Trust widely works in supply chain practices and deeply affects supply chain decisions. Full trust in transactions and inaccurate demand forecasts are most likely to lead to biased decisions and low supply chain performances. Therefore, we propose a trust updating model to quantify decision-maker’s trust. The model presents the variation of trust over time and is helpful to evaluate decision-maker’s trust level in each transaction. In the model, a coordination mechanism with contract is designed to mitigate each supply chain partner’s ordering risk. Optimal order strategies of both manufactures and retailers in a supply chain under a bidirectional option contract are analysed in this paper. We find the manufacturer’s optimal production quantity is positively affected by penalty price in the contract and its bounds are given by simulation analysis. Our findings in this paper indicate that the proposed coordination mechanism with bidirectional option contract is profitable to all supply chain partners in long-term transactions. Meanwhile, the coordination mechanism helps the supply chain partners to catch up with marketing fluctuations and enhances the supply chain trust and partnerships. Statistical body shape models (SBSM) provide compact, flexible representations of body shape that can be implemented in design software. However, few SBSMs have been created to represent adults in supported seated postures that are relevant for the design of seated environments, and none has incorporated the effects of age. This paper presents an SBSM based on surface laser-scan data from 155 U.S. adults. The data were processed to obtain homologous mesh structure and symmetric geometry, and the processed data were statistically analysed using principal component analysis to obtain a compact representation of the data variance. Regression analysis was conducted to predict body size and shape from stature, body mass index, ratio of sitting height to stature, sex, and age. The resulting model allows rapid generation of realistic body models for applications, including product design, accommodation assessment, and safety system optimisation. This paper explores the provision of a psychoanalytically informed reflective practice space to a multi-disciplinary social care and social work team in Ireland. The reflective model is closely aligned to the Tavistock's Work Discussion Group (WDG). The authors explore the selection and preparation of a case and case presentation by one of the authors. This paper examines this process, what it looks and feels like, showing with supporting theory, how refined engagement with case material offers an opportunity for deep thought and reflection. The paper draws on Bion's concept of 'attacks on linking' referring to a phenomenon that occurs when intolerable experiences sever the capacity to think. Facilitated group reflection offered emotional containment to the worker and supported a deeper understanding of his complex connection with and understanding of one foster family. This paper answers calls for further theoretical work into types of pictures used in health information. Pictures influence message reception, interpretation, and retention, making this an important area for research in health communication. A content analysis was used to produce a systematic and theory-orientated assessment of the use of pictures in cancer screening information materials (N = 44) produced for invitees to either cervical, breast or bowel screening in the United Kingdom. The main categories investigated in this study were function, content and style of the pictures. Pictures used in cancer screening information materials were twice as likely to be used to demonstrate what something looked like or depict a situation (display pictures) than to convey a specific cancer screening message (message pictures). The messages being conveyed were predominantly related to screening procedures (51%) or outcomes (38%) rather than screening experiences (6%) or decisions (9%). Pictures were rarely used to portray a narrative in the materials (n = 12). The paper brings conceptual clarity to the ways pictures can be, and have so far been used, to communicate cancer screening information. This study identifies that pictures conveying a cancer-related message, and pictures in the format of a narrative, should be used more often in print cancer screening communications. Social work education is mandated to provide inclusivity and accessibility to all students. Critical disability theory (CDT) challenges the notion that disabilities should be eradicated; rather, it declares that different abilities should be acknowledged and embraced as contributions. Universal design (UD), originating as a framework for accessible architectural building designs, has become a pedagogical approach in education. UD supports CDT and takes it farther by suggesting how to develop an inclusive environment. Through the lens of CDT and UD, this conceptual paper provides the rationale for educators to increase classroom inclusivity and accessibility by adding closed captions to all learning materials, presentations and videos, Closed captions, the text of verbal language, is beneficial for many different types of students, including those with processing disorder or hearing loss, those who did not learn English as their primary language, and those who have difficulty with focus. This paper investigates students' mathematical modeling activity in data-rich modeling tasks. It aims at gaining insight into how students develop meaning when modeling data-rich situations and the mathematical models produced. A tendency to model a particular dataset, rather than the phenomenon that the dataset is a particular instance of, has been observed previously. Students concentrate on fitting mathematical objects such as functions to data, rather than using domain knowledge about the situation being modeled, mapping this to the data so as to capture the phenomenon as a whole. In other instances, students find functions that simply linearly interpolate the data and do not consider key features of the phenomenon, particularly when they have access to technological tools. The extent to which students' reasoning indicated awareness of their taking either approach was investigated in a qualitative study with Year 10/11 students. How the approach taken affected the processes students engage in whilst modeling was also investigated. The paper contributes to our currently limited literature on research into this issue and how it affects the outcome of students learning to model in classrooms at this level of schooling. Interest in Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) is increasing as it is predicted that they can bring improved safety, performance and operational capabilities. However, their introduction is associated with a number of enduring Human Factors challenges (e.g. difficulties monitoring automated systems) for human operators, with their 'remoteness' in shore-side control centres exacerbating issues. This paper aims to investigate underlying decision-making processes of operators of uncrewed vehicles using the theoretical foundation of the Perceptual Cycle Model (PCM). A case study of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) accident has been chosen as it bears similarities to the operation of MASS through means of a ground-based control centre. Two PCMs were developed; one to demonstrate what actually happened and one to demonstrate what should have happened. Comparing the models demonstrates the importance of operator situational awareness, clearly defined operator roles, training and interface design in making decisions when operating from remote control centres. Using the pedagogic lens this article presents theoretical exposition of feminist egalitarian discourse for social work education. The Masters in Social Work is a professional qualification, which has as its primary goal the promotion of human rights and social justice. In theory, feminist egalitarian discourse aligns succinctly with this overall goal. However, in reality feminist egalitarian discourse is often overlooked and is rarely considered mainstream in many social work programmes. The paper is divided into three sections (1) An Irish context, which provides a brief overview of social work in Ireland, while linking it to the way social work programmes have developed within such a context; (2) The status of feminist egalitarian discourse in social work education, whereby critical theorisation in this paper interrogates the literature on feminist egalitarian discourse in social work education (particularly Masters in Social Work curricula), and in doing so, and; (3) Embraces feminist egalitarian discourse in social work education, which highlights the significance of critical perspectives in contemporary social work education and practice. Theorisation through uptake of feminist egalitarian discourse argues that through such discourse in social work masters programmes, coherence with universal humanistic ideology is heightened, challenging both neoliberal ideologies and statutory led practices. The current paper describes the shared ideas around feminism and social work profession. Based on the theoretical discourses, it attempts to contextualise the practice framework for feminist social work. It seeks to present few efficacious initiatives in the form of case studies from Indian grassroots and highlight various success stories based on social work practice from a feminist perspective. During the emergence of a novel pandemic, predictive modelling process is more important in the phase of public health planning and response. Relating models to data provides a view into unseen variables, such as the occurrence of cryptic transmission and the prevalence of infection. These models allow exploration of counterfactuals and hypothetical interventions. Predictive modelling is a valuable model based on the clear definition and estimation of the variables. Researchers or policy makers who use the model outputs have a clear understanding of what can and cannot be achieved by this method. The results of this study are suggested that substantially more cases were present in many countries than were reported in the official statistics. In this paper we have identified the potential discrepancy between reported cases and true disease burden provided a crucial early warning to the international community. This paper describes the development of flexibility through my personal views and involvement in researching this complex concept. It differentiates between two modelling perspectives: the bottom-up perspective (from the flexibility of elements to integrated flexibility) of the early researchers for modelling flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) and the more recent top-down perspective, from flexibility as a strategy to resources needed for implementing it. The bottom-up perspective is represented here by three papers. One paper focuses on Petri nets as a modelling tool, another offers a multi-factor design of experiments (DOE) view on factors affecting the performances of an FMS, and the third one presents a framework of logistic flexibility. The top-down perspective focuses on supply chain flexibility and uses quality function deployment (QFD) as a hierarchical modelling technique. An original framework for analysing the flexibility of generic objects, utilising cloud diagrams, is also presented. In all these papers a variety of changes that flexibility has to cope with are modelled, enabling the viewing of flexibility as a powerful ingredient for responding to changes and reducing risks in uncertain and changeable environments. Minimisation of earliness and tardiness is known to be critical to manufacturing companies because it may induce numerous tangible and intangible problems, i.e. extra storage cost, spacing, risk of damages, penalty, etc. In literature, earliness and tardiness is usually determined based on order due date, generally regarded as the time of delivering the finished products to the customers. In many papers, delivery time and cost required are usually simplified during the production scheduling. They usually assume that transportation is always available and unlimited. However, transportation usually constructs a critical portion of the total lead time and total cost in practice. Ignoring that will lead to an unreliable schedule. This is especially significant for electronic household appliances manufacturing companies as the studied company in this paper. In general, they usually rely on sea-freight transportation because of the economic reasons. As different sea-freight forwarders have different shipments to the same destination but with different shipping lead time, cost and available time. Adequately considering this shipping information with the production scheduling as an integrated model can minimise the costs induced by earliness and tardiness and the reliability of the schedule planned. In this paper, a two-level genetic algorithm (TLGA) is proposed, which is capable of simultaneously determining production schedule with shipping information. The optimisation reliability of the proposed TLGA is tested by comparing with a simple genetic algorithm. The results indicated that the proposed