Since public support is critical for implementing carbon pricing policies, we conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the survey-based literature on change in public support for direct and indirect carbon pricing policies with and without revenue recycling options. Following a comprehensive and transparent machine-learning assisted screening of the literature, our dataset comprises 35 studies containing 70 surveys across 26 countries with over 100,000 respondents. We find that the introduction of any type of revenue recycling option increases public support for carbon pricing. Results from our meta-regression indicate that green spending (i.e. using revenues for climate-friendly projects) is the only revenue recycling option associated with a statistically significant increase in public support. Our findings moreover suggest that the effects may depend on which region the survey was carried out, highlighting the need for additional research in countries in the regions of Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean. AMPylation is a biologically significant yet understudied post-translational modification where an adenosine monophosphate (AMP) group is added to Tyrosine and Threonine residues primarily. While recent work has illuminated the prevalence and functional impacts of AMPylation, experimental identification of AMPylation sites remains challenging. Computational prediction techniques provide a faster alternative approach. The predictive performance of machine learning models is highly dependent on the features used to represent the raw amino acid sequences. In this work, we introduce a novel feature extraction pipeline to encode the key properties relevant to AMPylation site prediction. We utilize a recently published dataset of curated AMPylation sites to develop our feature generation framework. We demonstrate the utility of our extracted features by training various machine learning classifiers, on various numerical representations of the raw sequences extracted with the help of our framework. Tenfold cross-validation is used to evaluate the model's capability to distinguish between AMPylated and non-AMPylated sites. The top-performing set of features extracted achieved MCC score of 0.58, Accuracy of 0.8, AUC-ROC of 0.85 and F1 score of 0.73. Further, we elucidate the behaviour of the model on the set of features consisting of monogram and bigram counts for various representations using SHapley Additive exPlanations. Empirical data from several cities worldwide show that low consideration rates of bus transit constitute an important reason for declining transit mode share. This trend raises a critical question: why do not more commuters consider buses for travel? The aim of this paper is to investigate the key deterrents to bus transit consideration among commuters. Consideration refers to the decision of an individual to include a given mode in his/her choice set. Along this line, this study focuses on two important directions. The first is to gain an understanding of how the key factors and their influence on consideration propensity differ across market segments based on personal vehicle availability and accessibility. The second is to quantify the spatial heterogeneity in the influence of those key factors across geographical locations. A new geographically weighted segmented logistic regression (GWSLR) model is proposed to address these research issues. The model is developed using household survey data from a sample of work-commuters from Chennai city, India. The findings reveal that neglecting either segmentation or spatial heterogeneity cannot only result in inaccurate model predictions and inferences, but also lead to sub-optimal policy interventions. Results show that factors influencing consideration differ significantly across segments based on captivity and accessibility. Choice users within walking distance to bus stops can benefit from direct bus service, whereas those beyond walking distance prioritise first-mile connectivity. Results also highlight significant variations in the influence of different factors across locations. Improved walkability in central business districts (CBD) could increase consideration, while non-CBD areas should focus on first-mile connectivity. Finally, this study illustrates that customised policy interventions for specific segments and locations can be more effective in enhancing bus consideration than segment-agnostic or geographically uniform policies. This study investigates the binding affinity and interactions of the Furin enzyme with two inhibitors, Naphthofluorescein and decanoyl-RVKR-chloromethylketone (CMK), using molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Molecular docking results showed binding affinities of − 9.18 kcal/mol for CMK and − 5.39 kcal/mol for Naphthofluorescein. To further understand the stability and conformational changes of these complexes, MD simulations were performed. Despite CMK's favorable docking score, MD simulations revealed that its binding interactions at the Furin-active site were unstable, with significant changes observed during the simulation. In contrast, Naphthofluorescein maintained strong and stable interactions throughout the MD simulation, as confirmed by RMSD and RMSF analyses. The binding-free-energy analysis also supported the stability of Naphthofluorescein. These findings indicate that Naphthofluorescein exhibits greater stability and binding affinity as a Furin inhibitor compared to CMK. The results of this in-silico study suggest that Naphthofluorescein, along with CMK, holds the potential for repurposing as a treatment for COVID-19, subject to further validation through clinical studies. Group 10 transition metal dichalcogenide PtSe2 has drawn considerable attention toward the search for an efficient visible light photocatalyst due to its strong light–matter interaction nature. Here we report PtSe2/TiO2 heterostructure for solar energy conversion through photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. The PtSe2/TiO2 heterostructure was prepared by sputtered Pt film followed by the chemical vapor deposition method. Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the growth of hexagonal phase PtSe2 and anatase TiO2 corresponding to their distinguished peak characteristics. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy studies reveal that TiO2 nanotubes were decorated with PtSe2 nanoflakes forming PtSe2/TiO2 heterostructure. The chemical composition of the prepared samples was studied by using the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and indicated the sole presence of PtSe2 and TiO2 compounds. The PEC measurements were taken in 0.5 M Na2SO4 electrolyte solution under simulated sunlight (AM = 1.5 G). The maximum photocurrent density of ~ 234.7 µA/cm2 at 1.4 V versus RHE was recorded for PtSe2/TiO2 heterostructure, which is 1.7 times higher than that of Pt/TiO2. The improved PEC performance of PtSe2/TiO2 as a result of efficient solar absorption over a wider spectrum and effective charge separation produced by type-II band alignment between PtSe2 and TiO2. Global public health confronts a pressing challenge in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), necessitating urgent intervention strategies due to the low success rate of new antibiotic development. Bacterial motility, beyond conventional antibiotic usage, significantly influences resistance evolution and ecological dynamics. Our recent study marks a breakthrough, revealing the unexplored ability of ultrafine gold nanosystems (UGNs) to inhibit bacterial resuscitation using a motile Escherichia coli (E.coli) K12 strain. We aim to deepen our comparative understanding of UGNs' efficacy and resuscitation propensity against a non-motile E. coli K12 strain to assess the role of motility. Through UGN application, we identified heritable resistance in both strains, with motile strains exhibiting notably higher mutation rates. Resuscitation experiments unveiled faster recovery in motile strains, attributable to virulence factors, compared to non-motile strains. Additionally, our investigation into aggregation dynamics highlighted the role of protein-mediated aggregation in resistance development to nano-antimicrobials. In recent decades, the traditional landscape of volatile organic compound (VOC) sensing has adopted a new perspective in enhancing the detection of useful VOCs using data intelligence to extract constructive insights of the sensor behaviour towards multiple gases. In the domain of gas sensing, VOCs such as acetone and ethanol have been widely used in sensor testing due to their closely related chemical properties, which poses a challenge in discrimination. Therefore, this study aims to discriminate acetone from ethanol with the use of readily available commercial metal oxide (MOx) sensors through the implementation of Deep Learning (DL) techniques. The