Osteosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor that commonly occurs in children. Anticancer drugs, for example, cisplatin, aid in postsurgery recovery but induce side effects such as renal damage, affecting the life prognosis of patients. Decursin which is one of the bioactive components has been reported for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor effects, but the effect on osteosarcoma is unexplained. In this study, the research theme was to examine the sensitizing effect of decursin and its influence on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. The cell viability and half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50), apoptosis induction, and effect on cell cycle and Akt pathways were examined. In vivo, we examine the effects of decursin on tumors and mice bodies. Additionally, the effects of the cisplatin-decursin combination were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Decursin suppressed cell viability and induced apoptosis via the cell cycle. Decursin also inhibited the Akt pathway by suppressing the phosphorylation of Akt. It enhanced apoptosis induction and lowered cell viability in combination with cisplatin. The increasing tumor volume was suppressed in the decursin-administrated group with further suppression in combination with cisplatin compared to sole cisplatin administration. The decrease in renal function and renal epithelial cell damage caused by cisplatin was improved by the combinatorial treatment with decursin. Therefore, decursin demonstrated an antitumor effect on the osteosarcoma cells and a renal protective effect in combination with cisplatin. Objectives. The aim of this postmarket clinical study was to assess the safety and efficacy of the latest generation polymer-free sirolimus-eluting stents (PF-SES) in an all-comers population comparing outcomes in stable coronary artery disease (CAD) versus acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in France. Background. The efficacy and safety of the first-generation PF-SES have already been demonstrated by randomized controlled trials and "all-comers" observational studies. Methods. For this all-comers observational, prospective, multicenter study, 1456 patients were recruited in 22 French centers. The primary endpoint was target lesion revascularization (TLR) rate at 12 months and secondary endpoints included major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and bleeding. Results. 895 patients had stable CAD and 561 had ACS. At 12 months, 2% of patients had a TLR, with similar rates between stable CAD and ACS (1.9% vs 2.2%, p = 0.7). The overall MACE rate was 5.2% with an expected higher rate in patients with ACS as compared to those with stable CAD (7.3% vs 3.9%, p = 0.007). The overall bleeding event rate was 4.5%, with similar rates in stable CAD as compared to ACS patients (3.8% vs 5.6%, p = 0.3). Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) interruptions prior to the recommended duration occurred in 41.7% of patients with no increase in MACE rates as compared to patients who did not prematurely interrupt DAPT (3.9% vs 6.1%, p = 0.073). Conclusions. The latest generation PF-SES is associated with low clinical event rates in these all-comers patients. Conducting polymers have shown great potential in detecting gases at room temperature. This has caused the rapid development of these materials for gas sensing because their conductivity can be altered when exposed to oxidant or reductant molecules at room temperature. Nevertheless, due to their relatively high attraction to volatile organic and water molecules and low conductivity, they show low sensitivity, selectivity, and thermal instability that impede their practical applications as sensors. Moreover, semiconducting inorganic (metal oxide) sensors show distinct advantages in sensing gases, including high sensitivity, rapid response to low-concentration analytes, versatile exterior or surface chemistry, and high-surface area. However, their high-temperature operation has limited their sensing applications while performing excellently at room temperature. Combining these two sensitive materials brings synergistic effects. The hybrid increases sensitivity, selectivity, long-term stability, and low-temperature operation, which has concerned extensive interest in their use as sensors. This review summarizes the use of semiconducting metal oxides, conducting polymers, and the recent advancement in metal oxide-conducting polymer composites for their gas-sensing applications. Moreover, in this review, the advantages and limitations of these sensor materials are presented, and why the composites give an excellent synergistic effect by increasing sensing performance have been highlighted. This study aimed to explore the effect and mechanism of Dragon's Blood on wound healing in patients with a pressure hand injury. A total of 120 patients with pressure hand injury treated in our hospital were randomly divided into two groups. Sixty patients in the control group were dressed with sterile gauze, and 60 patients in the observation group were smeared with blood exhaustion. The clinical effects and serological indexes of the two groups were compared, and the mechanism of wound healing was analyzed. The results showed that the treatment effective rate of the control group was 80% and that of the observation group was 93.33%. The treatment effective rate of the observation group was dramatically higher (P < 0.05). The number of patients with good granulation tissue in the observation group was 53, which was dramatically greater than that in the control group. The number of patients with a small amount of wound exudation was 51, which was dramatically greater than that in the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-3), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and transforming growth factor B1 (TGF-B1) in the observation group increased more dramatically (P < 0.05). The level of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) decreased to 617.23 ng/L in the observation group, and the degree of reduction was more obvious (P < 0.05). Notably, Dragon's Blood promoted wound healing at the injury site by increasing the levels of MMP-3, VEGF, and TGF-B1and decreasing TIMP-1. The area of wound reduction in the observation group was 0.27 cm2, and the reduction was more obvious (P < 0.05). The healing time of pressure hand injury in the observation group was 15.27 days, which was dramatically shorter (P < 0.05). Background. BMI has been evaluated as an old criterion to evaluate obesity in individuals, but it does not assess abdominal obesity and lean mass. We aimed to evaluate the possible relationship of new anthropometric indices (namely, a body shape index (ABSI), the body roundness index (BRI), the visceral adiposity index (VAI), the visceral fat area (VFA), and waist-hip ratio (WHR)), with one of the known critical factors of atherosclerosis, arterial stiffness. Methods. Overall 5921 individuals were enrolled and were divided into four groups according to BMI. Novel anthropometric parameters including, ABSI, BRI, VAI, VFA, and WHR were calculated. The carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV) was used to evaluate arterial stiffness. Multiple regression analysis was performed to assess the relationship between cf-PWV and innovative Anthropometric indices. Results. This study population consisted of 3109 women and 2812 males. In men with overweight, cf-PWV was significantly related to BMI, ABSI, BRI, WC, VAI, VFA, and WHR. However, among men with obesity, cf-PWV was associated with BRI, VAI, and VFA. Among women with overweight, cf-PWV was also related to all mentioned indices except ABSI; although, cf-PWV was only associated with VFA and WHR in women with obesity. Conclusion. Our results showed that VFA in women and VAI in men are strongly related to arterial stiffness and can be used to identify predictors of vascular disease or organic vascular dysfunction. Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most challenging cancers to treat, accounting for many cancer‐related deaths. Over some years, chemotherapy, hormone treatment, radiation, and surgeries have been used to treat cancer. Unfortunately, these treatment options are unsuccessful due to crucial adverse reactions and multidrug tolerance/resistance. Although it is clear that substances in the nutraceuticals category have a lot of anti‐cancer activity, using a supplementary therapy strategy, in this case, could be very beneficial. Nutraceuticals are therapeutic agents, which are nutrients that have drug‐like characteristics and can be used to treat diseases. Plant nutraceuticals categorized into polyphenols, terpenoids, vitamins, alkaloids, and flavonoids are part of health food products, that have great potential for combating BC. Nutraceuticals can reduce BC's severity, limit malignant cell growth, and modify cancer‐related mechanisms. Nutraceuticals acting by attenuating Hedgehog, Nuclear factor kappa‐light‐chain‐enhancer of activated B cells (NF‐κB), Notch, and Wnt/β‐catenin signaling are the main pathways in controlling the self‐renewal of breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs). This article reviews some important nutraceuticals and their modes of action, which can be very powerful versus BC. Practical applications: Nutraceuticals' importance to the control and diagnosis of breast cancer is undeniable and cannot be overlooked. Natural dietary compounds have a wide range of uses and have been used in traditional medicine. In addition, these natural chemicals can enhance the effectiveness of other traditional medicines. They may also be used as a treatment process independently because of their capacity to affect several cancer pathways. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is chronic and etiologically linked to gastric cancer (GC) derived from gastric epithelium. The potential mechanism is complex, covering chronic inflammation, epithelial senescence, NF-κB activation, the cytotoxin-associated gene A protein translocation, and related abnormal signaling pathways. In clinical practice, the test-and-treat strategy, endoscopy-based strategy, and (family-based) screen-and-treat strategy are recommended to detect H. pylori and prevent GC. It has been demonstrated that the decreasing annual incidence of GC is largely attributable to the management of H. pylori. This study reviews the current clinical practice of H. pylori on the detection and eradication, alternative treatment strategies, and related problems and advances, and hopes to contribute to the better clinical management of H. pylori. Owing to its prevalent nature, diabetes mellitus has become one of the most serious endocrine illnesses affecting a patient's quality of life due to the manifestation of side effects such as cardiovascular diseases, retinopathy, neuropathy, and nephropathy. Curcumin ((1E, 6E) 21, 7‐bis (4‐hydroxy‐3‐methoxyphenyl)‐1,6‐heptadiene‐3,5‐dione), a major compound of turmeric, has been used in conventional medicine because of its safe nature and cost‐effectiveness to meliorate diabetes and its comorbidities. These effects have also been observed in rodent models of diabetes resulting in a reduction of glycemia and blood lipids. Both the preventive and therapeutic activities of this compound are due to its antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory characteristics. Furthermore, preclinical outcomes and clinical investigation demonstrate that the use of curcumin neutralizes insulin resistance, obesity, and hyperglycemia. Despite the many benefits of curcumin, its two limiting factors, solubility and bioavailability, remain a challenge for researchers; therefore, several methods such as drug formulation, nano‐drug delivery, and the use of curcumin analogs have been developed to deliver curcumin and increase its bioavailability. Practical applications: The rise of people with type 2 diabetes has become a major concern at the global healthcare level. The best diabetes treatments today are anti‐diabetic drug administration, lifestyle‐related interventions (such as healthy eating and daily physical activity), arterial pressure detection, and fat control. The polyphenol curcumin, found in turmeric, can promote health by acting on a variety of cellular signaling pathways. This review article discusses curcumin and its role in the treatment of diabetes. The reliable and accurate detection of bridges plays an important role in imaging-driven transportation surveillance. It is capable of timely providing the traffic information, leading to safer and more convenient transportation. However, the visual quality of observed images is often inevitably reduced owing to the adverse weather conditions, e.g., haze and low lightness. It is still difficult to adopt the existing powerful deep learning methods to reliably and accurately detect the bridges under different imaging conditions. To achieve satisfactory bridge detection results, we first propose to exploit the data augmentation strategy and physical imaging method to generate the natural-looking experimental dataset, which contains latent high-quality images and their hazy and low-light versions. We then investigate how to further promote the deep learning-based bridge detection methods through the manually generated dataset. It is obvious that the generalization abilities of these deep neural networks are significantly improved using this data augmentation strategy. In this work, we constructed an original dataset consisting of 3500 images of size 900×600, collected under normal imaging condition. Extensive detection experiments will be performed based on the augmented dataset. Experimental results have demonstrated that our automatic bridge detection framework could generate more reliable and accurate results compared with existing detection methods. The relationship between the thermal behavior and antioxidant stability of rosemary extract (RE) was investigated. Through simultaneous thermal analysis (TG‐DTA) and total phenolic content measurement, stability of RE below 200°C and the resistance of phenolics below 130°C have been found, revealing an asynchrony between weight loss and destruction of antioxidant