Sport Australia released the Australian Physical Literacy Framework (APLF) in 2019 to advance a national agenda for physical literacy (PL) and specifically, clarify and promote the development of PL in Australian sport and education sectors. For teachers, this policy initiative followed a period of curriculum development guided by the Australian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education (AC: HPE). The AC: HPE makes no explicit reference to PL, but nevertheless seeks to support young people to lead active healthy lives. This study acknowledged that HPE teachers are now challenged to navigate the divide between the APLF and AC: HPE and find ways to appropriately integrate the APLF into HPE programmes. The premise for the study was that investigating conceptual 'common ground' between the APLF and AC: HPE in relation to PL could provide an important foundation for coherent policy enactment. Accordingly, Whitehead's (2001) foundational conceptualisation of PL was employed as an analytic framework for examination of both policy texts. The purpose was to identify points of conceptual connection between the APLF, AC: HPE and Whitehead's conceptualisation of PL, and thereby strategically extend the PL discourses 'at play' across the Australian sport and education sectors. Findings suggest that while the AC: HPE and the APLF reflect differing policy agendas, the two texts both have some points of alignment with dimensions of Whitehead's framework. Discussion pursues the significance of distinctions and commonalities identified and addresses issues that HPE teachers and other stakeholders need to consider to promote a coherent approach to PL in Australia. This Australian case study explored the implementation of strategies to support the development of a positive school culture among whole school staff. A participatory action research approach was used to involve leadership staff in the development of a mixed method assessment of the school organisation. Baseline data from the School Organisational Health Questionnaire (n = 28) and qualitative data from focus groups (n = 15) were collected and presented to the leadership team who identified four foci for the study: appraisal and recognition, participative decision-making, professional growth and supportive leadership. After a range of interventions, findings from both post-test surveys (n = 22) and qualitative data (n = 30) suggested a change in leadership style was a key factor of school cultural change across all factors. Corporate venture (CV) units constitute vehicles through which firms may act ambidextrously, thereby increasing their longevity, but they suffer from a high failure rate. The authors examine why and how some CV units last significantly longer than others. They argue that CV units endure by developing an ambidextrous orientation themselves—they build new capabilities for the parent firm while simultaneously leveraging its existing strengths. They argue that CV units become ambidextrous by nurturing a supportive relational context, defined by the strength of their relationships with three different sets of actors—parent firm executives, business unit managers, and members of the venture capital community. Background: Planned or unplanned reconstruction of the common femoral artery (femoro-femoral crossover and/or patch closure) may be required following endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) stent graft deployment for arterial closure or maintenance of limb perfusion. The aim of this study was to examine the incidence of common femoral artery reconstruction (FAR) following EVAR and examine the effect on patient survival. Methods: A total of 178 patients undergoing EVAR were studied retrospectively. Results: In all, 31 patients (17.4%) underwent FAR; 16 (51.6%) femoro-femoral crossover, and 15 (48.4%) endarterectomy and patch closure. All cause survival in patients undergoing FAR was significantly poorer than those undergoing direct closure (P = .010).A total of 3 factors: the need for FAR (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.435, P = .006), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ([COPD] HR = 0.424, P = .002), and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) size (HR = 1.414, P = .005) were significantly and independently associated with survival on forward conditional analysis. Conclusions: Femoral artery reconstruction was performed in almost 1 in 5 patients undergoing EVAR and associated with decreased survival. This study into the reading patterns and choices of three- to six-year old Aboriginal children revealed that children chose books that promoted social interactions between family members and wider social networks. Books selected most often promoted child agency and problem solving with a cause effect narrative structure, rather than books of lists and descriptive captions. The children’s fathers were actively involved in contributing to their family’s literacy development and often read aloud to multi-age groups of children in the home. The study revealed that most families had few children’s books in the home and that access to children’s books was limited, while also demonstrating the appeal of good-quality children’s literature in generating numerous re-readings of favourite books. This article describes a collaborative teacher-researcher project exploring how 4—8-year-old children understood and worked with new forms of literacy at home and at school. Twenty-five teacher-researchers investigated young children’s home based multimodal funds of knowledge and then planned school or preschool curriculum based on these findings. The project revealed that children, independent of geographic location, had access to and could use information technologies far in advance of teachers’ expectations and had access to equipment beyond that available in many of the schools and preschools. In response to children’s