data set obtained after exposing a sensing array comprising various MOx sensors to acetone and ethanol was converted to a time-frequency representation known as a scalogram to train and test a multi-input convolutional neural network (CNN). The results show that training the CNN model on the sensor array data set yields better results than with an individual sensor data set. The findings of this research substantiated the ability of DL models to better capture the dynamic interaction of the sensors with acetone and ethanol, leading to the implication of the DL classifier having the capacity to reject sensor inconsistencies and variations in the responses. This research holds promise for advancing health monitoring and disease detection, as the combination of MOx sensors and DL techniques is expected to make significant future contributions in these areas. Nitrate pollution of water emerging from various anthropogenic activities has become a major environmental concern because of its deleterious effects on natural water resources. The present work deals with the synthesis of the ternary nanocomposite based on chitosan, iron oxide (Fe3O4), and titanium dioxide (TiO2) and its application for the removal of nitrates from model-contaminated water. Fe3O4 derived through a coprecipitation method was incorporated into the chitosan matrix which was fabricated in the form of beads. The wet gel beads were then successfully coated with sol–gel-derived silver-doped titanium dioxide sol followed by drying under suitable conditions to get the functional nanocomposite beads. The synthesized functional materials were further characterized for their structural, morphological, and textural features using X-ray diffraction analysis, physical property measurement (PPMS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis, UV visible spectroscopy analysis (UV–vis), BET surface area analysis (BET), field emission scanning electron microscopic (FESEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. The ternary nanocomposites were further used for the removal of nitrates via adsorption cum photocatalytic reduction technique from the model contaminated water when subjected to an adsorption study under dark conditions and photocatalytic study under UV/visible/sunlight for a definite time. Fe3O4 in the nanocomposite provides enhanced adsorption features whereas the functional coating of titanium dioxide aids in the removal of nitrates through the photocatalytic reduction technique. The functional beads containing 3% Fe3O4 in the wet gel form (CTA-F3) have excellent nitrate removal efficiency of ~ 97% via adsorption cum solar photocatalysis towards the removal of nitrate ions from 50 ppm nitrate solution, whereas the dried nanocomposite beads have got a nitrate removal efficiency of ~ 68% in 1 h from 100 ppm nitrate solution. Continuous flow adsorption cum photocatalytic study was performed further using the oven-dried functional beads in which flow rate and bed height were varied while maintaining the concentration of feed solution as constant. A nitrate removal efficiency of 65% and an adsorption capacity of 4.1 mgg−1 were obtained for the CTA-F3 beads in the continuous flow adsorption cum photocatalysis experiment for up to 5 h when using an inlet concentration of 100 ppm, bed height 12 cm, and flow rate 5.0 ml min−1. A representative fixed-bed column adsorption experiment conducted using CTA-F3 beads for the treatment of a real groundwater sample shows reasonable results for nitrate removal (71.7% efficiency) along with a significant removal rate for the other anions as well. Thus, the novel adsorbent/photocatalyst developed is suitable for the removal of nitrates from water due to the synergistic effect between Fe3O4, chitosan, and titanium dioxide. Translation is regulated mainly in the initiation step, and its dysregulation is implicated in many human diseases. Several proteins have been found to regulate translational initiation, including Pdcd4 (programmed cell death gene 4). Pdcd4 is a tumor suppressor protein that prevents cell growth, invasion, and metastasis. It is downregulated in most tumor cells, while global translation in the cell is upregulated. To understand the mechanisms underlying translational control by Pdcd4, we used single-particle cryo-electron microscopy to determine the structure of human Pdcd4 bound to 40S small ribosomal subunit, including Pdcd4-40S and Pdcd4-40S-eIF4A-eIF3-eIF1 complexes. The structures reveal the binding site of Pdcd4 at the mRNA entry site in the 40S, where the C-terminal domain (CTD) interacts with eIF4A at the mRNA entry site, while the N-terminal domain (NTD) is inserted into the mRNA channel and decoding site. The structures, together with quantitative binding and in vitro translation assays, shed light on the critical role of the NTD for the recruitment of Pdcd4 to the ribosomal complex and suggest a model whereby Pdcd4 blocks the eIF4F-independent role of eIF4A during recruitment and scanning of the 5′ UTR of mRNA. Tumor suppressor protein Pdcd4 is downregulated in tumor cells, whereas global mRNA translation within these cells is upregulated. Objectives: To examine US in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and the associations with Baby-Friendly designation and neighborhood sociodemographic factors. Methods: Hospital data from the 2018 Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care survey were linked to hospital zip code tabulation area (ZCTA) sociodemographic data from the 2014–2018 American Community Survey (n = 2,024). The percentages of residents in the hospital ZCTA were dichotomized based on the relative mean percentage of the hospital's metropolitan area, which were exposure variables (high/low Black hospitals, high/low poverty hospitals, high/low educational attainment hospitals) along with Baby-Friendly designation. Using linear regression, we examined the associations and effect measure modification between Baby-Friendly designation and hospital sociodemographic factors with in-hospital EBF prevalence. Results: US mean in-hospital EBF prevalence was 55.1%. Baby-Friendly designation was associated with 9.1% points higher in-hospital EBF prevalence compared to non-designated hospitals [95% confidence interval (CI): 7.0, 11.2]. High Black hospitals and high poverty hospitals were associated with lower EBF prevalence (difference= -3.3; 95% CI: -5.1, -1.4 and − 3.8; 95% CI: -5.7, -1.8). High educational attainment hospitals were associated with higher EBF prevalence (difference = 6.7; 95% CI: 4.1, 9.4). Baby-Friendly designation was associated with significant effect measure modification of the in-hospital EBF disparity attributed to neighborhood level poverty (4.0% points higher in high poverty/Baby-Friendly designated hospitals than high poverty/non-Baby-Friendly designated hospitals). Significance: What is already known on this subject?: Few infants exclusively breastfeed (EBF) for the recommended 6 months. There are known sociodemographic disparities in EBF prevalence, yet little is known about neighborhood sociodemographic factors and the relationship with in-hospital EBF. Cyanobacterial biofertilizers provide soil fertility and productivity gains at varying levels in paddy rice cultivation. The colonization and influences of introduced strains in different soil types with characteristic compositions of native cyanobacteria remain largely unknown. In this work, seven paddy rice soils with the composition of indigenous cyanobacteria described by amplicon sequencing analysis were inoculated with the cyanobacterial biofertilizer. The microbial abundance and the cyanophage concentrations were evaluated under light-dark or continuous dark cycles using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assays. The copies of cyanobacterial-16S rRNA gene markers varied from 5.65 × 106 to 9.22 × 107 g-1 soil, and their abundance increased significantly in the inoculated soils. The cyanophage concentrations, quantified using the capsid assembly protein gene g20 in the soils tested, ranged from 3.04 × 108 to 9.24× 108 g-1 soil on 30 days after incubation. There were significant increases in the abundance of the nifH gene copies, about 1.54×105 to 1.35×106 g-1, in the inoculated soils, albeit with soil type-specific responses. The gene markers of C and N cycling (i.e., cbbL and nifH, respectively), taxonomic markers (of archaea, bacteria, and cyanobacteria), and cyanophage-specific gene copies showed strong and positive correlation with the cyanobacterial biofertilizer inoculation. However, the genes related to nitrification (bacterial and archaeal amoA) and denitrification (nirS, nirK, narG, and nosZ) were clustered together in the uninoculated soils. The rice rhizospheres in three representative paddy soil types, using metatranscriptomics analysis, showed distinctive colonization by cyanobacteria, with several members yet to be