealed three head themes. The first theme "Management of simultaneously influencing mind-sets before cancer treatment" described the patients experiences of feeling "Scared and worried," "Lonely and disappointed," and "Relieved and confident", and how they tried to handle the diagnosis and preparations for treatment by "Applying a positive mind-set", "Searching for support," and "Trusting the healthcare system". The second theme "Experiences of becoming a pale shadow of oneself", illustrated experiences of affecting post-treatment symptoms and side effects. To which, the last theme "Handling contextual influencing experiences after cancer treatment" displayed post-treatment emotions of being "Shocked and disappointed" and "Concerned and unsupported" but also "Grateful and forward-thinking", where strategies such as "Appreciating Life", "Networking socially," and "Adapting to the new life" were used. Conclusions: The results indicated the need for a more patient-centered care approach, with clearer structures and improved individual support both before and after treatment and in connection to rehabilitation. Patients' cognitive changes after cancer treatment should be considered in the aftercare, which should also include adaptation to situation and strengthening of patients' self-management as a goal. Background: Cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes are among the largest public health challenges in Sweden. Research indicates that a healthy lifestyle can prevent most cases. The health dialogue is an evidence-based public health programme for primary care with positive results in several regions of Sweden. This study aimed to describe health care professionals' experiences and perceptions of health promotion through the health dialogue intervention during the pilot phase in the Scania region of Sweden. Methods: The study consists of 12 individual interviews with health care professionals educated in the health dialogue method, implementing the intervention in Scania. Qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach was used. Results: The analysis resulted in 10 sub-categories and the four main categories: A more health-promoting mindset would benefit primary care; Empower individuals; Facilitate sustainable lifestyle changes; Challenges, tools and support for the implementation of the health dialogue. One overarching theme emerged: "Health dialogue, a potential start of a paradigm shift in Swedish primary care". Conclusions: Conclusions imply that the health dialogue is a well-structured method with tools to make health promotion and primary prevention an integrated part of primary care. A respectful and motivating approach during the health dialogue is recommended. It is important to have an ongoing discussion about the approach among the health care professionals. Incorporating the Health Belief Model in the health care professionals' education in the method could increase the focus on self-efficacy during counselling, which could favour the participants' change process. Rationale, aim, and objective This study aimed to explore programme theories of a national quality register. A programme theory is a bundle of assumptions underpinning how and why an improvement initiative functions. The purpose was to examine and establish programme theories of a national quality register widely used in Sweden: Senior alert. The paper reports on how programme theories among change recipients emerge in relation to the established programme theory of the initiator. Methods A qualitative approach and a longitudinal research design were used. To develop programme theories among change recipients, individual semistructured interviews were conducted. Three sets of interviews were conducted in the period of 2011 to 2013, totalling 22 interviews. In addition, 4 participant observations were made. To develop the initiator's programme theory, an iterative multistage collaboration process between the researchers and the initiator was used. A directed content analysis was used to analyse data. Findings The initiator and change recipients described similar programme logics, but differing programme theories. With time, change recipients' programme theories emerged. Their programme theories converged and became more like the programme theory of the initiator. Conclusions This study has demonstrated the importance of making both the initiator's and change recipients' programme theories explicit. To learn about conditions for improvement initiatives, comparisons between their programme theories are valuable. Differences in programme theories provide information on how initiators can customize support for their improvement initiatives. Similar programme logics can be underpinned by different programme theories, which can be deceptive. Programme theories emerge over time and need to be understood as dynamic phenomena. Aims and Objective: To explore the experiences of patients with non‐cardiac chest pain and cardiac anxiety regarding participation in an internet‐delivered cognitive behavioural therapy program. Background: Non‐cardiac chest pain is common and leads to cardiac anxiety. Internet‐delivered cognitive behavioural therapy may be a possible option to decrease cardiac anxiety in these patients. We have recently evaluated the effect of an internet‐delivered cognitive behavioural therapy program on cardiac anxiety. Design: An inductive qualitative study using content analysis and the COREQ checklist. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews with 16 Swedish patients, who had participated in the internet‐delivered cognitive behavioural therapy program. Results: Three categories were found. The first, 'Driving factors for participation in the internet‐delivered cognitive behavioural therapy program' described the impact of pain on their lives and struggle that led them to participating in the program. The second, 'The program as a catalyst' described that the program was helpful, trustworthy and useful and the last category, 'Learning to live with chest pain' described the program as a tool for gaining the strength and skills to live a normal life despite chest pain. Conclusions: The program was experienced as an opportunity to return to a normal life. The program was perceived as helpful, trustworthy and useful, which helped the participants challenge their fear of chest pain and death, and gain strength and new insights into their ability to live a normal life. Relevance to Clinical Practice: A tailored internet‐delivered cognitive behavioural therapy program delivered by a nurse therapist with clinical experience of the patient group is important to improve cardiac anxiety. Aims and objectives: To describe healthcare professionals' perceptions of person‐centred care for patients with colorectal cancer, within the standardised care concept of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery. Background: International guidelines for colorectal surgery describe standardised perioperative care. Combining standardised care with person‐centred care could be accomplished using the person‐centred nursing framework for