Abstract

This research focuses on synthesizing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanocomposite film adopted with 3–9 wt% of nano-sized (50 nm) titanium dioxide (TiO<subscript>2</subscript>) particles through a sol–gel (spin coating) route. Feature of TiO<subscript>2</subscript> nanoparticles on microstructural behaviour is evaluated via scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction, and its optical properties like absorption & transmittance, optical band gap, and optical conductivity are studied. Including 9 wt% TiO<subscript>2</subscript> in PVA film shows increased absorption peaks of 220–440 nm, and the transmittance range decreased by 16% compared to pure PVA. In addition, the optical energy band gap decreased from 3.7 to 2.6 eV, and its optical conductivity progressively increased from 0.1 to 1.3 × 10<superscript>12</superscript>. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