TLGA can obtain a better solution with lesser number of evolutions. In addition, a number of numerical experiments are carried out. The traditional production model development assumed that all products are perfect quality and did not consider maintenance, which is far from reality. In practice, the production process may shift randomly from an in-control state to an out-of-control state during a production run, i.e. process deterioration. This paper considers both preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance which are used to increase the system reliability. The objective of this paper is to determine the optimal production run time and maintenance frequency while minimising the total cost under process deterioration and trade credit. This paper develops a theorem and an algorithm to solve the problem described, provides numerical analysis to illustrate the proposed solution procedure, and discusses the impact of various system parameters. This paper considers a production problem for a transfer line subject to random failures and repairs, and differs from other studies on transfer lines. It considers a manufacturing system consisting of three machines (two machines with passive redundancy, and one in series with the previous ones) producing one part type. The control problem is subject to non-negative constraints on work-in-process (WIP). The decision variables are the production rates of two main machines and a standby machine, and influence the WIP levels, the inventory levels and the system's capacity, which is assumed to be described by a finite-state Markov chain. The objective of this paper is to minimise WIP and finished goods inventory costs; it also aims to respect the essential space–time during intervention on machine down, in order to minimise the possibility of the circumvention of protection devices or of the retraction of lockout/tagout procedures through a passive redundancy system. This paper therefore verifies the effect of passive redundancy on optimal stock levels. Given that an analytical or even a numerical solution of the problem is very difficult to find, and that we want to have a more realistic model for industries, we present a combined approach, which is presented based on a combination of analytical formalism, simulation modelling, design of experiments, and response surface methodology to optimise a transfer line with passive redundancy, producing one part type. This is a very interesting paper that develops nonparametric identification results and and semiparametric estimators for a nonparametric and semiparametric nonclassical measurement error model using a combination of a primary data set and an auxiliary data set. Their estimator not only achieves the semiparametric efficiency bound when the conditional regression model is correctly specified parametrically, but also performs well in finite sample simulation designs. In their paper, an application of their method to studying the relation between the amount of beta-carotene from food and the latent true daily long-term intake of beta-carotene using two data sets from the Eating at America's Table Study (EATS) and the Observing Protein and Energy Nutrition study shows that ignoring measurement errors in the EATS data set leads to substantial attenuation bias in the regression coefficient. Digital human models (DHM) allow for a proactive ergonomic assessment of products by applying different models describing the user-product interaction. In engineering design, DHM tools are currently not established as computer-aided ergonomics tools, since (among other reasons) the interaction models are either cumbersome to use, unstandardised, time-demanding or not trustworthy. To understand the challenges in interaction modelling, we conducted a systematic literature review with the aim of identification, classification and examination of existing interaction models. A schematic user–product interaction model for DHM is proposed, abstracting existing models and unifying the corresponding terminology. Additionally, nine general approaches to proactive interaction modelling were identified by classifying the reviewed interaction models. The approaches are discussed regarding their scope, limitations, strength and weaknesses. Ultimately, the literature review revealed that prevalent interaction models cannot be considered unconditionally suitable for engineering design since none of them offer a satisfactory combination of genuine proactivity and universal validity. What role does social media play for interprofessional education in a pandemic? This is the first pandemic to occur in a world filled with social media, where digital communication is ubiquitous and a high percentage of those affected are digitally literate. This paper situated within a United Kingdom (UK) context explores this new phenomenon, discussing the ways in which digital gift giving toward health and social care professionals has developed on a variety of social media platforms. This discussion proposes a theoretical understanding of digital gift giving and raises the importance of digital resilience for interprofessional learning and working. Reflections are made on the expected and imagined reciprocity of digital gift giving and the talismanic nature of employing symbols digitally to ward off COVID-19. This paper employs an ethnographic lens to unpack the issue of digital gift giving and recommends preparing students for the onslaught of digital gifts they may be exposed to upon entering the workplace. Academics are called on as the mediators of these recommendations, and suggestions are made as to how students can be best prepared for a digitally saturated interprofessional practice. This paper explores a range of theoretical models of resilience and human development to understand the concept of resilience as it has developed over time and how it is understood today. These include both classic and contemporary ideas such as those of Bronfenbrenner, Masten, Rutter and, more recently, Downes and Ungar. Building on this analysis, the paper proposes a new model, taking key elements of established theories to offer a dynamic and interactive model of resilience (DIMoR). This model recognises individual agency and its complex reciprocal interactions both with other individuals but also with the wider system within which the individual is situated. Background: Patient-centred work is an essential part of contemporary medicine. Literature shows that educational interventions contribute to developing patient-centredness, but there is a lack of insight into the associated learning processes. Objective: Through reviewing articles