capacity. Peroxide value, p‐anisidine value, TG‐DTA, Rancimat test, and kinetic analysis of chicken fat at 90–150°C were also carried out to further determine the antioxidant stability of RE on the oxidation and degradation of edible fats. Consequently, the highest antioxidant activity index is 6.49 at 120°C, and RE elevates the initial degradation point of chicken fat under thermal stress by reducing oxygen absorption. Besides, the antioxidant effect of RE is found to be weaker due to the thermal destruction of the phenolics, but a higher temperature below the destruction point can cause a better antioxidant effect. Novelty impact statement: The antioxidant effect of RE is related to temperature and the thermal stability of components.The thermal behavior and antioxidant stability of rosemary extract are inconsistent.Rosemary extract shows the best antioxidant effect below the destruction point (130 °C) despite the severer oxidation of chicken fat with increasing temperature. Background. Hypertension is an important risk factor of cardiovascular (CV) disease. An early diagnosis of target organ damage could prevent major CV events. Electrocardiography (ECG) is a valuable clinical technique, with wide availability and high specificity, used in evaluation of hypertensive patients. However, the use of ECG as a predictor tool is controversial given its low sensitivity. This study aims to characterise ECG features in a hypertensive population and identify ECG abnormalities that could predict CV events. Methods. We studied 175 hypertensive patients without previous CV events during a follow-up mean of 4.0 ± 2.20 years. ECGs and pulse wave velocity were performed in all patients. Clinical characteristics and ECG abnormalities were evaluated and compared between the patients as they presented CV events. Results. Considering the 175 patients (53.14% male), the median age was 62 years. Median systolic blood pressure was 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure was 78 mmHg. Median PWV was 9.8 m/s. Of the patients, 39.4% were diabetic, 78.3% had hyperlipidaemia, and 16.0% had smoking habits. ECG identified left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy in 29.71% of the patients, and a LV strain pattern was present in 9.7% of the patients. Twenty-nine patients (16.57%) had a CV event. Comparative analyses showed statistical significance for the presence of a LV strain pattern in patients with CV events (p = 0.01). Univariate and multivariate analysis confirmed that a LV strain pattern was an independent predictor of CV event (HR 2.66, 95% IC 1.01–7.00). In the survival analysis, the Kaplan–Meier curve showed a worse prognosis for CV events in patients with a LV strain pattern (p = 0.014). Conclusion. ECG is a useful daily method to identify end-organ damage in hypertensive patients. In our study, we also observed that it may be a valuable tool for the prediction of CV events. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of phosphatidylserine liposomes containing curcumin (PSLs‐Cur) on the development of osteoporosis induced by glucocorticoids (GCs) in the rat model. PSL‐Cur, phosphatidylserine (PSL), curcumin (Cur), and alendronate (AL) drugs as a positive control were administrated orally to evaluate the beneficial effects of 3‐week treatments on osteoporotic rats. The biochemical and biomechanical properties of bone parameters as well as gene expression were evaluated in treated rats. Moreover, histomorphometric examinations were performed on the bone tissues of the animals. The results revealed that PSL‐Cur oral administration caused a significant improvement in serum markers, mechanical strength, and OPG gene expression rather than PSL or Cur administration in osteoporotic rats. Also, PSL‐Cur significantly increased the thickness and volume of cortical and trabecular bone mass in comparison with the untreated osteoporotic group. The results of this study indicated that PSL‐Cur had a more inhibitory effect on bone loss induced by GCs compared to AL standard drug. Our findings suggested that PSL‐loaded Cur may be an appropriate alternative therapy for glucocorticoid‐induced osteoporosis. Practical applications: Osteoporosis is one of the most serious metabolic chronic diseases that causes fragile bone due to decreased mineral density and microarchitectural deterioration in humans. The osteoprotective effects of curcumin and phosphatidylserine, as a food spice and supplementary diet, respectively, have been shown, previously. However, the low bioavailability of curcumin (Cur) due to its poor absorption, rapid metabolism, and fast systemic elimination, limits its benefits. This deficit can be modified with phosphatidylserine liposome (PSL) formulation that facilitates the gastrointestinal delivery of Cur. Moreover, PSL is known as an osteoprotective agent that may make synergy effect with Cur against GC‐induced osteoporosis. In this study, daily oral administration of phosphatidylserine liposomes containing curcumin (PSL‐Cur) for 3 weeks, considerably improved biochemical, biomechanical, and gene expression of bone parameters in the treated animals subjected to osteoporosis. PSL‐Cur can significantly increase the thickness and volume of cortical and trabecular bone mass as well as the mechanical bone strength in animals. The present study examined the activity and function of the pig OCT4 enhancer in the porcine early embryonic development stage and porcine authentic embryonic stem cells. OCT4 is known as a pluripotent regulator, and its upstream regulatory region-based dual-fluorescence protein reporter system controlled by distal and proximal enhancers is broadly used in studies examining the states and mechanism of pluripotency. We analyzed how this reporter system functions during early embryo development and in stem cells using a previously established porcine-specific reporter system. We demonstrated that the porcine OCT4 distal enhancer and proximal enhancer were activated with different expression patterns simultaneously as the expression of pluripotent marker genes changed during the development of in vitro pathenotes and the establishment of porcine embryonic stem cells (ESCs). This work demonstrates the applicability of the porcine OCT4 upstream region-derived dual-fluorescence reporter system, which may be applied to investigations of species-specific pluripotency in porcine-origin cells. This systematic review addresses the central research question, "what is known from the published, peer-reviewed literature about the impact of diabetes on the risk of bacterial urinary tract infections (UTI)?" We examine the results from laboratory studies where researchers have successfully adapted mouse models of diabetes to study the pathophysiology of ascending UTI. These studies have identified molecular and cellular effectors shaping immune defenses against infection of the diabetic urinary tract. In addition, we present evidence from clinical studies that in addition to diabetes, female gender, increased age, and diabetes-associated hyperglycemia, glycosuria, and immune impairment are important risk factors which