establishing and maintaining relationships with patients. Despite strong evidence for the standardised care concepts' medical benefits, studies concerning the practice of person‐centred care from a nursing point of view are sparse. Design: A qualitative descriptive design was used. Methods: Four focus groups interviews were performed including 22 healthcare professionals with 1–29 years' experience of caring for patients with colorectal cancer. Data were analysed using qualitative conventional content analysis. The COREQ checklist for reporting qualitative research was used. Results: Three themes emerged in the analysis; Framework in the healthcare system, Facing differences in participation and Interacting with the person beyond the illness. Conditions for person‐centred care were related to the interactions between patients and healthcare professionals, the structure of care were also considered relevant. Conclusion: There is a discrepancy between what is considered important to do and what is done in clinical practice to create conditions for patient participation. Interacting with patients and creating an interprofessional environment are important conditions, the structure of care is also a fundamental key to promoting person‐centred care. There is a need for further improvement in care of patients with colorectal cancer to achieve person‐centredness within standardised care. Relevance to clinical practice: The findings provide valuable insights into what healthcare professionals consider to be important for achieving person‐centred care. This knowledge can be useful in clinical practice and education programs. Purpose: Dignity and well-being are key aspects of the legislation and policies that regulate care of older persons worldwide. In addition, care of older persons should be person-centred. Dignity and well-being are described as results of person-centred care (PCC). The purpose of this study was to gain an understanding of important aspects for older persons to experience dignity and well-being in residential care facilities (RCFs). Design/methodology/approach: This study had a qualitative approach, and individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 older persons living in RCFs. Data were analysed using inductive content analysis. Findings: To experience dignity and well-being older persons emphasized the importance of preserving their identity. To do this, it was important to be able to manage daily life, to gain support and influence and to belong to a social context. However, the findings indicate a need for improvements. Practical implications: Insights into older persons' experiences of important aspects for experiencing dignity and well-being in RCFs can be used by first-line managers and registered nurses when designing improvement strategies to promote PCC. Originality/value: Dignity and well-being are described as results of PCC. The findings provide an understanding of what older persons perceive as important for experiencing dignity and well-being in RCFs. Background: There is moderate to strong evidence of the effectiveness of health-promotion interventions, but implementation in routine primary health care (PHC) has been slow. In the Act in Time project implementation support is provided for a health promotion practice using individually targeted lifestyle interventions in a PHC setting. Identifying health care professionals' (HCPs') perceptions of barriers and facilitators helps adapt implementation activities and achieve a more successful implementation. This study aimed, at a pre-implementation stage, to describe the expectations of managers, appointed internal facilitators (IFs) and HCPs on implementing a healthy lifestyle-promoting practice in PHC. Methods: In this qualitative study five focus group discussions with 27 HCPs and 16 individual interviews with managers and appointed IFs were conducted at five PHC centres in central Sweden. The PHC centres are participating in the Act in Time project, evaluating the process and outcomes of a multifaceted implementation strategy for a healthy lifestyle-promoting practice. A deductive qualitative content analysis based on the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) was followed using inductive analysis. Results: Twelve constructs from four of five CFIR domains were derived: Innovation characteristics, Outer setting, Inner setting, and Characteristics of individuals. These domains are related to the expectations of HCPs to implement a healthy lifestyle-promoting practice, which includes facilitating factors and barriers. The inductive analysis showed that the HCPs perceived a need for a health-promotion approach to PHC. It serves the needs of the patients and the expectations of the HCPs, but lifestyle interventions must be co-produced with the patient. The HCPs expected that changing routine practice into a healthy lifestyle-promoting practice would be challenging, requiring sustainability, improved structures, cooperation in inter-professional teams, and a common purpose. A collective understanding of the purpose of changing practice was vital to successful implementation. Conclusions: The HCPs valued implementing a healthy lifestyle-promoting practice in a PHC setting. However, changing routine methods was challenging, implying that the implementation strategy should address obstacles and facilitating factors identified by the HCPs. Health is created in everyday life and settings, where food literacy (FL) and health literacy (HL) are recognized as important for autonomy over one's own health. Though it is acknowledged that bridging the gap between healthcare settings and community settings may be necessary to reach those requiring extra support. Open preschool (OP) is a low threshold community setting which parents with their young children can visit voluntarily, where the various activities offered can be opportunities to address topics related to food and health. The aim of this study is to explore preschool teachers and health practitioners' thoughts and experience of OP as a setting for health promotion, with focus on food and eating. The study is localized to OP's in a multicultural district in Gothenburg, Sweden. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three preschool teachers and seven health practitioners (one dental hygienist, three dietitians and three public health strategists). With an inductive approach, data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. From the perspective of teachers and health practitioners, the findings indicate that OP can be a setting for mutual learning in a supportive environment. OP provides various possibilities for improved FL and HL by linking health practitioners with families, providing the opportunity to socialize and by eating together. The results also reveal that language barriers can sometimes hinder communication, and that OP does not reach all families. Continuous collaboration between OP and health organizations and practitioners along with regular use of intercultural mediators is recommended by the professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
