Context: With the union of machine learning (ML) and quantum chemistry, amid the debate between machine-learned functionals and human-designed functionals in density functional theory (DFT), this paper aims to demonstrate the generation of potential energy surfaces using computations with machine-learned density functional approximation (ML-DFA). A recent research trend is the application of ML in quantum sciences in the design of density functionals such as DeepMind's Deep Learning model (DeepMind21, DM21). Though science reported the state-of-the-art performance of DM21, the opportunity to utilize DeepMind's pretrained DM21 neural networks in computations in quantum chemistry has not yet been tapped. So far in the literature, the Deep Learning density functionals (DM21) have not been applied to generate potential energy surfaces. While the superior accuracy of DM21 has been reported, there is still a scarcity of publications that apply DM21 in calculations in the field. In this context, for the first time in literature, neural density functionals inferring 2D potential energy surfaces (ML-DFA-PES) based on machine-learned DFA-based computational method is contributed in this paper. This paper reports the ML-DFA-generated PES for C4H8, H2O, H2, and H2+ by employing a pretrained DM21m TensorFlow model with cc-pVDZ basis set. In addition, we also analyze the long-range behavior of DM21 based PES to investigate the ability to describe a system at long ranges. Furthermore, we compare PES diagrams from DM21 with popular DFT functionals (b3lyp/ PW6B95) and CCSD(T). Methods: In this method, 2D potential energy surfaces are obtained using a method that relies upon the neural network's ability to accurately learn the mapping between 3D electron density and exchange–correlation potential. By inserting Deep Learning inference in DFT with a pretrained neural network, self-consistent field (SCF) energy at different geometries along the coordinates of interest is computed, and then, potential energy surfaces are plotted. In this method, first, the electron density is computed mathematically, and this computed 3D electron density is used as a ML feature vector to predict the exchange correlation potential as a ML inference computed by a forward pass of pre-trained DM21 TensorFlow computational graph, followed by the computation of self-consistent field energy at multiple geometries, and then, SCF energies at different bond lengths/angles are plotted as 2D PES. We implement this in a python source code using frameworks such as PySCF and DM21. This paper contributes this implementation in open source. The present work serves as a theoretical commentary over the Himalayan Re-gridded and Observational EXperiment (HiROX) and distributes the conceived framework grown under the two-phase experiment. HiROX is a scientific effort aimed at revising the existing precipitation knowledge over the Central Himalayas over the state of Uttarakhand, including the Upper Ganga Basin. The first phase of the study is experimenting with machine learning methods aimed at developing re-gridded precipitation datasets capable of incorporating selective precipitation features and distributing the developed machine learning framework to the research community. The model is designed for easy reproduction of re-gridded precipitation data and the ability to adapt to the available precipitation datasets subject to missing and/or modified inputs. The model is capable of ingesting gridded precipitation datasets at varying spatial resolutions, along with point data values, and can return gridded precipitation information at a spatial resolution of 5 × 5 km2. The second objective of the companion paper under HiROX is the realization of the features of the developed model and exercising it in the development of two high-resolution precipitation datasets at daily timesteps, namely HiROX-1 (~50 yrs) and HiROX-2 (~20 yrs). In this paper, a scalable end-to-end tree boosting system called XGBoost has been applied for predicting the magnitude of an earthquake from the early part of earthquake waveform data. This model uses the features extracted from the early P wave phase of the records as an input. The model's effectiveness has been verified by using data on earthquakes occurring in the Eurasian plate of Japan Islands from 1996 to 2021. Feature engineering has given 29 new features identified from the early P wave phase of the record, which show a high correlation with the magnitude of an earthquake. The comparison of predicted and actual magnitude shows that a trained XGboost model, which uses a single input record for magnitude prediction, gives an average prediction error of 0.004 ± 0.57 for earthquakes in the test dataset. In contrast, the average prediction error of –1.1 ± 0.80 and –0.65 ± 0.69 has been obtained for the magnitude estimated from conventional τc and Pd methods using the same test dataset. It is further seen that the average predicted magnitude of a single earthquake of magnitude 4.5 and 6.1 (MJMA) obtained by using multiple nearfield records using XGBoost model is 4.58 ± 0.33 and 6.32 ± 0.29, which is close to the actual magnitude of the earthquake. The results presented in this paper clearly show that the structured data can be effectively used by complex machine learning or deep learning models to predict earthquake magnitude from single or multiple records. In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the application of machine learning methods about predicting the incidence of dengue fever. However, the predictive factors and models employed in different studies vary greatly. Hence, we conducted a systematic review to summarize machine learning methods and predictors in previous studies. We searched PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases for articles published up to July 2023. The selected papers included not only the forecast of dengue incidence but also machine learning methods. A total of 23 papers were included in this study. Predictive factors included meteorological factors (22, 95.7%), historical dengue data (14, 60.9%), environmental factors (4, 17.4%), socioeconomic factors (4, 17.4%), vector surveillance data (2, 8.7%), and internet search data (3, 13.0%). Among meteorological factors, temperature (20, 87.0%), rainfall (20, 87.0%), and relative humidity (14, 60.9%) were the most commonly used. We found that Support Vector Machine (SVM) (6, 26.1%), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) (5, 21.7%), Random Forest (RF) (4, 17.4%), Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) (2, 8.7%), ensemble model (2, 8.7%), and other models (4, 17.4%) were identified as the best models based on evaluation metrics used in each article. These results indicate that meteorological factors are important predictors that cannot be ignored and SVM and LSTM