described. Purpose/background: Despite the growing use of bioabsorbable mesh in ventral hernia repairs (VHR), the evidence of its impact on patient outcomes remains limited. This study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety profile of poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB) mesh for ventral hernia repair through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: A literature search of five databases (PubMed, Embase, Ovid, Medline, and Google Scholar) produced a list of publications that analyzed the use of P4HB mesh in ventral hernia repair in both clean and contaminated cases. The primary postoperative outcomes of hernia recurrence, surgical site infections (SSI), and any complications were analyzed through a pooled meta-analysis. Results: In our systematic review, 21 studies met the inclusion criteria with a total of 1858 patients (933 males and 925 females) and an average age of 56.8 years. The median follow-up ranged from 1.6 to 62.3 months. In our meta-analysis, the use of P4HB mesh in VHR in proportion of events demonstrated a recurrence rate of 9% [6%; 15%], SSI of 10% [6%; 16%] and 35% [9%; 42%] for rate of any complications. Sub-meta-analysis restricted to studies with follow up > 18 months continues to show low rates of recurrence of 9% (95%CI, 4–17%), SSI of 9% (95%CI, 4–16%), and 31% (95%CI, 23–41%) for any complications. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that the use of P4HB mesh is both safe and effective in ventral hernia repairs. When further analyzed past 18 months, the time where P4HB mesh fully resorbs, the rates of hernia recurrence, SSI, and any complications remain low of upwards of 5 years and comparable to the rates seen in synthetic and biologics in similar patient populations. In this article, we consider the problem of determining formulas for the number of representations of a natural number n by a sum of figurate numbers with certain positive integer coefficients. To achieve this, we prove that the associated generating function gives rise to a modular form of integral weight under certain conditions on the coefficients when even number of higher figurate numbers are considered. In particular, we obtain the modular property of the generating function corresponding to a sum of even number of triangular numbers with coefficients. We also obtain the modularity property of the generating function of mixed forms involving figurate numbers (including the squares and triangular numbers) with coefficients and forms of the type m 2 + m n + n 2 with coefficients. In particular, we show the modularity of the generating function of odd number of squares and odd number of triangular numbers (with coefficients). As a consequence, explicit formulas for the number of representations of these mixed forms are obtained using a basis of the corresponding space of modular forms of integral weight. We also obtain several applications concerning the triangular numbers with coefficients similar to the ones obtained in Ono et al. (Aequat Math 50:73–94, 1995). In 2016, Xia et al. (Int J Number Theory 12:945–954) considered some special cases of mixed forms and obtained the number of representations of these 21 mixed forms using the (p, k) parametrization method. We also derive these 21 formulas using our method and further obtain as a consequence, the (p, k) parametrization of the Eisenstein series E 4 (τ) and its duplications. Clinical success with poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) is impeded by inevitable resistance and associated cytotoxicity. Depletion of Amplified in Liver Cancer 1 (ALC1), a chromatin-remodeling enzyme, can overcome these limitations by hypersensitizing BReast CAncer genes 1/2 (BRCA1/2) mutant cells to PARPi. Here, we demonstrate that PARPi hypersensitivity upon ALC1 loss is reliant on its role in promoting the repair of chromatin buried abasic sites. We show that ALC1 enhances the ability of the abasic site processing enzyme, Apurinic/Apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1) to cleave nucleosome-occluded abasic sites. However, unrepaired abasic sites in ALC1-deficient cells are readily accessed by APE1 at the nucleosome-free replication forks. APE1 cleavage leads to fork breakage and trapping of PARP1/2 upon PARPi treatment, resulting in hypersensitivity. Collectively, our studies reveal how cells overcome the chromatin barrier to repair abasic lesions and uncover cleavage of abasic sites as a mechanism to overcome limitations of PARPi. Loss of Amplified in Liver Cancer 1 (ALC1) has been shown to confer PARP inhibitor hypersensitivity in BRCA-mutant cells. Here, the authors show that in ALC1-deficient BRCA-mutant cells, APE1 cleaves abasic sites at the forks resulting in DNA breaks and thereby enhances PARP inhibitor sensitivity. A series of eleven public concerts (staging chamber music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Brett Dean, Johannes Brahms) was organized with the goal to analyze physiological synchronies within the audiences and associations of synchrony with psychological variables. We hypothesized that the music would induce synchronized physiology, which would be linked to participants' aesthetic experiences, affect, and personality traits. Physiological measures (cardiac, electrodermal, respiration) of 695 participants were recorded during presentations. Before and after concerts, questionnaires provided self-report scales and standardized measures of participants' affectivity, personality traits, aesthetic experiences and listening modes. Synchrony was computed by a cross-correlational algorithm to obtain, for each participant and physiological variable (heart rate, heart-rate variability, respiration rate, respiration, skin-conductance response), how much each individual participant contributed to overall audience synchrony. In hierarchical models, such synchrony contribution was used as the dependent and the various self-report scales as predictor variables. We found that physiology throughout audiences was significantly synchronized, as expected with the exception of breathing behavior. There were links between synchrony and affectivity. Personality moderated the synchrony levels: Openness was positively associated, Extraversion and Neuroticism negatively. Several factors of experiences and listening modes predicted synchrony. Emotional listening was associated with reduced, whereas both structual and sound-focused listening was associated with increased synchrony. We concluded with an updated, nuanced understanding of synchrony on the timescale of whole concerts, inviting elaboration by synchony studies on shorter timescales of music passages. Urinary tract infections (UTI) by antibiotic resistant and virulent K. pneumoniae are a growing concern. Understanding the genome and validating the genomic profile along with pangenome analysis will facilitate surveillance of high-risk clones of K. pneumoniae to underpin management strategies toward early detection. The present study aims to correlate resistome with phenotypic antimicrobial resistance and virulome with pathogenicity in Klebsiella spp. The present study aimed to perform complete genome sequences of Klebsiella spp. and to analyse the correlation of resistome with phenotypic antimicrobial resistance and virulome with pathogenicity. To understand the resistome, pangenome and virulome in the Klebsiella spp, the ResFinder, CARD, IS Finder, PlasmidFinder, PHASTER, Roary, VFDB were used. The phenotypic susceptibility profiling identified the uropathogenic kp3 to exhibit multi drug resistance. The resistome and in vitro antimicrobial profiling showed concordance with all the tested antibiotics against the study strains. Hypermucoviscosity was not observed for any of the test isolates; this phenotypic character matches perfectly with the absence of rmpA and magA genes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the presence of ste, stf, stc and sti major fimbrial operons of Salmonella enterica serotype Typhimurium in K. pneumoniae genome. The study identifies the discordance of virulome and virulence in Klebsiella spp. The complete genome analysis and phenotypic correlation identify uropathogenic K. pneumoniae kp3 as a carbapenem-resistant and virulent pathogen. The Pangenome of K. pneumoniae was open suggesting high genetic diversity. Diverse K serotypes were observed. Sequence typing reveals the prevalence of K. pneumoniae high-risk clones in UTI catheterised patients. The study also highlights the concordance of resistome and in vitro susceptibility tests. Importantly, the study identifies the necessity of virulome and phenotypic virulence markers for timely diagnosis and immediate treatment for the management of high-risk K. pneumoniae clones. Purpose: Surface electromyography (sEMG) is a non-invasive technique to characterize muscle electrical activity. The analysis of sEMG signals under muscle