use of and engagement with new literacies the teacher-researchers developed a framework known as the Multiliteracies Map. This framework was used in a state-wide early years professional learning programme to support curriculum planning for new forms of literacy. The teacher-researchers became the facilitators of the professional learning programme that took place in local districts and regions. Objectives: Studies suggest that hand osteoarthritis (OA) can result in impairment of hand function and participation restriction. The objective of the current study was to investigate the impact of functional impairments caused by hand OA on everyday life. Methods: Semi-structured interviews with primary care (n=15; mean age 62.4 years; M:F ratio 1:4) and secondary care (n= 14; mean age 63.6 years; M:F ratio 1:13) patients aged 50 years and over were conducted. Data were analysed using thematic analysis and the constant comparison method. Results: Individuals reported impact across day-to-day activities. Perceptions of dependence and independence were important. They reported embarrassment due to the appearance of their hands and their inability to carry out 'normal' tasks. Work status had been affected for two of the participants. Negative emotional responses were captured. Participants utilized cognitive, behavioural and avoidance forms of coping. Conclusion: We have captured the impact of functional impairment on everyday life and related psychological effects. With a retirement age increasing, the study raises the potential issue of future employment restriction for those with hand OA. Individuals utilising 'temporal' comparison as a form of coping may be less well adjusted to their hand problem, which could have implications for future management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Idea sets—the complete stock of entrepreneurial ideas an individual has accessible within his or her memory at any given time—are proposed as a new unit of analysis through which the antecedents, processes, and outcomes of entrepreneurial opportunity recognition may be more fully understood. A number of dimensions are identified along which one person's idea set may be compared with that of another person. These comprise the novelty, volume, content, stage of development, strategic value logic, and composite knowledge configuration of ideas within the idea set. The idea set construct and the methods advocated for its empirical operationalization provide a differentiated, comprehensive approach to investigating entrepreneurial opportunities. They also help to overcome sample selection and survival biases characterizing empirical research in this domain. Tissue distribution, bioavailability, and efficacy of alendronate in preventing progression of resorption of teeth were evaluated in cats. [Butyl-4-14C-]-alendronate accumulates on subgingival tooth and alveolar bone surfaces adjacent to vascularized tissue resulting in concentration of the drug around tooth roots. Three cats were treated with a 0.03 mg/kg IV bolus of [butyl-4-14C-]-alendronate followed by blood, urine, and feces collection and euthanasia 24-hours later. Drug tissue distribution was accessed by autoradiography and sample combustion. To assess bioavailability, 12 cats were administered alendronate orally (3.0 or 9.0 mg/kg in water or 9.0 mg/kg in tuna water) and urine was collected for 24-hours. In these formulations, alendronate oral bioavailability in cats was approximately 3 %. In addition, 10 cats with radiographic evidence of pre-existing tooth resorption (14 affected teeth) were treated with vehicle or 3.0 mg/kg alendronate per os once weekly for 22-weeks and, then, 9.0 mg/kg per os twice weekly for 27-weeks in a random, masked study. Field experiences structured around a course in Language Arts can provide in-depth opportunities for preservice teachers to interact and learn from children who are exploring language processes. The field-based program described by Hill integrates the current theoretical knowledge of how elementary school children develop oral and written language processes with the role of the teacher as researcher and reflective practitioner in understanding and planning for effective teaching. This article presents a model for the use of multisite, sonographic imaging to assess arteriosclerosis. The arteries of 100 randomly selected patients were scanned in three anatomical areas (carotid, femoral-popliteal, aorta-iliac) in conjunction with measurement of selected risk factors (smoking, cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoproteins, antioxidant levels). Arteries were interrogated for intimal wall hyperplasia, plaque, and ulceration. Multisite scanning (24 sites) detected the presence of pathology in all sites surveyed. The article presents a case study a 53 year old woman who suffered from a iliac vein rupture. The woman complained of pain in her left hip and collapsed at home. Physicians examined her and got shocked with tachycardia of 230 beat per minute and a systolic blood pressure of 50 mmHg. A tender non-pulsatile mass was found in the left iliac fossa. Both femoral pulses were there and the legs were free from venous thrombosis.

This paper considers opportunities for a partnership approach to leadership development in a Western Australian context. It draws on the findings of a collaborative research project undertaken by three school leader associations and a university faculty of education. Following discussions of the Western Australian context and the need to move towards more client-aware forms of leadership development, project evidence is presented to reveal attitudes and requirements of school leaders, both primary and secondary, for their career development. Four sets of issues are then identified, which will require the attention of policymakers, planners and all potential stakeholders, in setting up a Centre for School Leadership.