algorithms are the most commonly used models in dengue fever prediction with good predictive performance. This review will contribute to the development of more robust early dengue warning systems and promote the application of machine learning methods in predicting climate-related infectious diseases. The paper examines whether the structure of the risk factor disclosure in an IPO prospectus helps explain the cross-section of first-day returns in a sample of Chinese initial public offerings. This paper analyzes the semantics and content of risk disclosure based on an unsupervised machine learning algorithm. From both long-term and short-term perspectives, this paper explores how the information effect and risk effect of risk disclosure play their respective roles. The results show that risk disclosure has a stronger risk effect at the semantic novelty level and a more substantial information effect at the risk content level. A novel aspect of the paper lies in the use of text analysis (semantic novelty and content richness) to characterize the structure of the risk factor disclosure. The study shows that initial IPO returns negatively correlate with semantic novelty and content richness. We show the interaction between risk effect and information effect on risk disclosure under the nature of the same stock plate. Objective: To systematically review radiomic feature reproducibility and model validation strategies in recent studies dealing with CT and MRI radiomics of bone and soft-tissue sarcomas, thus updating a previous version of this review which included studies published up to 2020. Methods: A literature search was conducted on EMBASE and PubMed databases for papers published between January 2021 and March 2023. Data regarding radiomic feature reproducibility and model validation strategies were extracted and analyzed. Results: Out of 201 identified papers, 55 were included. They dealt with radiomics of bone (n = 23) or soft-tissue (n = 32) tumors. Thirty-two (out of 54 employing manual or semiautomatic segmentation, 59%) studies included a feature reproducibility analysis. Reproducibility was assessed based on intra/interobserver segmentation variability in 30 (55%) and geometrical transformations of the region of interest in 2 (4%) studies. At least one machine learning validation technique was used for model development in 34 (62%) papers, and K-fold cross-validation was employed most frequently. A clinical validation of the model was reported in 38 (69%) papers. It was performed using a separate dataset from the primary institution (internal test) in 22 (40%), an independent dataset from another institution (external test) in 14 (25%) and both in 2 (4%) studies. Conclusions: Compared to papers published up to 2020, a clear improvement was noted with almost double publications reporting methodological aspects related to reproducibility and validation. Larger multicenter investigations including external clinical validation and the publication of databases in open-access repositories could further improve methodology and bring radiomics from a research area to the clinical stage. This paper presents an intelligent healthcare framework by incorporating modern computing technologies like machine learning and deep learning. The sole motivation of this paper is to predict diabetes status intelligently so that patients can be made aware of their diabetes status regularly. A novel ensemble machine learning-based diabetes prediction framework, namely "iDP", has been proposed in this paper. Six different machine learning approaches have been used for the iDP framework, namely random forest, decision tree, neural network, AdaBoost, support vector machine, and XGBoost. Training and testing of ensemble modeling have been performed based on these learning techniques. A comprehensive preliminary data analysis and screening of statistical analysis have been systematically demonstrated in this paper. The recursive feature elimination and fivefold cross-validation methods have been used to select the best model. All experiments have been performed using R-Studio 1.2.5 with the help of the Rattle library 5.4.0. The preliminary data analytic and Pearson correlation coefficient values have been computed to verify the linearity relationship among the data. Results have been reported in eight performance metrics, including accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, area under curve, area under convex hull, minimum error rate, minimum weighted loss, and precision. The proposed iDP framework improves the results on different aspects in order to compare them with individual learning approaches. Despite this, a comparative performance analysis of the iDP framework has also been performed with state-of-the-art prevailing models. Manual term extraction is similar to literal meaning: A translator browses text, classifies words, and prepares for translation. Terminology, as a centralized carrier of expertise, creation, popularization, and disappearance, dynamically reflects the development and evolution of an industry. The automatic extraction of terminology is a key technology for creating a professional terminology database, and it is also a key topic in the field of natural language processing. The purpose of this paper is to study how to analyse a term extraction algorithm based on machine learning and a comprehensive feature strategy. Focusing on the problems of poor generality and single statistical features of current term extraction algorithms, this paper proposes an improved domain ontology term extraction algorithm based on a comprehensive feature strategy. Moreover, automatic term extraction experiments based on a word-based maximum entropy model and a conditional random field model based on machine learning are conducted in this paper. Its word-based conditional random field model outperforms the maximum entropy model. The experimental results show that the algorithm based on the comprehensive feature strategy improves the accuracy by 8.6% compared with the TF-IDF algorithm and the C-value term extraction algorithm. The concept of magic is frequently used to discuss technology, a practice considered useful by some with others arguing that viewing technology as magic precludes a proper understanding of technology. The concept of magic is especially prominent in discussions of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Based on an anthropological perspective, this paper juxtaposes ML technology with magic, using descriptions drawn from a project on an ML-powered system for propulsion control of cargo ships. The paper concludes that prior scholarly work on technology has failed to both define magic adequately and use research into magic. Information and communication technology has evolved dramatically, and now the majority of people are using internet and