fatigue play a crucial part in the branch of neurorehabilitation, sports medicine, biomechanics, and monitoring neuromuscular pathologies. In this work, a method to transform sEMG signals to complex networks under muscle fatigue conditions using Markov transition field (MTF) is proposed. The importance of normalization to a constant Maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) is also considered. Methods: For this, dynamic signals are recorded using two different experimental protocols one under constant load and another referenced to 50% MVC from Biceps brachii of 50 and 45 healthy subjects respectively. MTF is generated and network graph is constructed from preprocesses signals. Features such as average self-transition probability, average clustering coefficient and modularity are extracted. Results: All the extracted features showed statistical significance for the recorded signals. It is found that during the transition from non-fatigue to fatigue, average clustering coefficient decreases while average self-transition probability and modularity increases. Conclusion: The results indicate higher degree of signal complexity during non-fatigue condition. Thus, the MTF approach may be used to indicate the complexity of sEMG signals. Although both datasets showed same trend in results, sEMG signals under 50% MVC exhibited higher separability for the features. The inter individual variations of the MTF features is found to be more for the signals recorded using constant load. Preterm birth (gestational age < 37 weeks) is a public health concern that causes fetal and maternal mortality and morbidity. When this condition is detected early, suitable treatment can be prescribed to delay labour. Uterine electromyography (uEMG) has gained a lot of attention for detecting preterm births in advance. However, analyzing uEMG is challenging due to the complexities associated with inter and intra-subject variations. This work aims to investigate the applicability of cyclostationary characteristics in uEMG signals for predicting premature delivery. The signals under term and preterm situations are considered from two online datasets. Preprocessing is carried out using a Butterworth bandpass filter, and spectral correlation density function is adapted using fast Fourier transform-based accumulation method (FAM) to compute the cyclostationary variations. The cyclic frequency spectral density (CFSD) and degree of cyclostationarity (DCS) are quantified to assess the existence of cyclostationarity. Features namely, maximum cyclic frequency, bandwidth, mean cyclic frequency (MNCF), and median cyclic frequency (MDCF) are extracted from the cyclostationary spectrum and analyzed statistically. uEMG signals exhibit cyclostationarity property, and these variations are found to distinguish preterm from term conditions. All the four extracted features are noted to decrease from term to preterm conditions. The results indicate that the cyclostationary nature of the signals can provide better characterization of uterine muscle contractions and could be helpful in detecting preterm birth. Mood disorders are an enigmatic class of debilitating illnesses that affect millions of individuals worldwide. While chronic stress clearly increases incidence levels of mood disorders, including major depressive disorder (MDD), stress-mediated disruptions in brain function that precipitate these illnesses remain largely elusive. Serotonin-associated antidepressants (ADs) remain the first line of therapy for many with depressive symptoms, yet low remission rates and delays between treatment and symptomatic alleviation have prompted skepticism regarding direct roles for serotonin in the precipitation and treatment of affective disorders. Our group recently demonstrated that serotonin epigenetically modifies histone proteins (H3K4me3Q5ser) to regulate transcriptional permissiveness in brain. However, this non-canonical phenomenon has not yet been explored following stress and/or AD exposures. Here, we employed a combination of genome-wide and biochemical analyses in dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) of male and female mice exposed to chronic social defeat stress, as well as in DRN of human MDD patients, to examine the impact of stress exposures/MDD diagnosis on H3K4me3Q5ser dynamics, as well as associations between the mark and depression-related gene expression. We additionally assessed stress-induced/MDD-associated regulation of H3K4me3Q5ser following AD exposures, and employed viral-mediated gene therapy in mice to reduce H3K4me3Q5ser levels in DRN and examine its impact on stress-associated gene expression and behavior. We found that H3K4me3Q5ser plays important roles in stress-mediated transcriptional plasticity. Chronically stressed mice displayed dysregulated H3K4me3Q5ser dynamics in DRN, with both AD- and viral-mediated disruption of these dynamics proving sufficient to attenuate stress-mediated gene expression and behavior. Corresponding patterns of H3K4me3Q5ser regulation were observed in MDD subjects on vs. off ADs at their time of death. These findings thus establish a neurotransmission-independent role for serotonin in stress-/AD-associated transcriptional and behavioral plasticity, observations of which may be of clinical relevance to human MDD and its treatment. Wireless charging of Electric Vehicles (EVs) has been extensively researched in the realm of electric cars, offering a convenient method. Nonetheless, there has been a scarcity of experiments conducted on low-power electric vehicles. To establish a wireless power transfer system for an electric vehicle, optimal power and transmission efficiency necessitate arranging the coils coaxially. In wireless charging systems, coils often experience angular and lateral misalignments. In this paper, a new alignment strategy is introduced to tackle the misalignment problem between the transmitter and receiver coils in the wireless charging of Electric Vehicles (EVs). The study involves the design and analysis of a coil, considering factors such as mutual inductance and efficiency. Wireless coils with angular misalignment are modelled in Ansys Maxwell simulation software. The proposed practical EV system aims to align the coils using angular motion, effectively reducing misalignment during the parking of two-wheelers. This is achieved by tilting the transmitter coil in the desired direction. Furthermore, micro sensing coils are employed to identify misalignment and facilitate automatic alignment. Additionally, adopting a power control technique becomes essential to achieve both constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) modes during battery charging. Integrating CC and CV modes is crucial for efficiently charging lithium-ion batteries, ensuring prolonged lifespan and optimal capacity utilization. The developed system can improve the efficiency of the wireless charging system to 90.3% with a 24 V, 16 Ah Lithium Ion Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery at a 160 mm distance between the coils. Background: An increasing incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is being reported in developing countries, including India. Most Indian studies on CRC are retrospective and single-centered. The present study is an attempt to understand the current clinical profile and stage of newly diagnosed CRCs across multiple centers in Tamil Nadu, India. Methods: A multi-centric observational survey was conducted between September 1, 2021, and August 31, 2022, under the aegis of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology - Tamil Nadu chapter. Patients 18 years of age and older with a recent diagnosis of CRC fulfilling the inclusion criteria were prospectively recruited at the participating centers. Their demographic, clinical, biochemical, endoscopic, histopathologic, radiologic and risk factor details were systematically collected and analyzed. Results: Across 23 centers in Tamil Nadu, 1208 patients were recruited. The male:female ratio was 1.49:1, while mean (SD) age was 57.7 (13.5) years. A majority (81.9%) were Tamils and 78.5% belonged to lower socioeconomic classes. The predominant symptoms were hematochezia (30.2%) and a change in bowel habits (27.5%). The most common locations were the rectum (34.3%) and rectosigmoid (15.1%). Synchronous CRCs were seen in 3.3% and synchronous colorectal polyps in 12.8%. Predisposing factors for CRC were seen in 2%. A past history of any cancer among CRC patients was obtained in 3.1% and a family history of any cancer was found in 7.6%. Patients who were either overweight or obese constituted 46.4% of the study population. At presentation, the predominant stages were stage III (44.7%) and stage IV (20.8%). Conclusions: A majority of patients with newly diagnosed CRC in Tamil Nadu belonged to the lower socioeconomic classes. About 60% had CRCs located within the reach of the