further increase the risk of UTI in diabetic individuals. Clinical studies also show that the uropathogenic genera causing UTI are largely similar between diabetic and nondiabetic individuals, although diabetes significantly increases risk of UTI by drug-resistant uropathogenic bacteria. Purpose. To evaluate the correlation of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) with visual field for global and sector-based indices among glaucoma and glaucoma-suspected eyes. Patients and Methods. This is a retrospective study, and in total, 48 glaucoma eyes and 31 glaucoma suspect eyes were included. The correlation between visual field parameters and radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) vessel density via OCTA was compared to the correlation with retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness via SD-OCT. The RPC vessel density and RNFL thickness were divided into eight sectors, which included the temporal upper, temporal lower, superotemporal, inferotemporal, superonasal, inferonasal, nasal upper, and nasal lower sectors. Pearson correlations with 95% confidence intervals were calculated with resampling, and correlations were compared with a Fisher Z transformation. Results. Both RPC vessel density (R = 0.63, 95% CI [0.24, 0.86]) and RNFL thickness (R = 0.49, 95% CI [0.23, 0.69]) were correlated with the mean deviation when comparing global indices of glaucoma patients. In glaucoma suspects, the correlations between the mean deviation and RPC vessel density (R = 0.21, 95% CI [−0.05, 0.49]) and RNFL thickness (R = 0.01, 95% CI [−0.35, 0.39]) were not significant. Glaucoma eyes had the highest correlation between the mean sensitivity and RPC vessel density and RNFL thickness for the superotemporal, superonasal, temporal upper, and inferotemporal sectors. Conclusion. Across a diverse population and heterogeneous glaucoma types, RPC vessel density measurements correlate with global and sector-wise visual field indices similar to RNFL thickness. This paper proposes two bandwidth and power efficient multicode multicarrier spread spectrum (MCSS) system modes based on a new cyclic shift orthogonal keying (CSOK) scheme that leads to low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) signals. Both system modes can improve the bandwidth efficiency by loading more data bits per symbol block. The first system mode is the hybrid CSOK (HCSOK) mode, which combines phase shift keying (PSK) or quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation symbol with the CSOK symbol, for example, the important hybrid quadrature PSK (QPSK)-CSOK case. The second is the quadrature CSOK (QCSOK) mode that transmits two parallel binary phase shift keying (BPSK)-CSOK branches at the same time. For both modes, maximum likelihood receivers are derived and simplified, leading to efficient fast Fourier transform-based structures for maximum ratio combining and cyclic-code correlation. Theoretical bit error rate (BER) analysis is conducted for the hybrid QPSK-CSOK case. Simulation results demonstrate that both the two system modes considerably outperforms the traditional Walsh-coded MCSS system in terms of bandwidth efficiency, PAPR, BER, and antijamming capability. Background. Acute myocardial infarction (AMI), as well as its long-term and short-term complications, is known to present with high morbidity and mortality. Cardiac function deterioration and ventricular remodelling after AMI are known to be correlated to worse long-term outcomes. However, the underlying mechanism remains elusive and there is a shortage of serum prediction markers. This study investigates the relationship between in-hospital Cystatin C (CysC) and cardiac function and subsequent prognosis among AMI patients. Research Design and Methods. We measured admission CysC and cardiac function parameters, including ejection fraction (EF) and pro-BNP value in 5956 patients diagnosed with AMI. Simple and multiregression analyses were performed to investigate the correlation between CysC and cardiac function in AMI patients. Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), cardiovascular, and all-cause mortality were documented, and 351 participants with high cystatin (≥1.09 mg/L) and 714 low cystatin (<1.09 mg/L) were investigated for survival analysis during a 48-month follow-up. Results. 5956 patients with AMI were enrolled in the initial observational analysis, and 1065 patients of the whole cohort were included in the follow-up survival analysis. The admission CysC level was found to be significantly positively correlated to the pro-BNP level (R square = 0.2142 , 95% CI 4758 to 5265, p < 0.0001) and negatively correlated to the EF value (R square = 0.0095 , 95% CI -3.503 to -1.605, p < 0.0001). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed significantly increased MACE incidence (HR = 2.293 , 95% CI 1.400 to 3.755, p < 0.0001), cardiovascular mortality (HR = 3.016 , 95% CI 1.694 to 5.371, p = 0.0002), and all-cause mortality (HR = 3.424 , 95% CI 2.010 to 5.835, p < 0.0001) in high-admission CysC cohort with AMI at the end of 4-year follow-up. Conclusions. Admission CysC is negatively correlated with cardiac function in AMI patients and acts as a novel predictor for MACE incidence in the whole population. Chondropathies are increasing worldwide, but effective treatments are currently lacking. Mesenchymal stromal cell (MSCs) transplantation represents a promising approach to counteract the degenerative and inflammatory environment characterizing those pathologies, such as osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Umbilical cord- (UC-) MSCs gained increasing interest due to their multilineage differentiation potential, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory properties as well as higher proliferation rates, abundant supply along with no risks for the donor compared to adult MSCs. In addition, UC-MSCs are physiologically adapted to survive in an ischemic and nutrient-poor environment as well as to produce an extracellular matrix (ECM) similar to that of the cartilage. All these characteristics make UC-MSCs a pivotal source for a stem cell-based treatment of chondropathies. Sishen Pill (SSP) is a classical prescription of traditional Chinese medicine and often used to treat gastrointestinal diseases, including ulcerative colitis (UC). However, its mechanism is still unclear. We aimed to determine the mechanism of SSP in the treatment of UC by investigating if it maintains the integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier via the Rho A/Rho kinase (ROCK) signaling pathway. Administration of 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) successfully induced chronic UC in rats, while the treatment effect of SSP was evaluated by body weight change, colonic length, colonic weight, colonic weight index, histological injury score, and pathological injury score after colitis rats were treated for 7 days. TNF-α and IL-1β levels were analyzed by ELISA, and the proteins of PI3K/Akt and RhoA/ROCK signaling pathway and junction proteins expression were measured by western blotting assay, and the distribution of Claudin 