about educational interventions involving patients, we aspire to develop a program theory that describes the processes through which the educational interventions are expected to result in change. The processes will clarify contextual elements (called contexts) and mechanisms connected to learning patient-centredness. Methods: In our realist review, an initial, rough program theory was generated during the scoping phase, we searched for relevant articles in PubMed, PsycINFO, ERIC, CINAHL and Embase for all years before and through 2016. We included observational studies, case reports, interviews, and experimental studies in which the participants were students, residents, doctors, nurses or dentists. The relevance and rigour of the studies were taken into account during analysis. With deductive as well as inductive coding, we extended the rough program theory. Results: In our review, we classified five different contexts which affect how upcoming professionals learn patient-centredness. These aspects are influenced through components in the intervention(s) related to the learner, the teacher, and the patient. We placed the mechanisms together in four clusters – comparing and combining as well as broadening perspectives, developing narratives and engagement with patients, self-actualisation, and socialisation – to show how the development of (dimensions of) patient-centredness occurs. Three partial-program-theories (that together constituting a whole program theory) were developed, which show how different components of interventions within certain contexts will evoke mechanisms that contribute to patient-centredness. Translation into daily practice: These theories may help us better understand how the roles of patients, learners and teachers interact with contexts such as the kind of knowledge that is considered legitimate or insight in the whole illness trajectory. Empowerment has received considerable attention in the past four decades and become a threshold framework in the field of social work. Using the Theory Evaluation Scale (TES), this paper critically analyzed the empowerment theory with regard to coherence, conceptual clarity, philosophical assumptions, historical roots, testability, empiricism, boundaries, client context, and human agency within the environment. Based on a thorough review of the literature, the empowerment theory generated an overall score of 39 on the TES. Contrary to popular criticisms, this score demonstrates the epistemological soundness and overall quality of empowerment as a theoretical model. This paper has implications for theory and research by showing that empowerment is an ideal framework for the mixed-methods research paradigm. This paper also has implications for social work practice where empowerment is seen as a countermeasure to traditional practice models which promoted therapists as experts. That is, the findings suggest that social workers at all levels of intervention – micro, mezzo, and macro – can continue to embrace empowerment as the model to help clients influence their own lives. The migration of chemicals from food contact materials into foods is an important issue in food safety. The assessment of materials compliance with regulations includes migration monitoring for many monomers and additives. However, it is recognized that predictive mathematical modelling can be used in many cases, to avoid or to reduce the effort on migration experiments. This article reviews the approaches followed to apply mathematical models to migration, particularly the models used, the approaches to estimate model parameters, and the systems used to experimentally validate the models. The product-service system (PSS) is an emerging manufacturing paradigm embracing the increased value of offering through the integration of products and services as a basis of competitive strategy. The PSS has various characteristics beyond the traditional product-selling businesses as a result of intense customer interactions and increased service levels. These interactions can further trigger the dynamic behaviour of the system and consequently can cause uncertainties across the whole network of manufacturers and customers. The work described in this paper is part of a research project whose overall goal is to provide the manufacturing system designers with better decision making capabilities to effectively shift their manufacturing businesses from product selling to PSS offering. In particular, this paper aims to capture typical characteristics exhibited by manufacturers who have adopted PSS, to better understand their dynamic behaviour, to have appreciation of the existing techniques and tools for modelling PSS, and ultimately to search for PSS model parameters. The main contribution of this paper is the collation of key model parameters that should be considered for an effective PSS modelling. Global and complex supply chains are being increasingly exposed to the disruptions caused by disasters occurring in any part of the world. As a result, the business firms are facing a challenge to design resilient supply chains which could avoid or at least minimise the effect of disruptions caused by natural or manmade disasters. Procurement being one of the initial supply chain activity ensures undisrupted supply of raw material. In global business operations, especially in global sourcing, any disaster is likely to effect the entire supply chain. Therefore, the procurement planning of a business organisation must consider the disaster resilience aspect. The paper proposes disaster resilient procurement framework. The framework involves resilient supplier selection process as a proactive approach to disaster resilient supply chain. The paper also proposes two mathematical models for disaster resilient procurement for both proactive and reactive situations. In proactive situation, the model preferably allocates orders to disaster resilient suppliers. However, in disruptions, the proposed reactive model considers disruptions and reallocate orders to minimise penalties incurred on any shortages. Hence, the proposed framework aims to achieve operational excellence by minimising the risk/effect of disruptions and cost at the same time which is also demonstrated using different case scenarios. Reflection has been integrated in many healthcare educations programs to achieve deeper learning and improve professional practice. A variety of evaluation tools are used to assess reflection, but few guides are available to inform educators in their choice of a relevant evaluation tool. The aim of this paper is to identify all existing evaluation tools published along with their