sharing their opinion more openly, which has led to the creation, collection and circulation of hate speech over multiple platforms. The anonymity and movability given by these social media platforms allow people to hide themselves behind a screen and spread the hate effortlessly. Online hate speech (OHS) recognition can play a vital role in stopping such activities and can thus restore the position of public platforms as the open marketplace of ideas. To study hate speech detection in social media, we surveyed the related available datasets on the web-based platform. We further analyzed approximately 200 research papers indexed in the different journals from 2010 to 2022. The papers were divided into various sections and approaches used in OHS detection, i.e., feature selection, traditional machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL). Based on the selected 111 papers, we found that 44 articles used traditional ML and 35 used DL-based approaches. We concluded that most authors used SVM, Naive Bayes, Decision Tree in ML and CNN, LSTM in the DL approach. This paper proposes a wireless network-based machine intelligence model to enhance the predictive capability of green tourism satisfaction in regions with cultural differences. The model combines big data analysis techniques and machine learning algorithms to collect tourist data through intelligent machines and devices. Analyzing tourists' behavior and preferences establishes a reliable prediction model to effectively assess tourists' satisfaction with green tourism. Additionally, the paper constructs a distributed integration scheduling and feature mining model of green tourism satisfaction, which extracts relevant information features of big statistical data using an integration feature detection method. Furthermore, the paper establishes a fuzzy network structure model and designs the objective function of green tourism satisfaction prediction through decision scheduling and parameter optimization. The model's parameter-weighted learning enhances the optimization prediction ability of green tourism satisfaction under regional cultural differences. The paper also carries out green tourism satisfaction prediction and tourists' preference feature analysis using the fuzzy big data matching feature clustering method. The fuzzy network block fusion and clustering results also enable tourists' preference behavior feature analysis, further improving the predictive capability of green tourism satisfaction under regional cultural differences. Automated and accurate detection of power quality (PQ) events is important from the point of view of safety as well as maintaining the reliability of the power transmission and distribution network. However, detection of multiple PQ events in a noisy environment is challenging task. Another important issue is the choice of meaningful features that can directly influence the accuracy of PQ detection. Considering these two aforesaid facts, this paper presents a novel framework for automated classification of PQ signals in a noisy environment employing cross Stockwell Transform (XST). The XST proposed in this paper has better noise suppression capability compared to conventional Stockwell Transform. Here, XST was used to convert 1D PQ signals to 2D time–frequency (T–F) images. To improve the accuracy of PQ detection, an automated feature extraction method employing deep learning is implemented in this work. The noise free T–F images obtained using XST were fed as inputs to several pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for deep feature extraction. Transfer learning technique was implemented to reduce the computational cost. The extracted deep features were further undergone selection using one-way analysis of variance test followed by false discovery rate correction. The statistically significant deep features were subsequently fed to three benchmark machine learning classifiers for classification of PQ signals. In addition, tests were also carried out on real-life PQ signals to verify the practicability of the proposed framework. Investigations revealed that the proposed method returned mean accuracy of 99.72% and 96.45% for classification of simulated and real-life PQ signals, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Increasing the integration of distributed generation (DG) into distribution networks provides many technological benefits, including improving system security, performance, and reliability. The intermittent nature of renewable DGs poses certain difficulties for this integration. Moreover, the large integration of DGs will lead to islanding conditions in the power system. In the islanded operation, the microgrid keeps power injection into the network. The islanding event can occur intentionally or unintentionally; the former is controllable and required for maintaining the main utility, whereas the latter is uncontrollable, caused by regular faults. However, islanding detection is important for ensuring the system's reliability and operation. Hence, a comprehensive review is made in this paper to examine different methods for islanding detection in the power system. Unlike the previous review papers, the proposed review paper focused on different types of islanding detection methods, including active, reactive, hybrid active–passive methods, deep learning and machine learning techniques. All of these methods have their advantage and disadvantages. Moreover, the complexities in power systems increased with the increasing penetration of DGs. Thus, the rapid islanding detection technique is necessary for improving the system's performance. This review has provided some recent literature for signal processing, which includes the recent feature selection and advance finding for islanding occurrences. From the comparative analysis, it is found that the Non-detection zone (NDZ) is more in the passive method is higher than in the active and hybrid active–passive methods. At the same time, the remote islanding detection methods are NDZ free, but it has computational complexities when compared with existing methods. Moreover, the DL based methods have higher computational time due to large training and testing data. It is found that hybrid methods are more feasible for providing accurate results in islanding detection. Given the complexity and wide range of applications being developed for the Internet of Things (IoT) requiring an efficient mapping of application tasks in hardware resources, especially embedded systems, it is necessary to address the problem of resource optimization, taking into account constraints for energy consumption, latency, and bandwidth, among others. This paper proposes a population based multi-objective heuristic algorithm to solve the task mapping for an application into a hierarchical hardware architecture known as