flexible sigmoidoscope. The present work analyzes the interaction of oblique waves by a porous flexible breakwater in the presence of a step-type bottom. The physical models for both scattering and trapping cases are considered and developed within the framework of small amplitude water-wave theory. Darcy's law is used to model the wave interaction with the porous medium. It is assumed that the varying bottom extends over a finite interval, connected by a finite length of uniform bottom near an impermeable wall, and a semi-infinite length of bottom in the open water region. The boundary value problem is solved using the eigenfunction expansion method in the uniform bottom regions, while a modified mild-slope equation (MMSE) is used for the region with the varying bottom. Additionally, a mass-conserving jump condition is employed to handle the solution at slope discontinuities in the bottom. A system of equations is derived by matching the solutions at interfaces. The reflection coefficient and force on the breakwater and impermeable wall are plotted and analyzed for various parameters, such as the length of the varying bottom, depth ratio, angle of incidence, and flexural rigidity. It is observed that moderate values of flexural rigidity and depth ratio significantly contribute to an optimum reflection coefficient and reduce the wave force on the wall and breakwater. In this paper, we investigate the role of four-wave mixing effect on the structure of nondegenerate vector solitons and their collision dynamics. For this purpose, we consider the generalized coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (GCNLS) system which describes the evolution and nonlinear interaction of the two optical modes. The fundamental as well as higher-order nondegenerate vector soliton solutions are derived through the Hirota bilinear method and their forms are rewritten in a compact way using Gram determinants. Very interestingly, we find that the presence of four-wave mixing effect induces a breathing vector soliton state in both the optical modes. Such breather formation is not possible in the fundamental vector bright solitons of the Manakov system. Then, for both strong and weak four-wave mixing effects, we show that the nondegenerate solitons in the GCNLS system undergo, in general, novel shape changing collisions, in addition to shape preserving collision under suitable choice of wave numbers. Further, we analyze the degenerate soliton collision induced novel shape changing property of nondegenerate vector soliton by deriving the partially nondegenerate two-soliton solution. For completeness, the various collision scenarios related to the pure degenerate bright solitons are indicated. Introduction: Metal reaction and pseudotumor formation are very rare complications following ceramic on polyethylene total hip replacement. Pseudotumors have been described in the case of metal on polyethylene as well as in metal on ceramic interfaces. We report the largest pseudotumor formation to be observed after a thorough literature review following ceramic on polyethylene total hip replacement in a case of ankylosing spondylitis and chronic kidney disease. Case report: The patient had reported 7 years following the index surgery with an uncemented total hip arthroplasty and presented with osteolytic changes of the right proximal femur and later was lost to follow-up due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The patient returned again 2 years later presenting with the pseudotumor. Owing to the presence of extensive osteolysis with gross necrotic muscle mass around the proximal one-third of femur and since bone stock was available, reconstruction of the hip joint was not considered and hence a right side hind-quarter amputation was performed. Conclusion: This immune reaction was possibly exacerbated due to the underlying ankylosing spondylitis and chronic kidney disease requires more stringent follow up protocols and early intervention. It is, thereby, necessary to evaluate patients with serial radiography following total hip replacement, especially those with conditions which could accelerate the immune responses to the metal. This research focuses on synthesizing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanocomposite film adopted with 3–9 wt% of nano-sized (50 nm) titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles through a sol–gel (spin coating) route. Feature of TiO2 nanoparticles on microstructural behaviour is evaluated via scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction, and its optical properties like absorption & transmittance, optical band gap, and optical conductivity are studied. Including 9 wt% TiO2 in PVA film shows increased absorption peaks of 220–440 nm, and the transmittance range decreased by 16% compared to pure PVA. Stress is an adaptive response to the stressors that adversely affects physiological and psychological health. Stress elicits HPA axis activation, resulting in cortisol release, ultimately contributing to oxidative, inflammatory, physiological and mental stress. Nutritional supplementations with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and stress-relieving properties are among widely preferred complementary approaches for the stress management. However, there is limited research on the potential combined impact of vitamins, minerals and natural ingredients on stress. In the present study, we have investigated the effect of a multi-nutrient botanical formulation, Nutrilite® Daily Plus, on clinical stress parameters. The stress-modulatory effects were quantified at population level using a customized sub-clinical inflammation mathematical model. The model suggested that combined intervention of botanical and micronutrients lead to significant decline in physical stress (75% decline), mental stress (70% decline), oxidative stress (55% decline) and inflammatory stress (75% decline) as evident from reduction in key stress parameters such as ROS, TNF-α, blood pressure, cortisol levels and PSS scores at both individual and population levels. Further, at the population level, the intervention relieved stress in 85% of individuals who moved towards a healthy state. Disruption from the COVID-19 pandemic has caused major upheavals for manufacturing, and has severe implications for production networks, and the demand and supply chains underpinning manufacturing operations. This paper is the first of its kind to pull together research on both—the pandemic-related challenges and the management interventions in a manufacturing context. This systematic literature review reveals the frailty of supply chains and production networks in withstanding the pressures of lockdowns and other safety protocols, including product and workforce shortages. These, altogether, have led to closed facilities, reduced capacities, increased costs, and severe economic uncertainty for manufacturing businesses. In managing these challenges and stabilising their operations, manufacturers are urgently intervening by—investing in digital technologies, undertaking resource redistribution and repurposing, regionalizing and localizing, servitizing, and targeting policies that can help them survive in this altered economy. Composites have gained acceptance in an extensive range of applications owing to their unique characteristics. But, machining of these materials is often challenging due to improved bonding between matrix and fibre when fillers are added. Since the machinability is an important aspect for any material for its successful utilization, it is essential to analyse the effect of secondary phase on machinability. However, investigations on the effect of fillers on machinability of polymer composites are minimal. In this research, hybrid fillers, namely boron nitride (BN) and montmorillonite (MMT) nanoclay, were added to epoxy/glass fibre composite through compression moulding, in which quantity of MMT is fixed and BN is varied from 2 to 6 wt%. Abrasive water jet machining (AWJM) is a leading method for machining polymer composites in which transverse speed, stand-off distance, pump pressure and filler percentage are key factors and are considered as input variables. To assess the machinability, material removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (Ra) and kerf taper (Kt) are chosen as response variables. Experimental planning is done through Taguchi method, and Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC)-weighted Complex Proportional Assessment (COPRAS) technique is utilized for optimization. The results revealed that addition of BN reduces the MRR while it improves the surface finish and reduces the Kt. Transverse speed has the most influence over all the considered output responses, stand-off distance and water pressure mainly affect the MRR and Ra while filler addition mainly affects the Kt. The hybrid CRITIC-COPRAS approach–recommended optimal