strengths and weaknesses. A review strategy retrieved tools available in Medline, PsychInfo, CINALH and Eric databases. The procedures outlined by Munn and colleagues were used to synthetize the information. Additionally, the reflection dimensions assessed in each tool (when sufficient information was available) were analyzed deductively, using thematic analysis according to the Killion and Todnem framework. Subthemes were identified inductively. Forty-five papers were identified, reporting on 34 different tools. The tools were based on a variety of theoretical models. Some had evidence of adequate validity and fidelity. Eleven components of reflection were identified across tools. No tool encompassed all components, but most tools included between three and five components. Context surrounding evaluation should be carefully considered when choosing an evaluation tool for reflection. Transforming an observable phenomenon into a tractable model is a challenging process, from determining the appropriate modeling scale to making realistic simplifying assumptions. However, many modeling texts are anchored around problems that have already been synthesized into a digestible format, which inhibits an opportunity to engage students in the decision-making process that leads to a model's design. In this paper, I discuss course elements that provide opportunities for students to participate in the early stages of a model's construction. These include open-ended projects and deconstructed textbook problems, which I explore within the context of an applied mathematical modeling seminar that emphasizes models from the life sciences. This paper deals with the optimisation of two-levels assembly system planning. This system is composed of a single machine, inventories at levels 1 and 2 for stock keeping components to assembly and final assembled product. It assumed that the machine processes all assembly operations and is subject to random failure. A mathematical model is developed to incorporate a supply planning for two-level assembly systems under stochastic lead times and breakdowns machine. A preventive maintenance plan is carried out to reduce the frequency of the corrective maintenance actions. This work has double goals. The first one is to find the optimal order release dates for the different components at level 2 and the optimal preventive maintenance plan. The second one is to quantify the risk due to machine failures which have an impact on the lead-time of the finished product. To consider the maintenance actions, preventive maintenance actions are perfectly performed to restore the machine to state "as good as new", minimal repair is considered at failure. The model minimises the total cost, which is the sum of inventory holding cost for components at levels 1 and 2, backlogging and inventory holding cost for the finished products and maintenance costs. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model, different meta-heuristics are applied; the genetic algorithm shows the most suited to our analytical model, the optimal release date founded by this algorithm allows finding the optimal preventive maintenance plan. This paper investigates an energy-conscious hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with unrelated parallel machines (HFSP-UPM) with the energy-saving strategy of turning off and on. We first analyse the energy consumption of HFSP-UPM and formulate five mixed integer linear programming (MILP) models based on two different modelling ideas namely idle time and idle energy. All the models are compared both in size and computational complexities. The results show that MILP models based on different modelling ideas vary dramatically in both size and computational complexities. HFSP-UPM is NP-Hard, thus, an improved genetic algorithm (IGA) is proposed. Specifically, a new energy-conscious decoding method is designed in IGA. To evaluate the proposed IGA, comparative experiments of different-sized instances are conducted. The results demonstrate that the IGA is more effective than the genetic algorithm (GA), simulating annealing algorithm (SA) and migrating birds optimisation algorithm (MBO). Compared with the best MILP model, the IGA can get the solution that is close to an optimal solution with the gap of no more than 2.17% for small-scale instances. For large-scale instances, the IGA can get a better solution than the best MILP model within no more than 10% of the running time of the best MILP model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The assembly line balancing problem can completely vary from one production line to the other. This paper deals with a realistic assembly line for the automotive industry inspired by Fiat Chrysler Automotive in North America and Parskhodro in Iran (both large-scale automotive companies). This problem includes some specific requirements that have not been studied in the literature. For example, the assembly line is five-sided, and workers can move along these sides. Due to the limited workspace, all the sides cannot work simultaneously at one station. First, a mixed integer linear programming model is proposed for the problem. Then, the model is improved to have a tighter linear relaxation. Moreover, an effective logic-based Benders' decomposition algorithm is developed. After careful analysis of problem's structure, three propositions are introduced. The master problem is well restricted by eight valid inequalities. Two different sub-problem types are defined to extract more information from the master problem's solution. In this case, the algorithm adds effective cuts that reduce the solution space to the extent possible at each iteration. Thus, the number of iterations is significantly cut down. This paper discusses the theories of and the relationships between the direct and indirect methods of standardizing death rates for males, females, and persons. The author notes that the standardization procedures have two objectives, to eliminate the disturbing influences of varying age and sex distributions, and to provide reliable indications of the overall comparative mortalities of different groups. The author also points out that the Registrar General's methods and publications have always fulfilled the objectives in a thorough and practical manner.