Wireless Network on Chip using a mathematical modeling, as well as Artificial Intelligence algorithms, that combine the strategies of neural networks and genetic algorithms. A Population Based Incremental Learning (PBIL) algorithm is used in this research to solve the task mapping problem oriented to IoT applications, allowing heterogeneous systems to be involved with different bandwidths, latencies and technologies. The optimization goals addressed in this paper are bandwidth, speedup, power consumption and communication cost. The PBIL algorithm was tested on synthetic applications with heavy workload, where performance is measured taking into account the combination of low power consumption and maximum speedup and bandwidth. Other tests carried out with the PBIL algorithm were aimed to reduce the cost of communication in task mapping for real applications such as Multi-Window Display (MWD) and MPEG4 decoder. The results obtained in both synthetic and real applications showed an improvement when Escort entropy was used compared to Renyi and Shannon. In the case of real applications, when using a 2D Mesh topology, an improvement of 15.25% for MWD and 40.32% for MPEG-4 was observed when compared to the ISFL algorithm. It is difficult to manage massive amounts of data in an overlying environment with a single server. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehend the security provisions for erratic data in a dynamic environment. The authors are concerned about the security risk of vulnerable data in a Mobile Edge based distributive environment. As a result, edge computing appears to be an excellent perspective in which training can be done in an Edge-based environment. The combination of Edge computing and consensus approach of Blockchain in conjunction with machine learning techniques can further improve data security, mitigate the possibility of exposed data, and it reduces the risk of a data breach. As a result, the concept of federated learning provides a path for training the shared data. A dataset was collected that contained several vulnerable, exposed, recovered, and secured data and data security was precepted under the surveillance of two-factor authentication. This paper discusses the evolution of data and security flaws and their corresponding solutions in smart edge computing devices. The proposed model incorporates data security using consensus approach of Blockchain and machine learning techniques that include several classifiers and optimization techniques. Further, the authors applied the proposed algorithms in an edge computing environment by distributing several batches of data to different clients. As a result, the client privacy was maintained by using Blockchain servers. Furthermore, the authors segregated the client data into batches that were trained using the federated learning technique. Super-computing or HPC clusters are built to provide services to execute computationally complex applications. Generally, these HPC applications involve large scale IO (input/output) processing over the networked parallel file system disks. They are commonly developed on top of the C/C++ based MPI standard library. The HPC clusters MPI–IO performance significantly depends on the particular parameter value configurations, not generally considered when writing the algorithms or programs. Therefore, this leads to poor IO and overall program performance degradation. The IO is mostly left to individual practitioners to be optimised at code level. This usually leads to unexpected consequences due to IO bandwidth degradation which becomes inevitable as the file data scales in size to petabytes. To overcome the poor IO performance, this research paper presents an approach for auto-tuning of the configuration parameters by forecasting the MPI–IO bandwidth via artificial neural networks (ANNs), a machine learning (ML) technique. These parameters are related to MPI–IO library and lustre (parallel) file system. In addition to this, we have identified a number of common configurations out of numerous possibilities, selected in the auto-tuning process of READ/WRITE operations. These configurations caused an overall READ bandwidth improvement of 65.7% with almost 83% test cases improved. The number of papers on machine learning and deep neural networks applied to intrusion detection systems (IDS) is ever-increasing. Differently from existing work on the topic, this paper explores the effect of training-time randomness of deep neural networks, which is overlooked by the related literature. Training-time randomness is regulated by the seed of the pseudorandom number generator, and affects the performance of IDS models. The seed selection is studied in conjunction with other critical learning parameters: to the best of our knowledge, there are no similar studies in IDS. The experiments are done with a recent and widely consolidated intrusion detection benchmark, which is used to train and test a neural network under different combinations of seeds and parameters both in supervised and semi-supervised learning modes. The results are inferred by a mixture of explorative analysis, design of experiments, and analysis of variance. According to the results, the choice of the seed yields either excellent or scarce detection metrics; more importantly, the seed selection might be as relevant as the other major learning parameters assessed. While MILP problems suffer from combinatorial complexity, Lagrangian Relaxation has been a beacon of hope to resolve the associated difficulties through decomposition. Due to the non-smooth nature of Lagrangian dual functions, the coordination aspect of the method has posed serious challenges. This paper presents a data processing pipeline designed to extract information from the hyperspectral signature of unknown space objects. The methodology proposed in this paper determines the material composition of space objects from single pixel images. Two techniques are used for material identification and classification: one based on machine learning and the other based on a least square match with a library of known spectra. From this information, a supervised machine learning algorithm is used to classify the object into one of several categories based on the detection of materials on the object. The behaviour of the material classification methods is investigated under non-ideal circumstances, to determine the effect of weathered materials, and the behaviour when the training library is missing a material that is present in the object being observed. The proposed CNN-based recommendation system explores the domains of deep learning and content-based approaches, empowering users to discover their favorite tunes swiftly. Background: Bibliometric analysis is a mature method for quantitative evaluation of academic productivity. In view of the rapid