control factors resulted in 16.20 mm3/min MRR with 0.29° Kt and 3.86 µm Ra. There are few population-based studies of sufficient size and follow-up duration to have reliably assessed perinatal outcomes for pregnant women hospitalised with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The United Kingdom Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS) covers all 194 consultant-led UK maternity units and included all pregnant women admitted to hospital with an ongoing SARS-CoV-2 infection. Here we show that in this large national cohort comprising two years' active surveillance over four SARS-CoV-2 variant periods and with near complete follow-up of pregnancy outcomes for 16,627 included women, severe perinatal outcomes were more common in women with moderate to severe COVID-19, during the delta dominant period and among unvaccinated women. We provide strong evidence to recommend continuous surveillance of pregnancy outcomes in future pandemics and to continue to recommend SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in pregnancy to protect both mothers and babies. The impacts of maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection on newborns are not well understood. Denoising electrocardiogram (ECG) signals is a challenge because of the unavoidable artifacts. In this paper, an adaptive and effective signed error normalized least mean square algorithm (SE-NLMS) is proposed to improve denoising and reduce the mean square error (MSE). The performance of the SE-NLMS algorithm with unfolding technique (SE-UNLMS) has been compared with that of the normalized least mean square algorithm with unfolding structure (UNLMS) as well as the least mean square algorithm with unfolding structure (ULMS). SE-NLMS has the advantage of NLMS, namely an adaptive convergence rate and reduced computational complexity. We have implemented all three algorithms, namely LMS, NLMS and SE-NLMS, using an unfolding architecture that offers minimum delay and is suitable for real-time applications. Performance metrics such as an MSE of 0.0062 and a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement of about 10.2% are achieved through the proposed method of SE-UNLMS compared to other denoising methods. Additionally, exploration has been carried out for the application of denoised ECG signals under various arrhythmia conditions. The time-domain features were extracted from various denoised ECG signals and classified with support vector machines (SVM) to yield a good classification accuracy of 96.5%. The SE-UNLMS denoising method is demonstrated to be a valuable implementation for the detection and diagnosis of arrhythmias in real-world medical situations via this classification process. For real-time validation, the proposed method SE-UNLMS was implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) using Spartan 6 VPTB-20. The D allele has been identified as being linked to cardiovascular disease since the discovery of an insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism in the ACE gene, this polymorphism has been found to have significant associations with a variety of cardiovascular risk factors. Recent findings indicate a rising prevalence of metabolic disorders among rural populations in developing nations. Research on health matters has been predominantly focused on urban populations, with relatively less attention given to their rural counterparts Hence, the present study attempts to estimate the prevalence of ACE gene I/D polymorphism and explore its association with various cardiovascular risk factors among Rural Yadav population from India. In the present study, 207 (Male 47, Female 160) members of the Yadav community participated in the cross-sectional study. All the socio-demographic factors, somatometric (anthropometric) variables, and the intravenous blood was collected and Physiological (blood pressure), and biochemical (fasting glucose and lipid profile) parameters were measured as recommended by the American Heart Association, allele-specific PCR of the ACE gene I/D polymorphism was carried out, the PCR products were genotyped on 2% agarose gel Electrophoresis and ACE gene polymorphism was analysed for its association with various cardiovascular risk factors. Among the analysed individuals, 34 (16.4%) were found to have the II genotype, 58 (28.0%) had the ID genotype, and 115 (55.6%) had the DD genotype. The allele frequency of the I allele was found to be 0.31, and the frequency of the D allele was 0.69. The frequency of the DD genotype was found to be significantly higher among individuals with high TC, high TG, and low non-HDL levels (p value < 0.05). When considered collectively, the findings of this study are consistent with the hypothesis that the DD genotype of ACE polymorphism represents a correlation with cardiovascular disease risk factors in this population. The main purpose of this paper is to develop some methods to investigate the Schwarz type lemmas of holomorphic mappings and pluriharmonic mappings in Banach spaces. Initially, we extend the classical Schwarz lemmas of holomorphic mappings to Banach spaces, and then we apply these extensions to establish a sharp Bloch type theorem for pluriharmonic mappings on homogeneous unit balls of ℂn and to obtain some sharp boundary Schwarz type lemmas for holomorphic mappings in Banach spaces. Furthermore, we improve and generalize the classical Schwarz lemmas of planar harmonic mappings into the sharp forms of Banach spaces, and present some applications to sharp boundary Schwarz type lemmas for pluriharmonic mappings in Banach spaces. Additionally, using a relatively simple method of proof, we prove some sharp Schwarz–Pick type estimates of pluriharmonic mappings in JB*-triples, and the obtained results provide the improvements and generalizations of the corresponding results in [9]. Homeodomains (HDs) are the second largest class of DNA binding domains (DBDs) among eukaryotic sequence-specific transcription factors (TFs) and are the TF structural class with the largest number of disease-associated mutations in the Human Gene Mutation Database (HGMD). Despite numerous structural studies and large-scale analyses of HD DNA binding specificity, HD-DNA recognition is still not fully understood. Here, we analyze 92 human HD mutants, including disease-associated variants and variants of uncertain significance (VUS), for their effects on DNA binding activity. Many of the variants alter DNA binding affinity and/or specificity. Detailed biochemical analysis and structural modeling identifies 14 previously unknown specificity-determining positions, 5 of which do not contact DNA. The same missense substitution at analogous positions within different HDs often exhibits different effects on DNA binding activity. Variant effect prediction tools perform moderately well in distinguishing variants with altered DNA binding affinity, but poorly in identifying those with altered binding specificity. Our results highlight the need for biochemical assays of TF coding variants and prioritize dozens of variants for further investigations into their pathogenicity and the development of clinical diagnostics and precision therapies.Analysis of 92 human homeodomain mutants, including disease-associated variants and variants of uncertain significance, reveals variants with altered DNA binding affinity and/or specificity and specificity-determining positions. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary malignant cancer of the central nervous system. Insufficient oxygenation (hypoxia) has been linked to GBM invasion and aggression, leading to poor patient outcomes. Hypoxia induces gene expression for cellular adaptations. However, GBM is characterized by high intertumoral (molecular subtypes) and intratumoral heterogeneity (cell states), and it is not well understood to what extent hypoxia triggers patient-specific gene responses and cellular diversity in GBM. Here, we surveyed eight patient-derived GBM stem cell lines for invasion phenotypes in 3D culture, which identified two GBM lines showing increased invasiveness in response to hypoxia. RNA-seq analysis of the two patient GBM lines revealed a set of shared hypoxia response genes concerning glucose metabolism, angiogenesis, and autophagy, but also a large set of patient-specific hypoxia-induced genes featuring cell migration and anti-inflammation, highlighting intertumoral diversity of hypoxia responses in GBM. We further applied the Shared GBM Hypoxia gene signature to single cell RNA-seq datasets of glioma patients, which showed that hypoxic cells displayed a shift towards mesenchymal-like (MES) and astrocyte-like (AC) states. Interestingly, in response to hypoxia, tumor cells in IDH-mutant gliomas displayed a strong shift to the AC state, whereas tumor cells in IDH-wildtype gliomas mainly shifted to the MES state. This distinct hypoxia response of IDH-mutant gliomas may contribute