Manufacturing service scheduling (MSS) is an important step in managing the social resource services in the cloud manufacturing (CMfg) system. However, recent research investigates the problem almost from the task level, and little research considers the demands of multiple users in MSS problem. In this paper, the obvious characteristics of multi-user-oriented MSS are analysed by comparing with the multi-task-oriented MSS problem, and then a multi-user-oriented MSS mathematical model is built to cater to the practical demands of multiple users. In order to solve the proposed model, an improved NSGA-II (INSGA-II), integrating k-means algorithm and local search strategy, is developed to improve the quality of solutions. Six scenarios are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by comparing with other three algorithms from four metrics. The flexibility and universality of the proposed model is examined and the effect of user requirements on the Pareto solution is analysed. This paper studies an integrated control strategy of production and maintenance for a machining system which produces a single type of product to meet the constant demand. Different from previous research, we assume in this study that during the production, the production rate not only influences the life of cutting tool, but also the reliability of the machine. Both the replacement of cutting tool and the preventive maintenance (PM) of machine are considered in this paper. The machine is preventively maintained at theNth tool replacement or correctively repaired at the machine failure, whichever occurs first. PM and corrective repair may cause shortage which can be reduced by controlling inventory. There are two decision variablespandN, wherepdenotes the production rate andNdenotes the number of cutting tool replacement before the PM is performed. An integrated model is developed to simultaneously determine the optimal production rate and PM policy that minimise the total expected cost per unit item produced. Purpose: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People with a disability continue to experience barriers to service engagement such as mistrust of government services, lack of culturally appropriate support, marginalisation and disempowerment. This meta-synthesis reviews current literature regarding these experiences to explain why services are underutilised. Methods: The meta-synthesis was conducted using a meta-ethnographic approach to synthesise existing studies into new interpretive knowledge. The approach was supported by a search using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Results: Ten original research papers utilising a qualitative methodology were extracted. Synthesis of the articles revealed four concepts that were developed into a conceptual model. These include:1) History Matters; 2) Cultural Understanding of Disability Care; 3) Limitations to Current Service Provision; and 4) Delivery of Effective Services. Conclusions: Disability services do not adequately consider the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People or communicate in a culturally appropriate manner. There are expectations that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People acknowledge their disability in alignment with western definitions of disability in order to access services. More work is needed to align disability services with culturally appropriate support to provide better health outcomes. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a disability continue to experience barriers to service engagement which must be addressed. An essential gap that must be filled in providing disability services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is the acknowledgment of culture as a resolute influence on all client interactions with providers. A cultural model of disability may better align with the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people than current medical and social models used in healthcare. The student experience with mathematical modelling has the potential to differ in nature to the experience of a typical mathematics student. The research reported in this paper forms part of a broader study looking into tertiary learning experiences for mathematical modelling. This paper reports on: What are the student experiences when learning to mathematically model? How might these experiences inform mathematics education? Data were collected across two different tertiary mathematical modelling courses in the form of student interviews. Student interviews were analysed, using reflective thematic analysis, to identify themes relating to the collective student learning experience. The results show that modelling provides an opportunity for students to be actively involved with their learning. Being open-minded was a key behaviour for a productive student experience. Applied physics and computer methods in biomechanics have been extensively used in sports science research, including performance and biomechanics analysis. The Brachistochrone problem, which expresses the curve that an object draws quickly under gravitational forces in a vertical position, is one of the most widely used studies in classical mechanics. A similar problem arises when a badminton player intends to hit a smash with the shortest shot time. This paper aims to determine the optimal stroke trajectory for a shuttlecock smash in the shortest time. We simulate the badminton smash movement using a computer program after analyzing the shuttlecock smash analytically and numerically for several conditions. The modeling results show that a cycloid trajectory allows badminton players to smash the shuttlecock in the shortest time. Based on the experimental findings of Tsai, Huang, and Jih's study and our models, the ratio of clear speed to smash speed is 0.75, which is still in the range of 0.71 to 0.76, and we find that a cycloid trajectory gives the shortest shuttlecock smash time. We concluded that the experimental data from this study's literature supported our model. The novelty of this study is that we found the first powerful model and simulation of conventional Brachistochrone in the case of a badminton smash of badminton players. For badminton coaches and players, this model formulation is intended as a reference for optimizing shuttlecock shots. Furthermore, another novelty of this research is that it may lead to software that can be used to analyze the muscle strength of badminton players based on their cycloid hand trajectory and shuttlecock speed. Additive manufacturing (AM) has seen a rapid growth in recent times, and it is also known as 3D printing. It utilises a 3D CAD model for the fabrication of a part using layer-by-layer deposition due to which the produced part has a staircase effect which causes increased surface roughness. This problem can be reduced by predicting the surface roughness values in pre-processing. In this paper, the existing prediction models to study the surface roughness quality were compared with the