development of research in the field of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in the past decade, we used bibliometric methods to comprehensively analyze the literature in the field of SLE from 2013 to 2022. Methods: The relevant literature in the field of SLE from 2013 to 2022 was screened in the Web of Science Core Collection database. After obtaining and sorting out the data, CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were used to visualize the relevant data, and SPSS software was used for scientific statistics. Results: A total of 18,450 publications were included in this study. The number of articles published over the past 10 years has generally shown an upward trend, while Altmetric attention scores have also shown a clear upward trend in general and in most countries. Citation analysis and Altmetric analysis can mutually prove and supplement the influence of papers. The USA, China, Japan, Italy, and the UK are the most productive countries, but China and Japan are significantly inferior to other countries in terms of research influence. Four of the top ten authors are at the center of the collaboration network. LUPUS is the most contributing journal. The theme of systemic lupus erythematosus research mainly focuses on the pathogenesis, treatment, and management of SLE, and the emerging trend is related research on machine learning and immune cells. Radio Frequency (RF) Nano Electro Mechanical Switches (NEMS) using Carbon Nanotube (CNTs) are preferred for electronic switching due to its high stiffness, switching speeds and ultra-low mass over several GHz range. CNT switch for microwave and millimeter wave applications utilizing a maximum of three CNTs with fixed starting positions of CNTs from zero level offset to obtain better isolation (S21) of the switch in DOWN State has already been studied. The motive of this paper is to obtain better RF performance in terms of return loss (S11) and isolation loss by modelling the switch in DOWN-state by varying the random positioning of CNTs, interelement spacing between CNTs, number of CNTs and frequency is predicted and reported using XG—Boost approach. Time-consuming optimization methods to predict the S-parameters in customized Electromagnetic (EM) simulators such as HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) have been resolved using the proposed XG-Boost regression approach. In this paper, the proposed XG-Boost approach minimizes the switch design time with random placement of CNTs by 99.81% compared to the conventional EM simulator which requires about 120 h for 400 simulations in an Intel-Core processor (2.50 GHz) with 8 GB RAM. To validate the results, they are compared to the HFSS model, and a high degree of agreement is found. The composition statistics of gynecological microscopic images play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecology. However, current methods mainly rely on manual analysis of microscopic images, which is time-consuming and subjective. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to develop a gynecological microscopic image component statistics method based on optical medical equipment and medical intelligent system to improve the accuracy and efficiency of gynecological diagnosis. The method of combining optical medical equipment and medical intelligent system is used to realize the automatic analysis of gynecological microscopic images. A large number of gynecological microscopic image samples were collected, and image processing technology was used to preprocess the images. Then computer vision algorithm and machine learning method are used to extract and classify the image features. Finally, the new gynecological microscopic images were analyzed statistically according to the trained model. The experimental results show that the method presented in this paper has a good effect on the composition statistics of gynecological microscopic images. As the number of logs generated by each node in the national high-performance computing environment continues to increase, manual analysis of abnormal logs has become slow and inaccurate. This makes it difficult to meet the requirements of daily system analysis. In response to this problem, this paper proposes a method for defining an abnormal log business model. Through the analysis of the exception logs of the multi-node system, this paper finds that the exception logs have a certain regularity and repeatability. Therefore, the abnormal logs can be detected by analyzing the log traffic pattern. This method uses machine learning algorithm to analyze log data in multi-node system, extract normal log traffic patterns, and use these patterns to detect abnormal behavior. Medical imaging, also known as radiology, is the field of medicine in which medical professionals recreate various images of parts of the body for diagnostic or treatment purposes. Medical imaging procedures include non-invasive tests that allow doctors to diagnose injuries and diseases without being intrusive TechTarget (n.d.). A number of tools and techniques are used to automate the analysis of medical images acquired with various image processing methods. The brain is one of the largest and most complex organs of the human body and anomaly detection from brain images (i.e., MRI, CT, PET, etc.) is one of the major research areas of medical image analysis. Image processing methods such as filtering and thresholding models, geometry models, graph models, region-based analysis, connected component analysis, machine learning (ML) models, the recent deep learning (DL) models, and various hybrid models are used in brain image analysis. Brain tumors are one of the most common brain diseases with a high mortality rate, and it is difficult to analyze from brain images for the versatility of the shape, location, size, texture, and other characteristics. In this paper, a comprehensive review on brain tumor image analysis is presented with basic ideas of brain tumor, brain imaging, brain image analysis tasks, brain image analysis models, brain tumor image features, performance metrics used for evaluating the models, and some available datasets on brain tumor/medical images. Atmospheric extreme events cause severe damage to human societies and ecosystems. The frequency and intensity of extremes and other associated events are continuously increasing due to climate change and global warming. The accurate prediction, characterization, and attribution of atmospheric extreme events is, therefore, a key research field in which many groups are currently working by applying different methodologies and computational tools. Machine learning and deep learning methods have arisen in the last years as powerful techniques to tackle many of the problems related to atmospheric extreme events. This paper reviews machine learning and deep learning approaches