5 was shown by immunofluorescence. SSP significantly improved the clinical symptoms of colitis in rats and reduced the expression of p-RhoA, ROCK1, PI3K, and Akt in the colon mucosa, while it increased the expression of p-Rac and related proteins (Claudin-5, JAM1, VE-cadherin, and Connexin 43). In addition, SSP increased p-AMPKα and PTEN proteins expression, decreased Notch1 level, and hinted that activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway was inhibited. In conclusion, SSP effectively treated chronic colitis induced by TNBS, which may have been achieved by inhibiting PI3K/Akt signal to suppress activation of the Rho/ROCK signaling pathway to finally maintain the integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier. A 12‐week growth trial was conducted to investigate the impacts of dietary zinc on growth performance, whole‐body composition, haematological parameters, liver aspartate aminotransferase and alanine transaminase activity and tissue trace mineral contents of soft‐shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis). Approximately 4 g of turtles were fed fishmeal‐based diets with 35.43, 46.23, 55.38, 66.74, 75.06 and 85.24 mg Zn/kg. Respiratory burst, red blood cells and intestine somatic index enhanced with escalating dietary Zn concentrations up to 55.38 mg/kg and then kept constant beyond this level. Escalating dietary Zn inclusion up to 66.74 mg/kg improved weight gain, survival rate, feed intake, albumin, haemoglobin, liver aspartate aminotransferase and alanine transaminase activity, carapace ratio and crude protein of turtles, beyond which they decreased. Osmolality, hepatosomatic index and crude lipid of turtles firstly declined with elevating dietary zinc levels from 35.43 to 55.38 mg/kg diet and then increased at a higher zinc level. Liver and muscle Zn concentrations enhanced with escalating dietary zinc inclusion, whereas Cu and Fe concentrations reduced. In summary, the optimal dietary zinc requirements for turtles were 61.27, 60.46 and 60.03 mg/kg diet, based on quadratic regression analysis derived from weight gain, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine transaminase activity, respectively. Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are a heterogeneous population of adult stem cells, which are multipotent and possess the ability to differentiate/transdifferentiate into mesodermal and nonmesodermal cell lineages. MSCs display broad immunomodulatory properties since they are capable of secreting growth factors and chemotactic cytokines. Safety, accessibility, and isolation from patients without ethical concern make MSCs valuable sources for cell therapy approaches in autoimmune, inflammatory, and degenerative diseases. Many studies have been conducted on the application of MSCs as a new therapy, but it seems that a low percentage of them is related to clinical trials, especially completed clinical trials. Considering the importance of clinical trials to develop this type of therapy as a new treatment, the current paper is aimed at describing characteristics of MSCs and reviewing relevant clinical studies registered on the NIH database during 2016-2020 to discuss recent advances on MSC-based therapeutic approaches being used in different diseases. Although liver transplantation is considered to be the best choice for patients with end-stage liver diseases, postoperative immune rejection still cannot be overlooked. Patients with liver transplantation have to take immunosuppressive drugs for a long time or even their entire lives, in which heavy economic burden and side effects caused by the drugs have become the major impediment for liver transplantation. There is a growing body of evidences indicating that mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation, a promising tool in regenerative medicine, can be used as an effective way to induce immune tolerance after liver transplantation based on their huge expansion potential and unique immunomodulatory properties. MSCs have been reported to inhibit innate immunity and adaptive immunity to induce a tolerogenic microenvironment. In in vitro studies, transplanted MSCs show plasticity in immune regulation by altering their viability, migration, differentiation, and secretion in the interactions with the surrounding host microenvironment. In this review, we aim to provide an overview of the current understanding of immunomodulatory properties of MSCs in liver transplantation, to elucidate the potential mechanisms behind MSCs regulating immune response, especially in vivo and the influence of the microenvironment, and ultimately to discuss the feasible strategies to improve the clinical prognosis of liver transplantation. Only after exhaustive understanding of potential mechanisms of the MSC immunomodulation can we improve the safety and effectiveness of MSC treatment and achieve better therapeutic effects. The knowledge of the plants that are used may provide insight on their properties for further exploration. This study aimed to identify and collect data about medicinal plants used in traditional medicine by the population of the provincial region of Taza, Morocco. An ethnobotanical survey was carried out among 200 informants, competent villagers, herbalists, and traditional healers from the provincial region of Taza city through direct interviews using a structured questionnaire. The survey reported 55 plant species belonging to 28 families used in the folk medicine. Informants' results showed that the most frequently used plants were Origanum compactum, Mentha pulegium, Rosmarinus officinalis L., Aloysia citrodora, Calamintha officinalis Moench, and Artemisia herba-alba Asso., with a relative frequency of citation of 76%, 72%, 60%, 42%, 40%, and 30%, respectively. Moreover, in this study, the Lamiaceae family was the most commonly reported plant family, and the leaves were the most frequently used parts of the plants; otherwise, decoction and infusion were the most used modes in the preparation of remedies from medicinal plants in the traditional medicine. The sociodemographic characteristics showed that women use medicinal plants slightly more than men, the illiterate people use the medicinal plant the most, and old people have more information about the medicinal plants than the new generations. The region of Taza of Morocco has an important floristic biodiversity of medicinal plants which are used in traditional medicine practice. This result provides a good database for pharmacological screening in the search for new plants that can contain new bioactive molecules that can be used as a bioactive ingredient of medicament or as a biological alternative in pharmacology. Here, we evaluated the in vivo skin-protective effects of topical applications of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer extract (PG2) and its phenolic acid- (PA-) based components against UVB-induced skin photoaging. PG2 or PA applied to skin of hairless mice after UVB-irradiation alleviated UVB-induced effects observed in untreated skin, such as increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL), increased