suggested prediction model, and the prospects for further research in this field are discussed. This paper describes a teaching experiment in a Numerical Methods course for Master of Science students. The experiment uses scientific papers to develop modelling studies in the context of wine fermentation microbial interactions. The course involves theoretical and laboratory classes that focus on implementing numerical methods using Matlab for Initial Value Problems and Boundary Value Problems. The students are asked to formalise the mathematical model and build their own experiments using the information provided in the papers. Additionally, a parameter estimation experiment is organised, which involves generating synthetic data and computing noisy data to estimate the natural death rate of sensitive yeast. The results show that data noise significantly affects the parameter estimate and that scaling the data can help reduce the impact of measurement errors. The presented results can be used to investigate other possible assignments, such as how the evaluation of the Jacobian affects the estimation performance and compare different optimisation algorithms. Mathematical modelling has great potential to motivate students towards studying mathematics. This article discusses several different approaches to integrating research work with a second-year undergraduate, mathematical modelling subject. I found sourcing papers from the areas of epidemiology and ecology to be a fruitful source area, particularly models involving only two or three coupled differential equations. These models were amenable to students as well as interesting and relevant to students because they came from real research papers. I will describe the use of scenarios and case studies in lectures, and group projects for assessment. The scenarios and case studies were published in a textbook that I wrote. Scenarios, case studies and projects provided an opportunity to expose students to some novel applications of differential equations. The secondary suspension of railway vehicles is fundamental for their dynamic behaviour. This paper outlines a model-based procedure for predicting and evaluating the influence of different parameters in the static stiffness and vibration transmission of an air spring employed in the secondary suspension system of a railway vehicle. For that aim, a detailed and experimentally validated finite element model of the air spring is defined. It includes the behaviour of the reinforced elastomer, the inner pressure-deformation coupling and the thermodynamic interactions taking place inside the bellow. A Computer Aided Design of Experiments is employed to evaluate the influence of seven construction parameters of the bellow. Experimental tests and simulation results show that the air spring has natural frequencies below 100 Hz, in the frequency range where structure-borne vibration transmission occurs. The cord angle modifies the axial-transversal stiffness relation and a larger separation between adjacent layers and fibres delay the vibration transmissibility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ability to demonstrate empathy is identified as a key social work attribute by the professional regulator and other professional bodies as well as in government guidance and the relevant QAA Subject Benchmark Statement. Empathy is strongly linked to the ability to learn from experience and, as such, has relevance beyond social work to higher education in general. This paper will focus on how a phenomenological approach to theorising empathy might provide a framework for the development of the social work curriculum. I argue that representational accounts of interpersonal understanding offer a conception of empathy that is both limited and hubristic. From a representational perspective, empathy involves making informed guesses about the experiences of other people, often described using the overused metaphor of 'walking in their shoes' (Lathrop & Parish 1895). In contrast, an enactivist understanding of interpersonal relations, based on a phenomenological approach, provides a more hopeful and socially just basis for social work practice. It also has clear implications for teaching approaches and curriculum design in social work education including a focus on the student- teacher relationship, embodied practice, and more effective use of simulation. In this paper, we establish the truncated Euler-Maruyama (EM) method for stochastic functional differential equation (SFDE) and consider the strong convergence theory for the numerical solutions of SFDEs under the local Lipschitz condition plus Khasminskii-type condition instead of the linear growth condition. Angrist and Pischke (2017) call for a pedagogical paradigm shift by pointing out that econometrics courses often do not align with modern empirical approaches employed by economists. This article's authors propose a modern capstone experience, designed to address these concerns by integrating econometrics into the traditional capstone approach. They couple a full econometrics course with a traditional capstone course by weaving a cohesive econometrics-heavy research paper through the two courses. They feel this approach addresses the lack of econometrics skills among economics majors while simultaneously making some necessary improvements to undergraduate econometrics content. They hope this article will be a valuable resource for programs changing course requirements or revamping their curriculum to better fit the increasing demand for data analysis skills in the job market. New modes of neoliberal and rights-based reproductive governance are emerging across the world which either paradoxically foreclose access to universal health services or promote legislative reform without providing a continuum of services on the ground. These shifts present new opportunities for the expansion but also the limitation of abortion provision conceptually and ‘on-the-ground’, both in the Global North and South. Background: Best practice in physical therapy education requires good quality and quantity of research based on authentic learning settings and teaching practices. Facilitating large multisite research and large data sets for analysis has the potential to contribute to a strong research base. Clinical research makes use of international and interprofessional consortiums to produce quantity and quality of research outcomes. Objectives: The paper aimed to investigate international and interprofessional co-authorship in educational research in a single journal and describe two collaborative models. Methods: The paper has two sections. (1) A review