applied to the analysis, characterization, prediction, and attribution of the most important atmospheric extremes. A summary of the most used machine learning and deep learning techniques in this area, and a comprehensive critical review of literature related to ML in EEs, are provided. The critical literature review has been extended to extreme events related to rainfall and floods, heatwaves and extreme temperatures, droughts, severe weather events and fog, and low-visibility episodes. A case study focused on the analysis of extreme atmospheric temperature prediction with ML and DL techniques is also presented in the paper. Limitations in computer-assisted diagnosis include lack of labeled data and inability to model the relation between what experts see and what computers learn. Even though artificial intelligence and machine learning have demonstrated remarkable performances in medical image computing, their accountability and transparency level must be improved to transfer this success into clinical practice. The reliability of machine learning decisions must be explained and interpreted, especially for supporting the medical diagnosis. While deep learning techniques are broad so that unseen information might help learn patterns of interest, human insights to describe objects of interest help in decision-making. This paper proposes a novel approach, DeepCraftFuse, to address the challenge of combining information provided by deep networks with visual-based features to significantly enhance the correct identification of cancerous tissues in patients affected with Barrett's esophagus (BE). We demonstrate that DeepCraftFuse outperforms state-of-the-art techniques on private and public datasets, reaching results of around 95% when distinguishing patients affected by BE that is either positive or negative to esophageal cancer. Multi-Object Tracking, also known as Multi-Target Tracking, is an important area of computer vision with various applications in different domains. The advent of deep learning has had a profound impact on this field, forcing researchers to explore innovative avenues. Deep learning methods have become the cornerstone of today's state-of-the-art solutions, consistently delivering exceptional tracking results. However, the significant computational demands of deep learning models require powerful hardware resources that do not always match real-time tracking requirements, limiting their practical applicability in real-world scenarios. Thus, there is an imperative to strike a balance by merging robust deep learning strategies with conventional approaches to enable more accessible, cost-effective solutions that meet real-time requirements. This paper embarks on this endeavor by presenting a hybrid strategy for real-time multi-target tracking. It effectively combines a classical optical flow algorithm with a deep learning architecture tailored for human crowd tracking systems. This hybrid approach achieves a commendable balance between tracking accuracy and computational efficiency. The proposed architecture, subjected to extensive experimentation in various settings, demonstrated notable results, achieving a Mean Object Tracking Accuracy (MOTA) of 0.608. This level of performance placed it as the highest ranking solution on the MOT15 benchmark, surpassing the state-of-the-art benchmark of 0.549, and consistently ranked among the superior models on the MOT17 and MOT20 benchmarks. Additionally, the incorporation of the optical flow phase resulted in a substantial reduction in processing time, nearly halving the duration, while simultaneously maintaining accuracy levels comparable to established techniques. The data-driven modular deep fuzzy model has demonstrated excellent forecasting performance due to its clear architecture and powerful fuzzy inference ability. However, the fixed structure predesigned for specific types of datasets limits the further improvement of generalization ability, especially when facing high-dimensional datasets with the challenging problem of rule explosion, thereby suffering from the time-consuming training process. To overcome these limitations, a novel randomized fuzzy modules (RFMs) stacked residual deep fuzzy system (RFM-RDFS) is proposed in this study. Firstly, to obtain high-precision outputs, this paper presents a residual deep fuzzy framework by stacking RFMs layer by layer, where the modules in the current layer only learn the residual of the previous layer. Secondly, to improve the design freedom for different applications, the RFM with multiple inputs is raised, where the input variables are allocated by a sliding window along the input spaces of the layers, so the number of the parallel modules in the same layer can be flexibly adjusted. Meanwhile, in the RFM, inspired by the extreme learning machine, the centers and widths of Gaussian membership functions are randomly generated, which can greatly accelerate the training speed. Thirdly, to strengthen the approximation performance, the consequent parameters of the fuzzy rules in each RFM are learned by minimizing the loss function with the regularization terms through the ridge regression algorithm. Finally, extensive experiments on various datasets are conducted to compare the proposed RFM-RDFS with several state-of-the-art shallow and deep models. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a condition that degenerates over time and impairs speech and pronunciation because brain cells have died. This research work aims to predict parkinson disease using the voice features extracted from speech signals recorded from PD individuals with dysphonic speech disorders by employing deep learning algorithms. PD is challenging to diagnose early on in the clinical presentation. To address the issue in machine learning methods, this paper proposes a neural network model by processing speech signals to classify PD using the University of California Irvine (UCI) machine learning repository dataset. Initially, a pre-loss reduction module is created by using pre-sampling to make the dataset balanced by reducing the dimensionality and maintaining the size of the space without influencing the learning process for data preparation. The relevant features are derived using a novel multi-agent salp swarm (MASS) algorithm, and a novel Parkinson classification neural network (PCNN) is proposed to classify Parkinson's patients with high accuracy employing these derived features. The result shows that the models that use MASS-PCNN produce higher classification accuracy of 99.1%, precision of 97.8%, recall of 94.7% and F1-score of 0.995 when paralleled to the existing models. Once realized, autonomous aerial refueling will revolutionize unmanned aviation by removing current range and endurance limitations. Previous attempts at establishing vision-based solutions have come close