to its more favorable prognosis. An autonomous chaotic snap system with only one equilibrium point is proposed and analyzed in this paper. Periodic oscillations, self-excited chaotic attractors, hidden chaotic attractors and coexistence of a stable equilibrium point with a hidden chaotic attractor are found during the numerical simulations of the autonomous snap system with hidden and self-excited attractors. The Hopf bifurcation and its first Lyapunov coefficient are derived. The autonomous snap system with hidden and self-excited attractors is implemented in OrCAD-PSpice software to confirm the numerical simulations results. Finally, the chaotic behavior found in autonomous snap system with hidden and self-excited attractors is used as a pseudorandom number sequence (PRNS) in the design of an image encryption and decryption algorithm based on substitution-box (S-box) generation. The proposed image encryption and decryption algorithm provides outstanding results such as a high sensitivity to any bit change, a very large key space of 2600, S-box time generation of 0.0009 s and the number of pixels change rate (NPCR) and unified average changing intensity (UACI) give a minimum value of 99.64%and 33.58%, respectively just to name a few. Southeast Asian countries have experienced a significant level of economic growth over the years but have not managed to safeguard their environmental attributes in tandem. The shadow economy is seen as one of the main factors which can significantly affect environmental quality. However, bringing the shadow economy in the picture, the institutional quality plays a critical role on environmental pollution. This study explores the effects of the shadow economy and institutions on environmental pollution in ASEAN-9 countries by applying the second-generation panel techniques using annual data. The second-generation panel unit root tests show the unique order of integration in series. The long-run cointegrating association exists among variables using Pedroni, Kao, and Westerlund panel cointegration tests. Moreover, the long-run elasticity is estimated using the ARDL approach and confirms an N-shaped EKC hypothesis in ASEAN-9 countries. Our empirical results also reveal that financial development and energy consumption significantly and positively effect environmental pollution. However, institution quality has an insignificant impact and the shadow economy significantly lessen environmental pollution. Finally, the causal interaction pathways are identified by using the D-H panel causality test. In addition, a unidirectional causality has been found from financial development to ecological footprint, shadow economy, and economic growth. Furthermore, institutional quality causes an ecological footprint. Consequently, robust regulating policies should be implemented to reduce the size of the informal economy to prevent environmental degradation. Resection and whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) are standard treatments for brain metastases (BM) but are associated with cognitive side effects. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) uses a targeted approach with less side effects than WBRT. SRS requires precise identification and delineation of BM. While artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms have been developed for this, their clinical adoption is limited due to poor model performance in the clinical setting. The limitations of algorithms are often due to the quality of datasets used for training the AI network. The purpose of this study was to create a large, heterogenous, annotated BM dataset for training and validation of AI models. We present a BM dataset of 200 patients with pretreatment T1, T1 post-contrast, T2, and FLAIR MR images. The dataset includes contrast-enhancing and necrotic 3D segmentations on T1 post-contrast and peritumoral edema 3D segmentations on FLAIR. Our dataset contains 975 contrast-enhancing lesions, many of which are sub centimeter, along with clinical and imaging information. Psychosocial stress has profound effects on the body, including the immune system and the brain1,2. Although a large number of pre-clinical and clinical studies have linked peripheral immune system alterations to stress-related disorders such as major depressive disorder (MDD)3, the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. Here we show that expression of a circulating myeloid cell-specific proteinase, matrix metalloproteinase 8 (MMP8), is increased in the serum of humans with MDD as well as in stress-susceptible mice following chronic social defeat stress (CSDS). In mice, we show that this increase leads to alterations in extracellular space and neurophysiological changes in the nucleus accumbens (NAc), as well as altered social behaviour. Using a combination of mass cytometry and single-cell RNA sequencing, we performed high-dimensional phenotyping of immune cells in circulation and in the brain and demonstrate that peripheral monocytes are strongly affected by stress. In stress-susceptible mice, both circulating monocytes and monocytes that traffic to the brain showed increased Mmp8 expression following chronic social defeat stress. We further demonstrate that circulating MMP8 directly infiltrates the NAc parenchyma and controls the ultrastructure of the extracellular space. Depleting MMP8 prevented stress-induced social avoidance behaviour and alterations in NAc neurophysiology and extracellular space. Collectively, these data establish a mechanism by which peripheral immune factors can affect central nervous system function and behaviour in the context of stress. Targeting specific peripheral immune cell-derived matrix metalloproteinases could constitute novel therapeutic targets for stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders. The identification of diseases in plants contributes an important role in captivating disease control methods for the improvement of quality and quantity of crop yield. Mango trees are affected by different diseases and the identification of diseases is a tedious task till now when those diseases are manually detected. This paper proposes the novel hybrid Coyote Grey Wolf optimization (CO-GWO) algorithm for the classification of mango leaves as normal or diseased. The classification process is done through the extraction of significant features from the segmented image. The Neural network (NN) classifier performs the classification task, with the weights being adjusted using the proposed algorithm that acts a major role in the enhancement of the classification accuracy. The effectiveness of the proposed model is evaluated concerning the evaluation metrics, namely accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 measure, and is attained to be 96.7111%, 97.5712%, 97.1504%, and 96.4792%, respectively. Natural bioactive peptides exhibit various chemical and structural properties to enhance the immune response against multiple inflammatory and autoimmune related disorders. The immunomodulatory function and bioactivity of seed peptides show the capability for the development of biotherapeutics that could prevent autoimmune diseases. The aim of current study is to determine the immunomodulatory function of bioactive peptides derived from the seed of plum (Prunus domestica L.) by applying various immunoinformatic approaches. A thorough analysis of forty-one peptides was performed including drug likeliness, pharmacokinetic, and bioactivity profiling studies. Further, molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of screened peptides were carried out with the two interleukin targets (IL-17A and IL-23) of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). After the systematic screening, four peptides, namely HLLP, LPLL, LPAGV, and NLPL, were found as potential inhibitors against SLE. Additionally, site-directed mutagenesis analysis was conducted to explore the role of essential amino acid residues in the binding pattern/energy change. Computational alanine screening analysis found that CYS123, CYS121 of IL-17A and ASP270, and SER249 of IL-23 as hot spot residues that could play an important role in the inhibition property of screened peptides. Background: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is a prevalent and crucial RNA methylation modification that plays a significant role in various biological and pathological processes. The dysregulation of m6A has been linked to the initiation, progression, and metastasis of several cancer types, including colon cancer. The transcriptome of colon cancer indeed provides insight into dysregulated coding and non-coding RNAs, but it does not reveal the mechanisms, such as m6A modifications, that determine post-transcriptional and pre-translational regulations. This study using MeRIP sequencing aims to explain the distribution of m6A modification across altered gene expression and its association with