of co-authorship in 113 papers published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Education over a three and a half year period (2014 to 2017). (2) Two models of collaboration in educational research are described. Results: The literature review highlighted a pattern of almost no international collaborations but close to 27% of papers with interprofessional collaborations. Two collaborative models were presented, one an international and intraprofessional model and the second an international and interprofessional research approach. Conclusions: It is argued that creating consortiums with international and interprofessional health professionals will progress the quality of educational research in physical therapy, assisting with our educational decision-making and further improving on our learning and teaching practices. Considering carbon emissions when making supply chain decisions has been an essential contributor for keeping this world more sustainable. This paper presents a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model to optimize production and transportation decision where the transportation activities involve a multimodal combination. The proposed mathematical model was aimed at mini- mizing the total costs incurred from supply chain activities as well as the emissions generated. Carbon cap is used to ensure that the emissions produced in the whole activities do not exceed the allowable limit. In this research, we address a multi- product, multi-plant, multi-departure, and arrival stations where multiple customers are to be served for multiple periods. The numerical tests show that the demand, carbon tax, and distance significantly affected the total emissions and the total costs. Interestingly, we observed that the decisions are much more affected by the logistical costs rather than the emission costs. The objective of this paper is to propose a conceptual model of a virtual reference service (VRS) time estimation system that can estimate and display the time required to complete a transaction. The system will start estimating the duration before initiation of a transaction and update the estimated duration with the changing complexity of the transaction. Literature on industrial time estimation techniques and artificial-intelligence based VRS programs are reviewed to identify the gap. Four flowcharts are constructed with the aid of machine learning techniques like random forest regression and speech recognition, and natural language processing techniques like intent and entity recognition, and weighting. The pre-estimating, estimating, and post-estimating stages of the system are vividly explained with an example to enlighten the time-estimation process. The limitation of the paper is that the system is not practically developed and tested. However, developing such a system will help in transparent and unbiased transaction time estimation and assist the library professionals to manage queue time and maintain consistent timeliness. The estimated time may be used as a benchmark for evaluating different aspects of VRS. It is recognized worldwide that evidence on what effectively prevents abuse of at-risk adults (including older people) is lacking. The purpose of this paper is to make an explicit, contemporary proposal as to why front-line workers and policy-makers interested in preventing the abuse of at-risk adults should adopt an opportunity-focused, problem-oriented policing framework from criminology. This paper will first position the proposal within the current context of responses to the abuse of at-risk adults. Following this, the paper will outline how the problem-oriented policing framework can develop targeted, collaborative, sustainable, and measurable prevention strategies intended to remove the opportunity for specific examples of abuse of at-risk adults. This paper analyzes the dynamic performance of the predictive current control (PCC) scheme for a single-phase grid-connected (SPGC) voltage source inverter (VSI). VSI performance and its operating conditions, such as steady-state and dynamic-state, have been analyzed. Conventionally a linear current error (eL)-based control technique is used, which has poorer current tracking during dynamic conditions. In this paper, a novel control technique has been proposed that utilizes a non-linear current error (eNL) based on the instantaneous grid voltage and DC-link voltage to calculate the switching instant, which gives better tracking performance during the dynamic condition. A mathematical model of digitally controlled PCC predicts the load current for all switching states of the inverter. Calculations of these predicted current values are done by using a cost function. The switching state with minimum cost function is selected and applied to the inverter for improved dynamic performance. The effect of parameter variations, such as load current, DC-link voltage etc., has been investigated. The performance of the proposed method has been tested at different sampling frequencies. In the precalculus curriculum, logistic growth generally appears in either a discrete or continuous setting. These actually feature distinct versions of logistic growth, and textbooks rarely provide exposure to both. In this paper, we show how each approach can be improved by incorporating an aspect of the other, based on a little known synthesis of the two approaches. The ultimate goal of the paper is to encourage precalculus instructors teaching either version of logistic growth to consider incorporating our proposed changes in their classes. This methodological commentary focuses on the use of ethnography for health and rehabilitation practitioners. In recent years, ethnography has become a methodology of choice amongst diagnostic radiography researchers at uncovering phenomena pertinent to the clinical setting. This paper adds to the evidence base by providing not only a methodology account from two experienced researchers, but also offers a paradigmatic approach to ethnography that incorporates qualitative and quantitative approaches. It details an alternate ideological discourse in alignment with the role of a diagnostic radiographer, which can be replicated in other disciplines and thus offering an array of empirical opportunity for prospective health and rehabilitation practitioners. This paper provides an introduction into the use of ethnography for health and rehabilitation practitioners. The authors reflect on the value of ethnography in order to satisfy a researcher's aims and objectives. The authors provide an "umbrella strategy" that can be used by other prospective health and rehabilitation researchers.