but rely heavily on near perfect extrinsic camera calibrations that often change midflight. In this paper, we propose dual object detection, a technique that overcomes such requirement by transforming aerial refueling imagery directly into receiver aircraft reference frame probe-to-drogue vectors regardless of camera position and orientation. These vectors are precisely what autonomous agents need to successfully maneuver the tanker and receiver aircraft in synchronous flight during refueling operations. Our method follows a common 4-stage process of capturing an image, finding 2D points in the image, matching those points to 3D object features, and analytically solving for the object pose. However, we extend this pipeline by simultaneously performing these operations across two objects instead of one using machine learning and add a fifth stage that transforms the two pose estimates into a relative vector. Furthermore, we propose a novel supervised learning method using bounding box corrections such that our trained artificial neural networks can accurately predict 2D image points corresponding to known 3D object points. Personalized learning has gained significant attention in education as a means to cater to the diverse needs of learners and optimize educational outcomes. However, ensuring the efficiency of personalized learning remains a challenge. It requires the ability to accurately analyze and interpret vast amounts of data collected from learners. Traditional analytical approaches often struggle to handle the complexity and heterogeneity of this data, limiting the potential for personalized learning interventions. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a personalized learning efficiency data analysis network (PLEDANet) based on machine learning. First, PLEDANet redesigns a convolutional neural network based on the ResNet structure. The network performs convolutions using multiple convolution kernels of different scales to extract diverse feature information from personalized learning efficiency data. To enhance the extraction and representation of fine-grained differentiated features, PLEDANet introduces a hybrid attention module to combine channel and spatial information among feature maps. Second, PLEDANet designs a hybrid loss function for model training, which consists of the AM-softmax loss and the Center loss. The former increases the inter-class distance of features by imposing a fixed angular margin, while the latter reduces the intra-class distance by constraining the samples and feature centers. In the food industry, the increasing use of automatic processes in the production line is contributing to the higher probability of finding contaminants inside food packages. Detecting these contaminants before sending the products to market has become a critical necessity. This paper presents a pioneering real-time system for detecting contaminants within food and beverage products by integrating microwave (MW) sensing technology with machine learning (ML) tools. Considering the prevalence of water and oil as primary components in many food and beverage items, the proposed technique is applied to both media. The approach involves a thorough examination of the MW sensing system, from selecting appropriate frequency bands to characterizing the antenna in its near-field region. The process culminates in the collection of scattering parameters to create the datasets, followed by classification using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) learning algorithm. Binary and multiclass classifications are performed on two types of datasets, including those with complex numbers and amplitude data only. Customer churn remains a critical concern for businesses, highlighting the significance of retaining existing customers over acquiring new ones. Effective prediction of potential churners aids in devising robust retention policies and efficient customer management strategies. This study dives into the realm of machine learning algorithms for predictive analysis in churn prediction, addressing the inherent challenge posed by diverse and imbalanced customer churn data distributions. This paper introduces a novel approach—the Ratio-based data balancing technique, which addresses data skewness as a pre-processing step, ensuring improved accuracy in predictive modelling. This study fills gaps in existing literature by highlighting the effectiveness of ensemble algorithms and the critical role of data balancing techniques in optimizing churn prediction models. While our research contributes a novel approach, there remain avenues for further exploration. This work evaluates several machine learning algorithms—Perceptron, Multi-Layer Perceptron, Naive Bayes, Logistic Regression, K-Nearest Neighbour, Decision Tree, alongside Ensemble techniques such as Gradient Boosting and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost)—on balanced datasets achieved through our proposed Ratio-based data balancing technique and the commonly used Data Resampling. Results reveal that our proposed Ratio-based data balancing technique notably outperforms traditional Over-Sampling and Under-Sampling methods in churn prediction accuracy. Additionally, using combined algorithms like Gradient Boosting and XGBoost showed better results than using single methods. Our study looked at different aspects like Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F-Score, finding that these combined methods are better for predicting customer churn. In the past decades, a variety of learning-based algorithms have been emerged to try to explore a better solution for stereo matching by leveraging various machine learning algorithms. For enriching learning-based stereo matching algorithm's methodologies, we cast the disparity estimation as a regression problem by leveraging Structured Support Vector Machine (SSVM) in this paper. There are three categories of features have been extracted on account of disparity cues for training the SSVM. Particularly, one of the three feature is named as 'Coarse-to-Fine PatchMatch Filtering', which effectively exploits region and pixel disparity cues. For attaining region disparity cues, we adopt MeshStereo and MeshStereo with Cross-Scale algorithms; for attaining pixel disparity cues, PatchMatch and Cross-Scale PatchMatch stereo matching algorithms are utilized. Performance evaluations on Middlebury v.2 and v.3 stereo data sets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm reveals comparable accuracy with other challenging learning-based ones. This paper introduces a design of ternary bistale ring physical unclonable function (BRPUF) based on carbon nanotube field effect transistors (CNTFETs). PUFs can extract unique chip features from process variations and assign every chip an inherent fingerprint to be used for identification or