Abstract

Field experiences structured around a course in Language Arts can provide in-depth opportunities for preservice teachers to interact and learn from children who are exploring language processes. The field-based program described by Hill integrates the current theoretical knowledge of how elementary school children develop oral and written language processes with the role of the teacher as researcher and reflective practitioner in understanding and planning for effective teaching.