epidermal thickness, and decreased stratum corneum water content without affecting body weight. Moreover, PG2 and PA treatments countered reduced mRNA-level expression of genes encoding filaggrin (FLG), transglutaminase-1 (TGM1), and hyaluronan synthases (HAS1, HAS2, and HAS3) caused by UVB exposure and reduced UVB-induced collagen fiber degradation by inhibiting the expression of matrix metalloproteinase genes encoding MMP-1, MMP-2, and MMP-9. Meanwhile, topical treatments reduced cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) mRNA-level expression in photodamaged skin, leading to the inhibition of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) mRNA-level expression. The diverse pleiotropic pharmacological effects of curcumin nanoformulations have turned it into an attractive natural compound in different health-related problems. A great body of evidence has shown the impact of curcumin and its nanoformulations on the differentiation of stem cells. The current review highlights cellular and molecular mechanisms connected with the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the scaffolds benefiting from the presence of nanocurcumin pointing toward the role of inhibitory or stimulant signal transduction pathways in detail. Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb., locally famed as Temulawak, has been extensively utilized in Indonesia as medicinal and nutritional plants since immemorial time. The rhizome of this plant is an important ingredient for jamu formulation (Indonesian traditional medicine). C. xanthorrhiza is traditionally used to treat several ailments such as lack of appetite, stomach disorder, liver illness, constipation, bloody diarrhea, dysentery, arthritis, children's fevers, hypotriglyceridaemia, hemorrhoids, vaginal discharge, rheumatism, and skin eruptions. To date, over 40 active compounds, including terpenoids, curcuminoids, and other phenolic compounds, have been isolated and identified from C. xanthorrhiza Roxb. Some pharmacological tests reported that C. xanthorrhiza Roxb. has antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and antitumor, antidiabetic, and skincare and hepatoprotective properties. Efforts for biotechnologically production of C. xanthorrhiza have also been conducted, resulting in some micropropagation protocols of this plant. The current review focuses on the botanical description and distribution, ethnomedicinal uses, production and conservation status, phytochemical properties, and pharmacological activities of C. xanthorrhiza Roxb. to provide accurate and reliable data for future researches and commercialization purposes. Curcumin, as a natural phenolic substance, is extracted from the rhizome of Curcuma longa (turmeric), which is effective in bone healthfulness. Calcitriol is an effective hormone in regulating bone remodeling and mineral homeostasis and immune response. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are found in most dental tissues and resemble bone marrow-derived MSCs. In this work, we investigated the effect of combination and individual treatment of curcumin and calcitriol on early osteogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs). Early osteogenic differentiation was evaluated and confirmed by the gene expression level of ALP and its activity. Curcumin individually and in combination with calcitriol increased ALP activity and osteoblast-specific mRNA expression of ALP when DPSCs were cultured in an osteogenic medium. Calcitriol alone increased the enzyme more than in combination with curcumin. These findings demonstrate that curcumin can induce early osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs like calcitriol as a potent stimulant of osteogenesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Partial kidney ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is the principal cause of acute kidney injury. The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and hypertension also may be influenced by renal IR injury. In two models of partial renal IR with and without ischemia preconditioning (IPC) and using Mas receptor (MasR) blockade, A779 or its vehicle, the renal vascular responses to angiotensin II (Ang II) administration in two-kidney-one-clip (2K1C) hypertensive rats were determined. Methods. Thirty-seven 2K1C male Wistar rats with systolic blood pressure ≥150 mmHg were randomly divided into three groups; sham, IR, and IPC + IR. The animals in the sham group underwent surgical procedures except partial IR. The rats in the IR group underwent 45 min partial kidney ischemia, and the animals in the IPC + IR group underwent two 5 min cycles of partial kidney ischemia followed by 10 min reperfusion and partial kidney ischemia for 45 min. The renal vascular responses to graded Ang II (30, 100, 300, and 1000 ng kg−1.min−1) infusion using A779 or its vehicle were measured at constant renal perfusion pressure. Results. Four weeks after 2K1C implementation, the intravenous infusion of graded Ang II resulted in dose-related increases in mean arterial pressure (MAP) (P dose < 0.0001) that was not different significantly between the groups. No significant differences were detected between the groups in renal blood flow (RBF) or renal vascular resistance (RVR) responses to Ang II infusion when MasR was not blocked. However, by MasR blockade, these responses were increased in IR and IPC + IR groups that were significantly different from the sham group (P < 0.05). For example, infusion of Ang II at dose 1000 ng kg−1.min−1 resulted in decreased RBF percentage change (RBF%) from the baseline to 17.5 ± 1.9%, 39.7 ± 3.8%, and 31.0 ± 3.4% in sham, IR, and IPC + IR, respectively. Purpose: Researches have confirmed that the retinal and choroidal thickness in patients with autoimmune disease-associated uveitis displays significant changes. However, the relationships between rheumatoid factor (RF) and thickness of the retina and choroid in individuals without ocular manifestations remain unclear. The aim of this study is to assess the associations of RF with retinal and choroidal thickness.Methods: The individuals enrolled in the cross-sectional research received full ocular examinations. The participants were classified as the RF (+) group (RF ≥ 15.0 IU/ml) and the RF (-) group (RF < 15.0 IU/ml) according to the serum RF titers. The thickness of the retina and choroid was measured by swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT).Results: The study covered 65 right eyes of 65 individuals that are RF-positive and 130 right eyes of 130 age- and sex-matched individuals that are RF-negative. The RF (+) group showed decreased choroidal thickness that achieved statistical significance only in the outer inferior and outer temporal sectors, as compared to the RF (-) group. There was no statistically significant difference regarding the retinal thickness between the two groups. Pearson's correlation analysis revealed that the RF was significantly negatively related to the choroidal thickness in all areas. However, there was no significant correlation between the RF and the retinal thickness.Conclusions: Serum RF titers are