authentication of devices. As the main point of strength for PUF security, the size of challenge-response pairs (CRPs) can be increased by adopting multi-valued logic designs. The proposed ternary BRPUF blends higher entropy into CRPs and is tested to produce unbiased response digits, thus making them more unpredictable and more resistant against machine learning attacks. The instinctive features of CNTFETs, such as intensive process variations and high tolerance against temperature fluctuations and noises, enable our design to function robustly in a wide range of operating conditions. The proposed design has been implemented using standard 32-nm CNTFET model libraries and tested by HSPICE simulations. With the rapid development of quantum machine learning (QML), quantum convolutional neural networks (QCNN) have been proposed and shown advantages in classification problems. An intrusion detection system (IDS) based on the QML method is proven to have higher accuracy than IDS based on the traditional machine learning (ML) method. However, the multiple convolution pooling operations of QCNN will cause the loss of valuable data features, resulting in a large error in the final measurement results. In this paper, we design an IDS model of QCNN based on a variational quantum neural network (VQNN), which can effectively reduce data feature loss and improve detection accuracy. We compare this model with traditional ML models such as artificial neural network (ANN), logistic regression (LR), K-nearest neighbor (KNN) algorithm, support vector machine (SVM), and decision tree (DT). Conventional image processing and machine learning based on handcrafted features struggle to meet the real time and high-accuracy requirements for industrial defect detection in complex, sensitive, and dynamic environments. To address this issue, this paper proposes AENet, a novel real-time defect detection network based on an encoder-decoder model, which achieves high detection accuracy and efficiency while demonstrating excellent convergence and generalization. Firstly, a spatial channel attention module in the encoding network is designed to exploit both spatial attention and channel attention using a multi-head 3D self-attention mechanism. This improves parallelism and detection efficiency. Secondly, the decoding network of AENet incorporates the cross-level attention fusion module, which fuses input features from different layers. Combined with multi-level upsampling design, the decoder enhances the representation of defect details. Furthermore, we insert a simplified aggregator into the encoder-decoder network to extract feature information at different scales with low computational cost. This aggregation process aids in training and inference on industrial defect datasets by incorporating contextual information. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that AENet outperforms other segmentation models in accomplishing defect recognition and segmentation in challenging optical environments. It exhibits a faster convergence than other networks and a balance between accuracy and speed. It achieves a recognition accuracy of over 96% for almost all types of defects in the actual industrial environment on the NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPU. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Artificial intelligence and the underlying machine learning (ML) methods are increasingly finding their way into our working world. One of these areas is sales planning, where machine learning is used to leverage a variety of different input parameters such as prices, promotions, or the weather, to forecast sales, and therefore directly affects the production of products and goods. To satisfy the goal of environmental sustainability as well as address short shelf life, the food industry represents an interesting application field for the use of ML for optimizing sales planning. Within this paper, we will examine the design, and especially the application, of ML methods in the food industry and show the current challenges that exist in the use of such concepts and technologies from the end-user's point of view. Our study of a smaller bakery company shows that there are enormous challenges in setting up the appropriate infrastructure and processes for the implementation of ML, that the output quality of ML processes does not always match the perceived result quality, and that trust in the functioning of the algorithms is the most important criterion for using ML processes in practice. The negotiation of stakeholder values as a collaborative process throughout technology development has been studied extensively within the fields of Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Human-Computer Interaction. Despite their increasing significance for cybersecurity incident response, there is a gap in research on values of importance to the design of open-source intelligence (OSINT) technologies for this purpose. In this paper, we investigate which values and value conflicts emerge due to the application and development of machine learning (ML) based OSINT technologies to assist cyber security incident response operators. For this purpose, we employ a triangulation of methods, consisting of a systematic survey of the technical literature on the development of OSINT artefacts for cybersecurity (N = 73) and an empirical value sensitive design case study, comprising semi-structured interviews with stakeholders (N = 9) as well as a focus group (N = 7) with developers. Impact craters are formed due to the high-speed collisions between small to medium-sized celestial bodies. Impact is the most significant driving force in the evolution of celestial bodies, and the impact craters provide crucial insights into the formation, evolution, and impact history of celestial bodies. In this paper, we present a detailed review of the characteristics of impact craters, impact crater remote sensing data, recognition algorithms, and applications related to impact craters. We first provide a detailed description of the geometric texture, illumination, and morphology characteristics observed in remote sensing data of craters. Then we summarize the remote sensing data and cataloging databases for the four terrestrial planets (i.e., the Moon, Mars, Mercury, and Venus), as well as the impact craters on Ceres. Subsequently, we study the advancement achieved in the traditional methods, machine learning methods, and deep learning methods applied to the classification, segmentation, and recognition of impact craters. Furthermore, based on the analysis results, we discuss the existing challenges in impact crater recognition and suggest some solutions. Finally, we explore the implementation of impact crater detection algorithms and provide a forward-looking perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