colon cancer. Methods and results: The levels of m6A in different colon cancer cell lines were quantified and correlated with the expression of m6A modifiers such as writers, readers, and erasers. Our results showed that global m6A levels in colon cancer were associated with METTL14, YTHDF2, and YTHDC1. We performed Epi-transcriptome profiling of m6A in colon cancer cell lines using Methylated RNA Immunoprecipitation (MeRIP) sequencing. The differential methylation analysis revealed 7312 m6A regions among the colon cancer cell lines. Our findings indicated that the m6A RNA methylation modifications were mainly distributed in the last exonic and 3′ untranslated regions. We also discovered that non-coding RNAs such as miRNA, lncRNA, and circRNA carry m6A marks. Gene set enrichment and motif analysis suggested a strong association of m6A with post-transcriptional events, particularly splicing control. Overall, our study sheds light on the potential role of m6A in colon cancer and highlights the importance of further investigation in this area. Conclusion: This study reports m6A enrichment in the last exonic regions and 3′ UTRs of mRNA transcripts in colon cancer. METTL14, YTHDF2, and YTHDC1 were the most significant modifiers in colon cancer cells. The functions of m6A-modified genes were found to be RNA methylation and RNA capping. The large use of renewable sources and plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) would play a critical part in achieving a low-carbon energy source and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which are the primary cause of global warming. On the other hand, predicting the instability and intermittent nature of wind and solar power output poses significant challenges. To reduce the unpredictable and random nature of renewable microgrids (MGs) and additional unreliable energy sources, a battery energy storage system (BESS) is connected to an MG system. The uncoordinated charging of PEVs offers further hurdles to the unit commitment (UC) required in contemporary MG management. The UC problem is an exceptionally difficult optimization problem due to the mixed-integer structure, large scale, and nonlinearity. It is further complicated by the multiple uncertainties associated with renewable sources, PEV charging and discharging, and electricity market pricing, in addition to the BESS degradation factor. Therefore, in this study, a new variant of mixed-integer particle swarm optimizer is introduced as a reliable optimization framework to handle the UC problem. This study considers six various case studies of UC problems, including uncertainties and battery degradation to validate the reliability and robustness of the proposed algorithm. Out of which, two case studies defined as a multiobjective problem, and it has been transformed into a single-objective model using different weight factors. The simulation findings demonstrate that the proposed approach and improved methodology for the UC problem are effective than its peers. Despite growing concern about microplastic contamination in terrestrial ecosystems, there have been few researches on the possible consequences of various microplastics on terrestrial plants. In this study, the toxicity of Polyethylene microplastics (PE-MPs) with different concentrations (0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00%) to tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) were studied. Results showed a concentration-dependent negative impacts on the physiological, biochemical, growth, yield attributes and fruit quality of tomatoes. Amongst various concentrations, the maximum effect was observed with 0.75 and 1.00% PE-MPs and among the various growth stages studied (vegetative, flowering, fruiting and harvest), the highest impact was observed during the fruiting stage. Besides exhibiting a deleterious effect on physiological traits, it was also confirmed that PE-MPs could exert oxidative stress in plants thereby delaying the days to first flowering. Moreover, exposure to PE-MPs at 1.00% recorded the maximum reduction in the number of flowers per cluster (17.67%), number of flower clusters per plant (18.27%), number of fruits per cluster (32.76%), number of fruits per plant (56.33%) and single fruit weight (47.57%). Furthermore, 1.00% PE-MPs exposure was also observed to significantly reduce the fruit quality like titrable acidity, ascorbic acid and lycopene content by 22.32, 21.09 and 23.96% respectively. Additionally, the application of 1.00% PE –MPs decreased the soil bulk density, available phosphorus and potassium; whereas, the EC, organic carbon, microbial biomass carbon (8%), NO3–N (22%), NH4–N (23%) significantly increased. Moreover, the presence of PE-MPs in soil also had a significant influence on the soil enzyme activities. Metagenomic analysis (16 s) reveals that control had higher diversity, richness and evenness, compared to rhizosphere soil with 1.00% PE-MPs. These results can provide a theoretical basis and data support for further investigation on the toxicity of microplastics to tomatoes, and contribute to understanding the type specificity of microplastics’ toxic effects on plants.Highlights: Polyethylene microplastic exposure reduced the physiological traits in tomato. Vascular rings may cause respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms due to compression of the trachea and/or esophagus. Advances in imaging have enabled early detection in asymptomatic patients posing new management dilemmas. Surgery is expected to relieve symptoms, although this has not been well studied. We sought to evaluate the presence and pattern of symptoms associated with vascular rings before surgical intervention and to detail symptom resolution after surgery. A 10-year retrospective review of patients diagnosed with an isolated vascular ring was performed between January 2010 and December 2019. 100 patients were identified; 35 double aortic arch (DAA) and 65 right aortic arch and left ligamentum arteriosum (RALL). 73 patients were symptomatic on presentation; 47 had respiratory, 5 had gastrointestinal, and 21 had both types of symptoms. Surgical repair was performed in 75 patients; 74 were symptomatic. Respiratory symptoms were more likely in patients with preoperative tracheal narrowing (p < 0.001). Moderate-severe respiratory symptoms led to surgery in RALL patients (OR 10.6, p = 0.0001). DAA patients were more likely to undergo surgery (p < 0.001) irrespective of symptom severity. At a median post-surgical follow-up of 4 months, there was a significant reduction in symptom burden (p < 0.001), except for asthma symptoms (p = 0.131). Symptom resolution was not dependent on the vascular ring anatomy (p = 0.331) or the age at operation (p = 0.158). Vascular rings are typically accompanied by respiratory symptoms and less commonly GI symptoms, both of which resolve in most patients after surgery. Background: The gut microbiome of honey bees significantly influences vital traits and metabolic processes, including digestion, detoxification, nutrient provision, development, and immunity. However, there is a limited information is available on the gut bacterial diversity of western honey bee populations in India. This study addresses the critical knowledge gap and outcome of which would benefit the beekeepers in India. Methods and results: This study investigates the gut bacterial diversity in forager and hive bees of Indian Apis mellifera, employing both culture-based and culture-independent methods. In the culturable study, a distinct difference in gut bacterial alpha and beta diversity between forager and hive bees emerges. Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria dominate, with hive bees exhibiting a Firmicutes-rich gut (65%), while foragers showcase a higher proportion of Proteobacteria (37%). Lactobacillus in the hive bee foregut aligns with the findings by other researchers. Bacterial amplicon sequencing analysisreveals a more intricate bacterial composition with 18 identified phyla, expanding our understanding compared to culturable methods. Hive bees exhibit higher community richness and diversity, likely due to diverse diets and increased social interactions. The core microbiota includes Snodgrassella alvi, Gilliamella apicola, and Bombilactobacillus mellis and Lactobacillus helsingborgensis, crucial for digestion, metabolism, and pathogen resistance. The study emphasises bacteria's role in pollen and nectar digestion, with specific groups like Lactobacillus and Bifidobobacterium spp. associated with carbohydrate metabolism and polysaccharide breakdown. These microbes aid in starch and sucrose digestion, releasing beneficial short-chain fatty acids. Conclusion: This research highlights the intricate relationship between honey bees and their gut microbiota, showcasing how the diverse and complex microbiome helps bees overcome dietary challenges and enhances overall host health.