closely linked with choroidal thickness before the emergence of ocular symptoms. This study investigated kimchi‐induced apoptosis in HT‐29 human colon carcinoma cells. Three types of kimchi samples were prepared: standardized kimchi brined with general commercial Baechu cabbage by a standardized recipe (SK), Amtak Baechu kimchi brined with Amtak Baechu cabbage by a standardized recipe (AmK), and anticancer kimchi brined with organically cultivated Baechu cabbage by a functional recipe (AK). MTT assay, qRT‐PCR, and Western blotting analysis were performed. The results indicate that AmK and AK, especially AK significantly upregulated mRNA expression of apoptosis‐related genes Bim, Bax, Bak, caspase‐8, ‐9, ‐3, and p53 but suppressed Bcl‐xL and Bcl‐2 expression. In addition, AK treatment significantly upregulated protein expression levels of caspase‐3 but strikingly reduced the protein expression level of Bcl‐2 (p <.05), followed by AmK treatment. Our data suggest that AK and AmK can markedly suppress the proliferation of HT‐29 cells via activation of apoptosis. Practical applications: Colon cancer is the fourth cancer with the highest incidence in the world. Cell apoptosis is a type of programmed cell death and plays an important role in the cancer cells study. Kimchi is a traditional fermented food in Korea, with a relatively high daily consumption. Our present study used three kinds of kimchi which prepared with different main ingredients and recipes. The results suggest that organically cultivated Baechu cabbage and functional recipe in kimchi preparation play an important role in the anticancer efficacy of kimchi, which has been shown to promote induction of apoptosis in HT‐29 cells. LMX1A, encoding the LIM homeobox transcription factor, is essential for inner ear development. Despite previous reports of three human LMX1A variants with nonsyndromic hearing loss (NSHL) in the literature, functional characterization of these variants has never been performed. Encouraged by identification of a de novo, heterozygous, missense variant (c.595A > G; p.Arg199Gly) located in the homeodomain of LMX1A in a subject with congenital severe‐to‐profound deafness through Exome sequencing, we performed luciferase assay to evaluate transcriptional activity of all LMX1A variants reported in the literature including p.Arg199Gly. Resultantly, p.Arg199Gly manifesting the most severe NSHL showed the biggest reduction of transcriptional activity in contrast with moderately reduced activity of p.Cys97Ser and p.Val241Leu associated with less severe progressive NSHL, proposing a genotype–phenotype correlation. Further, our dominant LMX1A variant exerted pathogenic effects via haploinsufficiency rather than dominant‐negative effect. The present study examined whether crosstalk between cannabinoid (CB) and transient potential receptor vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1) could contribute to the survival of nigrostriatal dopamine neurons in the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) mouse model of Parkinson's disease (PD). MPTP induced a significant loss of nigrostriatal dopamine neurons and glial activation in the substantia nigra (SN) and striatum (STR) as visualized by tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) or macrophage antigen complex-1 (MAC-1) or glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) immunocytochemistry, respectively. RT-PCR analysis shows the upregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase, interleukin-1β, and tumor necrosis factor-α in microglia in the SN in vivo, indicating the activation of the inflammatory system. By contrast, treatment with capsaicin (a specific TRPV1 agonist) increased the survival of dopamine neurons in the SN and their fibers and dopamine levels in the STR in MPTP mice. Capsaicin neuroprotection is accompanied by inhibiting MPTP-induced glial activation and production of inflammatory cytokines. Treatment with AM251 and AM630 (CB1/2 antagonists) abolished capsaicin-induced beneficial effects, indicating the existence of a functional crosstalk between CB and TRPV1. Moreover, treatment with anandamide (an endogenous agonist for both CB and TRVP1) rescued nigrostriatal dopamine neurons and reduced gliosis-derived neuroinflammatory responses in MPTP mice. These results suggest that the cannabinoid and vanilloid system may be beneficial for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as PD, that are associated with neuroinflammation. Photovoltaics has become a significant branch of next-generation sustainable energy production. Kesterite Cu2ZnSn(S, Se)4 (copper-zinc-tin-(sulfur, selenium) or CZTS(Se)) is considered one of the most promising, earth-abundant, and nontoxic candidates for solar energy generation over the last decade. However, shallow phase stability of the quaternary phase and the presence of various secondary phases and defects are the main hindrances in achieving the target device performance. This paper summarizes various approaches to synthesize the CZTS absorber layer and the CdS n -type material layer. Besides, different CZTS solar cell device structures, as well as a comprehensive review of secondary phases and defects, have been illustrated and discussed. Dyslipidemia is associated with increased arterial stiffness (AS) which may lead to hypertension. Among the methods to assess AS are carotid-femoral and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity. Dyslipidemia is also known to trigger inflammation. C-reactive protein (CRP) is one of the commonest inflammatory markers measured in the clinical setting. However, the association between inflammation and pulse wave velocity (PWV) in people with dyslipidemia is less studied. Therefore, this review investigated the association between inflammation (as measured by CRP) and PWV in dyslipidemia patients. The search of the literature was conducted via PubMed and Scopus database. The keywords used were "aortic stiffness" OR "arterial stiffness" OR "pulse wave velocity" OR "vascular stiffness" OR "carotid femoral pulse wave velocity" OR "pulse wave analysis" AND "inflammation" OR "c reactive protein" OR "c-reactive protein" OR "high sensitivity c reactive protein" AND "dyslipidemia" OR "hyperlipidemia" OR "hypercholesterolemia" OR "hyperlipoproteinemia" OR "hypertriglyceridemia". The following criteria were used: (1) only full-length original articles published in English language, (2) articles that reported the association between arterial stiffness measured as carotid-femoral PWV (cfPWV) or brachial-ankle PWV (baPWV) and CRP or high-sensitivity CRP, and (3) study involving human subjects. The search identified 957 articles published between 1980 and February 2020. Only eight articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were used for data extraction. Five of the studies were cross-sectional studies while another three studies were interventional studies. Seven out of eight papers found a significant positive association between AS and CRP, and the correlation ranged from mild to moderate association (Pearson r = 0.33 to r = 0.624). In conclusion, inflammation is associated with increased PWV in patients with dyslipidemia. This supports the involvement of inflammation in the development of AS in dyslipidemia. Objective. A multicenter study to evaluate risk factors for the development of moderate or severe posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) and to find potential preventions. Methods. We conducted a retrospective multicenter study including the terrible triad injury (TTI) patients with surgical treatment from January 2007 to November 2014. Demographics, injury information, and treatment history were obtained retrospectively. According to the Broberg and Morrey criterion, 198 included patients were sorted into two groups: the mild or no PTOA and moderate or severe PTOA. Uni- and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify risk factors for moderate or severe PTOA. Results. Moderate or severe PTOA was present in 64 patients (32.3%). Significant risk factors were Mason III radial head fracture (OR 4.049, 95% CI 1.877-8.736, p < 0.001), medial collateral ligament injury (OR 5.120, 95% CI 1.261-20.790, p = 0.022), and heavy use of elbow (OR 2.333, 95% CI 1.060-5.136, p = 0.035). Besides, patients suffered subluxation (p = 0.007) and those with more risk factors had a higher risk to develop moderate or severe PTOA. Conclusions. Moderate or severe PTOA was common after the TTI. Patients need to be counseled about avoiding heavy use of the elbow, especially for those with Mason III radial head fractures. Background. Central arterial stiffness is a surrogate of cardiovascular risk and predicts cardiovascular mortality. Apolipoprotein B lipoproteins are also established cardiovascular risk factors. It is not known whether specific lipoprotein subclasses measured in the Malmö Diet and Cancer Study and previously shown to be associated with coronary heart disease also predict arterial stiffening after a mean period of 17 years. Methods. Lipoprotein particle analysis was performed on 2,505 men and women from Malmö, Sweden, from 1991 to 1994, and arterial stiffness was assessed by carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (c-fPWV) on this same cohort from 2007 to 2012. Associations between c-fPWV and lipoprotein particles were determined with multiple linear regression, controlling for sex, presence of diabetes, waist-to-hip circumference, and smoking status at baseline, as well as heart rate (measured at the carotid artery), mean arterial pressure, antihypertensive and lipid-lowering medications, C-reactive protein (CRP), and age at the time of c-fPWV measurement. Results. The results confirm that triglycerides (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) but not low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) predict c-fPWV. We identify a positive predictive association for very small, small, and medium (high risk), but not large LDL particles. There was a negative association for large HDL particles. The relationships between c-fPWV and high-risk LDL particles were unaffected by adjusting for LDL-c or CRP and were only mildly attenuated by adjusting for the homeostatic model for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Due to the collinearity of very small, small, and medium LDL particles and dyslipidemia (elevated TG and decreased HDL-c), the observed relationship between c-fPWV and high-risk LDL particles became insignificant after controlling for the concentration of HDL-c, large cholesterol-rich HDL particles, and TG. Conclusions. The development of central arterial stiffness previously associated with combined dyslipidemia may be mediated in part by LDL particles, particularly the very small-, small-, and medium-sized LDL particles. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder related to nigrostriatal dopaminergic neuron degeneration and iron accumulation. As a cellular oxygen sensor, prolyl hydroxylase domain containing protein 2 (PHD2, encoded by egl-9 family hypoxia inducible factor 1, EGLN1) modifies hypoxia-inducible factor alpha (HIF-α) protein for proteasomal destruction under normoxic condition. In addition, 2-oxoglutarate- (OG-) dependent dioxygenase activity of PHD2 is involved in the oxygen and iron regulation of iron-responsive element binding protein 2 (IRP2) stability. Previously increased expression of EGLN1 was found in the substantia nigra of the parkinsonian brain. We investigated the possible role of c.380 G > C (p.C127S) of EGLN1 gene in Taiwanese patients with PD. 479 patients and 435 healthy controls were recruited. This paper introduces an image interpolation method that provides performance superior to that of the state-of-the-art algorithms. The simple linear method, if used for interpolation, provides interpolation at the cost of blurring, jagging, and other artifacts; however, applying complex methods provides better interpolation results, but sometimes they fail to preserve some specific edge patterns or results in oversmoothing of the edges due to postprocessing of the initial interpolation process. The proposed method uses a new gradient-based approach that makes an intelligent decision based on the edge direction using the edge map and gradient map of an image and interpolates unknown pixels in the predicted direction using known intensity pixels. The input image is subjected to the efficient hysteresis thresholding-based edge map calculation, followed by interpolation of low-resolution edge map to obtain a high-resolution edge map. Edge map interpolation is followed by classification of unknown pixels into obvious edges, uniform regions, and transitional edges using the decision support system. Coefficient-based interpolation that involves gradient coefficient and distance coefficient is applied to obvious edge pixels in the high-resolution image, whereas transitional edges in the neighborhood of an obvious edge are interpolated in the same direction to provide uniform interpolation. Simple line averaging is applied to pixels that are not detected as an edge to decrease the complexity of the proposed method. Applying line averaging to smooth pixels helps to control the complexity of the algorithm, whereas applying gradient-based interpolation preserves edges and hence results in better performance at reasonable complexity. Dental caries is the most common oral disease. The bacteriological aetiology of dental caries promotes the use of antibiotics or antimicrobial agents to prevent this type of oral infectious disease. Antibiotics have been developed for more than 80 years since Fleming discovered penicillin in 1928, and systemic antibiotics have been used to treat dental caries for a long time. However, new types of antimicrobial agents have been developed to fight against dental caries. The purpose of this review is to focus on the application of systemic antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents with respect to their clinical use to date, including the history of their development, and their side effects, uses, structure types, and molecular mechanisms to promote a better understanding of the importance of microbial interactions in dental plaque and combinational treatments.
